Loch Bygone Raid Battle 7: vs Sableye
Raid Boss Sableye ★★★★ Health Gauge: 100% Shields Up: 0 Status: None. Raid Challengers Slash, Sylveon: 300 HP Gary, Togetic: 400 HP King Ghidorah, Kangaskhan: 300 HP Missingno. Master, Pangoro: 400 HP SpinyShell, Kecleon: 300 HP (Protean: Normal) Emp, Shiinotic: 300 HP (@Life Orb) lilboocorsola, Carbink: 400 HP (@Aegis of Frost, +2 Defence) ChrisClark13, Absol: 300 HP The heroes arrive on the scene not too soon as the oversized gremlin begins to excavate the mud in search for gems that will never satisfy its great size, and on the sight of the arriving raiders it begins to positively salivate at the succulent and delicious Carbink in their ranks. You've successfully stopped it from causing trouble, but it looks like you have problems on hand, even as Kecleon seems much more eager to get stuck in. Dynamax Initiative: SpinyShell, Kecleon.

The Sableye, oblivious to the gathering raiders slowly coming through the fog, began to dig in the ground, no doubt hunting for jewels and minerals to satiate its ravenous hunger. However, once it noticed them, it hissed and took a battle ready stance, that is, until it spotted the Carbink following its trainer into the raid arena. Selene could see a hungry, primal gleam shine in the Sableye’s gemstone eyes, salvia dripping from its toothy maw. The giant began to approach them, crouching and crawling on all fours, consumed by hunger and instinct. However, the Darkness Pokemon’s hunt was interrupted by a pair of seeds tossed onto its body by the Shiinotic.
The purple goblin screeched with hate and anger as it clawed at its body, tearing ghastly holes in its flesh that shimmered black before healing. But for all its scratching, the Sableye’s attempts were to no avail, the seeds stuck attached to its flesh. They pulsed green, before sprouting thick green vines that wrapped around the Sableye’s body, eliciting another scream of rage from the Dynamaxed Pokemon. Sensing the battle had begun, the Absol closed its eyes and began to concentrate intensely as Prism started to glow with a magenta light at the same time. The Kecleon flexed her tiny claws as she sized up the Sableye in front of her, seeming more apt to battle than usual, her mind uncharacteristically focused and her temperament more aggressive. Selene, while lacking first-hand experience with raid battles, had lived in Galar for much of her early life, and even when she lived in Alola and had attempted to erase her past, still watched the gym challenge. She knew exactly what the glow and personality change surrounding Prism meant--the Kecleon could Dynamax. But Prism lacked any actual moves to hit the Sableye super effectively--or any powerful moves at all. Dynamaxing would be better spent on another Pokemon, such as the aforementioned Shiinotic. “Now’s not the time, unfortunately,” Selene said, “but we can fight in other ways. Now, Feint Attack!” Feint Attack (60 BP) Protean: Normal --> Dark

"Sableye, the Darkness Pokémon. A Dark and Ghost-type," said Willa's Pokédex. "Sableye feeds on gemstones, though will hunt down Carbink given the chance. Some believe that when its eyes glow, it will steal away the spirits of people."
"Goro..." Pangoro murmured, the Daunting Pokémon casting a concerned glance at the Carbink that was actually present. As far as typing was concerned, the Carbink of course had the advantage, but if the Sableye was hungry enough, what would truly win out. "Pan! Pangoro!" he declared, clearly hoping to protect the Carbink if it proved necessary. Willa nodded. "We'll take care of it if we need to," she assured her Pangoro. "But first, we need to make sure that that Sableye can't try any funny business. It already can't against you, of course," she added with the slightest of smirks. "But the others aren't as fortunate." "What does Mom mean by that?" Maribel whispered to Keith. "Well, sweetie, Pangoro is a Dark-type," Keith whispered back. "And it's a safe bet that that Sableye has Prankster." "Ohhh," nodded Maribel. "Yeah- Terri was telling me about Prankster, about how Want's non-attack moves can land before an opponent can act, but that Dark-types are immune to them." Keith nodded back. "You can't trick a trickster," he stated. Willa, meanwhile, was gesturing towards the supersized Sableye. "Use Taunt!" she commanded. "GORO!" thundered Pangoro, before attempting to catch Sableye's attention in a most infuriating manner. Annoying singsong voices, flipping it off, insinuations about the Sableye's mother- whatever it would take. OOC: Pangoro used Taunt (0 BP; immune to Prankster status moves due to Dark typing) |

