ROUND 9

For Keith, a lot of the last round seems to have led up to this moment - the infamous combination of inducing Poison then blasting away with Venoshock is widely regarded as both practical and devastating. Trainers whose Pokemon have been Poisoned should therefore be on their toes at all times...

Goyle grins at Keith's command: simple, straightforward and deadly. At the same time, Jake hopes to have a counter for the incoming onslaught. Taking advantage of his superior agility, Sparky again aims and lets loose a Thunder Wave pulse coursing through the ground, the move finding its mark this time and causing Goyle's body to briefly lock up. Annoyed by the nagging numbness once more, Goyle retaliates with the first Venoshock pulse, which explodes violently upon finding its mark, reacting to the poison in Sparky's system. Hanging on as best he can, the Galvantula proceeds to let out a very loud Screech that Goyle, lacking hands, has no means to buffer; the high pitched noise leaves the Victreebel defenseless, allowing Sparky to jolt forward and sink his sharp teeth into the flytrap!
The Bug Bite leaves a nasty mark and Goyle growls due to the sharp pain, but refuses to let up; taking advantage of Sparky's proximity he blasts the tarantula a second time with a vicious Venoshock, sending the Electric-Type reeling!

Sparky struggles to remain conscious after the two massive blows, while Goyle breathes heavily from the energy required to pull them off. Taking aim for one final shot, the last Venoshock to put the severely-injured enemy away! The Grass-Type charges up, arches his body back... but fails to move at the last second, his body freezing under the timely paralysis!

Sparky grins, happy to have survived Goyle's barrage of violence with some great tactical thinking on Jake's part. However, just as he prepares to mount an offense of his own, the Galvantula bends over in pain, his eyes glaze over and the Electric-Type collapses... completely unconscious! Despite having avoided the last deadly Venoshock, the Poison already in his system was too much to bear, and it was the status effect that doomed Sparky despite his best efforts to stand up to Goyle's tactics.
Jake is now down to his final Pokemon, while Keith's Victreebel remains standing but in pretty bad shape!

Though Sparky had put up a good fight, Sparky couldn't survive the Venoshock assault and poison. Letting out a brief cry, Sparky collapsed to the ground.
''Sparky!'' Jake called to the Galvantula. Jake was sure Sparky was going to win, and to see that, even with his careful planning, Sparky and him still lost was a bit disappointing.
''You did great out there Sparky! You deserve a nice rest.'' Jake said before retrieving the Galvantula to it's pokeball. Jake was down to his final Pokemon, and Keith still had two. In order to win, Crix would have to take out both the fly catcher Pokemon and Keiths final Pokemon. Jake needed to make a comeback.
''How are you going to overcome this Master?'' Telpo asked
''You'll see'' Jake said before grabbing another Pokeball.
Now it was Crix's turn. Though he had spent the least amount of time on the team, out of the three Pokemon picked in this battle, Crix had already proven to be a strong and capable Pokemon.
''Alright Crix, you're up now!'' Jake called before tossing the pokeball into the air.
From the ball came an Electivire, who quickly sized up his opponent.
''Alright Crix, I'm counting on you now! Make Sparky and Pom proud!'' Jake called up to the thunder bolt Pokemon, who was a good 7 inches taller then his trainer.

The Electivire, gave a simple nod, before preparing for battle.
''Alright Crix, use Fire Punch! If your opponent survives the attack follow it up with an Ice Punch!'' Jake ordered. It was all up to Crix now. Did the Electivire have enough strength to take out two Pokemon? Only time would tell!

"Yes!" Keith exclaimed as Goyle's Venoshocks landed. The third one, however, was decidedly not the charm, for the Victreebel's body chose that exact moment to seize up, the paralysis getting the better of it yet again. Keith's grin faded slightly, but came back in full force once the poisoning in Sparky's system finished the job- the Galvantula fainted. "Way to go, Goyle!" he cheered, his Victreebel giving a sharp, cheerful shriek in response.

"Wonder wat Jake's last Pokémon is," Meowth wondered out loud.

