Connor- This strange Pokemon was like a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Up until now, just about everything that could go wrong, had gone wrong. What if something wrong happened during the challenge? What had happened to the last person who tried? Despite some initial reluctance, you agree to help the Pokemon out. Sophie relays the message and triggers a elated response from the mystery mon.

Fallllll Falinks!

"It, Falinks, requests that we follow it, single file." Sophie translates and transfers the message to you and your team. You line up behind Falinks as it turns to head deeper into the temple. Marco seems reluctant to get in line, hanging at the back with a disgruntled look on his face. Were you really going to follow this things lead instead of his?!

You're joined by a lone 'Brass' Falink. It is lvl 2 and knows the move Smart Strike.

You follow the Pokemon through the temple as it marches rhythmically to some unknown destination. It isn't long before you reach it though. The hallway opens up into a large room, a large six pointed star is engraved on the floor, much like the one on the statue's shield. The circular room had five exits, large stone arches stretched over each, a different symbol seemed to be carved into the centre stone of each arch. You inspect the arches from left to right. The first depicts a pair of cross swords, the second a shield. The third showed a glowing eye, while the fourth seemed to depict some sort of force field? The final arch had a pair of wings carved into the stone.

Link Links Falinks!

"Each path leads to a trial, we'll need to overcome all five in order to reunite it with its troops", Sophie passes on Falinks' message as the Pokemon eagerly awaits your decision. Which trial would you take on first?

Emp- Ty's uncertainty certainly wasn't expected. Him asking your opinion even more so. There was still a bit of a sore spot after Ty knocked back your last idea, but the elderly Hunter had given you an opportunity to make the call here. Cautiously gripping the ball containing your own Pupitar, you suggest the best course of action is to begin the search. If the shaman was already here, giving him more time to carry out his plan would likely be unwise.

Ty and yourself continue to make your way along the path towards the temple, eyes peeled for any signs of activity. As you get closer to the temple, two pools of water begin to run alongside the path. The water is barely visible beneath the multitude of water plants overrunning the pools, although the water you do see is murky and green. All was good so far, too good to be true.

"Wait", Ty stops, raising his hand. "Do you hear that?" Taking the time to listen carefully, you begin to hear what the old hunter was hearing. A hissing, bubbling sound, coming from either side of the path. "Get back, get back now!"

You both bustle backwards, just in time as the pools of water explode with a surge of energy. A violent tornado erupts from the pool on the left, the roaring wind almost seemed..... alive? Meanwhile on the other side, electric leaps from the water, the bolts lashing out before returning to wrap around each other as they seem to take form. It doesn't take long for you to put two and two together. This was the work of the Shaman again. Your mind flipped back to the rock creature that you'd fought earlier, this was clearly the same thing, expect these ones weren't made of stone. The living tornado sprouts smaller tempests from its side, almost like a pair of twisting limbs. The electrical anomaly condenses into what could only be described as a serpentine form, powerful jaws snapped together in a shower of sparks.

"More of these bloody things, guess that means that monster beat us here. Can't see anything like the Gigalith crystal that powered the last one, got a feeling their weak spots are going to be harder to find." Ty was quick to assess the situation and Tyranitar was raring to go. The Shaman was already in the temple, you couldn't afford to waste time here.

Mr.Mime rushes in, seeking to Copycat Kyurem's Breaking Swipe technique, while Mamoswine breathes deeply before billowing a thick mist to stop his stats from being dropped any further. Mr Mime rushes into close range, but its Breaking Swipe is met by a Brutal Swing of Black Kyurem's tail. Mr.Mime is crushed into the side of the cavern and Kyurem quickly puts an end to it with a Shadow Claw.

Mr.Mime is unable to battle! Mr.Mime gained 2 levels!

As Mr.Mime slumps against the wall of the cavern, Mamoswine charges in. At this point his Superpower strikes with less power than he'd hope for. Kyurem slams itself down onto the Ice type's back, Pressing the entire weight of its body down upon the worn swine. Mamoswine's knees buckle and it collapses beneath the Guardian's bulk.

Mamoswine is unable to battle! Mamoswine gained 2 levels!

Rising up, Kyurem lets out a victorious cry, its form reverting to normal as it releases a burst of electrical energy.

You fought hard and you fought well. Relentless, tenacious, almost enough but you lack experience. A shame that you won't live long enough to gain some, but die with the knowledge that you pushed me to my limit.

