Madoka’s Midnight Lycanroc, the more intimidating Lulu, sits near the main shrine building next to a sign.
“The following Pokemon may receive a special gift. Homemade with all natural ingredients (taste tested by Lala and Lulu). May it bring you luck and strength in the new year!”

Below the sign is a large bowl filled with bone shaped treats, wrapped in a charm made of red string. Lulu is drooling so much there is a puddle on the ground in front of her. Madoka promised her that she can have any leftovers, so she is keeping a Keen Eye to make sure nobody takes more than one.
Felicitous Fireworks
Though the fireworks for tonight’s show are safely behind the shrine and away from any stray Fire types, there is a collection of smaller fireworks for guests to pick up and play with. All kinds of fireworks from Roman Candles to Cherry Bombs are available for your enjoyment. They seem easy enough to light on their own. Trial Captain Marina is close by with her Simipour in case things get out of hand, but the two of them are delighted every time a particularly beautiful display goes off. She cheers and hands something to a group of children who used sparklers to write out their names. Perhaps you can create a display worthy of her praise as well?

The sun was down and the Stone Shrine was covered in a blanket of lights as the Lunar New Year festival was going in full force. Madoka and others had done a wonderful job adorning the area with decorations and lanterns, and being the year of the dog, canine Pokemon were spotted accompanying their trainers everywhere. Before he wanted to dive in to all of the fun and festivities, Gary felt it was best to pay his respects to the shrine first. He tightly gripped the hand of the Smeargle by his side as Buru looked around nervously. The bipedal canine wasn’t too good with crowds, so Gary wanted to make sure she had at least a little bit of fun before it was time for her to retreat to her Pokeball.

As Gary and Buru approached the shrine, they found one of Madoka’s most trusted guardians standing over a bowl of dog treats. It was Lulu the midnight Lycanroc, a creature that Buru stared up up with much less apprehension than the crowd of people behind her. Buru shyly reached into the bowl and pulled out a treat, nibbling on it while Gary paid his respects to the shrine. “You did a spectacular job setting this all up,” he said to Madoka with a smile and a wave as he passed her by. By now, Buru had finished her treat and was looking a bit tired. She was not one for the social life, and all of the commotion had tired her out. “Come on back, Buru,” Gary smiled as he returned her to her ball, replacing it with another. After tossing it into the air, a Houndoom appeared before Gary. Flare was about the polar opposite of Buru in disposition, and excitedly sniffed the air as she took in all of the excitement. “Alright girl, let’s go check out some stalls!”

“Not without us, you aren’t!” Suddenly both of Gary’s arms were grabbed as a blue haired girl dressed in matching kimonos walked beside him on either side. They were none other than Rina and Rain, the two twin younger sisters of the Cloud Garden’s trial captain Marina who had recently come to live at Gary’s aquarium observatory and study water Pokemon as his assistants. Rain, whose short hair remained unkempt as always, was adorned with a decorative flower, while the bespectacled Rina’s long hair was braided and tied up in an elegant style. “So how do we look?” Rain asked while pulling Gary’s arm closer. Gary hadn’t lived with them long, but he had already learned how to deal with the twins’ constant trolling and teasing. “Looks great,” he grinned as he ruffled up Rain’s hair. “Hey! How come you didn’t mess up Rina’s hair too?” Rain protested as Gary smirked, replying, “Because she looks like she put a lot of time into it, of course.” Rina chuckled and stuck her tongue out at her sister.

With Flare the Houndoom leading the way, the group stopped by at various stalls. Rain and Rina loaded up on food and forced Gary to watch them play games, while the Johto native stood by and waited his turn. Flare seemed most interested in the fireworks stand, her natural fire typing being attracted to the sparkles and the heat. Behind the stall was none other than Rain and Rina’s older sister, as the water specialist in Marina was on standby to put out any incidental fires. “Hey sis… look what we got!” Rain called out as the two twins grabbed Gary once again. Marina’s eyes narrowed, much less of a fan of the trolling than Gary, who just quietly chuckled. “Hey Marina, can we play with some sparklers? And maybe a little firecracker for my Houndoom to play with as well.” Marina smiled and handed them over.

As Flare pawed at the firecracker on the ground, pinning it under her paws as it shot out sparks, Rain and Rina swirled their sparklers in the air, creating a bright display. Once they were finished, the trio placed the sticks into the bucket of water. “You know, sis, when this is over, you could go watch the fireworks show with Gary,” Rina called out, loud enough for everyone to hear. Marina’s face went flush as she slapped her hand over Rina’s mouth. “Cut that out!” she reprimanded, looking over at Gary nervously, who pretended not to notice as he pat his Houndoom. “On second thought… Maybe we’ll keep him all to ourselves!” Rain giggled as the two grabbed Gary once again. “Hey!” Marina called out as Gary laughed, resigned to being treated like a ragdoll as the festivities ensued.

Doggy treat for Buru the Smeargle, and then visiting the fireworks with Flare the Houndoom!

