With the sight of the enormous Omastar shocking the both of you to the core, your immediate responses are to usher in your active Pokémon to a distance away from the coast for safety. Zak, having decided immediately on a valiant rescue attempt, deploys Slowking aside Luxio and issues orders -- Wes, while not so enthusiastic to involve his team in what is clearly a dangerous situation, nonetheless substitutes Chama for his stronger operatives and gives them commands as well. While the gigantic ferocious fossil unnerves your motley crew of four quite the bit, they're determined to carry out the endeavour as ordered. As the strongest of the selection, Brawly the Totodile is first to attack, sending his Water Gun shooting over the lake to strike Omastar on its shell while Luxio and Honii the Teddiursa initiate their own moves; Luxio gathering the air's static Charge while Honii focuses energy into his muscles in attempt to Bulk Up their girth. The spray of water hits the offending giant Spiral on its head, and though at the distance and trajectory it's not much more than a sprinkle it surprises Omastar enough to cause it to choke on its grisly meal from the interruption. Taking this chance, Luxio shoots a Thunderbolt from the tip of its tail while Honii lobs a Seed Bomb, the electric blast striking Omastar on its fleshy left and the botanic grenade smacking it between the eyes. While the attacks don't seem to leave much of a mark, their naturally crippingly effects on Omastar's elemental affinity at such critical bits of its anatomy have the monstrous ammonite roaring in fury. Reflexively it flails about in the water, churning up more violent froth from the pain in its ocular region, and in so doing its grip on some of the Pokémon start to loosen. Aerodactyl manages to wrestle itself out of its grip, flying away whilst still screaming in fright, and Poliwhirl successfully squirms through thanks to its slimy emissions lubricating its escape.

Amidst this wild chaos, Slowking finally gets his act together, blowing a light Yawn towards the struggling Omastar, but before the peculiar pink bubbles can leave their mark the erratic spray around Omastar detonates them in a series of splashes. Brawly quickly carries onto his next command, this time firing another blast of water that is more focused and larger in magnitude, blasting Omastar at the spike above its eyes with his Hydro Pump. Having taken another powerful blast to its face region, Omastar is pushed back slightly from the attack, and this further surprise completely weakens the grip the Spiral had on its prey. Shelgon, Tangela and Phanpy are all sent flying from the beast's random flailing, still yelling in sheer terror, and even as Slowking shoots his Ice Beam in his attempt to freeze Omastar in place you can only watch with hearts in mouths, fearful for the fate of the three victims out of the frying pan and into the fire. Shelgon is thrown unceremoniously onto the coast, its shell cushioning most of the damage, while Tangela manages to grip onto the waterfall's cliff by extending a multitude of vines, but Phanpy isn't as lucky as it falls into the waters two feet deep some metres away from you. Concern for Phanpy surges in you, but there are other problems to worry about; while Slowking's Ice Beam did manage to catch Omastar at its mouth and freeze its fangs in place, it has recovered from its pained parading and is now looking more than furiously at you. Blood trickles from the small wound that Honii inflicted between its eyes, worsened by the berserk phase Omastar was in, and it seems to have set sights on the ones who caused it to lose its first meal. Without warning the ice on its mouth breaks free, and to your horror Omastar's fangs open up to fire a Bubblebeam, and while normally the attack wouldn't cause significant worry Omastar's size makes each sphere of watery film easily as big as one of you. Reflex kicks in at this point as the huge aquatic horde comes thundering over, and all of you desperately dive to the sides to avoid getting hit. What feels like a swimming pool's worth of liquid explodes all around you, Omastar's rage fuelling the attack, tossing you outwards from where you once stood. By the time the two of you find your wind back, you discover your Pokémon lying about sprawled, having taken considerable damage from the water blast. Slowking seems to have come of worst of all, lying belly-up and unconscious furthest away, his weak disposition having left him helpless against Omastar's onslaught and in no shape to continue. Luxio and Honii are still awake, but even they don't look like they can take another similar hit. Brawly, in the meantime, runs amongst his teammates, concern distinct in his eye when Omastar releases the loudest screech yet, sending the five of you hitting the mud, crouching and shielding your ears. Looking up in horror, you stare as Omastar raises its tentacles, ready to begin its next move...

"Titus, REFLECT!" A familiar voice cries out, and before you know it Sheena and Titus materialise into view above you, the Mechadabra forming a protective energy rectangle just as its teleportation sequence finishes. The defensive manouvre proves timely as Omastar swings its minor tendrils down, the attempt at a Constrict smashing against Titus' barrier, barely managing to hold as both android and scientist are tossed into the bushes from the force. Some struggling later, both Sheena and Titus emerge covered in greens and dirt, and Sheena with her glasses askew.

"I was afraid this would happen," she breathes heavily, readjusting her spectacles as she glares at the Omastar. "I was afraid one of them would show up..." Gazing around, she notices your bewildered looks and the general state of your teams. "I'll have to fill you guys in on what's going on," she addresses you as you stand up, still staring at her in confusion, "but we'll have to talk later -- otherwise we're all done for!" Taking a few steps forward with Titus following, Sheena scans the surroundings for a quick note of the situation before crying out.

"Oh, no!" she points, and with a sickening jolt you look to where the young scientist lady is focusing her attention. The Phanpy dropped in the water is still struggling with no way of reaching the shore on its own, and it looks as though it would surely drown if left there much longer. Your eyes look between the two grim scenarios at hand -- the drowning Phanpy, and the killer Omastar.

"Blast it..." curses Sheena. "We could focus our efforts on the Omastar and take it down first... but that Phanpy wouldn't survive by then! Maybe two of us could help buy some time by disabling the Omastar while the last person rescues the Phanpy by any means necessary..."

At this, Sheena looks imploringly at the two of you. Clearly she's not in the mental state to make the decision, worrying over the welfare of both you and the Phanpy; you can either risk your safety by rescuing the Phanpy, or stay on the shore and condemn the young Ground-type to a watery grave. What will it be?

"Is that so?" Marge asks, and her tone of wonderment sends a jolt of fear up your spine. "So you're telling me that you're not really here for the gathering this afternoon? That... you didn't really have the intention to join Team Magma?" The content of her questioning immediately sparks of signals of warning in your mind. Worriment thunders in your brain as you ask yourself if you've seriously blown it, and being stuck in a labyrinth den of villiains you start fearing for your life.

"That's... really deep." Her response, which comes a few moments later, is quite the surprise to you considering your body nearly went crazy buzzing with fear of what might have happened. "It kinda reminds me of how I came to join Team Magma, now that I think of it -- I used to be a coordinator in Contests years ago, before I slowly lost interest. Then Team Magma came along, recognised my abilities with fiery displays, and offered me a position. They thought I would be useful during their slash-and-burn missions, and since I got to blow up stuff instead of simply playing with fire, I joined in. I found that I was able to develop myself further in abilities and appreciate that, though to be honest most people here don't think that far. Mitch is amazingly one of the more intelligent ones; the grunts as a general rule don't even have two brain cells to rub together," she jokes. "They do have a one-track mind that makes them do whatever their superior tell them, though; handy enough for the Leader to pursue his goal of expanding the land surface. The grunts are just happy enough to get to blow up stuff without restraint."

Having expected a horde of bandits chasing after you, you certainly don't expect this second bombshell. A flurry of new thoughts jostle about in your mind; brief comfort that Marge is not only buying your story but also somewhat sympathetic and understanding to your genuine situation, and unease at the idea of being around such potentially violent company. And what of these "slash-and-burn missions", and the "goal of expanding the land surface"? Marge's words only spring up questions as others are answered, and while you're pondering this you slowly notice that the cave is getting brighter as you walk on, lined by twin rows of double-headed torches bearing resemblance to the heads of Slugma.

"Here we are," Marge says, just as the two of you reach a larger chamber, with a series of similarly illuminated caverns leading away on the other side. The Magma symbol, displayed on a regal-looking but tattered standard, stands in the centre of the room. "This is the Central Junction that links all other facilities of Team Magma's base; the Main Hall, the Resource Repository, the Training Grounds, the Accomodation Sector and the Conference Rooms, to list some. Though those would be only the main areas; the passageways usually extend beyond those places towards restricted regions like the Leader's Quarters, and they're often worked on further into the Volcano. Matter of fact, the construction-demolition team's been working on another passage from the back of the Main Hall itself for some reason, but it'll probably have something to do with the recruitment initiation."

"Well, kid, this is where I leave you. I'll need to get back to that lunkhead before he forgets to warm himself by the fire." She snickers at this, and you remember she's referring to Mitch. "There's still a couple of hours before the first ceremony begins in the Main Hall, the only thing through the middle passage -- I'm afraid you won't have the clearance to go anywhere else, but considering your inexperience it's probably a good thing. I've heard of instances where wandering recruits got lost in the labyrinth after being one bit too curious; the luckier ones were half-starved and stark raving from the lack of food and water when we found them." As you shudder involuntarily from the grisly connotations of Marge's last remark, you note that she's turned to face you this time, and she's smiling with the same friendly tone you had imagined in the darkness earlier as the Slugma lights flicker off her smooth complexion. Are you imagining it, or is that kind affection you see in her eyes?

"Whichever path you take, kid, will be important. Maybe you had a link to this place once, or to Team Magma, but... even if you don't discover any clues as to who you are, I hope you do find your one true calling," says Marge, once again in her softer, sisterly voice. "I know I managed to."

