Myahoo- After listening to Jet's description of his trial, you rack your brain, considering which of your Pokemon would be best suited to each leg. After a while you settle on a roster, and Jet calls for Drifblim to take off once more. The Ghost type inflates, lifting the basket off the ground in a smooth motion. The descent down to the Cloud Forest is swift and gentle. Drifblim must be used to the route as it heads straight for a small clearing in the forest. There was a few hundred metres of forest before it gave way to the harsh cliff face. It was only a short leg, but that was likely due to it being full of obstructions....

"Alright Emolga, time for take off!" Jet shouts as he releases the Sky Squirrel. The Electric type lets out some sparks as it glides down onto the starting mark, a worn dirt line cutting through the otherwise thick, lush grass. Looking ahead into the trees, you can see that they're tightly packed, vines drape from the branches and the forest floor is littered with fallen logs and branches. "We're ready when you and Snivy are Melissa, make sure you get a quick start, but don't jump too early. We'll lose sight of them once they get into the trees, best we'll manage is the occasional glimpse through the canopy from above." It seemed like if you were going to give Snivy guidance, now was your best chance, because once this leg started, Snivy would be on its own and have to rely on its instincts!

Shortly after Melissa settled on her team for the relay, Jet had his Drifblim take them back up into the sky and then down and over to the Cloud Forest. They ended up hovering over a small clearing in the forest some distance from a sharp drop off a cliff. Was that the end of this leg of the relay? Melissa eyed the distance and the forest in between. It didn't look too far, but what she could see of the terrain under the canopy looked tight, twisty, and complicated. Hopefully, she'd picked the right 'mon for the job, Vine being a snake and all, but they'd find out for sure soon enough.

"Alright, Emolga, time for take off!" Jet shouted from beside her, releasing the flying squirrel who let out some sparks as it glided down to a line in the dirt. "We're ready when you and Snivy are, Melissa," Jet told her. "Make sure you get a quick start, but don't jump too early. We'll lose sight of them once they get into the trees. Best we'll manage is the occasional glimpse through the canopy from above."

Melissa nodded her understanding and sent Vine out onto the basket's railing. Her Snivy landed, stretched, and shook himself before glancing over the edge at the forest down below. He turned back to her with a raised brow, his tail weaving behind him.

She took a deep breath. "Okay, I'd suggest putting up a Sunny Day to keep your speed up, but only if you think it'll help. Definitely keep an eye on your opponent and Pursue them when possible, but we're aiming for that cliff, so don't let them trick you into getting lost. Worst comes to worst, just head straight for the cliff and Cut your way through."

"Quil quil." Wildfire waved as Vine nodded and dropped over the edge of the basket. He hopped and swung his way over to the starting line, trotting up beside Jet's Emolga with a nod of acknowledgement and a considering eye. Once he was settled into a starting position, he tilted his head to one side and waited for the starting signal.

Myahoo- Releasing Snivy from his ball, you take a moment to have a little tactical discussion with the Unovan Grass Starter. Perhaps recalling Snivy's dex entry, you suggest that the Grass Snake start off by setting up a Sunny Day. It was a great idea, the intense sun would promote photosynthesis, giving the Pokemon more energy and increasing its movement speed. While it wouldn't work as well as with a Pokemon with the Chlorophyll ability, the sun would give you a nice edge. Pursuit would also be useful if Vine found himself lagging behind Emolga, although you warn against being too trusting. Finally, if worst came to worst and he could just Cut his way through.

Tactics meeting over, Snivy slinks over to the starting line. Emolga and Snivy share a quick exchange, heated eyes locking for a moment before both switch their focus to the forest in front of them.

On your mark

Set

Go!

Jet kicks the trial off and Emolga surges off the mark with a Quick Attack, zipping into the air and taking an early lead. Vine is hot on its heels, although he's moving a little slower as he concentrates on summoning a Sunny Day. His tail shines bright, intensifying the sun's rays. The benefit is instant. Vine feels a surge of energy and begins to close in on Emolga as they both disappear into the tree line. As they disappear, Drifblim takes off. "Keep your eyes peeled Melissa, blink and you could miss them", Jet chuckles as Drifblim soars over the forest.

Emolga was leaping from branch to branch, its Agility was something to admire. It had done this run many a time, experience was certainly an edge for it. He wasn't going to get disheartened though, he had every chance of winning this. Extending his vines, he pulled himself up into the branches, pursuing Emolga. He just needed to keep close, then if the opportunity presented itself, he could pull ahead! Emolga looked back over its shoulder for a moment, spotting Vine close on its tail. Showing its expertise, the Emolga spins, firing off an Electroweb that stretches between the branches, blocking the path ahead. Thick vines wrap around the trees either side of Vine as he comes to a halt, while the forest floor below him is line with thorn bushes! He needed to figure a way around this obstacle quickly, before Emolga gained too much ground.

Floating above the forest, you scan down through the trees, looking for any sign of Emolga and Vine. You spot Emolga slip through a break in the trees and when you don't spot Vine immediately after, you're left wondering what could be slowing him....

Emolga took off with a Quick Attack the moment the trial started and Vine followed, keeping half his attention on the Flying-type and focusing the other half on creating a Sunny Day. He fanned his tail out, the sun's light shining off of its surface, and Vine smirked as he shot forward after Emolga.

---

Above them, Jet chuckled and said, "Keep your eyes peeled, Melissa. Blink and you could miss them."

Melissa took that as permission to lean against one side of the basket and search the forest below for the racing pair of Pokémon. Wildfire clung tight to her shoulder as he peered over the edge.

---

The Flying-type was Agile, Vine'd give him that, but that just meant he'd have to keep up. Branch to branch, twisting and turning and Vine used his namesake to pull himself into the canopy where he could better Pursue Emolga, though if this kept up, all he'd have to do is follow and then he could Aerial Ace to the end and win!

Emolga glanced over its shoulder at that moment and Vine must've been closer than it was happy with because it spun midair to fire off some kind of Electrical Web right into Vine's planned path. Vine skidded to a stop and quickly glanced around. Thick vines wrapped around the nearest trees, thorn bushes on the ground below. Not that Vine ever thought the ground was an option when there were trees, but good to know.