An Icicle Spears gathers in front of Kyurem's mouth. Instinctively, you recall your unconscious Pokemon into their balls. You begin to slowly take steps backwards, but you knew that at this point, running was futile. You're breath slows as you resolve to accept the fate that has been decided for you. Kyurem fires the spear with a tremendous roar. Your eyes clamp shut as you see the splinter of ice hurtle toward you. Suddenly something slams into you, not from the front, but the side! Almost in the same instant, you feel a burn cold in your shoulder as the Icicle Spear strikes home. If not for the shove, the spear likely would have pierced your heart. You slip into unconscious as your body succumbs to shock, eyes rolling into the back of your head.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The searing pain in your shoulder stirs you from your slumber. You reach immediately for your left shoulder, which was coated in dried leaves. Fresh blood dampened the leaves directly over the wound, but the good news was that you were alive, but how?! A fire was crackling nearby, looking across from the warming flames, you spot the white Lycanroc who you'd encountered during your climb up the Edelweiss. Was it the Lycanroc who had saved you from Kyurem's finishing blow? If so, why? There was certainly something odd about this Pokemon. Your bag and Pokeballs were all set off to the side, well out of reach, especially in your injured state.
It took all Hugo could muster to not scream out from the pain radiating from his shoulder. Flashbacks of the battle flood back to him; his last memories being Mr. Mime and Mamoswine going down while he faced certain death from the guardian of the mountain. He should be dead. He knew it. Somehow, he cheated it. But how? Who dressed this wound? Moreso, why?
The heat from the fire provided a modicum of comfort and over the blaze, he noticed the white Lycanroc. He and his compatriots had tried to stop Hugo from reaching Kyurem. Even at the time, Hugo sensed that there was more to their actions. They weren’t acting out of malice. No, Hugo could sense in his heart that they had been trying to protect him from a fate they knew he couldn’t handle. And they were right.
Still, what Hugo couldn’t figure out is why the white Lycanroc had come back. Hugo defied their efforts to protect him, and had shown nothing but arrogance and foolishness in the process. Truth be told, Hugo probably didn’t deserve to be saved. Not to mention that the Lycanroc likely had to put his own life at risk to save him. There’s no doubt that Kyurem wouldn’t be happy to have his kill taken away.
Hugo gingerly tried to prop himself up on his elbow, each move sending shooting pains through his arm.
“You. You saved me? Thank you. But I don’t understand. Why? Why would you do this for me? You owe me nothing. Had I been in your position, I probably would have just let me die.
Who are you?”
Lil' Bluey The time has come to test thy courage...
Pearl’s Perap – The Flabébé seems similarly surprised by your confusion to her so casually striking up a conversation, cocking her head in bewilderment.
“Yes, of course I can talk… Can’t you?”
Shane, albeit suppressing his snickers at the thought of a wayward waif, also senses the awkwardness of the situation and jerks you back to reality, pointedly reminding it’s not polite to stare whilst ignoring an earnest plea for help. You quickly remember your manners and make apologies, explaining the strange circumstances and eerie ember that led you here, offering to assist in any way regardless. Flabébé’s face lights up at the proposal, apparently glad to have any guests join her quest if it meant finding her friend faster.
“Thank you, I’d appreciate it… I was just on my way to go see the Great Tree for advice, I’m sure he’ll know what to do.”
With that, she gestures for you to follow, and floats off through the grove, still calling out every so often for the child in hopes he might hear her. As you walk, you start to notice a silver lining to the branches overhead, twinkling brightly like multicolored Christmas lights. Your attention arrested by the dangling strings of pearls, you fail to notice the footing ahead of you is coated in similar substance – and step straight into a white WEB, discovering how STICKY it is as it clings stubbornly to your sole. While Shane giggles at the gaffe as you try unsuccessfully to pry the tangled TP-like sheet off, you hear Flabébé cry out in alarm:
“Oh no! The Great Tree!”
Glancing up, your eyes are met with what you assume to be an ancient towering oak – almost unrecognizable in that a thick layer of silk completely cocoons around its trunk so that its bark is barely visible, choked roots and leaves gasping for breath. Before you can even react or warn, Flabébé rushes forth in a vain attempt to remove the wrapping and free the bound boughs – not realizing how adhesive the thread is and winding up entwined herself. Her desperate struggling only seems to make the situation worse, as you suddenly hear a hissing alerted from the vibrations from up above, and crane your neck up further to glimpse a gargantuan pair of Byzantium beads peering back down, glassy and gleaming with malice. It takes a moment for you to register the hungry heliotrope irises belong to an enormous Ariados as it eagerly begins to crawl down towards its new unsuspecting prey, mandibles mashing together malevolently. Behind it scurries a swarm of Spinarak as they emerge like lemmings from porous holes in the nest – an arachnophobe’s and trypophobe’s worst fears combined – advancing after their Queen in anticipation of feeding time, with flower meal next on the menu.
What do you do?
The Ancient Feywood
TheKnightsFury: In the face of impermeable darkness it’s the Guardian’s mercy that snaps you back to your old self; its mends were more than skin deep, stoking a flame within as you prepared to face off with your attempted murderer with fearless determination. Zygarde’s opening maelstrom is enough to disperse the mutts, slivering out of view as it slipped into chase. While an inches thick mystical forcefield stood between you and the Mindbender it wouldn’t hold for long, the combined magic and might of his forces working to whittle it away. When they broke free – you’d be waiting.
“I don’t remember you being this stubborn,” Ammorith japes, knowing deep down that the right move was to hold ground. With a flourish the Hunter lobs a Safari Ball into the air, his Armaldo returning to the fray once more with a look of pure grit. The Hunter and his partner had endured a longer torment and lost a lifelong mentor at the Mindbender’s hands, retribution that would be worth putting their lives on the line. With a splinter of photons the forcefield starts to give way, Grimmsnarl swinging its Arm like a Jackhammer, amputations only working to fuel its rage. The hexagonal prison shatters and disintegrates shortly thereafter, the escapees greeted by an incursion from all angles. Infiltrating enemy lines, the Dreepy starts by tasering Grimmsnarl with its Thunder Wave to hamper its speed mobility. Muscles tighting and wounded from the Guardian’s interposition, it makes little effort to beat away the Corvisquire’s Smart Strike, barking as the pest just as quickly swoops back out of range.
Light Screen, Reflect.” The Mindbender utters in juxtaposition of the ogre's growing ire. While the Prankster would sooner squeeze the life out of the bird he keeps his anger in check for a while longer, a fresh set of barriers enveloping enemy territory. Meanwhile the revitalised Ivysaur and Empoleon set sights on the blind mare with a score to settle. Ivysaur hunches forward before gatling Sludge its way, the Bombs buffered by the forcefield but still eliciting a pained whinny from the equine enemy. The Rapidash was frail in its old age, a chink the metallic penguin looks to capitalise on as he waddles inbound at breakneck speed, Wings glistening with a Steely sheen. Where the mare lacked physically, she more than made up in mind. Without verbal command her cloudy eyes swirl as she puts the Empoleon under Hypnosis, albeit with less potency as the Emporer Pokemon strains in visible resistance. This doesn’t stop him from intercepting Armaldo’s Fury Cutting effort, reluctantly meeting blade with blade. The familiar ring of steel sends your mind back to last time the pair sparred against their will, although the tables were turned with your partner playing the role of defector. Horn-stub glowing, the Rapidash closes out the round by firing a Healing Pulse at the Grimmsnarl, its muscle fibres healing over.
“You have disappointed me more than you could know, my brothers.” The Mindbender starts with a twisted smile, “Your insubordination will be met with a slow death at each other’s hands. Grimmsnarl, Play Rough and Sucker Punch.” While given time to deploy countermeasures, the neural link left his steed and her puppet penguin’s movements a mystery. The fight was just getting started and one wrong move could spell the end for entire ecosystems. What will you do?
If nothing else, the Falinks was endearing in the way it merrily reacted to the acquiescence of Sweeney. Five was certainly more than the Bartender had ever imagined, but at the same time it would be a worthy cause, and knowing Marco it was probably inevitable they would have stumbled across the temple's mystery one way or another. Better for it to be in aid of the suffering rather than a further blot on the Pancham's record - especially insofar as controlling the mood of Sophie was concerned.
On being given the choice of trial, Sweeney crosses his arms, sinking into thought. The pictographs no doubt gave hints as to the content of the trials - immediately, the crossed swords jumped out to him as likely indicating a battle of sorts, while the shield could mean they would have to withstand some sort of attack. The pair of wings could be either a race or an obstacle course. Try as he might, Sweeney couldn't think of reasonable options for the remaining two. With this in mind, the Bartender makes his decision.
