That's disappointing news. Definitely hoping for patches too.

Footage of Dynamax during battle in action and... looks kind of underwhelming? I guess Wooloo is supposed to be more of a defensive Pokemon but it doesn't look like Dynamaxing was too overpowered. I guess only time will tell but I was expecting a lot more.

A certain video keeps getting spammed on my feed, so I watched it and got really annoyed with the uploader's comment.
Seems a tad innocuous, what's wrong with it you may ask? Let's magnify! Spoiler: show Maybe someone could give some insight into the gaming industry. I don't know jack about games, having JUST done the basics this past month. But compared to Valve, it seems like people think the same methods to pressure Valve or other US Western developers will work against GameFreak. Maybe in 2016 that naivety could be excused, but we live ain a post-LGPE world. I'm being a little belligerent with this guy because as a YouTube he's obligated to buy and review the game, but there's no shortage of people with his viewpoint: hate a lot of what happens in the new Pokemon game but buy it anyway, thus rewarding the developers for the decision they didn't like. Why is this?

Can't speak for everyone but as disappointed as I am that lots of the old 'mons aren't going to be in the game, I just like the series enough that I'd rather have some form of Pokemon on Switch instead of holding out completely.

Here's another tidbit of information courtesy of Smogon.
Well, first some intro. LGPE OU is divided between "normal" OU and the "candy" OU. Candy OU, because of the massive HP boosts caused by candy, is a stall based meta. Looks like one of the chief boosts of Dynamax will be to HP. Quote:

I dunno, it's so temporary that you're probably better off dynamaxing something that is slow and offensive. Ignore your opponent's attacks and stomp on em with your giant nidoking or whatever.

You mean Nidoqueen, the better, bulkier Nido, surely.

Since Gyarados is in the Galar dex, I think dynamax would be the best buff to my mono water team!
I still have no Xerneas switch-ins, but it's better than nothing right??

In a someday world where every speed tier is crowded, I think Nidoqueen will be much more dominant in her own tier than whatever tier Nidoking finds himself in. She has a more efficient BST spread, and the speed tiers naturally place her in an environment where she will be effective.

Benefits of Nidoking:
- Purple - Megahorn > Superpower - Attack number is bigger - Bigger def/spdef, Dynamax gives the HP - Speed doesn't matter

as far as queen v king, queen has seen more use over king in vgc for the extra bulk, since the lo + sheer force makes up for the lost spa anyway, and the tanking is more important.
queen has seen decent tournament success as a result in a few formats where what it provides is wanted. King hasn't that's like, neat |

Ball Fetch is going to recover Pokeballs that miss...
As for the looks. I think a lot of the Pokemon look really derivative, and would not be bad if we didn't know better that they pull design elements from older Pokemon. Drednaw's face looks like Volcanion. Alcremie looks like Lilligant (shape, posture, feminine-theme) Duraludon looks like Galarian Gigalith Arguing good/bad designs is always an exercise in futility, but derivation is much easier to prove. I think expy designs are much worse than blatantly reusing old Pokemon like Alolan forms. More troubling is the game philosophy. Say what you will about raid battles - stealing ideas from Go makes the main series better. Sun/Moon did the same to YO-KAI WATCH and I think that worked out well for GameFreak. What we know about the gameplay, with two gimmicks, a Pokemon XY-style story focus and a somehow even more impotent regional team than Team Skull, reflects a very cynical, patronizing view toward the player. But I think the horrific part is this is what modern players want. According to my sister, high schools cannot fail students anymore. The teacher is more likely to get fired over flunking a student than a student actually failing. Students get auto B's since the goal is to push people through a system, as if they were feces progressing through an intestine, destined to be flushed out by society. So this structure breeds the immediate, continuous rewards expectation that made mobile gaming popular. So I feel like GameFreak is making a game for such people, one that makes the player feel even more Mary Sueish than prior installments where the player literally saved the world and was the most important person in the region's history. ... But hey, at least the anime's good, eh?

Posting this mostly for my purposes. Didn't want to make a new thread, but in the spoilers is some of the reasons why people are pissed about Sword/Shield. I kinda wanna have everything in one place, ya know.
Spoiler: show Anyway I'd post more but it's 4 am. |

My problem with that movement is that it's being used as a proxy for a lot of criticisms about Generation VIII, not just the omission of the dex. If GameFreak suddenly announces the dex for the 2020 Pokemon games, all the other (more valid) concerns basically fall apart.
More people should have taken a stand against LGPE when they had a chance, instead of blindly believing that Generation VIII would be some transformative Avatar-like experience. Now, it's too late.

Unfortunately, this falls on gamefreak for being so incomprehensibly lazy. They had an opportunity to, in LGPE, make at least SOME new attack animations for their reduced roster. That would have allowed them to put in Pikachu, and Charizard, and whoever in Sword/Shield with some animations already done. Instead, GF is turning into the new EA. I can't wait for Pokemon 2020 next year, I wonder who will be on that roster. |