Alright, so Magical Leaf to hopefully shred the Electrical Web and open up the way, but if that doesn't work, he was gonna use the nearest vines to go up and over.

---

"Quil quil cyndaquil," Wildfire murmured, pointing out Jet's Emolga.

"I see him." Melissa peered as best she could through the trees. "No Vine though?"

"Cyn da."

She hummed and searched harder. Maybe she missed him, since green on green and all.

Myahoo- As you watch on nervously from above, Vine is dealing with his first real obstacle.....

Emolga was streaking ahead, gaining more and more ground with each passing second. The Snivy focused, staring through the Electroweb. He had to get through. With a swish of his tail, Vine sends a storm of Magical Leaves towards the web, but they fizzle and burnt out as soon as they come into contact with the web. Damn! Plan B it was! Extending his vines, the Unovan starter pulls himself up into the canopy, up and over the web. Unfortunately he isn't the only thing in the canopy. Vine pulls himself right into a Spearow nest! The angry birds are quick to take wing, pursuing Snivy while squawking aggressively.

You hear the commotion below and immediately fear the worst. Vine slips through the break in the canopy, but he is followed closely by a flock of angry Spearow!

With the birds hot on his tail, Vine dives back down under the canopy, losing the furious flock as he slips back down through the thick tangle of branches. He makes a beeline for his destination, moving as fast as he can as he attempts to close the gap between Emolga and himself once more. Thankfully it isn't long before he spots the Electric/Flying type and it seems it has hit a bit of a snag as well. The trees ahead are draped in Sticky Webs. A whole horde of web slingers would've had to have set this up! Emolga is struggling to get through the webs, its Air Slashes doing little to break through the tough fibres. Vine had two choices. He could try and cut his way through as well, or he could risk going further up into the canopy and put himself at risk of another Spearow attack.....

But this time, instead of cloud gazing, he was looking towards the mountain. Always watching over the Cloud Garden, it was a reminder that people needed to reach for the stars to reach their dreams.

"I hate this farm. I hate this place. I just, I don' know anything besides taking care of the Orchard with Granny and Ma. It's all I know, but that's what makes me want to leave. Whenever I look at the sky, I know there's more out there then picking berries or gatherin' honey. I've heard there's a big city in this land. I want to go there. Small country boy finding his way in the big city. Ain't that a cliche, huh?" He chuckled a little bit before turning towards you. His voice was soft, demure, and his eyes were glistening. Watery aquamarines staring into you, being highlighted by his star-kissed skin.

"Tell me Alice. What's it like out there. What's it like to follow your dreams? To be able to follow your own song and dance and not worry 'bout what others think of you? I just.." at this point he was sobbing into his own hands. It was obvious enough that he had to bare the burden of being the 'man' of the family. His father was no where in sight and it seemed that the rest of his family din't even want to approach the subject.

You knew you had to get the task at hand done, but the teen in front of you needed some consoling. At least, you needed to do some along the way. But, before you were able to truly respond to him, Isaac swiped his hand across his face a sniffled a little. He was still shaking, but there was something in him that changed.

"Let's just get this done. All we need to do is take those buckets there." He pointed to a few buckets towards the entrance of the grove. "And scrape the honey off of the tree. Be careful, the Combee have been a lot more agitated as of late." He warned as he grabbed two buckets and headed in.

What do you do?
The plight that Isaac struggled with was one that Alice had known all her life. Her parents had always had high hopes of her, but really, she had been a failure to launch. She hadn't been popular at school like her mother and had taken longer than all of her peers to find work, and it had been buried in her niches and often being the butt of jokes where she featured. It had been ironic that her escapism had become her life: the world of Pokemon, becoming an idol whereas before she'd resigned to being a fan. And still, if this world knew some of the shit that she had done and how she was off camera, Alice wasn't sure that the career path would remain open to her. Technically she was already 'too old'.

Had waiting for him to finish been her mistake? Before Alice could try to comfort him, the boy had sucked up his sadness and wiped away those manly tears. Honestly, she had been proud of him for expressing his emotions in front of a stranger, and he'd clearly needed it. It was just a shame that he had felt the need to suppress it all again.

"Yeah, no worries, we'll get to it. But let's talk about this again after, yeah? I've been through some of this and I can relate, and I like to listen. You don't need to keep it all to yourself anymore." Alice assured him. Looking to her Pokemon, she added, "Y'all heard the man! Machi, can you take one bucket? Bentley, go with Isaac and act as his guard, your moves come in really handy. Dutchess, you keep an eye out for us, okay?"

The shiny Bellsprout dismounted from her hair to join Isaac as requested, the shiny Furfrou sticking with her new owner. With arrangements made, it was time to get to work!

((Side note, changing Nani's nickname to Machi. Tis the same Pokemon, just renamed!))

Distraught by the troublemaker’s attempt at erasing all of his hard work, Chachi took pursuit of what Pokemon Revel’s Pokedex revealed as an Applin. Revel followed her Pokemon in the chase, so Ringo turned and ran after the other pair of berry poachers. As the Pokedex entry identified, Applin was a small worm that disguised itself within a Leppa exterior and just as this Pokemon’s appearance was deceptive, so was its perceived mobility. It likely wouldn’t have won any footraces at the Pokeathlon in Johto, but it sure knew the ins and outs of the orchard as it dipped and weaved between the trees. Having had enough of this pursuit, Revel called out for Chachi to stop it in its tracks.

Encouraged by Revel’s words, the Piplup regained focus and took a deep breath. A surge of aquatic energy welled up within the small penguin’s chest before releasing it in a flood of moisture that rapidly turned into a pool of water. The torrent gushed forward in the direction of the Applin, and Chachi rode on top of it like he was bodyboarding. The small wave of water and Piplup both crashed into the berry thief, knocking the bucket of Leppa Berries off balance from the Applin’s head. The bucket toppled over as some berries spilled out. It would seem that the jig was up for the berry burglar, but the sentient Leppa Berry didn’t seem too bothered as both of its natural defenses resisted the watery attack.