Walking confidently towards the arch with crossed swords, the trainer steels himself for whatever may come. Despite his relative experience, Sweeney found himself hoping for something as straightforward as a fight. There was a lot to be said for the control that could be maintained, and even if his attitude had barely matured - maybe precisely because it hadn't - Marco had become extremely good at taking hits over the time they had been partners. With Sophie there to offer support, the Bartender felt confident in their chances.
What do you do?
Finding his bewilderment just as bewildering, the Flabébé brought Zak back to reality with a snap. The man and his Pokémon had just followed a peculiar ember through the woods before miraculously ending up in the gorgeous glade they now stood so it wasn't as if stranger things didn't happen. With his proposal of assistance met with a dazzling smile from the Single Bloom Pokémon, she quickly explained to the man what their next course of action should be: seeking the advice of the Great Tree.
"Makes sense, I suppose." Zak forced himself to approach her words with a degree more belief as the three of them started to head through the grove of trees; wherever they had found themselves, it was hardly your run of the mill copse. Besides, if the Flabébé could talk to him, who's to say the 'Great Tree' wasn't going to be a Pokémon too? In his mind, he conjured up the image of the three of them heading through the trees to meet a wisecracking Sudowoodo. Shane could sense the man was starting to daydream and swung himself around his trainer's leg like an impish toddler to bring his attention back to their surroundings.
All around the trio, the foliage appeared to twinkle and glint as if Christmas had come early, the branches surrounding them adorned with gorgeous pearlescent strands. Shane marvelled at the sight as much as his trainer, there was no denying the natural beauty of this location. Their eyes high in the branches, the man and his Pokémon continued onwards through the trees without paying attention to their surroundings until it was too late. The true nature of this peculiar beauty became clear to them before they knew it; the strands dangling in the trees before them were strings of sticky webbing made by some sort of arachnid and they had walked themselves right into a patch of the stuff.
Brought back to reality, Shane found great mirth in his trainer's feet tangled in the sticky web, tapping his ghostly hand on one of the Pokéballs at Zak's waist. Before the trainer could even look at which Pokéball the Ghost-type had motioned towards, their Flabébé guide cried out in dismay. Turning on his heel, it was quickly apparent what had bothered the Fairy so much: the Great Tree she had spoken about was in fact a great tree, only you could hardly tell it was a tree at all at that moment. The whole thing had been engulfed by the strands of sticky web that adorned the wood. Without a second thought, their guide flew towards the boughs of the tree, hopelessly grasping and pulling at the threads to free it from the adhesive restraints. It was no use, though, before anybody could make a move, the tiny Fairy-type was stuck fast. Matters were only about to get much worse, though, as the more Flabébé flailed and struggled against the twines around her tiny arms, the more the vibrations alerted the web's architect: a humongous Ariados appeared without a sound, her eyes trailed directly on the quarry not far from her grasp. In a flash, the Long Leg Pokémon started to head towards her newly acquired prey, a legion of Spinarak emerging from tiny holes bored in the thickest parts of the webbing to join in on this surprise feast. The man knew he had to react fast and he knew he had to get the Banette on board too.
"Shane, I know you'd probably like to see how things pan out but you need to help me to save our guide. Try to avoid getting yourself stuck in the webbing and get to Flabébé before one of that lot gets the chance to make a morsel out of her."
As he spoke, the man quickly scanned the Pokéballs fixed to his belt and deliberated between them, settling on a Dive Ball and pointing it away from the web he found himself caught in. This was probably the Pokéball Shane had motioned to before, he had always been good friends with the Pokémon within despite their differing personalities.
"Come on out Doug."
In a moment, the Royal Pokémon appeared before his trainer, yawning and primping his green and white collar. Much like the rest of Zak's team, it was a while since he had been in a battle but the moment he noticed the look on the man's face, he sensed a tussle was on the cards and wheeled around to face the arachnid approach. The Slowking quickly spotted the peril that the Flabébé had so unfortunately found herself in and threw a thumbs up to his trainer, ready and waiting for his word to make a move.
"We've seem to have found ourselves in quite the, uh, sticky situation, my friend. I want you to Teleport yourself between that poor Flabébé and the oncoming spiders. Once you're there, get ready to Ice Punch whichever eight-legged freak doesn't take the hint that we're not here to host a buffet."
The front-runners had been beaten finish line, the temple alive with ancient magic that bore a familiar signature. Emp shielded for cover as the pool erupted in an explosion of foam, churning into a fierce tempest – at the same time sparks danced from the pool’s edge down the cobbled walkways, forming a serpentine beast with a sparky hiss. Without a moment to spare the trainer brandished the Rock Ball he’d been fiddling all along, lobbing it ahead to bring a similar yet less evolved species to the fray. Sizing up the forces of nature, the greyish pupa sure enough knew the drill as it shifted to a battle stance.
“Taiko we need you to subdue these monsters until we identify a weak spot. Start by Bulldozing the electrical enemy – follow up with an Ancient Power on the flying foe!” The Pupitar furrowed his brow in curt acknowledgement, venting the pressurised gas stored beneath his rocky shell to propel a few feet closer to the elementals.
“Nikola, I’ll need your help too,” Emp continued, poring over the grounds as his mind strategized, “Charge up your batteries some more on my shoulder, then when Pupitar is finished temple terraforming, I need you to slip into enemy lines under Camouflage and search for anything resembling a power source.” Nikola’s eyes widened in a mangle of fear and disbelief, scuttling past four powerhouses came with a risk of being trodden on, or worse. Even still he conceded being built for such reconnaissance – agile, limber and invisible to boot. Emp wasn’t expecting the lizard to throw all caution to the wind, counting on his skittish nature to keep him from rushing in recklessly. Scanning the weathered cobbles for optimal routes, the solar powered sunbather’s fear began to dissipate. He would no longer live life as yellowbelly, physically or otherwise.
The familiar ring of steel sends your mind back to last time the pair sparred against their will, although the tables were turned with your partner playing the role of defector. Horn-stub glowing, the Rapidash closes out the round by firing a Healing Pulse at the Grimmsnarl, its muscle fibres healing over.
“You have disappointed me more than you could know, my brothers.” The Mindbender starts with a twisted smile, “Your insubordination will be met with a slow death at each other’s hands. Grimmsnarl, Play Rough and Sucker Punch.” While given time to deploy countermeasures, the neural link left his steed and her puppet penguin’s movements a mystery. The fight was just getting started and one wrong move could spell the end for entire ecosystems. What will you do?
This was the chance that he'd been waiting for. He finally had a shot at bringing Mindbender down in battle, but of course things wouldn't be that simple. While things looked positive early, Grimmsnarl soon recovered, throwing up a Reflect and Light Screen to shield itself and Rapidash. The mind bending mare then put its hypnotic powers to work once more, taking control of Empoleon! The Steel type clashed with Ammorith's Armaldo once more, Xander had to come up with a plan. He didn't want to attack his own Pokemon, he couldn't.
"Dreepy, Corvisquire, Double Team and spread out!" Grimmsnarl was paralysed but it could hit hard and Xander knew it would fit on relentlessly. "Dreepy hit it with a Confuse Ray, Corvisquire use Air Slash!" Dreepy couldn't afford to go on the offensive with the risk of a taking a Sucker Punch, but with added confusion and the chance of flinching from Air Slash, they might just manage to hax it into submission. One problem accounted for, onto the next.
"Ammorith keep Empoleon busy, we're going to try and break the Rapidash's focus but we need a clear path. Ivysaur, get in there and land a Leech Seed on Rapidash, then we need to keep wearing it done, smash it into the earth with Power Whip!" Xander hoped that if they managed to wear down Rapidash enough, its power and hold on Empoleon would break. Mindbender wasn't going to get the best of him this time, not after all he had done.
King Ghidorah- You were alive, you probably shouldn't have been but you were. The white Lycanroc saved you but why? There was something odd about this Lycanroc.....
