So I was talking to BPK and broached the topic of Haruhi. It's well known by this point about the career trajectories of the Haruhi alumni:
-Sugita and Ono became big stars, with Ono shining a bit brighter -Aya torpedoed her voice acting career but still stuck to music -Gotou struggled post-Haruhi due to illness -Chihara had strong voice acting and musical career Not much has changed on the Sugita/Ono front, both are still huge, with Sugita being more prolific and Ono taking the bigger roles. Watching Haruhi today and just how big these fellas got it's kind of weird seeing these two men basically co-starring. Their modern gravity is immense they can't share the spotlight anymore. But the real interest is Aya. Aya's music career kind of stalled after 2014, at least her last album was the same year as Weird Al's last (and final). Yet, she's still had quite a bif of anime, video game, and even theatre roles. Being a red hot female pop star is a short-lived gig - even Rika Matsumoto couldn't hold onto it forever - but Aya's doing surprisingly well for herself, despite someone who supposedly torpedo'd her career early on. Yuko Gotou has famously done the best of the three women, getting consistent roles for her both her chidlish and sultry voices. Despite taking on the more sordid roles, she has the cleanest personal record of the trio. Then there's Chihara. She quickly distinguished herself among her fellow alumn with a strong singing and voice acting career, but it suddenly came crashing to a half behind the scenes circa 2015. She still had some recurring roles but the difference in quantity is stark, especially for someone with no outward controversy. Then news broke in 2020 of her multiyear affair with a married man that explains her soft blacklist from voice acting. She was more or less forced into retirement for music after this, and took up a new chapter as a YouTuber! Befitting a show staring a goddess, the Haruhi anime produced the second most number of stars after the Big Bang. Only the super minor characters like Tsuruyua or Kyon's Sister escaped becoming superstars, everyone major became pretty dang big. But yeesh, keep the skirts/pants on, please!
