Serebii peeps, I'm working on you ^^.

The Graveyard - Please reply in silver

Itzatrap: Though not the most preferred choice of location for either you or your team mates - except, perhaps, Achilles who is perfectly unfazed at the idea of visiting a Pokémon graveyard - you feel an uncanny need to visit this place. It has taken most of the day for you to get here, but you've finally made it and as you stand at the large iron gates feel a strange sensation that you can't quite recognise. Not fear. Not dread. Whatever it is, you feel that you are meant to be here and so take your first steps into the graveyard, holding Nev reassuringly while Sisyphus, Achilles, and Cadence follow closely at your heels. As the sun sets in the distance, and the sky falls dark, the fabled fog that is said to fall over this graveyard at night begins to roll in. You shiver, but not from the cold, moving on though not quite sure what it is you're looking for. A short time later you hear a howl. A long, sad, mournful howl, the sound of which pulls at your heart for the sheer sorrow it conveys. You hear it again a few minutes later, closer this time as you walk in the direction from which it sounds like it's coming though you can't be quite sure. Finally you hear some soft sniffling, a small yip, and another long howl, and after another few steps the thickening fog appears to part like a veil revealing a jet black marble mausoleum flanked by large black and white marble hell hound statues. Your eyes widen at the sight. Sisyphus whinnies nervously, Cadence caws with surprise, Nev inhales deeply, and Achilles leaps to the ground and sprints over to the little Houndour laying sadly at the bottom of the stairs leading into the large crypt. Houndour doesn't seem at all interested in the Pokémon trying to befriend it, however, and simply lays there, staring sadly into space. Then out of nowhere you hear a strange voice say, "It's no use," causing you to nearly jump out of your own skin. Spinning around you see the ghostly apparition of a boy of about fifteen donned in typical trainer clothing. "Houndour has lost its mother and is waiting here for the one who will bring them both closure. It is a dangerous path, however, relying on the powers of the supernatural. It's not a task just any person can undertake." You look down at Houndour whose sad eyes are now staring deeply into your own, a spark of hope in them. Will you be the one? You have a dozen questions but when you turn back to the boy he is gone, vanished back into the night. Your team mates shuffle nervously. What was all that about? Ghostly trainers, a dead Houndoom, and a large black mausoleum in the middle of a dark and foggy graveyard? You came here looking for something, and whether or not this is what you had in mind this little Houndour pup sure looks like it could use a friend right now...

Pest: Beartic's grunt of surprise is soon followed by a roar of fury when it leaps from the ground to protect its spoils, but luckily it is so focused on the two Snover that it doesn't even notice Pax approach until the Toxic glob the little Eevee spews forth is launched straight down the bear's throat, cutting off its next roar and turning it into more of a gurgle. You wince, impressed with your teammates aim yet totally grossed out. Gawd that must have been foul :/ Pine then responds to the voice calling out, all the while pelting Beartic with a steady stream of Razor Leaves that don't seem to be doing anything more than aggravate the polar bear further. Cone begins moving about in a strange manner and you wonder what it's doing when you notice that his actions are irritating Beartic to the extreme. It is then that you realise Cone must be of a higher level than you'd first anticipated as Swagger isn't learned by very young Pokémon. At the same time, why on earth would it deliberately be riling Beartic up like this especially when it is already injured and doesn't have the strength to take this monster on? It's baffling.

The two Snover yell out to the female calling for them whose panicked voice is now very close. "Hold on! I'm coming!" she cries, the sound of footsteps pounding the cavern floor now audible as she runs to the rescue of her friends whom she can hear are in a great deal of trouble. Beartic is now so focused on Cone's irritating behaviour that it can think of nothing but shredding this troublesome tree to little more than a pile of wood chips. With a Superpowerful burst of energy it launches itself at Cone, the two Pokémon grappling on the floor while Pax and Pine do all they can to avoid being flattened in the process. Eevee throws up a Reflective wall hoping to protect herself and Pine, but the little Snover has other ideas. While Beartic is busy she darts over to its pile of treasure and delves into it, looking for something specific. Little stones and trinkets are thrown left and right while Pine digs through the pile and you hope it doesn't take long for her to find whatever it is so you can all retreat from this cavern of horrors as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Cone is being slaughtered but with Beartic in such close proximity it seems the brave Snover has a plan. It reaches for the gaping wound in its chest and pulls out what appears to be one of its own snapped limbs, flash freezing the small branch in an instant. With its new weapon in hand, Cone stabs the Ice Shard into the side of Beartic's neck! Beartic rears back, its agonised roar echoing through the network of underground tunnels and caves. While Pine continues its frantic search for the item Pax begins to sing, her high pitched voice ringing out into the cavern. Her Round appears as a beautiful vision of red, green, and blue circles growling larger as they approach Beartic who grasps its ears in pain, trying to block out the sound. While it is distracted Cone begins to glow brightly, grass energy accumulating before it moves in and attacks Beartic with Wood Hammer, the recoil damage leaving Cone unable to battle any further. Beartic has taken a pounding but is still standing, leaving Pax and Pine defenseless as round two begins.

But just as you are thinking there is little hope for the four of you a girl comes pounding down the tunnel behind you and into the cavern, skidding to a halt and soaking up the scene in an instant. Platinum blonde hair with green dip-dyed ends that reaches to her waist is the first thing you notice about her, other than she is clad in attire to resemble a Snover. She is wearing a knee length white dress with green sleeves along with the same shade green gloves, in addition to brown leggings and knee high brown boots. An amber chain adorns her neck from which hangs an emerald leaf while a smooth amber bracelet on her left wrist with a small hollow space in it appears to be missing a gem. She runs straight over to Cone and drops to her knees, tears streaming down her cheeks, but as she opens her mouth to speak she gasps as the familiar white glow of evolution surrounds the Pokémon. Your breath catches in your throat while you watch, realising that in this very moment everything is about to change again. As the evolutionary light fades and Abomasnow replaces the little Snover who so bravely fought Beartic, the polar bear roars its disapproval, incensed that so many have invaded its territory. Cone stands up, still somewhat tired, but feeling a whole new level of energy that he's just itching to put to good use...

"Well, looks like we'll have a fun time here tonight, won't we?" the trainer joked, trying to lighten the mood with Achilles replying with a nonchalant bark while Cadance barely chirped a response, and Sysiphus just whinnied in agreement while Snorunt just stayed still in his trainer's arms. Then he hear it, a howl. It was unlike any other howl he had heard before, it sounded...sad. The only other times he heard a howl anything close to this one was when he stayed in a friend's house and his Growlithe howled and barked to be let out of the house to get the neighbor's Glameow who taunted him. This was nothing like it. Could it be that creature emitting this sound is in great pain?

"What was that?" None of the Pokémon were sure what to answer, but something told Rob that they needed to find whatever was making that noise. Cadence chirped nervously as the trainer began to walk towards the direction that he thought the howl was coming from with Sisyphus walking right after her trainer, "It's alright Cadence. We're in this together, and I won't let anything happen any one of you, you hear me?" Cadence replied meekly, but her worry wouldn't be settled that easy.

A few minutes pass as the trainer and his Pokémon continued to walk towards the howling, and they heard it again, "What could it be?" the sadness from it seemed to be infectious as the trainer really began to feel the sadness behind it. It didn't take much longer until Achilles' ears perked up. "What is it, Achilles?" A closer listen revealed a soft sniffling, and a yip, followed by more howling. A few steps later the fog that once covered the trainer and his Pokémon disaapeared, and in front of him a jet black marble mausoleum appeared, with beautiful black and white hell hound statues.

"What the...?" the trainer muttered, and a second later he saw Achilles rush towards what had surprised him. The little fighting type tried to get the attention of the pup thrown on the bottom of the stairs, but it seems something had caused the sad looking pup to retreat to it's own little world as it ignored their presence.

"It's no use," Rob felt his heart stop for a second, as did Candance's, while Sisyphus turned, completely startled as a boy seemed to appear behind them, out of thin air. "Houndour has lost its mother and is waiting here for the one who will bring them both closure. It is a dangerous path, however, relying on the powers of the supernatural. It's not a task just any person can undertake." Rob turned towards the Houndour, who was now staring into his eyes, the sadness in his eyes almost engulfing his, except, a spark of hope also seemed to be present in them. "Wait, what exactly do you mean?" Rob turned around towards the boy again, only this time he was gone. "..." Rob needed a few seconds to try and process what happened, only he had a feeling he wasn't going to be able to fully analyze and make a decision alone, especially when dealing with supernatural beings. "Alright...whatever that was, what do you guys think?" Rob only now noticed that Cadence looked like she had seen a ghost, which they most likely did. "Cadence?" The trainer asked her to which she slowly opened her beak, no sound coming out. "Alright...take a rest, Cadence." the trainer said, withdrawing a Pokéball from his waist. Cadence finally snapped from her trance, shaking her head and chirping in protest, still shaken from what she had seen.

Sisyphus began to walk slowly towards the two canines, with Nev pointing towards them as well. "Well...looks like it's settled," he said as he then approached the pup. He bent down a few feet from it. "Hello there," he tried to sound as friendly as he possibly could, "I have no idea what just happened, and I don't want to overload you with questions so I'll only ask two questions for now. What was all that about and what do you want us to do for us to provide this "closure" that boy was talking about?" He didn't want to ask directly about the Houndour's mother, not unless he felt the Houndour looked like he could take the questions, afterall, he didn't want to upset the Houndour more. Hopefully he would get more information about the boy and the Houndour's mother as well as the mausoleum by helping the Houndour.

Nev the Snorunt

Pest winced as the Beartic was force-fed a generous helping of Toxic. Even from a distance, she could still feel a pang of sympathetic nausea. She imagined what it would be like to swallow such nasty goop, and she shuddered at the thought. Reminding herself that this was their opponent, she managed to pull herself together and keep her head in the game. Or rather, head in the fight, as the situation suggested. It could sometimes be rather difficult to apply figures of speech to bizarre happenings. Sometimes she leaned toward the literal.

She watched the fight progress, feeling her usual stab of guilt at not being able to help directly. By now Pax was one Pokemon of many in her squad, but it had been close to a full year since her acquisition, and she had grown close to the little Eevee despite this being their first adventure together. She wouldn’t be able to forgive herself if anything happened to Pax, even if that anything was nothing more major than a cold. After all, she’d promised Pax’s original trainer that she would take good care of her, and darn it if that wasn’t exactly what she was going to do. And smart-alecks would do well to note that by “take care of” she was talking about providing for the Eevee’s needs, not planning anything more sinister. The intended meaning was clearly implied, of course, but she could never tell with some people.

Cut it out, Pest. You’re not talking to anyone right now. She managed to pull herself back to reality just in time to see Cone flaunt itself with a rather impressive Swagger. It must have been stronger than she’d imagined, then. And braver too, considering its willingness to draw the Beartic’s ire. It made her reconsider the necessity of distracting the monster from Pine’s frantic searching. Just how important could that undefined object be? On its part, Pine seemed as fully distracted with the pile of unknown treasures as the Beartic was with its Superpowered assault on Cone. Still, she approved when Pax threw up a shimmering Reflective wall to separate them from the enemy Pokemon. At least this way Pine would be able to focus on searching for whatever it was looking for without any great fear of being interrupted.

She stared in fascinated horror as Cone stabbed one of its own branches into the Beartic’s neck. Every time she thought she’d been sufficiently surprised by these Snover, they leapt at the chance to prove her wrong. She’d clearly underestimated something, but what that something was she couldn’t be sure. Maybe, she thought, as Pax unleashed a ringing Round, they need to find something really valuable for whoever was calling for them. Or maybe they have an egg somewhere in there. Yeah, now that I think about it, that makes perfect sense. Still, the feeling that something was off about this nagged her.

A mighty rush of energy accompanied Cone as it drew back its hands and unleashed a mighty Wood Hammer, striking its foe with all the force and finality of a sentencing gavel. The vibrations from the strike proved too much for the Snover to handle however, forcing it to its knees. Feeling triumphant, the Beartic reared up and snarled, injured but definitely not incapacitated. Pest swallowed, realizing that with Pine distracted with the pile, Pax would have to face this giant Pokemon alone. She pored over the techniques the Eevee knew in her head, wondering which could take the Beartic down as soon as possible. That was assuming any such technique existed, of course. Pax was enthusiastic, but she was also inexperienced, and that kind of combination rarely worked miracles.

