Damn, at least you unlocked a ship. I can't even get through a game without dying. I think the farthest I made it was the last sector, but then I got killed. This was on easy, mind you.

You unlock a ship at sector 5. I didn't even get to the last sector though. If I go the heavy defense investments early on, I can't shoot down guys with really tough shields (2+ shields). If I go offensively, I can't take hits.

And yes, I know Missiles and Bombs go through shields, but fuck they miss a lot and then you're out of ammo and you have no answers for anything. I literally had a 18 minute battle with 40ish bombs and even a teleporter invasion that FAILED.

Beat! Star Ocean: First Departure:
~18 hours
Finally got around to finishing this game, I've had it for over half a year now I think. It wasn't too long, which in retrospect I was really happy about because it meant that I wasn't spending ridiculous amounts of time trying to get through a game. The gameplay was pretty fun, I could mash the X button during trash mob battles, and at the same time I could do a little experimenting with the different play styles of the characters. The story was alright, for the most part it made sense, and it only really began to fall apart towards the end of the game, but for what I gather it was done better than in the original version. I still need to go back and play this like two more times to have a chance at actually getting all of the characters, but I think that I will wait a little while before I tackle it again.

Super Mario 3D Land
- 6 hours 11 minutes
Played entirely in 2d lol. This was alil load 'o fun! Not to hard not to soft, each level felt different from the last ala DKCR3D so basically yayness! I had stocked up over 150 lives by the end but I did die a whole buncha times to, mainly to me being dumb. The things I didn't like or get used to was how slow Mario ran an how short a length he could jump. Could be a perspective issue or me just being to used to classic Mario's. Also I never did get a good hold on doing his backflip but thats nitpicking since it prolly wasn't ever needed in the first place. On the brighter side again are Star Coins! They were hidden in some real crafty places but I still found 'em all myself! Seems like there's something extra waiting in store for me but I'll look into another time. As for the main game, good stuffs!

I dunno it kinda got annoying after awhile. Wish it had day/night variations or ones based on which continent you're on.

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story
This was a fun little game. I just wish everything didn't tie into the main character's father. No matter what you do, your father did it before...atleast according to the choices I've tried out. Also this game required an irritating amount of grinding. You had to beat about 50 enemies every weapon for it to work effectively, and mystic stones were a pain in the ass to find, especially since you needed a bunch of them. Despite my bitching, I still enjoyed the game.

Get:

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl
I still need to go through 4 but....fuck it. I'll give this a shot! This game seems to have added a bunch of features to make Etrian Odyssey more appealing to more casual players. It also seems to have an actual story! Even better is that if you don't care for the set characters, then you can just make your own party like you could in the previous games. Also, the image cover is adorable.

Get: Dead or Alive: Dimensions (3DS)

I don't own a 3DS. But Dead or Alive: Dimensions was my first must-have title that they released for the console, and it wasn't a question of if but of when I would get one.

So how much did I pay for it? Well, not $29.99, I can tell you that. I had seen a used copy at Best Buy for $17. This seemed like a fair price to me for a used 3DS game, but I didn't like that the game was wrapped up in Best Buy plastic wrap, preventing me from being able to see inside the box and see what condition the manual was in (or if it was even included!). So I decided to go on eBay and see what I could find there.

eBay had someone selling a new copy for $19.99, auction-style, free shipping and someone else selling a "like new" used copy for $15, buy-it-instantly-style, $3 S&H. Armed with these, I decided to go back to Best Buy and haggle with the manager. Get him to agree to open up the box and let me peak inside or else no sale and I'll go with the eBay guy instead.

I end up going to GameStop first, because I'm curious to see if they have any copies available and because I know that they at least will let me examine the merchandise prior to purchase. The GameStop employee at the mall tells me that the game is $12.99 in their system, which is four dollars less than Best Buy's, but unfortunately the only store in the area that has the game (not his; another one 5 minutes' drive away) has only one copy ... and it's just the cartridge, no manual, not even a box. So I tell him thanks but no thanks and head off to Best Buy.

I get there ... and they've completely reorganized their video game section. The copy of DOA Dimensions I saw last Sunday is no longer present ... nor are any of the other used games. Damn. But lo? What's this? :o I've found the used games after all! And do they still have DOA Dimensions for $17?

Spoiler: show

They still have the game ... and for nearly half off what they were offering it for not even three days ago.

I asked them if I could see inside. The floor rep actually went and asked her manager, and after five minutes of talking to him, she came back with the verdict: "No, but you'll have 15 days to return the product if you find that it isn't satisfactory." And with that assurance in hand, I decided it would be worth dropping the $10.69 to find out and, if all's well, be the proud owner of my second Dead or Alive game I don't own the video game console to. ^^;

I still don't own DOA5 though. I should probably get on that ... ¬_¬; [/buying games for consoles you don't own] Someone want to buy me DOA5 and a PlayStation 3?

