The time had come for the newest little Pokemon friend to be welcomed into the world by Miss Lulu, whose enthusiasm for her life's calling remained unabated despite the constant supervision and care the Hatchery required. The attendant had to admit to herself that it wasn't necessarily challenging work - indeed, she had heard of countries where trainers hatch eggs themselves, incubating them by keeping them in the care of their Pokemon - but as long as the research clearly demonstrated the physiological and psychological benefits of Hatchery care, her tender ministrations would continue to be mandated by the Elite... or so she hoped.
Humming a pleasant melody as she prepares for the shell to show signs of cracking, she finds herself cycling through a few different songs in her humming. As one ended, another would begin... maybe ten... twenty... thirty... this baby was certainly taking their time! Miss Lulu's pleasant hum fades as her mouth twists into a concerned frown. The incubator's sensors had not detected anything out of place, and yet... As Miss Lulu carefully opens up the unit to personally inspect the baby within, the egg, which sat clear as day before her just moments before, vanishes suddenly. A momentarily stunned expression is replaced with shock and worry, as she is snapped out of her confusion by the blaring of the incubator's warning systems, loudly announcing what she already knew - no baby was detected. Escape suspected. Though the system was wired to automatically lock down doors and windows, Miss Lulu knew that if the baby could escape the incubator, doors would be no deterrent... She would have to override the system and go searching on foot. First and foremost, Miss Lulu worried for the baby's safety first and foremost, as always - and yet, somehow she got the sense that she would be in more trouble than the crafty little escape artist if he stayed missing for long. Miss Lulu wrings her hands, her eyes wet with distress. Oh Arceus, is this going to be the day that a baby gets lost, and they replace me with a Mr. Mime? As Miss Lulu frantically searches for the missing little one, she becomes vaguely aware of someone following behind her, and yet, she hears no footsteps... Though she turns around and sees nothing, the Hatchery Attendant knows better than to ignore her instincts. As she peers out the window, she can catch just enough of a reflection to see that there is a psychic type hovering behind her, and though the sleepy expression on the Pokemon's face is difficult to read, Miss Lulu can't help but read traces of amusement. The creature senses that the game is up, and immediately teleports back to the Incubation Room, in an act that acknowledges a momentary break from the Psi Pokemon's fun and games; just enough time to allow Miss Lulu to check his vitals, before he disappears again. Miss Lulu shrugs her shoulders and laughs a bit. This time, it would be up to the little one's trainer to win the game of hide and seek. --- Median Dia has hatched a Lv.1 Male Abra. |

Junior Assistant Dr Newman was beginning to recognize some trainers almost instantaneously. Jayson was one such case, a frequent visitor of the Hatchery and, quite honestly, one of the few that was still actively using his services this far down the calendar year. Regional rules dictated a limit of breeding arrangements, and most other Trainers had long exhausted their slots, well before Newman was called up to handle matters in Dr Grossman's place.
This time around, the arrangement felt right. Hyrem's Gardevoir Sera was one of Fizzytopia's oldest and most powerful creatures still actively adventuring alongside her veteran Trainer. Sigurd, in turn, was Jayson's team leader and strongest combatant. A cross between a powerful Gardevoir and Gallade... Nature working in perfect harmony. No Skitty and Wailord shenanigans here, at last... No amount of studying will ever enlighten me on some of these compatibilities... He smiled. The Egg had already been carefully placed in its pod, Sera and Sigurd were ready to return to their owners. Another perfect delivery, if he said so himself - although Newman's actual role in the process was minimal, all things considered. Thank Arceus for that. Trying his best to look like the next Owner of the Hatchery should, a title he was quite certain was still a few decades away, Newman approached the counter, carefully carrying the Egg Pod in his arms. One day, he would have an underling to carry them for him. At least that's what he kept telling himself. "Nice to see you again, Sir Jayson. Here you go, your bundle of joy!"

As with all things brought to the Incubation Room for a weekly stay, the strange noise emitting from Incubator 1 had started small - nothing more than a tiny, metallic whisper. In fact, were it not for Miss Lulu's head being so close to the monitors to check on vital signs, her ears would have missed it entirely. As the week progressed, however, the sound became more pronounced, and its rhythms more complex. Clicks and clacks, smacks and booms; sharp notes and tiny taps, though all still muffled slightly by the creature's shell. This little one certainly had a lot to say, but Miss Lulu was no denizen of the mountains, and the message - whatever it was - was lost on her, much to her disappointment. Still, the sound indicated a healthy, growing baby according to her manuals, and that was sufficient for her.
By week's end, at the appointed moment of the baby Pokemon's entry into the world, the Incubation Room had erupted in metallic concert. The shell trembled and shook with the force of claw on metal, and Miss Lulu could not help but sense the deep emotional reverberations of the noise, even when deprived of the resounding, echoic environment of the mountains from whence the species hailed. This is what it feels like to be born. It is sound - it is chaos - it is endless potential. It's kicking up dust and raising a riot. It is a song we inscribe on our scales, on our bones. It is - Unable to endure the vibrations any more, the shell shatters - the sound abruptly ceases. Curious red eyes sitting beneath a large yellow heart stare widely through the glass of the Incubator as it carefully lifts, allowing the baby to look out into the world. With a satisfied grin, the little dragon smacks the yellow heart once, twice, thrice. Three sharp notes, signalling his pride, which, like the sound that inspired it, completely filled the room. --- Maskerade has hatched a Lv.1 Male Jangmo-o. |