The Applin’s eyes and tail suddenly Withdrew into its fruity shell as it hardened its defenses. Just in time too, as Chachi followed up his assault with a hard Pound to little effect. Frustrated, Chachi peered down at his foe, wondering why it would just cower up and pretend it was just a normal berry once again after it had already been caught red-handed. However, the young Piplup had played right into the Applin’s proverbial hand once more as the worm’s appendages burst from its shell and knocked Chachi back in Astonishment. It would seem that this small wyrm was not to be underestimated.
Revel seems to find her and Chachi in a bind. She was well-aware of type advantages, but she didn't quite expect to be on the disadvantaged side. And to an Applin no less! Chachi towers over the sentient berry but even it can pack quite a punch. Revel runs towards the Piplup, asking if he's okay. Despite the damage he took with the Applin's Astonish, Chachi's energy doesn't seem to deter him. In fact, the attack made him even more angry. Chachi uses Aqua Ring on himself to recover some of the strength that he lost. "Piplup!" he Growls at the Applin in frustration.

It seems like the Piplup's Water-type moves won't do them much good here. At the same time, they’ve at least slowed down the culprit, so they can gather their basket and make their way back. But, the Applin could cause trouble somewhere else. And yet Revel doesn’t want to hurt the poor thing either. She wonders if the Applewoods take these Pokemon in, or deal with them however they do it. It doesn't seem like they'd be too tough on naughty berry-stealing berry lookalikes.

“It’s okay,” Revel tells Chachi, whose face is still scrunched up looking at the Applin. “We did slow it down, so that's not bad! Go gather the berries in your basket.” Chachi obliges and starts to gather the fallen berries in the basket, although he occasionally shoots dirty looks at the Applin. Chachi carefully inspects every Leppa berry that he picks up. He looks around it, shakes it, sniffs it somehow, before putting it in his basket. Revel walks toward the Applin and bends down to talk to it. Will it listen to reason? Hopefully. Revel surmises it's the best option that they have without wearing themselves out as it is.

“That was… not a nice thing to do,” Revel tells the Leppa lookalike, regarding Chachi’s anger. “You really startled us back there.” “Plup!” Chachi exclaims in agreement, pausing from picking up the toppled berries to shake his fin holding a Leppa. “Piplup, Piplup, plup, plup, plup!” He sounds like he was scolding the Applin. Revel nods in acknowledgement. “See? He worked hard picking those berries! Let me tell you, it doesn't feel good being tired and not getting anything out of it.”

Chachi finishes gathering the berries. He picks up his basket and stands next to Revel, ready to head back. He mutters under his beak as he looks at the Applin. Revel stands up. “Tell you what,” she tells the Applin, in a stern but gentle tone. “Let’s go back to the orchard. We’ll let Ringo decide your punishment. She won’t be very happy.” She plans to carry the Applin in her hand all the way back to make sure that it doesn’t escape scot-free. Picking berries is already tiring enough; chasing a tiny apple after that would be a nightmare.

Sunflora Cloud Garden - o7

Rose Garden

Slash: Confident the tag team can hold their own you volley another round of orders in efforts to turn the tide of the battle. The Bee Fly bobs its head affirmatively as it ousts an Aromatic Mist in all directions adding to the overpowering concoction of scents; while the move cloaks her whereabouts the Bewear had locked onto her fix already, steamrolling ahead blindly but connecting all the same. The bug squeaks as its flattened like a pancake, at least spared of any further trampling as the cloying scent overwhelms the Bewear’s senses to the point of a sneezing fit. With a loud achoo the ursine skids face first against the lawn falling out of its spin, clumps of grass and soil kicked up in its wake. The tumble manages to free Shuckle too, the inebriated Mold Pokemon disconnecting from Bewear’s grip looking queasy from a mix of inertia and fermented berries… You don't happen to have a bag for him to vomit in?

With a wide opening Illuminise sends a Thunderbolt arcing down, the foe’s fur a little more frazzled as it attempts to push back to its feet. The Cutiefly joins in with a Moonblast, the lunar flare almost knocking it off balance! The dynamic duo aren’t about to let up, more sparks flying as Illuminise lets loose another Thunderbolt with no time for recovery. Finding a working rhythm the Cutiefly dazzles the foe with another Moonblast, finishing off the combo and what what could be the battle... Pushed to the brink a red mist now descends on the usually placid Bewear, charging full steam ahead with a tackle that Takes the two airborne insects Down from flight. Showing it means business the Bewear moves into its final gambit, scooping up the felled fighters and locking them in a tight Bind – the bear hug threatening to squeeze the life out of them!

Vine swept his tail through the air, sending a storm of Magical Leaves spinning towards the web, but they sizzled and burned out the moment they touched the web. Damn electricity. He probably wouldn't be able to take the web down without touching it and that just seemed like a bad idea all around.

Instead, he turned to the nearest tree and swung his vines up into the canopy, pulling himself up and over the web...only to pull himself through a Spearow nest. He quickly reoriented himself and ran, hearing the Spearow take off after him, squawking aggressively as Spearow do.

Vine dove back down past the canopy, the thick tangle of branches preventing the Spearow from following him, but he was pretty sure they'd be right back on his tail the moment he popped his head out. Still, that was a problem for later as he raced to catch up to the Emolga, who probably took great advantage of Vine's momentary difficulty to get far, far ahead.

Or not. The Snivy slowed as he spotted the flying squirrel struggling with something up ahead. Some kind of...web, it looked like. Not electrical or Vine doubted it would be giving the Emolga as much trouble as these were, but still enough that Air Slashes didn't seem to be doing much.

He could help cut through the webs, probably with a Leaf Blade or just a plain Cut, but that would give his opponent the opportunity to race ahead while Vine was busy. On the other hand, the Spearow probably weren't so far behind that they wouldn't see him if he popped out of the canopy. Then again, he did have some options for dealing with them...

Vine took a moment to estimate how long it would take Emolga to cut through the Webs and then headed up into the canopy again, this time prepared for a possible Spearow attack. He planned to go with either Magical Leaf, so he didn't have to aim, or Twister if there were a lot of them, but worst came to worst, he'd dive back down and Cut through any Webs in his way, though he hoped it wouldn't come to that. There was always the chance that he'd run smack into a Web and find out exactly why the Emolga was having such difficulties on its own.

---

"There he goes," Melissa said as Vine burst through the canopy, shortly followed by some irritated-looking Spearow.

"Quil." Wildfire winced.

