This conversation lead me to a link, which said there was major restructuring in 2006. But, still, this doesn't shake the memory I have of hearing E3 was going to be canceled a few years back. I certainly remember reading an IGN article that brought it up, so it couldn't have been fictitious.

Either way...from all the commentary it looks like old E3 was better than new E3. Isn't that how things always are? :X

Old E3 was better, from what I gather. I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure it was cancelled for one year. They decided since it was public, way to many people came and it was overcrowded, so they split it into two. E for All, which is basically the same, but is instead held in October, and E3, also basically the same, but a lot less people, and focused on each companies future direction, upcoming games, etc.

I remember it being cancelled, too, and could have sworn that there was no E3 in 2007 and that the one in 2008 was the first one since it returned (and it stunk). But who knows. Who knows ...

Got curious and looked it up, E3 cancellation was announced July 30, 2006 on sites like IGN, so I assume it was only gone in 2007.