Raid Boss Sableye ★★★★ Health Gauge: 88% Shields Up: 0 Status: Pumped Up (Crit +2), Taunted (2 Turns Remaining), Seeded. Raid Boss Attack Summary Attack 1: Snatch (0 BP) Sableye is waiting for the opponent to make their move! Sableye snatched Absol's Focus Energy! Attack 2: Max Darkness (130 BP) lilboocorsola, Carbink: 253 HP Attack 3: Dazzling Gleam (80 BP) Emp, Shiinotic: 201 HP [CRIT] King Ghidorah, Kangaskhan: 220 HP Slash, Sylveon: 210 HP [CRIT] Missingno. Master, Pangoro: 240 HP Raid Challengers Slash, Sylveon: 210 HP Gary, Togetic: 400 HP King Ghidorah, Kangaskhan: 220 HP (Att +1) Missingno. Master, Pangoro: 240 HP SpinyShell, Kecleon: 300 HP (Protean: Dark; -1 S. Def) Emp, Shiinotic: 251 HP (@Life Orb; -1 S. Def) lilboocorsola, Carbink: 253 HP (@Aegis of Frost, +2 Defence; -1 S. Def) ChrisClark13, Absol: 300 HP (-1 S. Def) Tantalising as things seem, the raid boss is indeed the first to act, but merely sits there and watches the raiders, grinning as it does in anticipation. Undeterred, our heroes lay into the gremlin and opt to either prepare for the battle ahead or to simply take initiative and start blasting at it. A Leech Seed implants itself on the Dynamaxed dark type, but it pays no heed to this, and its keen eyesight eventually finds what it was waiting for: the Absol attempting to focus itself for the fight ahead. Faster than a Ninjask's flight, the raid boss swoops in and promptly snatches the boost from the Disaster pokemon, feeling extremely pumped up even as the others land their assault and the Pangoro taunts it for the prankster that it is. Sableye looks down upon the fighting type, and laughs to itself, a booming mockery before lunging down upon the poor carbink and immediately gulping it down in a single bite! The gemstone pokemon's cries of alarm from within are them met with indignation as the Darkness pokemon impromptly digs its claws deep into itself, extracting the horrified jewel and slamming it into the ground in a frightful Max Darkness that stings despite the resistance. Eerily, its central ruby gemstone then takes the exact colour of the Carbink's gems before it erupts forth in a dazzling spray of light that washes over much of the raiders. Not prepared for this, two of the fairies find their natural resistance nullified as the fey move strikes them unawares critically, though the Shiinotic garners some energy back from the seed, while the two physical bruisers are luckier to be a little more wary, though Pangoro certainly feels the sting of the doubly effective move more than the Parent pokemon. In spite of this, it seems some residual light on the dark type's fur sparkles and resonates with the Power Spot... Dynamax Initiative: Missingno. Master, Pangoro.

Like a Noctowl that had sighted its prey, the Sableye snatched the stat boost the Absol had prepared so carefully, flexing its claws as it observed the raiders’ Pokemon with a more focused eye. Despite the barrage of attacks from its opponents and a jabbing taunt from the Pangoro, the Darkness Pokemon’s fighting spirit was not shaken. In fact, it began to laugh at the Fighting type, a horribly cruel giggle filled with malice that seemed to be a taunt in of itself.
The Sableye then lunged at the Carbink, its toothy maw wide open. With a horrifying sound, the gemstone monster slammed its jaws shut--swallowing the Jewel Pokemon whole. Prism’s scales turned completely white in fear as she cried out in horror and shock, echoing the sounds of several other trainers and Pokemon who were likewise disturbed by the sight. Selene looked away, her body tense and her fists balled in anger. Several tense moments passed before they heard a strange crying sound emanating from the Sableye--the Carbink was crying out. Seemingly angered by this, the jewel eater dug its shadowy claws deep into its belly, a disturbing sight that caused Prism to turn away in disgust, and tore out the Carbink before smashing it into the ground as a fountain of Dark energy erupted forth from the dry cracks in the dirt. Its central jewel then glowed pale blue, the same color as the Carbink’s gemstones--before unleashing a Dazzling Gleam at the two Fairy types, the Kangaskhan, and the Pangoro. The bright flash of light had made Selene uneasy, fearing what horrors the Sableye could unleash on Prism considering what it had done to the Carbink. As a Dark type, she’s currently in danger, Selene thought, but unlike most other Pokemon she’s not trapped in one typing. “It’s time for a type change, Prism. Ancient Power.” Hmm. I sense another Dazzling Gleam coming. Let's see if we can avoid that and maybe even remedy our Sp. Def drop. Ancient Power (60 BP) Protean: Dark --> Rock