"I know, right?" They watched Vine dive back under the canopy and the small flock of Spearow circle his entry point for a few moments. "Hopefully, he has a plan for them, in case they cross his path again."

"Qui-il," her starter agreed.

Revel and Chachi were irritated that little Leppa thief retaliated when it was cornered, but as they stopped to pick up the spilled berries, they were wrong to assume that the worm Pokemon was finished with engaging them in combat. “Pliiin!” it cries out in frustration and begins hopping about angrily. It lunged forward and slammed into the Astonished Chachi, causing the Piplup to drop the bucket of Leppa Berries once again. Applin was getting worked up into a frenzy now, none too pleased that it was ignored as an opponent and began to roll around on the ground. It’s actions were peculiar at first, but they made a lot more sense when it suddenly zoomed forward, Rolling Out into Chachi for a hard hit. A couple of the berries on the ground were squashed in the process.

Meanwhile, in another part of the orchard unbeknownst to Revel and Chachi, Ringo continued her pursuit of the Bounsweet and Cherubi as they sped off with surprising speed. The farm girl was not to be underestimated however, her physical fitness allowing her to keep up with the berry thieves. Seeing as the pair didn’t seem to want to stop any time soon, Ringo fell back and stealthily continued following them from behind the cover of trees. Once they noticed that they had apparently lost her, the berry pair seemed to relax a bit and turned a different direction. Ringo was curious to where they were leading her, but she patiently followed them as she waited for the right time to strike.

lilboocorsola:
Jess’s plan seemed to pull off without a hitch as Iris and Lance were able to successfully pry the dazed Comfey from Shiinotic’s neck. Both Comfey and the Flabébé seemed completely out of it, so Jess needed to take special care of them as they immediately turned to make their retreat. As Jess and her Pokemon fled through the hazy mushroom covered grove, they noticed a small army of Morelull hopping after them in pursuit, but the Shiinotic was nowhere to be seen.

While the Morelull weren’t particularly fast, they still pursued the group relentlessly, so Jess came up with a strategy to attempt to slow them down. Iris fired off a blanket of electrical webbing that covered their tracks while Lance added a layer of Spikes on top of it. The first wave of Morelull were immediately impeded by the traps, but the mushrooms behind them simply hopped across their allies’ backs to get over them. Lance emitted a blinding Flash which knocked the next wave off their balance causing them to fall over, but again, the ensuing wave after that hopped over their fallen allies as well. Iris and Lance attempted to trip them up with a pair of Grass Knots, but once again the Morelull kept coming. On top of that, Jess began to notice that the Morelull weren’t only coming from behind them, but were also beginning to close in around their sides. The trees seemed to be glowing in all directions. It was time to keep moving.

The trio continued running through the jungle-like grove as the humidity slowly drained their stamina. A ray of light began to pulse throughout the trees in all directions, confusing and disorienting them as they ran. Iris attempted to pull up a barrier to Safeguard them from the effects, but it was just a moment too late; a brief moment of Jess losing her focus caused her and her Pokemon to lose their bearing on which direction they were running. They darted in and out of the trees, but everywhere they went seemed to be a dead end of angry mushrooms. Jess noticed a path leading to a clearing up ahead and hurried towards it as she thought it was their ticket out. She couldn’t have been more wrong; as they entered the opening, she stood face to face with a rather angry looking Shiinotic.

Mushrooms, mushrooms - and more mushrooms. No matter where the group went as they fled through the forest, it seemed there was another endless wave of fungi awaiting them. Try as they might to trip up their relentless pursuers, further reinforcements simply arrived to take the fallen's place, replacing ranks as soon as they were broken by using their own comrades as stepping stones over the landmines. Carefully circling around their prey, a fairy ring closing in. What was it her friend had said? The center was caused by decomposing corpses, drawing nutrients deep into the soil...

She shuddered and tried to focus, quickening her step. However, the trees themselves seemed to be brightening in all directions - blinding and disorienting. Though Iris attempted to guard them from the menacing glow, it was too late; a momentary distraction caused Jess to lose track of the route back to the Rose Garden, and so they stumbled aimlessly over rocks and roots through the thick mushroom maze, searching desperately for an escape as the draining heat and dampness steadily sapped at their strength.

Finally, Jess caught sight of a trail winding to what appeared to be a clearing up ahead, and headed along it in hopes of finding freedom - but instead came face to face with Shiinotic's furious expression. The girl gulped as she clutched the still confused Comfey and Flabébé tight to her chest, determined not to let the overgrown fungus get its greedy filaments on her friends again. If Oberon wanted a servant so badly, then she wasn't giving up without a fight.

"Fine then, I didn't want it to have to come to this, but I guess we'll have to do things the hard way. Iris, blast this big guy with SILVER WIND, followed by a SIGNAL BEAM. Lance, since you haven't had any head-on battle experience, I want you to use GROWTH first, and then give him a good glob of SLUDGE BOMB to see how he likes the taste."

Profile

The mist ploy seemed to have paid off, thankfully. Cutiefly was taking the brunt of the hits, but they'd been able to slowly but surely wear down the bear. They'd even been able to free the Mold Pokemon from the big teddy's grip as the big fluff tumbled wildly.

PJ drifted his position slowly to over where the Shuckle had tumbled. While Bewear was occupied, he wouldn't be able to rush over to snatch him back up. He took up a place next to Shuckle, letting Lemon stand guard in front. Of course, that was only half the problem solved, and the hard part was not yet over. He locked eyes with Lemon briefly, and he knew his Watchog didn't need to be told anything extra, he knew to protect the duo should the worst happen.

However, Bewear was seemingly down to a desperation ploy, both promising and scary. He was making good use of his size advantage, and had been able to charge both the bugs, and proceed to snatch them up tight in his arm. A testy situation, to be sure, but he could "spot the thread", as his uncle would say. Gears were turning in PJ's mind. and he could see it coming together.

"Cutiefly, Ally Switch with Terri, then try to buzz out of the gap created and get some distance! The Moonblast it, just try to be aware of Terri." His Illumise was several times larger than the bee fly, so Cutiefly should have no problem using its own version of size advantage. "Terri, after the Ally Switch, use a Tackle, try to use what leeway you have to slam into the bear's face. Try to wriggle free if you can, and follow up with a Thunderbolt." She'd have to draw most of his attention for a stint to save Cutiefly from more damage, but she could deal with it. PJ was sure she could. She shouldn't have to endure much longer.

