Dragonair Beauty Contest - Normal Rank I

And we’re up, up and away with our first ever beauty contest where we’ll be pitching some of FBs most beautiful Pokémon against each other in a pageant for the ages. We’re here in sunny Volcanic Mountain where our contestants will be fighting for the most prestigious award a beauty could have; the Normal Rank Beauty Ribbon! And now, to do an introducing session to our wonderful audience, heres;

SP-Eevee and her Altaria, Cumulus
Shadowshocker and his Umbreon, Factor
Stark and his nameless Typhlosion
Silver Wind and his Ledian, Ledah
Mewsic Box! and his Vespiquen, Bumble
And last but not least, PikaGod with his Flareon, Puff.

*Audience applauses*

Now the first challenge is our appeals round. This is where your Pokémon can strut their stuff, with you behind them. Remember to use Italics to chose what field you want to play on. Anything you want in terms of natural terrain can be found, from large rocks to small flowers at the spin of a lever.

And now just a quick reminder as to the scoring:

1st move: 10
2nd move: 10
3rd move: 10
Style: 20
Flow: 20
Beauty (Audience's Reaction): 30

Points will be allocated based on how well your Pokémon does as they appeal to our judges. Remember to visit the Beauty Contest Hall should you need any further rules or shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

And remember, while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you want to impress everyone so while Roleplay is not mandatory, it is encouraged strongly. If you can send me your PMs with your appeals round we can get this beautiful party started.

Todays special guest judge will be House M.D star Olivia Wilde who is promoting her latest season of House M.D

Standing behind the curtains of the Beauty Contest Hall once again, Pepper Jack and his Ledian found themselves waiting to begin their appeal, with Ledah by his side they were going to attempt to win the coveted Normal Rank Ribbon. The competition was sure to be heated, with an assortment of pogies battling for the prize. Pacing back and forth deciding on a stage that would best suit his partners abilities was alot of strain on the brain, and the roar of the crowd wasn't at all to helpful. Looking at the notpad he quickly scribbled down, Pepper handed it to the stage operator before turning his attention to Ledah.

The theme of the stage will be a mid-summers night meadow; with glimmering fireflies set lose to set the mood.
A few tree's and bushes are scattered all around the arena, and the lighting is somewhat shadowed and depressing.

"I never thought we'd make the time limit, but I guess we just squeaked through. Lets try dazzle the audience by starting this contest off with a COSMIC POWER. All that shimmer screams beauty, but we'll need to step it up with your limited move pool. I wouldn't doubt it if that evil TIM BOX were to try to sabotage our appeal. After we've captured their attention with that little doozey, continue with a SWORDS DANCE with a SWIFT COMBO, bringing the whole night theme to a finish.. Sorry pal, I didn't really have much planned for this event.."
The stage is set, quite literally, by Pepper as he keys in his arena, choosing the vivid and spacious meadow; littered with trees of green and gold and wildlife of all kinds. A few Butterflies scatted in the wind as a small beat of wings carries the flying-type into the distance, a never-ending quest to find a mate and settle. As the audience ‘aww’ at the pre-set battlefield, Pepper releases Ledah as the flying-type looks comfortable in its surroundings.

Looking energized and happy, Ledah is quick to rehearse its appeal and although not practiced, the 75 Beauty Points and the setting of the arena help the crowd and the Pokémon. With both holding their breath to see the final outcome, Pepper and the audience wait silently, intrigued into the Ledian’s moves.

As a small gust blows through the arena as the room fills with a light pink aura, the psychic energy calling from the heavens. With Ledah in the centre, the crowd ‘oooh’s and ‘aaah’s as the Ledian begins to turn the same colour. Mysteriously granting a new power, the move instantaneously shows off the COSMIC POWER that the Ledian has.

Moving swiftly on, the Ledian begins showing off its DANCE moves, repelling some of the loosened leaves on the ground by the power of SWORDS, spinning on the spot as the audience get drawn in, expecting something big to come from the Ledian to follow the amazing start. As the move begins to slow, Ledian opens its mouth SWIFTly sprays a impulse of stars. As the stars hit the trees, they explode before sprinkling small star dust on the floor. Bowing to the crowd, Ledah and Pepper leave through the curtains as the judges confer before revealing their score on the LCD TV.

