Being perfectly honest, if the one before them now wasn't roughly the size of a small building, Keith might not have been too terribly worried going into this. Castform was hardly reputed as the strongest Pokémon, and not without reason, but all the same, Keith knew better than to underestimate the opponent he was up against here. Castform might not typically be powerhouses, but there were always exceptions to the rule, and the man who had trained Hermione the Weedle was more qualified to say this than most. Besides, if there was one area where Castform objectively excelled, it was in their moves. Fire, Electric, Ice, Water, a Flying move or two, the odd Ghost move, and that was all just what Keith could think of off the top of his head, not even taking into account the insanity that could ensue with Forecast- oh, yes, that was another of Castform's strengths; not just changing the weather, but adapting to said changes by way of different forms. He'd be a fool to think he'd be up against a simple Normal-type the whole time. They were up against a nigh-unpredictable enemy here, with more than its fair share of options. A truly safe option for this didn't seem to exist.

...well, OK, there was the fairly obvious solution of bringing a Pokémon with Cloud Nine to nullify the weather shenanigans, but where was the fun in that?

"Well, looks like it's showtime," Meowth remarked, looking around at the other gathered Trainers and their various Pokémon; George was to be battling alongside a Torracat, a Minccino, and a Drapion (the last of which Keith recognized as having formerly belonged to the late Alex Blackhall). "Ya tink George's got it in her?" Meowth asked Keith, snapping him out of that train of thought before it could get too far.

"Naturally," Keith nodded. "Ain't that right, George?" he called out.

"Pyukuuu!" George responded once more, looking about as ready as one would reasonably expect a Pyukumuku to be able to look.

"George is sayin' she's got dis in da bag," Meowth translated.

"Then let's kick this off with the smart option," Keith stated. "George, use Splishy Splash!"

The pink spikes on George's back crackled with electricity, and she horked up that inner appendage once more, using it to jump. At the same time, a large wave rose up from seemingly nothing underneath the Pyukumuku. The appendage changed shape to resemble a surfboard, and it was with this George landed on, and began to ride, the wave. Moreover, the electricity spread from her back spikes to the wave itself, charging it with electricity as it went right for Castform. "PYUKUUUU... MUKUUUUUU!" George bellowed as the wave threatened to crash into the Castform. Keith grinned as he watched this taking place, knowing that not only would this be a strong starting move to hit Castform with, but the electricity infused in the attack could serve to paralyze it as well. A strong start indeed, and potentially stronger still if that paralysis could just kick in!

OOC: George used Splishy Splash (90 BP; 30% chance to paralyze the target).

Methinks it prudent to begin with a snarl (55 BP) to cushion impending strikes.

Dynamax Boss Castform
★★★★
Health Gauge: 87%
Shields Up: 0
Status: -1 Special Attack, Rain (4 Turns Remaining)

Attack 1: Max Geyser (140 BP)
Raves, Drapion: 274 HP
Rain has started to pour down! Castform's Forecast has changed its form
Attack 2: Weather Ball (100 BP)

Yuki, Mincinno: 224 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • Yuki, Mincinno: 224 HP
  • Danny, Torracat: 300 HP
  • MM, Pyukumuku: 300 HP
  • Raves, Drapion: 274 HP

The trainers try their best to chip away at the Castform and hinder it, but only the special attack drop from Snarl goes through. It then lets out a Max Geyser, nailing the Drapion and causing rain to pour down. With the torrential rain, the Castform then transforms into its Rainy Form, and shoots out a Weather Ball at the Mincinno, doing a good chunk. Dynamax energies then go towards the Torracat.
Dynamax Initiative:
Danny, Torracat

Keith would be lying if he said he hadn't expected it- this, the capability to change the weather and adapt accordingly, this was Castform's entire schtick, of course it was gonna go with this. He'd fully expected the first thing that that Castform did to be either Max Geyser, Max Flare, or Max Hailstorm, and sure enough, the Weather Pokémon did not disappoint. It was now raining, and more to the point, Castform had changed its appearance. Now, it looked like a gigantic raindrop atop a billowing storm cloud. But the appearance wasn't all that changed- no, Castform was now a Water-type instead of a Normal-type.

"Pyuku..." George murmured thoughtfully. She was beginning to see why Keith had gotten her in on this battle- he'd taught her a pretty decent variety of attacks, after all. And she thought she knew exactly what the move to make here was. "Kumuku?" she called, looking back at Keith, having horked up her fistlike appendage, which was currently crackling with electricity.

