It was certainly a very tempting offering. Compared to staying in this depressing city, the beauty of the sea was tempting. Not only that, but the high mountain peaks... the lush forests and vast plains. Nature was always beautiful, and could be expressed by any artist. Besides, despite the Smeargle's monochromatic painting-style, you had to give it credit for looking good. Was that from the Smeargle's dreams, or previous experience? Whatever it was, you could see determination creeping up through the Smeargle.

After a while, the Pokemon looked at you, giving you a look that you hadn't seen before. A look of hope. Shaking its head, it was willing to leave everything behind. The question was, how. It would be easy enough to just capture the Smeargle. Besides, Pena would be happy that his new friend would be coming back home with you. Though, you felt that might not be the best option. After all, the Smeargle could end up feeling trapped again. It wanted to leave, though, so it was an option.

Regardless of your choice, the Smeargle still stared at you, it's resolve not changing. It wanted to leave, it made up its mind. And, after all, since you were the one who offered it you should be the one to help it out. That was only natural. Pena would certainly be happy to help out as well.

What do you do?

"So... how are we doing this?" Tate mused, looking between the Smeargle and Pena. There were logistics to this that needed to be arranged and they didn't have the interspecific communication skills to hash them out efficiently. "Do you want us to just take you out to the countryside? We could walk you there, it's only a couple of hours before you're free of the city."

Pena looked up at his trainer, and then at the Smeargle, and sighed. This had been fun. Pena didn't make friends easily, but he liked the Smeargle and the Smeargle seemed to like him. He didn't really want to say goodbye. Tugging at Tate's pants leg, he pointed up at the trainer's belt, where six Luxury Balls glittered.

"Oh-" Tate murmured. "I don't know, baby-... we can ask."

Looking back at the Smeargle, Tate also sighed. Slipping a backpack strap off one shoulder, the Johtonian crouched and dropped the over-sized bag on the floor in the space between them. "Okay, so... you don't don't have to," Tate qualified, quickly. Unzipping the pocket where the Poke Balls were kept, Tate fished around inside, eventually producing a shiny black-and-gold orb. "But if you want, you can just... come with us. We live in a tree house with a bunch of other Pokemon. I think it's pretty cool-..."

Tate shrugged, and glanced at Pena, who looked to the Smeargle and nodded, a little hopefully. He clearly wanted the Smeargle to come with them, and Tate hoped he was capable of dealing with the disappointment if the Smeargle said no.

: Taking into account the information on hand, and with a lack of counteractions from the Weezing, Ariana stomps forth ready to support the fight in her best interests. As the Garbodor thunders towards the glowing Claydol, Donovan gives his own commands to Hawkeye. "Take note of its weak spots with foresight then strike with leaf blade and cleave those stones."

With the charging Z-move, Ariana drives her trash fist into the chest of the giant with a drain punch that does little to wound the pokemon, but is enough to interrupt the incoming Breakneck Blitz, as the gathered Z-energy once more mostly dissipates...before coalescing into its two arms as it shoves the Garbodor back, just as you take note of your dex to discover what move Claydol is most known for: Hyper Beam.

Without pause, twin rays of devastating energy blast out from the pods on both sides, point blank, into the poison type who is completely helpless as she is engulfed in a white-out situation, her silhouette barely visible in the wave, and you can only cry out for your pokemon. The distraction is enough for the Decidueye to spot flaws and vulnerabilities in the body of his foe, and the owl deftly swoops in as the air fills with dust and debris from the burst of the hyper beam, vanishing into the cloud. The sound of clashing and crunching emanates from the cloud and as you and your team watch the dust settle...

The claydol floats there in evident pain, numerous cracks across the lower half of its body as Hawkeye sheathes a green glow from his wing, while a crater lies before you, and in the middle of it, to your astonishment, stands Ariana, her trash bag cape disintegrated, metal piping glowing hot, the stench of burnt garbage filling the air, yet her body still moves, the great bond you and her share granting her the strength to endure what would have been a decisive, if not lethal, blow. Stunned at the pile of rubbish still standing, the Claydol is left unable to move, allowing the poison type to raise her pipe arm and to open fire with a bullet storm of seeds that pelt the larger opponent, causing it to wave its arms around irritated, before eyes settle upon you once again, and dread fills you.

At this, its remaining gems glow a haunting violet, and before anyone can act it thrusts Z-energy out not at Ariana, but towards you and Meowth. Amanda cries out to you and Meowth, but you hear nothing as the two of you are engulfed in darkness as shadowy arms rise from around you like something out of a horror movie and trap you both within a dome of ghostly energy. While you don't see, Ariana lets loose another barrage of seeds to try and stop the Ghost type Z-move, but her efforts are ultimately in vain.

Within the dome, you and Meowth are subject to scenes out of a nightmare that seem to never end. The ruined city, but as it was hundreds, if not thousands of years ago. People and pokemon working and living in peace, with focus on a Baltoy as it twirled around a child in play. The skies clouding over, as they begin to quiver, people directing others to shelter. A deep chill goes down you and Meowth's spines as holes open in the sky and what appear to be meteorites of some sort rain down upon the city, crushing buildings and extinguishing lives. The Baltoy trying to stop the rain as a deep and callous laugh unlike anything you've ever heard echoes. The city before you lies in ruins, before a great shift in the land sinks it beneath ground level.

The Baltoy and other pokemon survivors over a great deal of time working in vain to retrieve the fallen and rebuild, the grim realisation of what transpired. The Baltoy engulfed in light from pushing itself, evolving into the titan you now face. A sudden passage of time, and other humans of some sort, and then a red haze, until light pours into the dome as it dissipates.

"Keith! Meowth!"

A female voice calls out in distress as you and Meowth take inventory as such and turn to face Amanda, who shows relief that the pair of you are unharmed. Indeed, despite the fact said Z-move should have hurt you physically you feel fine, if a little chilly, but these concerns are pushed to the side as Ariana slowly plods to your side, before collapsing from her injuries, exhausted and unable to battle. The Claydol stares at you once more, eyes still full of hatred, yet at the same time you feel as though you can detect the slightest hint of rational thought within, and the message it seems to convey is a little clearer after what you've seen: end my suffering.

"Keith, Hawkeye's done some damage to it, but looking at things we'll have to hit it with what we have," Donovan gasps, his wound still bothering him, yet in his hand is a slight gleam of something. "We have something that should put it down for good...but I lack a Z-ring...could you lend me yours for just a moment and pin that Claydol down?"

With a request made, time is of the essence as the gems on the Claydol begin to glow an earthy brown, and with Ariana down for the count and Gemini and Mustard showing fatigue, especially in the icy department as the pair fail to produce any cold energy having burned their supplies, how will you deal with the scenario before you?

Meetan:

While the Sword of Damocles dangles precariously over their heads, the men look at the keycard for a couple of seconds, before a smile comes to their faces.

“Remember when we were grunts? We didn’t even get our names on these cards…”

“Keep hard at work and you’ll eventually get a card with your pretty face on it, just like this one,” says one of them as he shows off his own ID, a Lv 2 Keycard with proper identification, unlike the blank one you just showed. “Go on in, that haul looks heavy this time around.”

“Quartermaster’s getting even lazier lately, sending grunts like her to carry his stuff…”

They unlock the door and step aside. And just like that, you have unrestricted access to Marquis Rigel von Argentus’s private quarters… as long as you don’t take too long inside.

Hermes easily phases through the wall and joins you inside, clearly disappointed he couldn’t feast on human souls just yet. Looking around, you realize combing through the room shouldn’t take too long, because these really are some crappy accommodations for the grand Leader of the Shells…

The room is just as small as the quartermaster’s shop. There is a bed next to the right wall, a probably-locked iron chest at the bed’s feet, a wooden desk with three drawers underneath, and a small bookcase with three shelves on the wall to your left; books on finance and administration on the top one, Goldenridge history books on the middle, and architecture books on the bottom shelf. And that’s it – not a trace of decorations, pictures or anything else to distinguish this room from that of a regular grunt’s.

If you take too long to search for that mysterious code the quartermaster mentioned, the guards outside might get suspicious. Any plans to get this done as quickly as possible?

TheKnightsFury:

Determined not to be stopped by whatever is threatening you in the darkness, you decide there is little room for negotiation. Stepping forward in the darkness, you hope for the creature’s sake that it steps aside…

… but it doesn’t.

You feel a sharp pain on your left arm, followed by a strange wet warmth running down towards your hand. You’re bleeding!

Acting swiftly in retaliation, Blinky unleashes a golden wave of light forward. In doing so, yes, it strikes the target… but even more importantly, if only briefly, it shows you who – or what – you’re dealing with.

He stands up like a man, although slightly hunched over and with barely any muscle mass left; his skin is dry and shriveled, with a sickly gray hue. Completely bald, with eyes almost entirely white, he is a nauseating vision. In his hand is a bloodied knife, and despite his deplorable condition and the electricity running though his body, he remains adamantly blocking your path as he moans in pain…

Up next is Sigurd, directing his Will-o-Wisps to illuminate the cave-dweller; able to aim his attack, the Gallade unleashes an iridescent beam that washes over him… and the man’s mind collapses entirely.

“YOU CAN’T I WON’T LET YOU! I’LL KILL YOU BEFORE I LET YOU PASS! GO AWAY GO AWAY GO AWAY GO AWAY GO AWAY!!”

Alternating between swinging his knife blindly and failing to do so as his muscles cramp up from paralysis, the man’s sanity is gone. But even in this sorry state, he still blocks your path… What will you do?

Keith grinned, for it seemed that his instincts were right on the money- Drain Punch did indeed stop the Normal-type Z-Move from being unleashed. However, the energy lingered in its disembodied arms. Keith had an ominous feeling about this, and hastened to consult his Pokédex.

"Claydol's special attack- Hyper Beam," droned the device, confirming Keith's fears. "An extreme blast of energy that causes major damage, but forces the user to rest immediately following usage."

Keith's mouth fell open in horror just as the Claydol unleashed Hyper Beam. Not a Z-Move, but powerful in its own right. "Ariana! No!!" Keith exclaimed, as his Garbodor was engulfed in the potent blast of energy. Rare was the occasion when a person expresses real and sincere concern over the well-being of a pile of garbage, but this was one of those occasions here and now. The few seconds of Hyper Beam's duration were the longest hours of Keith's life, as he could do nothing but stand in place and fear for his Garbodor's life. Images flashed before his eyes- hugging a small, shy Trubbish for the first time; aforementioned Trubbish picking a flower and offering it to Keith, only to see that it had withered in her garbagey grip; Ariana evolving into Garbodor to defend Keith against Rocket Executive Jet; Ariana emerging from her ball just back there against the Black Scarab to defend her Trainer once more; and many other moments such as this. And finally, the attack ended... the dust settled...

