So, now that we're a few episodes into everything, just gonna do a quick update. I've ended up dropping DanMachi and Denpa Kyoushi since neither have really made me want to watch anything past the two episodes I've already seen, DanMachi just not really grabbing me outside of Hestia-craze and Denpa Kyoushi having a pretty lackluster second episode imo. I'm still watching Mikagura and Food Porn the anime, but both of those have their own threads, so I'll make a post there sometimes. I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying is still a keeper, but it doesn't have much to talk about since it's a 3 minute comedy series. I want to watch more than the first episode of Nagato Yuki-chan based on:
Spoiler: show But I haven't been too motivated to keep up with it. The last thing I'm still watching, and what I think is probably be overall best of the season so far (out of what I've watched) is Hibike Euphonium. If anyone still has doubts about whether it's its own thing, I can assure that it is, and it definitely isn't the next K-On. The similarities end at "girls + school + music." Hibike actually has a plot, goals, and a very different mood from K-On. Up to episode 3, everything's been clicking, the characters are all pretty good to great, and it presents enough to keep a lot of interest while still raising some questions. And Kyoto's animation is fantastic as always, especially with the eyes. Not entirely sure who else is watching it, but Lanturn and I have been fanboying about it a lot over the past week or so xd

I've programmed about two scenes for Jinsei wa Hikikomogomo!. I haven't hit my groove so it's a bit hard right now. But I plan to focus in all week and see how things go.
I will likely release a test demo once I get past the second Taihenna encounter. I think that's two weeks away.

I originally downloaded Hibike, but I saw that "Hibike!" in the title, and I recalled the nightmares from where I forced myself watch that crappy Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. In concerts, the main guy would shout "HIBIKE!" in his head along with a bunch of philosophy filler that would only impress a 9 year old.
Also what is the freaking deal with Hestia from Dungeon Deai? From the looks of it, she is insanely popular. Danbooru has her at nearly 2k images, which is really, really high for a show that just started. Is she a fascinating character, or is she famous for other reasons? Not much going on in my neck of the woods. Been thuggin' it up with the Saints! Still keeping up with my new shows though. Thoughts, I guess. Houkago no Pleiades Nothing has changed. Still boring. Still cute. Blah blah blah. I really like the art and animation. It would be nice if we got another show with the same art/animation, but better story. Also after realizing that this was originally a car commercial, the car sounds the wands make kind of irritate me. Hello!! Kiniro Mosaic Seems the first two episodes really were some of the best skits from the manga and put into the first two episodes. The episodes after that are the same boring SoL nonsense I remember dropping Mosaic for. Well...maybe I liked the first two episodes better because they were mostly about Karen/Kongou? Hmmm....nah, episodes 3 and 4 simply weren't funny. Kyoukai no Rinne I don't know if I want to drop this or not! I am getting nothing from this show! It seems just like a boring and dumb rehash of Inuyasha! I can't tell if it's trying to be dumb or not though. Like....even if alot of the things in the show are dumb, they're also not funny in the slightest, which makes me question my life! I'll drop when I get fed up with it, I guess. Plastic Memories This has been a very meh show for the first 5 episodes. It's like the writers/animators are just trying to bring in some kind of emotion in the viewers in the cheapest way possible. They don't even care whether or not the make any sense. Atleast in episode 5. I also really don't like the girl with orange hair. I kind of wish she'd jump off a cliff. I say "kind of", because they'd make a bunch of stupid boo-hooing and waste 3 episodes on her dead, annoying ass if she did. I spent the entirety of episode 5 laughing, and there was no intentional comedy in it. Show By Rock Still a very cute show without much else going for it. Unlike Houkago though, it's not boring. While not exciting, it's still fun and bubbly enough to keep me entertained. Also it's nice how there's a different song (from different bands) every episode. I personally like the chibi animal CGI forms they take in the song sections. Here's an example of what they are like. The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan Is it sad when the best part of the show (I guess up to episode 3 spoilers?) Spoiler: show Last edited by big bad birtha; 05-03-2015 at 06:53 PM. |