In a secluded, much more quiet area of the shrine is a table. Upon it are small carved statues of Rockruff holding the character 福 in its mouth. A shrine maiden a bit younger than Madoka attends the table, patting the head of an actual Rockruff in her lap. The pup’s nametag reads “Cookie”. A box on the table is labeled “fortunes”, and looks impossible to open up and see what is inside. A nearby tree has several pieces of paper tied to its branches, and you can read bits and pieces of them. It seems other visitors have gotten fortunes ranging from “Great Blessing!” to “Great Curse”. Will you try your luck and see what the Stone Shrine will grant you this year?

I sadly don't have the time to RP, but Roxie will be checking out the Fortune table.

Though the sun had set, the festival had only just begun. People and Pokémon alike milled about: going from stall to stall or creating dazzling sparkler displays beneath a lattice of lanterns and canine-themed decorations. An electrifying energy filled the space, further stoking the excitement of the already enthusiastic crowd.

In short, it was quite the change from the last time Drew had been to the Cloud Garden.

Seated at a table near the edge of the rows of food vendors, Drew nibbled on the cinnamon bun he’d ‘bought’ from the stalls. If he was honest with himself, he hadn’t particularly wished to come to this, the somber mood that had struck him over the holidays still going strong. But his team had been excited about the festivities, and who was he to deny them some fun after months of being cooped up in their base? They’d all scattered upon arrival, determined to make the most of this respite from solitude.

Well, most of them, Drew corrected himself. The comforting weight of Sahara’s head against his leg reminded him that she’d stuck around. The most introverted and shy of the bunch, she’d been the only real dissenting voice to this trip, but, napping contently curled up to his side, even she seemed fine with the events. And, of course, there was Donnie. The grub had stuck to his shoulder at the start and had only left to stare enraptured at the (from a grub’s perspective) mountains of edibles. He currently was a few yards away, determinedly trying to get a dumpling recipe out of the stall’s operator. A bit futile, perhaps, with the language barrier, but such a thing as that didn’t deter the youngling.

A loud slurp brought Drew’s attention to the last one that had stuck with him. Floating opposite him telekinetically holding a fruity umbrellaed drink the same electric shade as his aura (and probably with more alcohol than he strictly speaking should have), Rotom drained his glass and brought it back down to the tabletop. Things had been tense, since their argument, and coming back to the Cloud Garden didn’t seem to be helping anything.

Quiet lulled over them, eventually broken when Drew exhaled drawn out sigh. The whole thing was stupid, a fight stoked by adrenaline that they were both too stubborn to apologize for. The literal new year had been too soon to do anything, the self-righteous anger still too evident. If there was ever a time to fix things, though, this was it.

“I’m sorry, y’know. For the crap I said.”

Rotom tensed at his sudden apology, noticeable from the moment of stillness that overtook his normally fluid form. Soon he relaxed though, a stiffness absent that Drew hadn’t really noticed until it was gone. “I’m sorry too. I crossed a line I shouldn’t have.”

Drew hummed, not denying it. Still, “I needed to hear it. It wasn’t as if you were really wrong. Denial as a defense mechanism seems to run strong for Boyds. Even when denying the denial.”

“Especially then,” Rotom instinctively deadpanned, freezing out of worry as soon as the words were out.

Drew smirked back, an olive branch if there ever was one. “Yeah, especially then.” He quickly grew somber. “Lunar New Year, though. Makes me wonder, about Celeste and Leo, how they’re doing. Haven’t heard from them in years. From a lot of the old crew really.”

The Plasma Pokémon shrugged in a ripple of electricity. “Eh, I’m sure they’re fine. They’re them, y’know?”

Drew hummed again, letting the quiet settle over them again. This time it was much more comfortable.

Naturally, that was when a small explosion happened out towards the center of the festival.

They all perked up, Sahara even sleepily raising her head, blinking sand from her eyes. “Please tell me that wasn’t one of ours,” Drew finally said after a beat.

“I think if you even have to say that it’s an answer in of itself.”

----------------

Elsewhere in the crowd, a small Pidgey found herself being dragged from the displays of sparklers and Cherry Bombs complaining all the way. With her feathers slightly singed and blackened enough with soot she bared an odd resemblance to the Murkrow guiding her away, the reasoning was not terribly hard to find.

“But-!” she protested, only to be cut off by a curt “No.”

“But it’s fireworks!”

“No.”

“It’s literally the perfect time to test out my newest batch of-”

“No Ace.”

“Aw, c’mon Unc! Just listen to me,” Ace whined, causing the corvid to whirl about to face her causing the sparkly jewelry draped around his neck and talons (which she knew hadn’t been there when they arrived, but also knew not to point out, especially now) to clink together.

“No, kid, you listen to *me*,” Corvin bit out, red eyes glittering with anger. “That was incredibly bone-headed. It’s one thing to do your explosives crap in your little cave lab, but in a fucking crowd? Use some god damn common sense for once in your life.”

The Pidgey shrank into herself. Shit, he was actually mad with her. Or worse, disappointed. “I had everything under control though, and no one got hurt!”

“Yeah, and you’re lucky for that. But next time you might not be. That’s why this,” Corvin said, grabbing the slim satchel containing Ace’s… goodies from around her torso, “is staying with me for the rest of the night.”

