Here once more at the Haunted Mansion's Forgotten Garden, a Beginner Trainer Battle is about to be underway! The things that go bump in the dark have been staved off for the time being, as grey beams of light poke their way into the arena, eerily setting the mood. The rest of the arena is pitch black, so it's hard to tell whether it's daytime out here, or perhaps a full moon...

Finally, the light in the arena grows bright enough for both Trainers to get a glimpse at each other, before sending their Pokemon out to battle in this perilous arena...

Since this is a Beginner Battle, please familiarize yourself with all the rules therein. There are already a good number of battles that have already occurred, so by all means, please take some time to learn from those before you!

The order of this battle will go as follows:
-Lilbluecorsola sends out their Pokemon and posts any Healing items being brought into the battle.
-Psychopath sends out their Pokemon and orders first attacks, posting any Healing items being brought into battle.
-Lilbluecorsola orders attacks.
-I will Ref your attacks, attack order reverses, rinse and repeat!

Please remember that although you -could- just order your attacks each turn and leave it at that, it's far more interesting for all parties involved to use Roleplaying in your posts, as this is both the strength, and the fun of Fizzy Bubbles!

Jessica walked nervously into the garden, treading carefully over the tall blades of grass as she slowly made her way towards the arena. The darkness permeating the abandoned yard made her somewhat edgy, and she did not wish to incite any hostility from wild Pokémon before the battle even began. The scarce gray beams of light that filtered gradually through the ostensible covering of night hardly cheered the atmosphere; rather the unnatural illumination served only to make the garden appear even more eerie, as the silver spotlights danced laughingly across the earth. Jessica shuddered a little, beginning to slightly regret choosing this place to host her battle with Tyson, a young trainer whom she’d met recently. However, there was no use backing out at this point, so she may as well stick with her decision, she thought firmly as she unhooked a Pokéball from her belt.

Turning towards her opponent, she smiled and wished him good luck. Behind the positive exterior, however, Jessica felt extremely anxious about the upcoming battle, as this was only her second time participating in a structurally organized match against one of her peers. Her first experience had not gone so well, though she hoped this time might turn out differently. Taking a deep breath, she released her Pokémon out onto the field: a lovely young Ralts who was excited to participate in her first battle with Jess. The girl and her Pokémon gazed at each other for a moment, briefly sharing a Psychic connection before the fight began.

Are you ready for this, Al? the girl asked, now quite used to the concept of transferring thoughts to the Psychic Pokémon via her mind. Remember, I can’t send orders to you through telepathy for this match. Will you be all right with that?

Alice nodded. I understand. Don’t worry about it, I’ll be fine. Let’s both try our best, okay? She smiled confidently at the girl, and Jess beamed proudly back.

“Right. Let’s give it our best shot then!�

Tyson entered the ravaged field as quiet as possible not wanting to wake up any beasties, or worse. He didn't know who he was fighting or how he got here all he knew was that he was fighting someone named Jessica. Clearly an interesting battle was about to ensue. Come on Slice! Now I want you to fight your best!

Scyther:[(Home)Slice]
Bio: Having come from the adoption center, Slice is very independent, probably moreso than Tyson himself. He and Freeze have a very competitive rivalry always trying to outdo each other in every possible way. Since he is about the size of Tyson, Slice is the main pokemon to call when a giant pokemon attacks. That combined with his battle prowess makes him a force to be reckoned with, much to Freeze's jealousy. Since both pokemon are always trying to outdo each other they are perfect tagteam partners.

"I've been itching to try you out, remember all the karate I've taught you! Use Shadow Ball then follow it up with Pursuit! If we start up with a headstart we may win!" Tyson said overjoyed by the fact that he was seeing Slice in action.

Jessica quickly evaluated her opponent's Pokémon, eyeing the sharp razors attached to its upper limbs with a slight sense of discomfort. She had honestly not anticipated an amendment in the challenge arrangements to be proposed at the last minute, and the trainers had hurriedly agreed to the exchange only a little while before the match. The Scyther’s remarkable color scheme was also unexpected however, and it startled her a little at first as soon as it emerged dazzlingly from its container. As its vivid body gained structure and height, she was able to recognize its form and relaxed slightly – though its frightening insect appearance still made her feel somewhat hesitant about her decision. She turned to Alice, who nodded slightly, confident in facing her opponent. Jessica returned the nod, agreeing to place her trust in the Psychic Pokémon’s abilities.

