Mouse not working.

Hello everyone how are all of you today? I am alright, but one problem has been frustrating me to no end tonight. Few minutes ago my wireless mouse stopped working on me while I was in the middle of doing stuff on my computer. Then I checked it's battery, and see if there was anything inside the mouse causing it problems. Neither of those things had any problems.

I tried my mouse again, and it still does not work. I plugged in my standard mouse (one that has a cord), and yet it will not respond. Is there anyway to avert this problem, and how abouts can I amend it? In case your wondering, I am using my parents computer downstairs, and it's mouse works just fine (since we share the same internet connection, I was seeing if it was some virus on their machine or from mine that might of messed up the mouse.)

Thank you for your time, and have a nice day.

Re: Mouse not working.

You say you used two different mice on the same machine. Though that's a pretty good indicator it's the machine's fault, you need to finalize the test by taking the "culprit mouse" downstairs to your parents' computer and seeing if it works on that. If it does, then we can confidently rule out the mouse and begin to see whether it's a problem with your serial/USB port on your machine or if you have a virus or if (somehow) you accidentally messed with the mouse's settings.
  1. What websites have you visited in the last 3 hours? (Be honest with yourself if not with us.) Porn? Hentai? Warez? Ask yourself if you've been to sites likely to harbor viruses.[/*33ec9]
  2. Have you tried using your mouse on a different port (if your computer has multiple ports, e.g. 2 USB ports)? Try that. If your mouse is a serial mouse but your parents have a Serial-to-USB adapter, be sure to try that out so you can test your mouse on your computer using USB ports.[/*33ec9]
  3. If you're pretty sure it isn't a virus, and if trying different ports does not work, see if you can go into the computer's main settings for the mouse and see if something has been disabled or changed. (Windows Key -> Control Panel -> Mouse)[/*33ec9]

Re: Mouse not working.

I took your advice, and accessed mouse settings. Apparently it says the mouse is still enabled, and none of the options have been changed around at all. I will try it on my parent's machine here in a few minutes to see if it will work.

Re: Mouse not working.

I would really advise you (if you can) to plug it in to a different port. If you own a USB mouse, this is easy as most computers come with no fewer than 2 USB ports. If you own a serial mouse, it should not be difficult to find a Serial-to-USB adapter in your house as most mice sold in the late '90s and early '00s came with these adapters. (I personally have two and my family has one of their own, totalling 3 for four people.)

Re: Mouse not working.

I reinstalled a old wire mouse that came with my computer, and it started to work after me and my bro fiddled with it's settings. My wireless mouse still does not work, but I am going to buy a new corded mouse with a wheel tomorrow. Thank you Talon for your advice, and if we ever meet remind me to buy ya something as my way of saying thanks.