...and there stood Ariana- unsteady, weakened, but unmistakably alive and conscious! Keith gave a sound that seemed somewhere between a relieved sob and a relieved laugh. "Ahaha! Ariana! Yes!!" he cheered. "You're OK!"

Arina looked back at Keith and grinned. "Gar," she responded, weakly but happily. Yeah, she was OK. By all rights, that Hyper Beam should have ended her. But as Ariana heard her Trainer call out to her, fearful for her life, it was a striking reminder of just how closely the two were bonded. A reminder of all the Garbodor had to live for. A reminder that while she didn't know when her time would be, it sure as shit wasn't now! Naught but pure stubbornness, stubbornness and love, was keeping Ariana conscious at this point, and she would continue to fight on, even if she only had one move left in her for this fight.

Keith grinned back. "You got this, Ariana," he stated. "Now use Bullet Seed!"

"Gaaaar... bodor bodor bodor bodor bodor!" Ariana exclaimed, firing off seeds from her pipelike arm, as though from a machine gun. However, although the move greatly irritated Claydol, it didn't stop it from making another move. This time, it was aiming right at Keith and Meowth, and its Z-Crystals were glowing a ghostly purple. Ariana hastily fired off another Bullet Seed, but failed to make Claydol flinch.

Keith had expected unendurable pain. Perhaps even the sweet release of death before he had time to even feel pain. But he wasn't sure this was either of those. Instead, he was seeing things, him and Meowth both. Scenes from the distant past. The city as it once was. A Baltoy twirling around a playing child. Clouds forming in the sky. People running for shelter. Meteorites raining down on the city. Baltoy trying to stop the meteors. A deep, harsh laugh, its source unknown. The city sinking below the ground. The ongoing efforts to rebuild the city, retrieve the fallen. Baltoy pushing itself, eventually evolving...

...into this very Claydol, Keith realized suddenly. And just then, he heard a female voice calling out in distress as the Z-Move faded away. Keith blinked- it was Amanda. Relieved that Keith and Meowth were unharmed. And indeed, they were! Keith and Meowth exchanged looks, both of surprise that they were completely unharmed (less so on Meowth's part, as he would've been immune to the Ghost-type damage anyway), and of understanding, of the significance of what Claydol had shown them.

At this moment, Ariana arrived at Keith's side, collapsing from exhaustion at last. Keith took out the Cherish Ball and held it out. "Come back now, Ariana," he said, withdrawing the Poison-type. Once the scarlet sphere was occupied once more, Keith smiled at it. "I'm proud of you," he murmured. "You rest now- we got it from here."

And then Keith looked at Claydol. The eyes still burned with hatred, but Keith realized- now there was something more in there. Rational thought, perhaps, if only the tiniest trace? Keith understood what the Claydol was trying to convey- a plea. A plea to end its suffering. He met the gaze unflinchingly, giving a single nod to show he understood. I'm sorry, Claydol, Keith thought, unsure as to whether Claydol would be able to telepathically pick up on his thoughts, but willing to give it a shot regardless. Sorry for what's been done to you, for all that you went through, for what you've become... I wish I could help in some other way, a way that would let you live a happier life... but if it is what must be done, then I will end your suffering.

Donovan, between gasps from the pain of his wound, made a request of Keith. He was sure he had what it took to end Claydol once and for all, but he needed a Z-Ring, and of course he didn't have one of his own. He needed to borrow Keith's Z-Ring. That gleam in his hand- Keith suddenly realized, it must be a Z-Crystal of some sort. Something that could take down this thing once and for all. Something Hawkeye could use, most likely. Both of his types were super effective against a Claydol- were they about to go for Bloom Doom, or perhaps Never-Ending Nightmare? Or something else altogether? In any case, Keith saw this as the best option. He removed the Z-Ring from his wrist, pocketing his Icium Z in the process, and handed it over to Donovan.

"Ya sure about dat?" Meowth asked Keith.

"Yeah, look at Gemini," Keith responded, gesturing to his Weezing. "They don't got another Blizzard in them anymore, much less the makings of another Subzero Slammer. Besides, we gotta stop it from- from doing exactly that," he sighed, seeing that the crystals were glowing once more. "OK, brown, brown... gotta be a Ground move," he stated. Of course it'd be a Ground-type Z-Move, he complained internally, considering Blizzard was his Weezing's only super effective option there. But then, Keith reminded himself, his Weezing wasn't his only option. Keith's head turned sharply towards the Meowth on his shoulder. "You're up, Meowth," Keith grinned, confidence renewed. "Give it a Water Pulse and make it a good one!"

Meowth grinned back. "When is dey anyting less den good?" he responded, before springing off of Keith's shoulder, ready to launch the Water move and disrupt Claydol's latest attack. And if he could land on his Weezing teammate, all the better- Gemini's Levitate could then protect them both from whatever Claydol's Z-Move would fizzle out into.

"Motherfucker!" Jayson shouted as the wraith of a man stabs him in the shoulder. Recoiling, Jayson makes way for Blinky and Sigurd to launch their attacks. They are somewhat effective, stunning the man enough
that his attacks are slow and lack direction. Now wary of his opponents intention, Jayson wasn't all too concerned about the man landing another blow. Jayson released his Honedge from its Pokeball, he'd try to learn what he could from the sickly man before putting him to rest.

"Sigurd you need to use your Psychic powers to try and read his mind, he might know something of importance to us. The Gallade nodded, he was obviously concerned about Jayson's arm but knew that his trainer had taken worse blows before. "Honedge, whether Sigurd is successful or not, you need to put this man down. Make it swift with an Aerial Ace through the heart." With his plan for the man sorted, Jayson now had to sort out his arm. "Blinky, Iron Maiden, keep well away from the man, the last thing we need is for him to get you as well." Ripping a strip from his shirt, Jayson tied a knot above the wound, hoping to slow the flow of blood. He'd need to patch up the wound as soon as possible, he wasn't sure whether having an open wound would make him more vulnerable to the radiation or not. With the state the 'man' was in, Jayson was indeed starting to get concerned. The last thing he wanted was to end up like him, sickly and crazed, trapped alone in the tunnels......

For all you knew they had picked this place for the precise reason that no one would suspect it to be their base.

As soon as you get inside however, its clear that you aren’t in the right place. There was no sign that the Marshals had been here, for a matter of fact, it was clear that no one had been here in quite some time. The lobby was in complete tatters. Paint was peeling off the walls and there was a musky, mouldy smell in the air. Almost all the furniture was torn or broken, and paper littered the floor. You make a quick sweep of the adjacent rooms, only to find them all as deserted as the main lobby. You come to the final room on the first floor. Its only a small room, likely someone’s old office. The only interesting feature of the room is a large painting in an ornate wooden frame. A gold plaque on the bottom of the frame reads “Celebi’s Gift”. The painting itself seems to have been slashed from the top right corner to the bottom left. From what you can see the painting is quite beautiful or at least it used to be. As you draw closer, you notice the cut edges begin to glow faintly, as if they wish to be reunited. You feel a compelling force to put the painting back together, but was it wise to meddle with something so strange?
“Well, here’s the thing,” said Hanson in his booming voice as the team progressed into the Bastion. “Number one, this place is boring as hell. Number two, this place isn’t where we want to be at all… is it?”

Bomber was forced to agree with both of the very-obvious assessments. They had been looking for the Marshals’ HQ, but this just looks like an abandoned, thoroughly-plundered tower. There’s nobody inside – certainly not the Marshals they wanted – but, more importantly, there was nothing else either, be it in the spacious main hall or the smaller rooms nearby. Which made him wonder why Hanson didn’t just turn around and leave – he was never a patient man…

Blizzer, meanwhile, was busy not tripping on his own half-frozen snot. In fact, that was practically the only thing he ever did. Hanson thought that was a pretty sad existence, but the Cubchoo seemed relatively fine with his situation, much to the man’s confusion. Hanson could not fathom an existence based entirely around snot.

Every room a further disappointment, it took the team a full sweep of the ground floor before something interesting came into view. The very last room, an old office of some sort, gifted Hanson with a beautiful sight.

“Woah… Guys, come on out, you gotta see this!”

Bomber thought Hanson’s elation might be exaggerated – it was just a torn painting, after all – but the Gentle Giant was genuine like that. Bored out of his mind, even this kind of thing was enough to spark the man’s child-like interest; that was one of the reasons the Geodude liked his human companion so much.

In consecutive flashes of light, Hanson’s remaining team materialized in the office: Breaker, Buster and Basher joined Bomber and Blizzer, but none of them seemed half as excited about the painting as Hanson himself.

“Wish I could paint like this… maybe I wouldn’t have ended up in Demolitions,” mused the army man as he examined the painting up close, Celebi’s Gift. “What kind of vandal thought it’d be funny to cut it in half?!”

It was then that he noticed the torn edges of the painting begin to glow, much to his fascination.

“Holy crap! The light effects on the painting are amazing, it’s like it’s actually glowing!” A punch to the arm by Bomber later, and Hanson finally realizes what’s really going on. “Oh. Oooh wait, it’s actual light. This is odd.”

His curiosity peaked, and with complete disregard for any possible dangers of doing so, Hanson grabbed each sliced half of the painting and instinctively tried to being the glowing edges together. After all, it really felt like they wanted to be together. Was that weird?...

Unwavering, you are determined to keep moving. Moreover, the cut in your arm only serves to incense you towards trampling over the crazed man to get to where you want to be.

The man’s fate has been sealed in your mind, and it materializes in the shape of your Honedge. But before you strike him down, you decide to at least make him useful in death – Sigurd steps forward and mentally probes the man, relaying anything he finds to you via your psychic link. The problem is, his already weakened mind has been jumbled by the previous Confuse Ray, and all you get are disjointed bits and pieces, meaningless images except for one that flashes repeatedly in between all the noise...

Spoiler: show

It seems to be a die of some sort, but made of red stone. Every time the image appears, a new number is up front, but sometimes, the twenty-sided stone is spinning erratically rather than showing any number at all, further confirming the man's crippling confusion. And then, everything turns to black.

Looking ahead, you realize Honedge has made his move, piercing the man’s heart with a single, violent stab. Broken physically and mentally, it might have been in the man’s best interest to put him out of his misery. At the very least, the shouting and moaning have ceased.

The living sword removes itself from the deformed human’s torso, and the lifeless husk falls forward at your feet, dressed in rags and rusty knife still in hand. The nausea gets worse, and you can’t tell whether it’s due to the radiation, the arm wound or the fact that you just killed another human being.

Now what?...

Maskerade- Intrigued by the torn painting, you call on the rest of your team to have a look. None of them seem really impressed, why would a ruined painting be of interest to them? Partypoopers aside, you figure that you might as well put the painting back together, at least then they might appreciate its beauty. Grabbing the two torn pieces of canvas, you pull them back towards one another, the glow along the edges intensifies as they get closer. As the two edges meet, you hear the dim ring of bells and a bright flash that quickly envelops the whole room.