"Use DETECT to avoid the SHADOW BALL,� she ordered swiftly. “Then after it uses PURSUIT, quickly hit it with CONFUSE RAY."

Slice starts out this battle with a bang! The bladed Pokemon hurls a massive Shadow Ball across the arena, but it looks like Alice is paying close attention to its surroundings, Detecting the move, and easily dodging out of harm's way. Frustrated about missing the first attack, Slice lets out a shriek, and divebombs Alice with an impressive Pursuit attack! Alice isn't going anywhere, however, and takes the attack head on. But what's this? A ghostly light quickly passses between the two Pokemon, and the Scyther backs off, acting weirdly. It's Confuse Ray! Alice used the close distance between the two Pokemon to easily mess with Slice's head. Looks like we're in for quite an interesting battle!

Slice has used a fair amount of energy this turn, and still appears ready for the fight ahead. He hasn't taken any damage, but he's confused, he may not be able to properly recognize his Trainer's orders! Alice on the other hand has taken a powerful Dark type attack, and looks decently bruised. On the other hand, Alice has barely exerted any effort, using minimal energy this round.

This battle has just barely begun!

Jessica watched excitedly as the battle commenced, and both Pokémon moved to begin their attacks. Slice crossed his scythes and began charging a dark orb, crackling with shadow energy. Alice however, anticipated this maneuver, and took a deep breath, retaining intense awareness of her surroundings. As soon as the orb was released, she dodged nimbly out of its path, letting the black sphere shoot harmlessly past her. Slice hissed in contempt upon seeing his attack fail, and charged forward, enveloping his entire body with darkness as he pursued his target across the field. Alice stood her ground and received the attack, wincing as the dark energy passed through her form. Opening her eyes, they flashed white as she transferred a gathered ray of spiritual energy across the short distance to the insect’s mind, scrambling her opponent’s thoughts. The Scyther stumbled away, behaving rather strangely as it gazed around in mystification at its surroundings.

Jessica smirked, pleased to see that Alice had succeeded in confusing their adversary. She had taken a rather nasty hit in the process however, as evidenced by the dark bruise left on the Psychic Pokémon’s body. Jessica frowned, knowing she would have to be careful not to allow her Pokémon confront too many shadow-based attacks. As she regarded the bewildered Scyther she grinned however, knowing they had been able to gain a small advantage based on the two challengers’ mental acuity.

“All right, Alice. That was good, now trap it with a THUNDER WAVE, followed by WILL-O-WISP!�

"Quickly, DODGE the thunder wave and then drink some of your Fizzybrew to shoot a FLAMETHROWER at Ralts!"

Alice sends a jolt of electricity out of her body, hoping to paralyze the confused Blade Pokemon with Thunder Wave, but Slice manages to catch the first sentence of his Trainer's orders, dodging just in time! Slice wanders around the arena after its sudden movement, confused for a moment, not sure where he is, or what he was doing for that matter, it looks like he's forgotten about his Mug of Fiery Fizzybrew...

Taking advantage of the situation, Alice lets Will-o-wisp drift slowly across the field. The bedazzled Slice watches the orb as it zigs and zags closer and closer until hitting him head on! Flames envelop Slice, as burns seep into his body. Slice hisses angrily in the direction of Alice, it's no longer confused after an attack like that!

Alice is doing well, conserving energy usage with a barrage of only moderately draining attacks, and did not suffer any damage this round, though the bruise across the Ralt's body does look painful. Slice has used moderate energy this round as well, and it's beginning to take its toll on him, you notice his breath is just beginning to become irregular. Health-wise, Slice has been badly burned, but in otherwise pristine shape.

Both Pokemon seem to be sizing each other up as we approach the next round!

Psychopath attacks, then Lilbluecorsola!

"Use PURSUIT to hit that little baby psychic, Then QUICK ATTACK to get away!" Tyson's strategy was simple: Hit and run. "The Simpsons have taught me well." Tyson said as he remembered the only video game he had ever played. "If I'm right, Slice will be ready for battle now that he's not comfused."

If he thinks he can run away, he'd better think again, Jessica thought secretly to herself and Alice. "Quickly try to DISABLE Scyther as soon as he starts approaching, then blast it with CONFUSION," she stated with a growing confident tone, her level of excitement increasing as the battle progressed. This was turning out to be quite an interesting match, and so far she was having a lot of fun. It was challenging trying to predict the outcome of each Pokémon’s actions, and trying to come up with the most effective response within a short amount of time required not only knowledge but also foresight. It’s almost like chess, she thought, although she had never even played the game.