Leaving you with those words, Marge finally turns and heads back into the gradual darkness towards the hideout entrance, with you looking behind still in wonder at what she said. Eventually, though, you do turn back to face the seven passages leading deeper into the base. Heading to the Main Hall seems the best plan of action, but there's nothing stopping you from doing a little chancy exploration of your own, and you might find out more of the truth behind the questions of your mind, or at least some valuable information or resources... so long as you don't get caught or lost.

What will you choose?

As Sandshrew continues looking on in shock, its confidence having taken a major blow, Mario nods at your commands and continues his pursuit of the battle. Generating a series of energy pins, Mario grits his teeth as his ghostly powers stick the needles through his shroudlike form, though his efforts are soon apparent as Sandshrew shrieks in sudden pain -- a nasty violet aura surrounds the little mouse, the Curse working its magic on it as the hex saps away its health for the sacrifice Mario put in. As the recurring spell fades out for the time being, Sandshrew manages to pick itself up, still squeaking in intimidation. The two of you are abruptly surprised, then, when Sandshrew raises its claw again, glowing with energy, and lunges for a second slashing movement, this time raking across Mario's frame and knocking him down. For a moment you wonder if Mario's immunity to Scratch has magically disappeared, but a quick consultation of the PokéDex determines the attack to Metal Claw.

Meanwhile, angered and annoyed by Sandshrew's continued resilience and stubborness, Mario charges back at the rodent, slamming into Sandshrew with a Knock Off manouvre. As it squeaks, you notice a circular, patterned disc fly out from where Sandshrew stood. How Sandshrew had hid the item from your view earlier, you don't have much of an idea, but as you walk forward to inspect the mysterious object Sandshrew squeals in fright, quickly scrambling over to the trinket and scooping up in its claws before performing another Defence Curl with the coinlike item safely tucked away, leaving you and Mario looking on in confusion. Several things are somewhat apparent to you by this point: this Sandshrew doesn't seem to be any ordinary wild Sandshrew, and if that follows, whoever holds possession of Sandshrew might not be far away. Mario, though, is still looking in a roughly better condition than Sandshrew; the effects of Curse maintaining a slight lead even after the damaging prerequesites to put Curse in place. It's unclear if Sandshrew still wishes to continue battling, but it seems likely that this encounter has more to it than meets the eye...

"Lombre, Castform, Cacturne, Meowth..." Labrazahm repeats after you as he keys in your Pokémon selections. "While I wouldn't advise bringing in Grass-types in due to their immense discomfort towards volcanic regions, I suppose you wouldn't make your decisions lightly, and I respect your judgement." A moment's pause as the Chairman conferences on his computer, leaving you waiting for a while before he continues. "I've informed the military research department and deployment sector about you, and they're fixing up the necessary technology we'll be supplying you with. Kenon will escort you to the relevant levels at once to see you kitted out before we operate a paradrop near Mount Eris; I've transmitted the appropriated information to his VolcaniPDA so he'll know what to do. There's not a moment to lose." Nodding your agreement, you politely take your leave, standing up and heading for the door.

"Oh, Miss Kami!" At Labrazahm's call, you turn around to face the Chairman for a last time before leaving.

"Be careful out there," he warns. "This will be unlike anything, I trust, you've ever faced before. You have my best wishes, Miss Kami."

A lump of fear clutching at your voicebox, you can only nod slightly -- though it seems more of a jitter than a nod -- and leave from the door.

***

An equally long and sophisticated procedure later, with Kenon performing all the necessary access commands, you find yourself in a laboratory that you can only identify as the military research department, judging by the amount of laser-based and explosive-based weaponry you see through the thick windows of fiberglass fixed in the soundproof walls of the passageway you find yourself in. At the end of the passage before it breaks into a T-junction stands a woman scientist dressed in similar garb to Kenon, her blonde hair tied in a neat ponytail.

"Miss Kami, I presume? I am the Public Relations Scientist of this department, Lila Sanary," she greets, just as clinical as the elevator and Chairman's receptionist but still with some life in her voice. "I'll be briefing you on the technology you and your Pokémon will be equipped with for your mission. Kenon, please remain here while I bring Miss Kami in."

Once again being left behind from non-clearance, Kenon waves encouragingly at you as Lila leads you into the left route. "Along this route, Miss Kami, I'll be explaining the various gadgets you will be supplied with, as well as a run-through of all capabilities, in addition to some custom ones the Chairman has requested -- from what he's told us, you'll be in for quite a time, so I'll be passing you the best we can afford at the moment.

"Here we're fixing up the Anti-Kelvin Suits that you and your Pokémon will be wearing. From the information we retrieved from your PokéDex, we've obtained the height and weight measurements of the five of you, and they should be ready once this briefing is over for you to try them out," says Lila as the two of you pass by an immense testing room to the left, the door labelled "Uniform Design and Testing". "This is where we create uniforms for the police, military, fire brigade and anyone else who often deals with environments where the risk of heat injury is extremely high; the Anti-Kelvin Suits are what we standardly supply the local civil defence forces with in event of volcanic disasters. They also come with GPS tracking system links so your situation and status can be monitored. As I believe Chairman Labrazahm has told you, the A.K.S. are also designed for Pokémon to allow them to fully protect their Trainers by granting them full command of their attacks even when suited up, but the Chairman has also requested that we supply you with some extras -- which you can see through the window on your right."

Looking where Lila has indicated, you see another similarly designed laboratory, this one labelled "Hand-to-hand Weaponry". "We'll be providing you with the Convectionator Gloves to be fitted on your own suit, which will allow you to absorb and redirect fire and heat away from you, in amounts comparable to a Pokémon's Flamethrower attack. Your Pokémon will also be equipped with the Hidden Ace Laser Handhelds, fitted on the back of your Pokémon's hand regions -- they will allow your Pokémon to fire a laser beam by tapping into their naturally hidden powers, granting them the move Hidden Power even if they don't normally know the move. The HAL Handhelds will also give those Hidden Power attacks the accuracy of Aerial Ace -- hence the name -- but I must caution you that the Handhelds can only fire three rounds at the very most before overheating due to the intense nanocircuitry. Further usage risks explosions that will likely compromise the A.K.S. your Pokémon will be wearing."

"And lastly, the Incendiary Department will be issuing you with this." Pausing to stand next to what looks like a dumb waiter, Lila punches in a code into the complicated number panel nearby in a movement impossible for you to follow. Eventually, you hear a loud whirr and clank before the dumb waiter opens up, allowing Lila to retrieve the item inside.

"This is a Flash Fire Flashbomb," she says, bringing up said item for you to see: a small spherical object with a flame design and panels that can open up. "It's a small grenade designed to inhibit any living fiery threat by basing itself on the concept of the Flash Fire ability -- when attached to a Pokémon or anything that poses a heat-based danger, it senses the immense heat and biology and deploys an array of inhibition cords to immobilise the target and absorb their heat. The Chairman has requested that I inform you to only use this on the 'target' once it has been adequately subdued -- since the Triple-F won't work twice after it becomes activated, and we don't have a lot of these.

"Well, here we are at the Dressing Rooms," she says, and present you to said labelled door. "Our personnel will be aiding you with using the suits and technology, and once you've got a good feel of it I'll escort you back to Kenon so you can be deployed."

***

An unknown amount of time passes since you enter the Dressing Rooms, and you walk out decked in your A.K.S. with your similarly dressed team. You've had a full run of how the suits work and are confident of using them, though the looming pyrokinetic threat still weighs heavily on your mind. Lila brings you back to where Kenon is, and the younger scientist leads you towards the elevator for your final destination in the Skyscraper, but not before Lila wishes you the best of luck with a small smile.

The deployment sector turns out to be the roof, where a helicopter is already ready and waiting, and with a brief rundown of the Selfdestructing Parachute you're off in the air with Kenon and the air crew, your heart thumping in your mouth.

"We're nearing the dropoff point -- it'll be at the foothills, where the temperatures will start to rise intensely," calls Kenon above the helicopter's propellers. "Call back your team, Miss Kami -- you can deploy them once you've reached ground level, and we can't provide the chutes for 'em." You nod, retrieving your team of four into their PokéBalls, clutching tightly at the Parachute's pack on your shoulders.

"Here we are, Miss Kami!" Kenon yells as the door slides open, amplifying the noise from the chopper. "Good luck on your mission!"

Hesitating a while, you flash what you hope is a confident grin at Kenon before jumping from the aerial vehicle, pressing a button at the centre of your stomach where the Parachute Pack straps are joined. Ten metres into your drop the Parachutes opens with a floomp! noise, and you jolt from the force of air caught in the chute. Slowly you make your way down, while gazing at Mount Eris in all its furious volcanic glory. Blasts of fire and smoke burst from its bumpy surface every now and then, and you gulp nervously -- searching the volcano for your target and apprehending it will certainly be no walk in the park, even with all your tech.

Eventually, though, you do hit ground level, the parachute fraying into millions of tiny fibres as its altimeter senses you reaching your destination, blowing off in the wind. Looking up at the mountain, you have two immediate decisions -- either search the foot of the volcano where you stand, or immediately move on to higher ground for your search. Which will it be?

Clearly she's not in the mental state to make the decision, worrying over the welfare of both you and the Phanpy; you can either risk your safety by rescuing the Phanpy, or stay on the shore and condemn the young Ground-type to a watery grave. What will it be?

Wes watched intently as Zac’s and his own Pokémon bombarded Omastar with their flurry of bolts, blasts and explosions. As he’d predicted, their team’s attacks were only minor setbacks to the giant Anomite. Roaring in pain however, the attacks did make for a timely escape for the native Pokémon that’d fallen victim to the Sea Monster’s hefty tentacles. This gave the trainer some hope, perhaps they could defeat this beast, it’d just take more offense. Nevertheless, Wes was quick to notice a meager Phanpy – hanging on for dear life in the depths of the water. The helpless elephant was certain to perish if Wes and Zac didn’t act. Although with Omastar in close proximity to it, the rescue of Phanpy wouldn’t be an easy one.

