Delibird Ridge

"Out of everything that had happened in past few hours, one occurence had yet to cease amazing people. That occurence being the sky. With the sky being the setting to quite a lot of the various locations in the Cloud Garden area, it was the first major change to become widely discussed in the various circles of people living in the surrounding areas. One night several weeks ago, disturbances in the air began to occur across the globe. Worldwide, the sky looked as if it was throbbing with a bizarre energy. At night time especially, it fluctuated in a hue of pink and blue, alternating between the two. According to a news report directly from the Sinnoh region, scientists there believe that the skies could be a direct effect of Dialga, the divine controller of time and Palkia, the pokémon in complete control of space and that these two pokémon would only appear atop the highly discussed Mount Coronet, a vast mountainous range segmenting the humongous Sinnoh region into two halves. When summoned, the two are said to bring with them dangerous side effects to the surrounding region and these effects would appear in other areas in the night sky, primarily. The pokémon spoken of only in legend have only been reported to have appeared once in recent times, when a crime syndicate by the name of Team Galactic planned to take over the world with the two deities, before being handled by a young protegé and Cynthia, the beautiful yet powerful Champion of the Sinnoh league. With the news that the battle would have no adverse effects on the Cloud Garden, a wave of relief overtook the citizens of the areas surrounding and within the clifftops. Little did they know, they would most definitely have their own series of events, directly linked with the events in Sinnoh.

Three nights after the news report, birdesque pokémon seemed to be starting to migrate to the warm cliffs a lot earlier than usual. Bird species not usually native to the area began appearing too and in great numbers. In other regions, various other pokémon were migrating between areas. In the region of Johto, canine pokémon were appearing in abundance around the Ecruteak province and there seemed to be no shortage of rock types in the Hoenn region, something beyond weird was going on worldwide. With each day, the birds multiplied and with more bird pokémon came more bird pokémon enthusiasts. Local scientists even coined a name for the thriving location; Zephyr Ridge. However, it was not going to be long before these fliers revealed their true intentions in the area.

The night the Cloud Garden's series of events began to unfold seemed like any regular night of modern times, the sky was the same as usual, the pink and blue fluctuating light. As it was, people were beginning to lose interest in the new birds colonizing on the clifftops. With this, the events began. Having gathered enough power between them, the bird pokémon began what looked like a summoning ritual. However, it was nothing of the sort. The presence of the bird pokémon was linked in to what the humans called the 'legendary birds'. Three beings; Articuno, the majestic bird of ice, Zapdos, the powerful bird of electricity and Moltres, the bold bird of fire. Though they are usually native to the Kanto region, they have been known to fly great distances and, according to native tales, currently reside deep within catacombs in the nearby cliff faces and would only awake when necessary. The more birds that gathered, the more powerful the ritual became, Pidgeot circled in the skies, screeching loudly and firing powerful attacks at the rocky cliffs. Skarmory sparred on the ground, the noise eminating from their hardy steel wings woke up the deepest of sleepers in the nearby area. It seemed that this would never end, but this night would change everything. After the sun had set deep into the ocean, it began.

The ground groaned and shook, startling both the newly gathered avians and the various clifftop residents. After an hour of quaking ground, the temperature seemed to drop significantly. Pokémon and humans alike huddled together as the usual comforting heat disappeared. It wasn't long before the legends the villagers had been discussing began to try and reinstate their reign over the skies worldwide. That night the first being came. With the drop in temperature, it didn't take much initiative to work out that the being of ice, Articuno, was about to make her stunning debut. Plucky photographers gathered to the cliffs after hearing about the cliffs becoming ice cold, corresponding with legend. This idea was a bad one, the legends were not far wrong in saying the birds would appear and when they did, they would inevitably right wrongs. Articuno was indeed the first to appear, after the temperature drop, the quakes began to increase in power until the ground cracked. However, as the ground cracked, the bird of ice was not the only pokémon to appear with the ground's quakes. The other two legendary birds were not far behind as the cracks unearthed their respective nests within the cliff's arcane tunnel system. With all three birds of legend out of their haven, the havoc began instantly.

