Because HD wasn't HD enough
So, did you hear the news? 4K is the new HD!
Now that 3D is dead and 1080p is a standard that no longer impresses people the way it used to, it's time for a new buzzword to prepare yourselves for over the next ten years: 4K! Yes, we've heard of "UHD", but come on! That's just not as catchy and hip as FOUR KAY! But anyway, check it, what do you think?

My friend told me about this last weekend and I was like "you've got to be shitting me".
There's a point where we're gonna reach real-life resolution. |

In fairness, was HD really that impressive*?
*Yes, yes I really do get all my worldviews from webcomics.

It's gotten to the point where I don't like watching sports or some things in HD, because it looks fake, like a video game, even though I know it's not.

I think the resolution acuity is related to the dimensions of the surface projecting the image. So if you have 1080 for a 20 inch screen vs. 1080 on a 60 inch screen, it can be less sharp. So the only real way 4K is going to have that much of an impact is for TVs which are getting larger and larger.
Another sign of human decadence. |

Has nobody noticed the "Sony Digital 4K" notice right before any movie in at least the past 6 months or so? This isn't exactly a new groundbreaking thing.
That being said, cool. I don't really care all too much, though this will (eventually) lead to cheaper 1080p monitors, which I welcome.