The colossal fossil screeched madly, interrupting the boy’s chain of thought. Splashing irately, Omastar set its eyes directly at them. Such a giant Pokémon evoked great fear into Wes; he’d never been in so much danger. He stumbled back slightly as the sea monster released a carpet bomb of bubbles, each bubble large enough to outsize one of them! The young trainer and his friend hesitantly dived away from the attack, the power of which could have killed either of them. Peering back over to the water-side, Wes was shocked to notice Honii was barely conscious. Brawly however, is the only one of them still standing. He watched intently as the small croc breathed heavily from taking such an onslaught. Suddenly, the small Totodile starting glowing a blinding white, his features enlarging and becoming more defined. What emerged from the bright light was a brazened brute – Totodile had evolved into Crocanaw! The adolescent croc bellowed loudly as it eyed up its opponent, Wes was both shocked and content at Brawly’s change in physique. Still, the giant snail-Pokémon released another ear-splitting screech, clearly prepared to finish its foes off.

“Titus! REFLECT!” shouted a voice from behind, the attractive scientist and her mechanical companion had returned! In her valiant attempts to fend off the Omastar, she was quick to be sent back into the shrubbery behind them. Wes gulped nervously, even the authorities couldn’t handle the colossal sea beast. She approached the six of them whilst recovering from her plummet. “I was afraid one of them would show up…” Wes was bewildered at what one of them exactly was. Before she has time to explain, she is quick to notice the sinking Phanpy. They had to focus their attention on Omanite, but the baby elephant stood no chance of survival on its own. Wes had to help, with Zac being a much more experienced trainer, the boy determined he should help the Phanpy.

“Brawly!” Wes shouted to his newly evolved Crocanaw, “I need you to save that poor Phanpy. Try not to bring much attention to yourself, and if we fall short of that, fend off the Sea Beast with Iron Tail!” Upon finishing his sentence, Crocanaw nodded and swiftly dived into the depths. Wes then turned his attention back to Zac and Sheena, both of whom where also giving their orders. Looked down at the bear, he was gritting his teeth as he bore what pain he’d taken. “I know you can go another round Honii, so it’s important you give it all you’ve got. Full power Seed Bomb!” Wes bit his lip anxiously, he was certainly taking a risk sending Brawly into the depths – hopefully Honii and the rest of their Pokémon would manage to keep Omastar busy.

The little sand mouse, despite being a bit behind, still tried to appear intimidating with its sharp claws. "You think you're so scary, huh?" Tyrant thought in his head, planning ahead for future rounds. Mario then suddenly grits his teeth together, as the needles of his Curse pin inside him. "Hang in there Mario!" Tyrant calls out, hoping that this move would work. A smirk then appeared on the trainer's face as the Sandshrew cried out in pain, signaling that the Ghost energy had seeped into Sandshrew permanently. The mouse got up then pulsed energy into his claws. "A Scratch? That stupid shrew." Tyrant thought in his head, smiling even more. The mouse traveled towards Mario and raked across his body, doing some damage. "What?!" Tyrant said out loud. He quickly whipped out his Pokedex to see what was really doing on. With further inspection, the Scratch attack seemed to have been a Metal Claw. "So, this is no ordinary Sandshrew. We'll have to try our hardest out there." Tyrant remarked, the smile faded away. Mario continued on with a Knock Off. Mario slammed into Sandshrew with a tackle, but at the same type, a small disc came flying out of Sandshrew's....well, Tyrant didn't know where. However, the peculiar item interested Tyrant, so he walked towards it to pick it up. However, the Sandshrew quickly dashed in and grabbed the item, keeping the coin-like item once more. "This is definitely not just your average Sandshrew." Tyrant said quietly. The mouse then curled up defensively once more to end that round.

"I'm beginning to think that this is not a wild Sandshrew, but a trainer's." Tyrant said to Mario. "But, it's still nothing we can't handle! Mario, another Night Shade, then when it uncurls, slam into the little mouse with a Knock Off once more!" Tyrant said, ready to dash in and catch the item before the Sandshrew could.

Zak looked on as the heated battle began to unfold and his and Wes' pokémon seemed to be no match for the gigantic fossilized beast. Thinking on his feet, Zak decided this wasn't the best time to be using fairly new, weaker pokémon and decided on a plan. He also had a Venusaur and a Blaziken in his arsenal, both with far more experience than Slowking and Luxio, so he began to put his plan into action.

As Zak began to think this over, the Omastar began to attack. The attack seemed unlike any other, since it was coming from such an over-sized pokémon. Though it was bubblebeam, they were the size of Wes and Zak combined. Seeing this, Zak began to panic, but it was far too late. The bubbles began crashing into the pokémon, sending them flying. Slowking fainting and Luxio becoming very weak, Zak decided that he needed to act as fast as he could.

"Alright, Luxio, Slowking, you made a valiant effort. Seems that I underestimated this pokémon though, guys, so you'd better return to your pokéballs. Time for the big guns..." Zak smiled at the pokémon kindly, he was concerned for their welfare in such an area and knew he would need his veteran pokémon to defend him from this and future imminent threats. He knew Slowking was a bad choice from the word go, he just had too much faith in his pokémon at times, it seemed.

Once he returned the pokémon, the Omastar seemed to be readying another attack. This time it seems to be utilizing it's tendrils. Suddenly, out of nowhere, both Sheena and one of her Mechadabras, Titus, materialize in front of the group and a barrier is formed. Though this protects the group to an extent, it sends both the scientest and her mecha into the bushes nearby.

"Alright Sheena! You got here in the nick of time it seems..." Zak exclaimed, a sense of relief overtaking his whole system, but he knew they definitely weren't safe. As the attack were thwarted by the telekinetic barrier, Zak noticed something in the water. It was a young Phanpy, flailing about. Though it had been released from the grip of the ammonite, it was now drowning in the water nearby.

"This is it, your time to shine, Kerry!" Zak clawed at the pokéballs on his belt, settling on the one he knew contained his starter pokémon, once a Bulbasaur, now a powerful Venusaur with quite a few strong attacks. As Zak said this, the large toad-like pokémon with a beautiful flower on it's back appeared in a flash of light. Shaking her head from side to side, she looked to Zak as if to say where am I?

"Kerry, now, look in the water over there, see the Phanpy? Well, we've gotta save the poor little blighter from this Omastar. I wont be able to live with myself if we don't end up helping it, it's only a baby..." Zak's face dropped, he was overthinking the situation too much, what if the Phanpy drowned? What if the Omastar ate more pokémon? He had a lot on his plate at this moment, the only thing slightly relieving him being the fact he wasn't alone.

"Okay then, let's go, Kerry, you're a lot better matched to deal with this pokémon, lets open this up with a sunny day then follow that up with a powerful solarbeam since the sun's rays will mean you don't have to charge up" Zak nodded slightly as he spoke his orders, this could work, he just had to wait and see the outcome.

Watching on as the Venusaur began to position herself, Zak could only pray things worked out the way he and Wes had planned...

Kami fidgeted nervously as the Chairman told her that taking Grass-types probably wouldn't be the best idea. Over half of her Pokémon were weak to fire anyways. Lombre's water type nullified the fire weakness anyway. She hoped she had made the right choice when she chose her party. Kami began to leave to collect the high tech equipment for her mission.

"Oh Kami," Kami spun around as the Chariman spoke once more, "Be careful out there. This will be unlike anything, I trust, you've ever faced before. You have my best wishes, Miss Kami." Kami gulped as she left. 'Maybe I'm not cut out for this," Kami thought.

She left and followed Kenon through another high security process in a hallway. Kami came to a laboratory where a scientist introduced herself as Lila Sanary. The scientist led Kami through some Hi-Tech equipment that she would be using.

The first was the Anti-Kelvin suits that the Chariman had mentioned. Next were Convectionator Gloves. Kami herself would be using these to use the man's fire against him. Then there were Hidden Ace Laser Handhelds. These would be for the Pokémon to use super accurate Hidden Powers. The last piece of technology was a Flash Fire Flashbomb would absorb the heat from the fire man once he was subdued. She then went into the changing room to get her A.K.S. on.

She came out and went into a chopper. She was going drop using a Selfdestructing Parachute. The name rather intimidated her but she had come this far already, she wouldn't back out now. Kami screamed as she jumped out of chopper. The girl screamed the whole way down all the way until she hit the ground. The trainer had always been afraid of heights ever since she was a little girl. The fear had lessened in more recent years, but some of the fear had still lingered. She staggered to her feet, completely shaken from the drop. "I am never doing that again!" the girl yelled aloud. She wiped away the few tears that had formed. She now had two options searching around the mountain's base or going up higher. Kami decided that she would go up higher immediately. It seemed to her that a burning man would be up nearer to the top of the volcanic mountain.

Question; Do you prefer doing quick updates, or don't mind waiting for me to reply? Lol.. I only ask 'cause I often wait to reply, usually two days, but I an always do it quicker if you like.