Alice agreed somewhat vaguely with her trainer in the back of her mind, as she was trying consciously to remain focused on the conflict despite being able to hear all of the girl’s abstract musings. Jessica realized that she should do the same, and apologized for getting sidetracked before returning her attention to the battle, eager to continue.

Slice once again moves in to dive-bomb its opponent, but this time, Alice is ready. Summoning her powerful Psychic abilities, she's able to Disable Slice's wings! The Scyther's powerful Pursuit attack is brought to a halt as Slice comes crashing down, hitting the ground hard, the crash emphasizing the burns on his body from earlier.

Enraged at the fact that something so tiny could make him lose the ability to fly, Slice shows that he's no amateur, and flight speed isn't all he has. Alice fires off another wave of Psychic energy, but the Confusion attack misses as Slice moves in with devastating foot-speed. Alice recoils at the Quick Attack, and Slice darts back to the middle of the arena, a smirk on his face.

Alice has finally chosen to let loose with some powerful Psychic attacks, Disable being the most draining, and the contorted expression on the Ralts' face says it all. Alice's health is still doing well, the quick shot from Slice went to exactly the same spot as her previous bruise, which is hurting painfully. Slice is a little battered from falling out of the sky, but the burns on his body are beginning to take their toll. The Scyther tries to use his wings, but to no avail, they've been Disabled! You can definitely sense an irregularity in Slice's breathing now, the pant is beginning to echo into the surrounding woods.

The arena is beginning to get darker, as though sensing the tension in the battle, the grey light begins to fade, and at this rate, the Pokemon, and their Trainers will soon be enveloped in complete darkness...

Lilbluecorsola attacks, then Psychopath!

Though Scyther's wings were disabled, Jessica grimaced as he still managed to swiftly draw in close to strike Alice by simply using his powerful legs instead. Well, that didn't go exactly as planned, she thought grimly as she watched the insect dart instantly back to his original position, sneering at his opponent in triumph.

Jessica did not even have to look at Alice to know her state of health; she could hear the Psychic Pokémon’s slightly labored breathing as loudly as if it were her own, and she was also aware of the mental sensation of pain on a section of the little creature’s body. She closed her eyes and tried to focus momentarily on the precise spot where Alice was hurting, further attuning herself to Alice’s psychological state. Sorry, she thought as she sincerely empathized with her creature’s pain. We’ll be more careful from now on.

Opening her eyes, Jessica regarded the Scyther with a swift glance of appraisal. Well, at least his wings were immobilized, so that was a plus. Their plan had worked, to an extent. However, there was still his quickness on his feet to worry about, which had already made itself evident by the black mark on Alice’s body.

Speaking of black, Jessica suddenly noticed that the sky seemed to be getting a bit darker. As if sensing the amount of hostility present in the garden, the grey light appeared to be receding, hastily withdrawing into the safety of the shadows. Soon the field would be enshrouded in darkness, and none of them would likely be able to see through the gloom. The prospect made Jess even more nervous, though she did not wish to further distract her Pokémon by involuntarily expressing feelings of anxiety, so she quickly wiped the sentiment from her mind and concentrated all her attention on the battle.

“Use DOUBLE TEAM, followed by ICY WIND. Please be careful, try not to let him get too close to you again.â€� Jessica glanced doubtfully at the retreating rays of light. She hoped this battle wouldn't last too long into the night, as she feared for both the Pokémon's safety as well as the trainers'. Who knew what might be lurking inside the grass, waiting to pounce on them as soon as darkness began to fall?

Tyson was beginning to worry, not only was his Scyther taking some big hits, his arsenal was very limited caompared to the girl's Ralts'. "I know that was a reckless move Slice, I should have thought it through." Then it hit him, Ralts was female and Slice was male. "That's it! I want you to act ATTRACTive towards that psychic pogey!" Tyson looked through all his options, looking to see what to do next. "Drink some of that Fizzybrew Beer, then, when the timing is right counter Icy Wind with FLAMETHROWER!"

As the darkness of the arena slowly begins to set in, Alice senses that now is the time to mix things up a bit. Using Double Team, Alice makes three duplicate copies of herself, a total of four images of her appear on the field. Slice strikes a pose, trying to Attract Alice into letting her guard down, if only for a moment.