... oh wow, I am so out of the loop. A, I didn't realize that it's already been a solid year since DOA5 came out. And B, I didn't realize that DOA5 Ultimate was a thing. Maybe this means I can get a copy of DOA5 for cheap now that it's already yesterday's news ;o ... So! Anyone wanna buy me DOA5:U and a PlayStation 3?

I was worried I'd never get a deal this good again in the next few years. I can't imagine new or like new copies of the game dipping much below $20 (with S&H) on eBay, and this was half that. At "only" $10, I had to go for it. And I don't think that was the wrong decision either since the entire city of Lafayette+WestLafayette only had one copy of this game in all four or five of its GameStops ... and it was a boxless, manualless copy.

But yes, the hope's to get a 3DS or 2DS in the near future. We'll see.

Put on hold:

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl
I stopped playing this because it started to get boring, and Pokemon was more appealing. I'll (maybe) pick this back up when I have nothing else on my plate. I mean, the fact that this game isn't as ruthless as the other games is 50/50 with me. Bosses aren't as fun, but it makes dungeon crawling less tedious. I like some of the new features it added, because it's not as tedious as the other games. I just don't feel like my characters are going anywhere in terms of skills.

Pickup:

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness
I'm so fucking retarded. After never completely beating a Disgaea game, I go and buy this. Admittedly I like Disgaea for the characters and the combat. I wonder how long I can go after the main story before putting it down. Though one plus is that the opening is pretty kick ass.

Like DQVIII this was my first time replaying the game an it didn't disappoint! I spent lotsa time doing optional stuffs an I ended with a whopping 88.52% completion rate! Theres lots ta do an pretty much all of it works well an is fun like newspaper delivery! The main downsides are mashing X to move faster, story being kinda rushed towards the end, an some technical hiccups like stalling when trying ta get on a vehicle. I also didn't like how if ya do something bad (even accidental like running someone over with your bike) the authorities instantly know this even if none were around beforehand. I get that you're not supposed ta be bad, but spawning "enemies" ontop of your head is a jerk move in any game! Classes are fun except Shop cause thats an exercise in memorization since the only ways I could pass was by twirling the analog stick in the right direction before the prompt appeared. Wish there had been some more classes since 6 seems small an I had finished 'em all by Chapter 3. Where the game unarguably excels is both music & atmosphere! I read that each student & school employee has their own name & unique face an maybe even personality. That's some Shenmue stuff right there! It may not apply to places beyond the school but even so theres lotsa different looking an sounding people out there. The way seasons pass as you play, an nice weather effects like how once during a bike race a thunderstorm began! Very memorable locations and nice enough graphics for me! Giving wedgies, pinching butts, making out with boys & girls, changing Jimmy's hairstyle and all buying all sorts of clothing for him, starting food/snowball fights, pulling fire alarms, tripping people with marbles... gah there's to much! If there was ever a western-made game I had ta gush over this'd be it. Classic!

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness
So I went to see how long it would take for me to get tired of this after beating the main story, and for the first time, I started getting tired of it after chapter 5 out of 10! Though I stomached my desire to do other things, and beat the game. The story is just so dull and uninteresting. I know it usually is, but the fun cast of characters usually make up for that. Sadly the formerly awesome trio of Laharl, Etna, and Flonne just didn't shine this game. Etna's next episode previews were amusing, but that's about it. Flonne was great, but she didn't shine until the last two chapters, and unfortunately she was MUCH better in Disgaea 4. After beating the game, I got fed up almost immediately. I tried grinding to a decent level and doing stuff, but it was unbearable like always. Even sadder is the fact that there's a cheat shop to triple my exp, but even at triple exp, it takes forever to get to a decent level!

After playing through Pokemon Y, I decided to revisit the best DS Pokemon game I remember, Heartgold.

Bioshock
I picked up this game on a whim since it's really cheap ATM. I had heard tons of good things about it when it came out and ever since, especially with all the hype Bioshock: Infinite got a little while back. I'm not much for shooters or horror games, so I wasn't expecting to love this that much, but after the first few levels, I was hooked. I don't really know how to comment on the gameplay. It was fine and functional and not horribly challenging (though I was playing on Easy/Normal) and the mechanics were interesting enough. But the thing I thought was the best was the aesthetic. You really felt like you were in the midst of a ruined art deco dystopia, and the eerie, omega-cast-driven plot contributed even more to the feeling of it. The thing I liked the most was the attention to detail when it came to establishing the setting, especially in using era-appropriate music to create a fantastic contrast between the rotting ideals of Rapture and the initial, misguided hope that built it. I'm excited to play more Bioshock games, and likely will be picking up 2 and Infinite within the next month or so.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
I'm skeptical on whether or not this would be good or not, but I figured why the hell not? I mean, it's a sequel to a game over 20 years old, so it's difficult to believe the creators could do more than make a poor impersonation of things from it. Another fear is that this game seems like it'll be really short. After an hour of playing, I have already done most of the opening scenes, and beaten the first dungeon (it was like 15 minutes long). Despite my pessimism, I'll keep an open mind and hope for the best! I should probably just treat this game as a standalone Zelda game though.