Myahoo- Vine had worked through one obstacle but was now faced with another. The Sticky Webs were already proving to be difficult for Emolga, who was making little progress with his Air Slashes. Rather than risk dealing with the webs, Vine decides to risk the wrath of the Spearow once more. He rises up into the canopy again, having to travel right to the top in order to avoid the mass of webs. The Keen Eyed Spearow are quick to spot him and are hot on Vine's tail. The Snivy leaps from branch to branch, quickly advancing, but the Spearow surge forward with astonishing agility. Vine attempts to fend them off, first with Magical Leaves that do little to halt the advance of the birds, but when that fails, he summons a mighty Twister that manages to hinder their ranks. Unfortunately, it seems to have only weeded out the weak.

The two remaining Spearow begin to glow, growing much larger as they evolve into a fearsome pair of Fearow! Vine looks back over his shoulder, just as a the pair of newly evolved Pokemon dive in. Beaks spinning like drills, they harass the poor Grass type, who is forced to take evasive action, limiting his progress. They're quickly wearing him down and the mountain that marked the end of this leg was getting closer. He had no way of knowing whether the webs still lined the forest below him, nor did he know whether or not Emolga had overcome them. At this rate though, the Fearow would finish him off before he finished the leg.

You can't help but be filled with concern as Vine pokes back up into the canopy. You watch as the Spearow close in, as Vine knocks most of them away with Twister and as the remaining Spearow evolve....

Vine wasn't in a great spot, but was Emolga doing any better? The end of the leg was quickly approaching. You could see the edge of the forest. An old, leafless tree sits away from the forest edge, by the mountainside. "That'll be the starting post for the next leg, once our Pokemon touch the tree, our next Pokemon can take off." Jet explains, before letting out a high pitched whistle. Pidgeot drops down from the clouds, opening its wings to slow its descent before landing gracefully on the lone tree. Would Swablu be able to match the powerful Pidgeot? Hopefully Vine could secure you a head start.....

Much to her dismay, the disorienting lights had led Jess, Iris, and Lance right back face to face with the angry Shiinotic. The army of mushrooms seemed determined to stop them from leaving with their captives, and Jess knew that a confrontation was inevitable at this point. Steeling herself for a tough battle, Jess called out her strategy to Iris and Lance.

Iris took initiative to begin the battle, starting by blowing a powdery gust. She then followed up the Silver Wind with an immediate Signal Beam right after, both attacks hitting the Shiinotic head on. A scowl formed on the mushroom’s face, and while Lance began to Grow larger, the Shiinotic released a blinding Dazzling Gleam to hit both of its opponents. Shiinotic then Ingrained its roots in the damp soil as it instantly began to absorb nutrients from it.

Now that he was charged up and ready to strike, Lance fired off a powerful Sludge Bomb that easily connected with the now immobile Shiinotic. The quad effective attack certainly stung, and Shiinotic let out a furious hiss. It focused its attention on the Budew and began to Sap Lance’s Strength. Lance immediately started feeling physically drained, while Shiinotic suddenly appeared much better off than it was moments before. Now that it was feeling much more physically fit, Shiinotic turned its attention to Iris, not forgetting about the barrage she pepper it with earlier. Shiinotic formed a pink ball of energy in its hands and unleashed a powerful Moonblast on the Sewaddle. As Shiinotic prepared for the next round of action, it began pantomiming its hands as if it were about to erect some sort of barrier. What will Jess do?

Following his lead, you and your Machoke each grab a bucket while your Bellsprout goes off ahead to catch up with the teen. Even with what he had just said, it had to wait. Getting the job done was more important at this time. With your Furfrou watching behind you, you head into the forested grove.

The small grove was pretty dark compared to the rest of the orchard. The trees were more closely tied together, and the large amount of foliage blocked out the sunlight. Small rays were able to penetrate through the thick covering of leaves, but only enough to illuminate the bath before you. Luckily, there didn't seemed to actually be much danger on the road.

You then caught up with Bentley and Isaac, who were stopped at what seemed to be a large wall of light. Getting closer, you realized it was natural sunlight, and you were standing at the entrance of a small meadow. Flowers of various sizes and colors were in bloom, and you could see a large tree with golden leaves standing tall over its smaller kin. Various Combee flew through the meadow, collecting pollen from the flowers and bringing it towards the tree. The tree itself was covered in a thick layer of honey, so the job looked simple enough. Just scrape the honey off of the tree in the buckets, and head back.

Though, taking a closer look, you could tell that there were a group of Combee circling around the tree. It looked like they were on some type of patrol, and looked extremely agitated. Was it due to Isaac gathering honey here earlier? The teen looked at you with a look of bewilderment.

"They usually never do that. Only reason those Combees were c-chasing me was because I accidentally stepped on one. I don't like 'em regardless, but, it was scary... I don't think that would be enough to cause them to do this..." he muttered. Before you could ponder further, you see a giant silhouette descent into the meadow.

It was a Vespiquen, who seemed a bit larger than normal. The Combee looked at her with malicious intent. This wasn't their queen. You could tell that much. But why would this Vespiquen be here then?

What do you do?

Alice had thought that she was to be taking on the other trees, but perhaps not. That was a shame, because the thick canopy of the trees had meant that this had been a nice and cool walk compared to the open plains and farmyard. It had been quite refreshing! Soon though, she and her loyal dog had caught up with Isaac, and he was staring out at quite the gem.

The meadow was beautiful, and Alice had never seen one quite as beautiful as this for herself. The colourful flowers were lit up perfectly by the bearing rays, and the Combee seemed to be happily buzzing around and doing their job. Or rather, some of them were... What looked to be a patrol seemed the absolute opposite of pleased. Alice's first thought might have been that they didn't want Isaac and Bentley to take the honey, but as her blue eyes sighted the incoming Vespiquen... Perhaps things were more complicated than that.

"I don't think the moves you have are too much of an advantage for Vespiquen, Dutchess. I want you to hang back and observe for me and Isaac, you're loud enough to let us know if there's back up we don't spot." Alice explained, taking out a Love Ball. It was cold to the touch. "Stay here, I'm gonna handle this."