The Ralts didn't fall for it, however, the bruise on her body ached from previous attacks, and she wouldn't be tricked so easily. Slice saw that his ruse wasn't working, so he instead swallowed some of his Fizzybrew Beer. He waited patiently for the liquid to warm his body, all the while Alice focused on her attack. An Icy Wind blew across the arena, chilling Slice to the bone. Frost began to form on the Blade Pokemon's limbs, hindering his movement, and just as frostbite began to take hold, the attack subsided.

Alice hasn't been damaged this turn, but has expended a high amount of energy. The Ralts' breath is becoming quick and unsteady. Slice's burns give way to cold chill this turn, a fair amount of health has been taken. The frost does nothing to help his wings' condition, they're still Disabled! A minimal amount of energy has been used by Slice this turn, and his Fizzybrew Beer is still taking effect.

As the Trainers stare each other down, they notice their vision being hindered by the darkness of the Garden. They can no longer see across the its full length, and although they can hear each other's orders being yelled to their Pokemon, it seems as though the first 10 feet or so of each edge of the arena have become enveloped in darkness!

"Time to take advantage, of the darkness!"Altough I'm sure both of the pokemon can see in the dark though... "Whatevs, Use Pursuit to get close, but run. Then when you're in range release that Flamethrower you've been holding in." Tyson hoped this would work Slice didn't seem prepared to fight anymore.

Jessica couldn't help but smile in approval when she saw that Alice didn't fall for her opponent’s appeal. Instead she winked and blew the Scyther an icy kiss of rejection, which worked beautifully to chill the insect’s body which he had recently tried to warm by drinking beer. However Jess was aware that the internal conflagration induced by the alcohol was still amassed within his body, and thus she needed to be extremely careful during the next few rounds. Aside from the high possibility of spontaneous combustion, there was also the steadily encroaching darkness to worry about. Already Jess was beginning to find it difficult to see across the entire length of the field, and though she could hear her opponent ordering his next attacks she could no longer distinguish his form from the increasing shadows surrounding the perimeter of the garden.

Jess frowned, again starting to feel rather nervous about the situation. Then again she reasoned that her Pokémon was probably able to retain cognizance of her surroundings thanks to her Psychic abilities, so her trainer was able to relax slightly. Although the girl was beginning to grow more worried for herself considering her proximity to the border of tall grass encircling the arena, which was now enshrouded in complete darkness so she couldn’t tell what lurked in there. She shuddered in alarm, but quickly tried to put it from her mind as she concentrated on what her opponent was saying across the field, not wanting to miss his next set of attacks.

After hearing Tyson’s instructions, Jess briskly scanned the field, judging that there was a relative amount of light left for both Pokémon see by - enough for Alice to tell at least when her foe got close. She debated momentarily as she mentally listened to Alice’s rapid, uneven breath, before confidently deciding on their method of response to his plan.

“Alice, don’t get fooled by the first attack, it’ll only be a feint. When you see him get close, and as soon as you notice him start to open his mouth to release the flames, TELEPORT behind him immediately and use DRAIN PUNCH.â€� Listening to Alice's shortened breath, Jessica hoped that the next round wouldn't cost the Psychic Pokémon too much energy. The last round had obviously taken a toll on her vitality, and at the rate the battle seemed to be going, Jessica knew they definitely needed to preserve their strength towards the end, as it could very well decide the entire match.

Slice struggled as his frozen limbs weighed him down, but still managed to pull off his Pursuit attack. Alice easily dodges, the Blade Pokemon's speed is being hampered too much by that last icy chill! A fire rages in Slice's eyes, and is made even more evident by the gurgling of his belly! Sensing that this was the time her Trainer was talking about, Alice prepared Teleport, but not before Slice belches out a Flamethrower-sized arc of heat! As Ralts materializes behind Scyther, it's evident that Alice didn't quite get away in time, the right half of the Pokemon has burn marks all up and down it!

Alice was easily able to move in and Drain Punch Slice, as a way of saying "you're excused" after that loud burp. The punch connects, and sends both Pokemon skidding in opposite directions, due to the repelling nature of the move.

Alice took an intense hit from that heat up close, and is now sitting around half health. A moderate amount of energy was used, but Alice's draining punch restored a minor amount, her breathing is still quick and unsteady. Slice took a light hit this turn, but the hotness of that drink is playing a number with his previous burn, he must be at 1/4 of his health by now. Energy usage was moderate this turn, with Alice's attack sapping away at Slice's already low energy reserves. The Blade Pokemon is clearly tired now, and his breathing is very labored.

