Vog gulped upon setting his eyes on the very large and menacing Metang that loomed over the raiders. He knew he was going to be fighting in a group against something "pretty big" but he hadn't expected that something to dwarf an Onix! His knees trembled even as his allies made themselves known, and he gave each a nervous glance to try and figure out their plan. The Pawniard was eager to go, and the Houndour was another Dark type who resisted the pokemon's steel moves, while the Sandygast had spectral strategies. He meanwhile was just a Drowzee, a pokemon nobody really bothered with, and whose reputation in the region was anything but positive.
However, he had heard Alex's plan from the get-go regarding this adversary: Cripple, then combat. His role would be to try and hinder its movement and to deliver steady strikes while his allies assailed it with their own offensive techniques. The dark types were using their own-type moves on it, which would surely deal some good damage, and the ground type appeared to be readying a ground move of sorts, but as he stood there, unsure, he heard the two words from his trainer regarding his strategy. "Thunder Wave!" Tensing up, the psychic pokemon tapped into his electrical energy, generating a charge between his hands, before taking careful aim at the Metang and letting the discharge loose, eyes closed as he readied himself nervously for the impending follow up assault... --- Opening with a Thunder Wave (0 BP) to try and irk it. "Alright, this should be simple compared to the last time I was here."
For the third time this year, Amicae stood in the courtyard of the NeoKnights Gym before a massive behemoth of a foe. Perhaps it was because she was already familiar with the species of this particular specimen, but she couldn't help but feel like the metang was the least impressive Dynamax Pokémon to claw its way out of the facility's shrine thus far. That very familiarity was what kept her from underestimating its potential, however- after all, these creatures were among some of the most durable pokemon known to man, even by Steel Type standards! The fact that brute force was a tad limited as an option actually served the girl nicely. After the previous month's embarrassment, she had been wondering if she should try to fall back on her tried and true subterfuge-based strategy between Raids- this simply made the choice even easier to make. "Still, perhaps we're playing it too safe this time around?" Ami mused, eliciting an indignant hiss from her champion for this match- a fellow veteran of the Gym's first giant-toppling session. "Okay, you don't have to be so mad about it! In any case, it seems we've got good company this time. It's not often that we cover all of an enemy's weaknesses with just two pokemon, after all." This early in the battle, the safest play was probably the most efficient one in the grand scheme of things anyway, especially since Curse didn't seem to phase beings that were directly bathed in the energy of the Power Spots according to the pre-assault briefings. It was arguably more true now than it was during Cassandra's previous confrontation in the area, since the Iron Claw Pokémon had fewer attacks in its available options that could potentially fizzle out with her Type-based immunities than the aggron did. "Let's keep it simple with Sand Tomb (35 BP)!" |

Max Raid Boss Metang ★★★ Health Gauge: 86% Shields Up: 0 Status: Sand Tomb (1), Paralysis Raid Boss Attack Summary: Attack 1: Metang is Paralysed, it cannot move! Attack 2: Earthquake (100 BP) Median Dia, Sandygast: 200HP Raid Challengers:
The raiders start off in fine style, dealing some nice damage and paralyzing the raid boss. Sandygast sets some damage to occur over time with a Sand Tomb, the constant chip damage was always appreciated. Metang gets off to a slow start, battling the paralysis it fails to launch its first assault! Unfortunately this only serves to make it angry and it gets its revenge by shaking the entire raiding party with an Earthquake! Dynamax Initiative: Median Dia, Sandygast

He couldn't see, so he couldn't be hurt. He couldn't see, so he couldn't be hurt.
A slight cheer caused the psychic pokemon to slowly open an eye to see the results, and to his surprise the Thunder Wave not only landed, but halted the giant pokemon's attack entirely! Well, one of them at least, for the Metang's follow-up earthquake was forceful and knocked the Drowzee to his hind. How undignified, and that stung too! Vog rose to his feet, looking at his allies, expecting them to be judgmental for not attacking, but quite the opposite. Indeed, the two dark types, despite taking a very hard hit, were eager to fight, and the pile of sand seemed to be giving a slight sigh of relief, with only one attack being launched. "Good work Vog, keep up the pressure and start blasting it," Alex called out to him, which made the tapir feel...good, for some reason. He wasn't a frontliner by any means, but to contribute to a fight like that and to stun the boss, even if only momentarily, gave him a bit of a boost. He thought to himself the best attack, quickly rifling through his techniques. Physical moves, out of the question. Psychic, wouldn't do anything. He could try and drop its stats? But what if it had Clear Body? No, he was told to blast, so that meant hitting its weak spot. What was Metang weak to? Fire? Didn't have any of that. Ground? Same deal. Dark? Yes, he did have one of those moves. Ghost? Oh, that could work better. Forming the shadowy lump between his hands, he took aim and launched it at the raid boss, this time keeping his eyes open to see if it landed. --- Time to open up the damage with Shadow Ball (80 BP). Are you ready to see the second largest mass of sand you could potentially see that isn't classified as its own landmass? No? Too bad, it's still Dynamax Time! And for our first (and likely only) trick, we'll use Max Quake based off of Bulldoze (60 BP)! Let's shake the earth without that pesky collateral damage~