Her reassurance given to the boy, Alice moved into the meadow, releasing a small Pokemon as she did. The ice type's fur was a pristine white, crystals dusting off her little tails, eyes like glass. They had seen more than her small, sweet size might suggest - she was elegant, but hardened: an elegant easter hatch hailing from Alola.

"Combee, are you guys in trouble? Do you need a hand?" Alice called out to the patrols, wanting them to know her intentions before they could turn their stingers on her. Nina the Alolapix remained at her heel, ready for action. "We'll defend your grove if you need it - Isaac just wants to safely grab some honey. Does that deal work for you? Then we'll be out of your way."

The bout started strong on their side with Sewaddle sending a stream of silver dust at the opponent, followed by a spotlight beam like a lighthouse that struck Matango straight in its scowling face. As Iris covered for her younger and more inexperienced partner, Lance took the opportunity to heighten himself and magnify his might. Shiinotic responded by shining its own radiance at both adversaries, before planting itself firm in the earth, reaching roots deep in the rich soil to restore its own energy. However, this also left it a sitting duck as Lance gathered a sphere of toxic goop and lobbed it directly at the open target, drenching in acid and anguish.

The Shiinotic hissed angrily as it shifted its attention to the embiggened bud, extending filaments further to wrap around Lance as it choked life out like a weed, stealing added strength for itself. Lance shuddered weakly when released, shrunken slightly back to somewhat normal size. Shiinotic then turned again to Iris, blasting a powerful ball of lunar light in revenge for before. As it retreated back to its station to prep for the next round, the mushroom monarch appeared to mimic a Mr. Mime by waving its hands in a mysterious motion, as if barricading itself behind some invisible forcefield... Jess grimaced as she guessed what it was up to, which meant her options from now on would be much more limited.

"Well it looks like we'll just have to keep on the offensive... Iris, use AIR SLASH, and then BUG BITE those roots to see if you can dislodge them. Lance, distract it with EXTRASENSORY, and then try another SLUDGE BOMB!"

Vine climbed up and up and up, the Webs reaching much further than he expected, and glanced around the moment he broke through the canopy. Spotting the flock of Spearow that had chased him earlier, he shot off away from them and towards the mountain, hearing them give chase. They caught up quickly, much quicker than he expected--and that was two miscalculations now, Vine thought to himself sourly--and Vine threw some Magical Leaves to try to fend them off. Not that the attack seemed to do much more than piss the flock off more.

Vine growled under his breath and spun up a Twister to get the Spearow off his back, which worked, briefly, before it turned out to be his third miscalculation in a row. He managed to knock most of the Spearow off his tail, but two remained and they didn't remain as Spearow. No. Just as he was checking to make sure he got all of them, those two remaining Spearow just had to evolve and come after him with Drill Beaks!

The Grass-type immediately started darting back and forth, zig-zagging, and anything he could think of to keep them from scoring a direct hit because he just knew it was gonna hurt. He wracked his brain, trying to find some way to leave the Fearow behind, but there was no way to know if there were still Webs in the branches beneath his feet.

He glanced back and ducked, throwing himself to one side to dodge a Fearow's pass. Yeah, actually, he'd take the Webs over the Fearow now, please and thank you. A quick check to see if his Sunny Day was still up and then he'd either kick up a Leaf Tornado to hopefully make it difficult for them to spot him, use an Iron Tail like a mirror to blind them, or just swing a Solar Beam around to make them scatter. If they still wouldn't leave him alone, he was dropping back under and dealing with whatever was under there instead.

...he made a mental note to get something Electric or Ice, just in case he ever ended up in a situation like this again. Or, maybe Rock. He had the Bond to do it and he had a very clear lesson on why Melissa liked to teach off-type moves first. Especially ones that could super effectively hit types one was weak against.

---

"Must be something he doesn't want to deal with," Melissa muttered as they watched Vine pop back up through the canopy and immediately get chased by the flock of Spearow from earlier.

"Quil cyndaquil cyn cynda quil quil cyn da quil?" Wildfire pointed out.

"He must've thought it was," Melissa said, wincing as Vine knocked all but two Spearow off his tail, only for those two to evolve. "Aaaand now it probably isn't."

Wildfire nodded and pointed. "Quil cynda quil cyn da."

Melissa estimated Vine's path and spotted the mountain marking the end of this leg of the relay. An old, leafless tree stood all by itself past the forest's edge.

"That'll be the starting post for the next leg," Jet explained. "Once our Pokémon touch the tree, our next Pokémon can take off." He then whistled and his Pidgeot dropped down from the clouds, coasting down to land gracefully in the tree.

Melissa took that as her cue to send Cirrus out, her Swablu landing on the basket's rim like his teammate had not too long ago. Cirrus chirped and tilted his head to one side.

"Soon," Melissa told him and pointed out the tree where Jet's Pidgeot was perched. "As soon as Vine touches the tree, it's your turn, so you probably wanna get down there too. Oh, and I'd recommend you start with an Agility first, but it's your call."

"Quil quil," Wildfire said. Cirrus bobbed his head, chirped wryly, and then took off from the basket to head to where his opponent waited.

Slash: Both bug Pokemon had gone blue in the face, the Bewear’s headlock tightening with each passing second. You’d need to act fast to synch a victory, calling on the Bee Fly’s diverse movepool to cook up a plan so crazy it just might work. With time slipping away the Cutiefly springs into action, blinking as it uses its psychic power to Switch places with its Ally. This gives the fairy-type some much needed wiggle space to escape the bear’s mitts while Terri is teleported into an even tighter squeeze! Her attempts to Tackle are moot but Cutiefly quickly comes to the rescue, lobbing a Moon Blast at point blank range. With a pink explosion the blast sends the Bewear reeling, releasing its grip of Illuminise in the nick of time. With a loud thud the aggressor crashes to the ground, flattening the neatly kept lavender bushes in its wake. Terri gasps for air as she feebly flits to safety, her neck visibly bruised – albeit eased by the knowledge Bewear was down for the count. Terri gained 3 levels!