Just as she was beginning to lose all hope, she was startled to see a huge Snover rush into the cave. Then she realized that this was not a Snover at all, but rather a platinum blonde girl whose outfit brought the wiles of an elf to mind. In particular, the bracelet on the girl’s wrist was missing a gem, which Pest automatically tied to Pine’s search. But what could be so important about a gem? she wondered. Then she chastised herself. Come on, Pest. In all the stories you’ve read, when wasn’t a mystical gem a source of great power? Of course, these thoughts were driven from her mind as she watched the girl kneel beside Cone, with tears pouring down her face and mouth open to sob incoherent words. Pest thought of Pax again, and her chest tightened.

At that moment, the brilliant glow of evolution, which she had seen only four times in her life, engulfed the wounded grass-type. The light made it difficult to determine exactly what was happening, but she could see the bulky shape growing and producing spikes as more branches extended from its body. It was over fairly quickly, but it felt like several minutes had passed before a mighty Abomasnow stood where a Snover had once fallen.

The Beartic roared, though whether in challenge or disapproval she couldn’t tell. Cone made no reply, instead preparing itself to rejoin the fray with more energy than ever. Pest couldn’t help but smile at the display, though she knew that the evolution, though welcome, didn’t signal the end of the fight. Their enemy was still dangerous as long as it was conscious.

“Pax!” she exclaimed. “Give Cone a Helping Hand every time he attacks the Beartic. If his stuff as a Snover is anything to go by, his attacks will be devastating even on their own as an Abomasnow. Still, a little help should go a long way.” She paused, considering. “But if the Beartic goes after you instead, give it a taste of your Body Slam.”

Pax barked in affirmation and resumed her stance, ready to contribute to the fray as only a tiny Eevee can. She was small, but darn it if she wouldn’t give her new Abomasnow friend a hand!

Glancing towards Apollo, you affirm both your readiness to do battle, quickly calling out a combination of moves. Wielding his talons like twin blades, Apollo makes a few martial gestures that wouldn't look out of place in any Eastern action movie. In the light of Cofagrigus' torches, the Swords Dance manoeuvres make Apollo's claws glint almost like the real thing, and you feel yourself swell with some degree of pride over your trusted partner. Soon enough, with sharpened talons in position, Apollo dives at the sentient sarcophagus with one hand blazing. The sound of clashing swords is heard as the Fire Punch meets its mark, but as Apollo recoils you see that the searing attack seems to barely have left anything behind. Cofagrigus merely stares at the both of you, its fanged grin as inscrutable as ever - no, that's not quite right; you're certain that even in the ethereal illumination it seems more prestigious than ever, as the light sparkles off its regally impervious exterior. Matching you move for move, it must have used Iron Defence to raise its defences.

Grimacing but swinging into action all the same, Apollo slams his other claw into Cofagrigus, having prepped his ThunderPunch in it while he recovered from the recoil. Sparks dance across the surface of Cofagrigus, conducting through its metal-derived body and giving it a rather spooky, if painful glow. You wonder briefly if this managed to faze Cofagrigus a little, but it merely continuous its inscrutably unnerving stare. Apollo backs off a bit, then breaks into a backwards run as a Night Shade explodes from Cofagrigus' eyes, streaking red and black lightning into the dust as Apollo scarcely manages to dodge most of the it; his feathers singed at the edges where he couldn't. This is clearly a tricky adversary to negotiate - with your preliminary moves not even fazing it, it's not going to be easy...
Orders are called out and the battle quickly gets underway. Starting things off, Apollo waves his claws around in an intricate fashion, almost like a Dance of two Swords. The lights of the torches reflect off the shining claws in a beautiful display that Charm can't help but look on with pride.

"Excellent..." he pauses for the move to finish, "now, strike!" With that, the Combusken charges in, one hand lit up with flames as he swings his 'sword' into the Cofragrigus. Apollo reels back after his Fire Punch, but finds that the attack barely made a mark. The ghostly foes grins as he eyes the two of them, a slight shine streaking across his sarcophagus body. "Aw man, he used an Iron Defense... well played."

Apollo didn't look too happy about it, but he raises his other hand nonetheless as it crackles with electricity before Punching the Cofagrigus with Thunderous power and leaving a nice sparkly, yet painful glow on him. "Yeah! That must've hurt!" Charm cheered on, but with another look he sees the sarcophagus is still unnerved, to his disappointment. Apollo starts to back off, but it quickly turns to a run as the Cofagrigus releases a Night Shade from his eyes. "Watch out, Apollo!" The red and black bolts of ghost energy zap across the floor as the Combusken just barely dodges most of the attack, though it left a few singed marks at the edges of a few of his feathers.

Charm observes carefully as the battle progresses, this certainly won't be easy. "Alright, Apollo, let's take a different approach. Start off with a Will-O-Wisp, then bake him in a Flamethrower! Follow up with a Shadow Claw. Aim at his burn mark, if it's there."

The Graveyard (Please reply in Silver)

"Thank you for your concern and understanding, Master Chad. You've been nothing less than kind and respectful for my situation... sadly, I am beyond your further assistance." A deep, faraway look glistens in Olivia's eyes before she continues, aware of the time limit she's mentioned.

"The truth is, I passed away - or, should have passed away - decades ago. Possibly a century. My family used to be one of several dynasties in Psychic-type society until I was born; a weak, sickly, mewling girl. My life force wasted away faster than most people did, and no one could find the solution to what caused my weaker constitution. It distressed my parents greatly... they could no longer produce an heir, and the thought of their only child being unable to continue the legacy disturbed them." begins Olivia. "They forbade me from venturing outside the family manor - to be fair, I was typically in no shape to do so. Using my own limited telekinetic powers drained whatever little remaining health I had; it wasn't until my twenty-third birthday that I could support myself by levitating my feet. It was the closest that I could come to walking. No more than twenty years later, I died, no more stronger than I was when I walked on my two feet for the first time.

"It was more than my parents could bear. The act of having to bury their own daughter devastated them. Using the last of their remaining power, alongside the magic they wielded alongside their Psychic Pokémon, they restored my soul at the cost of their own, passing onto the next world in my place. Even now their magic permeates my resting place. Keira was here to prevent that magic from ever dissipating," she continues. "Gothitelle is believed to be able to see the lifespan of its Trainer... and Keira, in particular, was a prodigious member of her species. She was one of the closest replacements I had for friends.

"But I couldn't resign her to the fate of a guardian forever. I knew that this life I lived was a borrowed one; I had to free myself from the mortal coil. Yet, it took me decades more before I could even learn the location of my grave - the riddled notepaper you resolved earlier. Possibly a clue left for maintenance personnel to refurbish my tomb. I could not solve the riddle alone, nor venture the graveyard without being stopped by wild Pokémon at every turn... and had you not assisted me, I could not have stopped Keira."

"Goth?" Weakly, Keira finally opens her eyes; an expression of despair at failure filling her wide, tearful orbs.

"Oh, Keira. You've been so brave. My parents would have been proud of what you've did... but you know as well as I do that I cannot stay any longer. I am not of this earth... and you have your own life to live."

"Goth!"

"Thank you, Keira. And thank you too, Master Chad. Perhaps if I had true friendship as you two showed me, I could have been stronger. Maybe the tragedy of my false life could have been avoided. But it's all in the past now... and my future awaits me."

You stand silent, agape at the revelation that's been handed to you - but what could you say? As Keira struggles in Olivia's arms, desperately attempting to protest, Olivia closes her eyes. A definite aura of finality exudes from her peaceful expression, joined by a strange light glinting at her throat, expanding, erupting -

When you open your eyes, you find yourself sitting on the ground, helped by Heracross and Accelgor. You turn around, but Olivia is nowhere to be seen. There are no signs of Keira either, but somehow you have a hunch that she hasn't passed on with Olivia. A familiar, faintly lingering hint of sadness in the air is the final sign you have that Keira was ever here. You glance at the tomb ahead of you, emblazoned with Olivia's name, and an odd sense of calm washes over you. Was this what it was like to stare death in the face? To welcome the end of a journey, the conclusion of a battle well fought? Even in the dreary grounds of the graveyard, you feel a strange glimmer of... faith? Hope? You can't quite put your finger on it.

Idly you feel your foot nudge against an object; squatting, you find a Psychic Ball poised against your left shoe. The final hint of the great Mendelssohn Psychic legacy. Was this Olivia's final gift of thanks to you? There seems to be no other explanation. More questions have opened up over the nature of life and death, and you've come closest to witnessing the crossing of boundaries with your delving into the graveyard - but perhaps, you feel, this experience has strengthened you as a Trainer and a person. It's not the destination; it's the journey that is equally important. And you've got a long journey ahead of you...

OOC: This is the final update for jolteonjak's adventure in the Arcane Realm; as of this point, you are considered a graduate and may proceed onto other Zones for adventures. Congratulations, and I hope you had a great time!

Though Apollo remains fighting fit, your grim Ghostly opponent clearly isn't intent on letting up. Physical hits seem to be out of the question for now, so you make a few alternative commands. A blue flame, spooky and scorching all in one, is released from Apollo's claws, but your heart sinks immediately as a shimmering wall of psychic energy emerges around Cofagrigus. The Magic Coat repels the Will-o-wisp as easily as a spring breeze, but Apollo is unfazed; he soaks up the flame like it was nothing as the proud Fire-type he is.

Annoyed that his efforts are being deterred at every turn, Apollo rears his head; his chicken crest blazing with determination as he retches the most powerful Flamethrower he can muster. This ends up meeting its mark, as the fire blasts through the fragile psychic barrier and roasts the coffin like scrap metal in a forge. You notice the surrounding hands of Cofagrigus shimmer and shudder; it clearly did not enjoy the burn treatment. Pleased, Apollo performs another dive for close combat, raking his arm across the sarcophagus surface for a bristling Shadow Claw. The ethereal nature of the attack slices against the hardened gold like a knife through jam; a pained scream that could wake the dead echoes in your ears. Apollo seems to have made its mark with a critical strike, but you're certain that the shriek you've heard might very well haunt your dreams in the near future. Pleased with his handiwork Apollo steps back, but all too soon you notice his right leg quaver in exhaustion. You barely identify the edge of a strange flame-like formation around your Combusken, but it doesn't appear to be dealing damage... of course, it's the curse of Spite in action, draining Apollo of his power. It seems unlikely that he'll be able to pull off another Ghostly move, and Cofagrigus knows it. Another grim grin lights its face as wisps of shadow start forming in front of its face, gathering into the form of an orb. Apollo is going to take quite the hit if you don't get him out of the way...

Apollo quickly hears the callings of his trainers, giving a brief nod before initiating his first order. The Combusken cups his claws together, creating an eerie blue flame before launching it at the Cofagrigus. The ghostly foe doesn't seem to mind, however, as he plops up a Coat of Magical psychic energy- springing the Will-o-Wisp right back where it came from. "Oh man, that was a bust," Charm comments on the side. Apollo proudly takes in the flame, though, looking just as determined to take down his foe.

The Young Fowl Pokemon then leaned his head back a bit, storing up fire energy before releasing a powerful Flamethrower which sears through the psychic wall and scorches up the Cofagrigus's metallic body. "Ah, the sweet smell burning metal," the trainer snidely says, a grin slowly meeting his face, "let's show him more of what we got! Okay, Apollo?"

"Busken-!" Apollo cries out in triumph as he charges in; his claw glowing in purple ghost energy before slicing the Shadow Claw across the sarcophagus' body for a huge blow! The Cofagrigus screams in agony; a scream so sharp that Charm felt just a bit scared as he quickly cups his hands over his ears. "Oof, ouch is right." Apollo begins to step back after his claw show, satisfied with the work he's done, however his right leg begins to shake in tiredness. Charm looks closer to see a dim formation around the Combusken, it appears that a Spite has cursed Apollo. "Welp, no more Shadow Claws for us, it seems," the trainer sighed, running a hand over his long hair as he starts contemplating new orders. He would have to hurry up, though, as the Cofagrigus began to charge up a Shadow Ball, preparing to release it.