"Well, we're about to find out," Keith stated, eyeing the Thunder Ball in Jake's hand. "He specializes in Electric-types, remember, and between that and the Thunder Ball he's got there, I'd say it's a safe bet his last Pokémon is an Electric-type."

Indeed, had Keith made such a bet, he'd have won it, for as Jake threw the Thunder Ball, a large yellow and black creature materialized. Keith's eyebrows rose as he eyed the unfamiliar creature.

"Whoa," Meowth remarked as Keith dug out his Pokédex. "When did Jake get an Electivire?"

"Electivire, the Thunderbolt Pokémon, and the evolved form of Electabuzz," said Keith's Pokédex. "Electivire attacks by pressing the tips of its two tails against its opponent, then unleashing a minimum of 20,000 volts through the tails. When attacking, an Electivire will close in on its opponent, heedless of any enemy attacks, and then strike."

"Geez," Keith murmured, half-impressed, half-concerned. "No wonder he saved that for last- Electivire sounds like some pretty tough stuff!"

"And Goyle ain't lookin' so hot, either," Meowth pointed out, indicating the paralyzed, defenseless Victreebel.

"Yeah," Keith nodded. "But since when have you ever known me to go down without a fight?" he added with a grin. "Goyle, let's do this!" he called out to his Victreebel. He realized, given the orders Jake was giving, that Goyle was only gonna be good for one last attack, if that much- the type matchups alone were a lot to consider, to say nothing of how weakened Goyle was as a result of the Screech. That said, though, even if they were only gonna get off one more move, Keith figured that was all the more reason to go all-out with that last move. "Hyper Beam, let's go!" Keith shouted.

ROUND 10

Goyle is severely injured but still raring to go, despite the nagging paralysis and all the punishment he suffered at the hand of Sparky. On the other side of the field, a fresh and quite frankly imposing figure materializes, one that causes Levin to smile fondly.

- Crix... looking good old friend.

The Electivire was one of Levin's very first partners and one of his most trusted allies - level-headed and incredibly powerful. They'd parted ways when Levin chose to focus on improving his Fighting-Type proficiency; had it been now, he'd never have agreed with letting the Electric-Type go.

I have to live with my choices. For Crix, it was for the best - Jake is the number one expert in Electric-Type Pokemon, and that's where Crix belongs...

Keith's Victreebel receives the orders from his Trainer with a knowing grin; fainting before this mighty foe is an inevitability in his current state, so might as well go out with a bang. However, such a destructive move as Hyper Beam takes time to prepare, especially in his numbed state, and Electivire has no trouble in going first.
The electric powerhouse charges his fist with flames and dashes forward; the hit comes swift and incredibly powered and drops Goyle on impact with a thud; blazes engulf the flytrap as it squirms in pain, and Jake wonders if that was enough to put Goyle away...

It is not. In an unbelievable display of resiliency, Keith's partner gets back up, wobbly but somehow conscious and with a glint in his eye. He opens his mouth, revealing a glimmering sphere of pure energy about to be unleashed, the swan song that can leave Crix weakened enough to be taken down later. The Grass-Type hangs on tight, takes aim and moves to unleash his destructive beam... but no, his body locks up completely!! Unable to bring his head forward to shoot the beam, Goyle is forced to let the collected energy dissipate harmlessly, and Keith realizes that this stroke of bad luck is nothing but good news to Jake.

Quick to pick up on what happened, Crix doesn't stand idly; he leaps forward a second time and delivers a crushing punch filled with ice energy this time, and this last blow proves to be the last Goyle can endure. The flytrap's eyes glaze over and he falls to the ground unconscious, ultimately unable to aid his next partner in weakening the lightning colossus despite Keith's plan.

Keith gritted his teeth- Goyle's body had locked up at the worst possible moment, preventing him from launching his Hyper Beam! Moreover, Crix's punching attacks had done their job- the Victreebel lay unconscious on the arena floor, now leaving each Trainer down to one Pokémon.

"Oh, man, dat paralysis screwed him ova but good," Meowth sighed.

"Yeah," Keith nodded, holding out Goyle's Poké Ball. "Goyle, return!" he added, watching as the ball shot out a red beam which withdrew the Victreebel back into its spherical confines. Once this was done, Keith pressed the button to shrink down the ball and replaced it upon his belt. Then he grabbed one last Poké Ball and pressed the button to enlarge it.