"Who am I or who was I?" The Lyncanroc spoke in a deep, raspy voice. It could talk?! "I was once foolish enough to challenge the Guardian myself. I lost and Kyurem was less than impressed with my efforts, so instead of killing me it decided to do something much worse. I can't explain how, but it managed to swap my soul with that of my Lycanroc. By the time I woke, Lycanroc had already taken off in my body. When my people found him at the bottom of the Edelweiss, they thought I'd gone mad and thought it best to put an end to my suffering. Since that day I've guarded the Edelweiss, doing my best to ward off those foolish enough to confront Kyurem. I let you through because I hoped you would be the one to finally best the Guardian, but when I saw the battle was lost I couldn't let you die." Lycanroc gets up from the log, walking over to retrieve something it had stashed away. "When I removed the Icicle Spear from your shoulder, I noticed something contained within." The Lycanroc reveals a pair of stones, although they are distinctly different. One is a perfect sphere, the light bluish grey stone has a vein of red and grey running through it. A keen eye would recognise it as Scizorite. The other stone is completely different. The diamond
shaped slab of stone seemed to pulse with energy. A strange glyph was carved into the stone as well, its edges seemed misshapen, like it was once part of something else.....
"From what I can gather, this appears to be one of the four glyphs. The Guardians are said to protect the glyphs, which when brought together, are said to break the seal that protects the Soul of the Cradle. It seems the Kyurem has selected you as its champion, the Champion of Blood. Should the three other champions be crowned, the four of you should be able to enter the Soul of the Cradle, if that is what you wish. For now though, you need to rest and recover. There's a Healer's Guild outpost not far from here, I trust you'll be able to make your way there. Congratulations Champion, I wish you a speedy recovery." Lyncaroc hands you both of the stones before turning and heading off into the trees....
This brings a close to your current adventure. You're now in possession of the Blood of the Cradle, marking you as one of the four Champions of the Cradle. Once the other three Champions have been decided, you will be able to participate in a joint adventure. The Blood of the Cradle cannot be traded but can be returned if you no longer wish to stand as the Champion. You're free to keep adventuring in the Arboreal Cradle or go elsewhere if you wish. I hope you enjoyed the adventure.
Connor- You spend some time picking apart the pictographs. While three of them seem pretty simple to decipher, the glowing eye and the forcefield were still a complete mystery. You eventually decide to head down the path of the crossed swords. While you anticipate a battle awaits you at the end of the path, knowing your luck it is probably something completely different. The path continues straight for a short while, before eventually opening up into a large room. Statues of warriors line the walls of the room, while a large glowing orb on an altar on the far side of the room holds something of a particular interest to the Falinks. Floating within the orb is a round Pokemon that looks quite similar to Falinks, although the horn on its crest is much less pronounced. You'd found the first trooper.
Faaaaaalinks Falinks
The Brass speaks to Sophie, who quickly translates. "It says to trend carefully and keep our guard up." The Solosis' message is a fraction too slow, as Marco rushes for the alter. He doesn't make it more than a few steps however, as a pair of Honedge whiz from from either side of the room to block his advance. The two blades slash the Pancham in unison, driving him backwards across the stone floor. Falinks takes a step backwards, it appears that it won't be participating in the challenge. The two Honedge were ready and waiting for your advance, but was this all that the challenge entailed? Marco rises, having shrugged off the initial assault he was eager to get back in there and show the Honedge what for.
Emp- You waste no time, immediately calling out Taiko to face the elemental fiends. The Pupitar balances itself alongside Emp's towering Tyranitar. The Pupitar immediately gets to work, slamming into the ground, shaking it like a Bulldozer. The minor quake drives outwards, shaking the electric serpent along with Tyranitar, much to Ty's displeasure. "Watch what your doing kid, two opponents are enough without your friendly fire. Tyranitar, Stone Edge the Flying one then drive an Earth Power through the Electric one." While the big hitters keep the elementals occupied, Nikola charges himself up before leaping off your shoulder. He soon disappears from sight, concealing himself with his camouflage once more as he heads off on his scouting mission. He gives the conflict a wide berth, using a few large stones sticking out of the pools to circle around behind the Elementals.
Glowing blue stones erupt from the earth, striking the swirling Flying Elemental, aggressively driving it backwards. The Electric Elemental lashes out, lunging forward with incredible speed to strike Tyranitar with a Zing Zap. Correcting itself, the Flying Elemental drives its arms forward, the forceful Hurricane sends Taiko flying backwards. He crashes onto his back but manages to right himself by venting a blast of pressurized gas from within his shell. Taking aim, he fires back at the Flying Elemental, The Ancient Power seems quite effective against the monstrous maelstrom. The Electric Elemental lets out a pained his as the earth erupts from beneath it, Tyranitar channelling power through it.
"Watch closely kid and get your Pupitar to copy my Tyranitar", it seemed Ty was about to give you a mid-battle lesson. "Watch as Tyranitar focuses all of the power in its body and drives it all the way down into the earth. You've got to keep a clear lock on your target. Earth Power is relatively simple to master, it just requires some focus and the benefit is you don't hurt your allies in the process!" It was half mentoring and half scolding, but the lesson could prove invaluable. Nikola was yet to returning with information, the source of the Elementals' power must have been well concealed within them.
It was his destiny after all.
Hugo may not have defeated Kyurem, but he pushed the beast to its absolute limit. And as a result, he had be chosen to be the Champion of Blood for the Arboreal Cradle. Hugo recognized the magnitude of such an honor, but he knew that his time in the Cradle was far from over. He and the other champions would seek to understand the Soul of the Cradle.
Some day.
Those other champions, whoever they would turn out to be, had yet to be revealed. Until then, Hugo had other business to attend to in the Cradle.
“I want to thank you for all of that you’ve done for me,” Hugo said to the Lycanroc to whom he owed his life. “While I can’t undo what’s been done to you, I will do my best to finish your journey. To make you proud.”
Hugo rose very slowly, still feeling the chill of the Edelweiss…and through Winter’s Wrath…deep in his bones.
“But now I need to go somewhere else. Somewhere warmer.”
The largest of the wooded biomes of the Cradle, Grandshroud Forest encompasses much of the central forest belt and stretches to the far west, and comprises an area estimated by explorers to be at least the size of Sinnoh, if not larger. The forest itself consists of a variety of trees from the humble oak to the mighty redwood, and is by far the most popular forest for visitors and tourists due to this diversity. With permission from its caretakers and natives, a permanent settlement has been erected amongst the foliage to cater to the increase in traffic, albeit with some concern among the locals. Nevertheless, for those who wish for the great outdoors, there is no better forest than grandshroud Forest.
Grandshroud Forest is a temperate forest, and many pokemon who reside within it are suited to such a location, making it suitable for easier adventures, debatably. Throughout your travels in this area, you have the option to visit several sub-areas, which are listed below. (please reply in forestgreen)
Sub Areas
The Breeders Guild: Nestled on the forest floor beneath Cedar City, the Breeders Guild has been established to study and care for the native Pokemon of the Arboreal Cradle. The Guild readily accepts apprentices, who are often required to travel with senior guild members to different parts of the Cradle
Hugo made his way to the Healer’s Guild outpost as the Lycanroc had suggested and spent a good several days under their observation, allowing both himself and his team to heal. He was grateful for their generosity and spoke at length with several of their members about potentially extending his stay and spending time with them. Yet by chance, he spoke with a former member of the Breeder’s Guild who had since transitioned into become a Healer who had convinced him to seek out the Breeder’s Guild. Hugo had always been interested in Pokemon breeders and felt it may be a better fit. Besides, he figured the transition from the frigid temperatures of the Wildwoods to the Grandshoud Forest would be easier on his body than if he went from one extreme to the other by joining the Healer’s Guild in the rainforest.
And it was pleasant. Hugo appreciated being able to feel all of his extremities without having to be beneath layer upon layer of clothing. The cold does a number on your senses. Hugo could actually smell again; the rich earthiness and fragrances emitted from all the different trees and plants in the forest.
The Champion of Blood came upon the Breeder’s Guild, optimistic about what the next chapter would hold.
Collecting:
1x Scizorite
1x Champion of Blood Glyph
Thanks TKF! Looking forward to what's next!
The two Honedge were ready and waiting for your advance, but was this all that the challenge entailed? Marco rises, having shrugged off the initial assault he was eager to get back in there and show the Honedge what for.