"Oh crap, we have to act fast. Apollo, dodge the Shadow Ball with a burst of Agility as you circle around him. Then dive in for a Dual Chop before finishing with a Night Slash!"

Chad listened intently to Olivia’s explanation of her tragic life. Throughout the story, he was overwhelmed with all kinds of emotions ranging from sadness for Olivia’s poor health, to amazement hearing about her family’s legacy and prowess with Psychic Pokémon, to grief feeling sorry for her parents as Olivia had died at such a young age. Hearing Olivia’s explanation of how gifted her family was with Psychic types, Chad thought perhaps the tomb and surrounding immediate area was, perhaps, some kind of illusion cast by her family and their Pokémon.

Olivia spoke of the final act of her parents and their Pokémon restoring her life. Chad looked at Heracross who was also listening intently and at Accelgor who was listening while drinking his lemonade. After hearing what she said about Keira, Chad finally confirmed his belief that she was Olivia’s Pokémon. He further concluded that Keira must have been trying to prevent Olivia from moving on, so she wouldn’t be lonely.

Chad felt Olivia’s time was nearing its end now as she spoke to Keira. Her words sounded more like a goodbye. Chad nodded in agreement at Olivia’s acknowledgment of her bravery having experience it first-hand. She further thanks him for his assistance throughout this journey. “No thanks are needed, Olivia.”

As Olivia’s final act, she closed her eyes and began to glow. Keira, once again, tried to stop this, but it was futile. The light glowed brighter, engulfing Keira, Olivia, and finally the area around all of them. The light itself was too bright to stare any longer. Chad had to shield his eyes.

An unknown force knocked Chad off his feet. Once it was safe to open his eyes, he saw Heracross and Accelgor by his side. They helped him back on his feet. He scanned the area, but he couldn’t find Olivia nor Keira anywhere. ‘Did she move on along with Olivia?’ Chad thought to himself. ‘She couldn’t have. She was much too strong.’ Aside from his Pokémon, Chad was the only living being around Olivia’s tomb. He looked back at her tomb; read her name. While he was sorry to see her go, Chad felt a strange sense of ease knowing she was at rest.

“Rest in peace Olivia,” Chad quietly uttered. “What do you guys say we get out of here?” Chad made to start walking away when he felt his foot hit an object. He looked down on a whim, and he saw a light purple-colored ball. He bent over to pick it up, and he was astonished to find out it was a Pokeball. “Is this… a Psychic Ball?” Chad stared at the Pokeball for another moment; then he nodded. It seemed fitting to find a Psychic Ball at the tomb of someone who is part of a long line of Psychic masters such as the Mendelssohns. He clicked the ball open to see if Keira was inside, but when the Fixation Pokémon didn’t appear, he closed it, shrunk it, and put it in his backpack.

Chad turned and walked away from Olivia’s tomb. He’d begun trying to process the events that unfolded in his mind. What he saw today was something he thought could never be seen. A woman who was once dead walked and talked with him. He wondered if his parents, in their travels, had ever seen something like that. He made a point to ask them next time he spoke with them. Finally, he thought of Olivia. What an unfortunate situation she was in, always being sick and too weak to even leave the house, even if it was at her parents’ wish. It was then that Chad decided to make the most of what he’d seen. He decided to live his life to the fullest, for himself and for Olivia.

OOC: Thank you for a great adventure Shadowshocker. I found it fitting that you had someone who should be a Psychic master be afraid of a Liepard. Then again, she was defenseless. Anyway, thanks again. Picking up 1x Psychic Ball. I don't think you need them, but just for completeness sake, Stats.

The Graveyard - Please reply in silver

Itzatrap: Houndour nuzzles your hand lightly and looks toward the mausoleum behind you. The Houndoom statues standing guard on either side are quite intimidating, despite being only statues, causing the hairs on your arms to stand on end. Perhaps it's just the combination of fog, darkness, and graves causing this uneasiness, but there is also the spirit of the boy trainer to take into account. This graveyard is definitely haunted. Although Houndour cannot answer your questions you're willing to allow it to guide you to the answers so when the pup rises to its feet and makes its way up the stairs you follow it without hesitation, wondering what this place has in store for you. Upon entering the crypt you immediately sense a powerful energy. You cannot quite understand it, but it is definitely dark and foreboding, and suddenly you're not so sure about this. Houndour's expression is so pleading, though, that you're unable to turn away. The faint glow of firelight from lamps placed strategically around the room and along the halls cast an eerie yet beautiful fiery glow upon your surroundings. Pushing away your feelings of unease you allow yourself to look around, taking in the smooth black marble surfaces, and silver plaques sitting beneath each crevice in the wall containing an urn. The ashes of many Houndour and Houndoom are kept here, all belonging to the same family from what you can tell, as this is a family crypt. Houndour leads you down a hallway at the opposite end of the room and down a set of stairs taking you beneath the surface of the cemetery, and finally along another hallway until you reach a closed door. It sits down and looks up at you, waiting for you to open the door. When you do it leads you inside to find a closed room, its black marble walls and ceiling the same as the rest of this mausoleum with a single small hole in the ceiling, no more than ten centimetres in diameter. Ventilation, perhaps? You're guessing it leads out into the graveyard. In the centre of the room is a circle of black stones surrounding a strange symbol etched into the marble floor inside of which is some kindling. You question the logic of lighting a fire in this space, but Houndour doesn't seem to think it's an issue. Your Pokémon fidget nervously while Houndour uses its Ember to ignite the kindling, guiding you to the circle of fire where it would like you to sit.

Taking a seat you stare into the flames, the hypnotic flickering sending you into a trance-like state. The room becomes increasingly warmer but you barely notice the sweat starting to trickle. Smoke fills the room, most of which escapes through the hole in the ceiling. Strangely you feel no need to cough, so engrossed are you in the images forming in your mind. You see a young male trainer who looks suspiciously like the boy you had met outside playing by a stream with his Houndour. Strangely you can also feel the emotions of the two as they share this joyful moment playing freely, enjoying each others company. The image then shifts and changes and you feel the sadness of the boy who has lost a Pokémon battle, his Houndour sad that she has let him down and does her best to comfort him. It is not she he is disappointed with however, but his own inexperience that had lost them the battle. Shifting again you see the two, a little older now, training in the woods, then in the mountains, and travelling across the land. Some places you recognise, others you don't, but all the while the bond between the boy and Pokémon is growing. You then see them both, elated and celebrating a string of successful gym battle wins, Houndour eventually evolving into a strong and powerful Houndoom. You celebrate their triumphs with them, feel the sadness of their defeat, experience their resolve to keep on fighting, and feel yourself becoming one with them. Years pass, the boy is fifteen and has returned home to visit. Houndoom is to become a mother with a very special litter of puppies. Trainer and Pokémon couldn't be happier. You then feel a dread surround your heart as shadowy figures begin to gather around the pregnant Houndoom. You're unsure of what they are or what they mean but you know that mother and babies are in very real danger. They are unaware of this and she eventually gives birth to four beautiful healthy Houndour, three of which are blue rather than black. SHINY Houndour! This is what was so special about them. Their happiness is marred, however, when one day the shiny pups are found to be missing, the only one left being the normal little Houndour puppy who was discarded for not being special. Heartache follows, months of unsuccessful searching until one day a clue points them in the right direction. During this time the ordinary little Houndour has time to bond with his mother who was mourning the loss of her babies, when she leaves him behind to follow the clues to her other babies whereabouts. This time you see the boy trainer and Pokémon track down the thieves, a battle ensuing, the details of which are too hazy to make out as dark, shadowy figures surround both trainer and Pokémon whose lives are suddenly cut short.

You gasp for air as you suddenly snap back to reality, at first completely disoriented. The smoky air is clearing, the room returning to normal as the fire dies out. You're covered in sweat and feel like you've just lived a lifetime in the shoes of another trainer and his Pokémon, their premature deaths haunting your own memories. Memories? You didn't even know them but grieve for them like they are your flesh and blood. How is this possible? You stare at your teammates, all of whom share the same disoriented expressions and you know they've also experienced everything you just did. You all feel the need to do something, but what? It is then that you sense the presence of somebody else and leap to your feet with a start, your eyes taking in the form of a man at least 6'4" tall, with a well built physique who looks ready to deck you for being here. His short dark brown hair and deep blue eyes gaze at you from a tanned and handsome, yet unsmiling face. He appears to be in his late thirties and is accompanied by a Mightyena who is growling softly at you all. His gaze falls upon Houndour and his eyes soften as he knows why the fiery pup has brought you here. "I think it's time for you all to leave," he says softly, his no nonsense tone indicating he's not willing to take no for an answer. Houndour whines at him, pleading for his understanding, to which the man smiles softly. "I do understand, Houndour, more than you realise, but we cannot bring her back my friend. Please come outside so we can talk." The man looks to you expectantly, but Houndour still doesn't want to move. Your Pokémon don't know what to do, and neither do you, making this one very tense and uncomfortable situation...

While you know Pax isn't strong enough or experienced enough to hold her own in this battle there is no doubt in your mind that she'll be able to aide Pine and Cone in her own way. The battle is becoming even more intense now after Cone's surprise evolution and, despite the danger, is actually rather exciting in its own way. Pax remains on the sidelines, fully prepared to attack should the need arise, but happy just to cheer her new friend on for the time being. While this fight may be exciting, Pax isn't crazy so isn't about to turn this situation into a suicide mission. While Beartic moves in on Cone with a barrage of powerful Fury Swipes, striking the newly evolved Abomasnow several times, Pax can see from the corner of her eye that Pine is seemingly becoming quite panicked as it nears the bottom of Beartic's pile of treasure with no sign of the trinket the little Snover is looking for. Hoping Pine finds it so this battle doesn't end up being for nothing, Pax returns her attention to the battle, providing Cone with some moral support with her Helping Hand. The Abomasnow is grateful for the support and, feeling a boost in confidence, renews his attack. His "fist" glows white before Smashing into the bleeding wound on Beartic's neck with a force that could break Rocks. Lucky for the polar bear it's made of flesh and bone, the attack not damaging it nearly as much as it could have but still sending a shooting pain through its neck and shoulder, hampering its movement somewhat. Angry, it lashes out, Slashing its powerful claws across Cone's wound, healed but scarred due to his evolution, opening it again. Pax offers Cone another Helping Hand, urging the Abomasnow on who hurls himself into Beartic with all his Strength, sending the bear careening backward across the room, right toward Pax and Pine!

With your heart in your throat you can only watch wide-eyed as Beartic remembers there are other intruders in the room. It had been so focused on Cone that it had forgotten about the little Eevee and Snover, but seeing Pine rummaging through its treasure only enrages Beartic further. It roars so loudly your ears start ringing, and at that moment you notice Pine and Cone's trainer has seen you for the first time. Initially she is confused, but then realises you must be the little Eevee's trainer, the Eevee who is providing Cone with Helping Hands while trying to cover Pine with its Reflective wall. Not exactly the best circumstances for a meeting, neither of you are ready for friendly introductions, but the girl acknowledges you with a quick nod before returning her attention to the battle. Cone can see the mistake he has made pushing Beartic in the direction of the two smaller Pokémon and desperately tries to close the gap between himself and Beartic before it can do his friends any harm, but he's just too far away. Pax is in Beartic's sights now and Reflect or no Reflect, this Eevee is going down. With a ferocious roar it throws all its weight into a Superpowerful lunge that smashes Pax's Reflect and leaving her defenceless against the great white beast. At that moment Pine squeaks in triumph, holding a tiny object tightly in its grasp, attracting Beartic's attention who then moves to attack her. Pine breaks into a run, trying to reach her trainer, but to no avail. Beartic intercepts the Snover's path and with one powerful Fury Swipe sends her crashing into the cavern wall, KO'd, the small bauble dropping to the ground and rolling across the floor giving you your first good look at it and you can't help but wonder how a small milky white gem with a swirly green design running through it can possibly be so important as to cause all this trouble.