Deciding it best to heed Marge's warning, Red withdrew Ledah, and waited for the event to start. 'A couple hours of sitting and waiting, strange thing that there isn't others waiting also. Needing all the help they can get, I guess they must be in short demand.' he thought, twirling Grimace's pokeball on the floor. For whatever reason, Red was feeling rather uninterested in getting himself into trouble, which is a change considering most of these little adventures often do end with something rather dramatic. "Hopefully not today!" he sighed. 'The initial plan right now I suppose is to blend in completely, and try not to offend anyone of power.' Releasing Grimace, his rather carefree little Magby, she quickly joined in on playing the exciting game of Wait. She looked rather happy to be out of her pokeball, which made Red feel guilty for not letting her out more often. Apparently she'll be his main pokemon from now on, she was strong, obedient, and very compassionate towards everyone she meets. Red knew that could be a problem. He would have to teach her to be ruthless and deceiving; Use her size to her advantage, and hopefully overcome the challenges they soon face. Grim was near evolution, but Red didn't know whether or not go ahead with it. He loved his Magby the way she was, but thoughts of wreaking havoc with the fire behemoth, Magmortar, made him warm and fuzzy inside. For now, she was content with playing with her toes.

He got up and walked down towards the training grounds, now deciding that now was a perfect time for a small flight, to pass the time atleast. Motioning for Grim to follow, they made their way down the hall. As he walked through the doors to the side rooms he pushed all of those thoughts clear ot of his head. He'd needed to be focused, ready to greet their leader, or commanding officer, whatever. But before he could make it close enough to reach the handle, he felt a tug at his left pant leg. Grim; seems like she wasn't in any mood to get into trouble, and made it very clear by tugging harder to pull her trainer back.

"You're right, we really should wait, just a second," Red said in a cold voice which kept his partner from questioning him for fear of being punished of some sort. He was very curious, but shouldn't let it get the best of him. Grimace knew that, she often did. She was wise despite being a pre-evolutionary form. She lead the way back, and scanning the room for any other life in it but their own. Silence.

"Perfect.." Red muttered as the Grim went back to playing with herself.

The Surroundings

The Sacred Forest: Growing around a huge Crystal Statue to Celebi, the forest’s protector, the forest somehow always grows back after Eruptions, and is always green and full of life. Many Bug and Grass types live here, as well as other tree loving types.

Note to Updaters: I've dropped out of the Rapid Fire Cloud Garden for this place.

The Sacred Forest...a great wooded area that never dies to the fury of the volcano, perpetually guarded by the legendary protector, Celebi...

The greenery of the luscious forest wasn't the only reason Jamie had wandered to this beautiful realm. He'd always been an appreciator of the arts, and had heard of the crystal statue of Celebi, the Time Travel pokemon. As his eyes caught sight of the entrance to the forest, his hand involuntarily twitched for his balls as he gave a little grin, taking three of them and giving them a gentle toss to reveal the occupants.

The pudgy form of Butterbean, his latest addition, plopped up from one of the orbs, while the other two revealed Volcape and Yakuza, both recently evolved. The Monferno gave a stretch, while his Honchkrow gave a low caw before lazily taking to the skies and propping his form on the trainer's shoulder, tilting his weight and causing Jamie it crash onto the floor with a heavy thump, amidst chortles from the three of them.

"Very funny, wise guy..." he groaned as he clambered up from the deck and beckoned the three of them forwards as he wandered casually into the forest, wondering what could await them in this place, and his main objective: Seek out and admire the Crystal Statue of Celebi.

As the two of you run through your plans on dealing with the double scenario with Sheena, Brawly's form suddenly begins to ripple with a peculiar energy; a bright light starting to shimmer all over his frame. Before any further discussion his body appears to explode with blindingly white illuminescence, and you both watch on as Brawly's spinal ridges grow larger and sharper, his lower jaw and belly increasing in girth, and his skin starts to develop yellow patterns. As the light fades, Brawly reveals himself to have accessed the next stage in his evolutionary line, but while this normally would be a blessed event the situation doesn't call for celebration.

"Alright," nods Sheena. "That would be the best course of action; I'll have Titus try to stall for time while you rescue the Phanpy, Wes." Turning to the Omastar, she barks out a quick order, and Titus promptly charges up electricity in his metallic hands before firing the gathered energy at the fossil enemy. As the android's Shock Wave stuns Omastar in place, Brawly takes the chance to dive into the water and make his way towards Phanpy; meanwhile Zak releases his Venusaur, Kerry, the sizeable Seed Pokémon dwarfing all of you but still not quite matching up to Omastar's height. Confused at her surroundings, Kerry takes a brief moment before taking in her commands, firing a beam of light from the seed embedded in her flower. All of a sudden the Sunny Day takes its effect; everything around you seems brighter as the sunlight punches holes through the canopy and casts a brilliant spotlight onto the lake. While Omastar shrieks at the unwanted ocular intrusion, Brawly swims over to the drowning Phanpy and, while supporting it with his forelimbs, deftly kicks through water to make his way back.

"Over here!" Sheena yells to Brawly, and the Croconaw recognises his cue to deliver the asphyxiating baby elephant to her side. "Looks like we were just in time," she mutters grimly, producing a Quick Ball from her pocket like the ones you were provided with, and in a flash of light seals the Long Nose Pokémon inside for stabilisation. "Zak, it's your show!" she calls, before beckoning to Titus. Nodding curtly, Titus makes his way over, taking Phanpy's Quick Ball in his palm as his eyes glow with a faint blue. In a second the Quick Ball takes on the same blue as Titus passes on his Recover skill, healing the Pokémon inside with his convalescent programming, but the sounds of Omastar screeching and water churning more violently than ever catches your attention. In its blinded, hurt state, Omastar has become nothing short of berserk, and Sheena's shocked cry is the only warning you have to a Spike Cannon that explodes from where Omastar flails. Cones of fossilised calcite tear towards the three of you at murderous speeds, spread out from Omastar's aimless release but no less deadly. At Sheena's holler the two of you hit the ground along with your Pokémon, just before the first wave of spikes whizz over your heads. Crashing and cracking sounds are heard as the car-sized projectiles fly into the forest, soon followed by the surprised cries of the local Pokémon and the loud rustlings of their scattered escapes. In a few short seconds that seem like hours, the both of you risk a peek to check on the field scenario; Omastar has yet to let up its attack but the storm of spikes it flings is being thrown in every other direction but yours, the raging ammonite having lost all control. Before you can get to your feet, however, a stray spike whirls its way towards Sheena, petrifying her to where she lies, her mouth open in a soundless scream...

CRUNCH.

The sickening sound reaches your ears first, but it takes a few more moments to realise that Sheena isn't the one skewered. Having realised the immediate danger his mistress was in, Titus apparently dropped Phanpy's Quick Ball by Sheena's side before executing a final, quick Teleport to intercept the missile, which catches him by his skewered chest before landing a few metres short of the scientist girl, its trajectory interrupted by the collision and extra weight. The three of you look stunned as Titus' body shivers with overloading circuits and agonised sparks before he weakly extends a hand towards Sheena... and collapses.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" the young woman shrieks, her eyes filling with tears and distress, and the sight of her distinct anguish almost makes you think she's blaming you for her android's demise. "TAKE THAT MONSTER DOWN! QUICKLY!" Jolted back into action, you relay secondary orders to your Pokémon, who follow it without much further ado. In no time at all Kerry's floral appenages pick up the abundant sunlight around her, letting her fire a Solarbeam at the rampaging Omastar while Honii lobs another of his Seed Bomb manouvres over. The laser and grenade make the mark, causing smoke to erupt explosively from where Omastar is, and you half expect the ferocious fossil to have disintegrated into smithereens from the critical combination. As the smoke fades, however, Omastar is shown to have not fallen apart but having sustained massive injuries, large trickles of blood flowing from its forehead and sinister cracks spreading about its spiral shell. Feeling its consciousness leave, Omastar gives a final croak before it topples backwards, its shell making a wave first before its rubbery body follows. As though mesmerised, you watch on as Omastar's tentacles disappear, one by one, back into the seemingly limitless depths from which they once came. Level up for Brawly, Honii, Luxio and Kerry.

Stunned from the epic battle you just fought, the two of you slowly get to your feet, still staring at the now tranquil lake as though Omastar might come back, bigger and badder than ever, when the sounds of crying break your trains of thought. Sheena is still crouched where Titus landed, tears pouring through the fingers pressed against her face as she mourns over his remains like those of a dear friend...

With Grimace having decided your course of action for the next few hours, you somewhat grudgingly make your way into the middle passageway, your Magby happily tottering ahead. Although you're once again greeted by the same length and confusing curves of the old mine passages, the journey seems less of a struggle since your way is illuminated this time round. Eventually, though, the cavern starts expanding in height and width, giving way to the most gigantic alcove you have seen in the Magma Base so far. Looking round, the Main Hall certainly looks impressive -- row after row of seats are cut into the rock with places indicated for the recruits and existing members, and a good number of people have already gathered along the carved bleachers.

Nervously you make your way inwards, between the colossal hewn rows, and as you pass the pockets of people gathered you observe that most of the new recruits -- decked in a medley red tops and grey bottoms -- possess somewhat general traits amongst each other. The males are either buff and burly or scrawny and sinister, while the females are either loud and proud or snickering and sneering. Their Pokémon selections appear to mirror the respective hopefuls: bulky Magmortar and Golem for the boys, and lithe Ninetales and Sandslash for the girls. While you walk by them the males start pointing at you, registering your presence briefly before aiming leers and smirks in your direction and Grimace, quite clearly mocking your underevolved Magby who stands in contrast with the other Pokémon in sight. At this Grimace bows her head in private embarassment, and while feelings of anger briefly surge in you for the blow to her self-esteem Grimace has taken, you understand it's not quite wise to risk blowing your cover at this point.