The immediate thought crossing Sweeney's mind as he watches the Honedge collide with Marco is as simple as it was nonchalant.
They're screwed.
Marco was many things. He was boorish and selfish, imposingly energetic and regularly oblivious to the blunders he causes. Unfortunately for the ghostly duo, he was also a damn good fighter. Hissing in fury, the Pancham readies to face off against one of the animated swords alone, the tiny panda flashing a grin as he cloaks his paws in darkened energies, preparing to initiate with a Foul Play followed by a Crunch, annoyed by the sudden assault but more than happy for the opportunity to vent. He'd been sucker punched too much already today.
As confident as Sweeney was that Marco could handle it, leaving the Pancham to battle both Honedge would be ill advised. Cain was definitely capable, but his primary means of attack would be somewhat hindered by their levitation. Sophie was at a marked disadvantage, given her weakness to Ghost, After a brief moment, Sweeney makes his decision, quickly producing another Poke Ball. With a flourished flick, the orb splits to reveal Athena. The Pawniward is quick to assess the situation, adopting a fighting stance and awaiting command - while a skilled duellist, her adherence to Bushido meant she would not engage without direct orders from her superior. Rolling her eyes at this, Sophie hurriedly relays the message.
"Start off with a Snarl, then strike with a Dark Pulse. Maintain distance as much as you can, trying your best not to hit Marco... that last one is negotiable, though.
The battle against the elements was off to a trying start, the blue boulder blundering with its brazen bulldozing. Emp reeled as the Tyranitar stumbled and snapped against the friendly fire, the trainers sharing a similar exchange a few paces away. The scolding came with a lesson though, Ty instructing his Tyranitar to channel energy from the tips of its toes down toward the electrical basilisk in a precise and powerful surge. While the species were known for their physical prowess, Emp understood they were capable of mastering a wide pool of special attacks too. Having regained his balance, Taiko paid close attention to his more seasoned counterpart – the subtle shift in stance, steady breathing and precise footwork. Out on the field there would be no time for practice, the cocoon would have to test the technique against a live enemy. The foes wouldn’t let up either, churning up a storm with the source of their mysterious power no closer to being identified – they would double down the aggression tactics for now in a bid to buy Nikola more scouting time.
“Time to put that technique to practice Taiko – give Earth Power a try against the electric-type. Follow up with the same technique again until you have the hang of it.”
“Helioptile, spin an Electro Web on the enemy’s side of the field”, Emp continued, hoping his voice would carry over the fierce winds ahead, “The subtle vibrations in the web might just give you a tell to their power source. If you think you’ve found it, Raise its Voltage.”
King Ghidorah- After spending some time at the Healer's Guild, your wound from the battle with Kyurem is feeling much better. As the newly christened Champion of Blood, you had an interesting future ahead of you, however it would take time for the other Champions to rise. After spending so long in the frigid Palearchean, the temperate Grandshroud Forest was a welcome change of both scenery and temperature. The marvellous Cedar City was built into the trees above you, stretching over miles of forest, but the place you seek wasn't above, it was nestled on the forest floor below.
The main building of the Breeders Guild is a quite large, constructed from wood and built around a large cedar tree. A high wooden fence stretches out from each side of the build, a necessary barrier to prevent unwanted guests helping themselves to vulnerable Pokemon. With a heave you push open the heavy wooden doors, your injured shoulder giving a slight twang of pain. You enter into a surprisingly peaceful hall, large plants grow around the room, flowers budding on them fill the room with a pleasant, calming aroma. A middle-aged woman in blue overalls makes her way towards you, a dull pink flower is nestled in her hair. "Hello, are you here to volunteer? We're always looking for extra help. We are expecting some new Pokemon to arrive shortly, perhaps I could give you a quick tour of our facilities before they arrive?" Suddenly the flower in her hair begins to shake, as a Shiny Gossifleur reveals itself. "Oh how rude of me, I'm Flora and this is Fleur, I'm one of the head breeders at this facility. If you don't mind me saying, you look like you've been through hell." Flora chuckles softly, she wasn't exactly wrong....
Connor- Your first trial seemed rather straight forward, a battle against a pair of Honedge. Nothing Marco couldn't handle, but a two on one battle was always risky, it was best to even the odds. As you release Athena from her Pokeball, Marco rushes in to begin his assault on the haunted blades. He strengthens himself as he lashes out at one of the blades with a paw cloaked in dark energy. The Foul Play hits hard as he uses the Honedge's own strength against it. Having been issued her orders, Athena joins the fight, keeping her distance as she lets off a startling Snarl. The wave of dark energy washes over the Honedge, reducing their special attack on top of dealing a nice super effective blow.
The Honedge's swing around each other, brandishing their blades wildly as they power up with a Swords Dance. Using that momentum, the blades launch their first attack. Marco lets out a wince as one slices straight along his side with an Aerial Ace. Athena narrowly avoids a direct hit from a Brick Break as the other blade comes swinging at her. Thankfully the distance allows her the opportunity to spin out of the way. Steel scrapes against steel as the Honedge gets only a glancing blow on Athena, but even that is enough to cause the Pawniard a lot of pain. Marco lashes out with fangs this time, crunching down onto the Honedge's sheath, shaking his head like a rapid dog as he tries to inflict as much pain as possible. Athena pushes her opponent back with a Dark Pulse, but it likely isn't enough to keep it at bay for long. The blades slice back towards each other, spinning as the begin their Swords Dance once more. You'd managed to deal a fair amount of damage already, but your opponents are proving to be just as powerful, their strength increasing with each Swords Dance.
Emp- It was time for your lesson. A lot of Ground type attacks had the unfortunate downside of damaging allies as well as opponents. Taiko's Ground typing was really beneficial given one of your opponents was made of electricity, he just needed a better attacking option than Bulldoze. Thankfully there was one on offer and both you and Taiko pay close attention as Ty and his Tyranitar give you a quick lesson on how to use Earth Power. Confident you've got a good understanding of the process, you instruct Taiko to use the move. The Pupitar shakes as he gathers the necessary energy, however his first use of the move is underpowered and off the mark.
"Concentrate, the earth isn't an obstacle, its a conduit, work with it, not against it", Ty continues to offer sage advice. Meanwhile on the far side of the battlefield, Nikola continues his scouting mission. He lays out an Electroweb, hoping to feel vibrations through it. He latches onto the web, hoping to use it to pinpoint the location of the Elementals' power sources, but its almost impossible for him to distinguish. The Earth is vibrating far too much as Taiko continues his Earth Power attempts, although on a positive note, the Pupitar seems to be improving. It culminates in Tyranitar and Taiko slamming the electric elemental in unison.
Taiko learnt MT Earth Power
Their combined power is almost enough to overpower the serpent. As its power begins to fade, the source of its power comes into view. A glowing red sphere glows within electric elemental. While it was weakened, it wasn't down for the count yet. It's maw snaps open, letting out a long electrical tendril towards Tyranitar. The weathered Rock type catches it on its arm, only to realise it has made a mistake. The tendril begins to leech health from him, the Elemental was using Parabolic Charge! The twisting Flying Elemental sends blades of compressed air slicing towards you. Tyranitar and Taiko are forced to endure the barrage, thankfully shrugging it off without too much issue.
"Looks like that one is starting to struggle, just got to rip that power source from it now." Ty points out, "that other one doesn't want to go down though." The Flying Elemental roars as it begins to spin faster, growing larger and more powerful with each passing second.
”Well, as a matter of fact..”
Hugo paused before he finished his sentence. Flora seemed pleasant enough, and the weight of his experiences was difficult to carry alone; still, something inside told him not to be so open about being named the Champion of Blood. Could there be more to Flora than meets the eye? Could revealing this information to her put Hugo in some sort of danger? Perhaps. Or was it more that having been through the brutal trials that he had, he was looking more to find peace for now and bringing up his accomplishment would almost certainly eliminate any chance of that? That seemed more likely. Hugo did want to help the Pokemon that would come to the Breeder’s Guild; having been through what he had, he wanted to give back.