”What! No, that’s not fair, what am I supposed to do now-”

Corvin quieted her with a stern look. “Life’s not fair, kid. Go eat a fortune cookie or something.” He nodded to a small table saying something about cookie fortunes as he settled the bag around himself, ready to head back into the thick of things. He flapped up into the sky. “Don’t think we aren’t talking about this more when we get home, kid.” With that, he took off, yelling back to her, “And I’m not your damn uncle!”

Ace scowled as his figure vanished into the crowd. “Go eat a fortune cookie or something,” she repeated in a mocking tone. “Stupid fireworks. Stupid Unc.” Glancing between the main festivities she was exiled from and this Cookie’s Fortune whatever, she scowled harder. To the air, she said, “I’m not doing this because he said so. Screw him, there’s just nothing else to do.”

Flying over to the table, she found there weren’t even cookies.

Worst. Festival. Ever.

OOC: Ace (under protest) gets a fortune as everyone else has fun and an argument from something I still need to write (rip) is anticlimactically settled.

The smell of food wafts throughout the Shrine, but its overwhelming once you walk down the aisle lined with vendors. Huge dumplings, baskets of freshly picked berries straight from the Rose Garden, and all kinds of baked goods are proudly on display. And the best part? It’s all free! Vendors call out that their food will bring you great fortune this year, will make your Pokemon super powerful, or even make you insanely famous. It seems like a stretch, but everything definitely looks delicious.

Not going to have the time to think up a proper reply to this sadly. But I will be going to the Fortuitous Food Stalls with Mio the Pikachu.

Hiero wandered toward the secluded area of the shrine - it was quieter there, and that was what he preferred. He noticed the box on the table, and then looked to the shrine maiden and her Rockruff.

"Well," he said, "I suppose I'll go ahead and find out what the new year holds in store for me..."

Cloud Garden - Stone Shrine
Lunar New Year Festival

The trial captain of the Stone Shrine watched excitedly as guests poured into the main courtyard and quickly took to all the activities she had prepared. Madoka was glad the weather had cleared up, it would have been terrible to have everyone trudging around in the snow that covered the Cloud Garden weeks prior. She couldn’t stand and watch the crowd for too long, there was still much to do to make everything ran smoothly. She waved to Marina at the fireworks stand, then ducked inside one of the shrine buildings.

Year of the Dog

Lulu watched canine Pokemon of all shapes and sizes came up to her booth and selected a treat for themselves. She knew she could be a little intimdating, so she tried to tone it down a bit. The Lycanroc couldn’t help that her eyes glowed bright red in the dark. She worriedly observed the stock of treats depleting. Lulu knew she was doing a good job of guarding the precious treats, but there had been that rather shady character with a Stufful earlier…

Keith’s Slurpuff, Hush’s Absol, Austin's Swirlix, Hyrem’s Mightyena, Schala’s Poochyena, Jess’ Houndour, Melissa’s Growlithe, Belinda’s Rockruff, Kawaii’s Herdier, Tate’s Poochyena, Jayson’s Electrike, Alice’s Poochyena, Lucas’ Absol, Athena’s Snubbull, and Gary’s Smeargle have all gained 2 bond and 1 level!

Fortuitous Food Stalls

Missingno. Master: You and your hungry Slurpuff perused the stalls looking for something good. The problem was, everything looked good, especially to Cotton. A shop run by two old women noticed your drooling Slurpuff and laughed.
“I have just the thing!” One woman picked up something from the fryer in her stall and placed it into a basket. “Careful, they’re very hot, enjoy!”
The basket of three, plump dumplings were placed into your hands. Cotton was jumping up and down with excitement. As soon as he gets his paws on one, he digs in, but immediately makes a very displeased face. Cotton hands the dumpling back to you, and you see the source of his grimace. Instead of a normal filling such as vegetables or meat, the dumpling is filled with money! You crack open the other dumplings and find, to Cotton’s relief, they have edible fillings of vegetables and red bean paste. As Cotton finishes up the dumplings, you enjoy your blessings of good fortune and pocket the money.
You have received $500!

OkikuMew: You wander down the aisle of food vendors, your eyes peeled for something sweet. Although you were unable to locate actual Moon Cakes, you found a stall selling rice cakes shaped Lunatone and Solrock, how cute!
“These are based on Miss Madoka’s own Pokemon,” The vendor proudly explains. “They’re very powerful Pokemon, so they’ll bring your Pokemon power too!” He wraps up a pair for you and hands them over.
You have received a Rice Cake! Feed this to one Pokemon of your choice at the festival and they will gain a level.

Lil’twick: You and Twix wander through the lines of people waiting for food, trying to see what you might like to grab for yourself. There’s a particularly long line for a stand advertising bowls of noodles imported from Johto. It’s tempting, but with the way the line looks you aren’t sure if you’ll even make it to the front before the festival is over. Instead, you find a much shorter line close by. It doesn’t look very special; it only has a sign reading “Hand-picked Fruit”. “Fruit” looks like it was spelled wrong at first and was hastily scribbled out and re-written. The boy running the stall looks tired, but perks up a little as you approach.
“I spent all day getting these, so you have to appreciate them.” He basically tells you. He hands over a plastic bag full of berries. You take a look inside and find they are perfectly ripe, and smell pretty good.
You have received 5 Rindo Berries!