The darkness in the arena is expanding exponentially! A total of 40ft of the arena is now within the fold of this strange darkness...

Lilbluecorsola attacks, then Psychopath!

Jessica gasped in horror as soon as she saw the burns on Alice, searing up and down the entire right half of her body. For the moment, the Psychic Pokémon put on a brave face and ignored the pain as she quickly moved to complete her orders by clouting the Scyther as penalty for his extremely rude outburst. The force of her assault was enough to propel the two far apart in opposite directions, once again widening the gap between them.

Are you all right, Al? Jessica asked worriedly as soon as the Ralts came readily to a stop, having been prepared for the heavy recoil. The Ralts nodded, wincing as she held onto her right flank, which was obviously burning with pain. Jessica could hear her Pokémon’s uneven breathing through the darkness, and she grimaced with guilt, choosing to blame herself for her Pokémon’s terrible injuries. To her unforeseen shock, Alice abruptly snapped at the girl in response to her trainer’s overflowing remorse, insisting that it wasn’t her fault.

It was a good plan, I just didn’t react fast enough, the Ralts explained simply. Don’t beat yourself up over it.

Jessica was rather astonished by Alice’s curtness, but nevertheless consented to obey her concise words. The girl began to sense that despite the damage the Ralts had accumulated, her level of excitement seemed to be growing instead of declining. The rush of adrenaline had filled her with an ardent desire for victory, and her true message was that she had faith in her trainer’s ability to achieve success, as long as the girl would quit doubting herself.

So don’t hold back, Alice stated firmly; this time she was the one to give her trainer a command, and Jessica smiled bemusedly, highly impressed by her Pokémon’s comparative boldness as she resolved to comply with Alice’s hopeful demand. If they desired to win this battle, then from now on she needed to have as much determination and confidence in herself as her Pokémon expressed she had in her.

“Let’s try to keep our distance for now, Alice. Try THUNDER WAVE again, and then use SHADOW SNEAK to hopefully take him by surprise!�

"DODGE that Thunder Wave and COUNTER that second move!" Tyson was getting desperate, he was losing his cool (if he had any) and was getting ready to jump into the nbattle himself and knock that Ralts silly. Of course, he would get his ass wooped, but that didn't matter, he needed to release his anger.

Thunder Wave whips across the field as Alice releases another jolt of electricity from her body, but Slice dodges it! It looks like this Scyther knows that it can't afford to lose any more mobility than it has. Using the darkness that has been slowly closing in on the arena, Alice lashes out, attacking Slice's completely defenseless shadow with a Shadow Sneak. Slice screams out in pain, not used to having his life force poked at so directly.

Eager for revenge, Slice moves in to Counter the move, kicking the diminutive Ralts right in the side that it was burned. Alice stumbles in pain, but manages to get back up. Both Pokemon are now in close range of each other, Slice with a glean of hatred in his eyes, and Alice, taking on a determined stance.

Alice has used a moderate amount of energy this turn, her breath can be heard coming quick and unsteadily from her Trainer's corner. Alice has also taken a moderate hit this turn, and starting to look pretty beaten up. Slice has taken a light hit this turn, and his burns are still searing away at his flesh, this Pokemon clearly can't take much more. Slice's energy usage this turn was high, and it's clear that the Blade Pokemon is tired. Although Slice has regained the use of his wings at the end of this turn, he's down on one knee as he glares threateningly at Alice.

Darkness has finally enveloped the entire arena, and Trainers feel completely lost in this darkness, as though someone put a blindfold over their eyes, and turned out the lights! Although both Pokemon have keen senses, the darkness in the arena could still make it easier to make mistakes, but at the range they're both at, it's likely not a factor...

Psychopath attacks, then Lilbluecorsola!

"This time FLY up into the air and divebomb That tiny pokemon in a zigzag fashion!" Tyson looked over at the pokemon and realized it was really tiny, and a miscalculation could cause a death to Slice. "Look, landing may be difficult so I want you to use PURSUIT, when you are about to land if it moves!" Slice's wings had been out for a while, so using them now might be his only chance to use them in battle, and Tyson wasn't giving up that chance. "Now go!" Tyson said clearly his opponent had the upper hand.

Sorry I didn'y post this but Slice should be able to fly.

Al? Are you okay?

