Machamp Rugby (Union/League)

Fffffffffffff

... said the Englishman.

Anyway, this thread is for the discussion of Rugby Football, both Union and League because I don't care that much about the differences and they're both pretty cool sports. Discuss teams, national and international, discuss differences between the two and your experiences of playing!

Good sports, sports players!

Ha I was totally considering making a Six Nations/general Rugby thread having spectacularly forgotten to do it the last two years.

So!

England pulled a Wales - Completely failed to get going for the first half of the match, picked up the pace in the second half but not enough to snatch the win from France, who somehow managed to utterly lose motivation in the second half, probably complacency.

As for Wales, while the win over Italy was expected (as ever), they too stank of overconfidence and should have had won by a much wider margin. That said, the Italians have been improving every year (I look forward to seeing how they do in 18 months time), and have much stronger defences than before, they're definitely becoming a threat.

Predicting a comfortable Ireland win tomorrow.

Please, learn to Rugby.

Yeah I suspect this is going to be a fairly traditional Six Nations. Wales and Ireland dick all over everyone, England and France fairly close behind, Scotland disappoints everyone once again and the entire continent asks why Italy is even involved in this tournament.

Also, I edited in a humping Machamp post icon because lol scrums.

Annoyingly Scotland were actually playing good defensive Rugby all through the first half, only conceding a try just before half-time and scoring a penalty just after it.

Then Ireland kicked into gear and blew them away, which was a shame.

>Kush

Don't be so sure - France got the wooden spoon last year and would've lost yesterday if they didn't cow England with that early try. And Italy are improving every year.

So, predictions for this weekend:

Wales/Ireland should be interesting, always is. If Ireland keep up the momentum from the second half of the Scotland game they will probably take it, but Wales have habit of coming back in the second half too. Predicting a narrow Welsh win with a score in the high teens or low twenties.

As for the Calcutta Cup... England did alright against France but if they lost to Scotland then something's seriously up. Scotland can't afford to just crumble like they did in the second half against Ireland, but they probably will and England will pick up on it and run rampant. Guessing at a comfortable English win here.

The Europe Derby will be a good watch. I think Italy might take it to be honest, if only narrowly. Might be the most entertaining match of the weekend.

Not sure if undisciplined Wales or hilariously biased ref.

I've had a bias against Italy's sports teams ever since the Zidane vs. Materazzi confrontation in the 2006 World Cup championship game, not gonna lie, so to hear that a brawl broke out between France and Italy in 2014's rugby tournament a) doesn't surprise me in the slightest and b) VIVE LA FRANCE!

There's an old saying that rugby is a sport for thugs that's played by gents, while football is a sport for gents that's played by thugs. It's usually a very different kettle of fish.

But yeah, interesting match that.

Oh France.

Wales, why the fuck couldn't you play like that two weeks ago? Hopefully they'll keep up that kind of pace for two weeks time when I go see them at Twickenham.

As for tomorrow... not sure on either. Scotland and Italy are pretty even, Scotland pretty consistent but Italy improving all the time. Think Italy might take it. Ireland are the only team on course for a Grand Slam but England are performing well so could wrestle the championship away from them. They're at Twick though so I think England might pull off a win.

I'm working all afternoon tomorrow. Might catch the Scotland game depending on how early I finish, we'll see.

So I watched the England Ireland game. First half a classic example of a low scoring game which is still mesmerising. A chance for an early try lost, matched by an Irish chance that should have been taken. The second half was equally excellent, a momentum shift apiece making for an excellent display. A fair score line which I predicted near accurately (I thought a slightly higher English score). Experience vs youth? My arse.

Wish I'd watched the Scotland Italy game as well.

Oh, Italy. You suck so bad.

I'm betting that England will take the win by three points somewhere in the 10-20 range.

I'm more saddened by Scotland snatching defeat from the jaws of Victory.

And yeah I get that vibe too. Obviously I'm going to be in the stands in my red shirt hoping Wales can pull the win but won't be surprised if England get it.

Yeah it's looking like Ireland's to lose. England Wales is looking close at half way, if Ireland wins their last match it's theirs.

That second English try though. Wow.
