Fullmetal Alchemist - Live Action Movie
I haven't seen a thread about this so let me do the honors. I just came across this little trailer/teaser.
English Sub Trailer Here There's an official website too. It's all Japanese so I can't read shit about it, but I'm really excited about the prospect of it. I absolutely love the FMA and FMA:B anime, and now there's going to be a Live Action Movie of it too. Though obviously, the chance of a major disappointment is there too given the Avatar and Dragon Ball movies that preceded this one. Any of you getting excited by this? And do you think a FMA movie will work in this style, or do you think it will go the way of the Avatar movie?

It's a Japanese film with Japanese actors, so aside from the typical "it's weird as fudge to see Asians in a non-Asian historical setting" the production is likely going to be divorced from the need to dumb things down for American audiences.
Which was the problem with Avatar/DBE. Americans like predictable formulas and tend to not support things that are too divergent from that. See: the emphasis on franchises, well-treaded established genres like the superhero, zombie, disaster film, and on predictable plot developments/eye-candy emphasis. This film is almost guaranteed to be superior to the American spin-offs. Now, the question is: would it have been superior to a German adaption of the same material?
