Is there an ongoing periodical similar to Smogon's discontinued magazine, The Smog? Whether it's on Reddit, Tumblr, Serebii, you name it: I'd like to take a look at it if one exists.

To be fucking adorable. OF which there is no equal.

(Yeah if I really cared I'd sub it for Lapras.)

Sort of? Here's info on The Flying Press. I'm not subscribed so I can't really say how similar it is to the Smog.

  • Was Choice Band always his hold item? Or was it Tricked onto him?
  • Did his trainer deliberately order an Attack-boosting move while Choice Band was held?
  • Did any of his teammates have Baton Pass?
  • Did any of his teammates have Skill Swap, and was this not a Singles battle?
'Cause like ... maybe he had Moxie and then he lost Moxie for Early Bird later. Or maybe he was using Swords Dance @ Life Orb and then got screwed by a Tricked-on Choice Band? Who knows.

One thing's almost certain: next to no one here is going to know based off of the stats without cheating. From memory, but also looking up the list of Early Bird Pokémon (so I'm already out of the running), the stats strongly suggest {spoiler} (because of the high Attack and high Speed, the Speed is the higher of the two stats, and the paltry other stats), but for all I know it's someone else with Early Bird.

Spoiler: show
Dodrio

If the answer is {spoiler}, then the mystery of the Attack boost is likely answered by a Baton Passing teammate. Not really sure how else {spoiler} would get all those Attack boosts.

Agreeing with Talon:
Spoiler: show
Out of Pokemon with Early Bird, A Jolly 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Dodrio's stats match this perfectly. This Jolteon is at +4 Atk (x3 multiplier) with an added x1.5 from Choice Band. So yeah, you have a Pokemon that uses Swords Dance twice then Baton Passes to Dodrio, who is holding Choice Band. Detective Talon and his dashing assistant phoopes on the case.

Haven't done much PS in a while but you guys discussing all these games recently, I just popped on for one quick game of 6v6 Singles Random.

A stand-off between checks. (Random Battle, 23 turns)

Spoiler: show
My sixth Pokémon was a physical Cradily. Rock Slide, Seed Bomb, Toxic, and something else. (Possibly Recover, possibly Curse, not sure.)

I had mostly physical Pokémon, so his Avalugg was a good check to my team in general. Even Hitmonchan with his STAB Fighting attacks has to worry about STAB Avalanche.

But he had a team, it ended up turning out, of mostly Pokémon that are weak to Fighting. So so long as I could keep Hitmonchan alive and get him set up, I should have been golden.

So for me, it was a matter of getting Hitmonchan back out there, which required Cresselia and Amoongus to die, two excellent answers to Hitmonchan.

And for him, it was a matter of getting rid of my Hitmonchan, itself an answer to two-thirds of his team.

Of course I couldn't know that it was Hitmonchan specifically he needed dead, as opposed to Abomasnow or Kyurem, until the fight was winding down. But around the final third of the match, it became clear what was going on. Once he sent Avalugg back out to die, after Amoongus's death, it was clear that he had nothing and that Hitmonchan had been the one he was trying to get rid of all along.

I win 5-0, but the score could have just as easily been 0-4 had things in the midgame evolved differently. This felt like a "kill or be killed" match from relatively early on rather than feeling like the "tit for tat" 1-0s and 0-1s we so often see.

Megahorn Custard (Random Battle, 29 turns)

Spoiler: show
The Megahorn miss sucked.

The false hope given by the Custap Berry sucked even more though. ^^; 1% ... He hung on with just 1% HP remaining. *sigh*

Good for him. You could tell he was excited by that ending.

Super Luck + Scope Lens = does that have like a 100% critical hit rate now or something?

Super Luck + Scope Lens iirc brings you to Stage 2, which isn't 100% but is still really high, like maybe 50%? You need to be stage 3 (i.e. Focus Energy + Scope Lens) to have 100% crits.

Yeah now you see why I love Kingdrifle and KritKrow to death, because who needs Frost Breath or Storm Throw when you can get to that Crit stage just by abusing boosts?

Guys ... I only wondered if Super Luck had been boosted an additional level. Y'all are acting like I don't know a thing about crithax strategies in Gen 6. Must I remind you --

Unfortunately both are really bad sets and both Honchkrow and Kingdra have sets they'd rather use.

Substitute and Encore: Both very powerful moves when used correctly.

I will admit: its not often I get the Encore user. While my opponent made a huge mistake in using Altaria to set-up and I did get lucky with that Hurricane, I think I did pretty well all things considered and was able to go 4-0 just be using three Pokemon (the other three were Slurpuff, Garbodor, and Galvantula).

Was there a reason you never used Latias to absorb Hi Jump Kicks?

Too worried about Ice Punches ;v; I was really glad Medicham didn't have Bullet Punch though!

But your opponent was so obvious about wanting to just HJK everything :x idk, you still won so it clearly wasn't as important as it could have been, but it would have made the Serperior fight a lot comfier to be able to threaten a Sap Sipper guy.

edit: especially since your pattern was obvious as well. he didn't have any way of dealing with it, but if he did he coulda made you sad!

I rewatched my video, I'm pretty sure my way of thinking was to keep Latias alive because she could tank Serperior and she was faster than Medicham! I let Golduck go because lol water type, Darmanitan wasn't faster than any of his pokemon and neither was Stantler I think? I feel like Stantler either had Life Orb or Choice Band.I only kept Crustle because he had Sturdy so I knew for sure he could survive a Hi Jump Kick in case Latias went down.

Either way you're right, it isn't that important anyway because I still won \o/

The minute I saw Nasty Plot I thought "wait a second, either Phione is so godawful it hasn't boosting moves if that caliber or it got a gift from Manaphy in Tail Glow. Something's up here!"
