Beginner Trainer Battle: Pearl's Perap v. lilbluecorsola

Today's match will be between Pearl's Perap and lilbluecorsola! The trainers will submerge themselves using submarines, and this will be a completely underwater battle!

Cascadia's Seaweed Fields: Deep in the fields of seaweed and coral lies a dark 100m x 100m trench that seems to persist for impossible depths. Nonetheless, the ditch has become a popular arena for trainers of water types. Two opposing submarines, each with their own speaker system, allow the trainers to command and communicate with their Pokémon. The high pressure and depths of the arena make it unfeasible for any non-water types to battle here. Although each Submarine provides some illumination to the murky depths, anything over the range of 15 meters is near impossible to see. It is not uncommon for marine predators to interfere with a battle, meaning even water types should be cautious.

Coin toss has determined that... lilbluecorsola will order first!

You're both veteran battlers, so I don't think I need to post the progression. =)

Once again finding herself under the sea, Jessica hummed to herself as she expertly shined the spotlights into the darkness, searching for her opponent. This time she would be facing a boy known as Zak, whom she known for a while and recognized as a challenging adversary. She smiled, calling out good luck to him through the submarine's speaker system. Then, shifting her address to Tessie:

"All right, girl. Let's start off with a HARDEN to boost your defense. Then, TICKLE your opponent and inject TOXIC when his guard is down."

Having not participated in a battle for quite a while, Zak was rather excited to be competing against a completely new friend. The battle would also be shaken up a little too, having it staged deep within the seaweed fields, trainers manning the battle from cute little submarines. As Zak clambered into his respective sub, he grabbed Doug's pokéball, releasing the Slowking onto the side of the vehicle.

"Let's start this off by using Dive, get as deep as you can. From this position, try a Psychic attack, if that fails, swim closer and Yawn at the foe." Zak uttered his order quickly, the Slowking promptly nodding, "Already knew, you know I just love to humor you..." And with a usual Doug-like comment, Zak closed the sub and the Slowking began to paddle amongst the seaweed, awaiting the battle's beginning...

A Lapras and Slowking appear among the dark depths of the Seaweed Fields, swimming around each other as their trainers familiarize themselves with their surroundings and the controls of the submarine. A shrill whistle-like sound rends the water, and both Pokemon leap into action, Lapras Hardening her outer shell in order to boost her defense as Doug Dives deeper into the depths of the ocean. Slowking pulses out a wave of Psychic energy at Lapras as she moves in to Tickle the slowish thing, and is held at bay as the wave of energy spreads out from Doug. Tessie gives up her Tickle attack and shoots a wad of Toxic at Doug, but the poison disperses into the water before it reaches the Slowking, leaving a purple stain on the water in front of Doug...

Lapras took a small hit, and is now around 8/9ths in health. Energy use was small, around the same as energy.

Slowking used a good amount of energy, and is around 7/8ths in that area. No damage was taken.

As your foe uses confuse ray, meet her with Confusion. Good luck, mate..." Zak uttered from the inside of the submarine, his companion, Doug, nodding outside and readying himself...

Lapras swims around quickly, using its fins to subtly change the water currents and create a Whirlpool. The ocean begins to spin around Lapras, who smiles at the success of her technique, while Slowking readies himself and Surfs to the outer edge of the Whirlpool, letting himself gain momentum as Lapras releases a Dragon Pulse. The distance between the two battlers significantly lowers the damage Doug takes from the attack, and although he is hit, Slowking continues to Surf the Whirlpool, head beginning to glow. Tessie is struck with the Zen Headbutt hard, although the previous Harden and her shell armor prevented too much damage from being done. Lapras uses the opportunity to fire a close range Confuse Ray at Slowking, who cries out in pain as he completely loses his ability to see for a bit, making his Confusion fly off in the opposite direction of his opponent.

Lapras took a good hit and is now at around 3/4ths in health. Energy is now at 3/4ths as well.

Slowking took minimal damage, around 8/9ths now, and his energy is now at around 5/8ths. He is extremely confused.

"Try and attack, despite your confusion. First, try calming your mind for a nice boost. Follow that up by sending out a blast of psychic energy. Finish it off with our signature Metronome attack, good luck with that!" Zak pressed his nose up against the glass, watching the Lapras and Slowking battling it out amongst the seaweed.

"Swim out of his range while he's trying to relax, and SING to lull him to sleep. Sound travels faster in water, so that should give you an advantage. If he falls asleep, use DREAM EATER. (A peaceful mind should produce some pleasant dreams.) If not, be prepared to DETECT whatever Attack his METRONOME produces."

Slowking begins to Calm his Mind, trying to get rid of the confusion that is afflicting him. Lapras begins to swim away from Slowking and manages to get a far distance away from Doug as he purges the confusion from his mind, special stats boosting. Tessie starts to Sing, the melody affecting Slowking at a considerably quickened rate, cutting off the Psychic attack Doug was beginning to unleash. Doug's eyes close peacefully, and Tessie swoops down to her sleeping opponent, Eating his oh so tasty Dreams. The attack manages to steal a moderate amount of HP and energy from Slowking, who wakes up after a bit, super pissed off. Doug's finger begins to glow, and he yells loudly as his body begins to glow with Flying energy. Tessie Detects Slowking's Sky Attack, and swiftly dodges the attack as Doug flies past her, missing by a fraction of an inch.

Lapras is now at around 7/8ths in health, and energy is now at 5/8ths (she used more energy with Sing and Detect than she gained back with Dream Eater).

Slowking is now at around 3/4ths in health and energy is now at 3/8ths. His Special Attack and Special Defense are boosted.

Lapras giggles and swoops down at Slowking, using her good last round plus her happiness with her trainer to deliver a strong Return hit to Doug. The attack hits Slowking hard, sending him flying back into the water a bit more, before he Teleports right behind Tessie, fist glowing as he prepares to Drain Punch her. Lapras flips around and attempts to Smash Doug's crown like a Rock, right as she is hit by the Doug's Drain Punch. Both Pokemon are hit for good damage, and they stumble backwards before launching simultaneous attacks at each other. Tessie breathes out a blue flame of Dragonbreath that is intercepted by a wave of Psychic energy from Doug. The Psychic energy and Dragonbreath cancel each other out with a large explosion creating a wave of bubbles. As the bubbles clear, it looks like Doug is unconcious due to energy loss.

Slowking is unable to battle! Jess and Lapras are the winners!

Lapras gets a Beginner Trophy

and 2 levels for winning.

Good job both of you!

A note of encouragement for Zak: your strategy was much better this time, however you used too many high energy attacks, which is why Doug ran out of energy.

A note for Jess: your battling strategy has improved a lot, and I'm very proud of you ^-^