Keith and Meowth exchanged looks. "Go fer it," Meowth said to Keith.

Keith nodded and turned back to look at the Poké Ball in his hand. "It's all up to you, now," he murmured. He took a deep breath, and heaved the ball forwards. "Go! Heatstroke!" shouted Keith.

The ball split open in midair, and what appeared to be a sentient puddle of lava materialized on the battlefield. The Magcargo had an easygoing look in his eyes, in start contrast to his fiery appearance, but as he glanced around, Heatstroke got the idea that they were in a battle, so he looked back at Keith, giving a reassuring smile to convey the fact that he'd give it his best.

And Keith got the message loud and clear. He smiled back at Heatstroke and nodded. "Then let's win this!" he declared. "Heatstroke, Yawn, let's go! Then use your Shell Smash attack, and follow up with an Earth Power!"

You can do it Crix! Try to Teleport behind the Macargo and away from the Yawn! Then wait for it to use Shell Smash before hitting it with a Cross Chop!

ROUND 11

This is it, the final showdown. On one side of the field is Jake's secret weapon, a massive Electivire that Levin was amply familiar with; he'd dealt the finishing blow to Goyle and was looking to keep up his momentum. On the other side was a Magcargo, a species so often overlooked in the world of Fizzy Bubbles, under the ownership of Keith, who was himself more than accustomed to this type of Pokemon due to his early years spent in Lavaridge. One of these two Pokemon would claim victory for their Trainer in this exciting, evenly matched three-on-three bout!

Unlike one would expect from the climatic final battle, Heatstroke doesn't seem eager to get going; instead, he lets out a bored Yawn whose unmistakable sound fills the arena; Crix immediately Teleports behind the snail as he spotted it opening its mouth, but although he avoided the visual aspect of the move, in of itself contagious, he can't help but hearing the sleep-inducing noise Heatstroke produced, despite his shift in position. He might not be about to fall heavily asleep, having partially avoided the move, but the Electric-Type looks groggy and wouldn't mind taking a break if only he could.

Taking advantage of his opponent's temporary drowsiness, Heatstroke focused and caused his thin rock shell to shatter into a million pieces, becoming twice as dangerous, twice as fast, but twice as frail as well. Crix, being the experienced warrior he is, swiftly picks up on the drawback of the opponent's move and, capitalizing on his proximity, drills his crossed forearms into Heatstroke's back for massive damage!

The Magcargo growls in pain and quickly fights back, no longer encumbered by his shell; he nimbly turns around and summons a pillar of earth that emerges directly beneath Crix, hitting him hard with equally frightening results! The pain coursing through the Electivire's body is too much to neglect, so much so that any sleepiness he felt before is now completely gone.

The round ends with both fighters panting heavily, but grinning at each other having found their match. Both know the importance of their clash in the overall outcome and are entirely focused on walking out with the victory!

The battle was reaching its climax, and everyone knew it. Keith was nothing short of thrilled- this sort of excitement was exactly what a Pokémon fight was all about! As it stood at that moment, the combatants were about evenly matched, but Keith knew that only meant the fight could go either way at this point. Especially considering the less desirable effects of Heatstroke's Shell Smash move- even though the shell on a Magcargo was ridiculously brittle to begin with, and therefore by no means a reliable means of defense, breaking it for the Shell Smash move lowered Heatstroke's Defense and Special Defense. Crix's attacks were gonna hit even harder now, and Heatstroke's special attacks, not so much, if the Electivire was allowed to get off that Light Screen. Keith knew he had to act fast, but at the same time, he knew there wasn't really going to be a way to prevent Light Screen from happening. So... he'd wing it. Make up the strategy as he went along. It's not like it was the first time he'd had to do that, nor, he was sure, would it be the last.

"Heatstroke, use Earth Power once more!" Keith commanded. "Follow up with Double Team, then give it a taste of your Strength attack!"

ROUND 12

This might be it: both fighters are the last of their respective teams, and both Keith and Jake are going out all guns blazing at this point, eager to see who walks away with the victory in the end – which is made all the more exciting considering how evenly matched they’ve been up to this point.

