Oh, I just thought about it. Flying one is probably going to be mascot for Y, because look at the body shot of it, looks like a Y, no? The deer though doesn't really look like an X, but there's a prediction for ya. Also, I say they go back to a third version because obviously Pokemon Z.

Don't care much for the Grass and Fire starter (though my mind could be changed about the Fire one with evos), like the Frog guy.
Wow it actually is Gen VI go fucking figure. Also have we finally broke the 10-year-long Fire/Fighting streak? |

The grass starter is gonna evolve into some badass fucking armoured porcupine thing, just watch.
The frog can burn for all I care, even if it isn't very effective. |

A closer look shows that the deer legendary has X-shaped pupils. Nice, subtle touch there.

I like Chespin a little bit more now.
Spoiler: show It had better learn Rollout. I still don't understand why its body looks like it does. That is not a hedgehog.

There's also a certain famous hedgehog that isn't anatomically correct, and he seems to be doing just fine.

All right, got a theory on the mythology here, because I doubt that they're going to just stick with chromosones. All the legendary Pokemon that I'm aware of have some kind of mythology behind them.
Anyway, it's all centered around Yggdrasil, a great tree from Norse mythology. Right off the bat there, that's a European connection because the games look like they'll be based in Europe. Anyway, around this great tree live four stags, an eagle, and a wyvern. Now, I'm thinking that "X" represents the stags, and "Y" represents the eagle. However, it is a bit of a stretch calling it an eagle, not even entirely sure if it's a bird at all. Anyway, this opens up the possibility of there being a "Z" Pokemon, and there's your Dragon-typed legendary for this generation. Oh also, the plotline might be associated with Ragnorok, another Norse thing if this were true. Basically, Ragnarok is the end of the world and the birth of a new one, if I remember correctly. This could be what *insert evil team* has in store for the world. It's a bit crazy, but that's the fun when a new game comes out!

The frog is ugly. Sorry. The fire starter is the best looking, though I need to see their evos to make a final decision (I thought Oshawott was the dumbest of the three in Gen V, but Samurott was definitely the coolest looking).
I actually really like the deer. Don't care too much for Zolugia. EDIT: The Stadium-like battle animations are what really sold me. I can't wait.

The legendaries are dissapointing. Grass starter was too, I actually don't like it from sight. The frog is okay.......and the fire fox is amazing.
This looks cool anyways and I am sure I am going to love it.

Admittedly they probably were "encouraged" by Nintendo to put out a 3DS version, but damn it feels like this next gen is coming early.

Really early. And you guys all got over Rainbow pretty fast ;p
I wasn't that impressed, but I do like the move away from how Gen V did sprites. And a move away from Gen V in general, because it was terrible. We'll have to see if this makes me buy a 3DS. Fire Emblem is the only other game I'm really interested in that's out for it right now, and I'm not sure two games is enough to justify buying a new system. |

Glad you guys finally picked up on the fact that Chespin is a hedgehog, I was starting to worry. His Japanese name, Harimaron, is a portmanteau of "needle" (which is in their word for hedgehogs, or "needle-mice") and the French loan word for chestnut, marron (which Japan is aware of, if DOA is any indicator, owing to marrons glacés). Some of you have said the game takes place in France, so this sort of a nod works well, using a French word which many Japanese recognize. As for us dumb Yanks, Aussies, and Brits, we get Chespin, from "chestnut" and "pin".
While I'm enthusiastic for a hedgehog, these starters illustrate the bankruptcy of ideas for creature design over at GameFreak. Animals being done again, that's inevitable. But we already had a hedgehog-like starter in Cyndaquil. And ffs, cute though a fennel fox may be, we already have a fire fox in Ninetales. What are you guys doing to poor Ninetales!? Trying to kick her out to the curb, make her feel like she's no longer wanted? The designs don't feel very Pokémon-like either. Chespin's safe, I guess, but the other two, especially the fox, look like DeviantArt fakemon. Link to trailer? On phone.

Gen V has ended up a year shorter than Gen IV, but I'm pretty sure I heard Gen I and Gen II were both only 3 years long. The only Gens that have taken 4 years are Gen III and Gen IV.

Seems like Fennekin is ripping on that aspect of them, too, if that really is a Psychic attack it's using in the trailer there.