Snover girl cries out, distressed, racing across the room to retrieve Pine. Pax is so upset at seeing her friend tossed aside like a rag doll that she yips angrily and leaps at Beartic, her Body Slam doing little to the polar bear whose butt she bounces off as it again hones in on Cone who is bearing down upon it. Quickly recovering Pine's limp body Snover girl brings her to you, placing the small Pokémon in your arms. "Please call your Eevee and get them out of here. Cone and I will take care of Beartic but it's far too dangerous for all of us to be in such a confined space. Somebody else will surely get hurt". She then turns and runs back into the cavern as though expecting you to do as she asks and you freeze for a moment, not exactly sure what to make of being told what to do. Something in the way she has said this leads you to believe that she and Cone will be able to handle Beartic on their own, but from everything you've seen this doesn't quite gel in your logical mind. Yet why do you believe that they can? While Cone and Beartic once again engage in close combat battle you watch Snover girl dive for the ground and retrieve the little gem that has caused all this commotion. She rolls across the floor, barely missing being trampled by the battling Pokémon before leaping to her feet. Cone then breaks free of Beartic, pounding the cavern floor with a powerful Rock Smash which results in the walls and floor shaking, with chunks of unstable rock falling from the ceiling. You're unsure if the cavern is about to cave in or not, but it's becoming increasingly dangerous down here by the second. To make matters worse Beartic has started Thrashing about wildly, completely out of control now, even of its own actions as it is now so mad that all it wants to do is smash everything in its path to smithereens. Looking to Snover girl who makes eye contact with you, you know you need to make a choice. "Please?!" she implores, and you know it's now or never. Stay here and risk one or more of you getting hurt, or run to safety with Pax and Pine. She then turns her attention back to the battling Pokémon and calls, "CONE!," her tone unmistakeably confident. When Cone's head snaps to the side to observe his trainer he watches her snap the tiny gem into the hollow space of her amber bracelet. "NOW!"

"NOW!"

Pest could almost feel Pax’s excitement. She was still a young Eevee, of course, but that didn’t diminish her desire to assist her new friends in any way she could. So when she added her strength to Cone’s Rock Smash, her ears perked in pride at being able to help. Sure, it was far more dangerous than the little squabbles she had to break up among her teammates, but in principle it was the same. Some Pokemon needed help, so it was her duty to help bring their tormentor down. Even without having all of the information available to her, the gist was a familiar one.

The trainer, meanwhile, was rather less confident. The power the Beartic wielded was evident as it tore open Cone’s just-healed wound with another Slash, and she shuddered at the sight. If it had been Pax instead, the little Eevee could have been torn in half. Still, she reasoned, as long as Pax kept her distance and limited herself to giving Cone a Helping Hand, there was no reason why she couldn’t be part of this battle. Experience was a valuable thing for a Pokemon to have, even those who she still considered her babies.

Then she froze. The Beartic, propelled by a boosted Strength on Cone’s part, went stumbling backwards towards the two smaller Pokemon. Remembering that they existed, it roared in fury with enough force to temporarily deafen her, and it seemed as though the very cavern shook at the sound. Her eyesight still functioned properly, though, and with it she was able to see that the strange girl had realized she was there. The girl’s eyes darted between the engaged Pokemon, and she put the supportive actions of Pax together with Pest’s rather disheveled appearance. She nodded and returned her attention to the battle, leaving Pest mildly confused. Just who was this girl?

She had no time to ponder on that; as she watched in horror, the Beartic threw itself against Pax’s Reflect with hundreds of pounds’ worth of force, shattering the screen into shards of dissolving light. Pax braced herself, ready to tackle her opponent head-on, but Pine’s squeak of discovery distracted the massive bear, and it turned its attention towards the little Snover instead. Despite her valiant attempt to reach her trainer, the Beartic was quicker, swiping her with a powerful paw and sending her colliding with the wall. Pest winced at how easily Pine had been taken out, but even in her sympathy she couldn’t help but notice the little object that flew from the Pokemon’s grasp: a little gem, white and green, that glinted even in the limited light in the cave. And the girl’s bracelet is missing a gem, she realized, her eyes darting to the jewelry in question. Maybe it’s just sentimental? But that seemed unlikely. If hundreds of hours of reading fantasy paperbacks had taught her anything, it was that mysterious gems often held power or value that would put even a dozen crowns to shame.

Pax, incensed at how Pine had been tossed aside so easily, threw her whole weight into the Beartic with a Body Slam, which the monster barely noticed. Instead, it focused on attacking Cone once more, and the young trainer was disgusted to realize that she was grateful it had been distracted so. But before she could spiral into self-loathing at the realization, the strange girl was pushing Pine’s limp body into her arms. Pest nearly stumbled forward at the unexpected weight, but managed to catch herself. The last thing she needed was to become a liability.

When the girl spoke, it was with the utmost seriousness. "Please call your Eevee and get them out of here. Cone and I will take care of Beartic but it's far too dangerous for all of us to be in such a confined space. Somebody else will surely get hurt."

Pest opened her mouth to reply, but the girl was already gone, diving and rolling across the cavern floor and through the limbs of the battlers to snatch the mysterious gem. She seemed so confident in her abilities, despite the obvious concern she held for Pine and Cone. Whether it was because the mysterious gem had implanted epic rushes of power into her mind, or whether it was out of sheer stupidity, she found herself believing the girl. Not everyone could say they could take on a furious monster and mean it.

“Please?!” the girl repeated; though the noise of the cracking cavern drowned out her voice, it was still a simple matter for Pest to read her lips. Rocks fell out of the ceiling, crashing against the stone below with enough force to crack it. The thought of one of them crushing the little Eevee was enough to make up her mind.

“Pax!” she called, and the Eevee glanced her way. “We have to get out of here. It’s really not safe; I don’t know how much more punishment this place can take.”

Pax’s eyes widened in disbelief. Her ears flattened against her head, and with it she gestured towards the battlers in an obvious attempt to convey that Cone still needed all the help he could get. And she knew all kinds of moves that could help! With Pine knocked out, she could probably put a dent in the Beartic with a Retaliate charged with righteous fury, or maybe a Firestream to slow the beast down with a burn. Did her trainer really not believe that she could do this? She might be little, but she could probably pack a punch if she really tried.

Noticing her Pokemon’s hesitance, Pest tried a different angle. “Pine is pretty much helpless right now,” she reasoned, offering the unconscious Snover as evidence. “It’s not fair to keep her in danger. We have to get her to safety. But more than that, we have to trust that they can handle this on their own. I have a weird feeling that this is going to turn out fine somehow.”

Pax growled in resignation. Ignoring the comment about the “weird feeling” that had absolutely no evidence to back it up, her panicked trainer had a point about Pine’s vulnerability. Casting a last look at the Thrashing Beartic, she scampered over to Pax and to relative safety, though she brought a bitter taste of guilt with her.

Pest stooped down slightly, and Pax leapt up onto her shoulder without slowing down. The trainer hadn’t carried this much weight in a while, but the fact that she wasn’t immediately collapsing was a good sign. Straightening up again, she glanced back at the strange girl for a moment as the latter called her Abomasnow’s name.

“I’m sorry.” The words slipped out even though she knew they probably couldn’t hear her. She had to trust them, but that didn’t stop her gut from twisting unpleasantly at the thought of leaving them behind. Still, she had two little Pokemon whose safety depended on her. So she ran, putting as much distance between herself and the fight as the strange girl shouted with unwavering confidence.

“NOW!”

Pest: Loathe to be leaving anyone behind under these circumstances you also know the girl is right. It is dangerous in this cavern, and with Beartic now Thrashing about wildly, completely out of control, the threat of serious injury to any one of you has just increased dramatically. Pine is unconscious and Pax, though feisty and perfectly happy to stay here and help her friend battle in any way she can, is no match for the rampaging polar bear. The little Eevee cannot believe you are bailing and initially stands her ground defiantly before eventually conceding and joining you as you flee the battle. You hear Snover girl call out, "NOW!" as you sprint out of the cave with Pax and Pine, the Eevee yelping in surprise, her cry catching in her throat as she looks over your shoulder and witnesses what happens next. All you see is a bright light illuminate the tunnel for a couple of seconds as you run, a terrifying roar reverberating throughout the entire underground system. It's not like any other sound you've heard from Beartic since first meeting up with it, but you have the strangest feeling that sound isn't coming from the angry bear. For a moment you feel as though Pax is going to leap from your shoulder and race back to the battle, but she stays put, excitedly calling out her support for her friend, urging him on even while you retreat. Roaring, snarling, and crashing fill the tunnels, the more unstable rocks coming loose, but the tunnels hold - for now. You then break free into the crisp, fresh air of the Silverton Ranges and take several deep breaths, thankful to have made it out ok.

Pine begins to stir as the tunnels fall quiet, and you check her over to make sure she's ok. Other than a little bruised and battered she's ok, the little Snover coming to with a start as she realises she is no longer in the cavern. She leaps up and runs for the tunnel entrance but Pax blocks the way, an exchange in conversation passing between the two Pokémon that you cannot understand. Pax is awestuck, Pine smiles proudly, a dreamy look in her eye, and although she's clearly brimming with excitement and would like nothing better than to race back down there, she stays put, pacing back and forth in anticipation while awaiting the arrival of her brother and trainer who both appear very soon afterwards. Trainer and Pokémon both appear exhausted but happy, and Pine immediately runs over to check on Cone, nattering excitedly while the girl approaches you.

"Thank you so much for your help back there," she smiles. "I was so worried that Beartic would hurt one of us but I couldn't leave Cone by himself. I hope you understand."

"I owe you some thanks as well," she continues, kneeling down to embrace Pine affectionately. "Without you I would never have recovered my gem. You're a brave little one, Pine, and will one day grow to be as strong as your brother."

Pine beams proudly at this, clearly very fond of Cone and hoping to one day make him as proud of her as she is of him.

"My name is Abby," the girl continues, rising to her feet and extending her hand to shake yours. "We were passing through the Silverton Ranges when little Pine here accidentally lost an item of mine, an ancient family heirloom that harbours mysterious powers associated with Abomasnow. Upon retracing our steps we found it had been taken by a Beartic so I didn't worry about trying to reclaim it yet as I'm not familiar with the area and only had my two Snover with me. I didn't want to risk them getting hurt so planned on returning later, but Pine knew I was upset so snuck away from our camp in the middle of the night to try and reclaim it. Cone went after her, and you found them both shortly afterwards."

The girl stops, her eyes turning to Pine. Smiling fondly, her expression thoughtful, she looks back to you.

"Pine loves adventure but we rarely travel," Abby says slowly, an idea clearly forming in her mind. "I noticed you have a brave little Eevee here and as a Pokémon trainer you are lucky enough to travel many lands. Would you be at all willing to allow Pine to accompany you on your journeys? Then, one day, when you and Pine are ready, you can come visit me in the Glacier Island's Arctic Alps. By then she will surely be strong enough to experience the powers of my gem that I will be happy to share with you both."

Pine appears both surprised and excited by this suggestion while you're not exactly sure what to think, and look upon the little Snover who is staring up at you with hopeful little eyes...

In her flight from the cave, Pest was nearly deafened, though whether this was from the sudden roar shaking the scene behind her or from the cry of enthusiasm from Pax at whatever was going on, she couldn’t say. For a moment Pax’s paws clenched around her shoulder, and a fear that she would leap off to rejoin the fray entered the trainer’s mind, but fortunately she stayed put. Pest couldn’t imagine what could possibly be going on back there, though from the brilliant light that illuminated the walls before her and cast long, jagged shadows, she found it easy to believe that the mysterious gem had unleashed some kind of power that not even the Beartic could go up against. She would probably be pleased at her earlier assumption turning out to be true, but at the moment she was too concerned about avoiding a possible tunnel collapse to care.

She only skidded to a halt when she had finally burst into the crisp night air. Behind her the cave failed to collapse, and she couldn’t help but glance backward on the off chance that the Beartic had somehow followed them out, but the massive white Pokemon was nowhere to be seen. Forcing herself to give her pounding heart some time to slow, she took several deep breaths, watching in exhausted fascination as the white plums of her breath curled against the star-studded sky.

In her arms, Pine shifted. The little Snover didn’t seem seriously hurt, as evidenced by the minor bruises on her body and the way she quickly regained consciousness. Realizing she was outside, she wiggled until she could jump from the trainer’s arms, darting back towards the tunnel before Pest could react. Luckily Pax was quicker, scampering to cut her off and explaining whatever had happened in a series of yips and growls. From the look on the Eevee’s face, Pest assumed that something unbelievable had happened, though she had no idea what exactly that could be. Nevertheless, Pax’s story managed to convince Pine to wait for Cone and the girl to appear, which they did after the young Snover had paced about a few times.