Total Score: 34 / 50

Judges Notes: A good appeal, but the last move kind of let you down. With such high-powered moves at the beginning, the audience were really expecting a grand finale at the end. The first move complimented the arena by refracting the pink / purple against the dark wood, but the next two didn’t much. The swift could have been ordered to be placed higher so the dust could fall down more instead of a rather low down.

Appeal: "Alright Bumble, I want you to enter through the treetops, gracefully flutter down while spraying a dazzeling Silver Wind above you so that when you reach the floor, the silver dust will sparkel around you. When you reach the floor and the Silver Wind surrounds you, take the opportunity to Captivate our audience. Dance among the beautiful silver speckles and then I want you to start rotating. While rotating, use X-scissor to cover you in a bright yellowgreen light. Frolick amongst the huge trees for a bit, then slowly land in the middle of the forest, take a bow, and that will end our appeal." Tim explained to the excited Bee. "Good luck!"
With the first contest appeal over and done with, the audience are certainly willing to see more as Tim keys in his own arena. With a vibrant woodland, the audience compare the bright colours against the previous dark woodland. As Tim bursts through the curtains from the competitor’s room, the Pokéball is thrown revealing a very beautiful Vespiqueen. With her trips to the Pokéspa so apparent, the audience certainly look pumped as the round gets underway.

As the queen bee gathers the confidence to start the routine, it begins by slowly rising from its pokéball. Starting the move off, Bumble beats its little wings as a small gust of wind is formed. Shooting the SILVER WIND into the air, Vespiqueen waits as the move sprinkles down on her. With the move complete and the entire audience watching closely on Bumble’s progress, the bee-Pokémon uses a CAPTIVATE to draw the audience in even more. With the alluring bumblebee shooting hearts out, the crowd go wild.

Expecting a grand finale, Bumble proceeds to charge bug energy into its, somewhat small, claws and shoots it up into the air. As the lemony-green attack flies into the air, the move doesn’t seem to break and glitter like Tim had hoped but hits a branch, releasing a large cluster of leaves that fall down. Fluttering over, the crowd murmurs with consideration, realizing that the attack was splendid, even if not meant. Taking her bow, Bumble and Vespiqueen head back through the curtains to the competitor’s zone as they wait for the Judges’ judgement.

Total Score: 35 / 50

Judges Notes: A very good appeal indeed. While the moves were most defiantly thought out, many attacks don’t glitter unless you break them yourself with another move, and instead carry on as a hard move until hitting something. This did lose you a few marks but aside from that it was a very good appeal indeed.

The stage had been set. It wasn't like this was the first contest Stark had ever been involved in. It was just that this was a contest he wasn't exactly the type of contest that fit him or his partners. Still, the experience he would gain and learn from was far too valuable to pass up. Plus it's not like they were completely fish out of water. They just needed to be smart about how they went about their appeals.

The time had come for them to make their entrance and the trainer hoped that things would work out well for them. He had decided to wear his long red coat over a black shirt, black pants, brown belt, and hiking shoes. Not exactly the most beautiful outfit, but considering what his other outfit looked like, he didn't have much choice. Besides, as far as he was concerned this competition was more about Typhlosion than it was about himself.

"Now then, here's how we're going to play this," he said to his partner, "We'll need to capitalize on your strengths for the first round. So we'll try to recreate a fireworks display to ooh and ahh the crowd. The setting will be that of night in a well cut grassy field. Once the crowd has adjusted their eyes to the darkness I want you to use your Flame Wheel to roll to the end of the catwalk. When you reach the end fire a weak Ember attack upward while spinning around to give the room a glittering warm feel. You don't want them to impact on anything like the ceiling. Just let them float like fireflies. This will give the audience a chance to catch their breath before the finale. Once the embers begin descending back down and I reach you, wait a beat and finish off with an Eruption. Don't forget to let them see how much fun and childlike wonder you have at the sights you are displaying. After the eruption ends put you paw in my hand and we'll take a bow before quickly walking back off the stage. Got it?"

