The stage was set. The Trainers had all gathered, their Pokémon standing before them, all ready and willing to fight at their hardest to take down the gargantuan Phantump that hovered before them. But before any orders could be given, Keith cried out wordlessly in surprise- he felt a sensation in his right wrist that immediately caught his attention and made him turn and look- sure enough, Dynamax Energy was swirling around his Dynamax Band.

"Whoa," Meowth breathed. "Youse could Dynamax Sunfire right now!"

"Wow," Keith murmured, considering the possibility. A Max Flare so soon could really turn things to their advantage, a point brought home all the more by the Fire attack an ally's Galarian Darmanitan let loose, albeit right at Sunfire- Keith, of course, was not bothered by this, knowing full well that Sunfire's Ability, Flash Fire, enabled her to take in the flames to strengthen her own. Indeed, her fiery mane flared up all the more from the plume of Mystical Fire.

But Keith ultimately shook his head, letting his arm fall back down to his side. "Not just yet," he said. "The time's not right. It'll be better for someone to Dynamax when Phantump starts trying to shield itself."

"Yeah, I guess," Meowth relented. "Though a Max Flare boosted by Flash Fire might get us ta dat point all da soona," he added fairly.

"Even still, probably best to keep things simple and straightforward for now," Keith insisted. "Sunfire, what say you?"

Sunfire considered this. She'd heard of Dynamax, true enough, but this was her first time seeing it in action, and that Phantump was freaking huge! The thought of getting that massive, even if only temporarily... the Normal Form Ponyta couldn't deny, she had her misgivings about the whole deal, and if Keith was already of the opinion that now was too soon, she saw that as all the more reason to not go for it. Neighing a vote of nay, Sunfire shook her head.

Keith nodded. "Seems we agree, then," he stated.

"Eh, I ain't gonna force it," Meowth relented. He, personally, wasn't so sure Keith was right about this one- the sunlight from Max Flare would surely help out some of their allies, and together they could probably push Phantump to the point of putting up a shield very quickly, enabling Keith and Sunfire to take an active role in helping to tear them down, while still Dynamaxed. But if he was the only one to see it that way, far be it from him to rock the boat.

"All right, let's get this party started!" Keith declared, adjusting the brim of his Mega Hat. "Sunfire, Flamethrower, let's go!" he commanded. Sunfire reared up and neighed loudly, letting loose a scorching stream of fire from her mouth. It was no Max Flare, but with the power boost from that Darmanitan activating her Flash Fire, this was gonna hit hard all the same! A strong start any which way you slice it, and Keith couldn't say no to that.

OOC: Sunfire used Flamethrower (90 BP; boosted by Flash Fire)

Raid Boss Phantump
★★★

Health Gauge: 81%
Shields Up: 0
Status: Atk +2, SpAtk +2
Raiders: Sandstorm (4)

Raid Boss Attack Summary

Attack 1: Sunny Day (0 BP)

Attack 2: Growth (0 BP)

Attack 3: Max Rockfall (130 BP)
Slash, Beedrill: 88 HP

Raid Challengers

Raves, Galarian Darmanitan: 375 HP
Sixdragons, Axew: 375 HP [Shadow Lance] [Focused]
MM, Ponyta: 375 HP [Flash Fire]
Leo, Sableye: 375 HP [Expert Belt]
Slash, Beedrill: 63 HP [Shadow Lance] [Focused]
Zorchic, Pawniard: 400 HP [Superhero Cape]
grassyglide, Tailow: 375 HP [Scrappy, Silk Scarf] [Focused]
CCK, Torracat: 375 HP

The battle moves at an initially slow pace, a number of Pokemon taking their time to boost either themselves or those helping to combat the threat before them. As attacks finally begin to be launched in the direction of Phantump, the previously somewhat jovial atmosphere is dispersed entirely, her fury starting to stoke in earnest. The Raiders brace themselves for retaliation - but it comes slowly, Phantump taking a moment to intensify the suns rays before basking in the sudden spike in temperature. Finally retribution comes, a huge slab of earth forming in front of Beedrill before collapsing violently, kicking scathing particles of sand into the air, the Max Rockfall clearly leaving an early mark.