Making your way up some steps to find a choice seat where you won't be bothered any further, you eventually locate a choice spot away from everyone else but not significant enough to get noticed. Grimace plonks herself next to you, though her initial enthusiasm has clearly been dampened as she holds her little feet, rocking back and forth listlessly. Sighing, you place your chin on your palm, mulling the situation over as the sounds of raucous conversation echo about the cavern. In one instance, though, you hear a particularly loud bout of girlish giggling, interspersed with accented insults like the ones people hear on music video channels, before it melts into the ambient noise.

"Ex... excuse me?" The soft, shy voice of a girl greets your ears, and reflexively you turn to your right. Next to you stands a teenage girl, her brunette hair covered with a parka similar to what you're wearing, and her knee-length grey skirt softly moving with the convection. Beside her stands a Chimchar with a depressed look on its face enough to match that of Grimace's; you quickly realise that the girl must have been the target of the female taunting you heard.

"Sorry to bother you," she continues, her view divided between you and the ground as a faint blush starts to develop on her cheeks. "But... would you mind horribly if Monty and I sat here? Next to you?"

Taking in his orders, Mario gleefully focuses more of his spiritual powers into his eyes, knocking the curled Sandshrew by the side with another Night Shade. This time the erratic, otherworld lightning bolts slam directly into Sandshrew's side, and the energy-based move forces the little rodent to reveal itself in pain from the attack, sprawled along the ground. Before it can pick itself up, though, Mario is already on the job, ramming a second Knock Off into Sandshrew and causing it to lose its discus once again. Squeaking weakly, it tries to retrieve the precious item, but before it can reach over the violent aura of Curse surrounds it again, and Sandshrew gives off a faint moan before it collapses centimetres away from the coinlike object. Level up for Mario.

As Mario smirks over his victory, you proceed to pick up the gleaming circle -- upon closer inspection, the pattern appears to be of a pick and shovel in an X-formation, with a rather elaborate crested shield in the centre. A banner carries the letters "BARMY" at the top, and at this your eyebrow lifts in bemusement.

"Hello over there!" Suddenly, you hear the voice of a senior citizen male, followed by some scrabbling sounds made by someone walking across the dusty, gravelly ground. Looking in the direction of origin, you spot a white-haired man head over towards you, with a magnifying glass in hand, a knapsack on his back and donned in archaeologist garb. "Oh, I say!" he exclaims as he nears you, bending down when he reaches Sandshrew and scoops him up in his arms. It's crystal clear now that this old man must be Sandshrew's trainer, and for a moment you fear what he might do or say at the sight of his beaten Pokémon.

"I must apologise, young man," he says to you, much to your unexpectant surprise. "Nigel here often gets ahead of me when we explore ruins and such, tunneling through the ground to help me in investigations. Every now and then he gets too big for his own boots and tries to give anything he comes by the old one-two... but I see you've shown him quite a jolly good show, eh what?" smirks the old man as he gives you what appears to be a knowing wink. Whoever this person is, he seems to put the 'strange' back in 'stranger', but at least he's making an attempt to be chummy... how will you choose to react?

Deciding that the mystery magma man won't be hanging about in the lower areas of the volcano, you begin the hike up the heights of Mount Eris. While the A.K.S. does help to prevent the dangerous temperatures from affecting you, the equally harsh terrain makes the upwards journey difficult. The ground is certainly not suited for walking on like a pavement, even with your suit aiding you, and you're certainly not used to trekking through such environments. Every now and then a blast of steam or poison gas erupts from the volatile ground, nearly making you stumble in shock, while rivulets of molten lava start to run down the volcano's sides as you gain altitude. Occasionally you spy huge puddles of lava heading around, which reveal themselves to be Slugma schools on the move. If not for the danger of the environment and your mission, Mount Eris is actually quite the intriguing tourist attraction -- from a safe distance, anyway.

Before you know it, though, you reach the midpoint of the volcano, and while the heat hasn't taken its toll the weariness from walking up a geographical oven has, and you manage to find a rock suitable for sitting on and catching a breath. Heat and fire blaze all about you, briefly distorting the view of lava flows and steam blasts, when a unique mass of fire catches your eye. A sickening image resurfaces from your mind as the smouldering figure comes closer, and you recognise the living hunk of fire from Chairman Labrazahm's monitor screen. Soon enough the human torch comes near enough for him to see you, and as you look into his eyes you are somewhat surprised to find that the ferocity you were expecting to see is not there.

"I can see why you're here... you were sent here to look for me," he sighs, looking to the smoky skies. "I do not wish to hurt you... but if your purpose is to apprehend me, I will not go without a fight." So saying, he lifts his arms up and throws them down, and in an instant his bodily fire erupts with such intensity you almost fall backwards off your sitting stone from the heat wave. Looks like it's showdown time...

[Like I said on MSN: bloody hell! This is amazing, thanks for the great updates ;D]

From the bank, Zak watched as the seemingly impossible battle took a turn for the worst. Though Wes' newly evolved Croconaw, Brawly, seemed to be handling the rescue mission better than he expected, the problems at hand became even worse. As Kerry had unleashed the blinding light of sunny day upon the surroundings, shocking the Omastar and dazzling the majority of the other pokémon in the area, Omaster had flown into a berserk rage, sending a wicked spike cannon attack in every direction possible.

Though Zak, Wes and the pokémon dodged the powerful attacks as they flew at them, the fate wasn't the same for Sheena and Mechadabra. As one of the collosal appendages soared right towards Sheena, the threat of death approaching freezing her in her tracks, Zak's face dropped, she couldn't die. As soon as this happened, a flash of light appeared between Sheena and the Omastar's dangerous attack. It was Titus, protecting it's mistress from any damage, thus, sacrificing itself. As the attack collided with Titus, it began to malfunction, collapsing to the ground. Sheena, already shaken from what had already gone on began to become hysterical herself, demanding that the Omastar be dealt with soon.

This was Kerry and Honii's cue to attack the beast, the Venusaur unleashing her most powerful solarbeam attack and Wes' Teddiursa began a seed bomb attack. Finally, the Omastar began to take proper damage, in fact, the attacks were powerful enough to completely deal with the ancient pokémon at last, assisting in the leveling up of several of the two trainers pokémon.

Now that the battle was over, Zak ran towards Sheena with Kerry in hot pursuit, "Sheena, my gosh, are you alright..?" he began to speak rapidly since his nerves were still shot, despite the battle being over and a humongous weight lifted, Zak was now worrying for Sheena and how she would deal with the shock of the attack that could have killed her and the loss of Titus. Waiting for Sheena's reply, Zak looked towards Wes and his pokémon, they had worked well together and he gave the other trainer a nervous half-smile.

"Let's get you out of the open to calm down, meanwhile, Kerry, return!" Zak motioned towards Sheena to follow him away from the dangerous area, though it was now quiet, he couldn't be sure what would happen if they remained there, there could be more insanely large and threatening pokémon and he wanted to press on, he intended to add a new member to his team before his time on Adventure Island was up...

Kami hiked up the mountain looking for the fire man. She chose her paths carefully to avoid the molten slugs known as Slugma. An explosion of poison gas suddenly knocked down the young girl. Kami staggered to her feet and kept walking upwards. She kept going until she came to halfway up the mountain. The girl was weary so she took a seat on a rock. Kami suddenly realized that she was not alone up here on the mountain. The living torch was there as well! "I can see why you're here... you were sent here to look for me. I do not wish to hurt you... but if your purpose is to apprehend me, I will not go without a fight," the man says. Suddenly a burst of flames erupts from the man. Kami nearly fell off of the rock she had sat on.

"I'm sorry, I don't wish to harm you either. I must bring you back to Volcanity Inc.! From what I understand, they can help you!" Kami cried to the man. She grabbed a Pokéball from her purse and threw it down releasing her Lombre decked out in his A.K.S.. "Lotus! Time for the showdown!" Kami yelled out to the Water-type, "Cool him off with your Water Gun! Then make a wave with your Surf attack!" Kami looked down at her hands. 'Time for me to activate these Convectionator Gloves I guess,' the girl thought to herself.

"Hello over there!" Suddenly, you hear the voice of a senior citizen male, followed by some scrabbling sounds made by someone walking across the dusty, gravelly ground. Tyrant knew that the end of the battle would be coming up soon, Mario had been constantly on offense. Mario fired off another black thunderbolt in the form of a Night Shade. The Ghost energy zaps Sandshrew into uncurling from its defensive position. Continuing to bring the hurt, Mario slammed into Sandshrew with another Knock Off, sending the disc flying once more. "Alright, I've got it now!" Tyrant says, as both he and Sandshrew run after the disc. However, Tyrant stops to see Sandshrew cringe in pain, as the Curse from earlier sets in. Sandshrew, immediately afterwards, drops down, KO'd. Mario floats over to Tyrant, happy about the win. "Great job dude, I'm proud of you." Tyrant responds. His attention quickly turns over to the disc, which he picks up. It shows a picture of shovel and pick in an X-formation. "B-A-R-M-Y." Tyrant spells out.

Suddenly, someone calls out. Tyrant drops the disc as the voice startled him. At closer inspection reveals the voice to be one that of a senior citizen and that his occupation would be an archaeologist. He picks up the fallen Sandshrew and compliments Tyrant on a job well done defeating his little Sandshrew. "Thanks, but the credit goes to Mario, that was his first battle, and he did fabulously." Tyrant responded. "May I ask you some questions, sir?" Tyrant begins, "What was your Sandshrew doing with this disc like thing? And if you do know what this is, what does "BARMY" mean? Is it some misspelling of "BURMY", as in the Pokemon? It would be very helpful if you informed me, as this could potentially be a cool adventure."