It had been some time since Keith's last visit to the Hatchery, even moreso since he'd entered without already having an Egg for them to take care of, but right now, it was agreed upon by all concerned that the time was right to change that. A pair of plantlike Pokémon were entering behind him, holding hands as best as a pair could be said to, considering his were leaves and hers were bouquets of roses.
The "he" in question was a Carnivine. Rough around the edges, and a little simple-minded, but a good friend to those who he doesn't try to eat, and as she knew full well, a loving and caring soul. And speaking of which, the "she" in question was a Roserade, every bit as beautiful and graceful as one would expect a Roserade to be, and easily twice as vicious and deadly. She loved to dance- lived to dance, really- and always managed to look elegant even when slaughtering Bug-types for her next meal. Some might think she could do better than Fang, but Aria disagreed. They shared a love for hunting and eating Bug-types. Aria was impressed with Fang's approach to hunting, which was more direct and active than the average Carnivine- as a species, Carnivine usually lied in wait until prey came within range- while Fang was entranced by Aria's elegant and beautiful style. Each believed the other to be perfect for them, and they were both looking forward to the moment ahead. "Been a while, hasn't it?" Keith grinned as he greeted Dr. Grossman. "It's these two this time," he added, gesturing to his Carnivine and Roserade. "And a few things," he added. "First off, they're gonna want to have this on them," he said, producing a Rose Incense from his backpack and placing it on the counter. "And second... you're gonna want to keep an eye on any Bug-types you might have around here," he added seriously. "Because when these two get hungry, they go hunting. But as long as you keep them well-fed, there shouldn't be a problem. They prefer live prey if possible, but they'll take pre-killed Bug-types just as well. They'll also eat Rattata, just make sure none of them know Flame Wheel- Fang had a bad experience one time." As he went on like this, he filled out whatever paperwork needed be done, while Fang grabbed the Rose Incense, and Aria, with a devious little grin on her face, took her man's leaf-hand and led the way into the back. Dropping off my level 21 male Carnivine and my level 20 female Roserade to breed, and they will also have this Rose Incense with them during the... ahem... proceedings. Their stats are as follows (the Carnivine and Roserade's stats, not the Rose Incense's stats. Does a Rose Incense even have stats? Great, now I'm gonna be thinking about what kind of stats a Rose Incense would even have...); Quote:

Junior Assistant Dr Newman was finally ready. Not by anyone else's admission but his own, mind. There was nobody else around to recognize it anyway, and that was exactly the point - it had been months since he had seen or heard from Dr Grossman, his mentor.
He's gone. I've been doing things on my own here, awaiting praise, or really any kind of feedback, but who am I kidding? Enough of this "Junior Assistant" nonsense. He adjusted his glasses, buttoned his lab coat and picked up the Egg Pod triumphantly. "I am Doctor-motherbreeding-Newman! I own this place!" Of course, there was nobody around to hear this proclamation. The title, therefore, was self-professed, but at the same time nobody could tell him otherwise. He would allow himself to have this moment before walking out there to deliver the hatchling. I've earned it, damnit. He had been flawless so far. 100% customer satisfaction. And he had a feeling this newborn wouldn't disappoint either - not that he really understood how any hatchling could disappoint its Trainer. The miracle of life at work before their very eyes... how could anyone care about meaningless things like "the right gender", "the best potential" or even the colour pattern? Junior Assistant... no, Doctor Newman would never understand those people. He took a deep breath, straightened his back and cleared his throat before walking out to meet Mr. Big. Wasn't that the name of some band?... "Good evening. I'm DOCTOR Newman, pleased to meet you," he said, inadvertently stressing his title perhaps a bit too much. "Here is your Egg - it's about to hatch too! Hope you two get along well."

"Yes. Yes, certainly. I am a certified Doctor, after all. 100% customer satisfaction. Of course, Mrs Lulu. Don't worry and enjoy your vacation." Newman adjusted his glasses and grinned as he got off the phone. At long last, a new big break for him! He had been instructed by Dr Grossman in the art of nurturing Pokemon to breed, but now he was entrusted with handling the much more mysterious Enigma Eggs for the first time in his short career. He stared at the four pods, all lined next to each other, and all of them beginning to shake as the life forms within grew in size and strength to break the shell. He took out his notepad and began jotting down his precious annotations. With each Egg he helped hatch his accolades grew, as did his knowledge in the field. Both were invaluable for his ultimate aspiration, which would become apparent one day. For now, he would bide his time and build up his curriculum. And then, they hatched. As if Xerneas itself had breathed upon them all, the four shells cracked and fell apart simultaneously, revealing the critters inside. Four vastly different specimens, one in particular a veritable mystery for the scientific community. Handling breeding procedures was his area of expertise, no doubt, but there was no denying the wonderful appeal of these enigmatic Eggs of unknown origins, and unknown contents. One day, he would also reveal the mysteries of these Eggs, the greatest of all breakthroughs in the field! I could describe them out loud as I delivered them, but... nobody likes a spoiler, right?
