Dopple's been far from shy about showing his distaste for the modern games for years, so skipping these them is nothing new for him. I'm honestly still surprised that he even started messing around with Gen. 7's metagame at all, considering how much he trashtalked it throughout its lifetime. Don't worry about him.
I, for one, will be skipping these games as well, albeit for financial reasons (I haven't been able to get any PKMN games newer than BW2, so no surprise there), though I'd only be getting Shield if I had the ability to grab either. The only Sword-exclusive pokemon that appeals to me so far is hydreigon, and I already can grab that in one of my current games, so I don't see much of a reason to get it as well. |

Have I been trash-talking Gen VII? It seems like a bizarre characterization because of how enamoured I am with the SM anime. I do remember being disappointed that our predictions were wrong during the SM launch, but that was also the only time in the past 1.5 decades that we had fun in the prerelease speculation.
Oh, I've definitely loathed everything from 2018+. But it's hard to imagine a time when I hated the Alola era. I've long forgotten the rage I felt for being born.

Eh, it could just be that your recently incredible levels of negativity have bled into my perception of the years prior- at the very least, you have always been one of the critical foils to M.M.'s unwavering optimism. Your recent extremeness has been consistently rubbing people the wrong way throughout the entirety of SwSh's prerelease season, though.
I suppose I should've thought about more than just the games with my last post, though- you have been one of the few people I've seen praise the SuMo anime, yet alone so (comparatively) consistently. Considering how you reacted when the saga's premise was revealed, I'd say TPC managed to net themselves a solid win there. |

I've lost quite a bit of my indignation just because the anime decided to do its own thing:
Spoiler: show For the first time since Generation I, it's possible to walk away from the current games and still see something new. I still hate a lot about SS, but I don't feel like fighting anymore.

Most of the leaks have been Gigantamax forms, and it's harder to get excited about those when you know Gigantamax isn't a permanent feature. It might be out as soon as the DP remakes.
It doesn't help that Gigantamax is a watered-down gimmick and, unlike Mega Evolution, you are saddled with an underpowered Pokemon before and after you use it.

I'll have to, my little sister doesn't have a Switch and she wants Sword, so even though I'd only buy Shield otherwise...

I only purchased Sword.
I feel that the Switch's profile system negates one of the biggest reasons for buying both copies: to have a second save file. Not only that, but $120 is quite a lot to spend on two games that are incredibly similar in my opinion.

I got both. Shield is my main version. I still haven't played through Sword to completion, but that's definitely on the to-do list.

I read people were doing that with Isle of Armor for getting both Urshifu.

You can, yes, but all that saves are the pokemon. You'll still lose anything else tied to the file such as the clothes and the Currydex, however, so that's pretty problematic if you actually care about any of that (and a number of people do). Having the second file lets you start over without sacrificing the progress you've already made, or lend out the game to someone else without actually risking either the main file or the cartridge. |

$60 for a second save file is in fact, not exactly good business on the consumer's part.
I still refuse to buy both versions because what started as maybe some genuinely innocent conceit (press X to doubt) about trading Pokemon has turned into a money making model. There was no reason to have multiple versions by the time Gen IV rolled around. Ah well.