“Let’s just say I’ve had a rough couple of days,” he said with a smile. “The Palearchen is as cold and unforgiving as people say, that’s for sure.” Hugo decided that was all the information he would share with Flora…for now. He looked around at the plants and the flowers that lined the hall, inhaling deeply to embrace the sweet aromas they let off. The warm air filled his lungs, and he savored it. This place was calm. He needed clam. “But to answer your question, yes, I am here to volunteer. My name is Hugo, by the way. Hugo Harrison. It’s nice to meet you Flora. And you too, Fleur. This place certainly is very lovely, and I would love to see the rest of it, and please, let me know what I can do to help.”
Yanmega Arboreal Cradle - 32
The Ancient Feywood
TheKnightsFury: With several diverse biomes on the line you weren’t about to let up, doubling down the pressure while the Guardian attempted to corral its evil underlings elsewhere. You kick off by subduing the Grimmsnarl, its limbs locked in paralysis while Dreepy adds insult to injury by shooting off a Confuse Ray. Brains scrambled, the ogre starts to see Double as its avian adversary flits around the treetops with a Team of decoys. While the real Corvisquire isn’t apparent, he beats his wings all the same and sends Air Slashes raining down, the overwhelming assault on Grimmsnarl’s senses enough to keep his retaliation at bay entirely. Ivysaur meanwhile closes in on Rapidash, a Seed from his rosebud hurtling toward the Galarian breed. While her mind was focused elsewhere she has no trouble bending the projectile’s trajectory with her Psychic powers, coming to land on Empoleon - the friendly fire working to Leech away his resistance efforts.
Ammorith is assigned to stall tactics, his partner doing his best to hold back the enchanted Empoleon without hurting it, a task easier said than done. Ammorith seemed of similar mind as his partner rose back to its feet with claws bare. What will you do?
While her mind was focused elsewhere she has no trouble bending the projectile’s trajectory with her Psychic powers, coming to land on Empoleon - the friendly fire working to Leech away his resistance efforts.
While their assault on Grimmsnarl couldn't have gone any better, Rapidash was still proving to be a thorn in his side. If the magical mare didn't have Empoleon as its puppet, Xander was confident they'd be able to bring it down. The steel penguin was stalwart in its duties however and was doing everything it could to protect the mind bending mare. Mindbender himself was starting to get frustrated, he called out to the disorientated Grimmsnarl, using it to bring the final Zygarde hound to heel. Xander watched in horror as the object Mindbender had created drew to Zygardes in by one, if Mindbender was doing what Xander thought he was doing, things were about to get a whole lot worse.
That said, with Mindbender's focus elsewhere, his Pokemon were now vulnerable, Grimmsnarl especially. It was time for that cruel beast to go down. "Calm your mind Corvisquire, then put it to rest with a Steel Beam! Dreepy boost the Steel Beam with a Helping Hand, then get over to Ivysaur as fast as you can." Ivysaur and Armaldo were struggling. Empoleon kept getting in the way, but perhaps that wasn't exactly a bad thing? Ivysaur looked back at Xander, he could feel they were thinking the same thing. "Ivysaur rush Rapidash with a Take Down!", the Ivysaur leapt off the spot, charging in knowing full well that Empoleon would seek to intercept her. That was the plan. Once the penguin was nice and close, she'd give him a big old douse of Sleep Powder. Once the Penguin was put to sleep or at least drowsy, he'd be unable to stop her Sludge Bomb from smashing the mare, an attack that would be even more powerful if Dreepy managed to arrive in time to give her a Helping Hand."
The Ancient Feywood
TheKnightsFury: The millennia old warrior was accelerating his plan against all resistance, the ancient relic held skyward as it amassed its pieces. He could no longer hide his pain as the intense radiation tore away at the skin on his arm, exposing his flesh. The supercharged cube goes just short of melting it down to the bone before leaving its gravitational ties and fixing itself to the warzone’s epicentre. The expansive faewood was painted red from its glow, threatening to burn your cornea if you looked directly into it. The Guardian was back on the scene with tenacious speed, but even for them it was too late to undo what had been set into motion. Its frill flares up as it fires a Thousand Arrows at the growing field of red plasma, the blitzkrieg doing nothing to prevent the birthing of a new basilisk.
K̒͂r̆͐́̽a̓̈̃͂k̉͒͂̽o̩̾̄̈̄ò̋̉̃̀̽o̅̽m͂͒̄̌!
Stronger than the sum of its parts, the Shadow Zygarde uncoils in mid-air and lunges straight for its counterpart. The two equal but opposing forces lock in fierce combat; the dark doppelganger latches onto the other’s body with a Crunch while it whipped it away with its Dragon Tail in return, a multi-story tree managing to break its fall while almost toppling itself. The abomination ups the ante by springing back with a Shadow Blitz sending its foe tumbling rearward, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. Battling in such close proximity was a death wish, but the Mindbender was counting on your retreat, so he could tip the scales in his favour uninterrupted – for that was the only battle that mattered.
You wouldn’t afford him such a chance, using the distraction to incapacitate his team once and for all. Ammorith required no instruction, he was quite simply bloodlusted: “This is for Lilev - and all the other Hunters you killed in cold blood!” His war cry is heard loud and clear as Armaldo’s claws ignite with bug energy, waiting for a moment to strike. Ivysaur bolts ahead with a Take Down, falling straight into Empoleon’s lap, a point blank Peck stopping her in her tracks. The Ivysaur was exactly where she wanted to be, taking the attack on the chin and ousting the penguin with a strong dose of Sleep Powders. The mare’s mindtricks are no match as the sedative runs its course, Empoleon falling to the forest floor with a soft thud. That was Armaldo’s cue, rushing in with a Fury Cutter, stacking in strength from the sparring match moments before, Rapidash bucking as the swipe nearly knocked it off its feet!
Corvisquire had come to roost in the forest canopy all the while, Calming his Mind as Grimmsnarl whipped aimlessly at the decoys below. With his brainpower boosted he takes aim, gathering minerals from his iron-rich body to charge a Beam of Steely resolve. Dreepy stokes its intensity with a Helping Hand, the metallic maelstrom engulfing the enemy entirely with nothing but a faint roar emanating from the impact zone. The shower clears to reveal a troll teetering on the brink, incensed by his master's lack of regard for the battle ahead. Keen to escape the Grimmsnarl’s line of fire, Dreepy makes a beeline for Ivysaur who was closing in on the Galarian steed. Her flower tinged a shade of purple as she prepared her closing number, with another Helping Hand from the prehistoric poltergeist. Rapidash’s pastel mane produces a Dazzling Gleam in the nick of time, the blinding glow throwing off Ivysaur’s aim and pelting both adjacent allies!
Dreepy is unable to battle! Dreepy gained two levels!
“There is no reversing the corruption once it has run its course!” the Mindbender taunts, resisting the pain of his scorched arm, “The two halves will fight for an eternity until the shadow consumes the light, giving rise to new creature that will purge this world. Only I can restore its form, once its work is done. A new Cradle will return from the ashes therein – and mankind shall know not to trifle here again. This is the natural order of things, the world before the Gods of Life and Death left it in ruin.” While it desperately wrestled its twin a distance away, the Guardian’s telepathic voice cuts through the Mindbender’s mad tirade:
THE BEINGS YOU SPEAK OF ARE ALIVE IN EVERYTHING THAT SURROUNDS YOU. LIFE AND DEATH IS AN ETERNAL DANCE, EVER CHANGING - YET ALWAYS THE SAME. KNOW THIS, THE ONLY AFFRONT TO THE NATURAL ORDER IS YOUR TWISTED VISION FOR IT.
The rebuttal irks the Mindbender more than you could know, red in the face with a noticeable twitch in his eye, rage fueling his final gambit: “Grimmsnarl, Break their Spirits then crush their bodies with your Darkest Lariat!” It was a suicide mission with his health stores at critical, but perhaps he stood a chance at taking some of your inventory down with him. “Rapidash, to me. Repel their advances with Expanding Force.” The battle had reached a climatic crescendo; your oppressor was on the ropes but you knew not to underestimate him by now, he’d lived a hundred lifetimes in preparation for this moment. So, what will you do?
Xander's worst fears were realised as Mindbender's new pawn to form. It was identical to the Guardian, except this one was corrupted by shadow, evil incarnate. The Guardian's attacks seemed powerless against its shadowy doppelganger, the pair seemed to be evenly matched although he had a sinking feeling that given time the Shadow Zygarde would win out. Mindbender had crippled himself in the process of creating his champion, although he only seemed more intense upon seeing his creation come to life.
Their push to break Mindbender's Pokemon was only partially successful with both Grimmsnarl and Rapidash managing to hold on. Corvisquire's Steel Beam was almost enough to put the snarling gremlin down, but it's desire to see Xander beaten allowed it to hang on. Empoleon was incapacitated with Ivysaur's plan working perfectly. While Armaldo almost managed to finish the magical mare, it managed to throw off Ivysaur's Sludge Bomb with a Dazzling Gleam, knocking Dreepy out in the process.
Dreepy reached lvl 10!
