Beginner Trainer Battle: Treepandaone vs. Missingno. Master
The dust swirled along the arid ground as the winds picked up. This was all there was for mile around but in the distance there was a solid piece of rock that jutted out reaching for the bright sun that today was struggling to push through the thick grey clouds that blanketed the skies. It was this mesa that had been chosen for a trainer battle today, the decision left to the discretion of the referee. She knew the two trainers had chosen two bug types to battle with and the arena just popped into her head. Two intrepid trainers were making their way across the desert fighting against the heat as the approached the arena. The referee stood ready as ever decked out in black skinny jeans, hiking boots, thin white t-shirt and a thick cream jacket. Two of her own bugs hovered by her side, a Ninjask and a Shedinja. She waved over the pair as they approached wearing similarly protective clothing.
"Welcome welcome you two, I hope this arena is to your liking. It can be quite dangerous especially for such small Pokemon to battle on but I'm sure if you follow the rules, no accidents will happen. Right then, lets get ready to battle!" Treepandaone vs. Missingno. MasterShe allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned Treepandaone to Heads and Missingno. Master to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Heads". Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play: – I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round (I am happy with up to 3 being used per round)“'Cause baby, there ain't no mountain high enough Ain't no valley low enough, ain't no river wide enough To keep me from getting to you, baby” |

Round 1

Quote:
Pontos begins to spin around and around boosting up his attack whilst Scorpius gives him a vicious Leer. Unfortunately Pontos cannot see the move as he is dancing away in concentration. Scorupis huffs in annoyance as Pontos finishes his dance looking tought and buff. Both scuttle towards the other and exchange blows, a Knock Off to Scorpius and a Rock Smash to Pontos. Scopius holds no item but with his boosted attack power the normally weak attack deals a little more pain. Pontos winces against the fighting move and was lucky his defences weren't broken. Both stare each other down before attacking again. Pontos summons rock energy in the form of a large orb before his body. Scorpius dives to the side to deliver a Night Slash but Pontos maintains his focus against the pain and sends the super-effective Ancient Power right at the Skorupi sending his flying back landing with a crash looking worse for wear. Pontos feels the healing effects of his Leftovers come into play as the round ends. Health: 92% Energy: 84% Status: Atk ++ Health: 76% Energy: 89% Status: Treepandaone to post followed by Missingno. Tension hung in the air around the plinth of rock as the battle begun; the exchanging of pleasantries was over and now the two trainers turned their attentions to the Pokémon in front of them. Matthew gleamed as his Pokémon had the courage to step into the arena, the Anorith being a part of a new batch of Pokémon Matthew had raised since he unearthed and resurrected the bug-type as the picturesque scene played out before him.
Grabbing his Pokédex from his inside jacket pocket Matthew scanned the creature opposing Anorith, the Skorupi a battle-ready bug which looked a loyal and umbraic follower to its master, one Matthew had met around the park and bar a few times, but no more than that. He smiled as the opportunity presented itself, the beauty of Pokémon in the strength of friendship one shares through battle; both with Pokémon and opponents, bringing people closer by the sheer nature of it; rivals and acquaintances alike putting their differences aside to join in the ancient art of sport with the outcome usually resulting in respect and admiration. Continuing to look through the statistics of his opponent, he noticed the trophy it had collected prior to the battle, the Skorupi having an advantage of experience compared to the Anorith who had not, its first battle coinciding with the bravery it showed to Matthew during Halloween, stepping up to the plate and looking into the mirror, a fate which could have ended disastrously. Matthew also noticed the Skorupi's ability; Sniper. Looking down, Matthew smiled as he saw his Pokémon negated it, the Anorith's Battle Armour proving to be a tough shell to crack, critical hits not a factor for him. Looking up from his golden electronic device, Matthew jumped a little with surprise, the battle nearing its end as Anorith finished with an Ancient Power; his time had been distracted by other things. Realising it was his turn, Matthew called out to Anorith. “Start off the round with an Iron Defense. Then use an Earth Power to force him off balance. Finish off the round with a Rock Blast.” |

"Damn it," Keith muttered as he checked out their ancient adversary on his Pokedex. "Battle Armor- so much for Scorpius's Sniper.
"Weeedle," Hermione whined quietly as the AncientPower slammed into her beloved. Keith, meanwhile, he could not help but notice as the Anorith started munching on a set of Leftovers. "Well," Keith stated as he adjusted his hat. "We'll see about that, won't we? Scorpius, use your own Knock Off! Get rid of those Leftovers! Then hit it with your Rock Smash, and follow up with Sludge Bomb!" |