"Thank you so much for your help back there," the girl said, looking relieved as she watched Pine scamper over to Cone. For the first time Pest noticed the great discrepancy between their sizes, feeling a little embarrassed that she hadn’t seen it sooner. "I was so worried that Beartic would hurt one of us but I couldn't leave Cone by himself. I hope you understand."

“It’s no problem.” Pest rubbed the back of her head, not sure how to take the unexpected gratitude. She decided not to mention that she could have sent out her Charmeleon or Dusknoir to take care of the situation; in the excitement of the fighting and injuries and evolution, the simple solution had never crossed her mind. “I was just doing what was responsible. I wish I could have done something more to help, but I’m still glad that I could get Pine and Pax out of there.”

The girl smiled, then turned to Pine. "I owe you some thanks as well," she said, kneeling to give the young Snover a hug. "Without you I would never have recovered my gem. You're a brave little one, Pine, and will one day grow to be as strong as your brother."

Pine’s pride was nearly palpable as she gazed up at Cone. He wasn’t her mate, Pest was learning, but they were still family. She hoped that Pine would be able to live up to the example that her brother had set someday.

Then the girl stood, reaching her hand out. “My name is Abby.”

“Pest,” said the distracted trainer, who then winced. “I mean, that’s my name. Pest. Short for Tempest. It’s a long story.” They shook.

Abby fortunately didn’t seem to notice the unintended insult, instead telling her story. "We were passing through the Silverton Ranges when little Pine here accidentally lost an item of mine, an ancient family heirloom that harbours mysterious powers associated with Abomasnow.”

Pest raised an eyebrow at this, having never heard of an item that only benefitted one particular Pokemon. Well, aside from the Incenses, of course. Those didn’t count. Could there be more of these peculiar gems throughout the world, or was this a unique instance?

Despite the intriguing implications, she put aside her pondering for the moment, nodding as Abby continued. “Upon retracing our steps we found it had been taken by a Beartic so I didn't worry about trying to reclaim it yet as I'm not familiar with the area and only had my two Snover with me. I didn't want to risk them getting hurt so planned on returning later, but Pine knew I was upset so snuck away from our camp in the middle of the night to try and reclaim it. Cone went after her, and you found them both shortly afterwards."

“Sounds like something Pax would do.” Pest scratched her Eevee behind the ears, and the young Pokemon leaned into her touch gratefully.

Abby looked to Pine again, now thoughtful. "Pine loves adventure but we rarely travel," she said. Something in her voice caught Pest’s attention, and she listened to the other girl’s intent words.

Pest was stunned by the offer. “Train Pine? Me? Wow, I’m … I’m honored. I’m a stranger to you, but you trust me so much already.” She looked to Pine, who returned her gaze with hopeful eyes. “I mean, not that it’s a bad thing. I’ve only known her for about an hour or so, but we’ve all been through so much together that it feels like a lot longer. Still, I’d love to get to know her better. But she loves Cone so much. It’s hard to say … Parting is such sweet sorrow. I think it should be her decision on whether she comes with me or not.”

She reached into her backpack and, after some rummaging, pulled out a Christmas Ball, which glowed faintly green and red in the thin mountain night air. She knelt as she held it out in an offering gesture. “If you do want to join my team,” she said to Pine, who was looking excited, “I have a home for you right here. It’s pretty comfortable, if my Deerling’s attitude about her own is anything to go by. We will travel across the land, searching far and wide, growing stronger and braver all along the way. It won’t be easy, but then again what is? My team and I are in the business of adventuring. You'll have a new name, one that fits you perfectly: Nerio, after a goddess of valor." It sounded pretentious when she put it like that, but she was on a roll. "And it won’t be a permanent goodbye … You’ll still get to see Abby and Cone again, maybe when you’re an Abomasnow. By then you could really impress him by how much you’ve learned and grown. It’s up to you.”

She smiled. “So what do you say?"

FB Profile

"What?" the trainer could barely process what had happened, and was still happening as he adjusted from what he had seen, gasping for air. "Was that...real? Flashbacks? No...they couldn't be..." He could feel the pain of what he had seen... "How can I feel this for someone I don't even know?" Somehow he felt that it had become a part of him now, even if he did not want it to. Slowly getting back to his "reality", he then took a look at his Pokémon, who weren't fairing much better. Before getting a chance to ask his Pokémon anything, a mysterious figure appeared in front of them. A tall man and his dark wolf-like Pokémon next to him, neither looking particularly thrilled to see them to say the least. The man shifted his attention to the little pup, his expression appeared to change a little, "I think it's time for you all to leave," the man says to which the Houndour responds to by whining, "I do understand, Houndour, more than you realise, but we cannot bring her back my friend. Please come outside so we can talk."

There was no option in the trainer's mind the more he thought about it. As polite and commanding as the man sounded, he had promised the Houndour that he would help him get closure, and the Houndour didn't want to leave. There was a possibility that the man could help, but it sure didn't seem like it from what he just said. Looking at his Pokémon, who all seemed quite confused by the situation, and then to the Houndour, he made his decision.

"I-I'm sorry, but I can't do that. I promised to help Houndour in whatever he needs, and I'm going to stay right here with him if this is part of what he wants. I would really appreciate it if you could help us as well if you know anything," he then turned to the Houndour, "I know what happened to the Houndour's mom and her trainer, as well as his siblings. I need to find out more about these thieves, and what Houndour wants me to do." He tried to sound as confident as possible, without trying to sound menacing as he did not really want to provoke the man and his Mightyena, but he couldn't let the Houndour down, especially after what he had seen and now felt. He then took a glance to his side, Achilles sitting down next to his trainer, with no intention of moving, and he noticed all his Pokémon having similar determination in solidarity for their trainer and the Houndour, which made the trainer smile, internally at least. They couldn't not support the Houndour.

"You think I don't have more powerful Pokémon as well?" he growls, though you notice a flicker of fear in his eye and can sense he's bluffing, too proud to back down. "I was just getting warmed up!"

Feeling something is going to give here you continue to stare him down while your respective Pokémon face off, each ready to rip into the other at the command of their trainer. Mareep is sparking furiously, Lemon Drop's fist is glowing bright, the atmosphere so tense you could cut it with a knife. Eventually the boy backs down, tossing the four Pokéballs on the ground at his feet. "I didn't want them anyway," he cries, blinking away hot tears. "If they're anywhere near as weak as their lousy mother they're worthless!" He then takes another Pokéball and points it at Corphish before hesitating. Rather than recall his team mate he drops the empty Pokéball beside Corphish's head, then turns on his heel and walks away. "Next time you won't be so lucky..." he mutters before turning a bend on the path ahead with Mareep trotting along behind.

Releasing your pent-up breath in one long, slow, sigh, you take in the scene before you. Swellow is hobbling toward the Pokéballs containing her babies while Corphish is struggling to move, still suffering from some degree of paralysis after Lemon Drop's last attack. It gurgles something after the boy who cannot hear and does not care, its eyes filled not with sadness so much as a sense of failure. Your heart breaks for the Pokémon who turns to Swellow and manages to release one of her Taillow who hops over and cuddles up to its mother, before Corphish stops and slumps to the ground, exhausted. Lemon Drop shoots you a "What do we do now?" look and gazes at the bend in the road, part of her still wanting to finish the battle once and for all...
OoC: Despite the fact that I have some bitterness and anger towards the AR, I really am enjoying this adventure Tess, and I think its inspiring some of the best RP posts I've ever written. Thanks, and hopefully I can reply more often, college stress for the past month kept me from doing anything promptly.

Blaze stared at the boy after telling him to leave, and watched as the boy's face turned a bright red shade, like he might have seen on a tomato if he had ever cared to eat one. His face was in a scowl so severe, Blaze was nearly in awe at it. 'What in the world is this kid? What happened to him that he has this much rage inside of him? Even I don't get like this...and there was that...' Blaze stopped himself there. He imagined that a flicker of pity and pain went across his face, but he stood resolute and unwavering. He could not show any signs of backing down to this kid. Not because Blaze was scared of him, far from it actually, but he didn't want the kid lashing out at him, and possibly putting himself in a worse position. What he wanted was the kid to leave, not to stand and fight.

"You think I don't have more powerful Pokémon as well?" The kid growled, but Blaze quickly noticed that the kid backed himself a little bit. 'He doesn't have any...and he knows that. He must be thinking about what I said before about having stronger Pokemon...and that's true.' "I was just getting warmed up!" Blaze panicked a little on the inside, because at that moment, he saw the kid going through with it. He saw the kid fighting him then and there. 'Damn it, take a hint and just go away, you little stink.' Meanwhile, the atmosphere intensified between Lemon Drop and the Mareep. The little sheep was sparking little bolts of electricity at a rapid pace, ready to deliver some electrical pain if needed in order to protect its trainer, while Lemon Drop almost seemed to glow in anger, anticipation, and angst. She seemed to Blaze right there like a lion is as it gets ready to pounce on the gazelle, a beast driven on instinct. Her fist began to glow, and Blaze knew that if the kid were to go after him and Lemon Drop, there was no way he would get out of there without Lemon Drop going after him. Blaze held back his breath, feeling that he couldn't even breath the wrong way, cause if he did, Lemon Drop would go at them. 'It's like a deep fog has settled over everything...almost like that day...'

But, the kid finally gives in to the pressure, and deflates. He grabs the four Pokeballs he had used to catch the orphaned Tailow and throws them on the ground. He looked at Lemon Drop immediately to make sure she didn't lunge at them, but he noticed that she had lowered her fist. 'Good.' Blaze thinks to himself before the kid spoke up. "I didn't want them anyway," he says as Blaze notices tears fall from the kids face, "If they're anywhere near as weak as their lousy mother they're worthless!" Normally Blaze would have gotten angry about that comment, but he didn't. 'He's just trying to save face, he knows he's lost. Better to just ignore what he says now.' He then takes out another Pokeball and points it at the Corphish, before lowering the Pokeball and putting it at the Corphish's head. He spins around and walks away, muttering "Next time you won't be so lucky..." as he slinked away, his Mareep following him dutifully.

Blaze's mind ground to a halt. For him, his Pokemon were his friends. His companions. Yes, even the ones that were trying to kill him like Hades or the ones trying to blow up his present living conditions like Vesuvius. To think of abandoning a Pokemon after it didn't do something well...was unthinkable to Blaze. Blaze was so shocked by it that his shock turned into anger, and from their, his anger turned into hate. "If there is a next time...I'll make sure you get what you deserve..." Blaze spits out, like he had just tasted something unclean and needed to get it out. Then, Blaze took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. 'At least he is gone now. I should probably try to help them out in any way I can for now.'

Blaze sees the Swellow, injured greatly hobbling towards the Pokeballs that are holding its young. The Corphish looks on the path, and warbles something that Blaze didn't understand, nor would he. He didn't have any extra translators on him, but he knew it was some sort of plea or apologize. But the kid didn't care. 'He viewed him as nothing more than a...tool. Fuck.' Blaze couldn't even think about without getting angry. But inside, Blaze knew what he had to do. As he watched the Corphish open up one of the Pokeballs, a Tailow popping out and flitting over to its mother, the Corphish finally plopped down the ground, exhausted. Lemon Drop came back to and looks at Blaze, but not before looking down the road, wanting to get at that trainer and give him the lesson he deserved.

"Lemon Drop, not now. If we meet him again, I'm not going to hold back. That kid is vile, there really is no question about it, but he isn't worth chasing after. What we can do now is show that we care and want to help. That will go farther, okay?" Lemon Drop sighed briefly, before looking at Blaze again. "Alright. So, what do we do about all of this?" Blaze stopped for a moment, before rummaging through his bag. He pulls out a box, clearly beaten down and worn out by the ravages of time and all the other things he had shoved haphazardly in there. It was a Potion, just reaching its expiration date. Blaze chuckled softly as he remembered that he had bought this at the very beginning of his adventure, the adventure he took in the swamp that he still remembers with a bitter taste in his mouth. "I can't believe this is still good." Blaze takes the Potion out of the box, carefully looking it over to make sure that there wasn't any cracks or breaks in it, but it was pristine and still looked good as new. He carefully walked over to the Swellow, and slowly bent down beside it. "Listen now, I'm not going to hurt you. I'm going to do what I can to make you feel better." He takes the Potion and aims it over the Swellow's head, before spraying the Swellow all over with the Potion to make sure he got any injuries that he didn't notice before. Once he was done with that, Blaze looked at the Corphish lying on the ground.

