UPN: THE GAME
Maybe you had a shitty year. Maybe you had a shitty last 10 years. Who knows? But here at UPN no matter how shitty things have been there is a way to end the year and decade on a high note:
UPN: THE GAME It only took a million years, but it is finally here. Play as the awesome Kuno, on the forums of UPN. Visit other forums (some of which no longer exist), see forum members and save UPN from doom! Before you start installing reading the instructions will help! Instructions: To go into windowed mode press Alt and Enter Also if the game isn't completely working right and you run Vista or 7, try running it in Windows XP mode Here is a quick guide made by our Stlbk! Basically click on the setup to get it running. On the third image you can pick the location of the installation by clicking on the ... button. Install it wherever you want it to be and then to make a desktop shortcut look at the fourth image. Inside the zip you will also find a font file called msgothic.ttc. If you do not have this file your font will look ugly. To use it, put it inside your C:\WINDOWS\Fonts folder. Below is a before and after with the shitty font and how it's supposed to look. That is all this mini guide covers. Stlbk took all the screenshots and stuff and made a really nice guide for the start but he isn't here because he's a pooploser. Any questions or concerns should be posted here! Most everyone should be in the game somewhere, including people who arn't really around. The game has a lot of stuff so enjoy. Also if you need a world map due to getting lost so much clicky on the spoiler. Spoiler: show |

This is a short guide to starting out the game! I used links to save on loading time, enjoy! - Stlbk
Okay, so you've installed the game and clicked on the little RPG2003 icon to start the game. Here is what you should see. THE DRAMATIC OPENING!!!! So since you're starting a new game, click new game. You will begin the game as the Almighty Kuno, Hero of UPN. And being the goodly hero, you decide to check upon your beloved forums. Apparently UPN is in dire peril! Being the protector of Hana's virginity that you are, you set off to UPN to find out from Prince Talon what is wrong. Before you head out though, let's look at your awesomeness by pressing the (Esc) button. Just to make sure you know what you're doing, here's a basic rundown of controls: Up/Down/Left/Right Arrows: Use to navigate the world map, battle menu, character menu to achieve victory! (ESC) Button: Use this button to access your character menu while in the world maps. Also use this button to go back in menu options. Space Bar/(Enter) Button: Use this button to proceed in any menu and to talk/interact with people/items/walls/tacos? This is the button you will use when you wonder what button will advance your progress. (Alt) Button + Enter Key: Use this to switch to make the UPN game smaller on your computer so you can use your mouse to multi-task! So you've travelled to Prince Talon and found out that vicious Lindsay is running a rampage and turning everyone into GIRLS!!! Suddenly, the terrible witch comes forth and turns you into a red-headed girl!! You were a powerful, well respected individual; now look at you. Your best idea is to go back and talk to Muyo, who aside from being turned into a girl, still has her powers and has a vast knowledge of UPN to help you on your journey (HINT HINT!!!!) It might be advisable to visit her from time to time!!! (HINT HINT!!!!) She notices that you've lost yours powers and takes pity on you. Take your staff and do not forget to equip it! So you have gone through some pretty dramatic things today! Make sure to save your progress downstairs on the blue magic circle! There are two kinds of Magic Circles, Blue and Green. Green circles only let you save your progress, while Blue circles let you heal your party! Also as a side note, if you read the books on the shelves in that room, you will find extremely useful information on your current party. Knowing your party's strengths and weaknesses is important to succeeding in taking down the evil Lindsay! Alright, you're pissed and you're wearing women's underwear...now let's get some revenge!!!! According to Muyo, there was a person in the next town that might help against Lindsay! However, being level 1, you're as weak as a Pidgey... speaking of, maybe you should beat some enemies to level up? Anyways, in the world map of UPN, you encounter enemies randomly: The battle system is an Active Time Battle system (ATB), in which each enemy and character in battle has a time gauge for when they can perform attacks. Also each character has a unique system of attacks. Another thing to remember is to be careful of you current HP/MP. After defeating enemies, you will receive EXP, Loot and possibly items (maybe even secret items?!) Of course if you were unsuccessful at beating the enemy: When you receive a Game Over, you will be returned to the title screen and can restart your game from the last saved point. Sometimes you may run in to enemies that are too powerful. This is why it is so important to SAVE EVERY CHANCE YOU GET!!! Don't be brave-save! So you've decided to fight several battles, level up a bit as you may have to "convince" this person to join your cause. Go in to the PVG Forum, your first town, and investigate your mystery man! Be careful, even in forums as you may not be safe from enemies: As with almost every forum, the PVG forum has an Item Shop for upgrading and as well as an INN for healing/saving! As a reminder, make sure to talk/interact with everything, you never know what you will find: Seems that statue was a doorway to an underground lair?! At the end of the lair you find your perverted perpetrator! Make sure to save and then take no prisoners! Being awesome, even while a girl, you show GrJackass how it's done and he decides to join the party! w00t! Unfortunately he has no valuable information, so you head back to Muyo for help. Upon visiting Muyo again, he informs you that there may be more help and that he will transport you there by walking behind the statue in the lobby. Make sure to save and check out your latest characters before you head out! This is the end of the guide for now, good luck and don't die! If you have any questions or want more advanced help, PM myself or Kuno! Enjoy the game! Last edited by Stlbk; 01-03-2010 at 04:03 PM. |

