Jellicent Typhon's Depths Raid Battle 8: VS Drampa

Dynamax Boss Drampa
★★★★
Health Gauge: 100%
Shields Up: 0
Status: [Atk -1]

Raid Challengers:
  • CrazyCreeperKid (Cutiefly): 300 HP
  • Lil’Twick (Mimikyu): 400 HP [Disguise]
  • Median Dia (Ninetales-A): 300 HP
  • Meetan (Snubbull): 500 HP
  • Missingno. Master (Mimikyu): 300 HP [Disguise]
  • Sneaze (Cinccino): 300 HP
  • SpinyShell (Sandshrew-A): 300 HP
  • Zelphon (Dreepy): 400 HP

The elderly dragon rose out of the sea and gazed down at the group of trainers before letting out a slow, drawn out yawn before it prepared itself for combat. Dynamax energy poured into the Dynamax Band of the Alolan Ninetales and its trainer.

Dynamax Initiative: Median Dia, Ninetales-A
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • If a trainer’s Pokemon is rendered unconscious, they may choose to cheer on their allies; opting to either remove one shield from the raid boss or healing one ally’s Pokemon by 50% of their max health.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Monday, September 7th to place your order.

Hailstone looked up at the elderly dragon, who gazed down at him and the little group with vacant dull-pink eyes, studying the kaiju as it let out a long, slow yawn, a more peaceful sound compared to the terrifyingly furious roar it had uttered as it walked to shore. The dragon flapped its fluffy wings and arched its neck, readying itself for the battle that was soon to start by the looks of it.

Hailstone turned his head slightly as his trainer ran up to him, who was panting and trying to catch her breath, sputtering as she attempted to chide the Pokémon for running off towards the giant sea serpent without at least giving her a squeak to let her know his intentions. Unable to get her breathing back to regular Silver, or Sil for short, decided to glare down at the Sandshrew instead to let him know that she didn’t appreciate his brazen stunt.

But no matter how upset she was, nor how desperately she wished the two of them could just walk away from this giant monster-dragon, Sil knew that it would be cruel and selfish to abandon the small group of trainers when it looked like they needed all the help they could get. At least Hailstone’s dual Ice/Steel typing netted him some defensive advantage over both of the kaiju’s STAB attacks. Hopefully his tough steel shell combined with his resistances would prevent him from getting squashed by the serpent’s attacks, Sil thought. She looked worriedly at the Sandshrew, before glancing back up towards the Drampa, feeling pinned beneath the dragon’s blank stare despite the empty look in its eyes. There was just something about the Drampa gazing down at her that made her freeze in her tracks. Perhaps because its massive size conveyed a sense of power that reminded her of the two sacred dragons spoken of in her home region Sinnoh, the gods of time and space.

Her thoughts were interrupted as another trainer, a pink-haired man that looked to be in his early twenties, made the first move, commanding a small undead dragon--a Dreepy according to her Pokédex--to infect the giant lizard with an Infestation. Zipping around, the ghost unleashed a blast of Bug type energy that swarmed the dragon, infesting it.

The battle was on.

“Hailstone, could you please use Ice Ball?” she said to the Sandshrew, attempting to hide the nerves in her voice with a cough. She figured they would be using a lot of Ice type attacks, might as well use one that grows more powerful after every hit that lands. Hailstone nodded in affirmative, before curling himself tightly into an icy ball and launching himself at the Drampa.

Surely he couldn’t miss a target that huge.

Terri was far from the only Trainer to come and take on the Drampa. Not only that, but Nuzzle was able to see that she wasn't the only Fairy-type present. There was a Cutiefly, a Snubbull, even another Mimikyu. That last one in particular seemed to catch Nuzzle's attention. She couldn't recall ever having met this one before, and yet something about him seemed to draw her attention, as though there was some degree of familiarity between them. She... had left a few Eggs in the capable hands of the Hatchery staff when she left with Crabbe... could that possibly be their son?

But there was no time to dwell on it- the battle had begun! Attacks began flying Drampa's way, and the other Mimikyu went in for a powerful Play Rough. "That seems like a good idea to me," Terri remarked, having watched the Fairy-type move connect. "Alright, Nuzzle, we'll use Play Rough as well!" she ordered.

"Kyuuuuuuu!" exclaimed Nuzzle, dashing forward, intent on pummeling the Normal/Dragon-type with all her might. Terri kept an eye on the Drampa all the while- powerful though these moves were, they wouldn't take it out all at once, and it was absolutely going to fight back. Nuzzle was pretty well-equipped for some of Drampa's strongest options, but whether that alone would be enough remained to be seen... She also made a mental note to ask Nuzzle about that other Mimikyu- her preoccupation with her fellow Ghost/Fairy-type had not gone unnoticed by her Trainer by any means.

OOC: Nuzzle used Play Rough (90 BP).

So, ye know how this thing's STAB Max Moves lower stats? Yeah, I don't like that idea, especially with all of these Physical Attackers around. Let's effectively give everybody Clear Body with Mist (0 BP)!