Just to be clear, I haven't seen too many Hestia doujins yet. (Maybe two in total from big circles?) But what I have seen is gobs of evidence supporting the idea that the doujins are in the pipeline. II. I think a lot of the current Internet popularity behind Hestia is the whole "lol boob ribbon" thing. The character has a blue ribbon that she ties to each of her upper arms and has riding right underneath her boobs. The idea appears to be that when she lifts her arms it has the effect of lifting her boobs with them; if she can do it discretely enough, she can make it seem like her breasts are actually larger than they really are. The feature went viral, as evidenced by tweets like this. (To be fair, when I Google search "Hestia" I don't get what he got and instead get the actual Greek goddess, but when I tell Google to specifically show me news stories for "Hestia," then oh my god yes, what I see is stuff like this, this, and this.) Tons of women (and a not insignificant number of men >_< lol) decided to try their hand at the Hestia ribbon to see what effects it would have on their breasts. For most, the results are unimpressive -- it either doesn't work or else it does lift them but it makes the breasts look really misshapen. Surprise: otaku novelist's headcanon about boob physics incorrect. I was first exposed to the viral craze via Kantai Collection, of course. :p

I was kind of hoping there would be more to her than the boob ribbon fad. 1.8k images in 30 days is still effing insane though. In that short a time, she has just as many images as Sentou Isuzu and Hoshino Fumina (bike shorts girl from Gundam Age) combined, and just as many as freaking Sena from Bokutomodachiblahblahblah. Though looking again, the "rei no himo" tag has slightly more images than her, so I guess that's all she is. What a letdown. On a related, but amusing note.
On another note, there's this guy doing some excellent cosplays! Here is his page. Enjoy! |

Popular Characters:
1,587 results for a Pixiv search for 千斗いすず (Sento Isuzu). 4,656 results for a Pixiv search for セレナ ポケモン (Serena Pokémon). 5,231 results for a Pixiv search for サーナイト (Gardevoir). 5,492 results for a Pixiv search for ヘスティア (Hestia). 6,679 results for a Pixiv search for アスナ (Asuna). And SAO is how many years older? 7,149 results for a Pixiv search for ティファ (Tifa). But admittedly Pixiv isn't very good about fanart for fandoms long past their heyday ... 8,957 results for a Pixiv search for 長門有希 (Nagato Yuki). 9,540 results for a Pixiv search for 水銀燈 (Suigintou). 10,484 results for a Pixiv search for サトシ (Satoshi). 19,042 results for a Pixiv search for セイバー (Saber). 21,889 results for a Pixiv search for 金剛 (Kongou). 66,876 results for a Pixiv search for 博麗霊夢 (Hakurei Reimu). Popular Franchises: 262 results for a Pixiv search for ラブひな (Love Hina). (See what I said with FF7 and god damn copy and paste.) 2,965 results for a Pixiv search for 甘城ブリリアントパーク (Amagi Brilliant Park). 3,193 results for a Pixiv search for ダンまち (DanMachi). (3,567 for the full title, ダンジョンに出会いを求めるのは間違っているだろうか.) 7,218 results for a Pixiv search for レイトン教授 (Professor Layton). 7,240 results for a Pixiv search for とらドラ (Toradora). 17,379 results for a Pixiv search for カイジ (Kaiji). 17,556 results for a Pixiv search for SAO (~). 18,779 results for a Pixiv search for 夏目友人帳 (Natsume Yuujinchou). 18,802 results for a Pixiv search for 逆転裁判 (Gyakuten Saiban). 28,827 results for a Pixiv search for ローゼンメイデン (Rozen Maiden). 29,705 results for a Pixiv search for 涼宮ハルヒ (Suzumiya Haruhi). (Search for 涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 yielded several thousand less hits, understandably.) 32,422 results for a Pixiv search for エヴァンゲリオン (Evangelion). (Search for full title yields only 8,511 hits.) 50,669 results for a Pixiv search for スマイルプリキュア (Smile! PreCure). 52,704 results for a Pixiv search for fate/zero (~). (Pixiv is case sensitive, and so only 39,945 for Fate/Zero. Combine the two figures if you like, but it'd be inexact.) 60,680 results for a Pixiv search for ダンガンロンパ (Dangan Ronpa). 85,621 results for a Pixiv search for NARUTO (~). (Searching for ナルト yields only 35,779 hits and is likelier to be reserved to the character himself.) 91,394 results for a Pixiv search for けいおん (K-ON!). (Adding the exclamation mark drops the figure by about one-third to 61,240.) 112,955 results for a Pixiv search for カゲロウプロジェクト (Kagerou Project). 163,326 results for a Pixiv search for 銀魂 (Gintama). 192,639 results for a Pixiv search for 魔法少女まどか☆マギカ (Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica). 325,243 results for a Pixiv search for 艦これ (KanColle). (238,791 results for a Pixiv search for 艦隊これくしょん [Kantai Collection].) 492,739 results for a Pixiv search for ポケモン (Pokémon). 1,794,304 results for a Pixiv search for 東方 (Touhou). As you can see from this admittedly non-random sample, while the sheer volume of Hestia fanart that has come out so far is incredible with respect to individual characters, DanMachi fanart as a whole hasn't yet put a dent in the major heavyweights of Pixiv nor is it likely to ever do so.