Severus Snope: Your curious nose has brought you to the crowded food stalls. There are many people calling out the names of their food, so much that it has just become sound at this point.
“Hey KID!” One voice in particular cuts through the crowd, especially when you realize its directed at you. There is a man leaning over the front of his stall, beckoning you over with a wave of his hand. “I made these just for you, no really, I mean it!”
Before you can say anything, a tray with a steaming hot dumpling is placed in your hand. You try to thank him but are pushed away by the stream of the crowd. Once you find a place to break off, you notice that there is a note tucked underneath the dumpling.
“Happy New Year! Buy yourself something nice, courtesy of The Really Great Dumpling Shop, visit us in Galea Town!”
You have received $500!

Naruxami: With Vinny and Ahri at your heels, you make your way through the Food Stalls fairly quickly. You had found what you were looking for, crispy Chun Juan, and a Nian Gao cake for your Pokemon. Even though you already had your hands full with food, vendors kept insisting that you take more. There came a point where people were just piling plates and baskets on top of everything, assuming you were taking the food to volunteers or something. Once you got to the end, you took a seat at a bench with your Pokemon and took a look at what you had actually grabbed. There was a ton of food, definitely more than you, Vinny, and Ahri could actually eat. A young woman ran up to you, holding something out in her hand.
“Excuse me sir, I think you dropped this!” She was out of breath, as if she had been chasing you down the entire line of stalls. “I saw you were carrying a lot, here you go!” She places it into your hand, and without another word disappears back into the crowd.
You have received $500!

Balmund: Patrons of the Lunar Festival cooed at your Rockruff as the two of you walked through the aisles of food vendors. Your Rockruff did not seem to notice, and was instead set of smelling everything she could. You lost track of her for a moment, she was just small enough to be obscured by a few people’s legs. Once you located her again, you found her wagging her tail happily as a young girl fed her some berries.
“Wow, it looks like she really likes these!” The girl exclaimed as your Rockruff continued to scarf them down. “Take some, I’m sure she’ll enjoy them later too!”
You have received 5 Passho Berries!

134: With two canine Pokemon at your side, you fit right in with the festivities. The food vendors must have taken note of these Pokemon’s excellent sense of smell, and made sure everything they were cooking smelled incredibly enticing. You found yourself struggling to keep up with Pouli and Ho‘olālā’s pace as they excitedly browsed each stand. They didn’t stay anywhere long, the two were looking for the perfect thing to sate their hunger. Pouli suddenly put her paws up on a table in front of a stall, startling the vendors. She wagged her tail happily, and Ho‘olālā joined her in a howl. This seemed to be their final decision. After recovering from the shock, the owners of the stall were happy to start giving your two Pokemon as much as they wanted. While your Poochyena and Houndoom enjoyed a savory pancake, you were handed a plate of stir fry.
“I make these with a special kind of berry from Sinnoh,” the vendor explained, “Maybe you can share them with your Pokemon later too!”
You have received 5 Charti Berries!

Median Dia: It wasn’t too strange to see two Pokemon on their own wandering through the Food Stalls. Some vendors even anticipated some of the braver wild Pokemon coming to see what was going on, and had left out bowls of food so that they would not have to interact with any humans. Louise absentmindedly chewed on the dumpling she was given, still lost in thought. Meanwhile, Sneachd had found himself surrounded by some teenage girls who were taking pictures and ruffling up his fluffy white fur.
“Leave that little one alone, ladies!” A scolding voice came, and the teens scattered in a flurry of giggles. An elderly man in the traditional garb of the Stone Shrine approached Sneachd sympathetically. “Here you go little one, may you grow strong this year.” The man placed a Rice Cake on the ground in front of the Alolan Vulpix, gave a small bow, and walked away.
You have received a Rice Cake! Feed this to one Pokemon of your choice at the festival and they will gain a level.

Heather: After taking care of the bones leftover from your food, you returned to the festival to find it still buzzing with energy. You reunite with your Pokemon and make your way back through the line of food vendors, aiming to return to the main area and decide where you might go next. Something bumped into you from behind and you suddenly felt someone grab your hand.
“Yue! You’re on stage next! What are-“ you were spun around to find yourself face to face with an angry looking lady. “Oh! I’m so sorry, I thought you were my daughter.” The woman immediately became flustered and started to apologize.
“Sorry! Here take this. And come watch my daughter dance before the fireworks ok!” She quickly hands you a silk bag full of berries and hurries away.
You have received 5 Lum Berries

Meetan: You and Maram finished up the food you had collected, then located some containers that were being given out so that you could take home even more. Rice cakes, egg custard, jellies, and candies quickly found their way into your possession, and even though you were pretty full you were excited to try them all later. You met up with Maram again at the end of the aisles, and found that she had a container of her own. Unlike yours, your Poochyena had chosen food of the same type. The plastic container she held delicately in her mouth was packed to the brim with berries. Looks like she had a one-track mind.
You have received 5 Lum Berries

Patches: Mio takes care to lead you through the Food Stalls without letting you get lost or caught up in any kind of shenanigans. The Pikachu is interested herself in trying something delicious, and tries to get you to check out some particularly interesting stalls advertising food from different regions.
“Little Pikachu!” A man’s voice calls. He looks to be one of those Pokefans, and even has a little girl in a carrier on his chest dressed up in a Pikachu outfit. Everything at his stall is Pikachu themed, it’s almost obnoxious. Mio seems hesitant, but the two of you approach the stall and are immediately handed several Pikachu-shaped food items. You even receive some noodles that have been dyed yellow with food coloring. Mio is overwhelmed with the number of things she receives, but seems particularly interested in a rice cake shaped like her tail.
You have received a Rice Cake! Feed this to one Pokemon of your choice at the festival and they will gain a level.