The Corphish was clearly still suffering from the effects of Lemon Drop's Thunderbolt, as it was still twitching in some places, a sure tell sign of paralysis. Blaze felt bad for it, no, heart-broken about it. But he didn't know what to do now. He likely couldn't try to talk to it, and he didn't have any medicine in order to make him feel better...wait? Or did he? He rummaged through his bag, when he chanced upon a small package he had got a little while ago for Christmas. He opened it up and found five ice cream cones...which oddly enough were still frozen, if not a bit mushed. He remembered hearing something about this ice cream being able to heal up any Pokemon who ate it...but the ice cream not being melted made Blaze questions whether or not it was just made with preservatives. He picks one of the cones up, realizing now that they were slightly sticky, and places it in front of Corphish's mouth. "There, eat up man. This should help, and if it doesn't, its ice cream!" Blaze laughed for a bit, not because he was actually laughing but because he was trying to lighten up the mood. "Hey Lemon Drop, you think you can mediate between us?" Lemon Drop looked down, pushing a little dirt with her feet. "Sure...I guess." Blaze then began to speak to the Corphish, with Lemon Drop quickly interpreting. "Hey, I know that you must have felt some sort of obligation towards your trainer...and I don't hold it against you for that. It is natural after all. But the thing is, he clearly does not have that same sort of appreciation for you. He left you here, and that makes my blood boil. Plus, you are injured. What I'm saying is, I'd like you to come with us, even if its just to the nearest hospital or Pokemon Center. It would not do my conscience good to just leave you here. What do ya say?"

Despite making a breakthrough, Cofagrigus appears to be matching you move for move, and you have a hunch Apollo is slowly but surely feeling the toll taking on him. Nonetheless you remain positive and determined, ordering an Agility for Apollo to make a quick getaway. Relaxing his muscles while concentrating on lightening up, Apollo suddenly tenses in time, bounding away with his powerful legs and talons just as the Shadow Ball detonates on the ground in front of him where he was mere seconds ago. Leveraging on the flow of movement, Apollo darts across the cobblestoned path like a Surskit on water, claws blazing with mystical power. One hit follows another as Apollo's Dual Chop lands its mark, striking the coffin's side with precision.

You catch your breath, wondering if you might have done it, but even while you wonder this you feel a dark shiver trickle down your spine like a clammy ice cube. Briefly turning, you spy darkness at the corner of your eye; where has Cofagrigus' arms gone? But that could only mean - you turn back in horror, seeing little more than Apollo's head and crest writhing within Cofagrigus' melded mass of ethereal arms; the Bind having held him in a lock. Shaking, you call Apollo's other order even as Cofagrigus glows an ominous shade of red; you watch as energy begins transferring away from Apollo in the form of a Pain Split, as though counting down to a doom you're both dearly hoping to avoid. While it takes him some struggling, you eventually see bursts of energy erupt from where your Combusken's forelimbs should be under all that shadow. Cofagrigus lets out another grisly screech as its spectral arms are shredded before your eyes, severed by the dark energy lining Apollo's Night Slash along with the health link. Apollo lands in front of Cofagrigus, visibly exhausted and drained - but then again, if Cofagrigus is managing to siphon health away from your Pokémon, maybe the battle is going in your favour after all. The next move, you realise, is probably going to be a rather critical one...

What do you do?
The Cofagrigus' Shadow Ball is just about finished charging as Apollo receives his first order. With his legs loosened, he tenses as the ball of ethereal energy is launched towards him before darting around with the burst of an Agility. With swift accuracy, he runs around towards the ghost-type, avoiding the Shadow Ball before dealing a double dose of draconic strikes in a Dual Chop.

Charm lets out a deep breath, relieved at the bullet they just dodged when he notices something missing... "Where are his arms?..." Apollo crows back at the realization of this, but it was too late. Within a blink, the Combusken finds himself trapped between the sarcophagus' several arms in a Bind. "C-c-combusk-," Apollo barely squawks out as the arms tighten around him. The Cofagrigus begins to glow as it looks as if he's sapping away at Apollo's health in a way to Split the Pain. Charm looks on in horror as he shouts his final orders in a panic. The Combusken responds as one of his arms bursts in blazing dark energy before Slashing across the ghost's arms with Nightly fury, severing the link of the Pain Split as well.

Apollo then stands before his foe once again, the damage of the battle looking pretty visible across his body as he struggles to hold on. "Hang on, Apollo, just a little more!" Charm calls out as he thinks over his next orders. "... Okay, I got something! Bounce up high into the air as you release a Fire Blast towards him. Use the momentum as you descend to follow the kanji of the Fire Blast with a Cross Fire!"

Certain that your combative ordeal is close to an end you call out fresh orders for Apollo. The continuous combination attacks have certainly taken their toll and Cofagrigus, so far, has proven to be nothing if not resourceful and stalwart, but the same could be easily said of you and your Combusken. Not to be outdone, the arms of the spectral sarcophagus dematerialise, before a burst of wind explodes in your direction. For an otherwise somewhat weak move, the Ominous Wind has a good deal of strength behind it, and you and Apollo start finding it hard to stand firm without being pushed back. Nonetheless, Apollo tenses his legs and launches a Bounce manouevre, rearing his head at the peak of his ascent. Cofagrigus' gaze follows this movement before its eyes shrink in an expression that can only be described as "Oh, poopy." The typographical character inferno erupts from Apollo's beak, and try as Cofagrigus might to muster up a Dark Pulse in response, the Fire Blast simply swallows it up before bathing the coffin in pyrokinetic pain. Another ear-shattering screech tears into your ears as though you can feel the spirit inside being exorcised.

"Stop, stop! No more. I yield," coughs the coffin, raising its wispy arms in weak surrender. "Your resolve is true, as is the strength you back it up with. You have won your right to an audience with Dusknoir." Gratefully, Apollo looks up to the Ghost-type, then to you. He hasn't come out of the battle unscathed, but at least he came out of it triumphant. Level-up for Apollo.

"From this point on you must allow me to escort you. The realm of spirits beyond mortals is vast, and only with the guidance of one of its guards can you seek audience with Dusknoir directly." At this, you feel a strangely clammy feeling around your feet; you look down to see them cloaked by a peculiar miasma not unlike the arms of Cofagrigus. Apollo gazes at you, lifting up a talon to show his feet are likewise bound, and with a jerk you find yourself moved forward as though on a travellator. Cofagrigus has its back turned, but it's clear that he's moving all of you ahead, and as you muse to yourself on this new mode of transportation you barely notice the landscape around you grow murkier than ever. Cascades of gas streak around you, cloaking the earth and rubble, until no more than a void of starless darkness surrounds the three of you.

"We are here."

You feel yourself come to a halt, though the journey was so smooth and uneventful, you can't tell if you've been travelling for moments or hours. It could very well be either; darkness is the only way you can describe the state of things, but as you kick your left foot you realise you have control over your feet again.

"Please, walk this way." Following the kind instruction you do so, although you're in no greater awareness of your location than before. A good number of paces, later, though, you suddenly feel the gazes of many Pokémon upon you. Sure enough, pairs and singles of crimson eyes suddenly fade into being, though aside from black silhouettes you can't tell who's who. A low rumble issues through the emptiness, and you suddenly see a bulky, regal spectre shimmer into appearance. Its arms are folded and its gaze is inscrutable.

"Master Dusknoir," greets Cofagrigus, slowly tipping in a bow as its left set of arms flourish in courtesy. "These brave travellers seek an audience."

"You may stand down, Cofagrigus. Though unexpected, I received word of this," booms the ghost. At this, you gaze at the strange appendage affixed to its head. "I also know of the purpose, the goal which you seek," it addresses you. "Indeed, as you have learned, we hold onto the lost soul of another seeking that of his beloved. Unable to find his way and locate his soul guardian in time, his lifeless body now lies in our possession.

"I understand that you have come to take his place in this quest. You have accepted the risks of doing so and have taken responsibility. An honourable decision to be sure, but take heed. In our realm, failure will mean the severing of your body and soul. You will join the ranks of the wanderers in limbo."

You nod firmly, as does Apollo.

"So be it. The spirits you seek are held by one Pokémon of three, whose identity has already been alluded to you." Dusknoir raises its hand, and a trio of blazing orbs appear in front of you briefly before dissipating. An Elgyem, a Pawniard, and a Frillish form out of the fire with their heads bowed.

"You must fight the guardian for it to relinquish that which you seek," states Dusknoir. You glance at Apollo; while he's a fighter, you know the fight with Cofagrigus earlier took a lot out of him. It might be a good idea to use someone else for this, but who would you be fighting?

"Choose wisely, Trainer. Now you have come this far, there is no room for error."

What do you do?

"Choose wisely, Trainer. Now you have come this far, there is no room for error."

What do you do?
Weariness was shown across both sides as the battle was reaching its climax. The next orders were called when just as suddenly, the Cofagrigus' arms fizzled away as Ominous Winds began to blow towards the duo. Charm raised a hand over his face as the winds pushed even him back, before shouting, "Now, Apollo!"

The Combusken was given his cue as he launched himself into the air with powerful force. The Cofagrigus looked very alerted by this, releasing Pulsing waves of Darkness towards the avian chicken, only for him to release back a Blast of Fire which develops into a five-figured kanji that seemingly devours the pulses before searing the Cofagrigus for a mighty hit. The ghost-type screeches out in pain once more before finally conceding defeat.

Apollo crows out in triumph as Charm runs over to pat his dear partner on the back. The battle seemed to have made the Combusken stronger as well, as Charm could see, noticing the improvement as Apollo raised in level to 56. "Good job, buddy! Anna would be proud," the trainer congratulated. The Combusken's expression softened a bit at the mention of his mother's name, the intensity of the battle seemed to have taken his mind off of her though this not-so-welcome reminder started to seep in. Charm noticed this immediately and abruptly apologized, "Sorry... too soon, I know."

With that exchange over, Cofagrigus explained that he would have to guide the duo towards Dusknoir, due to the vastness and complexity of this realm. The trainer nods his consent when both his and Apollo's feet become shrouded in spectral energy. The energy seemed to be controlled by Cofagrigus, which began to send Apollo and Charm onwards in a way very similar to a travellator. Charm looked around as he noticed they were clearly moving- the landscape and gas gradually grew darker until there was nothing more than pure darkness around them. "Well... this is new," the trainer merely let out as his eyes remained widened in bewilderment.

Eventually they stop moving, as Cofagrigus points them to their destination. "... How long were we moving?" Charm asked, though given no response as he starts to move under his own control again. Following the ghost's instruction, he simply moves upon the Cofagrigus' direction until he noticed something. He was being watched. Blood-red eyes took shape around them as a large ghouly figure took shape in front of them. It was the Dusknoir.

The Cofagrigus introduces the adventurers to Dusknoir, who responds of his knowledge of their arrival and the purpose of their goal. This saved Charm the trouble of having to explain their intentions, as he was still taking in his surroundings, or lack thereof, so he remains silent. The Dusknoir then mentions the consequences for failure, though the determination in both Charm and Apollo remained strong as they nodded their consent.

With that, the Dusknoir raises a hand as three blazing orbs form, summoning forth an Elgyem, a Pawniard, and a Frillish. One of which is the holder of the soul that the trainers were requested to seek. Charm begins to think back to the note- "In deserts far once thought to thrive, known to some as six oh five." Still not completely sure what that could mean, he reaches into his pocket before whipping out his black-red Pokedex. Flipping it open, he then points it to each of the Pokemon before him.