With your camp out of harm’s way you fix your attention back to Shuckle, the dizzying kidnap and fermented mix swilling around his carapace leaving him feeling queasy… He potters off to the nearest bush to retch up some of the juices, the spewing at least helping him sober up some. Returning to his senses he does his rounds offering Berry Juice to the injured insects, replenishing their health stores. He then heads the comatose Bewear’s way, dripping juice into its mouth to resuscitate it. Wait, what?! The play nice tactics must have been contagious, Shuckle flattered that the kidnapper had taken an interest in its spoils and more than willing to share. There was plenty to go around with all the ingredients you lent him, after all.

The roused Bewear seems stunned by the unexpected act of kindness, reciprocating by locking Shuckle in one of its signature hugs – although this time the friendly sort. Jumping to its feet the ursine Pokemon gazes up at the sun which was fast creeping to midday, it had a look of realisation on its face as though it was running late for another engagement. In an unexpected heel turn he invites you to follow, but first up you had Cutiefly to deal with. With the day won it looked about ready to return to its pollination, unless you had a question for it?

His trick worked wonders. Cutiefly switched his place with Terri and got free from the grapple, and felled the Strong Arm Pokemon with a final blast of lunar power. Terri definitely took some punishment from the tight hug, but she managed to get free as the Bewear got knocked back, and knocked out cold. (Terri the Illumise goes from Level 2 => Level 5! Terri Learned Sweet Scent!)

He couldn't wait to tell his uncle about this battle. He'd proud of the teamwork PJ had been able to put together. Shuckle seemed to enjoy it as well, offering a round of his Berry Juice to both bugs and even the Bewear, bringing him back to consciousness. The costume bear seemed very moved by the gesture, and wrapped up the Mold Pokemon is a different, more friendly, hug.

PJ patted Terri's head and rubbed Lemon's back. "You both did very well today. I'm so proud of both of you." Terri hummed with joy and Lemon half-closed his eyes in enjoyment.

Bewear jumped to its feet and had a look cross his face, maybe some kind of sudden realisation? PJ wasn't sure, but the wild Pokemon gestured for PJ to follow him. PJ gestured with one finger to hold on just a minute. He still had to speak with Cutiefly.

"You're really strong!" PJ half-shouted to him. He winced, hearing how loud his voice was. "Sorry, I was still using my Pokemon battle voice." He chucked nervously. Had he proven himself capable enough to earn the bug's loyalty? He'd pulled off the win, but both Cutiefly and his Illumise had really gotten hurt in the process. He supposed there was really only one way to find out. "Would you like to come with me as I travel?" He asked, pulling out a PokeBall [1/5] and holding it out. "I could really use an awesome little guy like you on my team."

Myahoo- No pursued by dangerous foes, Vine was in a world of strife. Luckily for him, his leg of the race was nearly over. It had been a while since he last saw Emolga, it was impossible for him to tell whether or not he was still in the lead. He had to ignore that for now, he just needed to focus on getting to the end as quick as he could. That said, he'd struggle to make it there if the Fearow had any say in it. The pair of newly evolved birds were relentless, they were extremely territorial. Vine just had to keep them far enough away....

With the sun still shining brightly on him, Vine whips up a Leaf Tornado, that forces the Fearow back, but only for a moment. They whip their powerful wings together, creating a tremendous Whirlwind! The wind cuts through the Leaf Tornado with ease and drives Vine forward, propelling him towards the end of the leg!

Seeing Vine close in, Cirrus drifts down to his starting position, ready for the Grass types arrival. Pidgeot shoots the Swablu a look as it lands on a nearby branch before both crane their necks back, looking at the forest with anticipation.

Vine leaps from the trees, landing on the soft ground as he sprints towards the old tree by the mountainside. His legs ache, his chest heaves, but he knows he is almost there. There was no sign of Emolga, Pidgeot was still on the tree....... He was in the lead! He reaches out and touches the tree, letting out a triumphant cry as he does so. Taking that as his cue, Cirrus takes off with a burst of agility, wings beating as he quickly rises upwards. Emolga finally emerges from the forests, webs still streaming from him as he makes his way towards the finish. Cirrus had an early lead thanks to Vine, but Pidgeot would be hot on his tail soon. How would he proceed?

Vine gained 3 levels!

Alright, so diplomacy didn’t work out. At least Revel tried. Though Chachi was a little more upset, now that the fruit (literally) of his hard work has been simply squashed by the thief. Also literally. It didn’t help that the Rollout hit him pretty hard either. After the Applin’s Rollout, the pair take cover behind some nearby trees to formulate their next move.

“Piplup!” Chachi complains to his trainer as he uses Aqua Ring on himself. He was already geared up for battle anyway, so he might as well just have gone for it. “Right, sorry, I knew that,” Revel responds apologetically, her hands pressed together. “It’s just… it seems like we’re at a disadvantage right now. That little thing looks tough.” “Plup plup!” Chachi points to himself, then buffs up his chest. “Alright,” Revel nods. “Yes, you’re tough too. I’m sorry for not making you battle earlier. We’ll go for it this time. Seems like that’s our only option anyway.” Chachi eagerly nods. Clearly he’s not going down without a fight now. Revel just has to say the word, and Chachi will make his move.

But it seems like the move right now is… not to make a move? At least for now. Revel and Chachi watch from behind the tree, careful not to let themselves enter the Applin’s line of sight. Judging from the moves it made earlier, it’s really trying to engage its enemy in battle. “Plup, plup?” Chachi muses. Why is the Applin so upset when it’s the one who caused trouble in the first place anyway, eating his Leppa berries?

“I know,” Revel responds. “But I reckon it’ll wear itself out attacking and attacking like that.” She takes a deep breath then turns to Chachi. “Let’s wait till it gets distracted or out of focus. When it does, try to get close to it, but Surf away when it charges at you. When you get close enough, hit it with Icy Wind, and if you get even closer, use Aerial Ace.” Chachi makes a mental note of all those and nods at his Trainer’s instructions with fiery, fighting eyes.

Still hiding behind a tree, Chachi carefully but determinedly watches the Applin, ready and waiting for its next move. It’s time to show this Leppa-looking troublemaker that it messed with the wrong penguin.