As photographers, scientists and historians alike gathered to the surroundings areas in the hopes of a mere glimpse of the ancient pokémon, the bird pokémon began to appear once more. It wasn't long before there was a significantly higher number of bird pokémon in comparison to humans. Unnerved, the majority of people left, realizing that staying would only equate to bad things happening. The remaining people continued with their reports and photography trips, despite the ever increasing birds. Seeing this, the three legends returned to land and roost, but not before challenging the plucky people who hadn't been intimidated enough into leaving. It wasn't long before the three divine creatures and their avian army had gotten rid of the majority of the intruding humans. In fact, all bar one were left. One remaining human, but, unlike the rest, this human was a pokémon trainer. A plucky lover of birds, the trainer had come in the hopes of capturing more bird pokémon for his collection, maybe even have the chance to battle and attempt a capture of one of the three. With the three birds before him, the trainer stood strong. Articuno was first against the trainer's Blaziken. Both pokémon fought well and in the end, it was the fighting chicken that felt the burn, falling short to the sheer power of the ice bird's power of the ice cold wind.

With a close match against Articuno, the ice bird nodded in the direction of the human. Despite the first battle ending in a victory for the legendary, she saw past this and realized the true potential and future of her fire opponent. Not wanting to appear so kind, Zapdos was the next to issue a challenge for the trainer, who cordially accepted. This time, the boy released an unexpected pokémon, a tiny Chatot. Despite the parrot pokémon's size, she put up a great fight against the the legend of thunder. As both pokémon took to the air, the Chatot's attacks seemed to hit each and every time, whereas, when the legend went to attack, the Chatot had the ability to dodge with complete ease. Eventually, after a long and arduous battle, the winner became apparent. Despite its significant advantage, Zapdos fell at the tiny feet of the parrot pokémon, who screeched in happiness before gaining herself a thorough rest in her pokéball. There was only one pokémon left and, as Moltres challenged the boy, he released a large bird pokémon. It was the partially water type Pelipper who flew before the fire legend in a jolly manner. The battle began at once as the fire legend spewed fire in the direction of the pelican pokémon's wings. A direct hit, the Pelipper lost his ability to fly and, reduced to using only the ground, had an even harder battle on his bill. After a rather quick skirmish, several attacks from both pokémon, the Moltres stopped. It was clear to him that he would win the battle and there was no need to impair a several injured opponent any more.

One win, a loss and a forfeit meant that the trainer would now have to face the wrath of all three birds at once. As the three gathered before him, powering their respective powers, Articuno summoning the northern winds, Zapdos gathering static charge from the whole region and Moltres laying low to the ground, summoning up extreme heat from the very core of the Earth. Knowing that he was not going to survive the upcoming group attack, the trainer released all six of his pokémon; Blaziken, Chatot, Pelipper and three more pokémon, a Xatu, a Honchkrow and an alternatively coloured Delibird. The trainer turned to each, offering an apology and a goodbye for failing them before returning to face the beings once more. As the three pokémon completed their ultimate attacks, the trainer dropped to his knees, closing his eyes. Trying his hardest, the trainer clenched onto what scrap of hope he had left and wished. Around him, the atmosphere began to change, one moment it was bitter cold and the next he felt like he was on fire. Opening his eyes, the trainer noticed the three beings had not issued there attacks on him, but at a pokémon. The pokémon had managed to swiftly dodge all three superior attacks and land before the three legends. Squinting through the steam caused by the ice and fire, the trainer noticed what sort of pokémon it was. It was his very own Delibird. With a skip and a jump, the tiny penguinesque pokémon toddled up to the three legends, presenting the three with a well-wrapped gift each. As the legends examined their packages, they looked on his confusion before stabbing at them with their sharpened beaks.

Before the three legendary avians lay three odd gifts. A block of ice that would never melt was lay in front of Articuno, a chunk of old charcoal before Moltres and a black, blue and red magnet in front of Zapdos. Noticing their respective gifts, the bird pokémon nodded towards the Delibird. The three gifts were all the legends had expected. Folklore spoke of legendary pokémon being qwelled by tiny but loving offerings, this event was the perfect example. As the trainer looked on, the three birds departed, flying high into the sky before heading back towards the Kanto region, exhausted by their battles. Having survived such an ordeal, the trainer returned all but one pokémon, the penguin. Dropping to his knees once more, the boy hugged the Delibird close, he had saved him from an inevitable and frankly horrible death. Having witnessed the events from afar, the villagers from nearby areas caught up with the trainer, offering their thanks and appraisal for his protection. Before leaving, the village elder called to the trainer. The events that had occured had changed the area forever and with the change came a completely new name. "Trainer, this area will from now on be known as Delibird Ridge, in your honour." And with that notion, just a polite smile and a sincere bow of the head, the boy left."

"Those were good times, hey girl?" the old man chuckled and, as he did, a pink Delibird leapt onto his lap, snuggling into his armpit and closing her eyes.