Dynamax Boss Drampa
★★★★
Health Gauge: 83%
Shields Up: 0
Status: [Atk -1, Sp.Atk +1, Sp.Def +1, Infestation]
Trainer Status: [Mist (4 Turns Left)

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Calm Mind (0 BP)

Attack 2: Heat Wave (95 BP)
Zelphon, Dreepy: 321 HP
MM, Mimikyu: 300 HP [Disguise Busted]
Sneaze, Cinccino: 195 HP
Meetan, Snubbull: 395 HP [Burn]
Attack 3: Hurricane (110 BP)
MM, Mimikyu: 118 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • CrazyCreeperKid (Cutiefly): 300 HP
  • Lil’Twick (Mimikyu): 400 HP [Disguise]
  • Median Dia (Ninetales-A): 300 HP
  • Meetan (Snubbull): 363 HP [Burned]
  • Missingno. Master (Mimikyu): 179 HP
  • Sneaze (Cinccino): 195 HP
  • SpinyShell (Sandshrew-A): 300 HP [Ice Ball(1)]
  • Zelphon (Dreepy): 321 HP

As the raid battle began, the trainers’ Pokemon initiated combat by whacking away at the Drampa’s hide through a series of rough plays and icy strikes. A protective Mist shrouded the trainers’ side of the battlefield which caused Drampa to calmly contemplate its next course of action; turning up the heat. While Dreepy resisted the hit and one of the Mimikyus blocked it with its disguise, Snubbull began to feel a bit sunburned by the Heat Wave. Drampa then blew forth a powerful gust of hurricane speed winds at the Mimikyu who thought that it could escape the round without taking any damage. However, dynamax energy passed into the armband of that Mimikyu’s trainer as the round came to a close.

Dynamax Initiative: Missingno. Master, Mimikyu

Sil and Hailstone watched as the first round of the battle went by rather quickly. The assembled team pelted the Drampa with primarily Fairy and Ice type attacks, the supereffective attacks glittering pink and sparkling blue as they sailed to strike their target, causing the Drampa to growl in discomfort, shaking off the blows and picking at the insects that infested its fluffy wings and tail.

As the first round came to a close, a protective white Mist settled over the area, summoned by an icy Ninetails whose frosty blue pelt glittered in the dim light emitted by the Dynamaxed Drampa. Hailstone stared at it; its appearance familiar to him, reminding him of his faint childhood memories, before he was taken to Sinnoh…

While Hailstone was lost in thought, Sil was more focused on the battle at hand, nervously watching as the Placid Pokémon closed its eyes and Calmly reflected its Mind on the situation at hand, before flashing them open with a dangerous glint. Opening its wings wide, the Drampa fanned them at a rapid beat, causing a Wave of Heat to wash over the group, the gust of hot wind searing the Dreepy, one Mimikyu’s disguise, the Cinncino, and the Snubbull, who was scorched especially badly. Sil winced at the sudden burst of heat, shielding her face from the blistering breeze as Hailstone squeaked in surprise, jolted from his thoughts by the discomforting blaze. The dragon showed no mercy as it followed up with a Hurricane, flapping its wings forcefully as it whipped up the powerful winds, aiming for the Mimikyu who it had just attempted to singe, taking advantage of its broken disguise. Despite not being the target, Sil and Hailstone were nearly blown off their feet, too busy trying to hunker down to appreciate the cooling winds.

As the powerful gust died down, the Drampa slowly folded its wings against its body as it panted heavily. The strain of Dynamax combined with the powerful attacks it had just unleashed must have taken their toll.

“The Drampa looks like it’s going to take a moment to regather its strength. I think we have some time to counterattack,” Sil said to Hailstone, who nodded determinedly. As if on cue, the Dreepy darted forward, violently swinging its tail at the Drampa, lowering its Attack with a powerful Breaking Swipe. Hailstone followed the small dragon’s lead, curling up into an Icy Ball before charging towards the towering serpent, aiming for the center of the Drampa’s chest to land his boosted Ice Ball.

Sil watched the Sandshrew charge off, biting her lip nervously as she worried for him. Had the Heat Wave struck Hailstone, it would have been disastrous. She could only hope that he would be spared from another fiery windblast next turn.

Well, it definitely looks like we got lucky with the whole "Heat Wave hitting the non-Ices" thing, huh? Let's punish'em for that mistake with Triple Axel (20/40/60 BP)!

Terri did not react much, merely giving a small, mysterious smile as the Dynamax Energy flooded into her Dynamax Band. It might not be their Z-Move, but it would at least give Nuzzle a definite edge. And yet... not just yet. Before Drampa could attack again, for sure, but not until everyone else had attacked. Drampa was on the verge, Terri could tell it was looking to put up a shield soon. She needed to wait, wait until they could ensure the maximum damage possible.