Wes anxiously bit his lip as he saw his Croconaw valiantly dived into the loch, hoping he’d cross Omastar unseen with relative ease. Watching intently, he sighed with relief as Croconaw latched hold of Phanpy and kicked his way back to the coast. Wes was certain to never allow his Pokémon to delve in such traitorous lakes again. If it wasn’t for Sheena’s Mechadabra and its “shocking” maneuver, he was certain Brawly would have fell victim to the squid’s hefty tenticles.

Having taken the final blow from Kerry and Honii, Wes was delighted to see the colossal fossil return to the Murky depths after an onslaught of vegetated blasts and explosions. What he was more pleased with though, was Brawly’s sudden change in height and stature. The hardy croc was no longer a baby, but now an adolescent like his trainer. Smiling contently at his Pokémon, they each ran toward him to embrace in a team hug. Whilst Teddiursa lightly jumped into his arms – gripping him lovingly, Croconaw attempted to do the same, only to inadvertently tackle Wes onto the grassy floor. Brawly had grown too big to carry, something he was quite miffed about.

However, upon rushing to his feet, he heard the sound of Sheena sobbing. Quickly turning to the source of the dismal blare, he found Sheena leaning over the mechanical corpse of her dear Mechadabra. Although the traitorous sea monster had been defeated, it clearly managed to leave its mark on its attackers. He couldn’t help feel deep pity for the beautiful maiden. Although the young trainer couldn’t help consider to himself whether a mechanical Pokémon could easily be repaired, or replaced with another cyborg with an identical personality. However, he was sure to keep his questions to himself – the mood was too somber - he was in no mood to upset a girl he cared about so dearly. The boy kneeled down to her level, trying his best to give his condolences, whilst still attempting to get the scientist away from the lake.

“Sheena, I know what it’s like to lose a best friend”, he said softly – partially tearing himself, “But we have to keep moving, I know it’s hard, but if that Omastar returns…” he got to his feet again. He noticed Zak was ready to move on, so he nodded in indication and recalled Honii and Brawly. Looking toward the deep jungle, he knew he’d be happy to leave the lake and delve into the tropical greenery.

Oddball - Repost
As you begin to tug on the object, the Mamoswine bellows louder than ever before, it is still in immense pain but you can tell that it is being relieved, slowly but surely. The object, whatever it is, seems to be sliding out of the pokémon's thick-skinned foot little by little.

"Swiin!" the group of baby Swinubs cry in unison, a cry of happiness. One particular Swinub seems to have become even more confident around you than the others and begins to rub itself on your leg in an appreciative manner.

Finally, the item comes dislodged, it appears to be a large fang of some sort. Upon closer inspection, you realize that it is actually belongs to another pokémon, this unnerves you slightly. The fact their are wild pokémon in this new time that actually attack each other in such a manner.

"Maamoooswiiine!" The humongous pokémon climbs to it's feet, at last it's pain is relieved and it seems to be as healthy as ever. It bellows one final time, however, this time it raises it's huge self onto it's hind legs, one of which had a serrated tooth in it until just a moment ago, before landing again, making the earth quake slightly.

Despite it's size, the mother Mamoswine is not afraid to try and show you affection, she slowly begins to rub herself on you. As she does this, the whole troupe of Swinub begin to do the same, one even jumps onto your shoulder.

Once the celebration is over, the loving Mamoswine gathers her babies up with a grunt, turns her back and pads through the foliage, creating a humongous path for her babies to shuffle through, however, one of the babies seems upset that it has to leave you, the same one that rubbed itself upon you first and jumped onto your back.

What will you do?

The Sacred Forest - please reply in purple

As you and your three pokémon continue towards and into The Sacred Forest, you notice the abundance of wild pokémon and their families. Cries echo througout the whole area, but most of them come from deeper within the forest, where it looks much darker than the outer woods.

Walking further, you discover a small clearing and several wild pokémon sparring naturally, a Pidgey and Spearow flitting between the trees in the canopy and a Growlithe and Vulpix wrestling around on the soft grass. All of the pokémon look quite young and it's apparent to you that the environment is fairly safe as they seemingly train upon each other within the safe arms of the large trees.

"Makuu!" Butterbean cries happily, noticing the other young pokémon playing amongst the foliage and in the clearing. Being a baby himself, it seems apparent that he wants to join in the carefree playfighting. As he begins to toddle his little body through the shrubs and into the opening, the young pokémon flee in various directions.

At first you think it's because of Butterbean's friendly enthusiasm, but a deafening cry soon shows you the real fear invoker. A rather disgruntled looking Rhyhorn had burst through the trees on the other side of the clearing whilst you were watching the young pokémon and had seemed to have spotted you, pawing the ground as if it was about the charge.

What will you do?

"It's alright Grim," whispered Red as he gently pats her head, comforting her from the snickers and whispers the duo received when they entered. The little live coal pokemon looked intently up at her trainer, obviously distressed from the other pokemon and their trainers. “We have nothing to prove to them, nor should we have to.” Grimace gave a half hearted smile, her attempt at keeping her composure. Red on the other hand wasn’t very pleased with the remarks either, but chose not to show it. â€Who the hell do they think they are?’ he thought angrily, â€Their pokemon we’re also young at one point, what difference is it if my own happens to be adolescent.’

"Sorry to bother you," she continues, her view divided between you and the ground as a faint blush starts to develop on her cheeks. "But... would you mind horribly if Monty and I sat here? Next to you?"

Seems like there was another trainer also in the same situation, only she appeared less confident in herself and her pokemon than him. Grim quickly got to her feet, inspecting the Chimchar which the young girl owned. Monty, who had the same solemn look on his face, interested Red greatly. Never seeing a Chimchar before, he couldn’t help but feel admiration for him. “No bother at all, after all, we seem to be the obvious choice for the outcasts.” he said hastily. “This is my Magby, her name is Grimace, and you make call me Red. I’m sure she would love for you to join us.” Grim, who blew spouts of smoke as an indication of her acceptance. Red picked her up and placed her onto his lap, leaving room for the pair. Ignoring the reality that he and his pokemon grew impatient, Red waited silently for things to proceed. He could help but think this might've been a waste of time. Doubting the fact that he might have some ties to this place. Maybe he was better off just leaving now, before things go any further.

Adventure Island - Please reply in burlywood
With the immediate threat now vanquished, more or less, the both of you turn your attention to the weeping scientist woman. For a while, she seems completely disconsolate, and you can't help but worry for her and the danger of more ferocious creatures coming for a pot shot at you. Eventually, though, Sheena gets up, though her cheeks are streaked with tears along with dirt, and you see regret deeply entrenched in her eyes.

"You're right," she murmurs, and you're shocked at how soft her voice is; weak to the extent that she might break from the force of a glare. "We can't remain here... That Omastar might be gone, but we're hardly out of the woods yet." Reaching over to Titus' broken remains, she picks up the spoon the Mechadabra had held on to in activation, and lifts the metal plate that had been Titus' chest guard. "Looks like there's still one left," Sheena notes, and extending her thumb and index finger into the labyrinth of mechanisms she manages to retrieve a shining yellow disk; the one undamaged thing in the android's pierced stomach. "We need to get to safer ground for now. I'll explain everything once we're there -- we might be stuck in here for a few days," she says, pocketing the items she retrieved from Titus.

As you slowly take in Sheena's words in shock, the blonde scientist girl begins moving towards the forest, through an unmarked route amongst the wreckage of foliage from the battle. Having no other choice apparent or available, you follow Sheena for a considerably uneventful trek, the wild Pokémon having been scared off by the Omastar's screeching earlier -- yet your minds and hearts remain unsettled, in apprehension for what is to come...

***

Night has fallen upon your company of three, Sheena having located a private alcove of a clearing in the forest. Some time is spent on making a few necessary traps to catch any offending intruders, erecting tents and starting a fire, which you find yourselves gathered round. Brawly, Honii, Luxio and Kerry have been released in the open for some rest and relaxation, the young Phanpy joining its saviours in joyful play; the Adventure Island scientist having ascertained that the baby elephant had made a full recovery. For a long while, silence is the only thing that goes spoken; the shock of facing the giant Omastar hasn't quite worn off, and neither has the melancholy of losing Titus.

"Well... I suppose it's time I explained everything. The two of you have every right to know exactly what's going on," says Sheena, breaking the quietude. "You know how Adventure Island was discovered to have special specimens of Pokémon, correct? How there are shiny Pokémon, and Pokémon several times their normal size?" The two of you nod slightly; the fight hours ago testament to everything you've heard about the island safari.

"For a long time, we couldn't quite explain the phenomenon. Obtaining any data was close to impossible considering we had to capture and monitor giant Pokémon to get any concrete information, but after years of trials and testing, we found the answer," Sheena continues. "From the few giant Pokémon we could consistently monitor, we found trace amounts of mineral that have never been seen before in the realms of biology. Pokémon size experiments in the past have given suggestions as to how the size of Pokémon can greatly exceed normal standards -- modified Rare Candy, or particularly designed diet and location -- but none of those examples have come close to what we've discovered. What we know of the mystery mineral is that it not only increases a Pokémon's size after prolonged exposure, but also unlocks other aspects of their biology, such as intelligence and advanced genetics. Normally wild Pokémon wouldn't be able to use attacks from Technical Machines or moves that are bred from other evolutionary lines... but the mineral seems to be capable of activating knowledge on these attacks in Pokémon that are exposed to it long enough." In a brief instant, you recall the events of the battle: the Omastar had indeed executed a Bubblebeam, which in normal circumstances would not have been available.