Round 2
Pontos feels confident with how the first round went and is quick to follow your orders hunkering down and using his Iron Defence to gain another boost, his body shining like it was covered in steel. Scorpius gets back to his feet shaking off the pain from the Ancient Power and scuttles back towards his opposition waiting for him to uncurl. As Pontos finishes his defencive move the Skorupi strikes using his own Knock Off to catch the Leftover and send them flying across the mesa ... that will make things a little more even!
Pontos glares at the Skorupi for robbing him of his held item and begins to pump ground energy into the rock beneath him. It quakes a little and cracks form as the Earth Power erupts under Scorpius sending him flying through the air landing with a thud further down the mesa. He grunts as he has to get back to his feet again feeling the pain of the powerful attack. He begins to close the distance again but Pontos is on the attack again shooting out various rock projectiles with his Rock Blast Scorpius grunts as 2 projectiles hit him before he can dodge causing super effective damage but he manages to avoid the rest and hits Pontos again with a Rock Smash but his increased defences protect him from much damage. Scorpius backs up a little, miffed at his lack of luck and bears down for his last attack. He shoots out a barrage of Sludge Bomb that batters Pontos ... its a pity he's resistant to poison attacks as that would have been a great move. Keith frowned as the round unfolded- aside from the Anorith losing its Leftovers, things were not going their way. The Weedle on Keith's shoulder, however, was quivering with worry as Scorpius took hit after hit. "It's OK, Hermione," Keith quietly reassured the Weedle. "We can still turn things around." He then sighed. He had hoped they wouldn't have to pull out their secret weapon so soon, but at the rate this battle was going, it was looking inevitable.
"Scorpius, use Flamethrower!" Keith commanded. "Follow it up with Leer, and go for another Sludge Bomb!" |

Matthew watched as Anorith continued to get into the battle, his courageous first round allowing the bug to get improve its defense, its silvery iron flash reflecting the orange sun to create pretty visions in the sky. But this was no time to admire the view, and Matthew cursed under his breath as Anorith's leftovers were sent flying across the mesa. Mentally reminding himself to pick them up after the battle, Matthew continued to press on with the plan, watching as Anorith and Skourpi traded blows before the dust settled and the round ended.
Turning to his battle partner, Matthew called out another set of orders, giving his Pokémon his traditional thumbs up for luck; “Go for another Earth Power to counter the Flamethrower then Swords Dance to spin and ignore the Leer. Finish by taking the sludge bomb and hitting back with a Ancient Power.” |

Round 3
Keith and Hermione were both concerned at how one sided the battle seemed so far but Scorpius had a trick up his sleeves, one that would hopefully turn the battle around for him. Matthew was already so proud of how well Pontos was faring in his first ever trainer battle and knew that if they kept it up they would have this battle in the bag, but first they had to stop that ace of Keith's.
Scorpius breathes in deep feeling his throat burn as he does so and he breathes out a red hot Flamethrower. Pontos hardly has time to recover from his Sludge Bomb assault and he screams at the flames licking his body. He grits his eyes against the pain and uses his Earth Power again to knock Scorpius off his feet disrupting the attack. Scorpius grunts against the pain and gives Pontos a vicious Leer before the Anorith can use his Swords Dance making his shiver in fear. Scorpius allows himself a little grin and launches another Sludge Bomb into the air the projectiles raining down upon Pontos snapping him out of his stupor. He has a sick look on his face however, it looks like he's been poisoned from the attack! Despite how ill he's feeling Pontos concentrates enough to use his last attack for this round. He launches an Ancient Power at Scorpius making him cry out in pain. Even with his ace it looks like the battle could be over for Scorpius. Matthew winced as he saw his Pokémon engulfed in flames as he felt the heat from the flamethrower from where he was standing, the force of the powerful attack staggering him backwards as he thought only of the Pokémon inside the stream of red hot flames. Restraining himself from running onto the battlefield and removing the small Pokémon from harms way Matthew gritted his teeth, only to release a sigh of relief as the Anorith managed to restrain the flames with an Earth Power attack; the trainer pleased to see what little respite the Anorith was getting.
It wasn't too long before the battle had re-started, the fierce shots between the two Pokémon was far from over as they continued their individual onslaught; trading blows with ferocious intent, the sludge bomb and ancient power passing over each of the Pokémon as the round ended. Seeing his Pokémon poisoned Matthew forced himself not to throw in the towel, all of Anorith's hard work would've been for nothing and though he had not spent much time with his little fossil, he knew in its heart it would want to continue the battle until the very end. “Great job Anorith. Move in close for a Cut attack then continue your onslaught with a Rock Blast. Finish strong with a final Cut.” |

"Weedle! Weedle Weedle Weeeeedle!" exclaimed Hermione as Scorpius was not only slammed by a powerful Earth Power, but also by a super effective AncientPower. She was intensely worried for him; indeed, the Skorupi was badly battered, but he now had that fire in his eyes Keith knew all too well. A casual bystander would think that Scorpius was backed into a corner and would be forced to surrender. But Scorpius never surrenders, and Keith knew it. Even if he didn't necessarily win every battle, he would be damned if he was going to give up until he was physically incapable of continuing! The two exchanged a brief yet meaningful glance, and Keith turned his cowboy hat backwards, which he tended to do whenever the battle he was in was getting particularly intense. Scorpius might have sustained some heavy injuries, but his spirit burned brighter than ever, and he still had energy to spare, even after that particularly draining Flamethrower. Plus, the Anorith had been poisoned, and that alone was a point in their favor.
"Let's do this!" Keith shouted. "Scorpius, Agility! Make sure that Anorith can't close the gap, and for Arceus's sake, evade that Rock Blast! After that, if, and only if, you can get off a clear shot, fire off a Sludge Bomb!" "Weeeedle!" Hermione called out, cheering her beloved on, in spite of her worries about his current state. |