Get:
DLC Special case of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

I already finished the main game, and as any fan I wanted more... but I was still hesitant to get it, since I thought 6$ was a bit high. But I bought it anyways, thinking that it is actually an ok price if you think that the actual game is about 30$, and there's 5 chapters in there... X) Anyhow, I'm already a few minutes in, and I got treated with a good monologue from Phoenix where you can hear clearly his sexy voice, a anime cutscene, a reference about Phoenix being a hobo, and tons of fish puns. I already do not regret buying it.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
As I feared, this was about as long as A Link To The Past. Like Pokemon XY, this could have been much better if they spent a little more time on it....though I guess that could be said about any game! Basically it's kind of rushed, and I couldn't really get into the story. Also the last dungeon was a letdown. I was expecting a nice clever mixed requirement of every weapon. Other than that though, it's a fun game. They do some really neat things with the above camera view. There's even some moments where the most annoying monster in Zelda history helps you! The item system is nice too. I also liked the twist with the merchant at the end of the game. Also as I expected, alot of this game is nostalgia. There's old music, old enemies, and old characters. This is a good game, but it could have been great.

Beat: The Walking Dead (12 hours including the DLC)

Finally got around to playing this after having it in my Steam library for several months. It's probably the most intense game I have ever played and I pondered nearly every decision I made even way after it had been made. The DLC is pretty good, but not as engaging as the main story. I would highly recommend this game.

Okay. Since last month I bought Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition, Dark Souls, and XCOM: Enemy Within. Despite them all being great games, I've only been playing one game: Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate. I am creeping up on 400 hours played. I feel bad that I bought those other games >>;;

Beat: Portal

Nice game, very creative puzzles. When I first started playing I had trouble wrapping my mind around the whole concept, because I could not figure out where the hell the portals went to. Sometimes I would peer into the portal and see MYSELF, and at that point I was just tripping balls!! I eventually figured out that it was a simple entrance portal, exit portal concept and was on my way. I don't like games where I have to think too hard, because I'm not that smart, so sometimes I'd come across a new room and say, "That's it, I'm done. This looks way too hard, there's no way I'll be able to figure this out" but I managed to solve all the puzzles without any help. About 3/4 of the way through the game I was finally comfortable enough with the portal gun that I felt like I could solve anything they threw at me.

The humour was all right, but I wonder if the game would have been better if they went all out and made the game a dark horror thriller, played up the mystery aspect, and the crushing feeling of isolation. I had this feeling already with some of the creepy graffiti, and wondering when I was going to meet a real person.

I thought the companion cube thing was a poorly executed joke. It had a lot of potential if you had to use it for a very long time, and they actually made you feel like you went through hell with the thing. I've become attached to objects in games before, but I used the companion cube to complete mundane tasks for what, 10 minutes? I didn't feel guilty about it at all. I thought the battle droids were the most moe things in the game ...

I remember my first playthrough I also threw away the Companion Cube without batting an eye. The second time though I had stepped away and then I heard new lines from GlaDos and became quite intrigued by the concept of the Cube. Add in the later graffiti of it and GlaDos' talk about it, it actually became quite interesting thinking about how in this empty world, your only friend is an inanimate box.

Also, this video helps:

Radiant Historia
I saw a preview to this, and it seemed interesting, so I decided to give this a shot. I mean, multiple endings, traveling through timelines, and a somewhat unique combat system. It's enough to catch my attention! This was a good play....for about 10 hours, then it started getting stale. The combat can be a chore, since your characters' turns are jumbled up, when you're required quite a few to effectively fight. Thankfully encounters aren't random, and you can avoid them pretty easily. For the story, it's interesting but not great. I like the villain's motives more than anything.

Playing:

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
I got this for free on my DS when I bought A Link Between Two Worlds. Thankfully I missed out on this between Seasons and Ages, so it's a good opportunity to play this.

The words "This was the most disappointing Zelda game I have ever played" would about sum this up best. It had so much potential, for a lot of the reasons birtha already gave. But frankly, it is not even remotely a challenge to get everything in the game done. It just THROWS things at you in the most obvious fashion possible. And even if you don't have any freaking clue how to play Zelda, you get the Hint Glasses early as all hell in the game (which I never had to touch, but still), and there is literally a Hint Ghost for everything. It's like they just didn't even try to make things difficult.