"Typhlosion," the fire type acknowledged with a nod toward his trainer. Despite being together for so long, this was a new experience for both of them and no matter the outcome, they would be proud of their efforts.

Stark spun the dial to set the atmosphere and looked to his partner with a sly smile and a quick raising and lowering of eyebrows, "Showtime!"
With the extensions of the Pokémon contest carrying on, the crowd begin to await the next contestant as Stark bust out through the curtains. Carrying a pokéball in hand, the trainer throws it upwards as his contest Pokémon, the Typhlosion gets a slight applause, just the 10 beauty points for the fire-type causing a little disappointment from the crowd.

Feeling good and energetic despite the initial setback with the small amount of applause, Typhlosion follows its orders by curling into a ball, using a FLAME WHEEL to convert a mass amount of flames around him. The Typhlosion races to the end of the catwalk as the flames cover its movements. Popping up at the end of the catwalk, Typhlosion instantly releases a small splurge of EMBERS to continue the fire combo.

Conveying the audience into Typhlosion’s moves, the fire-type draws upon a great deal of fire energy to send out a stream of fire into the air. Getting out of the way with childish glee, Typhlosion lets the fire hit the ground before taking a bow before leaving, begging the dawn of the judges’ comments.

Total Score: 41 / 50

Judges Notes: A very, very good appeal. No use of the special arena creator meant that the moves really didn’t fit but that’s ok, only a few points dropped. Quick and snappy, the beauty was clear and the message conveyed.

It had taken them a long time to get to where they now stood; the scientist had even wondered if they might even attain their base destination at all, but now they were finally here. Factor sat at ease, but while the Dark-type had come a long way from his days as an Eevee Shadow knew he was nervous. "Don't worry, Factor. Just act perfectly natural; we both know you've trained well for this. Now, let's just run through the plans again.

"When you step onto the field, just walk naturally, rippling the water surface to give an illusion of walking on water. Nearing the end of the catwalk, though, launch a Water Pulse on the stage to fire a series of converging torrential geysers, then immediately freeze them with Blizzard to form a dome of frozen pillars. Finally, let the ring on your forehead shine with a brilliant Flash; in theory this should create an aurora effect with the ice's refraction."

The Umbreon gently nodded; he put faith in his Trainer even when at times he didn't do so much in himself. He knew he could do this, and he would to the best of his ability."
While slightly nervous, Shadow and Umbreon are set to carry on, with not a moments respite for the excitable fans among the beauty contest fanatics. With the 90 beauty points attained from numerous trips to the Pokéspa, the crowd seem to enjoy the look of the eeveevolution as they await its move. Before the contest begins, the trainer keys in a few numbers as the expert technology arena changes to reveal a reflective water surface, a small barrier preventing overspills while remaining transparent.

Beginning the contest round with an approving nod from the judges, Umbreon begins walking much like a beauty pageant contestant, strutting along the reflective water before getting to the end. While the appearance of walking on water was indeed not something the crowd picked up on, the suspense of the first move keeps their eyes on the Umbreon. Continuing with the ordered appeal, Umbreon fires a large WATER PULSE at the floor to create a massive splash of water. Quickly reacting with no space in the middle, Factor then releases an ICE BEAM to freeze the water in its place. While the water settles in a dome, Factor jumps in the middle of the frozen bowl before FLASHing a beautiful light yellow colour around the dome, reflecting the light throughout the stadium. With its appeal finished, both Shadow and Factor take a bow before heading back-stage where the await the Judges.

Total Score: 39 / 50

Judges Notes: Indeed, another good appeal. The feeling of walking on water wasn’t quite shown and you lost a little on that. Nothing major for losing, just some technicalities like it being a little wait for the first move to come and that Factor had to jump into the bowl and before, the audience ahead couldn’t see it due to the water being in the way.