"Months ago, we conducted a geological survey of various regions of Adventure Island. One of the diagrams we obtained from the mountainous sector seemed to indicate presence of a huge deposit of unknown mineral, in what appeared to be a gigantic cavernous area -- most likely, it was the mineral that caused the giant and shiny Pokémon phenomenon," adds Sheena. "Some weeks after we had discovered this, however, we started getting reports of giant ancient Pokémon outbreaks much like the Omastar you saw earlier today -- they would attack anything in their path, including trainers and our surveillance robots... and not all of them were lucky enough to escape. All of the scientists proposed shutting down Adventure Island temporarily until we could resolve this issue, but the board of directors wouldn't have any of it. They were convinced that the fossil rampage was an opportunity to draw in more trainers thirsting for adventure and challenge. The Safari Game continued to be hosted... and..." At this, Sheena begins to tremble and shake her head, and you subconsciously bow your heads in silence as Sheena begins to sniffle once more. Clearly Titus wasn't the only death the young woman had to experience, and affectionate consolation wells up in you for the scientist girl who had to go through so much.

"What Volcanity Inc. couldn't do, though, was stop the news from getting out. They couldn't cover up the deaths and disappearances of trainers, or the accounts of the trainers who encountered the giants and lived to tell the tale. Even after the outbreaks started to dwindle no one dared sign up for the Safari Game... We couldn't blame them, considering we still weren't any closer to discovering a solution to the problem once and for all." Looking up at you, Sheena's lips turn into a sad, apologetic smile. "That's why I had said you were the first trainers to appear. No one else in their right mind would have signed up if they'd heard the news... I... I'm so, so sorry!" she wails, fresh tears breaking from her eyes. "I should have let you know... I should have warned you adequately! Titus wouldn't have been destroyed and you wouldn't be endangered..."

At her deep sadness, the two of you huddle over, offering words of support and comfort. Their attention caught by Sheena's outburst, the Pokémon come over and do likewise; Phanpy walking up to the kneeling researcher, softly nudging her lap with its trunk. Looking all around, Sheena's crying soon ceases at the encouragement of everyone around her, and she picks up the Phanpy to nuzzle softly. "At least you're still fine..." she whispers in its ear, before sighing.

"With Titus' signal gone, the scientists back at the island's research centre would probably issue a search party for me," she says. "We can either wait around to be rescued, or... no, I can't. I just can't." Moaning, Sheena places her face to her hands again. "What was I thinking? You've already risked so much being here... I can't possibly ask you to risk your lives trying to help me..."

At this moment, it seems Sheena's faced with another dilemma. With Sheena's account of events still fresh in your minds, it's quite clear that leaving things as they are will resolve nothing in the long run, but the threat of the mutant fossils is equally strong -- especially since there's certainly going to be much more of them if you choose to help Sheena.

What will you do?

Smugglers' Tunnel - Please reply in LightSteelBlue

Mild fury burning inside of you at the injustice both you and your most recent acquaintance have clearly suffered, you gladly consent her to a seating position next to yours. Gratitude fills her face as she picks up Monty and sits down, her leg slightly brushing against yours as she does so and causing her to yelp at the contact. Awkward silence sinks in for the next few passing moments with your right cheek feeling a slight pulse of heat; clearly your seating neighbour isn't very used to having the company of strangers. Mentally sighing, you begin to wonder if your trip has been worthwhile -- it's rather likely, at this point, that the Smuggler's Tunnel and Magma Base hold no link to who you were and are. The thought of leaving crosses your mind, but then you'd have to explain yourself to Mitch if you tried, at the very least -- and the look the gruff man last gave you half convinces you that if you tried to escape to the other hemisphere, he'd come after you.

The sounds of hooting and applause suddenly rouse you from your thoughts; seemingly, the hall has filled up while you were deep in the recesses of your mind. At the bottom where the stage is, a young, rutile man in a regal cloak and uniform has taken position at the podium, smiling and raising his hand at the raucous audience. Next to you, the outcast girl is likewise joining in with the cheering and clapping, and you quickly join in to blend with the crowd. Eventually, though, the young man calls for everyone to calm down -- a process that takes another minute or two.

"First off, I'd like to extend an extremely warm welcome to the newest members of Team Magma -- all of you recruits out there who have decided to join up with Team Magma and fight for our cause," he declares, "To expand the land surface of the world!" Another explosion of applause and cheering.

"Since the departure of our Team Leader, Maxie, we have not been able to continue on with our mission," continues the cloaked person. "The events that took place in the Hoenn region some years ago has severely hampered the progress of our cause; our numbers subsequently dwindled from police arrests, and as a result, three quarters of the earth still remains covered in oceans and seas!" This time, the audience roars with a storm of boos and hissing, and to your surprise you notice that the girl next to you is joining in most emphatically, wildly waving her fist in the air.

"However, looking at the crowd we have today, I feel reinspired that there are much more people out there who support our mission. These people have risked everything to be with us here today -- the danger of arrest, the disapproval of their kin, and above all, the targeting from our sworn enemies; Team AQUA!"

As in on cue, the wall behind the person you're now sure is the Leader of Team Magma is flourished with a large blue flag, painted with a symbol that resembles a letter "A" blended with skull-and-crossbones design. The crowd's booing escalates to a literal fever pitch; rotten vegetables of all sorts are pelted at the enemy emblem as though they had been prepared for such an occasion, followed by a chaotic storm of fireballs that soon reduce the offending flag to ashes.

"Thank you all," nods the Leader. "With the assistance of you new members of Team Magma, under the leadership of me, Aaron Faight, we will soon show the world that humanity needs more land! We will educate them on the danger and wretchedness of the ocean! We will show them that, without a doubt, WE ARE THE ONLY WAY FORWARD!"

In a second flourishing movement, the giant flag of Team Magma takes place where the Aqua flag once hanged, and the loudest uproar of cheering is heard from the crowd, explosive to the extent your ears start ringing from the wildly waving mass of human and Pokémon. Escape seems impractical given the amount of individuals surrounding you, but at the very least you know what Team Magma stands up for -- literally stands up for -- small consolation, though, it seems...

***

By the end of the inaugural events, despair has slowly started to slink in. Not only have you yet to find anything that could provide a clue to your past, you realise that your chances of leaving this place of no promise have been considerably dim. Following Leader Aaron's speech, the recruits -- along with you -- were taken on a proper tour of the main facilities, led by Marge and Mitch, continued with a session where all the newcomers were paired off in a "buddy system", of sorts. Naturally, with no one else willing to accept you and Grimace, Monty and his trainer, Valerie, were automatically designated as your fellow comrades in Team Magma. A dinner packed with spices and meats followed, before everyone was shown to their rooms in the Accomodation Sector; a giant catacombs-like chamber resembling a huge multistorey apartment of flats -- where you now find yourself, lying on a mattress of stone and clay, decked in your new official Magma Grunt uniform.

"Red?" The voice of Valerie shyly pipes up, and you lift your head to see her at the carved doorway of your room. "Would you mind if I came in for a while?" A curt nod of your assent afterwards, the brunette walks in, seating herself on the room's stone stool.

"...Boy. That was some speech today, huh?" she says, and you can tell it's an earnest attempt on her side to strike up conversation. "Y'know, Red... though we've just become partners, we don't really know that much about each other yet... why we're here, who we are... that sort of thing." Tension spikes about your spine once again as Valerie's words trigger some very recent, relevant memories.

"Though if you're not comfortable about saying anything... I'm fine too. I just figured that all of us must have the same sort of reason why we're here, right? All of us were united under the cause to fight the oceans and waters." Noticing Valerie's voice starting to tense up herself, you turn to gaze at the seated girl, whose fists are clenched tightly and shaking.

"My family... my friends... were taken away by the ocean. Years ago," she trembles, and you see that she's not quite looking at you. "We lived in one of the Sapphire Islands, and that night it was my turn to look for dinner in the deep woods... when a tsunami struck. When I returned everything had been washed away; I only learned of their fate a few days later when a rescue team picked me up." She lifts her head this time, and you can see two silver rivulets have streaked down from her eyes. "I'm sorry, I've been so, so selfish... just blabbing all my troubles to you like this. You must have had gone through something similar, right? I just thought... since we're going to be partners from now on, I thought that we need to know each other better. So we can work together and fight for the cause of Magma."

In all honesty, you can't be sure of your own history -- you've been drawing nothing but blanks so far, and even if you had underwent a similar disaster you can find no such memory of it. Your only response is to nod in empathy at Valerie, at which she smiles gently and appreciatively. An instant later, though, the Slugma candles in your room suddenly fizzle out, as though controlled by some circuitry mechanism.

"Well, goodnight Red," Valerie nods, as she gets up to leave for her room, next to yours. "We'll be doing training tomorrow, and it's important for us to get a good night's sleep... if at any time, you want to talk to me about anything, anything at all... I'm always there for you, partner."

Left alone to your silence and thoughts once more, you begin to run through everything that has happened so far. The chances of you having any link to this place are slimmer than a deflated Jigglypuff under a steamroller, and should you wish to leave now the darkness of night would be the best time. The guide through the main locations of the Magma Base has given you enough information to work your way out of the Smuggler's Cave. However, there's always the possibility of alerting the guards, and while you're quite certain you can take on Mitch, you probably won't be able to withstand the fury of the entirety of Team Magma's security force if you're discovered. And anyway, there's always the training tomorrow to look forward to...

What will your decision be?

The Lost City of Itonou - Please reply in brown

Tyranidos
"Ah, B.A.R.M.Y.? That stands for Band of Archaeologists Reseaching Monuments of Yesteryears. This badge is a symbol of identification held by its members, us humans and Pokémon alike -- losing this is quite a serious offence within the group, indeed. Thank you so much for relinquishing Nigel's," nods the old man. "Dear me, I've completely forgotten to introduce myself," he realises, before grasping your hand in a firm handshake. "Archie Allergy's the name, ol' boy, researcher of ruins about these parts. Nigel and I have been about this place for some weeks, now, trying to figure out the secrets of these ruins... I daresay you'd like to hear about it, eh what?" At the promise of cool adventure to come, you nod your head enthusiastically.

