I'm starting to wonder about that myself. I've received two ideas and they were both for art. Granted, the thread's only been around for a day, but still, I do wonder if we'll have enough ideas. Amusingly, I was worried about the opposite happening when I started this thread--a tiny group of volunteers and a surplus of ideas.

I get the feeling that more people are going to want art (because it's nicer to look at and easier to appreciate), whereas more people are going to be more comfortable with writing (I mean just look at me).

Vicious cycle, really.

I wouldn't use the term "vicious cycle" to describe what's going on, but I agree with Dave. Demand for artwork will probably be highest while supply's highest thing is going to be writing.

Something you could consider doing, to open to floor to all the people who volunteered to write, would be to let any writer volunteer to fulfill any bounty commission whatever you're calling these. ^^; The problem with this is, you might trigger the Bystander Effect where nobody volunteers to write someone's story because, what with all the writers we have on hand, they assume someone else is going to pick it. But this can be remedied pretty easily by randomly assigning at least one person to every story. So for example ...

Spoiler: show
Say there are ten writers (Hana, Kuno, Stlbk, Mozz, Loki, Morgoth, Muyo, ABL, Zora, and SantasLittleSpinda) and only three requests for stories (from bbb, Doppleganger, and YUKI.N). What you then do is ...
  1. You randomly assign writers to each of the three stories. These are the "guardian writers" and it's their job to make sure that no story is orphaned. So for example, say Mozz is randomly assigned to bbb's request, Muyo to Doppel's, and Hana to Yuki's. That's that part.
  2. But then you also say, "Hey! Anybody who really likes the sound of any of these requests can come on in and write something up." So say Concept is like, "Wow, I really like bbb's request." Then he can volunteer to do it too. This doesn't take Mozz off the hook (unless the two of them want to work something out), but it does at least mean that nobody who volunteered to write is left standing out in the cold.

Make sense?

You could implement the same system with the drawings but I get the feeling that that won't be necessary. There are going to be way too many requests for drawings and way too few drawers on hand. So as far as that goes, the best approach (honestly) is a healthy dash of honesty and selfishness: you let the artists have total freedom to pick and choose which drawing ideas they want to do, which ones they don't, and it's kinda "too bad " for those drawing ideas which didn't get picked.

I'll write/draw. Since I got my scanner working I'm eager to crack open the old sketchbook during break.

Since I've noticed a couple of recent submitters having multiple ideas for certain things, here's one I'll throw out: What do you guys think of the idea of upping the request limit to two for both categories? I imagine we have a decent shot at hitting enough requests to give everyone in the art category one picture, but it's writing I'm more concerned about. But it feels inconsistent to up the limit for one category without doing so for the other.

I do think Talon's idea is worth considering as well. :O

This sounds like a plan. Particularly as I hadn't read the post properly and didn't notice the one per category thing and was planning on sitting down and having a good old brainstorm for submission ideas tomorrow morning.

Volunteering for both Drawing and Writing!

But I can't draw humans. At all. Ever. Goddamit, Kin. You can try.

I'll give drawing a go. c: Though on the Pokemon front I can only really draw gijinkas (humanified versions of Pokemon, though i'm sure most already know) so animals aren't my thing. ^^;

For those curious: The current idea count stands at 8 for fanart and 9 for fanfics. I've decided to go ahead with increasing the request limit to two per category, so up to four per person. If the idea count doesn't get up to the number of volunteers for a category, I'll likely implement Talon's idea, throwing a few requests out to the volunteers without an "assigned" idea and letting them have their pick of the litter.

For anyone wondering what the right "length" is for a request, it can be as short as one sentence or a couple of paragraphs long. All I ask is that it should remain relatively simple. =3=

Thanks very much to everyone who has submitted ideas so far!

I was going to complain about being left out of Talon's list...

But then I took an arrow to the knee saw that Mozz and SantasLittleSpinda were labeled as writers.

Everybody knows Mozz is an artist and SantasLittleSpinda does nothing for free. It was obviously an example!

ATTN BOYS AND GIRLS

I'll be closing up idea submissions and assigning stuff tonight. If you have any last-minute submissions, you have till 6 PM EST to get 'em in. Remember that anybody on UPN, not just volunteers, can submit, and you can have up to two fanart requests and up to two fanfic requests. Got an idea that you'd love to see executed? Send it in and see what happens on Christmas day.

Submission period is over. Going to RNG who gets what and let everyone know via PM tonight. Thanks again, everyone, for your submissions--there's enough requests in both categories to give everyone their own assignment. A few lucky fellows may just receive two! :O

I'm still in the process of sending PMs; it's taking a good while. Now, if yours isn't sent after a couple more hours have passed... then I must have received an epic distraction. tungsten