"First off I want you to use a Sand Attack and throw the sand into the air. Then as it's falling I want you to use a Flamethrower on the sand to convert it to glass and then use Heatwave to get rid of the last of the sand/glass. And make sure to strut your stuff while you do so."
Moving from water to sand, the next contestant keys in a sentence before the field change. As another Eeveelution follows, the audience become very impressed with the full beauty stats from Flareon as the crowd look on with angst. With Flareon and Karmas nodding in agreement over the orders planned backstage, the contest fans await the moves.

Quickly moving as the Flareon struts its stuff, one paw comes down to the sand in a scooping motion; the resulting SAND ATTACK throwing up sand grains from the desert floor. With reactions similar to Umbreon, the Flareon uses its natural heat to burst a large FLAMETHROWER from its maw in attempts to convert the sand into glass.

As the audience looks on, they are soon disappointed to see the sand not turn into glass. With that out of the way, Flareon moves onto a HEATWAVE which, due to the previous heat from the flamethrower, eventually converts it to glass. With the pretty glass falling on the floor with a slight thud, the Flareon bows before heading back into the back room.

Total Score: 21 / 50

Judges Notes: Unfortunately, the plan that you had ordered didn’t work. As sand needs 3360 °F, the only Pokémon that is currently able to do this is the most recent one, Magmortar. Being a Pokémon that lives in volcanoes and being a triple evolved Pokémon, Magmortar can only just reach 3,600 degrees F in a fireball, let alone a flamethrower. Had it maybe been a Fire Blast it would have had a much better chance at turning it to glass, but was still shaky.

The edges of the catwalk are covered in a soft-fluffy sky-blue cloud-like substance which has a reasonable colour contrast, when put beside something which is pure white this contrast becomes apparent. The surface is soft and fluffy but not so much that it causes the walker to sink into it. Feet are still visable even with the soft-ness of the material covering the walk. This giving the stage a light-fluffy feel to it. The center of the wlak however is pure white.

It would take a miracle to win here, the girl thought rushing up to the contest registration, scribbling the required details and heading forward to the waiting room. She wasn't much of a co-ordinator, albeit she'd won two ribbons previously, a combination of a good portion of luck and the vigor of her companions, no skill on her part other than the poffins and pokeblocks which were insignificant in comparison to the other main factors. Though she had to relax, no point preaching something she didn't practise herself. This was just a friendly contest, just for fun. That's all.

The small floating cloud-like Pokemon floated around the dragon-type's head, grinning wildly as he used his 'expertise' to examine the birds plumage. The second avian, the one that was certainly not entering the contest, seemed less interested in the contest itself but more interested in perfect her patented cheer. Flailing about recklessly, jumping from foot to foot with her chipper cry. Cumulus smiled, seemingly enjoying the company of her two excentric friends relaxing her somewhat. Her trainer was having no such luck, pacing the waiting room franticly in hopes that inspiration would somehow hit her in regards to their first appeal. The appeal that was due to start very soon.

"Got it... I hope," she whispered, coming to a hault which caused the small Delibird who had been imitating her constant pacing on the past 'two circuits' to fall right down on her butt. Sitting herself down she looked to her trainer and then to the dragon-like bird. Hopefully this would do the trick, something not too overdramatic for the first round yet still enough to showcase the avians skills and cloud-like plummage.

Leaning down to the fluffy avian she communicated her plan as the other two Pokemon floated near to listen in, "Okay Cumulus, I have confidence in you, just relax. I know this is the kinda thing you enjoy but please, don't get too serious about it. Jun and Delibird are rootin' for you so do your best! We'll keep this simple are remember, play on your modest nature throughout your performance, your expression should reflect that. As you approach I want you to begin a Bulk Up with your wings spread apart, walking directly in the center letting them blend in with the surrounding terrain whilst contrasting in colour. We need something to show your own visual appeal whilst you walk down there so it should fit the bill... I hope. Now when you get to the end of the catwalk I want you to lift your wings suddenly, letting loose a Heatwave into the air above you. It should create a good primary attack to get the crowds attention whilst heating the air above you if we're . With the increased heat send a Blizzard upwards. Hopefully it will result in a nice sparkling effect, the heat shouldn't be enough to cause steam in any case though it should look fine either way. Exit under the effects of the Blizzard, if it causes the desired effect that is and be sure to make sure your plumage from the Bulk Up is prominent throughout. I'm not sure exactly sure how it'll work but hopefully we'll be able to hold our own at the very least. So, good luck."