Felicitous Fireworks

myaoo: You and your Pokemon begin to dig through the boxes of fireworks, searching for the kind you think you’ll have the most fun with. You hear a bark from Growlithe and look up to see she’s found them! She has a long chain of baozhu in her mouth, tightly packed firecrackers encased in red and gold. You set them on the ground a safe distance away, then direct your Growlithe to perform a fire attack and light up the fuse. In seconds, the capsules begin to pop and fizzle, creating quick flashes and loud crackles. Growlithe and Prince danced around the firework, cheering and wagging their tails. The last capsule of the firework explodes, and the trial captain Marina approaches you.
“Your Pokemon look like they had so much fun!” She says, delighted. “Here you go!”
You have received a Rare Candy!

biggggg5: You place The Final Flash on the ground, and surround it with several smaller roman candles you were handed. Marina raised an eyebrow at you. Her Simipour looked a bit tense at the size of the huge firework Hotstuff was about to light. You all back off as the firework begins to smoke. With a hiss and a pop, the first flare shoots up. A second one follows close behind, and then they start coming in a rapid stream. The smaller roman candles catch soon after and they begin shooting out sparks into the air. A cloud of smoke has formed above your collection of fireworks, and within it is a spectacular show of reds, oranges, and yellows. Once it is safe, Marina makes her way over to you.
“I was a bit worried about that big one, but that was really cool!” Marina laughs a bit nervously. She hands you a red disc and wishes you a happy new year.
You have received TM 38 Fire Blast!

Raves: Marina gives you a thumbs up as you light the Catherine Wheel. She can tell you and your Wimpod are rather nervous, but her big smile puts you at ease. Simipour looks ready to douse anything that got even a bit out of control. After a few moments, the firework lights up, making a loud hiss as the fire was spun. The flares flashed red and purple, with flecks of yellow dancing off of the firework. Once it created a steady circle, it started to pop and crackle. Marina clapped excitedly, the crackling was her favorite part. The fuse had reached the other fireworks you had set up, which went off with three huge BOOMs. It startled even Marina, but she was laughing by the time it was all over.
“You ok?” She checked in on you and your Wimpod. “Take this as a reminder of your great display!”
You have received TM 64 Explosion!

Stitches: You gather up a couple different types of fireworks and set them up in a circle. Roman candles, bottle rockets, and a branded firework just called “Pyroar”. You light them one by one, which maybe was a bad idea. The first roman candle you lit starts exploding before you get a chance to finish lighting the last “Pyroar” firework. You take cover before you get hit by any of the flares, and watch as the roman candle falls over and fizzles to a halt. The bottle rocket lets out a small pop, but nothing ends up exploding from it. Finally, the Pyroar’s fuse is blown out by a gust of wind before you can even figure out what it is supposed to do.
“Oh no…Sorry, some of these fireworks aren’t very good,” Marina tells you sympathetically. She picks up the roman candle and shakes it out a bit, collecting something in her hand. “This is good for Fire-types, maybe you can use it?”
You have received a Charcoal!

Ex-Admiral Insane: Your Absol retrieves a firework from one of the boxes and presents it to you. It has the image of a Seviper on the packaging. You take the firework out, a few small cylinders that look like they have already been burnt up. Carefully, you light the fireworks and take a few steps back. After a few moments, the cylinders begin to grow. As it burns, black tendrils burst forth, as if it was suddenly creating several coiling Seviper. The fire burned brighter, and created the appearance of the black serpents emerging from the pits of hell. It took a while to go out, but when it finally did Marina was cheering.
“That one was so cool! I haven’t seen it before!” She said while her Simipour doused and cleaned up the ashes. Marina hands you a disc and encourages you to check out the rest of the festival.
You have received TM 64 Explosion!

Sandaa: Marina had a big smile on her face as she watched Flare, Rain, and Rina play with the fireworks. Your Houndoom was definitely the most involved, chasing every flare and spark that exploded from her firework. She tried to grab the sparklers out of the twins hands, making them laugh and run away. As Rain and Rina ran, their sparklers made a colorful trail of light and smoke. It might not have been the fanciest fireworks display, but Marina could tell they were having the most fun. The twins teased Marina, leaving her so flustered that she almost forgot to give you a prize. Before Rain and Rina could drag you away, she hastily grabbed a piece of candy and placed it in your hand.
You have received a Rare Candy!