Rose Garden

Slash: With the Rose Garden returned to its usual tranquillity your short but sweet alliance with Cutiefly had ran its course. It beats its wings ready to return to its pollinating business until you steal back its attention with a proposal; testing chemistry through battle you decide it’s more than worthy of a spot on your team, provided it was happy enough to up and leave its flowery home. Suspense fills the air as the Bee Fly considers your outstretched hand, pixel eyes flickering enthusiastically as it gives the Pokeball a kiss that activates its capture mechanic. The ball cracks open and swallows the bug in a shimmer, shaking with little resistance before coming to a stop, the resounding click indicating success!

You caught a Lv.10 Male It knows the TM Ally Switch and EM Aromatic Mist!

Pocketing the ball with a spring in your step you turn attention back to Bewear, a hurried strain on its face as it waves you to follow again. Time was slipping away and it didn’t have a second to spare, breaking into another run forcing you to follow or be left behind. You’re given a tour spanning all corners of the garden as you give chase – from the pinkish carnations of Liligant’s domain to the tropical mangosteens of Tsareena’s – inviting you to stop and bask in their sweet aromas if not for the rush you were in. Minutes roll by until you eventually break into an acre of the garden which was strikingly unkempt, neat lawns replaced with unruly grasses, rainbow freckles of wildflowers adorning their green. While not tended to the stretch of wild offered a stunning view of the surrounding foothills and an entirely different assortment of wildlife; from Galarian Rapidash cantering free to Snorlax lazing about in large, self-made clearings, it appeared Pokemon were given free reign over this forgotten patch of land.

Lungs threatening to give in you eventually come to stop at an enormous tree stump, wide enough to fit your entire camp and then some. This appeared to be the spot Bewear was taking you to, climbing atop and assembling an assortment of items it had spent the whole morning gathering. You notice among the spoils what looked like a Pre-Cooked Burger, a pack of Instant Noodles and a tin of Coconut Milk – surrounding the food items were a punnet of berries including Figy, Chilean, Pomeg, Rawst and Aspear. It had even managed to get its mitts on a large cooking pot, perhaps stolen from the nearby chateaus... You, Shuckle, Lemon and Terri take an uneasy pew and with a howl the Bewear rounds up the rest of its friends, a , and appearing from the surrounding thickets.

You are the main guests at a Teddy Bear’s Picnic! The ingredients Bewear has foraged look less than appetising, perhaps you could spruce them up with some cooking. Choose ingredients to make curry, using the help of your teammates to build a fire, fan the flames and stir the pot! Don’t forget to finish with a secret, special ingredient…

The Cutiefly went in with no hassle at all. PJ blushed. He'd make sure he did right by his new buggy friend. "I think I'll name you Cupid." he said to the ball. He held out the ball "I caught a Cutiefly!" he shouted, gleeful, half-jumping.

The Bewear seemed urgent, however, so PJ ran after him. Lemon was able to keep up fairly well, but Terri trailed behind a little. Still, with the assistance of the Watchog's glowing tail, she was able to keep sight and arrive at the stump the Bewear had been taking them to only just behind them. He was setting up what looked like a camp for cooking. He howled, and out from the thickets, a Teddiursa, a Cubchoo, and a Pancham gathered with them as well. ADORABLE!

"Look at all the cute little bears!" He squealed. Then, he noted the ingredients they had assembled and the set up pot. "It looks like a curry camp setup! That's so awesome! I've heard that making curry with friends makes everyone stronger and happier and creates a special lifelong bond. Thank you so much for letting us join in!" He bowed lightly, grinning dopily.

"Well, I like my curry sweet and spicy, so I think I'll contribute these." PJ said thoughtfully, pulling out [1 2 3-4] Babiri Berries, 1 Watmel Berry, and two especially rare berries, a Custap [1/2] and an Enigma. "But I also need to find a special ingredient..." he mused as he rummaged through his bag. "We've got something meaty, something creamy, some nice noodles... what about something neutral to tie it all together?" He pulled out a Gold Pokeblock [3/3]. "This should work!"

He threw Cupid's ball, sending the newly caught Cutiefly back out. "You won't want to miss this, Cupid! And we'll need your help to cook this tasty meal, too! Lemon, use you Hyper Fang to gather some dry wood and I'll help get it under the pot. I'll add my Berries, and you bears can add your ingredients. Then, Terri, use a Thunderbolt to strike a flame. You'll be up again after that, Lemon, and I want you use Psysplit and have you and your copies keep the flame balance right with your tails." He turned to his newest Pokemon. "Cupid, your job's super important. I want you to use Fairy Wind to keep the curry moving. Terri will use Play Nice to keep your spinning on track. I'll finish with the special Pokeblock."

He looked around at the gathered Pokemon. "Do we have a plan?"

Meetan-

The Combee take notice of you as soon as you enter the meadow, wary of your presence. Nina seems happy to be near all of the flowers, but she too could sense the tense situation at hand. The Combee weren't budging on this, and the Vespiquen was starting to get annoyed. She started buzzing rapidly as she reached towards the red gem on her forehead. Channeling her power, she summons up red shards around her and sends them flying towards the Combee. They cry out in pain as the Power Gem barrels into them, with one of the Combee being knocked out by the attack.

With one of their own falling, the rest of the patrol let out a giant screech. All of the Combee in the meadow look towards the patrol group, and start swarming. Multitudes of Combee from all around head towards the group until they were a giant mass. Then they started to stack, and combine, and seemingly multiply as well. The entire hive was out here at this point, forming a barrier with their bodies to help protect their queen.

The rival Vespiquen was getting mad about this, and fired off multitudes of Power Gems at the wall. Every time she made a hole, the swarm refilled it. She wasn't breaking through, and she was getting mad. She then let out a screech of her own. Suddenly, a massive swarm of Combee descend onto the area. The Vespiquen laughs as her minions come to her, feeling confident her own hive could claim the one here.

"Uh- Well... I think that's yer answer..." Isaac muttered towards you before retreating towards a tree. You'll need to protect the hive if you want to get the honey, after all.

You then see a massive, shadowy figure appear before the Vespiquen. It was a black and yellow Pokemon whose body seemed to mostly be a stinger. From the looks of it, it was a Mega Beedrill, and it was ready to serve its queen. Seeing the four of your Pokemon with you, you knew you had enough with you to power through this onslaught!

What do you do?