Keith, however, looked deep in thought. Doing the exact math wasn't quite his area of expertise, but he was fairly sure nonetheless that George's idea, which had also been his initial plan, might just not be quite the way to go. "No, George," Keith said at last, shaking his head. "I think the rain's something you can take advantage of here as well!"

"Pyuku!?" George responded in surprise. What Keith was getting at... surely it wouldn't work as well now that they were up against a Water-type?

Keith, however was grinning. "You can put more power behind your Water attacks than behind a Thunder Punch," he stated. "And the rain will only help even more. So I think that's the way to go on this one. You ready to go?"

"Pyu pyuuuu!" George responded affirmatively, morphing her horked-up appendage to resemble a surfboard, just as she'd done the last time, knowing good and well what Keith was about to command, having only just used the move moments ago.

"Then let's do this!" Keith grinned confidently, adjusting the brim of his Mega Hat. "George, use Splishy Splash once more!

Once again, the pink spikes on George's back crackled with electricity, and she used the inner appendage to jump. At the same time, another large wave rose up from seemingly nothing underneath the Pyukumuku. George landed on the surfboard-shaped appendage, and began to ride the wave. As with last time, the electricity spread from her back spikes to the wave itself, charging it with electricity as it went right for Castform. "PYUKUUUU... MUKUUUUUU!" George bellowed as the wave threatened to crash into the Castform. Keith grinned once more- he was pretty sure that even with Castform now resisting this, the rain was gonna make this move stronger than ever! The only way this would've been even better would've been if this move was both Water and Electric-type! Alas, that much was not to be, as much sense as it would have made, but right now, they would take what they could get.

OOC: George used Splishy Splash (90 BP; powered up by the rain; 30% chance to paralyze the target).

Dynamax Boss Castform
★★★★
Health Gauge: 75%
Shields Up: 0
Status: -1 Atk, -1 Special Attack, Hail (4 Turns Remaining)

Attack 1: Max Hailstorm (140 BP)
Raves, Drapion: 146 HP
Hail has stared pelting down! Castform's Forecast has changed its form
Attack 2: Blizzard (110 BP)

Yuki, Mincinno: 75 HP
Danny, Torracat: 170 HP
MM, Pyukumuku: 170 HP [Frozen]
Raves, Drapion: 0 HP [KO'd]
Raid Challengers:
  • Yuki, Mincinno: 50 HP
  • Danny, Torracat: 170 HP
  • MM, Pyukumuku: 170 HP [Frozen]
  • Raves, Drapion: 0 HP [KO'd, fully recovers in 1 round]

Now drenched in rain, the trainers re-adjust to fight the watery foe. Slamming it with attacks, the team bring it down but seem to just be shy of a bench mark. Castform, however, decides to instead bring out the hail, freezing its wet foes. The Max Hailstorm hits the Drapion heavily, and then it uses Blizzard to chip the entire team, get in more chip with hail, freezing the Pyukumuku and falling the Drapion all in one go.
Dynamax Initiative:
MM, Pyukumuku

"Huh," Keith remarked as the dust settled from the latest onslaught "I would have thought for sure that would have gotten it to put up that shield..." And yet, to his mild surprise, Castform had not yet erected that ever-infuriating barrier that would completely stave off damage until made to shatter. But it had to be close- that much, Keith was sure of.

Meanwhile, as Keith thought about this, Castform sprang into action. A powerful Max Hailstorm into the Drapion, a show of frigid force that chilled the air, turned pouring rain into stinging hail. And, once again, changed Castform's appearance, and more to the point, its type. Now it looked somewhere between a blast of frozen breath and an elaborate yet cute ice sculpture, and for certain it had the Ice type to match. And the icy craziness didn't stop there, either- in keeping with the theme, Castform then unleashed a powerful Blizzard! This hit all Pokémon present, and the aforementioned Drapion was knocked clean out. Keith could see that his Pyukumuku had escaped such a fate, but he wasn't too pleased about what fate had befallen George instead.

Keith was at a loss for words. The Sea Cucumber Pokémon was trapped in a block of solid ice. George was frozen solid. How often did that even happen from these kinds of attacks!? Glancing around, Keith's eyes fell upon Danny's Torracat. He opened his mouth, intent on asking Danny if he could hit George with a quick Ember, but before he could speak up, Torracat blasted Castform with the powerful Ember's Resonance attack. However, Jessica and her Minccino were quick to act with another move, one Keith hadn't seen coming, but he appreciated greatly; Sparkly Swirl. The move was a brilliant mixture of offense and healing potential, and as it struck a shield, it also freed George from her icy prison. "Pyu-u-u-u-u-u-u," shivered George. "Pyuuuu kuuuu!" she called over to the Minccino, giving a thumbs-up with her inner appendage.