Everything starts to spin and warp, you can feel your stomach making its way up into your throat. Your Pokemon cling onto your legs for stability, thankfully they seemed to be experiencing the same phenomenon as you. Eventually the light fades and your surroundings start to steady. The room looked familiar, but it was different than before. The painting still rested on the wall in front of you, however it was now in one piece and there was no sign it had ever been torn. The room was now immaculate, like it had been freshly cleaned. A computer sat on a nearby desk, a tower of documents sat beside it. Orange light filtered in through the window as the sun began to set over the horizon. Your Pokemon are quite confused, none of them are sure what is going on. While you try and work out what happened, you're interrupted as the door flings open behind you.

"Who are you and what are you and these Pokemon doing in my wife's office?!" The man stood at roughly 6 foot, dressed in suit and tie he looked like a proper businessman. His glasses sat sturdy on his face, his brown hair was cut short and clean. You hear a buzzing noise, the source of which becomes obvious as an Elekid steps out from behind him, windmilling its arms as it begins to charge electricity. The Electric type seemed more aggravated than its trainer, but if you weren't quick to reply the man certainly wouldn't stop the Elekid from attacking.

All they managed to get out of the husk of a man was a strange image of a 20 sided dice. Jayson had no idea what it meant, the only thing he knew about those type of die is that they were often used for games, however he was sure how that connected to their current situation. Honedge had thankfully put the man to rest swiftly, Jayson felt no guilt, what he did was in the man's best interests. There was no way he could be healed and even if there was he was so mentally destroyed that he would never be the same. He just had to hope the man was alone down here, more crazy mutants was the last thing he needed, especially now he was wounded. He was feeling more nauseous, so much so that he began to feel a bit unsteady on his feet. Sigurd thankfully catches him before he hits the floor, Blinky and Iron Maiden look at him with concern.

"It's alright guys, I promise I won't turn into something like him", Jayson gestured towards the dead man. "Sigurd you need to use a Will-O-Wisp to cauterise my wound, we need to push on. Continue to light the way for us, we need to find out what is actually going on down here. Sure, the best thing for him to do at this point was probably teleport to the nearest hospital, but for some reason he was determined to get answers. Sure, it could have been the radiation effecting his brain, but what were the chances of that?

: Trust was an easy thing to hold onto, and easier to break, yet with the situation growing grim you nod to Donovan as you remove and hand him your Z-ring, the man's gaze meeting yours with a firm nod. "Th-thanks. I'll need a minute to get enough strength to do this... Hawkeye, be ready."

After recalling Ariana, the Garbodor is thankful for what she's done and faced with the impending Z-move, you turn to an unexpected counter: Meowth. The feline hops off your shoulder, tapping into his technical expertise as he generates an orb of water between his paws and lobs it through the air towards the Claydol. You understood what was required, what peace the pokemon wished for, and as the pulsating orb splashes over the head of the Claydol, the Z-move is successfully interrupted, averting any ground move coming your way.

Until the debris surrounding the Claydol rise into the air with ancient power flowing through them. What was an expected Tectonic Rage was instead an averted Continental Crush, and instead Meowth was facing down a horde of rocks. The giant pokemon looks at Meowth, focuses...before spinning erratically as the chunks of building fly in all directions but yours, crashing into other homes in the area and causing grand vandalism. To Meowth's luck, the Claydol had become confused! Its mind a muddle, the pokemon is completely helpless as Hawkeye strides before Donovan, who has set some sort of green Z-crystal into your ring. However, this one sports a pattern not unlike a holly leaf, and the stance the man prepares for...

"Take aim, take to the skies, take the spirits and take our foe out!" Ducking down, Donovan rises up and thrusts arms out in a sort of comical fashion, like a caricature of a spooky ghost at halloween as energy flows from the ring to the Decidueye, as Amanda stands back. "That's...that's the signature Z-move of Decidueye...Sinister Arrow Raid!"

Without pause, the owl takes off into the sky, before thrusting wings open wide and unsheathing dozens of arrow quills in an arc around him, before flapping and diving down and across the ground. The arrows, possessed with ghostly energy, rush behind him as Hawkeye circles the Claydol, before a gleam in the eye leads the bird to swiftly turn and dive into the the pokemon, rushing clean through it with phantasmal force and landing deftly on his feet. All around, the arrows strike beneath and into the Claydol, each bursting with spectral power with a number of pops and cracks, the shadowy wisps floating around it as the energy wears off the Decidueye.

As the smoke fades, the Claydol floats, body all but pocked with holes and cracks, the confusion having been knocked clean out of it, and yet the pokemon still remains conscious, if one could put it that way. Teetering, the hate in the eyes of the Claydol no longer exists, and it looks right at Meowth, right at you, before slowly sinking. A faint hum emanates from the pokemon as the Scratch Cat pokemon almost seems entranced, giving a nod to the pokemon as you realise what's happening: no longer tainted by the gems, the Claydol is putting what little energy it has into coercing Meowth to end the fight the only way possible. With an air of reluctance, the feline calls upon a second water pulse and with a voiced apology, fires it into the front eye of Claydol.

The Claydol's eyes go blank as the watery missile punches straight through the clay body and out the other side, and as you see the other side of the field through the hole made, the Claydol stops floating and plummets to the ground, shattering on impact in a dignified manner, as you are given a grim reminder of the Sigilyph from before. A couple of seconds pass before the sound of voices and sirens blares through, but you hear and see nothing as the toll of your adventure causes you to black out, and the last thing you're aware of is Amanda catching you as you fall.

---

You awaken to the sensation of something nudging you, and what seems like a purple and yellow blotch with two red stripes looking down at you. You rub your head before your mind quickly connects the link between a familiar face and what the blotch is. Marvolo! The Seviper gives a satisfied hiss and calls out as you embrace your pokemon, and all too soon Meowth. Gemini and Mustard join you, as well as a man in official uniform.

"You're awake now, I see. Corporal Watson, with the Marshals, no relation to Mauville's Wattson. I've been tasked with the Amanda Firwood case and wish to ask you for your cooperation in discussing your accounts with her, if you're fine with that?" The man hands over a pen and paper before sitting down on a seat and continuing. "Rest assured, she is well now and undergoing counseling after the trauma she has been through, as is your...acquaintance, Donovan. His own reports and containment of the Black Scarab are well received, though he mentions you were the one responsible for ending its reign of terror in the city."

The marshal fills you in on the details of the case as you recount your experiences. With the Scarab no longer a threat, Donovan's part in the apprehension has earned him jail time, though his good deeds have lessened his sentence to only a few months. You've been out for a day or so, having exhausted yourself through repeated use of Z-moves over a short period of time, while your team have had recovery. Marvolo's state of injury was mostly mental, and a few hours of therapy with the centre's psychiatric unit has left him feeling good as new. Gemini and Mustard merely required a simple trip to the healing station, while Meowth's battle has left him mostly unscathed and a tad bit tougher as a result. Meowth gained 2 levels!

The major change, however, was with Ariana. Once you leave your bed, you are brought to the infirmary's refuse bay, where the Garbodor is munching on some waste. On your approach she turns around and beams, and it's not hard to see why. Having regained her strength on the hospital trash, the damaged green cloak she wore is now a silver foil, while her damaged piping has been replaced with a shiny bronze model, and what is unmistakably glass fragments dot her body, presumably from the beakers and flasks the hospital used. Ariana gained 3 levels! After a heartwarming reunion with what's doubtlessly a knight in shining not-quite-armour, you are eventually discharged from the hospital, and find yourself with a couple of loose ends to tie up, the first of which approaches you with a smile.

"Keith, you're out now!" Amanda waves as she reaches you, hand outstretched as you shake. "I was asked by Donovan to come fetch you, he wanted to thank you in person. Visiting time at the penitentiary's now, so I thought we could go there together." With an invite in hand, your group heads for the jail and after being ushered in, the man sits at a table, orange inmate jumpsuit and fedora replete, and a familiar Decidueye sitting by him, wearing a collar of sorts.

"Keith, lemme start by apologising for the whole case of mistaken identity, first and foremost. So yeah, twelve months for possession of illegal equipment, cut down to four for assistance in arrest of a wanted criminal, a risk I was wiliing to accept. Things haven't been too bad though, my fellow inmates hold respect for me in doing what I did, and it's safe to say that half the city has respect for you," he motions, calling one of the wardens over, the man holding a small package. "It ain't much, but the marshals wanted me to give you this from them for your part in saving the grove from the Claydol and bringing the Scarab to justice." Opening the package, you find $750 in a neat bundle, as well as some sort of clay that seems to shimmer with innate light. "Salvage crew found this amongst the remains of the Claydol, seems despite what it did to the square it had a heart of gold after all, ha."

"But in all seriousness Keith, thank you for your part in avenging my Vanguard friends, and in getting Amanda to safety. On that note..." he grins, leaning back slightly as the woman's turn to speak arrives.

"If it weren't for you, I'd be dead and forgotten...I can't begin to thank you for all you've done for me. My old home's unfortunately within Shell territory, but the marshals have got in touch with some contacts and they've secured a safe place for me in New Fizz City..." she sniffs, wiping tears of gratitude from her eyes. "It's not much, and more sentimental, but I wanted you to have this...it's a pendant my brother gave me years ago when he heard I was moving to Goldenridge." Placing the pendant into your palm, it is a simple golden drop with feathers, and a gleaming gemstone of lapis lazuli embedded in the centre, a gemstone meaning friendship. "I'm grateful for what you've done for me, and I'll never forget your kindness when I was at my lowest point in my life. With all sincerity Keith, thank you."

You, Amanda and Donovan talk among yourselves for a solid hour or so, sharing your plans for the future. Amanda mentions her wish to open a grooming service in the city, while Donovan's goal after his sentence is served is to assist the marshals in a planned push on Ribs territory. With all said and done, the three of you part, and as you stand outside the entrance to the city, something catches your eye. Standing off to the side is a Golett, hands clasped together as it seemingly looks at you. In a moment, the pokemon plods towards you and stops, before beginning to talk as Meowth translates.

"You have stood strong in the trial of endless sight, and have proven your strength against the totem who resides within the Goldenridge Catacombs. As proof of your achievements, you are to accept this prize, while we seek to train a new totem to bear commitment to the catacombs." Thrusting hands forth, they open to reveal a pink crystal with an eye inset, what is without doubt Psychium-Z. After taking the Z-crystal, the Golett gives a salute before wandering back into the city, presumably to return to the ruins to resume reconstruction. Holding the crystal in your hand, you feel as if the Claydol you battled is at peace once more, and as the sun sets, you can only wonder where life will take you next.

"Donovan, you got a visitor."

"Right, one sec."

The man rose from his bed and followed the warden to the visiting room, before blinking twice. [i]It couldn't be[/b], he thought as he found the visitor in question. Standing seven foot up, with a moustache that would put a Stoutland to shame, the grey eyes of the man pierced through the vigilante as he stepped forward.