As someone keeping up with what I like to call 'JRPGs: The Shoujo', I'll admit that Hestia's popularity surprises me. Like, sure, her and Bell have an interesting and refreshing dynamic, but she's not really that interesting a character on her own?
Although, I'll admit I'm not too well-versed in how Pixiv works, but how is it possible for the amount of Hestia results to more than eclipse the number of results for the series?? Is there another character with the same name or are there like a bunch of images of the greek gods or...? |

The tagging system is all user-done, so it's probably the case that several thousand of the Hestia pictures have a Hestia tag but not a DanMachi tag.
Another possible contributor, though I don't think it too likely, is that there is little overlap between the DanMachi tag and the full title tag. If, suppose, all of the uploads either have one or the other tag but not both, then it'd mean that there are roughly 7,000 DanMachi uploads on Pixiv right now. Usually, though, many of the uploads will have both tags, and so the real number of DanMachi uploads (tagged as such) is probably closer to 4,500 to 5,500. Third possible contributor is that some of the uploads might strongly suggest a Hestia tag but weakly suggest a DanMachi tag. For example, if it's a picture of Hestia visiting the KanMusus' dormitory, then perhaps it'd have the Hestia and KanColle tags but not the DanMachi tag. You could argue that this way of thinking is flawed and that any picture with a DanMachi character in it should have the DanMachi tag, but that'd be your opinion and would bring us right back to Paragraph No.1.

Has anyone watched this: Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches? It features one of my favorite tropes in eromanga -- body swapping! \o/ -- but attaches it to a 12-episode harem anime format devoid of any sexual hijinx. orz So it seems like it'd be really boring (as body swap stories go) but could also be really cute/fun (as far as ordinary harem series go). Also it may not even really be a true harem since it seems so painfully clear that Main Guy goes with Main Girl and none of the other girls are even remotely in the running.
So yeah. Just thought I'd ask if anyone had checked it out, if it was any good, etc. Don't be afraid to say it's not since that's the conclusion I'd reach just by watching the PV. But if it is good, well then say so. I'd like it to be good because I have a soft spot in my heart for the body swap genre.

I read a good portion of the manga.
It's fairly ordinary fare, but the manga itself gained a ton of notoriety for the translation. Part of it was using boldface to emphasis words, especially when not indicated by the Japanese. The other was it was heavily localized to sound like American high school kids. "Like, omigod, shush, shut up, totally, that's so whack," etc. Really hilarious stuff, but once you subtract that the manga itself isn't anything special. It needs that over-the-top translation effort to really hold attention. I don't think I could watch the anime.

I've been doing some plagiarism and noticed something a tad bit odd. I found a random image on the internet that appears to be partially plagiarsed from the one I'm plagiarising myself.
So I plagiarised from it, like Doctor Frankenstein, ripping off limbs and sewing them back on to another. ... Speaking of plagiarism, the opening and ED of GoPri sounds plagiarised. 1. I told BBB, but the opening has a segment that sounds like it's from Mary Poppins' "Chim Chim Cheree". 2. The ending sounds like an andate version of "Hare Hare Yukai". Listen live. GoPri opening versus Chim Chim Cheree GoPri ending versus Hare Hare Yukai

I'm in tears! XD XD
Disclaimer: if you haven't played Ever17 before, then do not click the first hyperlink in this post. Also, as always with sites like YouTube: never read the comments sections because ALL THE SPOILERS. :') Okay, so ... I was re-listening to Ever17's "Karma" by way of YouTube and I scrolled down to read the user comments. As one would expect, many a class clown was weighing in on the CG that is so iconically attached to this song: Quote:

I then notice that someone else has provided an upload of "Karma" that doesn't appear to have a spoilerific image for the video thumbnail. An upload which also boasts being 20 minutes long, an edited loop of the song. Well cool, I think, let's check it out. I'm not going to listen to it for 20 full minutes, but maybe it'll be good. And besides, I figure -- comments! So I scroll down to the comments section ... and oh my God I was in tears laughing at this bbb-style post: Quote:

The post I wrote just got erased. Bleh.
I basically said I thought Talon's image was indeed funny, and it would be worth putting Karma over scenes from To Catch a Predator. It's related to an evil idea I had with BBB to post innocent macros in Going to Heck with hentai captions. Like a girl on a swing-set going "My hips are moving on their own" or a kid looking at ice cream and thinking "It's so huge...will it fit?"

It's weird how To Catch A Predator is basically a comedic candid camera show, but with the added twist that the pranked people's lives are ruined forever.

I'm going to try and clear some space today on my PC (watching shows/VN reads) but one thing I spent a significant time doing is loading it with various anime girl pictures, looking for a style befitting two of the remaining characters in my novel.
I'd like to recruit some help - just experience, if you recall examples - in looking for spots to find such. Here's the criteria so far: Pink haired girl, air-headed personality. Symmetrical ties on both sides. Think Princess Leia buns, or Tsukino Usagi strands. Blonde/yellow haired girl - vain idol-type. Long hair. Could be tied in something, but I'm thinking ankle length long. Pony tail possible on either. If any examples of a style like that comes to mind, please let me know! Back to our regularly scheduled discussions.

I have like fifty different projects I want to work on / complete. Guess which one I'm doing next?
I just finished (re)reading the prologue, Kyon's unforgettable soliloquy at the start of Episode 02 of the television series. It was great. I read it a lot slower than Sugita delivers it, but I have to and it's still great, just different. The biggest thing I've noticed is how much more information there is in the book version. Like, understandably, they had to cut it down for time for the TV version. But there are some choice mentions in the original text whose presence seems awfully telling given the kept company. I've told myself that if I read every English book I already own (Vols 1-4 hardcover) that I can justify the purchase of the next volume(s). I can't justify importing Volume 11 from Japan right now -- sadly -- but I can justify a $10 purchase off of Amazon if I know for a fact that it'll be money well spent.

So here I am, wondering about whether I should load up my old 480p a.f.k. copies of Haruhi or whether I should go about getting a higher-def version that may have been released in recent years. And in searching for a version with a.f.k.'s subtitles, I happen to find a release by a group named Elysium that says:

I didn't know that we knew Strato's real name. :o I also didn't realize that he was the translator for the first five Haruhi novels. I'm not going to regurgitate the rest of what our newsbringer had to say: his original post serves well enough to communicate my own thoughts on the matter.

Man, that Elysium guy sounds like a monstrous douche. I wonder why so many subbing groups seem to be filled with egomaniacs.
I also was not aware that Strato actually did the official novel translations. It's funny how his Haruhi fansub was so far reaching that it practically forced the hand of Bandai to "incorrectly" name it The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya with the reversed names (which is one valid critique against Strato's translation like we talked about before).

I dunno if they're "douches" so much as you go into a church, and insult that Church's god in front of the faithful, and they're not going to be happy.
Usually though, if a legit translator is going to defend why they think another sub is bad, they will point out what is wrong with the translation and how it could be better. Objectivity and rationale is far more convincing to anyone than simply saying 'a.f.k. sucks. lol'. They're pretty spot-on about the 'head-hunting' though. I used to make this as a baseless accusation for why translators would promote works they translated. Part of it was to cover their arses if they were targeted for a suit, but the other was that they wanted to get paid to translate work sometime, not different from the volunteer work one does for a company one interns for. Except for online fansubs, there's the worship aspect that comes with producing the subs...less so in the CrunchyRoll era but still a thing for light novel and visual novel translations, I've found.

I finished the first omnibus of Cardcaptor Sakura the other day and it is so much better to know the story outside of the horrible 4Kids dub. Also it's hella gay. Pretty sure that there's like a 50% chance that any new character is going to turn out of be hella gay.