Quote:
Elgyem -#605 the Cerebral Pokemon. Rumors of its origin are linked to a UFO crash site in the desert 50 years ago.
Quote:
Pawniard -#624 the Sharp Blade Pokemon. Ignoring their injuries, groups attack by sinking the blades that cover their bodies into their prey.
Quote:
Frillish -#592 the Floating Pokemon. If its veil-like arms stun and wrap a foe, that foe will be dragged miles below the surface, never to return.
"Hm, Elgyem's Pokedex entry is the only one that mentions a desert, and plus its number is 605 too... I guess that's our target." Apollo stands before his trainer once again though Charm stops him in his tracks, "Not so fast, buddy. I appreciate your willingness to fight, but you need a break." Apollo then caws out in protest, something quite unusual for the level-headed Pokemon to do. "Apollo, you're not in shape for another battle right now... You don't have to prove anything, you've done a wonderful job," the trainer tried to ease his partner. The Combusken's tensed expression turned to one of sorrow, perhaps the thoughts of his mother caused him to act out. Without a thought, the trainer kneeled down and clasped his arms around Apollo, holding him in close for a hug before reaching for his Fire Ball. "It's okay, buddy..." he spoke, starting the feel the tears streak down Apollo's face as he returned the brave fire fighter to his Pokeball.

With a heavy sigh, Charm stood back up as he reached into his belt for an Ice Ball this time. Enlarging it, he tossed it into the air while calling out, "Come on out, Osage!" A red light beamed out as it struck the 'ground', taking the shape of a Sneasel. The Sneasel gave a sharp look at his trainer as if saying, What do you want? Charm noticed this and instinctively answered for him, as he's always done the other times he had to call out Osage, "Sorry for calling you out, Osage, but I need your help. We have to defeat this Elgyem in order to save someone's loved one's soul." The Sneasel stood there in silence as if discerning whether the cause was worthy enough of his assistance before giving mild grunt and facing his foe, claws out in a battle stance. A smile met Charm's face, "... Thank you," briefly adjusting himself for another battle before yelling out, "Start off with a Fake Out. Then deliver an Ice Punch and Shadow Claw while you're in nice and close!"

Carefully considering all the information at hand, you make your choice out of the three Pokémon dully looming ahead of you. Now the decision came for who to send out, and it proves to be the harder one to make. Reluctantly you recall your faithful Combusken back into his PokéBall, thanking him for all he's been through for you. A second later you send out his replacement: your surly, second-in-command Sneasel. The Sharp Claw species merely gives a little grunt in response to your explanation, but turns around anyway in acceptance. Psyching yourself up you declare your orders against the Elgyem, who merely raises its head in acknowledgement. The other two, as though understanding that their presence is not required, merely dip their heads lower as the heatless flames surrounding them pull back into the dark void. Dusknoir merely folds his arms and nods; whether you've actually made the right choice is anyone's guess, but it's too late to doubt your decision now.

As the fire around Elgyem dissipates it assumes battle position opposite you, while Osage sharpens his claws in anticipation; regardless the situation, this looks like an easy mark and he's certainly not going to pass it up. Feral ferocity lights up his eyes as he tears into action, slamming his hands together in a shockwave of Fake Out. As predicted the attack beans Elgyem on the head, knocking the alien a distance away as it effortlessly hovers. Even as Elgyem tries to right itself Osage moves in for the kill, sparkles of light blue energy focusing around his claw, but as he swings in his Ice Punch Elgyem suddenly flickers out of sight. You and Osage scatter your vision for a bit before relocating Elgyem several metres behind your Sneasel, evidently having demonstrated a Teleport manoeuvre.

Not expecting this quarry to put up an annoying front at the start, Osage snarls a little while he darts in closer. As though drawing in power from the mystical location you're now in, Osage's Shadow Claw almost appears to burst with fearsome spectral might. Drawing in close he rakes his attack into Elgyem, only to meet with a direct Headbutt in return, and a small ripple of vibrations can be felt as both Pokémon are knocked backwards. Surprised, Osage raises his claw to his forehead; no flinching occurred, thankfully, but his expression mirrors your thoughts - just how powerful was that Headbutt? Elgyem doesn't look like a bruiser, and Osage even had the speed advantage... or maybe, was that the problem? Could this Elgyem benefit from being slower than its enemy, as some specimens were rumoured to? Whatever the case, this foe is much less simple than you might have otherwise believed...

With Charm's decision made, the Pawniard and Frillish take their leave as they are returned to the dark void by the flames. Dusknoir merely crosses his arms with a nod as the Elgyem assumes his own battle stance in front of Osage, the flames formerly around him now dissipated.

A wild grin meets the Sneasel's face when he sees the clear advantage, darting off in an instant as he claps his claws together to Fake Elgyem Out. A smile met Charm's lips as well- it was always a treat for him to be able to see Osage's speed in action. The train didn't stop rolling from there, however, as light blue tints of Ice energy formed around the Sneasel's claw before he swung in for a Punch- only to find himself surprised as he swings into absolutely nothing.

The Elgyem vanished in an instant, reappearing several meters behind Osage with a showcase of his Teleporting abilities. Osage snarled out in anger, not expecting an annoyance of this nature, and Charm couldn't help but feel a bit perplexed himself. The Sneasel shakes it off nonetheless, rushing in as the ghoulish aura of his surroundings seemingly fuel his Claw with a familiar Shadow-like energy. Coming within close quarters, the Sharp Claw Pokemon slashes ahead, finding his claw colliding with a solid Headbutt from the Elgyem- sending both Pokemon back from the collision. Charm could feel the vibrations from where he was standing, looking quite confused by what he just saw as the Sneasel seems to be asking the same question- raising a claw to his head to gauge the impact he just felt.

"... Hmm, you're a strange little Elgyem, aren't you?" Charm queried, not exactly sure what sort of trick the extraterrestrial Pokemon might be playing, or perhaps... Reaching into his bag, the trainer pulls out his Pokedex once more- flipping it open and aiming it at the Elgyem. "Abilities: Telepathy - Synchronize. Hidden Ability: Analytic" the Pokedex droned. "Hidden Ability?" Charm raised an eyebrow, clearly this was no ordinary Elgyem. Perhaps this Elgyem draws its powers from being slower than its opponent. "We have to do something about this... Osage, give 'em a Brain Freeze to think about. Then focus on Calming your Mind. Once that's done, launch a Dark Pulse."

Sending out your newest acquisition into the fray, you quickly shout tactical suggestions to Ashara; both Trainer and Dunsparce looking at you in brief confusion. Trapinch merely glances at you inquisitively, your ownership overriding whatever animosity it had during your first encounter, giving it the appearance of hanging onto your every word. Pupitar will have none of this, though, and it takes a loud roar (or as loud as a mouthless stone chrysalis can manage) to jolt your team back into the proper mental state of emergency. The chance of getting to munch on something gets Trapinch's attention, though, and she lunges at the Hard Shell Pokémon with her jaws wide open. Latching onto Pupitar's side with Bite, this definitely gets Pupitar's goat; while it doesn't appear to be too detrimental to the earth cocoon, the sheer tenacity and force of Trapinch's mandibular power prove to be sufficiently irritating. Dust and pebbles fling everywhere as Pupitar tries its Thrash, but its limbless anatomy and Trapinch's impressive bite strength prove more than it might have anticipated, as Trapinch holds on with little more than a few winces as the rock pod flails aimlessly (if violently).

"Alright, Dunsparce, now's our chance!" Following up on your tip, Ashara tries calling her own orders. "Give it your Glare attack, then wear it out with your Spite!" It takes several moments for Dunsparce to stop quivering, and a few more for it to focus on the target, but despite madly flailing Pupitar does manage to get an eyeful of the land snake's evil eye. Noting her work done, Trapinch finally detaches from her quarry, and if not for a couple of visible bruises on the lower-levelled Pokémon you wouldn't have thought she'd been tossed about like a Trainer on a Bouffalant; she's visibly hardy, it seems. Finding a bit of dirt around, she shakes up a Sand-Attack against Pupitar as Dunsparce frowns even harder - though most of the dust seems to merely bat off Pupitar's exoskeleton, Dunsparce's pressure seem to have an effect as its facial expression sags. Could your unlikely duo have done it? You wonder if you could just take the chance and sneak around the Rock/Ground-type, but its eyes open widely in another glare, and you shudder as you feel the tunnel around you start to quiver. Wind starts blowing along with scraping fragments of sand, and you watch in horror as most of it begins pooling, pulsing, practically erupting from Pupitar's vermicious abdomen. Trapinch tips her head idly, not too bothered by the incoming Sandstorm, but you know that without the natural protection that earth Pokémon usually have, you're a sitting Ducklett in this subterranean environment. A burial by sand down here would be nothing short of disastrous.

What will you do?
OOC: LATELATELATELATE

SORRYSORRYSORRYSORRYSORRY

As the wind fills with particles of sand, Kin instinctively flinches- The desert above well taught him the pain of these conditions, like a million tiny claws nicking at him from every angle. Looking around, he finally realizes the very real danger. While not one for self preservation, Kin's instincts find themselves dredged from their long sleep the moment he realizes that there are in fact others in this situation with him- Ashara, her Dunsparce, and of course the Pokemon he brought with him. There's only one solution- he must protect them. His mind clears, his limbs lighten, and he's running the moment the words leave his mouth;
"Trapinch, grab Pupitar and smash them to the ground, then drain as much energy as possible with GIGA DRAIN! Ashara, recall your Dunsparce and run- If we can get past Pupitar while it's distracted, we'll be in a much safer position!"

Briefly consulting your Pokédex, you're certain by now that this is no ordinary Elgyem that you're dealing with. You signal to Osage, who merely grimaces over the new degree of annoyance he now has to face before turning back to the diminuitive alien. Special situations call for a special move, and you order a Brain Freeze from your Sneasel, releasing a wave of glittering fragments at Elgyem, which begin sinking into its disproportionally large head. For a moment nothing seems to happen as Elgyem stares stoically ahead, though you notice a brief glint scatter across its shining sclera. Folding his arms, Osage dismissively stands opposite Elgyem, focusing his own power as the gem atop his forehead shimmers; his own Calm Mind at work.

At this, Elgyem begins moving forward to take advantage of Osage's otherwise compromised state, but is suddenly seized as it shudders. Osage can't help but grin at this; evidently, having a big brain means having a big headache, as the effect of Osage's earlier move kicks in at the opportune moment. Sneering widely, Osage puts his own boost to the test as a Dark Pulse rips from his paws, slamming into Elgyem with rings of negative energy. The little extraterrestrial tumbles backwards into the void, buffeted by the move before righting itself and headed straight for your Sneasel. The smug expression on Osage's face is suddenly wiped off as a Psychic wave from Elgyem's eyes blast him back, knocking him some distance away before he digs his claws into the floor of nothingness, snarling at the Psychic-type for the unprecedented assault. Realisation eventually dawns on you as you recall the glint in Elgyem's eyes; evidently, a Miracle Eye had come into effect, and as Elgyem's irises shine with more psychokinetic power incoming, it's clear this is far from over...

The prospects of facing another sandstorm aren't particularly enticing to you, and immediately your survival instincts kick in. Frantically you call for more orders as a stopgap measure, while shouting at Ashara to evacuate. The desert girl looks less sure of herself, and to be fair, the environment isn't making it great for thinking, either. Dunsparce is much more inclined to flee as it begins shuffling away from the conflict, but Pupitar clearly has other ideas. Surrounding itself in a dark aura, Pupitar lunges forward faster than your eyes can see, and the next time you spot it, it's slammed into Dunsparce, sending the yellow bug tumbling along the dirt. It's now obvious that Pupitar isn't keen on giving up Pursuit of you just yet, but then again, neither is your Trapinch. As though interested in getting a second taste of stony cocoon, she leaps at the other Ground-type with her jagged jawline open and makes her mark along its gut. The howl of Pupitar is quickly lowered as Trapinch's Giga Drain does its work, siphoning the Rock-type's vitality in a slow but sure flurry of energy tendrils. Could this be it? You think hopefully as you hack, forcing out a few stray particles of silica that found their way into your mouth. Ashara looks to you again, and despite her not saying anything, you can see the concern mired with fear in her gaze - she's aghast at your suggestion to leave you behind.

"We've no choice. Dunsparce, use Water Pulse!" Going on the offensive, Ashara calls for a surprise order; as though matching her sudden resolve, Dunsparce's fearful face turns into a frown, as hydrological power accumulates in front of its pointed mouth. The resultant orb is fired several seconds later, blasting through the swirling sand and dousing Pupitar in a terrific explosion. Trapinch merely shakes off the stray drops as she can, but her enemy clearly did not enjoy the shower.