"You would be this Donovan I hear of?" the man spoke, voice surprisingly soft given the size and stature, a man who oozed authority. "It would appear that our encounter was fated, but rest assured, there is nothing bad about our meeting. On the contrary, I am here to offer you an opportunity, one that has arrived out of convenience...that is, if you are willing to accept?"

Donovan scratched his chin. "You mean the marshals are ready to move out against the Ribs, already? Something's surely suspicious about this...but then, why would you ask of my aid?"

"It's a simple case of you having contacts with the Ribs. I'd rather not have a bloody battle with them, and above all else I'd rather have the Shells pushed off the city first, rather than the vandals and hoodlums that most of the Ribs are. We can discuss this in further detail next week."

"Well," he sighed, "given the circumstances, you've got my support, uh..."

The man nodded, before extending a hand to seal the deal.

"Lieutenant. Vicefeder, if you will."

It felt weird to Keith, removing his Z-Ring out in public, especially with the intention of handing it over to someone he'd met that same day. His left wrist felt naked without something on it, be it his Z-Ring or the Xtransceiver Keith sported in the days before acquiring said Z-Ring. But Donovan was a good man, Keith knew. He had in fact caught up earlier, with the means of catching the Black Scarab that he promised he'd bring. Claydol very likely needed a powerful move to finish it, and although he could simply turn Meowth's Icy Wind into another Subzero Slammer, Keith wasn't completely sure he had it in himself for another Z-Move so soon. Z-Moves required the willpower and physical strength of both Trainer and Pokémon, and while Keith was generally good for one or two in a given day, maybe three if he hadn't been doing anything too strenuous that day, there was no denying, this day's events could definitely be counted as strenuous.

As Donovan got himself ready, Meowth made his move, launching a Water Pulse at Claydol, the super effective move disrupting the Z-Move. "Direct hit!" Keith exclaimed. "Way to go, Meowth- wh-what?" he murmured, for at that moment, all sorts of rocks and debris rose up around the Claydol, a Power flowing through them that seemed primal, almost Ancient. Keith's eyes widened- he'd misinterpreted the color the crystals were glowing, and instead of Tectonic Rage, Water Pulse had stopped an Ancient Power-turned-Continental Crush! Of course, both Rock and Ground were weak to water, so the move Keith made was a good one in the end, but now there was this Ancient Power to contend with...

...except not really! Claydol suddenly started spinning erratically, and the debris flew in literally every other direction but Meowth's! Keith broke into a relieved grin- the Water Pulse must have confused Claydol! Oh, Keith chose very wisely there!

And that, it seemed, was Donovan's cue. Keith watched as he and Hawkeye readied their Z-Move. A pose unlike anything Keith had seen before, a Z-Crystal that looked grass-like, but Keith had a sneaking suspicion it was no Grassium Z. And sure enough, Donovan called for neither Bloom Doom nor Never-Ending Nightmare, but rather, the signature Z-Move of the Decidueye species, upgraded from Spirit Shackle; Sinister Arrow Raid. Keith watched, rather awed, as Hawkeye took off, spectral arrows swirling around him as he dove into the Claydol, the arrows assaulting the Ground/Psychic-type.

Once things died down, Keith could see what had become of the Claydol. Not a single Z-Crystal remained in its visibly damaged body, and not a trace of confusion or hatred remained in its eyes. The crystals, the source of its perpetual Z-Power and rage alike, had been totally destroyed.

In this moment, Keith was sorely tempted to try and do something. Turn his hat backwards and throw a Poké Ball at the Claydol. Take it to be healed, try and do something, anything, to try and get it a second chance, a chance to live a life free from the hatred that had so consumed it up until now. And yet, he could only stand there and watch. Claydol had locked eyes with Meowth, putting the last of its energy towards getting Meowth to finish things once and for all. And Keith could see the reluctance in Meowth's nod. For all the flak the feline tended to give Keith about impulsive catches, he would have gone along with this one. Yet at the same time, they both understood, much as they wanted to believe to the contrary... this was the only way. Claydol understood that better than either of them ever would.