"Heh, good to go, George?" Keith asked with a grin.

"Pyuuukumuku!" George responded in an upbeat tone, repeating the thunbs-up."

"Good," Keith nodded. He held up his right hand, in which George's Net Ball was clutched. And more to the point, this revealed the Dynamax Band he wore on that wrist. Which was currently aglow with Dynamax Energy. "Let's do this, then!"

"Pyu ku!" nodded George.

Keith held out the Net Ball and withdrew George. "The strange energy that courses through us both," he began, holding the ball out at arm's length. "Let us embrace it... harness it... use it to draw out our true power!" he declared as the Dynamax Energy worked its magic, enlarging the sphere until it looked like an Electrode-sized Premier Ball. "And now, George... let's DYNAMAX!!!" he bellowed, heaving the sphere into the air behind him.

The ball burst open in midair, whereupon George appeared, growing larger... and larger... and LARGER! The Pyukumuku now sat on the ground, not quite as large as one might expect a Dynamaxed Pokémon to be, but she still towered over all present with the obvious exception of the Castform. "PYUKUMUKUMUK!" George rumbled.

Keith grinned, glancing over at Castform. "USE! MAX!! FLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE!!!" he bellowed.

OOC: George Dynamaxed and used Max Flare (130 BP; Base move is Fire Punch (75 BP)).

Dynamax Boss Castform
★★★★
Health Gauge: 69%
Shields Up: 1
Status: -1 Atk, -1 Special Attack, Sun (4 Turns Remaining)
KOs: 2

Attack 1: Max Flare (140 BP)
Danny, Torracat: 75 HP
Sunlight has gotten harsh! Castform's Forecast has changed its form
Attack 2: Weather Ball (100 BP)

Danny, Torracat: 0 HP [KO'd]
Raid Challengers:
  • Yuki, Mincinno: 250 HP
  • Danny, Torracat: 0 HP [KO'd, recovers in 1 round]
  • MM, Pyukumuku: 284 HP [Dynamaxed, 2 Turns Remaining]
  • Raves, Drapion: 400 HP [Fully Recovered]

Freezing cold, the trainers try to warm themselves up and the Castform with TOrracat, while Drapion's trainer gives a cheering heal to the Mincinno. The chinchilla Pokemon is able to unfreeze the Pyukumuku with a Sparky Swirl, and the sea cucumber dynamaxes and uses a MAx Flare to break shields. Castform, taking a page out of the vegetable's book, uses a Max Flare of its own, creating blistering heat and hitting the Torracat. It then sends out a burning sun of a weather ball, felling its now fellow fire type with some huge luck. With two down and the first set of shiels barely done, the trainers need to be on their feet.
Dynamax Initiative:
MM, Pyukumuku

Everything was going well! Castform was slammed with a powerful move, finally forced to put up a barrier, and Keith and Jessica managed to make a sizable dent in said shield with their Pokémon. When all was said and done, however, Castform still had a bit of shield left in front of it. Keith frowned at this- he knew right away, he knew that an ordinary attack would be perfectly sufficient to take it out. A Max Move would be overkill. And while he was normally of the opinion that there was no kill like overkill... this was another situation altogether. Max Moves were a precious resource in these raid battles- Dynamaxing was temporary. You had time for three Max Moves at the, well, max. Every single one of them had to count. And as though to drive this point home, Castform landed yet another knockout blow, this time taking out the Torracat- most insultingly, with a series of Fire moves. A Max Flare, bringing out the sunlight in rare form, and also altering Castform's own form. And following that, a Weather Ball, which, due to the aforementioned bright sunlight, was also a Fire move. "Hoo, boy," Keith exhaled nervously. He'd been quite right to not take this thing lightly- Castform was ripping them to pieces so far!

Keith glanced around, sizing up the situation. Torracat was down, but its Trainer wasn't doing anything. Keith looked expectantly at him, but the Trainer was doing nothing despite having the perfect opportunity to shatter that shield once and for all. And they couldn't wait forever, so the Drapion blasted away the remnants of the shield with a Dark Pulse. This was Keith's time to act! He opened his mouth, fully prepared to call for a Max Geyser, but he stopped to think instead. Taking advantage of Castform's special Ability, turning that around on it, that was all well and good, but where was it gonna get them if it could just keep hammering away at them and taking them out with absurd ease? No... this called for a more tactical approach. After all, as I said earlier, you can't afford to waste Max Moves. Best to make the most of them, and Keith figured he knew exactly how to do that. "George, I'm gonna have to ask you to trust me on what I'm about to say," he called up to his gigantic Pyukumuku, turning to face her briefly. It truly felt surreal- George was normally extremely small, so to see the Sea Cucumber Pokémon towering over them all, it wasn't a sight one saw very often.

