PS3 Game Suggestions
Does anyone know of any good games for the PS3 for this Christmas since that is when I'm getting it? Preferably not COD or war games since I hate them except maybe for Warhawk. >>; *shot*

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
Get Warhawk, heard it is good. And um... Guitar Hero 3. Or Rock Band, if you got some mates to play with.
Don't have a PS3, but this is what I heard is good. |

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
It really depends on what type of game you like.
The new Call of Duty is very popular as is Assassin's Creed. Guitar Hero has gotten ridiculously popular. Elder Scroll is very highly rated. Currently, the PS3 doesn't have a lot of outstanding titles, but people are expecting some in the future. Like the New Metal Gear Solid. |

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
This is probably the worst Sony console launch of the three, and I'm not saying that to be a hater as (quite frankly) I wanted a PS3 to play my PS2 games on and I was also hoping that the PS3 would carry on the tradition of "the unquestionable leader of the console wars" so that I could depend on it for my niche titles from companies like Atlus or for anime-related games. Like Loki mentioned, a lot of the "killer apps" for the PS3 that were promised over a year ago have still not seen the light of day -- two big examples being Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4.
If we want to compare the consoles (and compare them honestly), FF13 is going to be the #1 reason many PS3 owners become PS3 owners. Well, consider this: - Sony's #1 app, FF13, is not yet out and shows no signs of coming out any time soon - Microsoft's #1 app, Halo 3, came out Fall 2007 - Nintendo's #1 app, SSBB, will be coming out Spring 2008 It gets even worse when we allow examination of silver and bronze medalist titles ... - none of Sony's most desired games are out yet, and fans have had to brainwash themselves into crowning Resistance: Fall of Man as "their Halo," even though it doesn't come close - Microsoft's not only released Halo 3, they've also released DOA4 (at launch!) and Blue Dragon, the latter accounting for over 500,000 XBox 360 sales in Japan alone - Nintendo's #1 may still be unreleased, but their #2, 3, and 4 spots -- Metroid Prime 3, Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Mario Galaxy (in no particular order) -- each of which is a killer app in its own right! -- have all been released already. This puts the score at Nintendo - 3, Sony - 0 if you're talking "must-have games that I bought this console for." My advice? Look into some of the fun multiplatform titles that are for PS3 and XBox 360. I think Mass Effect is very popular and is on both consoles; Loki mentioned Assassin's Creed which a lot of people love (though the critics haven't been too welcoming, it seems); and if you don't have a PC good enough to play it then The Orange Box may be a consideration (although you'll need to download the PS3 patch from Valve since it's broken out-of-the-box ). The PS3 is by no means "a waste of $600" (although I do think it's too expensive still -_-), but you're going to have to wait a while to enjoy the same sort of "OMG GOTY! :O" fun factor that Nintendo and Microsoft fans are currently enjoying. No doubt about it, 2007 was a great year to own an XBox 360 or a Wii and a pretty horrible year to own a PS3. Things will hopefully change in 2008 and early 2009.

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
Talon, I think you're overestimating HALO 3. I got it. It sucks. It's at best 6 hours of fun. For me, it had another 2 hours of aggravation.
A lot of my friends agree. It's purely a game for online FPS competition. It's a considerably weaker AI than the enemies on Orange Box's HL2, HL2 ep1 & ep2., less fun of a shooter than Gears of War (Note: Gears is 3PS, so I don't rank it in the same category as FPS) and Bioshock has a much richer story compared to HALO 3's predictable... everything. It's only real saving grace is the online/network competition. If it didn't have that, it would have been the most boring shooter I've ever played. Ever. I also believe PS3 really failed at launch. Xbox 360 is kicking it's ass as the standard controller console goes. Wii beats it simply because of it's innovative and fun playing style. And considering a large number of previously Sony titles will no longer be exclusives to PS3 like Devil May Cry 4 and some others I can't remember, Xbox 360 is really making it an uphill battle for PS3. Additionally, Sony screwed themselves by making several high demanding games ALSO AVAILABLE FOR PS2! FFXII was PS2 and PS3 iirc. God of War 2 was PS2 and PS3. So why buy a $600 (at launch) PS3 when I can keep my PS2 and still play the same game? So unless they seriously pump out some exclusive PS3 high demand games, I really don't see Sony getting the king of consoles title back. |

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
Which is awesome, in a way, because it means the crown of Console King has finally returned to our shores. It's been decades -- in fact, one might say it was Nintendo's NES that stole the crown away to Japan and it's stayed there ever since. The Japanese gamers have become far too smug and cozy with their ownership of the crown, but despite their fierce (and petulant) opposition to the 360, it does indeed seem that the world is embracing an American video game machine. Thanks, Europe, for backing us up on this one.
If the Wii was able to meet demand, I think it would be creaming both the PS3 and XBox 360 in Japan and America. It seems to be purely an issue of limited supply and (much like what happened with the PS2 vs. the XBox at Christmas 2001) I fear that a lot of the hype for Wii has evolved into "negative hype" amongst the jaded fans who wanted a Wii and still haven't been able to get one. When this happened with the PS2, a lot of people hopped on board with the XBox; and this time around, there are even more alluring options to choose from amongst the PS3 and XBox 360. Maybe the littlest kids will cry on Christmas Day if Santa doesn't bring them a Wii but an XBox 360 instead, but I think most kids will get over it and develop XBox allegiance. Which ... sort of sucks. ^_^; (Since this is the wrong reason to go about loving a console! Just because you couldn't get the one you actually wanted!) I dunno. I stand by what I said, though. If you asked most people at E3 2006 what they thought the killer apps for the Wii would be, they'd have told you: Metroid, Zelda, a Mario platformer, and the SSB trequel. We've gotten three out of the four, and the console only just turned a year old. Three of the console's hottest titles for the rest of its life cycle (I don't think people appreciate the gravity of this statement!) all came out within the first year. This gives the Wii an incredible leg up over the competition from now (Dec 2007) all the way until the Wii is eclipsed by the next Nintendo console down the road. The console war (from 2001 onward) sure has been fun to watch. In one region, it was PS2 then GC then XBox. In another region, it was PS2 then XBox then GC. And in a third region, it was PS2 then XBox with GC barely selling. (lol @ Nintendo Europe) Now things are totally topsy turvy with the pecking order being Wii and PS3 too close to call due to S&D issues with the 360 still in distant third, the 360 in solid first place with Wii in 2nd and PS3 a distant 3rd, and again the 360 followed by the Wii and then the PS3. The XBox family went from 3-2-2 ranking status in Japan, USA, and Europe to 3-1-1 status, whereas the PS family went from 1-1-1 status to 1.5-3-3 status. I look forward to seeing what Sony will due next generation (even if it is a ways off still), how Microsoft will hold off on Sony as imminent price drops and the superiority of the PS3's technology become serious matters in 2008, 2009, and 2010, and whether Nintendo will ride this wave of success to reclaiming the 1-1-1 trans-national crown of gaming or whether they'll drop the ball like they did with the GC and return to an embarassing 3rd place.

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
Just because you think it's TL, DR; doesn't mean it's interesting. Anyway, I stated my suggestions. WAIT FOR THE POTENTIALLY COOL FUTURE!
Anyway, apparently in November 2008, there's a rumor saying FF7 Remake will come out then. That's something cool to wait for. |

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
This has been in the rumor mill from May 2006 ...
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/709/709775p1.html ... up through September 2007 ... http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3162613 ... and into the present day. Still, I wouldn't hold your breath for it. As much as fans nostalgically praise FF7, I think Square-Enix is more than aware that for most fans, the adventure's a "been there, done that" matter and that a remastered FF7 would prove to be a hard sell for many. I say for most fans; within the fanbase, I'm sure the most diehard of all would leap at the opportunity to play FF7 for the 389th time. In fact ... yep, I hear the PSOnes whurring to life even as we speak. ;) For me, the good thing about an FF7 remake would be Cloud's hair and Tifa Tifa Tifa. (She looked like a younger, sexier Sandra Bullock in the movie.) The bad thing about an FF7 remake would be Sephiroth's newly-acquired Marilyn Manson look (thanks a lot, Squenix) and Aeris's really funky ears. (Check out the scene in the movie where she exits the church at the very end; her ears are huge and misshapen!)

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
I have some sexy suggestions even though the first two are for the 360 and PS3. All of them are future titles as well ;_;
If you like insanely difficult action games, then Devil May Cry 4 is something you should pick up =D Sure, you will beat the **** out of your controller in frustration, but the moments that don't piss you off will be extremely fun. Actually, the first and the third ones were probably responsible for the insane jump in skill I have acquired. If you like having sex with zombies, then there's Resident Evil 5. RE 4 was the shiznit, and if it follows the greatness of it, then 5 will be just as awesome. Now, this is coming from someone who doesn't like shooters. Well, this probably won't come out for like three years, but there's Kingdom Hearts 3. I'm also not sure if this will be for the PS3 or not, but it is very likely. I'm sure that this will be just as, if not better than, Kingdom Hearts 2. I want a 360 and a Wii, but I currently have no desire for a PS3. I want a 360 because all of the Japanese RPGs are migrating towards this, and I want a Wii because I'm a Nintendo diehard. The only reason I see for me to get a PS3 is for FFXIII, KH3, and a possible remake of FFVII (Despite what Suigin said, I would love to play through this for the 300th time with better music and visuals ) |

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
Oh! If you have never played God Of War, you might find Heavenly Sword to be cool. If you have played God Of War, it will likely feel like an inferior and considerably shorter game with sexier looking gimmicks.
I swear, the two games are practically copypasta with giant pretty CGI scenes and higher end graphics. The story telling is exactly the same as well. It starts at the ending of the game, then rewinds a few days back to the beginning of the story. And the gameplay is practically the same. The only difference is simply the fact that the game slows down to show off Matrix style action. That gets boring and annoying real fast. And the main character has a vagoo. And don't use God Of War 2 as a point of reference. The story was retarded. It was Sony's greedy ploy to try and get another high selling title by rehashing the same game with a new idiotic story and inferior puzzles but practically the same things in every other field gameplay-wise. And the worst part was that it worked. Everyone who basically loved GoW bought GoW2 under the impression it would be just as awesome. |

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
Yeah now I'm going to get Warhawk and maybe GH3 if my sister gets it for herself. Meh not that interested in Rock Band except for the drums.
I also plan to get Assasin's Creed someday and Oblivion Game of the year edition in a while, if the prices drop now too. And Orange Box. >>; And yes I will get RE5 and FFXIII when they come out on the day they come out. I think I'll get GoWII instead of Heavenly Sword. Or just wait for the third one. Might just get Heavenly Sword to look at the..eeeh...graphics. Yeah Graphics. >> << *shot* jk but yeah might just get it. Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions

Re: PS3 Game Suggestions
Meh, I was a little bit worried about not actually owning a game physically too until I got the Wii and bought quite a few games on it, at least 80 dollars worth of games. Plan to get more Wii games online when they come out should one come out that I like. The same thing with the PS3. Will get Stardust HD or something like that online when I get access online with my PS3. Was also thinking of another game but forgot it's name.
Decided to go against buying Warhawk online or at my local store seeing as you can only play it online. Might get it someday but probably not anytime soon. But I got Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, The Orange Box, Elder's Scroll IV: Oblivion (Game of the Year), Dirt and Assassin's Creed, each $32.50 except for Dirt which I got for $30 dollars on Amazon. Also plan to buy Ninja Gaiden Sigma seeing as it's $39.99 on my local store and I have a $10 coupon so it'll be $29.99. =D Better than buying each game at it's full price of $65. >>;