Xander recalled the dragon into its ball, as well as Empoleon. He knew Mindbender's Pokemon were close to defeat, but their next actions were aggressive and Xander knew they'd do everything possible to weaken him as much as they could. Grimmsnarl was coming in like a wrecking ball, Corvisquire would have to act fast but the bird was still reeling from the Steel Beam. "Combo time Corvisquire! Gather speed with a Flame Charge, then put Grimmsnarl down with one final Smart Strike!" Rapidash was going for an Expanding Force, the Psychic move would prove troublesome for Ivysaur. They had to finish this. "Ammorith, give it all you've got! Ivysaur, Sludge Bombs! Don't stop until its down!"
Xander couldn't help but keep repeating the words of the Guardian over and over in his head. "Alive in everything thing that surrounds us", Xander mumbled to himself. "This isn't just a battle between us and them, this is a battle between life and death and right now, there is more life in this place than there is death, we just need allies...." Xander swung his bag off of his back and rummaged through it. "Ahh, there you are, I knew I left you in here", Xander pulled the White Flute from his bag. The glass flute was meant to have the ability to draw in Pokemon, Xander just hoped that the Pokemon here would be willing to fight for their Guardian. He held the flute up to his mouth and prepared to play, hoping those music lessons at school were enough to get him by.
As you release Athena from her Pokeball, Marco rushes in to begin his assault on the haunted blades. He strengthens himself as he lashes out at one of the blades with a paw cloaked in dark energy. The Foul Play hits hard as he uses the Honedge's own strength against it. Having been issued her orders, Athena joins the fight, keeping her distance as she lets off a startling Snarl. The wave of dark energy washes over the Honedge, reducing their special attack on top of dealing a nice super effective blow.
The Honedge's swing around each other, brandishing their blades wildly as they power up with a Swords Dance. Using that momentum, the blades launch their first attack. Marco lets out a wince as one slices straight along his side with an Aerial Ace. Athena narrowly avoids a direct hit from a Brick Break as the other blade comes swinging at her. Thankfully the distance allows her the opportunity to spin out of the way. Steel scrapes against steel as the Honedge gets only a glancing blow on Athena, but even that is enough to cause the Pawniard a lot of pain. Marco lashes out with fangs this time, crunching down onto the Honedge's sheath, shaking his head like a rapid dog as he tries to inflict as much pain as possible. Athena pushes her opponent back with a Dark Pulse, but it likely isn't enough to keep it at bay for long. The blades slice back towards each other, spinning as the begin their Swords Dance once more. You'd managed to deal a fair amount of damage already, but your opponents are proving to be just as powerful, their strength increasing with each Swords Dance.
Ah fuck.
Watching Athena reel from the sudden Brick Break left a twisting knot in the stomach of Sweeney. He had assumed her type advantage would make the fight a breeze, but the thudding reality was far more complicated. Mind reeling, the trainer ruminates on the situation at hand. He could press forwards, resolving to keep this to a fair 2-on-2 encounter, but that came with the risk of Athena being hurt further - something which seemed a certainty, given how quickly their opponents had exploited that vulnerability. The only problem with involving a third Pokemon would be if the trial somehow punished that decision - but considering their proclivity to end up in bad situations, Sweeney was confident they could roll with the punches. With a nod to Sophie, he relays a new plan.
"Athena, stay at distance as you hit them with Dark Pulse, and then lock him down with a Thunder Wave!"
With this message passed on, Sophie readies herself, narrowing her eyes and taking clear aim. Waiting patiently for her opportunity, the Solosis begins gathering energy, determined to land the Blast Burn she was currently preparing.
Meanwhile, Marco is enjoying the anticipated battle. No real inklings of strategy were occupying the thoughts of the panda, who preferred a fluid and free style of combat, his exceptional instincts keen enough to inform his attack patterns. With a enthused grin on his face, Marco lunges towards his opponent, paws ablaze with blackened gauntlets. He'd go for yet another Foul Play, before trying out a Metronome. He hadn't found a fitting excuse to let loose with that yet, after all.
King Ghidorah- While Flora came across kind and pleasant, you were wary of divulging too much information. The Champion of Blood was an impressive title, many would likely seek to take it from you, they'd be out for your blood. "Oh you poor thing", Flora chimes, "well hopefully you find the work here rejuvenating, I often find it has that effect. Why don't you follow me and I'll show you around?" The breeder turns and makes her way towards a door at the far side of the room. You quickly follow her, eager to get a good look at the facilities.
Flora pushes open the door, which leads outside into the reserve. Some of the canopy above has been cleared to allow sunlight to filter down, more than enough to properly illuminate the area. The wooden wall that you saw outside stretches out and around the large area, creating a safe haven for the Pokemon that are brought here. Smaller trees and shrubs grow around the towering cedar trees, while large pools of water are spread out around the reserve as well. "We try not to keep Pokemon here too long. Pokemon are brought here for two reasons. Either they're brought to us after being freed from poachers, or they're being brought in for research purposes. Either way, our goal is to study them and then release them back into the wild as quickly as possible. Unfortunately sometimes we're not able to do so, but those that aren't able to be released are more than happy here." You begin your walk through the reserve, eyes darting everywhere at the different Pokemon present. Bird Pokemon rustle and squawk in the trees, a pair of colourful Pidove take flight, one was coloured bright green, while the other was also bright green, except for its head which was a deep red. In one of the pools you spot a pair of Psyduck squabbling, electricity sparking around their heads.
"Some Pokemon in the Arboreal Cradle look and behave completely different to those observed elsewhere. Sometimes its just a difference of colour, but we've observed distinct differences in behaviour as well. We believe that with the Cradle being shut off from the world for so long, the Pokemon here have adapted to suit their environment." Flora leads you on a lap around the reserve before taking you back to the main building. You re-enter through a different door, which opens into a small laboratory, with large enclosures built into the surrounding walls. "When Pokemon first come in we tend to keep them in here for monitoring before we let them out into the reserve. We also take DNA samples as well, which we can compare to samples we've collected from Pokemon outside of the Cradle. You said you've been in the Cradle for a while now, have you come across any interesting Pokemon in your travels?"
Connor- Athena's weakness had been exploited and you had a feeling it would be again. With that in mind, you consider swinging the numbers further into your favour. Despite being wary of the trial finding a way to punish you for doing so, you relay your new plan to Sophie. The Solosis began to gather a massive amount of fire energy. Marco and Athena would keep the Honedge busy, giving her the ability to pick her moment to launch the powerful attack. As the blades split up once more, Athena blasts the Honedge she's battling with a Dark Pulse, driving it back as she seeks to further herself from the deadly blade. Marco exploits the boosting antics of the Honedge, using an even more powerful Foul Play than before as he slams his fist into the blade. Suddenly the blade's blue cloth lashes out, wrapping around Marco's arm. The other Honedge pulls a similar move darting in to wrap the silk cloth around Athena's arm. Both the Pancham and Pawniard let out a short cry of pain as the Honedge's bond to them, their destinies now entwined.
Sophie doesn't know what to do. Marco and Athena walk mindlessly across the room to stand alongside each other. With the blades now bound to them, there was no way that Sophie could hurt the blades without hurting them as well. The Honedge's seemed to have control of the pair now, given the opportunity, they could be turned against you. You had to make a decision. Unleash the Blast Burn and take the Honedge down alongside your own Pokemon, or find a way to severe the bond and risk being attacked by your own Pokemon.
Six Dragons: LONG overdue but Update for you
Chaos erupted within the cavern, Many different cries could be heard yowling at once, and the smokescreen you had your slizzipede fill this chamber with worked both in and against your favor. No other pokemon could see you within the oasis pool, but you couldn't see outside of the pool.
Goomey swam into your arms as best as you could tell, and then you had a moment of panic. The usual weight of the rufflet you were carrying around on your head that you kind of had grown accustomed to was missing and you couldn't see nor hear it within the masses of cries of the other startled pokemon and within the oasis water. This was bad, very very bad.
You knew Rufflet couldn't handle a battle between other pokemon as of right now due to its weakened condition from you battling it yourself along with its plausible extended starvation. Without being able to recognize the pokemon around you, you couldn't determine what would be the worst threat to the Eaglet baby. You have to come up with a new strategy to make up for the chaos you caused and secure the eaglet pokemon before any more harm came to it, otherwise, you feared it could die here today and the thought of your actions being the sole cause for its premature death wracked your body.
