Had a discussion with some fellows about the lexicon. Made me uncomfortable with my ailing mem's.

What words did we use before "trolling" and "spam" became acceptable speech?

For troll, and depending on context, I could see "instigator"/"instigatory" and "antagonist"/"antagonizing". Also, even if they aren't specific to the act of trolling, any of "jerk", "ass", "idiot", etc., e.g. "Don't be a jerk, Dave " or "Quit being such an ass, Marv. "

For spam, I dunno that there was a commonly-used term for it because the closest thing your average American home of the 20th century pre-1990 was going to get was either:
  • junk mail (in the physical mailbox)
  • constant telemarketing phone calls to the house
But neither of these were quite so out of control as junk e-mail was. No idea why we didn't simply call it "junk e-mail", but I guess "spam" caught on and from there the term spread from merely denoting junk e-mail to denoting any flooding, be it a web forum or a chat room or a comments section in a news article, whatever.

The spam I'm referring to is more akin to swarming/flooding with stuff. For trolling, perhaps "pest"?

I actually edited in the flooding, the only word that came to mind was swarm. Now I know where that thought came from!

So am I alone in thinking that Snapchat is even worse than an objective waste of everyone's time, seeing as how the only person who gets to keep your photos is SNapchat itself in a secret vault?

For some reason I watched the music video of Britney Spears' Oops!...I Did It Again. I must have been 9 or 10 when it came out, and holy crack is it surreal to watch. I've never seen it before although the last time I heard the song proper was maybe 2001.

The first bit is the dancing is so reminiscent of the anime endings like in PreCUre I watch now, I know it's based off Michael Jackson's innovations for choreography but the styles now seem so very different, and Japan sometimes lags behind on some trends since media in America have to be dubbed over there (same phenomenon with anime ports here). I'm not surprised to think that some styles have persevered over there.

And Spears. Wow, she looks plastic (make-up), but wow she also looks young and lithe. Another way of putting it...she looks new, almost like the current Spears' daughter.

Eerie.

Okay, so I got into a conversation about Megaman recently, and the second it was brought up, this commercial instantly came to my mind. Actually it has been like this ever since I first saw that commercial. Anytime Megaman is mentioned, I always remember that retarded kid who goes "I luv meguhmayun!" That's right, I associate Megaman with a retarded kid!

The guy's expression in-game was amazing. Stunned to his toes, he spent like 2 minutes just looking at the field before talking again.

For context...Maxx "C" lets you draw cards equal to the number of Special Summons the opponent made. Heavy Slump, which can only be activated when your opponent has 8 or more cards, has them shuffle their hand into their deck, then draw 2. Consider he had a full hand of 6 when he dropped the Maxx "C". The game was over from that play alone!

Your explanation was appreciated. It would've been impossible for me to know that that was the focus of this story given the screencap. I can't see Maxx "C" in his discard pile nor can I see Heavy Slump in yours, and neither of you mentions Heavy Slump by name either, so going off of the text alone, the first time I read it I thought you were telling him you'd adopted an "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" attitude towards Main "C" and were running it yourself.

Was he running a frog deck, true to his name? ;o

Yes he was. Frogs commonly main hand traps like Maxx "C" so I was thrilled when he dropped it. I was getting beaten by it all day yesterday, and wanted revenge.

It's a really situational card but it took my free trap spot so it's not a huge loss, and it's potentially an auto-win if I meet the conditions to activate it. And, expressions like that are priceless.

Despite only being reported today, supposedly that happened last July and he's already recovered quite a bit.