Jun gave one last grin to his friend whilst Delibird gave her a good luck fist-pump.

"You two'll have to wait on the wings ... p-un-intended...," Kelly added turning her attention to the Ice and the Normal-type. "There's a TV there so you'll be able to see the action directly." With that, they were off, she had faith in Cumulus, though she didn't exactly have that same faith in herself.
Coming from two contest wins, Kelly and Altaria get themselves ready as they key in a few coordinates as the field changes once more. From sand to a fluffy sky-walk, the field transforms as the crowd murmurs in agreement, once again impressed by the full contest stats.

With the stage set and the contestants ready, Cumulus begins as the audience watch. Moving into the clouds, Altaria toughens up in front of the crowd, BULKING UP suddenly as it becomes focused on physical attacks. As some of the closer fans really appreciate the blending of the clouds and altaria, some further back struggle to understand the movement, seeing very little of the Altaria. As it gets to the end of the catwalk, Cumulus lifts its wings above the clouds and releases a HEAT WAVE, the red flames insde the wind replicated what a cloud can do.

With the audience intrigued by the heatwave’s effects, they are given little time before the next attack comes in, the resulting BLIZZARD spraying all over the sky. As the attack hits the warmer after effect of the heat from above, the snow begins to heat up and fall gently, the sparkle of the liquid as Cumulus takes a bow before leaving, ready for the judge’s decision.

Total Score: 42 / 50

Judges Notes: Another good appeal. The only thing that really let you down in terms of moves, the point of contests is to show off your Pokémon and blending her with the clouds could be done better. Had it been a grey cloud to represent rain and she blended in to turn it to a happy cloud among depression, you could have received more points.

And this means our four semi-finalists are…

Kelly and her Altaria; Cumulus

Stark and his Typhlosion

Shadow and his Umbreon; Factor

And Tim with his Vespiqueen; Bumble!

Now this round will be a bit different. All four of you will be on an unbreakable marble floor as you each walk forward with one move each per round. The semi-finals will contain three separate rounds where you each PM me your attacks.

There is a twist however. If you wish, you can jam your opponents through the use of jamming moves. You are also allowed to chose your opponent who you wish to target, which means that every competitor needs to be wary.

Contestants will receive DOUBLE points if they complete a round without being targeted. Constant jammers need to be aware as any jams unsuccessful (through moves such as harden etc.) will lose the beauty points they gained through the moves use and will be added on to the defendants hearts.
Got it? Good. If not, feel free to shoot me a PM and i’ll try to explain it again. Now, your PMs please.

First to move because of her having the most points is Cumulus. As the Altaria wobbles onto center stage to show off her beauty, a decisive Overheat bursts from her feathers as she opens her wings, the red flames streaming upwards as the intense heat causes the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ of the fans. As Cumulus finishes the move, she looks a bit more nervous around the other competitors, signalling that she may be more easily startled.

With the second highest points, Typhlosion walks onto the stage to replace the cloud-Pokémon. As the fire type growls, its hand begins to glow a faint crimson colour before the Typhlosion uppercuts the air, sending embers of the resulting Fire Punch into the air, a beautiful display of power and beauty combined.

Third to be on the stage, Shadow’s Umbreon cockily swaggers onto the marble flooring and takes the safer option, sending a spiral of Silver Wind into the air to coax the safety onto itself. While this is a rather small appeal in terms of the others, the chance of stealing points is still to come.

Lastly, Bumble buzzes onto the scene with a wink, Captivating the audience by showing off its curves in an attempt to make itself the center of attention. While the fans don’t react by giving extra points for beauty moves, the bug does succeed in getting itself some love hearts.

With nobody targeting anyone with blocking moves, all contestants get double the points they would normall get! As such, here are the scores on the doors.