AND THEN COMES A GIANT FIST
Sableye was ready for them. This it made abundantly clear right away as it reached down and swallowed the Carbink whole, eliciting several varied reactions. Willa clapped a hand over her mouth, eyes bulging in shock; Pangoro gave an enraged roar; Maribel gasped, fearful for the Rock/Fairy-type's life, while Keith held his daughter close to him to try and comfort her. But then, the Carbink was revealed to be OK, if somewhat harmed by the Max Darkness with which Sableye expelled the Jewel Pokémon from its body. And then came the Dazzling Gleam, the very move everyone knew Pangoro would have to be wary of. And sure enough, Pangoro took the hit, but was still standing. More than that, he was looking ready, raring to go.
And he wasn't the only one. Willa's attention was suddenly drawn to her right wrist, to the Dynamax Band she wore on it. Dynamax Energy was swirling around it, the Wishing Star reacting to the energy of the Power Spot. Pangoro turned back to his Trainer. "Pan, Pangoro goro! Paaaangoro!" he declared, punching his right fist into his left hand. Willa nodded. "If you believe this is the right time, then I trust you," she stated simply, before holding up the Ultra Ball to withdraw Pangoro. "As we always aspire to do," she began as the Dynamax Energy converged on the Ultra Ball, giving it the appearance of an engorged, holographic Premier Ball, "the time has come to attain greater heights," she continued, now holding the sizable sphere in both hands. "Now, Pangoro, like no one ever was, it's time to be the very best... and DYNAMAX!!!" she declared, hurling the ball into the air behind her. The ball stopped, high in the air, and in a flash of light, there was Pangoro, getting larger... and larger... and larger! Towering over his Trainer, a twig in his mouth the size of an oak tree, the Dynamaxed Pangoro glared at Sableye. "GOOOOROOOOOO!!!" he bellowed in a deep, thunderous voice. Willa smirked at the Sableye, knowing it may well have just met its match. "Max Knuckle right now!!!" she commanded Pangoro. OOC: Pangoro Dynamaxes and uses Max Knuckle (90 BP; base move is Brick Break (75 BP); user's Ability is Scrappy). Last edited by Missingno. Master; 11-09-2020 at 01:33 AM. Hmm... well- I had basically no idea that move existed before this.
Too late to make up for the lost potential damage, so let's just get to attacking! Play Rough (90 BP, 10% Chance to lower Attack, Increased Crit Chance from Super Luck)

Raid Boss Sableye ★★★★ Health Gauge: 74% Shields Up: 5 Status: Attack -1, Sp. Att +1, Pumped Up (Crit +2), Taunted (1 Turn Remaining), Seeded. Trainer Recovery Summary Emp, Shiinotic: Draining Kiss Emp, Shiinotic: 270 HP Raid Boss Attack Summary Attack 1: Lash Out (150 BP) [CRIT] lilboocorsola, Carbink: 0 HP Attack 2: Max Ooze (90 BP) Slash, Sylveon: 88 HP Attack 3: Snarl (55 BP) King Ghidorah, Kangaskhan: 129 HP Missingno. Master, Pangoro: 394 HP ChrisClark13, Absol: 187 HP [CRIT] SpinyShell, Kecleon: 150 HP [CRIT] Raid Challengers Slash, Sylveon: 88 HP Gary, Togetic: 400 HP King Ghidorah, Kangaskhan: 129 HP (Att +2, Sp. Def -1) lilboocorsola, Carbink: 0 HP (Must wait 1 Round to recover) ChrisClark13, Absol: 187 HP (S. Att -1, S. Def -1) With the Sableye seemingly hindered, the raiders very quickly go on the offensive and begin to assault it with their best moves. Kangaskhan continues to amplify her attack, Kecleon fails to boost its stats with Ancient Power, and the numerous fairy moves force the Sableye to erect shields in the face of the Corsola and Dynamaxed Pangoro, with Absol's Super Luck failing to land a critical strike but certainly acting in another way as the raid boss seems physically weakened. However, this attack drop gives the giant gremlin a fiendish smile, and with its lowered stat it promptly lashes out at the Carbink with incredible force, swinging its clawed hand straight down and driving the Jewel pokemon clean into the mud, striking with a devastating critical blow that outright knocks the healthy pokemon out through its resistance! Sableye then turns to the dastardly Sylveon and strikes them with a forceful Max Ooze, upping its special offensive prowess before giving a deafening snarl at the raiders, though to its chagrin it only seems to affect the physical fighters who place themselves in harm's way to defend their special attackers, and while the Scrappy pair seem relatively better off, Pangoro laughing at the feeble damage, Absol and Kecleon are left reeling by the critical shriek... Dynamax Initiative: Missingno. Master, Pangoro.

