I guess all that proves is one of two things. Either a) the regular rules don't apply to a society without power or else b) no store is safe during widespread power outages.

I'm so bored....it keeps raining violently and then it stops raining and then it rains again...I don't want to start anything online for fear I'm going to have a power outage before I'm done...
I hear we get 60mph winds tomorrow, should be fun!

Well, without power, there's no alarm system, but if someone sees an employee inside, they will start to think whether it's worthwhile to try something or not.
For example: there is a volunteer Auxiliary Police Force which is actually normal civilians given a baton, minor training, and a uniform similar to that of an actual officer. They patrol certain areas simply to create the illusion that a police officer is there, but if an actual crime were to happen, the Auxiliary officer can't really do anything except call for a real cop. EDIT: Btw, there's no rain in NY yet. Not heavy enough that it's more than a droplet once every few minutes. The winds are getting a bit heavy though. |

It's raining pretty bad here already, and the worst of it isn't even supposed to hit until tonight. School got cancelled for me today, so I would imagine that that would be the case for tomorrow as well, and possibly Wednesday. Luckily, my power hasn't gone out yet, but I'm thinking that it probably will tonight based off my past experiences with storms. This is by far the worst one that will have ever hit us while I've been alive.

I'm okay over here in NYC for now, but a friend reports that there were no one on the streets on Sunday. Now genuinely worried.

I just basically went around the block to the big street I live near. There were crazy winds with the high pitched wooshing noises you only really hear in movies or video games. Rain was falling horizontally at some points. I was just walking along like lalala, like nothing is wrong. A guy driving by just gave me the weirdest look because I didn't give a crap about anything. I live at an intersection of 2 big streets and there was nothing there. There's usually people or cars but.. now there was just nothing. Even the parking lots/sideway parking was desolate. The stores were closed but that's obvious. So eerie.
I walked back and took a pic but not at that big intersection. I didn't want to have my phone get drenched. I'll post the pic some other time cause I'm kinda lazy. Nothing really amazing about it but I just wanted a picture of it I guess. My story isn't that interesting either but.. eh. I only saw a few cars and a number of emergency vehicles. |

I wonder what the pigeons are doing to keep safe. A human being is heavy enough to lean into the wind and fight it but I wonder about those birds ...
*cue Daisy making a D: face at the thought of birds being blown away* *insert obligatory YouTube video of ducklings being blown by the wind*

Funny you bring that up. Yesterday I saw a bird try to fly forward. Yes. Try. It was totally going backwards lol.

So I hear Atlantic City NJ is under water and part of it's boardwalk is completely gone.
Over here in Cincinnati we're getting a shit ton of wind, I'm actually a little surprised, wasn't expecting that. Also turns out southeast KY is going to get 7-10 inches of snow. Damn. |

Decidedly Epic
|
This seems intense. I live nowhere near the East Coast, but from what I've heard on the radio, it sounds pretty bad. In fact, a little while ago, the radio news guy said that Sandy could combine with nearby storms to become an "epic superstorm". How many times do news people say epic?
Anyway, those of you in the path, good luck, hope you guys make it through.

Aww, the MidWest looks so dead in the Sandy snapshot. *shakes fist at the cold*

A cold spell settled here in the Deep South, too. It's kind of weird...the sun is hot, but it's freezing outside, so you sweat, and the sweat instantly freezes!