Cookie’s Fortunes

As each trainer approaches Cookie at his table of fortune telling, he jumps up and grabs on to a leather handle on a plain looking box. As if he were playing with a toy, the Rockruff violently shakes the box back and forth. The box rattles with the movement, and eventually a rolled piece of paper tumbles out.
“Good boy Cookie!” The shrine maiden attending the booth praises. She hands you the paper, as well as a prize corresponding to your fortune.

Maskerade:
BAD FORTUNE

「Trouble will come to you repeatedly, so you may feel discouraged.
Wishes may go unrealized.
Even if you wish to see the moon, it is behind the clouds.

Now is not a good time to make a big purchase. Lost articles will not be found. The person or thing you are waiting for will not come. 」
“Ohh too bad!” The shrine maiden sighs. “Maybe next time you’ll get a better one? We’re here year-round you know!” She hands you a package with the Stone Shrine seal printed on a sticker covering the plastic. Inside is a root that your Absol immediately looks displeased by.
You have received an Energy Root!

Marion Ette:
GOOD FORTUNE

「You will remain with your wealth and your happiness.
After some hardship, you can meet a delightful face with a smile like flowers.
Even Flying-types need to take a rest.

Now is a good time to take a trip. Be careful when building a new home or relationship. It may take a while to recover from illness, but you will be safe. 」

“How nice!” The shrine maiden gives Cookie a delighted pat. “I hope the rest of your evening is good too!” She hands over a couple Pokeballs and wishes you well.
You have received 2 Timer Balls!

GeminiSpark:
GREAT FORTUNE

「By relying upon another person in a higher rank to succeed will help you rise in the world.
Just like Snover always stays green, never change your mind and keep true to yourself.
There is fortune and happiness in your future.

Illness will not befall you. It is a great time to start a new adventure. The person or thing you are waiting for will arrive to you soon. 」
“That’s fantastic! Like, wow!” The shrine maiden laughs. “I like the part about Snover…you know I saw one the other day, they’re not native to here though I think…” She trails off as she hands over a few Pokeballs from the prize bin.
You have received 2 Friend Balls!

Schala:
GREAT FORTUNE

「Encourage yourself and you will be fortunate.
Travelling by boat will bring you many treasures.
With the recommendation by your seniors, you will do a good job.

Your hopes will come true. It is a good time to build a new home or relationship. You do not need to worry about losing precious objects.」
“Wow, travelling by boat huh?” The shrine maiden takes a moment to retrieve your prize. “Ooh! These are festive. Maybe you can catch some really cool Pokemon with these? I dunno, I’m not much of a trainer!” She laughs and hands you a few Pokeballs.
You have received 2 Moon Balls!

lilbluecorsola
GOOD FORTUNE

「Wash off the bad things from the past, now everything is clear and clean.
Encounters with Fighting-types will go well.
Believe in your partners and, with careful decisions, happiness will prevail.

Make proper preparations before going on a trip. Now may not be the best time to build anything. The person or thing you are waiting for will arrive late. 」
“Believing in your partners, that’s something every trainer should do right?” The shrine maiden muses. She hugs the Rockruff tightly. “I believe in you Cookie!” After Cookie scrambles away, she hands you a couple Pokeballs.
You have received 2 Repeat Balls!

IronThunder:
GREAT FORTUNE

「Like Mega Sableye, your gem has no flaws and it will glisten more with polish.
Wealth and treasures will be in your hands as you wish.
Be good and faithful, try not to get lost in love.

Your wish will be granted sooner than you expect. In regards to travel, the sooner the better. Those near you will quickly recover from illnesses.」
“Ohh this one is romantic…I think…” The shrine maiden ponders as she reads over your fortune. “Maybe this will help, hehe”. She hands over bright, pink Pokeballs with a smile.
You have received 2 Love Balls!

Kawaiiconcept:
BAD FORTUNE

「After climbing mountains, you will not feel at ease.
You may come upon a big river, but with no boat to cross it by.
Beware of fire and thieves.

It is best to wait when it comes to building a new home or relationship. A lost item will be hard to find. Do not rush matters when it comes to money.」
“Aw, well don’t fret too much,” The shrine maiden comforts you. “You know if you follow those suggestions at the end, you should be ok. I think. I don’t write these, so…” She gives you a packaged herb with the Stone Shrine seal on it. At least the herbs look fresh.
You have received a Revival Herb!

TheKnightsFury:
GOOD FORTUNE

「Nothing lasts long without effort, make sure to keep working hard.
Things could be too good, which may lead to trouble.
You have bright prospects, and will come to realize your true strength.

Lost items will not be found. Relationships of any kind will be well. There is no need to be in a hurry to sell or buy.」
“These get so philosophical sometimes, it’s like, hard to understand?” The shrine maiden cocks her head and Cookie follows suit. “Hopefully you can figure it out.” She shrugs and hands you a couple Pokeballs as your prize.
You have received 2 Nest Balls!

EpicSquirtle:
GREAT FORTUNE

「The key to success is not to give up until the end.
Everything turns out to be better, just like the sun shines all day long.
Happiness will come to you just like using Cut in a rice field.