The darkness was making it difficult for Jess to even see what was in front of her. She mentally scanned the field for her Pokémon, trying hard to locate the abstract presence of her consciousness. Recurrently coalescing with her Pokémon’s psyche throughout the battle had helped to strengthen their mental attachment to one another to the point where they could even sense each other’s existence on a psychological plane, and immeasurably improved the girl’s ability to utilize her mind to perform conceptual tasks. Jessica was immediately able sense Alice’s mental position before she even received the Ralts’s response, nearly astonishing herself with how effortlessly she managed to do so.

I’m all right. Don’t worry, the Ralts answered, although Jess could feel her immense pain from the combined burns and bruises on her skin.

What should we do now? I can’t see Scyther anymore. Can you still sense him?

Jessica suddenly heard Tyson shout his attacks from across the completely dark turf, temporarily recalling her consciousness to her surroundings. She began to feel unexpectedly lost as she realized she was currently surrounded on all sides by shade, as if the gloom had swallowed her entire body and all that remained was her consciousness as well as Alice’s on the field. She closed her eyes (though it hardly made any difference at this point), and focused solely upon Alice’s telepathic voice, retaining awareness of her partner’s presence at all times.

Do you think we should try to end it now?

I told you, don’t hold yourself back. This is your decision to make, not mine. I have faith in your ability to make judgments on your own without my consult.

She was right. Without any further discussion, Jessica resolutely called out her plan, putting trust in her reason and her Pokémon’s capability to succeed. From now on, there was to be no holding back between the two.

“Alice! ENDURE his attacks, and then finish with PAYBACK!� she yelled, biting her lip anxiously. This would either make or break the determined pair - hopefully the former.

Flying up into the air, Slice hissed at the diminutive Pokemon causing him so much pain. This battle would be his! Letting out a howl, the Blade Pokemon dove through the darkness of the arena, Pursuing Alice at breakneck speed! As he finally approached the ground, hovering at top speed, he sliced at Alice with vicious ferocity!

Alice sat patiently, Enduring the attacks as best she could. Gashes began to form all over her body as the enraged Slice fought on. The Ralts finally saw her moment, and unleashed a wicked attack as Payback for all the pain she'd taken on! Slice is awestruck at the power of the tiny Pokemon's attack as it skids to its Trainer's feet on the other side. Slice looked up at his Trainer as he began to lose consciousness, disheartened at the loss, but content that he gave his all, against a formidable combatant.

As the battle comes to a close, a bright light sparks to life in the arena, threatening to blind both Trainers in the pitch black darkness. The star-like object floats down just above the wounded Alice, who looks confused for a moment, before nodding in understanding. Touching the light above her, the star disappeared, but Alice continued to glow. The tiny Pokemon smiled back at her Trainer, Alice had won.

OOC – Proudly picking up my first Beginner Trainer Battle Trophy. Thanks a lot for reffing our battle, Cyprus. ^-^ It was a lot of fun, especially since I got to develop both my trainer’s and Pokémon’s characters. Thank you for the fast and wonderful updates. <3

Jessica grit her teeth as she felt every successive blow engrave her Pokémon’s soft flesh as agonizingly as if it were her own. All her energy was spent towards sustaining the psychic correspondence between their minds, offering her mental support as she obstinately bore with the implacably painful incisions. Each excruciating second perpetuated for an eternity, until she could persist in her steadfastness no longer and lashed out impressively in retribution. The Scyther pitched backwards in response, elevating his dimming head once to regretfully acknowledge his accepting trainer before slumping blissfully into unconsciousness.

A radiance sparkled to life in the middle of the field, expanding its aura fiercely to nearly rob the overcome trainers of their precious sight. The luminary gradually declined overhead until it approached the wounded Alice, hovering proudly just before her reach. The injured Pokémon blinked, then understood. Extending her pale hands, they contacted the brightness, drawing its light into their possessor’s body. The star vanished, and she remained, smiling contentedly at the girl, who reassuringly smiled back.

“Al, you did wonderfully. Now return to your ball so you can rest,â€� she whispered softly, extracting the weary Pokémon from the garden through her capsule’s scarlet beam. No words were exchanged, telepathic or otherwise. None were required to express the close pair's mutual pleasure. She turned and advanced towards her rival on the reverse end of the arena, gently offering her warm palm in consolation.

“You guys were great, it was a really close battle at the end. I look forward to meeting with you two again. Perhaps we can have another battle someday.�
