No really, is BoJo one of the greatest PMs in UK history?

Quotation marks around "great" to emphasize magnitude. I would have surmised the UK get cold feet and back out of Brexit sooner than boldly go where no other country has gone before.

He's still under the illusion Brexit will benefit us in some way.

He's good at winning elections. Timing of this one helped him substantially too - the public was contrasting him with his immediate predecessor (useless) and the Leader of the Opposition (also useless). I've had shits better qualified to be PM than BoJo but even I'd have voted for him over May and probably Corbyn (voted Green so as to avoid the decision, for what it's worth).

The deal he negotiated is demonstrably worse than Mays, but he's purged the Tories of any sanity by kicking our swathes of his MPs and sold it to the rest of his MPs on the basis that either a) it's getting them elected or b) some of them are stark raving bonkers racists so the worse the deal is, the better in their opinion because "fuck the EU".

We're now officially not an EU member but we're still bound by their rules until the end of the year under the transition period - all that actually changes til then is that we no longer have any say in what the EU do. If we can't get a decent deal by then though we're pretty fucked. *

*The existing deal with on the terms of our exit, not our future relationship with the EU. It kicked most of the thorny problems down the road until the end of this year whilst technically getting us out so as to get Brexit off the front pages of the papers for nine months or so. Electorally speaking a saavy move for the Tories, but a terrible one for the country.

Could you give insight into why BoJo invited Huawei to build out the UK's 5G infrastructure?

There is a US-wide ban on Huawei, but that wasn't initially government initiated. Huawei is the most stereotypical of Chinese predatory companies in that it appropriates IP by any means from all sources, improves it, patents the improvements and then litigates against the original patent holders. Huawei was banned in the US for stealing from T-Mobile and was in a dispute with Verizon over stuff Huawei patented that Verizon was already using.

The concerns in the US is that Huawei-designed antenna arrays or modems will intercept and relay information to China, essentially like a fibre tap used by the NSA to filter through internet backbone traffic.

To take an example from baseball, Huawei as the relayer for an email between two baseball teams then sells the contents of that email to any of the other 28 teams, because the email contents are also transmitted to servers in China. This means that any "Big Data" that is transmitted over the internet now becomes Chinese property, for them to accelerate their own analytics to whatever end the PRC is looking to in the future.

Huawei hardware is cheap and close to best-in-class, but it come with that huge asterisk. Trump understands this threat I think and has so enforced a government ban on Huawei. I can't imagine what BoJo would be thinking to invite them in knowing the US hates Huawei, and since the EU now hates the UK, you'd think he'd try to cozy up with the US.
