One of my classmates named Ashley came from that area. I did not recognize it at all. She called soda "pop" but that was the only distinguishing feature.

Well assuming this isn't a BS survey, then according to this, my dialect isn't much like the place I'm born and raised in (TN)! Though...I have similarities to California...OH GOD KILL ME! Admittedly, I think I mostly picked up the way I talk through television. I'd rather listen to that than the people I lived with. And they say TV makes you stupid! |

Sound like a westerner generally, several random places in Utah specifically, after the 25 question version.
A few questions I struggled with on account of the option not being available. A few I struggled with because the test is a weird of patch of well written and awful. Also why is there a name for October 30th? |

It's Mischief/Cabbage Night. Kids and teens looking for a reason to be up to no good go around TP'ing houses, smashing pumpkins, throwing eggs at houses, pretty much any kind of "lite" vandalism they can get away with. There was even an entire episode of Rocket Power about it, iirc.

I'm thinking this is more to do with how I say "Y'all" than any other factor, though I thought that it was my only trace of southerner-ism. though lol that dark blue New England, as if to say "no, you don't sound like this. not like this at all." Also NOW I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO READ CERTAIN USERS' POSTS IN NOTHING BUT THE HEAVIEST NEW ENGLAND ACCENT D:

Here's the result from a country where English isn't the native tongue of the inhabitants:
This is what happens if TV becomes you main (or only) way of English communication. We all speak like Hollywood I guess. My top 5 were all in California.

Can't seem to c+p my map, but it's a wonderful blue colour with a small patch of green in roughly over New York. I do have pretty much the stereotypical British accent though (albeit far from the poshest version of that accent, thankfully).
The Crayon question amused me the most, because "ahn", "awn" (the two options it gave me) and "on" (my actual answer) all sound incredibly different.

I wouldn't say that my accent is heavily towards New England. I don't sound like Rhode Islanders or people that live in Boston. Do any of you not consider yourself to have an accent at all?

I decided to try it for a size, see how a biligual-but-more-French Canadian would result out of it... Had a hard time with a few questions though... But anyways:
...Huh, interesting. I would've expected to get something close to Louisiana or Tennessee (as I've been exposed a lot to the English around there) or New York, Vermont or Maine (since it's the closest to where I live and I watched a lot of Vermont-based tv when I was little), but apparently I'm close to a Michigan accent/dialect for some reason ^^; Most Similar Cities 1. Warren MI 34.9 2. Toledo OH 34.5 3. Madison WI 34.2 4. Ann Arbor MI 34.2 5. Detroit MI 34.2 Least Similar Cities 1. Lowell MA 23.1 2. Bridgeport CT 23.2 3. New Haven CT 23.3 4. Plymouth MA 23.5 5. Waterbury CT 23.7 Perhaps I should try the 140-question one at some point. Edit... as soon as the servers stop being busy. Last edited by OkikuMew; 09-03-2013 at 11:18 AM. |

So I tried it again but with the 140-question version. Unfortunately I don't have time to upload the picture, but it game something completely different than what I had on the 35-question one ^^; It's extremely concentrated in south Florida, with some good dose of orange/red on the coast borders of California, south Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. The more you go to the north and away from the coasts, the more blue it gets... which is almost the opposite of what I got earlier XD I find it represents my English accent/dialect better though, minus the high concentration of Florida (although to be honest I don't know much about Floridian accent/dialect).

Believe it or not, that's why I didn't say "Maine accent," "New Yorker accent," or "Boston accent." It's sort of a collective "I now read your individual posts in your individual accents" statement.

Dave, your least similar city is higher than my most similar city. I think you're fine.