It took but a single Water Pulse to drive that point home. One singular Technician-boosted Water Pulse to punch a hole clean through the Claydol's head, one subsequent fall to the ground to shatter it thoroughly. For all the destruction it had caused, for all it had done to Marvolo, for all it had tried to do to them... Keith felt sorry for the Claydol, having seen what it wanted to show him. It wasn't its fault that it was the way it was, and... uh... head hurty...

~~~
The next thing Keith knew, someone or something was nudging him. He opened his eyes, and before his vision could properly focus, he made out a purple and yellow blotch with two red stripes. It took him a moment for his mind to catch up and for his eyes to focus, but once both had happened, Keith realized what this blotch was. "...Marv?" he murmured.
"It's about damn time," hissed the Seviper, sounding more relieved than irritated. Keith smiled and chuckled- recalling the horrific ordeal Marvolo had been subjected to earlier, he was happy to see his Seviper back to normal. He pulled Marvolo into a hug, to which the Seviper responded by gently Wrapping Keith in his coils. Then he turned his head to the door. "He's awake!" he called out.
The door flew open, Meowth being the first one in, jumping into Keith's arms, as Gemini and Mustard floated into the room as well. The touching group hug that followed was relatively short-lived, as a man in official uniform entered, introducing himself as Corporal Watson. He was in charge of Amanda's case, and he asked Keith to cooperate, discuss what happened with her. "Of course," Keith nodded, sitting up in bed, and they talked. Keith recounted what had happened since arriving in Goldenridge- the mistaken identity because of his Scolipede's coloration. Him and Amanda being accidentally dropped down into the underground tunnels. Fighting off the Rattata (Marvolo gave a satisfied hiss at this, still digesting some of those Rattata and remembering the exotic flavor of the Alolan ones). Amanda waking up and Keith convincing her to tell him her story. The escape from Claydol initially. The return to the surface, finding everything destroyed. The battle against the Black Scarab, and the subsequent battle against Claydol.
In return, Corporal Watson filled Keith in on the details of the case. As Keith had feared, Donovan was facing jail time for what he'd done, but the good he'd done in the process led to a considerably lessened sentence. Keith was still of the opinion Donovan shouldn't have had any jail time at all, but he supposed this was still way better than having to serve a full sentence. Amanda was fine now, undergoing counseling. Keith had been out for a day or so, between repeated use of Z-Moves and the fairly strenuous nature of the day he'd had. His team recovered very well- Marvolo needed a few hours with the center's psychiatric unit, his injuries being more of mind than of body. Meowth, Gemini, and Mustard were much better off, the Weezing only needing a trip to the healing station, and Meowth largely unscathed. But, Keith had made a point to ask following all this, what about his Garbodor?
He soon got his answer, once he left his bed and was led to the refuse bay. Keith could see Ariana in there, snacking on some garbage, but something looked different. And as she turned around, smiling happily, Keith got a good look. The tattered remnants of dark green garbage bag were now a shiny silver. The metal piping that made up parts of her arms were now a lovely bronze. And the dots of garbage that adorned her body were now bits of glass. Keith beamed at the sight of his Garbodor, and the two shared a heartfelt embrace that would either warm the heart or turn the stomach of any onlooker, depending on their point of view.
Eventually, Keith was discharged from the hospital, and was almost immediately approached by Amanda, who greeted him and shook his hand. "Yeah, I'm out now," Keith nodded with a smile. "My Pokémon are doing fine, too- you should see Ariana in particular, she's looking amazing," he added. But that would have to wait- Amanda had been sent by Donovan to come and get him. He'd wanted to thank Keith in person, and it was currently visiting time at the penitentiary, so Amanda figured they could go together. "Sure," Keith agreed.
And soon, they were there. Donovan still wore his fedora, though now it accompanied an orange prison jumpsuit, and Hawkeye was wearing some kind of collar, likely one that stopped him from using attacks or passing through solid objects like the Ghost-type that he was.
The first thing Donovan did was apologize for the mistaken identity, causing Keith to smile and shake his head. "Water under the bridge," he said to both Donovan and Hawkeye. Donovan went on to explain that the initial sentence was one year for possession of illegal equipment, but his help in bringing the Black Scarab to justice got it cut down to four, and on top of that, he was respected by the inmates for what he'd done. Keith was then presented with a package as thanks for his help, containing a tidy sum of money and a lump of Light Clay, the latter of which the salvage crew found within what remained of the Claydol. This... had been a part of that Claydol, Keith realized. A true heart of gold. Donovan had said so rather jokingly, but Keith nodded in sincere agreement.
He couldn't dwell on it for long, however- now it was Amanda's turn to speak. Words could hardly convey her gratitude for what Keith had done for her, for how he helped her out when she was at her lowest point. She couldn't give him much of anything of value, but did have something more of sentimental value that she wanted him to have. Keith accepted the pendant with a smile. "It's no problem," he responded. "I'm just happy I could help, y'know?"
For the next hour or so, they talked. Talked about their plans moving forward. Amanda was hoping to open a grooming service in New Fizz City. Donovan was planning to, following the completion of his four-month sentence, assist the marshals against the Ribs. And Keith, of course, his goal remained the same. Become a Pokémon master, a master of Poison-types, one who could change the world's generally negative view of Poison-types. He'd keep traveling the Fizzytopia region, keep helping anyone he could. He wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was.
At last, it came time for Keith to leave Goldenridge City. Back to normal. Meowth on his shoulder, Mega Hat on his head, Z-Ring back in place on his wrist, random Golett standing near the entrance of the city... wait, what?
Sure enough, the Ground/Ghost-type stepped forward, stopping before Keith and beginning to speak. Meowth, taking the cue, translated. "Golett's sayin' youse stood strong in da trial o' endless sight, and proved yer strength against da totem o' da Goldenridge Catacombs," he said.
"The totem?" Keith repeated. "The... the Claydol?"
"I guess," Meowth shrugged. "Golett's also sayin' youse earned a prize fer yer achievements." At this point, Golett opened its hands, revealing said prize to Keith- a Z-Crystal.
"Oh, wow," Keith murmured, accepting the Z-Crystal. Golett gave a salute and headed back into the city, as Keith examined the pink crystal. The design resembled an eye, and the color... this was the same color that Claydol's crystals had glowed just before it hit Marvolo with Shattered Psyche. "So... this must be the Psychium Z," he murmured. "Well... we're not keeping this," he said.
"Eh?!" Meowth exclaimed in surprise.
"Marv might be better now, but the last thing I want is to keep around such a blatant reminder of what he went through," Keith stated. "We'll find someone else to take this Z-Crystal. Maybe someone who's good with Psychic-types," he speculated. Indeed, he had no way of knowing this at the present time, but as he spoke those words, his Swoobat had started to get a premonition of just such a person, a young teenager from Johto. One who might just be capable of training Luna and some of her teammates to be even better than Keith had gotten them...
But at this moment, Keith was headed home. He knew not what the future held in store, but whatever it was, he was sure he and his Pokémon would be ready to handle it.
Biggggg5: Climbing back upwards did not appeal to you in the slightest, so you end up trying your chances through the tunnel. The tunnel behind you seems to go deeper into the mine, heading downward for a long spiral, something that Alucard’s echolocation can confirm, if there is an exit that way, it will be for miles. The only other exit appears to be the one on the other side of the resting room. However, as soon as you enter, a monitor inside springs to life. A familiar red R appears on the monitor followed by a staticky image of an elderly man with his pet Sneasel sitting behind a wooden desk made of Mahogany.
The man starts speaking, “Welcome, my latest batch, to the testing facility.” Any answer is futile as this appears to be a prerecorded message. “As you may or may not be aware, you were specifically bred to be the best of the best. Here in our cozy secret lab, we have been breeding the most powerful Pokemon in order to further our goals. I am Doctor Johnson, your supervisor, and father…well surrogate father, or something, I dunno. Anyways, we need to get to testing. To start off with, we need to test your knowledge of the human language. So if you want to survive, take the doorway on the left, and don’t follow the Sneasel’s instructions.”
Then the Sneasel pops up with his own instructions. Alucard understands it as “This is something to test your obedience. Go to the door on the right.” Above the right doorway marks the words “Acid Bath Incinerator 8000. Warning, do not enter!”
The exit doorway however, appears to be on the far far right away from the monitor with the neon red words “EXIT” appearing above it. However, unlike the other doors to the facility, this one is heavily industrily reinforced.
“Now I’m sure you’re eager to see the world above and all that,” Johnson chimes in. “However, you need to know that the only way out is through our series of tests, as the exit door has been tested to keep out even a powerhouse like Machamp. We paid a fortune for it, and I bet you can see that too. I wanted the gold plated one, but budget cuts make things hard. Anyways, you graduate through our tests, however, you’ll be granted the key out and be free to follow your legally obligated destiny.” In fine print on the monitor it reads, “enslaved to Team Rocket and used for further breeding purposes as well as battle.”
“Okay, now that that’s done, please proceed.”
Any attempts to go through the door on the far far right appear to be in vain. He wasn’t lying when he said that the doorway was difficult to get through. So instead you have two choices to make, you can either go through with the tests, or you can try your luck with the Acid Bath Incinerator 8000, or you could try to go deeper into the cave behind you and hope for the best, but as stated before it goes downward for at least a mile. What will you do?
Big follows down one of the tunnels before coming upon several man-made doors along with a monitor. "What is this so deep down he-" He ponders but is cut off when the monitor clicks on and displays its video. He glances at each of the doorways as they come up. "Hmm..." He ponders as Alucard chuckles. "Well, he certainly is a card." The bat pokemon chuckles. Big mostly ignores the comment. "Well, even if this is a Rocket hideout, I'd assume that whatever 'testing' that goes on can't be terribly difficult." Alucard tilts his head. "And you figure that how?" "Well, the Johnson guy said that they were testing those bred to be powerful pokemon." He says. "And that would imply the tests are for strong pokemon, but if these are newly bred pokemon then they can't be terribly hard tests right?" Alucard shrugs. "These are Rockets though. Weren't they dismantled in Kanto by a ten-year-old? They can't be terribly smart." "What's your point?" Big asks. "Well, if you would let me finish, I was getting to that. Rockets aren't smart, and no one has heard of any of them having any super pokemon. So I'm guessing this testing isn't super well put together." Big scratches his chin. "Hmm, well let's give it a shot anyway. It at least sounds better than a super scary acid room of acid." He sighs and heads for the testing rooms. He ponders heading deeper into the caves for a moment but decides that these tests are probably the most fun option.
The deed is done. And even though you were just forced to kill, and the sickly sensation that has been nagging you from the onset is getting progressively worse, you decide to manly push forward in your quest to blatantly disobey the Marshals.
So manly in fact, that you decide to cauterize the wound right then and there with fire. Sigurd tilts his head in hesitation, but orders are orders; he psychically guides one of the Will-o-Wisps towards you and gently pushes the embers towards the cut on your manly bicep.
Nearly-unbearable heat spreads through your arm, causing you to let out a scream against your own will, but it gets the job done; you no longer feel the blood trickling down your skin, and at least on that front, you no longer have to worry about growing weaker. However…
Your team presses onward, the tunnel being linear in its progression. The more you walk, the closer you come to the violet line glowing faintly in the distance. And it is precisely that slow, steady approach that makes you feel sicker the longer you keep going – so much so that, after some more minutes of advancing along the path, Sigurd falls to one knee, Blinky briefly loses his footing and you feel an overwhelming need to vomit. After throwing up you feel somewhat better, but you know the problem hasn’t gone away.
Radiation Poisoning Lv 1: You can only order up to three total attacks between all of your active Pokemon. The accuracy of your non-Steel-Type Pokemon is reduced by 20%. Cannot be cured by items.
Composure regained, your Gallade holds out an arm, halting your progress. With his head he motions up ahead – you hadn’t realized it, but you’ve made your way very close to the source of the violet light. It radiates from a side tunnel to your left, a faint glow both inviting and frightening at the same time. The tunnel you’ve been walking along, meanwhile, ends abruptly – for real this time, judging by the very solid-looking wall up ahead, so taking the left turn towards the light, or retreating altogether, seem to be your only option. Sigurd wants to make sure you’re ready before you make either call.
"FUCKKKKKK!", Jayson couldn't help but let it slip as Sigurd seared his wound closed. He'd done this a few times now but it didn't get any less painful. He wouldn't lose anymore blood but that didn't mean he was out of the woods yet, well out of the tunnels to be more precise. They were all now experiencing the symptoms of radiation poisoning, apart from Iron Maiden and Honedge who were lucky enough to be shielded by their Steel typing. Sigurd and Blinky were looking worse for wear, he'd recall both of them if he wasn't relying on them for light. Sigurd was the most important of the two, if he went down then they wouldn't be able to Teleport out. Jayson reluctantly recalled the Gallade, they would have to do without his aid for a while.
