YouTube Video Embedding
I have noticed that there seems to be a stacking problem with YouTube video embeds. Notably in threads like this one here where everyone and his mother wants to link to a YouTube video and flashily embed it directly into their post. It freezes up my browser now for increasingly noticeable lengths of time. At first there was no noticeable problem. Then I thought I noticed something but it wrote it off as me imagining things. Then it would cause things to slow down (though not freeze) for like a second. Then it would pretty much freeze the browser for a second. Now it's up to like two, three seconds. I suspect it's because what is happening is similar to if you tried to open twenty different YouTube videos simultaneously. You try that and tell me if your browser doesn't cry. ^^;
So, why post this thread? Well, first I'd just like confirmation that isn't just me on my end. 'Cause if it is, I'll just try and suck it up for now since there aren't that many threads where this has been a noticeable problem for me. But if it's affecting others as well, then that leads us to Purpose #2 in making this thread, which is ... Second, perhaps we might want to reserve the embedded YouTube video tag for isolated usage. Like in that random PASBL Time Out post where someone wants to link his friends to YouTube. Or like in that random Going to Hell post where the relevant material is on YouTube. Those would be fine and not impacted by any policy change. But for threads where people are clearly going to be linking to YouTube constantly, like the "What are you listening to now?" thread or the "Favorite Pokémon Music" thread, perhaps it's prudent that we have a polite, semi-formal policy in place that people use hyperlinks instead of YouTube embeds. Thoughts? Observations?

That thread does the same thing for me Talon, hence my general avoidance of it nowadays.

Hahaha I actually was originally going to make more of the links in my post embedded, but decided to cut it down to one so as not to overload/clutter. ^^;

Yup, I have the same problem; that's why the second post I made on the page was with hyperlinks instead of embedded videos.

I think a lot of the problem is solved by spoilers. Spoiler tags don't load the elements within them until the spoilers are opened, so that'd help threads with lots of YT links load faster.

Ooooooooooooor ... we could just implement a "let's not be assholes to one another ^-^" policy like I'm advocating and hyperlink YouTube videos in YouTube-heavy threads to begin with. ^^;
Not sure about your spoiler tag theory btw. I used to think that was how it worked too but I have noticed certain pages in Anime taking a long time to load presumably because of all the PhotoBucket pictures inside ... despite the fact that they're all in spoiler tags. I mean, you could be right. We could easily test it in a demo thread. But ... Why even bother spoiler tagging and then Youtube tagging? The whole point of YouTube tagging was "One less thing to click through before you see the video." But if you're going to put it inside a spoiler tag anyway, then it completely defeats the purpose as A becomes equivalent to B:

I enjoy embedded because they don't require me to leave UPN to see videos and terrible YouTube comments. I don't think it's an assholish move to post embedded videos, I see it as a courtesy to those who wish to do as I do. I do however see your point with threads like that.
I enjoy Jeri's idea personally to start using spoiler tags (or we could just hyperlink them!), but I havent noticed any problems in my browser (Chrome), so I don't know. I will personally still be embedding, but I won't do it in thread pages that are already cluttered with embeds. |

Pretty sure Firefox by default opens in a new tab rather than a new browser window. I know mine does.
Positive that most browsers these days allow you to toggle that option (open clicked links in new tab vs. in new window) so you might want to look into toggling that regardless. Basically, I reject your complaint on the grounds that you're browser-"doing it wrong." ^^; Though I do sympathize if that's what you've experienced up until now. But yeah, you need to toggle that, Yuki.