That Gr guy is so dreamy.
Although I did love the minotaur speach box and then the Blastoise that appeared named Squirtle. |

Jeebus, you guys are quickly catching up to where I am. ;; Granted, I haven't played that much.
Still enjoying the game so far. (Was quite amused by Jeri/Deedee/LC in the Volcanic Mountain.) Decided to stop at BOULDER DASH FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

So...when can we expect the sequel?
Haven't had an opportunity to check it out yet. I will soon, though.

Bloody shapeshifters keep killing me. They're faster, their versions of my moves do more damage/healing than mine, they have moves I don't have on top of the ones I do, they have more health/MP, and after one use of Vicodin on any one of them my attacks do zero to that one from then on.
EDIT the first: Ugh, finished the fight but it was bloody long considering Loki-clone has 500 HP and the max any of the characters can do to him is 10 (Morg and Kuno do zero).

Concept, have you pondered the concept of GRINDAN yet?
Also, one is thoroughly amused at the name of the revival item. Mind you, Rocky was fucking class as well. I can imagine Gyarados is an optional superboss. |

The game was made so you don't really need to grind, but if they have moves you don't yet then you might need to lvl a bit lol. Rocky can be kind of tough but it's not too strong.

Yeah, Rocky was a doss. Levelled from 9 to 11, made the shapeshifters a whole lot easier.

Just got past the Shapeshifters, not had any huge issues with any bosses so far, I'm not that overlevelled but it's been tricky but not impossible. The Shapeshifters I can see would have been hard if you're not good at target priority, take out the easy ones to kill first.

yeah, then straight after that comes Squirtle who can hit double digits in his attacks.
However, if you're good against Rocky and Taunt with Kuno every now and then you should win. Squirtle only has 200 hp, and I believe is susceptible to Morgoth's Poison Powder. If you're still struggling, keep Kuno in the back row as she's taking less damage and GrJackass has the bulk to tank off a couple knocks. Also shove Morgoth to the back, for throwing knives are ranged weapons and she's as defensive as a Shedinja. I'll admit, as soon as I saw Loki's HP and physical stats, I immediately saw her as 'A nerf waiting to happen.' |

Shapeshifters were hard because I was lacking in levels a bit. At level 11, I had all the skills they had and it as pretty straightforward once Kuno-clone was down as long as I kept Gr-clone asleep whilst doing do (it was lengthy due to Loki-clones humungous HP though). Also I was hungover the first time I fought them, which doesn't help. EDIT the first: Ok, wtf is up with Fugly Trees? All my attacks do zero to them. Literally all.