Their surroundings were darker now, although a violet light was shining from a side tunnel, likely the source of the radiation. Jayson was startled as Iron Maiden rolled in front of Blinky, the Ferroseed's body was starting to glow. For a moment Jayson thought she was evolving, but when her body stayed the same he realised this was something else. Her steel coating was shining so bright it was like a polished Mirror. The light from Blinky's antenna was being reflected by the shiny surface and shot around the tunnel. Jayson gave Iron Maiden a nod in acknowledgement, it was very clever and thoughtful of her.
"Alright guys, let's see what is causing all this radiation before we get too sick to continue." Jayson coughed into his hand. Valka was going to be so pissed at him when he got home.... if he got home..... "Be prepared for anything, Blinky use Soak, Iron Maiden use Thunder Wave and Honedge use Metal Sound at the first sight of resistance. We can't afford to be caught off guard again."
“Keep hard at work and you’ll eventually get a card with your pretty face on it, just like this one,” says one of them as he shows off his own ID, a Lv 2 Keycard with proper identification, unlike the blank one you just showed. “Go on in, that haul looks heavy this time around.”
“Quartermaster’s getting even lazier lately, sending grunts like her to carry his stuff…”
They unlock the door and step aside. And just like that, you have unrestricted access to Marquis Rigel von Argentus’s private quarters… as long as you don’t take too long inside.
Hermes easily phases through the wall and joins you inside, clearly disappointed he couldn’t feast on human souls just yet. Looking around, you realize combing through the room shouldn’t take too long, because these really are some crappy accommodations for the grand Leader of the Shells…
The room is just as small as the quartermaster’s shop. There is a bed next to the right wall, a probably-locked iron chest at the bed’s feet, a wooden desk with three drawers underneath, and a small bookcase with three shelves on the wall to your left; books on finance and administration on the top one, Goldenridge history books on the middle, and architecture books on the bottom shelf. And that’s it – not a trace of decorations, pictures or anything else to distinguish this room from that of a regular grunt’s.
If you take too long to search for that mysterious code the quartermaster mentioned, the guards outside might get suspicious. Any plans to get this done as quickly as possible?
Alice smiled, too, albeit meekly as the guards reminisced. "Thanks. Hopefully by then I'll have some bigger arm muscles to show for it." She joked, crossing the threshold into the marquis' room. She closed the door behind her, setting down the box with some relief onto the floor. Hermes' revealed himself to her, and although the Pokemon was expressionless aside from his eye, she could tell he would've preferred a sketchier outcome. Well, it was early hours yet, and Alice had enough scares so far that she was certain Hermes would get his time soon enough.
"Okay, guys, listen up." The young woman said quietly after a quick sweep of the room. "Zoey, I want you to listen out for anything going on. And if you can sense anything like that hidden room or whatever, let me know. Hermes, try busting open that chest's lock from the inside, or dragging out whatever's in it if there's anything important or valuable. And let me know if you sense anything important, too."
She released her Abra, making it quick and not showy, the sleepy pink psychic spawning onto the floor. "Axel, sweep the room with your psychic powers. Remember guys, there should be a code or something in here somewhere. And if you find the key to this box, I need it." As quickly as she showed it, Alice shoved it deep into the bag again where it had been before. "Quick, quiet, efficient. And Axel, stay on alert, because we might need you to teleport us out of this mess if shit gets messy. Hermes, you, too. If they open that door on us or whatever, I want them silenced before they can do anything. Your false swipe could help make them weak enough. Zoey, your quick attack and hypnosis would be helpful with that. Just, let's get this done, yes?"
With that, the idol joined in the sweep with her Pokemon, beginning to rifle through things, trying to be speedy but not noisy or leave signs of disturbances in her wake.
Tate-
The Smeargle mused over the idea of joining your team for a while, seeming to make Pena more and more worried as each second passed by. It looked like the world was coming to a halt for the little Tyrogue. The first real friend he had made, and now their was a chance to never seem them again despite being offered to come with them. He wanted this, you could easily tell that. The silence was deafening for sure, but you knew it was something you ultimate couldn't force in the end.
The Smeargle started to move its tail, starting to paint something on the ground. Pena watched, trembling, as the world once again was set in motion. Watched every brush stroke as the Smeargle took its time to paint out its decision. Though, while the Smeargle was going at a slower pace, what it was drawing wasn't complex. You could see bits of hesitation as it did its strokes, that it was still questioning if its decision was the right one. After all, this was a possible huge change for the Pokemon.
Though, the Smeargle was soon done. A Poke Ball was painted on the ground, green like always, and an arrow pointing to the Smeargle. It seems that the decision was made. it would go with you. Once the capture was done, this little excursion to Bedlam Ridge would be done and over with. After all, it was nice to do something peaceful and fun in this city of greed. Then again, a star will always shine through the filth and muck. Happiness was found where you made it, as some people say.
And thus concludes your adventure in Bedlam Ridge, I know it was short but I hope it at the very least satisfied what you were looking for! Your reward is a:
Lv. 11 Male Smeargle
Meetan:
You call upon the help of your very-pink Abra to join the efforts of the rest of the team. You stay behind issuing instructions, until you join the search yourself, but not seeming to settle for any particular point of interest.
Zoey uses her ultrasound to scan for any hidden compartments, but seems to find nothing of interest, and her blindness doesn’t help in the actual search; as such, she stands by for any trace of incoming people that might surprise you during the raid.
Axel, floating slightly above the ground, keeps his eyes closed to heighten his still-budding Psychic sensibility. He knows he’s supposed to look for some code, but it turns out mental powers are a lot more useful in reading minds and lifting stuff up than tracking down unknown bits of text hidden inside inanimate objects. In that regard, Axel ends up having as much luck as Zoey…
Hermes, however, takes a different approach, yielding very different results: he knows he cannot drag objects along as he phases through solid surfaces, but he can follow your instructions to the letter here: he vanishes inside the iron chest, then rematerializes inside and forcefully priest the lock open; the noise of metal parts cracking and breaking under Hermes’s blade, followed by the loud thud of the entire lock falling off, is far from inconspicuous, but the deed is done!
*Hermes has gained 2 Levels!*
You walk over to the chest, hoping to find either the key to your tiny box Tim or the code that will give you access to that hidden room Sven Larson mentioned. What you do find, however, is a 1x Family Photograph of the Salamence rider you met before – Marquis Rigel von Argentus, of course – next to a small girl no older than ten, both in civilian clothes and smiling, with a sunny countryside background. You briefly hope to find some sort of text scribbled on the back of the picture, but there’s nothing; still, if it was kept so tightly locked away, this photo must be precious to Rigel – is sentimental value all there is to it?
You are almost ready to shift your attention elsewhere when something glimmers inside the chest, tucked away to the side. It’s a small glass vial, filled up to the middle with a strange golden liquid. There’s a small paper tag strapped to the vial’s neck, and it reads “don’t forget: long-time dedication award for Quartermaster Williams”. It seems this 1x Shiny Potion, which is now yours, was meant for someone else - and that the quartermaster might have the wrong impression of Rigel’s opinion of him…
Suddenly, Zoey lets out a small cry of alarm. Busting in through the door, the two guards you met earlier look alarmed, no doubt alerted by the noise of the iron chest being forcefully opened.
“The hell was that ruckus?”
“How long does it take to drop off a crate? H-Hey, what do you think you’re d—“
The man is cut off as he is cut down. Hermes, wasting no time and relishing the opportunity, False Swipes the two men across the torso, only failing to kill them because you explicitly ordered a reverse-blade strike – Himura Kenshin would be proud.
Zoey follows up with a Quick Attack, darting across the air and slamming into the guard on the left, who loses his footing and falls on his back; he does not get back up. She then tries to Hypnotize the other guard with a mystifying dance (lacking the more obvious alternatives of eyes or limbs), but it turns out that is extremely difficult to do on a man who has just been slashed to near-death and is in unbearable pain.
“Y-you… bitch… I’ll e-end you!!”
In a flash of light, a Houndour emerges from a PokeBall haphazardly dropped by the bleeding man. It growls ominously, embers escaping its open jaws.
You’ve been busted! What now?!
TheKnightsFury:
As the effects of radiation poisoning begin to set in, you realize it might be time for a team reassessment. After all, Sigurd is your trump card, and you might need him later on. Now, your phalanx consists of Blinky the Chinchou, Iron Maiden the Ferroseed, and Honedge the… Honedge.
Iron Maiden reveals a literally bright side to her, creatively employing a contained Mirror Shot to enhance the effects of Blinky’s natural light, thereby compensating the loss of Sigurd’s Will-o-Wisp embers. You order your team to stand at attention, pre-emptively issuing instructions in case something was lurking in the shadows around the corner. And with that, you decide to muscle onwards toward the light source, if anything to solve the mystery. Hopefully curiosity only kills cats.
You take a turn towards the side tunnel, and an admittedly beautiful violet light bathes you as well as the surrounding area – so much so that visibility here is completely restored even without the need for Blinky and Iron Maiden’s help. You see a large, spacious cave, without a trace of life except for you and your party. However, there is a sleeping bag in miserable state resting on the floor to your right, several small pieces of coal scattered about – no doubt pried off the mine walls – and several old, half-torn pieces of paper all over the sleeping bag. There’s also a small leather pouch resting atop one of the papers, but there seems to be nobody around to claim ownership of it. Could these belong to?...
Blinky suddenly falls over, light-headed and looking very sickly – so much so that it’s as if its very skin is starting to change colour, impossible as though that may be. But your Chinchou isn’t the only one feeling the heightened effects of radiation in this room; you too are starting to feel dizzy, and your stomach feels like it’s about to jump out of your mouth.
Radiation Poisoning Lv 2: You can only order up to two total attacks between all your active Pokémon. The accuracy of your non-Steel-Type Pokémon is reduced by 25%. Your non-Steel and non-Poison-Type Pokémon are now Poisoned. Cannot be cured by items
Honedge seems largely oblivious to the makeshift sleeping quarters you just found, or any of its contents. Its single eye is instead turned to the source of the violet light, coming from the far wall of the cave: a huge pile of rocks rests there, as if part of the cave collapsed, and between the boulders and rubble is a bright object casting the gorgeously-deadly glow.
What will you do?
Axel, floating slightly above the ground, keeps his eyes closed to heighten his still-budding Psychic sensibility. He knows he’s supposed to look for some code, but it turns out mental powers are a lot more useful in reading minds and lifting stuff up than tracking down unknown bits of text hidden inside inanimate objects. In that regard, Axel ends up having as much luck as Zoey…
Hermes, however, takes a different approach, yielding very different results: he knows he cannot drag objects along as he phases through solid surfaces, but he can follow your instructions to the letter here: he vanishes inside the iron chest, then rematerializes inside and forcefully priest the lock open; the noise of metal parts cracking and breaking under Hermes’s blade, followed by the loud thud of the entire lock falling off, is far from inconspicuous, but the deed is done!
*Hermes has gained 2 Levels!*
You walk over to the chest, hoping to find either the key to your tiny box Tim or the code that will give you access to that hidden room Sven Larson mentioned. What you do find, however, is a 1x Family Photograph of the Salamence rider you met before – Marquis Rigel von Argentus, of course – next to a small girl no older than ten, both in civilian clothes and smiling, with a sunny countryside background. You briefly hope to find some sort of text scribbled on the back of the picture, but there’s nothing; still, if it was kept so tightly locked away, this photo must be precious to Rigel – is sentimental value all there is to it?
You are almost ready to shift your attention elsewhere when something glimmers inside the chest, tucked away to the side. It’s a small glass vial, filled up to the middle with a strange golden liquid. There’s a small paper tag strapped to the vial’s neck, and it reads “don’t forget: long-time dedication award for Quartermaster Williams”. It seems this 1x Shiny Potion, which is now yours, was meant for someone else - and that the quartermaster might have the wrong impression of Rigel’s opinion of him…
Suddenly, Zoey lets out a small cry of alarm. Busting in through the door, the two guards you met earlier look alarmed, no doubt alerted by the noise of the iron chest being forcefully opened.
“The hell was that ruckus?”
“How long does it take to drop off a crate? H-Hey, what do you think you’re d—“
