NO UR DOING IT WRONG Talon dislikes that it doesn't really seem to fit my impression of the Gentleman trainer class.
The majority of Talon absolutely loves it for a) being beautiful and b) being wonderful. An excellent example of someone thinking outside the box. I love that they saw the Gentleman's cane and thought of some returning veterans' own need for canes. I also love how tasteful it is, leaving quite a bit up to the imagination (did he lose his leg in an IED explosion? did he take a bullet to the hip? other?) and not glorifying any gore (pretty much covering it all up with Arcanine's massive body). I tried to do a reverse image search to find the original artist but was not able to. I did, however, find a larger scale version of the picture: Final verdict: 9 or 9.5 out of 10

Found the source.
Evidently, it's not actually supposed to be a gentleman class interpretation, but actually... John Watson in an alternate universe of BBC's Sherlock. Um... well alright then! ^_^; I personally much preferred the idea that it was a veteran gentleman, so I'm just going to stick with that. However, there appears to be more to the story: |

I love art that tells a story. In my mind that's just the best kind, be it music or pictures, if it tells a story it has that extra thought process and emotion put into it, good or bad, and it just really adds something. These pieces have all of that, and it really adds beauty to it.

You were right about one thing though:
It's definitely better when interpreted against its creator's wishes. XP ^^; I vastly prefer the "story of a Gentleman trainer" interpretation to the "this is my Pokémon x British TV series crossover fanart :3" reality. Maybe that's mostly just 'cause I don't watch Sherlock (not opposed to it; just haven't bothered) and so I can't appreciate the reference there whereas I can appreciate the Gentleman interpretation. But like you say, it tells a story that way. It's like ... "You ever notice how the Gentleman has a cane? Ever wondered why he developed a need for that cane? Here's why." This fanart is definitely making me want to see more "the story behind _____" fanart for various Pokémon characters, major and minor alike. Would love to see things like:

I know the forum's current "no spoilers" rule, but I saw a really, really nice piece from ~February X&Y spoilers that I really wanted to share because it's that good. Please don't put me in time out!

See to me that is just the exact reason that MLP needs shutting down right now.

This guy is fucking incredible. While I don't agree with his artistic interpretations of a few Pokemon (namely the Gengar line and Scyther), he is probably the best "realistic" Pokemon artist I've seen. He has a book with all of his drawings thus far + sketches and Pokedex information on each Pokemon I am actually seriously considering getting. Honestly if Pokemon were real I'd imagine a lot of them would look like his visions of them do. Definitely worth the look. |

Can't say I like any of those, but I agree that a lot of them are probably more like 'real' versions of pokémon.

I really like the Eevee family drawing, and the Mewtwo/Mew. Even though that one is a little on the creepy-looking side. But that is obviously the idea they were going for, and they really pulled it off well. |

Guys, guys!
... I think that guy might like dinosaurs. Like some of you, I find myself not a fan of a few of his creative decisions while quite liking some of his others. Like ... the Gengar line feels awfully forced (I mistook his Haunter for a take on Crobat originally), I don't see why he turned Dragonite into an animal that seems a better fit for Wooper/Quagsire, and it's pretty clear that he's not a fan of Pikachu given how hideous he made it (could've easily made it cuter while still looking like a real rodent-lagomorph hybrid), but I just love his Squirtle and his Venusaur's pretty awesome too.