Those with illness will recover. Your wishes will be realized very soon. The person or thing you are waiting for will arrive within the next day. 」
“There’s a guy here that can teach Cut to your Pokemon!” The shrine maiden informs you. “He’s a really buff dude name Samuel, sometimes he brings us firewood and stuff.” While Cookie begs for more pets, she digs in the prize bin and pulls out a couple Pokeballs for you.
You have received 2 Level Balls

Rotom310:
BAD FORTUNE

「Though it may look silent and peaceful, a problem will appear.
Half of a red flower has become decayed.
Be warned to not think of excessive desire.

It is a bad time to start a trip. Building a new home or relationship may end in disaster. Your requests will take a long time to be granted.」
“I hate giving out the bad ones!” The shrine maiden whines. “I’ll just blame Cookie, give a nicer one next time ok!” She jokingly scolds the Rockruff, who just wags his tail in response. The girl hands over a package of herbs with the Stone Shrine seal neatly printed on the plastic.
You have received an Energy Powder!

Deoxys:
GREAT FORTUNE

「When spring comes, flowers bloom on old branches.
Believe in your team earnestly, and everything will become joyous.
Treasures involving travel will come to your home.

It is the best time to start an adventure. Your wishes will be granted. Relationships of any kind will thrive. 」
“Ugh I can’t wait for spring!” The shrine maiden shivers. “It’s too cold! Anyway, here you go. And hey, do you think you could bring me some food later? Cookie and I are starving!” The girl looks at you pleadingly as she hands you a couple Pokeballs.
You have received 2 Lure Balls!

The festival ended with a huge finale of fireworks as a troupe of young women performed a traditional dance. A few young martial art students donned a Arcanine costume and danced across the stage, mimicking the Pokemon’s fierce capability in battle and spreading luck throughout the crowd. The sound of the last firework rung out and people began to gather their things to head home. Madoka hurried to the Torii gate at the front of the shrine, dragging a heavy bag behind her. The trial captain made sure to thank each guest and hand them a Red Envelope before they left. At the end of the night, she leaned against a Stone Lantern, exhausted but satisfied with how well the festival went. Joined by her twin Lycanroc, she retreated back to her cabin for the night. Cleaning could wait until morning, right?

Everyone receives a Red Envelope containing $500!

Thank you everyone for your participation in the Cloud Garden Lunar Festival! I had a lot of fun with this and I hope you did too. Just as a note, all prizes were chosen using RNG. The fortune telling was really just for fun, but maybe you can find some meaning from it! 恭禧发财 – Happy Lunar New Year!

Fortuitous Food Stalls

morningstar - After getting his special treat from the Year of the Dog booth and being restricted to only one treat, Choux only had one thing in mind. He needed more food, pronto. His small body made it easy for him to maneuver through the crowd of other people and Pokemon that were there to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Following his nose, he was heading straight for the Fortuitous Food Stalls. That is, until you picked him up. He was annoyed that he was stopped but you were too concerned with the fact that Melba was no nowhere to be found. "Oh you poor poor thing. To be separated from your Pokemon during such a happy celebration." An older woman running a stall that sells delicious looking dumplings frowns and almost seems more upset by your story than you are as you stand there slurping your noodles.

"Ow…! Waaaaaaaa!!" Suddenly a cry breaks through the crowd, it sounds like a little girl and you can't help but feel drawn to the sad sound. You immediately go in the direction of the cry only to find that the little girl is clutching her hand to her chest while standing right next to none other than Melba! The girl's mother is bending down giving her a mini lecture. "Sweetheart, you should never touch someone else's Pokemon without permission. This is what can happen!" The mother then notices by your body language that the Pokemon appears to belong to you. "Oh miss, is this your Pokemon? Don't mind my daughter, I think she was shocked by some of your Mareep's Static but she'll be just fine, that's how children learn!" The little girl approaches you with tears still in her eyes while bashfully avoiding eye contact and kicking at the ground. "I'm sorry I pet her without permission… I just think she's really pretty…" Suddenly the older woman from earlier approaches with a big smile. "Oh this exchange just warms my heart! Here! As thank you for coming out here on this fine day and celebrating with us!" She hands you a plate of Dumplings which you try and balance along with the noodles that you still have left. You're feeling a strong sense of calm happiness, you could sense that this year was going to be full of a lot of good fortune.

You have received $500

Spoiler: show
They'd set aside a few more fireworks when Growlithe found what she figured Melissa had been looking for. She pulled it out of the pile and brought it over to the pile with a muffled bark.

Melissa glanced over and grinned. "Hey, where'd you find those?"

Growlithe put the string of firecrackers down and glanced back at the pile.

"Ah, buried under all the others?" Growlithe barked an affirmative. "Well, no wonder we couldn't find them then." Melissa glanced at the fireworks they'd picked out before shrugging. "Eh, we can always set those off later."

She looked around for a branch or stick of some sort to tie them up on and thanked Prince when he trotted back with one, tying the firecrackers to one end and then sticking it out into the clearing.

"Go ahead," she said to her Pokémon, nodding at the firecrackers.