"PYUUUUUUKUUUUU!" thundered George, giving a gargantuan thumbs-up with her horked-up inner appendage. She knew better than to doubt Keith's orders- he'd more than proven himself as a capable Trainer to her by this point, and whatever this order ended up being, she knew it'd have a reason to it. Always a method to Keith Masters's madness.

Keith nodded and grinned, before turning back to Castform, gesturing perhaps a little too dramatically in its direction. Then USE! MAX!! FLUTTERBYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!" he bellowed.

OOC: George used Max Flutterby (120 BP; base move is Skitter Smack (70 BP)).

  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $150 may be collected for responses of 150 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Thursday, August 19th to place your order.

    DQ Warning: Danny (1)

Max Flutterby was the Bug-type Max Move. Castform was currently in its one and only form that actively resisted Bug moves. On the surface, Keith's little maneuver seemed pretty counterproductive. Not only wasting a turn blasting a Fire-type with a Bug move, but wasting a Max Move to do this? It seemed downright insane. Unthinkable. Until, that is, you looked a little closer at it all. For you see, when it comes to Max Moves, the massive damage is only the half of it. The other half of the sheer deliciousness that is Max Moves comes in the form of their added effects, affecting entire sides of the battle, guaranteed to happen upon landing, and more to the point, every bit as worthy of consideration as the basic type matchups. And that was where the brilliance of Keith's plan truly lay- that Max Flutterby wasn't meant as an assault on Castform's hit points, so much as on its Special Attack. After all, everything Castform had been throwing at them thus far had been, in fact, special attacks of varying types and strengths. Well, OK, maybe not the Max Hailstorm, Keith reasoned, that could possibly have had Avalanche as the base move, but no, that aside, all the Max moves had to be special attacks, Castform didn't even learn any physical Fire or Water attacks!

And then came Castform's turn to act, and a further aspect of the brilliance of the plan came to light. What does a raid boss do when too many negative effects are being piled onto it? Why, the infamous shockwave, of course. Clears out all stat changes, removes the effects of opponents' Abilities, gets rid of all sorts of irritating effects that could burden a raid boss so. But, said shockwave was truly a double-edged sword, for every time a raid boss went for that, it did so at the cost of a chance to attack. And with Pokémon dropping left and right in this, and the growing intensity of the storm above, Keith knew, and knew well, they couldn't afford to see much more in the way of knockouts. So, if this weakened Castform moving forward? Excellent! If this made it waste its valuable time on that shockwave? Still pretty good! And here and now, the latter proved to be the case. The shockwave washed over all present. Stat changes were reset, effects were dissipated, and most importantly, time was wasted.

Alas, this did not solve all of their problems. Castform might have only left itself time to use one more move, but it didn't squander that time by any means, launching a putridly strong Max Flare, intensified by the sun's rays, that blasted the poor Minccino straight into unconsciousness. Keith's point about the building number of knockouts was being driven home quite nicely as the storm above intensified yet again. Somehow Keith knew- just one more KO, and it was game over.

"PYUKUUUU..." George rumbled worriedly, eyeing the storm above.

Keith nodded in agreement- this wasn't good. "OK... right now, let's do something about the weather," he stated. "Let's turn its own powers against it, George!" And he took a deep breath and bellowed his orders yet again. "USE! MAX!! GEYSERRRRRRR!!!"

OOC: George used Max Geyser (130 BP; base move is Splishy Splash (90 BP)).

Dynamax Boss Castform
★★★★
Health Gauge: 36%
Shields Up: 3
Status: Sun (4 Turns Remaining)
KOs: 3

Attack 1: Max Flare (110 BP)
Danny, Torracat: 259 HP
Attack 2: Weather Ball (100 BP)

Danny, Torracat: 113 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • Yuki, Mincinno: 400 HP [Fully Recovered]
  • MM, Pyukumuku: 300 HP
  • Raves, Drapion: 400 HP

The pickle tries to play weather wars with Castform. That doesn't work, as Castform goes back to its preferred sun. If it means not taking much from the Pickle, it'll take it. THe raiders manage to draw out shields, and the TOrracat sits there as a meatshield eating Fire-type attacks, before it and its trainer disappears.
Dynamax Initiative: Expired]
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
  • You have until Sunday, August 22nd to place your order.

    Disqualified: Danny