"I don't usually order that move," Ashara explains as you feel the sands start to die down, still surprised at the card she had up her sleeve. "Water's a precious resource down here and any Pokémon that can use Water-type attacks have their usage strictly rationed in case of emergencies. But I think this situation qualifies," she admits. "And look! I think it worked!" Glancing back at Pupitar you notice that it's no longer capable of maintaining its Sandstorm, with its swaying movements erratic and unsteady; evident of confusion setting in.

"Now's our chance! Dunsparce, return!" Grabbing you by the wrist, Ashara runs ahead as she recalls her Pokémon, giving you mere moments to do the same. Too addled to make its move this time, Pupitar merely hobbles like a slowing top as your party makes its escape. What of it? you can't help but ask yourself, listening out for any close signs of being followed, but after a minute of frantic dashing led by Ashara, it becomes clear that you're no longer under threat.

***

Thankfully for you, the journey remains uneventful. Following a few more minutes to catch your breath and bearings, Ashara eventually leads you to a patch of light, guiding you into a sloped pathway along a cliffside. Grass and moss lines the rock pathway, leading away from the small mountain range.

"On foot, you should make it back to civilisation on your own after half a day. I'm afraid this is where I have to go; it'll take me a little longer to find an alternative route with that Pupitar in the way," says the desert girl. You tilt your head worriedly at this, but as though sensing your discomfort she merely smiles back.

"You're a brave person, Kin, for someone just starting out. With a little insight and preparation, I think you'll go far," she grins, grasping you by the hands for a final time. "Well, see ya!"

With that advice in mind, you watch as your guide runs back into the cavern; not completely reassured, but at least a little more confident that she knows what she's doing. Looking at your hands, you see a small satchet - rubbing it between your fingers, you feel the gentle texture and warmth of the Soft Sand; a last memento of your adventure. Casually brushing against Trapinch's PokéBall at your side, you take a final gaze back at the mountains and desert behind them before setting sights for town. Your adventures have begun, and between you and your new friends, you know you've got much to learn - but you'll enjoy yourself ever step of the way.

OOC: No level was gained for the encounter with Pupitar; it was designed as a slightly higher-level encounter that necessitated a slightly stronger Pokémon than the newly captured Trapinch, and I interpreted your decision as an escape. That said, this concludes your adventure in the Arcane Realm, and opens up the rest of Fizzy Bubbles to you as a Trainer. Congratulations, and I hope you had an enjoyable adventure!

The adversary before Osage continued to tick the Sneasel off, it was certainly time to give that brain a rattle. With a puff of air, The Sharp Claw Pokemon releases a light blue hue of shimmering ice energy towards the foe, seeping into the Elgyem's head- who seems to be doing nil but sparkle up his eyes at the sight. "Hm? That probably isn't anything," Charm shrugs it off, "Keep going, Osage!" The Sneasel dismisses the trainer's callings, though he does as he's told- closing his eyes as the yellow gem atop his forehead glows, signifying his Mind at work to Calm itself in a battle trance.

The Elgyem catches the Sneasel as a sitting duck, beginning to head towards his foe when he finds himself shuddering. The Brain Freeze from earlier has seized the Elgyem on the spot, turning the tables as the Sneasel gives off a nasty grin- re-opening his eyes with malice intent. Holding his claws forward, Pulsing waves of Darkness seep out of them as the rings strike the Psychic-type hard as he tumbles backwards. Charm gives off a smile as Osage roars with laughter, the intensifying battle raising his otherwise calm spirit. The cackles were soon cut off, however, as Elgyem rises again to return to the favor. With a burst of Psychic energy, the extraterrestrial releases a mighty wave which washes over the smug Sneasel- knocking him back as he slams his claws into the 'floor' of the void to halt his skidding.

Charm blinks before the battle. What did he just witness? A Psychic hitting a Dark-type? The trainer mulls it over until a cold chill reaches up his spine, "Oh no..." he mumbles, recalling the glint of Elgyem's eyes from earlier. "He used Miracle Eye that time..." he says aloud. The Elgyem seems to be just getting started, his eyes shining in preparation for the next bout. "We can still do this!" the trainer calls out, doing his best to keep his spirits up, "Sharpen up those claws with a Hone Claws before coming around and diving in with an Aerial Ace. Then jam your sharp claws right in with a Crush Claw!"

With Osage now prone against Elgyem's Psychic-type moves, you tense on the inside as you realise that each advantage you've had is being cut off, one by one, slowly but surely; your Ice-type likewise had started to lose is cool, snarling rather than smiling but still in the game enough to focus on your orders. Claws hit the void once again as Osage begins his Hone Claws, streaking sparks where his nails meet the ground and sharpening them from the friction. Elgyem, having prepared its own moves, releases the blistering Psybeam from its eyes, and just as Osage finishes his buff he unhappily takes the mental laser. Worriedly you wonder if the beam managed to obfusticate him, but Osage violently shakes his head in reflex and glares back at the alien, murder burning in his eyes. Like a living zephyr he darts across the ground, almost levitating off the surface as he charges in quick and fast, just as another rainbow blast is launched at him, scattering neon polygons in its wake.

Recognising the different move to be sharply against your favour, you almost shout a warning to Osage, but he interprets your orders well, darting to the side at the last second. The Signal Beam streaks uselessly into the air where your Sneasel was a few moments earlier, and the Sharp Claw Pokémon dives into Elgyem's side, completing the Aerial Ace manoeuvre. The little grey squeaks in pain, and you feel a little throb in your head. Was it the Psychic-type's affinity for the cerebral, or was the otherworldly environment finally getting to you? As though equally intent on finishing the match, Osage segues into his next command, slamming his Crush Claw into Elgyem and sending it tumbling across the void. Squealing, Elgyem eventually manages to right itself with its mental power, but the battle has taken its visible toll; even as it levitates it can't help but tip forward, thanks to the centre of gravity located in its proportionally massive cranium. Osage seems to ease a little, but you feel a sickening lurch as Elgyem begins glowing a faint golden light - just how many tricks can a little Psychic humanoid have up its sleeve? The light begins growing in intensity, and you begin recalling where you've seen the attack; it's a Recover. If you don't end this right now, who knows how much further this will drag on...

The match has proven to be quite an unusual challenge as Osage's advantages seemed to backfire. Starting off with another boost, the Sneasel Hones his Claws against the floor of pure darkness, sharpening them to a respectable level. Meanwhile Elgyem fires off a Psybeam which the Sneasel unfortunately takes- knocking him back and leaving Charm quite worried if the attacked happened to affect Osage mentally.

The conviction in the Sharp Claw Pokemon's eyes proved otherwise, thankfully, as he dashes forward with great speed- another rainbow-colored beam heading his way. "Oh no, this one could hurt," the trainer murmured, but Osage remained prepared- darting to the side to safely avoid the Signal Beam before slamming into the extraterrestrial's side with an Aerial Ace. Charm felt delighted to see his Pokemon fight so valiantly when he felt a sudden throbbing in his brain. "Urgh, I really don't belong in a place like this. Let's try to finish this up, Osage!" The Sneasel continues as commanded, jamming a Claw into the Elgyem, sending it off with the Crushing blow.

The constant strikes have clearly left their mark on the Elgyem, who takes the opportunity to begin glowing. "Huh..." the trainer blinks, trying to figure out what the Elgyem could possibly be doing this time around when something clicks, "Oh crap, it's Recover! We have to stop this asap. Snatch it away from him, then Shadow Claw. Then use a Dark Pulse once more!" Charm commands hurriedly, knowing that every second counted at this point.

Knowing that momentum is slipping away in matters of seconds, you quickly order countermeasures to Osage. No more willing to see things drag on than you, Osage regards Elgyem with an almighty sneer, and almost immediately the glittering surrounding the alien start sifting away from their point of origin. Raising his arms, Osage bathes in the healing power of his Snatched Recover, feeling the scratches seal shut seamlessly and the strength return to his strained muscles. Elgyem, as though unaware of what happened, merely hovers in place and looks at its still-injured hands, and you'd almost feel sorry for it if not for know what's at stake.

With his vitality restored, Osage is free to stare down his prey, adding a spot of taunting for good measure as Elgyem weakly floats in response. With his talons unveiled, Osage dives back in for another Shadow Claw, meeting Elgyem's Psychic blast in response - ordinarily you might have been concerned, but the stolen health Osage obtained puts him comfortably above whatever danger zone he might have been in. Elgyem, on the other hand, is not so lucky, quivering in mid-levitation before it finally thuds to the nothing ground like a rag doll. Level-up for Osage.

"You have proven victorious in battle," intones Dusknoir, surprising you with the presence of its voice; you'd almost forgotten that it was there. "But was your decision accurate?" Before you can answer, you feel your throat seize up, and a downwards glance reveals a faint blue light emanating from your heart. Like a will of the wisp it bursts from your chest, leaving you feeling abruptly drained despite not suffering any injury; across the void, the same happens to Elgyem, and the two swirls of azure aura meet in the centre. Are you being judged? Fear seizes you, except that in the strange circumstances, you don't even know what panic feels like. You are, and that's all there is to it; no sensation, feeling or ache. Like a justice overseeing his court Dusknoir raises its hand before bringing it down; abruptly, the sense of touch is restored as your soul shoots back into you like a lightning bolt. Overwhelmed by the bizarre out of body experience you tumble backwards, prompting Osage to dash back to your side.

"Fear not, human. Your quest has proven fruitful, and your resolve proven strong. The souls you seek are held within the guardian of your choosing." Reassuring you, Dusknoir raises its arm once again. "And now the time has come, for you to return to the realm of the living. Safe journeys, until the day your life departs..."

***

The last thing you remember is falling limp, but you certainly don't recall falling asleep. Blinking vigorously, you find yourself just outside the gates of Yamask and Golett, just as you were before your adventure started. Instead of Apollo, Osage stands beside, no more comfortable with the graveyard than the netherworld dimension.

"Ugh..." Unfamiliar voices rouse your attention, and you look to some distance away; a young couple pick themselves from the ground, undoubtedly the people you risked life and limb to rescue, appearing rather healthy for individuals trapped in limbo. "What happened? Jason?"

"Maria? Thank goodness, it is you!" Embracing the lady in a quick, tight hug, you find yourself smiling at the display of affection. "But if you're here, and I'm here, how did we... Oh!"

It is at this point the twosome turns around, noticing you and Osage. Unconsciously the three of you stand up and walk towards each other, drawn by the happenstance crossing of fate. "Was it you? Were you the one who rescued us?"

"I bet he is, Jason! Gosh, I didn't think anyone would actually come for us," blushes Maria, despite the gloom of the graveyard. "We... had an argument, and I ran away here, but ended up stumbling upon the limbo dimension before Jason could catch up with me."

"It took me time, but I eventually researched how to get Maria back. But I forgot the prerequesites to escape, and... well, you know the rest." Sheepishly scratching his head, Jason continues, "I don't know how to thank you. If you hadn't chosen to go out of your way, and risk yourself - I think we'd have wandered for several thousand years. If only I knew what to give you in return..."

"Jason, what about this?" Indicating her wrist, Maria shows you a band wrapped above her hand.

"That? But, Maria... you said that protective bracelet's been in your family for generations."

"I know, Jason. But after what we've been through... I think you're right. It's a little silly for us to have argued over something so trivial. Besides... I feel so much more secure with you looking out for me," gushes Maria. At this, Jason quickly turns away in clear embarrassment, and you feel your smile widen. If anything, your adventure has certainly given you an insight into treasuring your relationships.

"Here!" Happily, Maria slips off her band and hands it to you; you're no expert, but the Pearl String appears antique, if not considerably valuable. How Maria might have received it, you have no idea, but it's not really the time and place to look a gift Horsea in the mouth.

"Bye!" "Thanks again!" Somewhat awkwardly the loving pair bid their farewells, running off to what you can only hope is a cherished life together. Sorrow and cheer alike you found today in the graveyard, and thinking back, is that not what life is in equal parts? A few sharp tugs at your pants bring you back to your relevant perspective, as the bored Osage beckons you to leave soon. Either way, you've had yourself quite the odyssey between worlds and back, and it's a story to tell to your future kin when the time comes.

OOC: Finally, Charminions has graduated from the Arcane Realm. Congratulations, and I hope you had a blast!