Max Raid Boss Metang ★★★ Health Gauge: 71% Shields Up: 1 Status: +1 Atk, Sand Tomb (2) Raid Boss Attack Summary: Attack 1: Max Knuckle (90 BP) Connor, Pawniard: 0HPAttack 2: Rock Tomb(60 BP) Median Dia, Sandygast: 283HP Raid Challengers:
A couple more super-effective attacks successfully force the Raid Boss to throw up its shields. A well timed Dynamax sees Sandygast swell in size before smashing through two of the shields as quickly as they are thrown up. Full of rage, the Metang lets fly with a fist. The powerful Max Knuckle is too much for Pawniard to handle, the Dark/Steel type is left unconscious. A Rock Tomb is pulled up around Sandygast but the not so little sandcastle cares little, shrugging off the hit without too much issue. Dynamax Initiative: Median Dia, Sandygast

The attack landed well enough, and not only that, the orb caused the boss to do something different: it threw its arms up and three shimmering shells formed around it. The Drowzee jumped in shock and braced for impact, but the only impact he felt was the rumble of the ground as the Sandygast suddenly swelled to great size and shattered two of the barriers with an incredible attack.
"It's fine, Vog!" Alex shouted out. "Those are its first shields, it's feeling the heat now. Wait for the Houndour, then blast it again!" First shields? Was that a special abiity it had to defend itself when weakened? But the Metang doesn't seem too badly hurt! No, it must be weary, and trying to give itself a breather, he thought. And his master had ordered him to attack after the Houndour, right? He waited for a moment, and as the small flames touched the last shield, it shattered, leaving the steel type wide open. Now was his chance! Creating another ball, he threw this one at the Metang's face, seeking to get it on its pointy nose...thing, and the Drowzee wasn't as scared of it anymore. Yes, it was very big, but it didn't seem too much stronger than usual. --- Shield's down, gonna blast another shadow ball (80 BP) in its face. Last edited by Raves; 06-14-2020 at 01:30 PM. |

Not sure how relevant boosting our Sp. Def. is gonna be, but it's probably more likely to have some impact that trying to drop its Atk. thanks to Clear Body. As such... Max Quake based off of Bulldoze (60 BP), here we go!

Max Raid Boss Metang ★★★ Health Gauge: 58% Shields Up: NA Status: +1 Sp.Def Healing Connor, Cheer: Sneaze, Houndour: 300HPRaid Boss Attack Summary: Attack 1: Status Clearing Shockwave Attack 2: Max Quake (130 BP) Median Dia, Sandygast: 153HP Raid Challengers:
As Connor cheers to help one of his fellow raiders, Houndour dispatches the final shield lowering the Boss's defences in the process. Sandygast takes advantage, summoning an earthshaking max quake to smash the Metang, as Drowzee pops off another Shadow Ball. No longer wishing to be at the whim of paralysis, Metang releases a shockwave, clearing all statuses and stat changes. Free from its binds, Metang returns serve with a Max Quake of its own, dealing a powerful blow to Sandygast and boosting its Special Defence. Dynamax Initiative: Median Dia, Sandygast

The fight was going smoothly for his team-mates. Even though the Pawniard had been struck down by a gigantic fist attack, they had popped up shortly after, raring to go and attacking with another Dark Pulse. The Metang however prior had landed a powerful quake of its own against the Sandygast, and had used an unusual shockwave move to remove its paralysis. That was cheating, surely! Was it? He had heard from some of his teammates in their talks that raid pokemon had that ability, and that while detrimental immediately, it had some benefits for raiders, notably in removing one of its attacks for the round.
He was preparing to make another attack when he heard Alex call for him to wait, and puzzled on this action he could see the trainer pointing to his head, as though asking him to think. Yes, now he took a brief moment, the boss would surely raise its defences once more, and that quake move seemed to bolster its special defence, which would make it tougher. He thus felt that holding back for a moment to try and raise his own stats could be prudent, and as Vog took a deep breath, he felt as though his allies could perhaps push it to another set of barriers which could be destroyed quickly. --- Going to take a moment to set up a Calm Mind (0 BP) for the next round. |

Max Raid Boss Metang ★★★ Health Gauge: 49% Shields Up: 1 Status: +1 Sp.Def, +1 Atk, + 1 Def Healing Connor, Cheer: Sneaze, Houndour: 300HPRaid Boss Attack Summary: Attack 1: Max Steelspike (130BP) Median Dia, Sandygast: 0 HPAttack 2: Power-Up Punch (40 BP) Connor (Pawniard): 220 HP Raid Challengers:
While Houndour and Pawniard work together to force the Raid Boss to its next batch of shields, Drowzee prepares itself for the rounds to come, boosting its special prowess. Sandygast continues to make good use of its time Dynamaxed and smashes two shields, leaving the raiding party in a rather good position. Metang continues its targeting of the opposing Dynamax, dealing a powerful blow with Max Steelspike which manages to knock Sandygast unconscious! Running a quick calculation, Metang decides its a safe bet to Power-Up Punch, boosting its strength while striking the Fighting weak Pawniard. Dynamax Initiative: Median Dia, Sandygast

As it turns out, taking some time to calm his nerves worked dividends for Vog, the Metang having ignored him, but the retaliatory efforts were detrimental: the dynamaxed Sandygast was felled by a powerful surge of metallic spikes, and the Pawniard took another dangerous fighting type move, one which amplified the steel type's offensive prowess. The Drowzee was deeply concerned, even with one barrier remaining, but that wall was quickly shattered.
"Vog, now's your chance! Start blasting 'em!" Blasting? Oh, right, his Shadow balls should be doing much more damage now, and he seemed confident enough in his ability, especially since his allies were also on the push. --- Hitting with Shadow Ball (80 BP) Last edited by Raves; 06-25-2020 at 05:35 PM. |