Heatstroke, astoundingly, has the speed advantage after his Shell Smash, and quickly summons a second Earth Power to strike Crix from below before he has time to complete his mentally-demanding Light Screen. Pillars of rock and dirt explode from beneath the Electivire, propelling him back, but the Electric-Type lands on his feet and finishes weaving the ethereal veil of magic protection. Then, unrelenting, he goes on the offensive, bringing his arms forward in a cross for a second time!

Keith’s Magcargo, again capitalizing on his extra speed, sees Crix coming a mile away and summons two other copies of itself, mere illusions but lifelike enough to the eyes about any Pokemon short of a Luxray. The Electivire decides to wing it just the same, trusting his perception of the true Magcargo will improve the closer he gets… and he’s absolutely right!

Crix drives his arms into the real Magcargo with frightening force, causing the illusions to dispel and Heatstroke to almost dissolve from the sheer impact! Fortunately for Keith the hit wasn’t particularly critical though… The lava slug reforms itself with a desire for vengeance, despite hurting badly all over, and slams into the close-range Electivire with all its Strength for good measure, further empowered by the previous Shell Smash!

Both Pokemon are hitting very hard, each feeling the effects of the other’s offense. But they can’t help feeling excited, knowing the next round might just decide everything, depending on how their respective Trainers decide to play their hand… Heatstroke is doing a remarkable job of bringing credibility to the Slugma line, often overlooked by Trainers, whereas Crix desperately wants to avenge his loss to Kaisap’s Luxio from all those years ago, back when he was still an Elekid – a battle he narrowly lost after a game-ending Crossfire missed due to an earlier Flash… can he bounce back and put that memory to rest, or will Heatstroke claim supremacy in the final clash?

Keith grinned widely. He couldn't help it- Magcargo were pretty friggin' far from fast, but with that Shell Smash under his belt, Heatstroke was really moving, faster even than the Electivire now! And just as Keith had hoped, the Earth Power attack made contact before the Light Screen could be completed! A super effective blow with absolutely nothing to block it! After that, however, a little bit of misfortune- the Double Team didn't fool Crix at all, the illusions vanishing as soon as the super effective Cross Chop hit its target dead-on. But Heatstroke was too fired up (bad pun fully intended) to just give up! The Magcargo retaliated with a powerful display of Strength, powered up by Shell Smash, dealing devastating damage.

This was it, Keith knew. The battle was in its last moments, this round almost certainly the final one. It almost saddened him that such a consistently awesome battle was about to draw to a close... and yet, as sad as that was, it was overshadowed somewhat by the promise of imminent victory... but this wasn't the time to get complacent! Quite the opposite- it was moments like these in Pokémon fights where history was made, where epic comebacks could be executed. And Keith had to keep his mind clear, had to prevent such a comeback from happening. He had the advantage, but he had to maintain it if he hoped to win.

This meant considering what Crix had going for him- namely, that Light Screen. It was a powerful tool in the Electivire's favor, and was the only reason Keith wasn't ordering just a single Earth Power to end things. It occurred to him that Heatstroke could use a few more physical moves in his arsenal, but that was something to remember for after the battle. Right now, he had to work with whatever they had... and what better way to start than with the attack Heatstroke used last, which had had such a good effect on the Electivire previously? And even if that didn't do the job, it would certainly bring Crix to the point where another attack could.

"Hey, Jake," Keith called to his friend. "This has been a good battle, I'm almost sad it's about to end... but even so, me and Heatstroke are gonna win this, no matter what!"

"Caaargoooooo!" agreed Heatstroke, sounding just as pumped up as his Trainer.

"All right!" Keith exclaimed. "Heatstroke, use Strength once again, then finish it off with one last Earth Power! And if those don't do the trick somehow, go for broke with Overheat!"

The battle had been anyones game up to this point, but this round was the one that decided it all! Jake knew he had no room for error. One wrong call and Crix would surely fall. The thunderbolt Pokemon had sustained a great deal of damage throughout the match, it was a surprise to still see him standing!
If that wasn't enough, Magcargo was incredibly fast, easily out speeding the Electivire!