Dynamax initiative: CCK, Torracat

  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.

  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but up $500 may be collected for role played responses of equivalent words, per standard rules, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Saturday, 13th November to place your order.

Keith looked on longingly at his Dynamax Band as the Dynamax Energy leaked pitifully out of it. Much as he'd told Meowth that strategically speaking the right move was to hold off... he'd really, really wanted to Dynamax Sunfire. Max Flare would have allowed them to change the weather, bring in some bright sunlight, and he knew for a fact Sunfire was not the only one who would appreciate such a turn of events, either. Hell, her own subsequent Max Flares would have hit super hard with the bright sunlight and the power boost from Flash Fire!

Alas, the time for such things was gone as quickly as it came- that ship has sailed, hit an iceberg, sank, and had a movie made about it. And now was the time to focus on the fight, especially as Phantump began to attack. And the first thing it did, Keith was about ready to take as a personal insult, a swift kick in the Sludge Bombs, for it was a mockery of the strategy he had been so tempted to go with- Phantump used Sunny Day. Moreover, it made damn good use of that intensified sunlight itself, not through an attacking move, but rather through another technique, one which it used to grow even larger. Keith knew this move well- he'd seen it in action from his daughter's Trevenant back when he was just a Phantump belonging to his wife. "Oh, damn, it's using Growth!" he murmured.

"Well, dat don't sound too bad," Meowth shrugged. "A little boost ta Attack and Special Attack, sure, dat ain't da best ting, but-"

"-but this isn't just a little boost," Keith interrupted, eyeing Phantump warily. "It is normally, yeah, but when the sunlight is this intense, then it's basically Swords Dance and Nasty Plot at the same time."

"...uh-oh," Meowth murmured.

"Yeah. Uh-oh," Keith nodded. "Don't sweat it, Sunfire," Keith called out to his Ponyta, for she had whinnied uncertainly at the Phantump's use of Growth, to say nothing of her Trainer's decidedly alarming statements. "The sunlight's still going strong, so we'll still be able to work with it! Use-"

"I wouldn't be so sure about dat," Meowth interrupted, pointing with a paw. Keith followed Meowth's gaze, just in time to see what the Scratch Cat Pokémon was talking about- Phantump wasn't finished attacking just yet. Indeed, the Stump Pokémon had caused a massive monolith to rise up out of the ground before it- unmistakably, Keith knew, the makings of a Max Rockfall. The supersized slab was then tipped over, and it fell on the poor, unfortunate Beedrill, who was still left conscious, albeit somewhat battered by the super effective move.

But their concerns weren't over just yet- Meowth had been right to be concerned, for every Max Move came with a potent side effect. And in the case of Max Rockfall, this was summoning a sandstorm. Which blocked out the intense sunlight. Keith groaned audibly- that Phantump knew exactly what it was doing! It had made sure that it and only it would be able to benefit from the intense sunlight before creating a weather condition that none of them were going to be happy about. Well, OK, with the possible exception of Jake's Pawniard, but the point still stands!

"...The plan remains the same, Sunfire," Keith stated, after having taken a moment to collect himself. "Sun or not, Phantump still isn't gonna like this! Use Flamethrower!" he commanded. And Sunfire neighed loudly in response, preparing a potent Flamethrower.

OOC: Sunfire used Flamethrower (90 BP; boosted by Flash Fire).

Raid Boss Phantump
★★★

Health Gauge: 71%
Shields Up: 4
Status: Atk +2, SpAtk +2, Confused
Raiders: Sandstorm (3)

Raid Boss Attack Summary

Attack 1: Rock Slide (75 BP)
Sixdragons, Axew: 255 HP
MM, Ponyta: 195 HP
grassyglide, Taillow: 195 HP
CCK, Torracat: 195 HP