Unbeknownst to you yourself, the Eaglet pokemon was actually perfectly fine as it could be given the circumstances and was flapping its tiny wings and hopping about looking for someone, thing, or pokemon that it was familiar with. He came across a rather odd-looking rock formation and decided to do the same thing it did when its mother hadn't returned to feed it a week or three ago. It perched atop the boulder that was shaped oddly and waited for somehow it just knew that you would find it once again.
What will you come up with?
Hugo was certainly intrigued by the Pokemon he passed. Regional variants were fairly widely known at this point, but he never really considered that the Cradle itself was isolated enough that it could happen here. The colorful Pidove and seemingly electrifying Psyduck – which by the way were sparking in a pool of water which was certainly dangerous for everyone around – were something to behold. The Breeder’s Guild certainly had quite a setup, that was for certain and Hugo was much happier to be here in this moment than freezing his ass off on the Edelweiss.
“You know, there have been a few interesting things I’ve seen,” he responded to Flora, thinking back on his trek through the Wrath and the Edelweiss. “There was a shiny Ariados that I encountered in the Winter’s Wrath. It was certainly interesting, but probably run-of-the-mill for the things you encounter here. Then there was this Rattata.
This Rattata was unbelievably strong. It took down a Steelix and it almost took out my own Bisharp. On its own! It’s trainer – who for some reason insisted on wearing shorts…which are both comfy and easy to wear – he claimed that it was in the top 1% of all Rattatas. I mean, I really don’t know who or how could quantify that. Is there some sort of Rattata measurement agency that could bestow such a title? I really don’t know. The kid was kind of a whack job, but there was no doubt that his Rattata was powerful.
And then there was this Lycanroc who coul—”
Wait. Stop. Be careful what you say.
“The Lycanroc was of a different color than I had ever seen before.”
Don’t even think about mentioning Kyurem.
“But that’s really it. Certainly you’ve seen more interesting things here?”
Marco and Athena would keep the Honedge busy, giving her the ability to pick her moment to launch the powerful attack. As the blades split up once more, Athena blasts the Honedge she's battling with a Dark Pulse, driving it back as she seeks to further herself from the deadly blade. Marco exploits the boosting antics of the Honedge, using an even more powerful Foul Play than before as he slams his fist into the blade. Suddenly the blade's blue cloth lashes out, wrapping around Marco's arm. The other Honedge pulls a similar move darting in to wrap the silk cloth around Athena's arm. Both the Pancham and Pawniard let out a short cry of pain as the Honedge's bond to them, their destinies now entwined.
Sophie doesn't know what to do. Marco and Athena walk mindlessly across the room to stand alongside each other. With the blades now bound to them, there was no way that Sophie could hurt the blades without hurting them as well. The Honedge's seemed to have control of the pair now, given the opportunity, they could be turned against you. You had to make a decision. Unleash the Blast Burn and take the Honedge down alongside your own Pokemon, or find a way to severe the bond and risk being attacked by your own Pokemon.
Sophie understandably falters at the prospect of injuring her friends, even when one is as obnoxious as Marco. With a curt nod Sweeney validates her decision, giving the Solosis permission to harmlessly discharge the gathered flames. As she does so, she looks to her trainer with worried eyes, desperately searching for some sort of solution to their predicament. Reaching into Sweeney's mind, she finds a tumult of anger mixed with frustration - but there was a surging undercurrent of determination. He would not allow his partners to be toyed with so frivolously. Raising both hands in mock surrender, Sweeney spreads his body as wide as he can, looking to give cover to Sophie as the Solosis turns her attentions to his backpack. Their plan was simple.
Sophie would use her telekinetic powers to locate Lancelot's Love Ball and release the Slowking, who would blind the Honedge with Flash in conjunction with Cain, who would swing a Sand Attack at the animated swords. Ideally this would disorient them enough for their hold to loosen, at which point Athena and Marco would be instructed to retaliate with Dark Pulse and Foul Play respectively.
Of course, there was always the chance that the scheme failed utterly. In that eventuality, Sophie would quickly move forwards to Protect against the attack from Athena, while Cain would use Harden to try weather the storm from Marco. Lancelot, meanwhile, would aim a Yawn at one of the Honedge.
It was a long shot, but it was the best idea Sweeney could come up with on such short notice. Hopefully Lady Luck would smile upon them... for once.
Lil' Bluey Oh, Queenie...
Pearl’s Perap – With fangs fast approaching the imprisoned Flabébé, you quickly summon your Slowking to help deal with the “sticky situation”. Doug lazily looks over the scene, soon realizing the dire circumstances as he pops up his collar and prepares to lay down a royal beating. Throwing a thumbs up, he vanishes in an instant, reappearing right before the startled Ariados as she abruptly halts in confusion. Coating his fist in frost, the King reclaims his crown by slamming snow straight into the center of the bug’s exposed back, overthrowing the Queen as she loses her grip and slips, dramatically descending down to the depths of earth like a Disney villain. A few of her children were dislodged by the impact as well, whilst the rest watch anxiously from above, remaining still and unsure what to do without Mother.
The sinking spider manages to right herself mid-air though, and swiftly spins a web to break their fall, landing safely with a slight spring as she turns and glares at her assailant, who had simultaneously flashed back to his point of origin. Hissing in anger, she unleashes an ungodly screech as her grounded offspring heed the signal and suddenly swarm at Doug, the INFESTATION crawling all over his skin and sinking their tiny mandibles in the “false” monarch. Their added weight combined keeps their prey from moving easily, preventing escape as the leader charges at her opponent and SWIPES with FURY at the imposter imperator. Doug peers desperately at you from behind a sheath of squirming insect legs and claws, begging for help getting out of this incredibly uncomfortable and horrifying predicament.
…Meanwhile, with his partner successfully “distracting” the arachnids, Shane had surreptitiously hovered over to the hanging flower and shushed her struggles by putting a finger to his smiling stitched lips. (Although to be honest his grin wasn’t all that reassuring, stretched slightly too wide as he seemed to enjoy observing the chaos unfold.) Still, he had a job to do, and after some consideration on how best to handle severing the puppet strings, he mysteriously produced a pin from somewhere (possibly his own stuffing?), and began meticulously sawing through the marionette thread. Unfortunately the thin needle wasn’t an ideally suited tool for such a sturdy task, so it would clearly take some time before he was able to fully free the fairy.
What do you do?
As the situation unfolded before his eyes, Zak quickly tried to formulate his next moves. Doug had successfully managed to ward off the Ariados' approach with a well-timed Ice Punch but he was now being engulfed by her hatchlings who had started to nip and bite at the Royal Pokémon in their scores. Nearby, Shane was struggling with his mission to release the Flabébé but didn't show any signs of giving up. Instead, he had removed a pin from somewhere within himself and was using this to try and pick at the webs that were binding the fairy so. Despite his attempts, though, he was unsuccessful at releasing her and looked to his trainer coolly for a suggestion.
Before the man could offer any advice to the Banette, he noticed that Doug had been unable to shake the many Spinarak before their Ariados mother had managed to regain her composure and strike. As he desperately struggled against his many foes, she successfully unleashed an attack of great fury at the Slowking by way of revenge for his previous slight. He knew he needed to act fast, it wasn't just the Flabébé that found herself stuck: Doug couldn't move an inch with all of those arachnids crawling hither and thither, still nipping as they went.
"Doug, if you can hear me, I want you to use your Psychic powers to shake them off of you. Once you're in the clear, I want you to focus your Rage on their mother. If the Spinarak try to swarm you again, ignore the Ariados and try to Teleport to safety."
Zak hoped the attacks he had ordered would be enough to at least show the arachnid hoard that the Slowking meant business and that they weren't the sort of opponents to be taken too lightly.
"Great thinking with the needle Shane... wherever you happened to pull it from. That doesn't look like it's going to work, though, so I want you to try using a Shadow Claw attack instead."
The man hoped his strategies would work; though he was confident in Doug's battling prowess, he couldn't be as sure about whether Shane would be able to successfully free the Flabébé without harming the fragile fairy in the process. With this in mind, he called out to their guide, "I'm sorry if this hurts, Flabébé - once we're out of this mess, I'll help you in any way that I can."