Jake began racking his brain for ideas on how he could change the tide of the battle, nothing seemed to come to mind.... He needed Crix to unleash a powerful attack, and quick! Wait....quick attack..that's just what he needed!

"Hey, Jake," Jake heard Keith call from the other side of the arena.
"This has been a good battle, I'm almost sad it's about to end... but even so, me and Heatstroke are gonna win this, no matter what!"

"This isn't over just yet!" Jake exclaimed. "After coming this far, Crix and I have no intention of losing this!"
Not one of much words, Crix nodded in agreement to his trainers statement.
"Crix let's give this all we've got! Give them a taste of your Quick Attack! Then follow up with another Quick Attack!" Jake commanded.

Jake knew that even if he didn't win this, there was no way he was going down without a fight!

ROUND 13

Both fighters gasping for air, they know this will be their final clash. A super-powered Magcargo versus a veiled Electivire, both the last remaining soldiers of an epic three-on-three encounter!

Jake knows that any hit from Heatstroke at this point might be catastrophic in his heightened-offense state, and decides to bank it all on Crix's speed. Indeed, when rushing at maximum speed, few Pokemon can keep up with the electric colossus, and the Electivire does just that - he bolts forward at a speed almost too fast for the human eye to track, and definitely quicker than Heatstroke can react! Crix rams the entirety of his body weight into the Magcargo from an unexpected angle after a last-minute sharp turn, and Heatstroke yells in pain!

But the earlier Shell Smash does more than simply make him stronger, and there's no way Crix an tap into a second Quick Attack fast enough before Heatstroke gets a say in. Just as the Electivire relaxes his leg muscles for a second time, preparing to bolt forward again with the same move, Keith's partner drives his head into the Electric-Type's gut and forcefully lifts him off the ground like a heavy boulder, and tosses him overhead! The Light Screen can't block the melee attack, and once Crix tumbles hard on his back, directly behind Heatstroke, it finally proves too much for him to withstand and he can't fight his way back up, succumbing to the accumulated injuries!

"Crix is unable to battle! With one Pokemon remaining, the winner of this three-on-three battle is Keith Masters from Lavaridge Town!"

This was really evenly matched! So sorry it took so longer, 3-on-3 is a whole different beast. Well done on making the Slugma line shine MM! And well done too ES, you responded to every round with some great choices - just a piece of advice, don't be afraid to use all three moves! You had plenty of energy left with Crix, and really, loss by energy usage is very rare with my calculations, so in future battles don't feel pressured into only ordering 2 moves per round! Congrats to both of you

"Heatstroke! Strength attack!" Keith exclaimed.

"Caaaargoooooooo!" bellowed the Magcargo. Crix's Quick Attack hit hard and fast, but the Fire/Rock-type, despite decreased defenses, wasn't about to go down from that! the Electivire found himself hoisted up above the Magcargo's head! With a loud cry, Heatstroke threw Crix down to the ground, and the Electivire... did not get back up!

"YES!" Keith cheered as the referee made the call. "Heatstroke, you rock!" he exclaimed. "Bad pun fully intended!"

"Cargoooo," smiled Heatstroke. He, too, was pleased with this outcome.

Keith had walked over and shaken Jake's hand. "A great battle, Jake," Keith smiled. "Thank you."

"Dat was pretty close near the end," Meowth remarked as Keith walked back over to his Magcargo.

"Yeah, it was," Keith nodded. As he spoke, he sent back out his exhausted Victreebel and Feraligatr. "Well done, all of you, "he said with a proud smile. "Couldn't have won this without you three being so awesome."

"GATOOOOOR!" Gold replied, hugging his Trainer. Goyle added in his usual shriek, and chomped down on Keith's head. Heatstroke couldn't really do something similar, of course, not without burning his Trainer, but he smiled up at Keith, happy to have a Trainer like Keith.

Thanks for the awesome battle, ES, and for reffing it, MZ. I don't even mind that it took a while to get done because I had so much fun with it. It was awesome to finally get to use Gold, Goyle, and Heatstroke in some serious battles.

*Heatstroke grew to level 43!*