Growlithe hesitated and glanced at Prince, who looked back at her and then shot a single ember at the trailing fuse. The firecrackers quickly started going off, popping loud enough to echo, and Melissa strained to hold the stick steady. Growlithe and Prince winced as the first few pops went off, shaking their heads at the sound, but Growlithe couldn't help wagging her tail at the sight. Prince nodded in satisfaction once the last pop went off, both for the display and for the abrupt quiet now that the firecrackers had all exploded.

The Stone Shrine's trial captain walked over as they were contemplating the other fireworks. "Your Pokémon look like they had so much fun! Here you go!" She handed Melissa a Rare Candy and wandered off to talk to someone else.

Melissa blinked at the Rare Candy, exchanged glances with her Pokémon, and looked over at the fireworks they'd set aside. "I...guess we can't shoot off any more?" Growlithe whined and Prince made a face. Melissa glanced around at some of the other visitors and decided why not. "Well, she didn't say we couldn't..."

They set off the fireworks they'd set aside and then visited the other attractions. Nian gao and mien, for sure, and Melissa curiously poked around to see if any of the stalls had shark fin soup. None of them did, but she found little red-bean-filled rice balls in soup and got a bowl of that. For fun, she got a fortune, but it was too ambiguous to make heads or tails of, so she just tucked it into her pocket and continued on.

Eventually, they had to head back home and the trial captain handed Melissa a hong bao at the gate. Surprised, Melissa placed her right hand over her left fist and nodded with a "Gong xi, gong xi," before taking the hong bao and heading through.

"Huh. I didn't expect that." She glanced back and then opened the hong bao to see how much was inside. $500, it looked like. Not bad. "Well, let's head back home, so I can fish the rest of the hong bao out from under my pillow and take that all to the bank."

Fortuitous Food Stalls

Everyone receives a Red Envelope containing $500!
In receiving her fortune, Kijo found it odd that flying types were being invoked in her fortune. If she had to give herself a type, like a Pokemon, she always saw herself as a fighter, if anything... Maybe dual fighting/dark. Wings, journeys, flight - a tired bird finding rest among a field of blossoms - images briefly flash in her mind, but do not stay long enough for Kijo to fully grasp them. She was never the philosophical type, and whatever meaning the fortune was trying to convey, it seemed just out of reach...

Well, at least the word "GOOD FORTUNE" was in big letters across the top, so at least that bit of consolation was there for her.

"Likewise," Kijo responds to the Shrine Maiden's hopes that she will have a good evening gruffly, but kindly. Before she turns to go, she feels a tug at her pocket - instinctively readying her fist to knock the thief out, she realizes that little Bia is the one doing the pilfering. The dog biscuit Kijo had taken earlier at Bia's request is plucked by the mischievous bear, and placed directly in front of Cookie with a happy squeak.

"What gives? I thought that was for Houndour."

Bia turns to the plush, then shakes her head and makes a motion to Cookie.

"Oh? Houndour wants Cookie to have the treat, after all that?"

Bia nods, smiling that her trainer caught on so quickly. Kijo smacks her forehead with frustration, preparing a snappy retort for her Stufful's plush friend... but instead, she goes deadly silent.

"Well, Cookie - guess it's your lucky day, now," she says quickly, before motioning for Bia to leave with her. The bear dutifully picks up her plushie by the collar and trots away.

"Bia, when we get home, I'd like to have a talk with your little friend... alone," Kijo growls. Bia gulps with dread, but still nods, albeit hesitantly.

Kijo does not respond, instead falling deeper into her thoughts. There was no mistaking it. Inexplicable as it was, it was undeniable all the same. Clear as crystal, plain as day. That Houndour... those cheap, plastic eyes... something about them. She couldn't prove it, but she knew it, deep in her bones. Those eyes, somehow, were able to see...

...and they were staring at her.

Claiming two Timer Balls and $500. Thank you~!!

"Melbaaa!" Athena called after gulping down a few more noodles and a piece of fish cake. Her call is answerd by a child's cry. "Oh no." Athena assumed the worst. She and Choux pushed their way through the crowd to the source of the cries. Melba was standing in front of a little girl, wagging her tail back in forth happily but looking confused at the girl's tears.
"I'm sorry I pet her without permission… I just think she's really pretty…" The girl apologized. Athena smiled a bit.
"That's ok," Athena shook her head. "I should have kept a better eye on Melba." Melba bleats and rubs herself against her trainer's leg, making Athen'as hair stand on end. An older woman she had seen earlier while looking for Melba approached Athena with a steaming dumpling, which the trainer took gladly.
"Thank you, happy new year!" She addressed the old woman as well as the little girl and her mother. Athena herded Melba and Choux to a nearby bench and split the dumpling into thirds.
"Here's to a lot of good luck for us this year!" She declared. Choux ate the outside of the dumpling but neglected the vegetables inside. Melba happily at his leftovers.

Choux grew to level 17!
Choux's bond increased by 2!

Claiming my $1000. Thank you Patches!!

Fortuitous Food Stalls

Felicitous Fireworks

Thank you for the cute event, Star! I'll be feeding my rice cake to Mio the Pikachu raising her from level 10 to level 11 and I'm also claiming the $500!

Claiming all my stuff, thank you!