With a furious roar, the Dynamaxed Pangoro slammed its giant fist into the Sableye, smashing through a shield in the process. The gremlin screamed in pain and cowered, dragging its claws across its face, almost digging out the gemstones embedded in its visage. To add insult to injury, the Kangaskhan bruised its stubby legs with a Power-Up Punch, eliciting another screech of agony as the Darkness Pokemon spasmed and thrashed before abruptly settling into an eerie silence. That was, until the Absol came crashing in at the last second, glowing with pink Fairy energy. The overexcited wolf bounded around the legs of the jewel-eater, playfully scratching and biting them with excited yips, though the Sableye was clearly not enjoying the attention--howls of pain erupted from its jagged maw with every toothy nip. It seemed that the Absol’s frolicing had done more than deal physical damage, the Sableye’s shoulders slumped, its arms dangling in exhaustion. It seemed the Play Rough had worn down its offensive capabilities.
However, despite its weakness, the Sableye began to gradually smile, revealing its stalagmite-like white teeth until its jaw was stretched uncomfortably wide. It then lashed out at the Carbink, venting its frustrations at the stat drop on the poor rabbit as it raked its claws across the gemstone, driving it into the ground by the force of the critical blow. Not yet satisfied, the Sableye turned to the other fae thorn in its side, the Sylveon, and nearly drowned it in a particularly painful Max Ooze before uttering a horrifying screech at the rest of the raiders. The Pangoro and Kangaskan leaped in the way of the black shockwave, shielding the special attackers of the team from the Snarl, while the Absol and Prism were struck with a critical hit. The Kecleon, reeling from the blow, staggered backwards and nearly collapsed if it weren’t for Selene rushing in and catching her at the last second. “I think that’s enough trying to raise your stats. Let’s just stick with Feint Attack for now.” Oof. With weakened Special Attack I think I'll stop trying my luck with Ancient Power. Feint Attack (60 BP) Protean: Rock --> Dark

The Max Knuckle had not, as Willa had hoped, resulted in a power increase- as it turned out, by the time Pangoro had attacked, the Max Knuckle had struck the Sableye's shield. No amount of Taunting was gonna stop that from happening, after all. But that was OK with Willa- every little bit helped.
Sableye went on the offensive not long after, not that it had any choice with the Taunt in effect. Evidently the Absol's Play Rough had lowered its attack, but this only served to power up its first move of choice, the Lash Out knocking the Carbink right out. After that came a Max Ooze that slammed into a Sylveon, and then Pangoro took another widespread move; though this time it was Snarl. Not nearly as effective, and what was more, Willa didn't give a Patrat's ass about the Special Attack drop- Pangoro's area of expertise was physical moves, through and through. And yet, the shield still stood. Willa frowned, glanced around at her allies. A good chunk of them were decidedly special attackers... "Is Mom gonna wait for the others to break the shield?" Maribel asked Keith from where they were watching. "It's hard to say," murmured Keith. "I feel like she'd have Pangoro help take down the shield, actually- not a lot of her allies would actually want the Attack boost from what we've seen so far, and Max Moves do more damage to shields than most other kinds of moves." "Yeah... that makes sense," Maribel nodded. And Keith's line of thinking turned out to be correct, for Willa gestured forward. "Max Knuckle, once more!!!" she called to Pangoro. "Destroy that shield!" Pangoro gave a rumbling roar in response, preparing another Max Move. OOC: Pangoro used Max Knuckle (90 BP; base move is Brick Break (75 BP); user's Ability is Scrappy).