Attack 2: Max Phantasm (120 BP)
Raves, Darmanitan Galar: 87 HP

Attack 3: Shadow Claw (70 BP)
grassyglide, Taillow: 195 HP

Raid Challengers

Raves, Galarian Darmanitan: 62 HP (Def -1)
Sixdragons, Axew: 230 HP [Shadow Lance] [Focused]
MM, Ponyta: 170 HP [Flash Fire]
Leo, Sableye: 350 HP [Expert Belt] (Def -1)
Slash, Beedrill: 39 HP [Shadow Lance] [Focused]
Zorchic, Pawniard: 400 HP [Superhero Cape]
grassyglide, Tailow: 170 HP [Scrappy, Silk Scarf] [Focused] (Def -1)
CCK, Torracat: 170 HP (Def -1)

Sableye flashes an intensely ominous light into the face of Phantump, the tree stump suddenly overcome by a head swimming confusion. Left vulnerable, Phantump can do nothing as Darmanitan appropriates their buffs - but then a little bit of fortune comes their way, albeit it in awkward manner. Taillow charges in to deliver a critical hit with Aerial Ace, and as Axew follows up with much the same... the automatic shields kick in, protecting Phantump from further abuse. Mercifully the Ghost is not further downtrodden as they manage to land both a Rock Slide and a Max Phantasm - though the following Shadow Claw lands ineffectually against Taillow.

Dynamax initiative: Sixdragons, Axew

  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but up $500 may be collected for role played responses of equivalent words, per standard rules, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.

Keith watched the Phantump intently. The Sableye had managed to land a Confuse Ray, and with Phantump's Attack being so pumped up, this could very easily allow them to turn that Growth against it! Alas, Phantump did not succumb to the confusion so much as once. The Rock Slide landed, striking various Pokémon around the battlefield- most unnervingly, three of the four struck Pokémon were even weak to the move. Keith supposed that didn't exactly bode well for them moving forward, especially as his own Ponyta was one of the Pokémon to take the hit. "Sunfire!" he called. "Are you OK?" The Ponyta neighed in response, shaken but still good to go, and Keith sighed in relief. "Alright, cool, good," he murmured.

Phantump, however, was not done. The Stump Pokémon next went for the powerful Max Phantasm, a potent Ghost-type Max Move that targeted the Galarian Darmanitan for major damage, even causing a change in form that prompted a double take from both Keith and Meowth. They knew of Zen Mode, and they knew of Galarian Darmanitan, but never had it occurred to them that the two would go together. And yet, that was undeniably what this was, for one of their allies was now a fiery snowman of all things. This seemed like a double-edged sword to Keith- on the one hand, this meant all the more power behind the Darmanitan's Fire moves, but on the other hand, this surely meant it was now an Ice and Fire-type. Against an opponent that knew Rock Slide. That... that felt like a recipe for disaster right there.

Fortunately, Phantump's attempt at wrapping up the round did not go as it had so clearly hoped. It didn't hurt itself in its confusion, but clearly it hadn't acted in a way that a Pokémon in sound mind would have done, targeting the Normal-type Taillow with a powerful... Shadow Claw? Can Phantump even learn that attack? Keith could have sworn Maribel's Trevenant only ever learned that move upon evolution... then again, who was he to say? He was the one with the Qwilfish that knew punching attacks. Either way, this meant Phantump's final attack of the round had done absolutely nothing, and they were free to start attacking once more!

"Phew!" Keith exhaled. "We're still in this!"

"Yeah, looks like it, but fer how long?" Meowth responded. "Some o' dem ain't lookin' too hot," he pointed out, glancing in particular at the Galarian Zen Mode Darmanitan and the Beedrill.

"True," Keith conceded. "But there's not much we can do at this point but keep attacking. Besides which, look," he added, gesturing to Phantump, who had indeed managed to put up a shield. "Been waiting for that to happen," he remarked.

"Eeesh," Meowth frowned. "So, I'm guessin' we's waitin' fer dat ta come down before attackin'?"

"Naturally," Keith nodded. "Sunfire's Flamethrower packs entirely too much power to just waste it on chipping away at that thing." Sunfire neighed in agreement, watching carefully. The Axew Dynamaxed basically immediately, blasting away part of the shield with a devastating Max Darkness... Pawniard went for Smart Strike... Taillow for Aerial Ace... and that did it! "Flamethrower! Now!" Keith commanded almost immediately.

OOC: Sunfire used Flamethrower (90 BP; boosted by Flash Fire).