The man is cut off as he is cut down. Hermes, wasting no time and relishing the opportunity, False Swipes the two men across the torso, only failing to kill them because you explicitly ordered a reverse-blade strike – Himura Kenshin would be proud.
Zoey follows up with a Quick Attack, darting across the air and slamming into the guard on the left, who loses his footing and falls on his back; he does not get back up. She then tries to Hypnotize the other guard with a mystifying dance (lacking the more obvious alternatives of eyes or limbs), but it turns out that is extremely difficult to do on a man who has just been slashed to near-death and is in unbearable pain.
“Y-you… bitch… I’ll e-end you!!”
In a flash of light, a Houndour emerges from a PokeBall haphazardly dropped by the bleeding man. It growls ominously, embers escaping its open jaws.
You’ve been busted! What now?!
Alice was disappointed that Zoey and Axel were having as much as luck as she was, but perhaps she should have expected that. Lesson learned. The lock was noisy, and Alice visibly froze and cringed, the expression she pulled as dramatic as any idol reaction queen could be. "Oh, Hermes, you beauty." She whispered, scampering over to begin delving through the broken bounty. The family picture was a bust, too, but it was intriguing to see how the marquis had once been. Was that his kid? Alice wondered what was going on there.
She put the photo into her pocket anyway, just incase, blue eyes attracted to something shimmering in the void. It was an item she recognised as having an extortionate price tag - a Shiny Potion seemingly meant for the Quartermaster. "Thank you. I have worked hard." She drawled sarcastically, willing to swipe the treasure as means for payback of her treatment before. Zoey began screeching from her perch and Alice jerked up to her feet in time to see the door open. Well, fuck.
Hermes did his job like a champ. One of the guards dropped like a fly, but the other was still up and ready for a brawl. Fine. "Hermes, keep searching the room." She ordered of the sword. Her next order was in her mind, conveyed to Axel who expected as such and was already taking note. "Take over Zoey's job. You might need to teleport us out of here. If this guard tries to contact anyone, smash the device and smash him, too. And close that door behind him and lock it. We don't need the interruption.
"Zoey, come back for now." Alice added. Time to take out this Houndour. "Blaze, come on out here. Use focus energy and double team, then strike with bounce!" She released from a Love Ball an also very-pink Torchic, the bird small but clearly battle ready. She didn't want this Houndour sticking around long given that Blaze was her barely-exception to the whole fire-struggle issue of hers, and also because the longer this dragged out, the more dangerous it was. "Axel, I have an idea! Probe that other guard's mind for information. See if there's anything we can use! When you're done, switch target."
Well, she'd already kinda killed one dude doing it, so...
((Using this post as confirmation that the shiny potion is to be used on my Furfrou, Dutchess, heh.))
Grabbing the two torn pieces of canvas, you pull them back towards one another, the glow along the edges intensifies as they get closer. As the two edges meet, you hear the dim ring of bells and a bright flash that quickly envelops the whole room.
Everything starts to spin and warp, you can feel your stomach making its way up into your throat. Your Pokemon cling onto your legs for stability, thankfully they seemed to be experiencing the same phenomenon as you. Eventually the light fades and your surroundings start to steady. The room looked familiar, but it was different than before. The painting still rested on the wall in front of you, however it was now in one piece and there was no sign it had ever been torn. The room was now immaculate, like it had been freshly cleaned. A computer sat on a nearby desk, a tower of documents sat beside it. Orange light filtered in through the window as the sun began to set over the horizon. Your Pokemon are quite confused, none of them are sure what is going on. While you try and work out what happened, you're interrupted as the door flings open behind you.
"Who are you and what are you and these Pokemon doing in my wife's office?!" The man stood at roughly 6 foot, dressed in suit and tie he looked like a proper businessman. His glasses sat sturdy on his face, his brown hair was cut short and clean. You hear a buzzing noise, the source of which becomes obvious as an Elekid steps out from behind him, windmilling its arms as it begins to charge electricity. The Electric type seemed more aggravated than its trainer, but if you weren't quick to reply the man certainly wouldn't stop the Elekid from attacking.
Of all the things that could have happened, this was not something Hanson had anticipated. Although, in all honesty, he hadn’t anticipated much of anything at all when he joined the two halves of the painting, it just… seemed like a nice thing to do. But hey, it did something. Something big.
“Wait. Waaait a minute. The hell are we?!”
His partners seemed equally dumbfounded, and none of them were too certain of what had happened either. But whereas Hanson didn’t even realize the actual room was still the same, Breaker the Nidoran (the brightest of the bunch, for all intents and purposes) seemed aware of it – except the room looked massively different from how it was only a fraction of second before.
It seemed the abandoned room had transformed into a neatly organized office, complete with a desk, a computer and more papers than Hanson had ever held in his lifetime. It also came with one extra human, it seemed, as a man walked into the room looking only slightly less annoyed than his Electric-Type companion.
“L-look mister, I have no idea how I wound up here! I mean, I kinda do but it makes no sense,” stammered the Gentle Giant, “because you see, the room was all empty and gloomy and this painting here was torn in half and it started to glow and I kinda thought I should put it back together and I did and then something really weird happened and I looked around and I was here and there’s a computer and there’s papers and there’s you and there’s…. aww, look, an Elekid!”
As Hanson continued his verbal barrage of storytelling, Buster the Totodile stepped forward at the same time as Elekid did. The Water-Type could sense blossoming confrontation a mile away, and the prospect of duking it out with anyone always made him more excited than it should. He didn’t know how to pick his battles, but he knew he wanted them – not out of malice or rebellious nature, but because the dragon blood in his veins burned with a desire for competition. It took Bomber to step in and pull Buster back before he engaged the living dynamo, or things could get ugly quickly.
“Anyway as I was saying, it’s all a huge misunderstanding. I mean, come on, do I look like I belong in an office?” He really didn’t.
There seems to be little alternative: you'll have to fight your way out, or Teleport away if things get out of hand. Either way, your cover has been blown, and minimizing the impact is your top priority - as in, nobody besides these two can know you're a spy. But how will you make sure of that?
Axel dutifully uses his Psychic powers to force the chamber's door shut, finding it much easier than looking for random codes in random locations. Zoey falls back, and Blaze the Pink Torchic enters the fray as your new combatant, ready to stand up to the fearsome Houndour up ahead. Hermes, meanwhile, begrudgingly resumes scanning the room; between his complete lack of disposition to search rather than fight and the vague instructions to "keep looking", however, the living sword seems to wander around mostly aimlessly rather than try his luck in any particular spot. Maybe you should've been a tad more specific, but the battle ahead understandably takes priority!
Images begin to flood your mind as Axel probes the still-standing guard, but it doesn't seem to help: this Shell isn't privy to the code you're looking for, nor the location of the hidden room that the Quartermaster said could be found in the Chapel. Instead, you get images of Rigel appointing him to guard his room, declaring it to be a great honour that he only entrusts to those he respects, and it's as if you can feel the heavy load of disappointment currently overwhelming the struggling grunt, who knows he has let his Marquis down. Proceeding to invade the downed guard's mind, Axel again turns up nothing majorly significant, but you are greeted with an image of Rigel personally showing his quarters to the two guards, insisting they know exactly what they're guarding; the more you learn about the Marquis, the more strangely honest and simple he seems...
"That chest there is where I keep what matters most to me", Rigel's voice rings in your head. "Take a look inside if you want. It may not seem much to you... it's a photo of me and my daughter Madeleine. If nothing else, this chest is what you'll guard with your lives."
"Y-yes Marquis," you then hear the guard say, visibly stunned by the immense letdown that were the chest's contents. "You can count on us.".
After that, Axel can show you nothing more, but even if he could, your attention is diverted to more pressing matters:
Growling maliciously, the hellhound cub glares at Blaze as if it was a meal rather than an opponent. Meanwhile, the brave chick focuses its energy as hard as it can to match up to the bigger foe, thoroughly unafraid. When the dog charges with fangs glistening dangerously, Blaze counters by summoning three copies of itself, which all proceed to jump in the air much to Houndour's confusion.
"G-get them," mutters the guard as he winces in pain, "find out the real one with Odor Sleuth!"
Blaze and its clones begin to descend, homing in on Houndour like feather-covered meteors to deliver a Bounce attack. However, the dog is quick to identify the real one through smell, and as Blaze is about to make contact with its target, Houndour opens its mouth and catches the chick's leg! The illusions disperse and Blaze desperately tries to escape Houndour's grip, to no avail. And then comes the order...
"... Eat it."
There really wasn't much to see, but perhaps Alice would leave the photograph behind after all, take pictures of it with her phone just incase it meant anything. Yes, Rigel had done some shit, but she wasn't going to steal a treasured family photo if there was really nothing to it. As it was, though, the battle had her attention again, and it wasn't going as swimmingly as she'd hoped.
"I don't fucking think so, you arse." She replied, angered at the order. Ruthless fuck. Blaze was distressed, but there was no need. With close proximity, the Houndour had put itself in some severe danger. Even moreso as Blaze grew frantic and angry. Alice had opened her mouth again, only managing to get out her Pokemon's name and one attack order when the little thing began to glow. Oh, goodness--!
Within the canine's maw, Blaze began to glow, one leg extending along with the rest of his body, and with that he must have been heavy for the dog to cling to like that. In fact, Blaze's position had changed so that he was leaning over onto the floor, the light fading away to reveal a vibrantly pink Combusken. Alice was in awe. Even Hermes had taken pause to look, before resuming his bored floating about.
"Wow... Blaze, you're a Combusken now! -- Make that thing pay!" And so he did. Visibly Bulking Up, the Pokemon used his newfound strength and size to unleash a flurry of Swift stars and then aim a hard Low Kick right at the enemy with his free leg. "That's the stuff! Now, Axel, check out those desk drawers! And tell Hermes to sneak up on that grunt from the back and take him out, too!" She added silently. In the back, Hermes phased from sight within seconds, probably glad to get a taste of the action. He'd surely make it count. He'd take out whoever else was dumb enough to try breaking into the room, too, if he had a choice in it.
Please reply in Beige
Biggggg5: A loud booming "Congratulations" can be heard over the loudspeaker as you enter through the correct door and close it. Colorful confetti falls over you. "You have passed the first test, and in record time too. Good job on being able intelligent enough to understand English, took my kids 2 years, can you believe that? Incidentally, these messages are pre-recorded as well, giving your brain loads of dopamine with celebrations. But seriously, confetti is expensive, so the automated vacuum should kick on any second." Sure enough the floor below you starts to have some suction taking up the small pieces of paper, it turning out to be a grate. Alucard gets forced down onto the grate's powerful suction but luckily he's too big to be pulled thorugh. Below the grate you can see a few very tiny bones, possibly meaning that some pokemon were not as lucky as your Zubat. After a few seconds, the vacuums stop, and you can focus on the tunnel in front of you.
It leads down a winding corridor, the sound of rushing water fills the otherwise deserted cavern, until you find yourself at your first destination. You come across a fork in the road, the right leads to a door, above which the words "Locked" appear on top of it. Any attempts to open it would, in fact, confirm the sign. To the left, however, it leads to a larger cavern with an underground waterfall off to your immediate left. To the far right you can see what appear to be gigantic industrial fans without any covers. The abyss in front of you leads very very very deep, one slip and it could spell disaster. Across the abyss about half of a football field's length from where you're standing is something metallic and sparkly.
When you enter the room, you apparently trigger the next message. "Welcome to your first real test. I know I know, you're very excited to get through this to prove you are the very best. Well, this one is straight forward, you just need to get that key you see hanging across the abyss. For those of you without eyes, it's that noise of something swaying back and forth. Anyways, the test is simple, get the key and get out. That's it. Okay, test start!"
The fans start to whir to life. Causing a giant suction towards them. You apparently need the key, you could attempt to shimmy the cliff siding to get to the key, but that would mean going through the waterfall width-wise, not to mention the fans might start to suck you in, or you could try something else. What will you do?
