Rapid-fire Archery

Pretty cool video of a Danish archery enthusiast demonstrating how one can hold many arrows in the hand rather than retrieve them one at a time from the quiver in order to shoot very quickly. A lot of the commenters are too preoccupied with the uploader's claims or with his text-to-speech computer narration, but put those worries aside and just enjoy the video for what it is: a guy firing arrows remarkably fast with very good accuracy.

Sadly, a lot of old archaic forms of martial arts are lost. Fencing is nothing like actual martial arts of the past. Movies depiction of sword fights are terribly inaccurate in most cases. This is especially true when we see battles where armored soldiers are slashed by swords and downed, when in reality, armor would likely turn that sword slash into more of a glancing bash and do almost no substantial damage. Only a strong thrusts or a powerful concussive blows really injured someone in heavy armor.

Seeing someone rediscover and seemingly master an old technique of archery is pretty cool though.

Archery is awesome. I wish I could have kept it up but the local club when I moved back home was rubbish.

Sadly I could only make shots like that after aiming for about ten seconds, so no rapid-fire for me.

Legolas.

Rewatched the video, thought it was cool. That's more of an artform using the bow than a military method, though.

I can't wait until we rediscover the ancient art of Hokuto Shinken, where a single touch leads to bodily explosions.