Round 4
As what could be the final round commenced Matthew and Pontos felt victory within their grasp whilst Keith and Hermione stared with worry at Scorpius. His eyes blazed with a bright fire, he would not give up no matter how desperate the situation appeared! Pontos starts to close the gap on Scopius ready to Cut him and deal a final blow when the Skorupi darts off narrowly avoiding the sharp claw. Pontos looks around in confusion to see Scorpius off in the distance behind him having used his Agility to dodge the attack. Pontos blinks and almost shrugs, oh well his next attack would finish the tricky little bug. He fires off a barrage of Rock Blast that Scorpius endeavours to dodge and with his increased speed manages to avoid most but one shot that sends him stumbling.
Pontos grins at his success and begins to close the gap again to attack only for Scorpius to get back to his feet and fire off a Sludge Bomb at the Anorith who grunts in pain at the barrage. Scorpius breathes a sigh of relief but his eyes go wide as he spots Pontos still heading towards him, his claws glowing white. This was it, he takes the final Cut and collapses from the pain. "Scorpius is unable to battle, Pontos is the winner!" Health: 41% Energy: 34% Status: Atk ++ Def + Poisoned Health: 00% Energy: 33% Status: KO'd from his injuries Congratulations to Treepandaone and Pontos and on his first victory. You had the advantage of Pontos' rock typing being resistant to Scorpius' attacks and effective against his bug type. You used the advantage well to earn a sqift victory, lets see how you do in your next battle ;p For his victory Pontos receives this . He also receives two levels. Commiserations to Missingno. Master and Scorpius, you were lucky and unfortunate with a bad match up as I've stated above. If your attacks aren't effective and you're weak against your opponents attacks you're facing a huge disadvantage and this time you couldn't over come that. Keep trying though, Scorpius will get his victory soon I'm sure. Scorpius receives 1 XP for participating in the battle. |

"Don't feel bad, Scorpius," Keith said as he approached his Pokemon. "You were great out there. We'll win the next one for sure." "Skor..." replied Scorpius, grinning wider, in spite of his injuries. With that, Keith withdrew his Pokemon to their Poke Balls, then went to shake Matthew's hand. "Good battle," he said. "Just be warned, though, next time you might not be so lucky," he added with a grin. *Scorpius recieves 1 XP!* Thanks for reffing, Arc! |

Matthew bit his bottom lip as the round started; hearing his opponent's counter-orders made him very nervous as he saw a hole in his strategy, one his opponent intended to take advantage from by staying away from the close quarter action. Matthew's heart beat with excitement and nerves; his mind constantly worrying about the poison the Anorith had to sustain while it fought, his opponent's poison specialisation working very well indeed.
Adrenaline pumped through his body as he excitedly watched every twist and turn that battle had to offer, the true art and enjoyment of a Pokémon battle was taking place and he shared the moment with his compares and respected opponent. As Anorith battled on with great courage against the poisoned adversiry it faced, Matthew found himself once again welling up with pride as it attempted to close the distance with no avail, its ability to shrug off the negative effects of such a failing and continue pressing onwards made the hair on Matthew's neck stand up. The agile defence, however, was no match for the blast of rocks; the strafing unpredictability of the rock type was too much as Skorupi got knocked off balance by one, allowing Anorith to finially close the distance and finish with the final cut. Seeing his Pokémon fell the other Matthew smiled as he lowered his head, forcing back a tear as he swung his backpack round to his front, pulling out a small box from the bottom of the bag. With the heat of battle now over, Matthew could appreciate the heat of the mecca once more, breathing in a deep breath of fresh air as he refilled his lungs from what seemed an eternity of not breathing in anticipation. Seeing his opponent caress his Pokémon Matthew approached with a smile, firmly shaking the outstretched hand “Good battle today friend. Next time shall be just as good as this one I'm sure” he said. Turning to the referee Matthew thanked her once again, collecting his trophy before turning to the bug Pokémon clamped to the ground. “And you, Anorith, well done out there” he said as he began to open the box, revealing a Blue Cyberball inside. “You've earned this” Taking the old Pokéball from his belt, Matthew snapped it in his hands before discarding the broken plastic remains. Tapping the Anorith on the head with the Cyberball, Matthew transferred Anorith to its new home. With the transfer complete, Matthew clipped the Anorith onto his belt. With a flash of light, Matthew reached down and grabbed another, calling out his Doduo as he hopped on before turning to the referee. “See you on the next one, I just need to get Anorith to a Pokémon Centre. With Doduo's speed I surely won't be late” he said as the Doduo sped off into the distance. OoC: Collecting a beginner trophy, raising Anorith from level 11 to 13 and putting him in a Blue Cyberball. Thanks |
