I don't remember Pot of Greed getting so much screen time in the anime. O-o I guess it's just because story-wise a "Draw 2 cards" card doesn't stand out very much.

It got more screentime in GX, but I think it got phased out afterwards. I think 5Ds used Speed Spell - Angel Baton over it, ZeXal used Xyz Treasure, and Arc-V...i don't think has used anything.

You say that, but over 90% of those samples came from the original series, not from GX, which just goes to show that even the original series had a large number of Pot of Greed uses.

They're actually all from the original series if I'm correct.

But yeah everyone used it. :p

The artwork looked different whenever the pink-haired guys showed up. (Both the one with the shorter hair and the one with the longer hair.) Was not sure whether it was the made-for-TV arc with the Orichalcos Australians or whether it was from GX. Assumed the latter once the longer-haired guy showed up since he definitely felt like a fish out of Original Series water.

It must be said that Pot of Greed has a memetic status among the Abridged community. Also the "And you know what that means" at the very end is well-played.

The video's also funny to me, but for a totally different reason: From a duel writing perspective, Pot of Greed is such a terrible, terrible card because it's literally a giant banner stating "Whoops, we accidentally let this character's hand get too small for them to do anything". What does it say when your card effects are so unvaried and uncreative that you need a card which literally does nothing but turn itself into 2 cards to make the duel continue?

5Ds's Angel Baton is much better designed because from a writing perspective its best use is actually to put things in the Graveyard (it only resolves to be a +0 otherwise), and even then the Speed Counter cost doesn't make it free.

Xyz Treasure was basically 100% Pot of Green in the ZeXal universe, not going to lie, although it was at least tied to the gamestate so it wasn't quite as boring. And then Kaito had like three cards that worked out to be Pot of Greeds and like a million which draw as part of the effect, but in the defence of the writers of his duels, his ace monsters were terribly designed from an economy perspective (Galaxy-Eyes is a -2 to summon from hand and it's effect is pretty much useless against anything other than Xyz, and it's evolved form is... Also a -2, but at least it's from the Extra Deck).

ARC-V has been on-point on that regard, but that's because they were smart enough to replace super-specific-cards-you'd-never-run with Action Cards. Speaking of, hoping for a return to Miami-style Action Duels, since they actually had to physically go for the Action Cards and we saw lots of cool tactics on that end, which was completely undone by [redacted].

Now, what I want to see is a compilation of all the times Monster Reborn was used in ZeXal~

Kin with random, albeit insanely interesting, YGO insight!

...

Is Arc-V supposed to be the most romantic YGO ever? I saw a .webm earlier of Yuuya x Yuzu doing that husband-wife holding thing.

Action Cards? Please tell me they didn't introduce ANOTHER card type. Synchro, Xzy, Pendulum...there's to much convoluted shit.

Can we please just go back to the days of Fusion and Ritual being the only fancy stuff, it was so much simpler ;–;

GX was the most blatant version of the "Oops, the protagonist doesn't have enough cards" issue, particularly as most of the main characters victory conditions revolved around fusing. As a result the Mirage of Nightmare/Emergency Provisions combo to restock the hand to four cards and gain 1000 LP seemed to become more and more omnipresent as the series went on.

I think the laziest writing in the original series is how they constantly used Card of Sanctity that allowed them to draw until they had 6 cards. There were definitely duels where both players used it too.

So I recently downloaded Duel Generation (the online app which is basically Duelist Network), and it is good fun. Until I realised that all the best cards (and I mean any card worth a competitive grain of salt) are In-App Purchase only and if you're unwilling to pay you're basically shut out of any decent or interesting Archetype.

Good. Though I didn't really care for Kozmos anyway.

Still hoping DN gets that remote server thing going to restore the images. I'd like to play again, really...

What's the issue with the lack of images? It's not as if you can't play the game without them. Is this just a personal preference thing?

No, you literally can't play the game without them, because the cards are too small to read the text. It's too much mental legwork for me and slows down the game pace.

It's to the point for me where I have the cards memorized and can trigger that information based on recall by seeing the image. If there's no image, I'm going to forget what cards are on the field pretty quickly.

Oh I guess that's a fair point. There still is always DevPro though if you really want to duel.

Buster Blader is a complete travesty of a deck but fun when you pull it off. Why does none of the support work with anything except the original Buster Blader? Like, I get the intention behind it, but the new BB wasn't exactly going to usurp the original (the original has the bonus of being searchable via previous support and can be special summoned from the hand). It just makes the deck not work at all.

Dark Sanctuary
Field Spell Card
(1) If you bring out a “Spirit Message” due to the effect of “Destiny Board”, you can Special Summon that card as a Normal Monster (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0). The card Special Summoned by this effect is unaffected by the effects of cards other than “Desiny Board”, and it cannot targeted for an attack. (If you only have monsters who have this card’s effect applied to them, and no other monsters, your opponent can attack you directly.)
(2) When your opponent’s monster declares an attack: You flip 1 card; if it’s Heads, negate that attack, and you inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monster’s ATK.
I...this is actually pretty cool Konami. Now where is the MST protection.

They're priting Divine Serpent Geh!

...for those of you who don't remember the end of the Orichalcos arc:

Quote:
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned, except with "Orichalcos Shunoros". When this card is Summoned, your Life Points become 0. This card gains ∞ ATK. This card cannot declare an attack unless you send the top 10 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard. While you control this card, you cannot lose the Duel.
I don't have a fucking clue what they are going to do to it.

It'll probably be a gimmick, and probably suck!

All I read there was "Your opponent plays literally any removal spell/trap, you lose the duel".

See I was going to reply all like "well if it is that easy then why did it take Yami like 2 or so episodes to defeat it?" And then I actually went back and read the synopsis and like He used literally no removal on it. And I was going to be all exasperated here but then I realised it's the anime and it would be much cooler to see Yami pull off some infinite attack loop than it would be to see him just use Sakuretsu Armor or Magic Cylinder
It would have been funnier though. "This monster does infinite damage!" "Yeah and it dies to Doom Blade Mirror Force."