At last, as the Cutiefly let loose a Fairy Wind, Terri's smile widened. "Let's do this, Nuzzle!" she called, holding out the Poké Ball and withdrawing the Mimikyu. Holding the ball out at arm's length, she felt the Dynamax Energy flooding out of the Dynamax Band and into the Poké Ball. "This energy we find," she murmured as the Poké Ball started to swell up. "It joins with our own... Helps us... Increases our power and our size!" With that, she wheeled around, holding the Electrode-sized sphere with both hands. "Now, Nuzzle, direct that power to quicken our victory... and DYNAMAX!!!" With this last word, Terri heaved the ball into the air.

What happened next was an amazing sight to behold. Terri's Mimikyu emerged once more, powerful energy swirling all around her, causing her to grow... and grow... and GROW! And even with the Pikachu head of her disguise still tilting pathetically off to one side, Nuzzle still towered over everyone else. "KYUU!!!" she bellowed, glaring unnervingly at the Dynamaxed Drampa.

Terri turned back around to face the Normal/Dragon-type, grin still firmly in place. "Now perform- Max Starfall!!!" she commanded.

OOC: Nuzzle Dynamaxed and used Max Starfall (130 BP; base move is Play Rough (90 BP).

The Pokemon continue to unleash their barrage on the Drampa, who quickly pulls up a layer of shields. The assault depletes most of the shields, though a few remain. With it finally its turn to retaliate, the elderly dragon roars in disgust before attempting to fortify itself for the next round of attacks.

It had been Terri's intention to Dynamax Nuzzle and land the Max Starfall that would push Drampa way past the point of putting up a barrier, and maybe set up some Misty Terrain. Instead, Terri had waited too long, and the Max Starfall merely put a huge dent in the shield, instead of in Drampa. And because it struck a shield, no Misty Terrain ensued.

"Hmm..." Terri murmured, looking around. The Snubbull was burned, yes, but that was already done, and, well, Drampa didn't have too terribly many options for spreading status conditions around, did it? And sure, Misty Terrain weakened Dragon-type attacks, but y'know what weakens them even more? Being entirely immune to them. Like Terri's Mimikyu. Or the Cutiefly. Or the Alolan Ninetales. Or the other Mimikyu. Or the Snubbull. And then there was the Alolan Sandshrew- not immune to Dragon, but resistant to it already. Sure, the Dreepy wasn't in the best shape to take a Dragon move, but with all of these Fairy-types present, and Drampa almost certainly picking its targets at random, or at least with little to no regard for type matchups, overall, Terri got the idea that Misty Terrain wasn't overly necessary here. Moreover, that shield looked like one more good Max Move would shatter it entirely, and, well, there was only one Pokémon here in any position to get that done, now wasn't there?

"KYUUU KYUUUUU!" thundered Nuzzle, the Dynamaxed Mimikyu coming to the same conclusion as her Trainer.

Terri nodded. "I agreed completely," she said. She gestured towards Drampa- more specifically to the shield. "Once again! Now perform- Max Starfall!!!" Terri commanded.

OOC: Nuzzle used Max Starfall ((130 BP; base move is Play Rough (90 BP).

As Hailstone watched the battle go by, his eyes were drawn to a young girl standing a bit ways from him and his trainer, wearing an odd smile with the broken-necked Mimikyu by her side. Following the girl’s gaze, he noticed that she was intently watching the Cutiefly unleash a dazzling breeze of fairy magic, like she was waiting for something. As if on cue, once the Cutiefly’s attack petered out, the bracelet on her wrist began to glow with a bright reddish light and the strange smile on her face widened a few teeth. Swiftly, the girl recalled her Mimikyu into her Pokéball, which was then enveloped in the red light from her bracelet, growing dramatically in size. Murmuring softly to the ball, too softly for even his ears to hear, the girl spun around...

“...and DYNAMAX!!!” she yelled out and, with surprising ease, hurled the massive Pokéball into the air. As it reached the apex of the toss, the Mimikyu burst out in an explosion of red light, landing heavily with a massive splash, sending water and bits of coral everywhere.

With a loud bellow and a wave of its spectral claw, the giant Mimikyu unleashed a barrage of sparkling falling stars, the Fairy attacks severely denting the shields of the Drampa, which did not take kindly to the attack. In response, the furry dragon unleashed a furious and powerful roar that struck Hailstone, causing him to cover his sensitive ears in pain, along with several other Pokémon. It then slammed one of its talons down on the ground, sending a wave of jagged steely spikes towards the Dreepy. Its anger not sated, it then lashed out at the poor Cutiefly, who fluttered on ragged wings, before settling down to recollect its strength.

Hailstone glanced up at his trainer, who looked dazed after such a dramatic turn in battle, wide-eyed and slack-jawed. Upon noticing her Sandshrew staring at her, she tried to regain her composure.

“I-I-It looks like we’re on more even footing now that we have a giant Pokemon too!” Sil said.

“Now, third time’s the charm Hailstone… unleash another Ice Ball!”