Freighya looked worried at the sound, but seemed to gain more confidence when she noticed you feeding the several candies to Ducklett. The Espeon focused as much of her energy on her psychic powers, providing a sense of hope to those still stuck inside. As your Ducklett finishes the last of the rare candy, she looks incredibly energized. She flaps her small wings in excitement and lets you know she is prepared to unleash her newly learned attack. The Ducklett opened her beak and an orb of water began to form, growing larger as the little blue Pokemon concentrated more and more energy. It reached the size of a large beach ball, and a Pulse of Water flew forward. Ducklett continued with the attack, and sent several more pulses at the burning building. The waves of water rushed over the walls and windows, putting out the areas of fire it touched. Becky, shocked by the power of Ducklett’s moved, almost forgot to continue using Water Gun. The last of the water hit just before the door of the building bursts open, black smoke pouring out of it. As the smoke clears you spot two figures, the smaller one leaning on the larger one. Jeremy and Samantha come sputtering and coughing into view, Mathilda safe in Samantha’s arms. The group makes their way over to you, Jeremy giving you a smile and a thumbs-up before going back into a coughing fit.
You feel a hand on your shoulder, and turn to see the head of the fire brigade, Lorainne.
“Kawaii, my team can get in the building now and get everyone out, thanks to your help!” She says. She looks relieved, but also worried for the firefighters filing into the building. “Let’s get you all some place safe.”
Lorainne takes Jeremy, Samantha, Mathilda, as well as you and your Pokemon to an office building not too far away. As you enter the door, she calls for medical help for those affected by the fire. A man and a woman in scrubs whisk Jeremy, Samantha, and little Mathilda away into another room, letting them know they would take good care of them. Lorainne hands you a wet rag and a cup of water, and you notice that your clothes and skin are covered with soot. She lets you know she’ll be right back before disappearing into a room down the hall.
“Are you feeling ok?” Her voice comes from the hallway and you see her walking towards you with something in her hand. She holds the object out, revealing it to be a blue gem shaped like a water droplet attached to a chain. “It’s not much but…I can’t thank you enough, really. We’re such a small team, there was no way we could handle a fire like that on our own.” She gives you a gentle smile as she places the Mystic Water into the palm of your hand. Additionally, she reaches into her pocket and holds out $500 poke. She looks a bit embarrassed at the low amount, but you know this company was struggling.
“Cklett?” The winged Pokemon quacks. It is still at your side, and has followed you loyally this whole time as if you were a mother Swanna. It looks at Lorainne, and back to you in worry. Lorainne laughs a bit as she begins to understand. She bends down to get to the Water-Pokemon’s level.
“You’re wondering if its ok to stay with her, huh?” She ruffles the feathers on Ducklett’s head. “Well, if it’s okay with Kawaii, I think that’s a great idea. You two seem to have a great connection!” Ducklett jumped in the air and landed on your shoulder, cuddling up to you affectionately.
You received a Lv. 16 Female Ducklett!
You received a Mystic Water!
You received $500 poke!
(OoC:Ok for some reason I missed this)
Kawaii didn't feel she needed all the praise and attention she was getting, she came here to help and that was enough for her. When the Ducklette leapt into her arms she smiled. She looked up and smiled sadly seeing what Becky was doing. She seemed to be getting on so well with the villagers. Frieghya was saying goodbye to her friend. As she ran to her trainer she stopped and looked at the Shelder and nodded. The Espeon reached her trainer Becky wants to stay here, she says that these people need a water type.
The pink haired trainer sighed "Alright, I'll miss you a lot. Stay safe around here alright?"
The Shelder nodded and bobbed back into the crowd. Her owner watched her play with a sad smile. The clam like pokemon looked back for a moment before joining the rest of the villagers.
With that sad goodbye finished Kawaii stood up and faced the duck pokemon "So what she we name you?" after a moment of watching the duck pokemon hop around she smiled "How about Piko?" The Ducklette looked up and quacked in agreement. The trainer smiled and picked up her new pokemon so they could walk home
(OoC: picking up my prizes thanks)
Iron Maiden reveals a literally bright side to her, creatively employing a contained Mirror Shot to enhance the effects of Blinky’s natural light, thereby compensating the loss of Sigurd’s Will-o-Wisp embers. You order your team to stand at attention, pre-emptively issuing instructions in case something was lurking in the shadows around the corner. And with that, you decide to muscle onwards toward the light source, if anything to solve the mystery. Hopefully curiosity only kills cats.
You take a turn towards the side tunnel, and an admittedly beautiful violet light bathes you as well as the surrounding area – so much so that visibility here is completely restored even without the need for Blinky and Iron Maiden’s help. You see a large, spacious cave, without a trace of life except for you and your party. However, there is a sleeping bag in miserable state resting on the floor to your right, several small pieces of coal scattered about – no doubt pried off the mine walls – and several old, half-torn pieces of paper all over the sleeping bag. There’s also a small leather pouch resting atop one of the papers, but there seems to be nobody around to claim ownership of it. Could these belong to?...
Blinky suddenly falls over, light-headed and looking very sickly – so much so that it’s as if its very skin is starting to change colour, impossible as though that may be. But your Chinchou isn’t the only one feeling the heightened effects of radiation in this room; you too are starting to feel dizzy, and your stomach feels like it’s about to jump out of your mouth.
Radiation Poisoning Lv 2: You can only order up to two total attacks between all your active Pokémon. The accuracy of your non-Steel-Type Pokémon is reduced by 25%. Your non-Steel and non-Poison-Type Pokémon are now Poisoned. Cannot be cured by items
Honedge seems largely oblivious to the makeshift sleeping quarters you just found, or any of its contents. Its single eye is instead turned to the source of the violet light, coming from the far wall of the cave: a huge pile of rocks rests there, as if part of the cave collapsed, and between the boulders and rubble is a bright object casting the gorgeously-deadly glow.
What will you do?
Things were getting worse but at least they were getting closer to the answers they were after. The radiating object was thankfully providing enough light for them to see inside the small cave. Blinky was really starting to look odd, his blue flesh was starting to change colour, it appeared to be turning orange! That was enough for him to realise the Chinchou was at too great a risk, he had to recall it into its Pokeball. He fumbled at his belt for the Chinchou's ball, but as he held it out to recall the Water type he was overcome by a dizzy spell. Jayson feels the ball fall from his hands but loses sight of it as his vision becomes blurry. He overcomes the symptoms after a few moments but Blinky's Pokeball is nowhere in sight. "Shit", Jayson mumbled, that was all he needed. "Honedge, go retrieve whatever that glowing thing is, you seem pretty invested in it." Blinky go with Iron Maiden and try and find your Pokeball, we need to get you out of the radiation before you get any worse."
While his Pokemon did their best to follow his orders, Jayson turned his attention to the remaining possessions of the man he had 'put to the sword'. He did his best to check the papers for any important information, but in his current state it was getting hard to do anything. He was curious about the pouch as well and tipped the contents out into his hand, what could the man have been hoarding?
Blaze’s transformation couldn’t have come at a better time: visibly larger than before, and brimming with awakened power, the Combusken flexes his muscles to a poin where it becomes almost impossible for Houndour to keep a tight grip on his leg. A shower of glistening stars falls upon the enemy, forcing him to relinquish the hold altogether, and in an impressive show of athleticism, Blaze swipes Houndour’s legs out from under him, causing the dog to fall over hard. It does not get back up…
*Blaze has learned EM Crush Claw!*
*Blaze has learned EM Endure!*
Axel, meanwhile, has shifted his attention to the desk’s drawers, using his mental powers to open them – why use muscles at all? – and peering inside with curiosity. What he finds he casually carries across the air and places in front of you with basic telekinesis, but he doesn’t seem particularly selective about what he pulls out, regardless of apparent interest: one by one, items are piled up at your feet, starting with an empty ammo clip, then a rusty screw, a long-stopped wristwatch, a pen… and what seems to be a carefully-opened letter.
*Axel has gained 1 Level!*
The only standing guard falters, on the brink of passing out due to pain, but endures and recalls his fainted Houndour. He picks a second PokeBall from his belt, wincing all the while, and prepares to toss it… until his eyes glaze over and he stops breathing. A bloodied metal blade pierces through the fabric of his uniform, and you realize Hermes has done his job, but he did so with unsettling calmness judging by the snail-paced motion of the edge. He had materialized behind the Shell, then leisurely stabbed him across the back, ever-so-slowly penetrating skin, muscle, lung and heart, before re-emerging through the front of his torso…
*Hermes has gained 1 Level!*
It is then that, with a loud thud, the room’s door is forcibly opened from the outside. Immediately, and with great amount of personal interest, Hermes carries out his assigned task: incomparably faster than before, he removes the blade from the dead guard’s chest and spins 180 degrees, driving the edge horizontally into the abdomen of the invader and almost slicing him in half.
“W-why… M-Molly… I h-helped you… I l-l-lov….”
Blood trickling down his mouth, the red-haired man you met before stares at you with an unsettling, sickly gaze. Anderson’s breathing is shallow, and as his strength fails him, he drops the bloodied knife he was carrying in his right hand and a small piece of paper from his left. Finally, he draws his last breath and passes away with his eyes still open, looking straight at you – in a way, maybe the most pleasant death he could have asked for in his mind.
Blaze picks up the note dropped by Anderson and hands it over to you. There are only three lines of text in shoddy handwriting, the same poor penmanship as the one on the paper strapped to that Rattata from before.
“Cathedral is straight ahead through the main hall. There’s also a passage from the Marquis’s room behind the bookshelf. What you want is behind the pipe organ.”
It dawns on you that Anderson had been the one to point you to the quartermaster’s office. He saw through you in your first encounter outside the Sanctum, but didn’t turn you in then even though he was in Rigel’s presence. In fact, he has been helping you, and no doubt was looking to do the same now, knowing you were trapped in here with two guards.
Things turned into a giant mess, but you can’t say you turned up empty-handed. You know where you need to go, but you remember you are still being blackmailed by the quartermaster, who expects you to return with the code to Cathedral’s secret room. You can look around here some more if there are still any loose ends, but you probably shouldn’t linger…
What now?
TheKnightsFury:
Blinky hears you out fine, but actually following your instructions proves troublesome even with Iron Maiden’s help. The Ball is nowhere in sight, and even though the Ferroseed devotedly scours the circular cave, the Chinchou can’t keep up and tumbles to the side, overwhelmed by nausea. It starts emitting a very strange light, quite different from that of an evolving Pokemon…
You don’t immediately notice the events, however, as you shift your focus to the dead man’s belongings. Starting with the papers, you scavenge though the notes with shaky hands and blurry vision, finding them to belong to what must have once been a diary. Some of the scattered writings are perfectly legible, while others have devolved into a bunch of seemingly nonsensical notes and calculations. The man’s mind was in shambles, alright…
”They gave the evac order but fuck them, what do they know? A true miner keeps searching for the big one, the break of a lifetime, and I can feel it nearby!”
“I found it. It’s beautiful… as if Arceus Himself shaped the rock into this heavenly crystal! I must have it…”
“It won’t budge. I can’t get it unstuck. I’m too weak to hold a pickaxe, and my hands are all bloody, but I have to pry it off the wall
“The glow calls to me I want it I need to have it I must”
“Nobody else can have her I’ll make a wall myself I’ll live with her in here forever”
“Ran out of food but I can’t eat anyway I want to vomit but there’s nothing to throw up”
“She’s making me sick but I love her but she is killing me”
“I finally pulled her out and she burned my hands the wall caved in there’s evil behind”
“I put her back with many rocks she is the gatekeeper she can’t leave she will protect me I will protect her”
“5x4 4-3+9 6+4+5 9-3-4 11+6-4+5 14x4/3”
You can’t make any sense of this amalgam of annotations, but it’s clear the mutated man you saw earlier was once a mentally sound miner. Is this the result of prolonged exposure to the light source? Struggling not to fumble the simple task, you then pick up the leather pouch and clumsily turn it over. A single item drops from within – a palm-sized red stone, sculpted to have 20 sides and a small number carved into each face. It’s the same one from the man’s vision…
Meanwhile, Honedge follows his instinct and hovers over to the source of light. It’s a crystal deeply embedded into several tons of rock, violet in colour and emitting a powerful glow. Using its metal body, Honedge buries himself into the stone, attempting to force out the crystal… but as he does, he is suddenly pushed back by an explosion of black energy! Shadows given mass begin seeping out from the cracks on the wall, like a black liquid, and coalesce to form a gigantic mass of darkness. The form it takes is vaguely reminiscent of a Kanto-region Muk, but this one is several times larger than usual and glows in several colours of irradiated goo, a form that should only be found in an archipelago very far away from Bedlam Ridge…
The crystal remains stuck between the boulders, but seems to have come loose a little after Honedge’s attempt. However, it continues to exert its effects, which the living mass of shadows seems completely oblivious to… The radiation is so strong now, that even your metallic companions seem affected at a molecular level...
Radiation Poisoning Lv 3: In addition to previous effects, non-Poison-Type Pokemon’s Attack goes down 1 stage.
What will you do now?!