"Ho ho, jolly good!" chuckles Archie. "Wait just a little, I'll have to return Nigel for some R & R." Placing Nigel's badge in his claw, Archie produces a PokéBall from his belt, in which Nigel disappears with a flash of crimson. The aged man reclips the orb to his waist, before taking out a small handbook from his breastpocket. "Now, here we go..." As Archie pores through the pages, you lean in for a closer look.

"Centuries ago the City of Itonou was a thriving community -- the people of Itonou made use of Mount Ferit and its natural resources to build Itonou into a grand city in its own right," Archie reads. "The fields were made fertile from the volcano's minerals; the city's buildings and defences were constructed from materials the volcano breathed out; the wealth of the people came from precious metals mined from under the volcano's depths. With the abundant blessings of nature and the wise governing of its leaders, Itonou was the golden capital of the Volcanic Mountain Range.

"Some decades later after the point of the Golden Age, however, the people of Itonou began to grow decadent in their ways," continues the archaeologist. "They grew extravagant, greedy and dishonest, and history says that some of their leaders were even considering establishing Itonou as an empire by expanding their territory and control throughout the mountain range. It was then that Mount Ferit erupted in the most violent of its eruptions to date, completely without warning, burying the entire of Itonou perhaps in punishment of their evil. The ruins were preserved for years under volcanic ash and dust until the last century when it was discovered, and since then exposure to weathering and tourism has caused the ruins to fall into greater... well, ruin. Treasure hunters combed the entire city for the riches of Itonou told in legends, but nothing of astromonical or even significant value was ever found.

"According to legend, the bulk of Itonou's wealth truly lies far beneath the ground. However, people have made many an excavation project, and nothing ever turned up. Most people these days only think the Itonou riches existed only in myth, but I have reason to believe that they do, in fact, exist." At this Archie looks you straight in the eye, his own irises gleaming with an excited glint. "I've been here for weeks, studying the clues scattered about the ruins, and I trust that I've found some of the keys to this mystery! If I'm proven correct, this will surely shake the archaeological world at its core!" The old ruin maniac stands up straight, his arms opening wide to the ruined landscape, and you feel as though he's living, breathing excitement. "Undoubtedly, this won't be an easy task for me. Despite our experience, Nigel and I have never been involved in anything or anywhere like the place where we will be going, and I feel that I can entrust you with this. I need your help, young man, in unearthing the true secrets of Itonou." He looks at you now in a dramatic turn of his body. "So what do you say, good fellow?"

"Help me, you say?" As you hurl out Lotus' PokéBall to do battle, the human torch cocks his head to the aside, an almost amused look on his face but still painted with the same profound disappointment. "Let me ask you, little girl... exactly who it is do you think those people wish to help?" Before you can think the question question, Lotus has already assumed battle stance, having identified the immediate threat to your safety. Rearing his head, he breathes the strongest Water Gun he can muster at the living fire, a hiss of steam issuing from the man's epidermis upon contact and cloaking the area in white fog. You hold your breath, thinking that your opponent has been sufficiently subdued for a moment -- before the fog reveals the human torch still standing, his flames still burning as fiercely as ever.

"Was that all?" he asks, and yet you can hear no animosity in his voice. "I feel sorry for you for having to do this. RRRREARGH!"

Hollering, you watch as the man raises his arms and punches the ground, which starts shaking with the force of an earthquake. Pillars of fire suddenly burst from the ground's surface, tossing you and Lotus into the air with the force of his Eruption, and you instantly feel the blast of lava overwhelm your entire body with scorching agony, in spite of the A.K.S. suppressing most of the damage. Getting up, you see that Lotus is similarly pained, looking as though he's got half of his vitality punched out of him. "That was a warning shot," you hear the man intone. "You can choose to back off, now, and I will let you leave unharmed. I do not wish to harm anyone not truly involved..."

Still wincing from the pain, you observe as Lotus, angry and indignant at the human torch for endangering you so, vomits a wave's worth of Surf at the enemy. More steam erupts as water hits burning soil, and in a torrent of water this big the man's eyes widen. The liquid pours over him, and he gives a grunting shout at the dousing before his voice is literally drowned out. Once the water has cleared, you see that he's kneeling on the ground, still ablaze but not quite energetic; his flames have most certainly taken a beating and they're not as fervent as they were earlier, but still looking threatening enough.

"You don't have to do this, little girl," he breathes, his voice now distinctly laced with the pressure of battle. "If you pursue this conflict I assure that you will get hurt. I don't wish to see the innocent embroiled in this..."

Whatever the human torch knows which you do not, it's possible that there's much more to him than meets the eye -- or it could be all a trick. There's no way of telling at this point, but what's certain is that Lotus alone will not be able to handle the literal fireman's onslaught alone with his aquatic attacks, should you choose to press on.

What will you choose to do?

The girl looked at the fang that she held in her hand. Maybe she wasn't bad luck after all. she decided to carry it along. Who knew, it might be of use later. She saw the huge pathway that the Swinubs were taking, and decided she would follow. She appeared to be on good terms with their mother, and was definitely on good terms with one of the children. However, she decided to play it safe. She turned her head towards Volante and nodded before speaking to the Mama Mamoswine. "Um, Miss? it appears that one of your children would like me to follow you. Do I have your permission?"

Trying to comprehend the day's events and everything Sheena had told the two of them, Zak began to feel even more uneasy than he had previously, something he didn't think was actually even possible. He stood up and began to pace the little clearing they had decided to stay in for the night, thoughts of more giant pokémon rushing through his head. He wanted to help Sheena and he was sure that Wes was feeling exactly the same, but they would be running serious risks. Hell, he thought, they would be running risks simply by staying and waiting to be rescued. With this in mind, he began to decide on what the group could actually do.

"Alright, Sheena, asking us to risk our lives is a huge thing, obviously, but what will us helping you actually entail? Not only am I scared for us helping you out, but I'm scared about waiting around to be rescued, as you've already said and as we've quite obviously witnessed, nowhere in this place is safe..." Zak began, looking over at Sheena, his nerves beginning to show severely as he voice faltered in places and his hands began to shake just slightly, "...I just want to know, in what way can we help? I really want to, I just don't want to risk my life..."

Zak paced around more, trying to level his head out. He wasn't really the most experienced trainer there was and he had definitely never come across as dangerous an experience as the place they were in now, "Adventure Island? Pfft.." he mumbled to himself, trying to work out how they could call such a place by such a pleasant and inviting name. Granted, it was an adventure, but none like he had even taken part in before, he had never come across giant killer fossils or even had to think about the possibility of serious injury or even death at the hands of the creatures he admired so much. It was all too much for him to think about, especially when he was exhausted and had an empty stomach.

Sitting down, Zak rested his head in his hands, a little bit away from where Sheena and Wes were, simply because there was nothing he could think of doing but crying. Though he didn't cry for long, he felt like he had needed to do so for a long time and he knew that the two wouldn't think any less of him due to the current situations and what had gone on and would inevitably happen to the group.

"Wes, what do you think we should do? I want to help, but I'm not gonna suggest we help unless you're completely game, too..." Zak smiled slightly, wiping his face of the the tears, as he looked over towards his partner for this 'game'.

The previous post was devoured by a computer crash and subsequent pummeling of walls and pained hands.

That, and the fact that I've calmed enough to dare post again after recent events.

The sound of the wildlife in the area flitted through the forest with but a sound of natural peace, something Jamie hadn't seen for a long time. As his mind wandered with his team around him, he gave a slight whistle as the four of them casually headed for the deeper ends of the forest, though this was through the long way.

As they continued past a small shrub, a few sounds could be heard from behind it as the boy and his pokemon poked their heads through the bush and witnessed the natural play of young pokemon at play, with birds and young fire types all having fun in the natural sanctuary of the trees, and Jamie gave a small smile as Butterbean gave a joyful squeal at the possibility of making new friends as he waddled from the bushes as threatless as possible.

At that point, Murphy's Law came into force as the youngsters fled in various directions as the Makuhita wondered what was going on, and instantly Jamie's natural fears billowed open as he stepped into the open to see a rather miffed Rhyhorn scraping the ground angrily. Thoughts of that these things can do filled his mind: Rhyhorn were capable of knocking a trailer flying with a single tackle, and had the intelligence of a can of Pringles, a recipe for disaster. Butterbean didn't know much moves that could take it down, and Volcape, although he recently learned Ice Beam through a strange plushie, wouldn't like taking a full-on charge from the rhinoceros, eaving ony one logical choice.

"Butterbean, get back here quickly, you'll only get hurt out there. Yakuza, take to the skies and hit Rhyhorn with ice beam, aiming for the head, before trying that firestream you learned recently on the same spot. Whatever you do, don't get hit by his attacks, flying above him if he charges for you."

The Honchkrow cawed lowly before flapping into the field of battle.

As you ask the question, the mother Mamoswine turns around rather quickly. At first you think you have angered her in some way, but you notice a half-smile form on her large face and a tear trickle down from one of her eyes. It seems like she is happy about the idea, but you notice she begins to grunt at her children first. It seems like she is ordering the Swinub that has taken a shine to you to put up a fight, since she wants to witness it's first battle before it leaves her and it's siblings.

As the Mamoswine grunts, the Swinub looks up in shock but begins to ready her first attack. Leaping into action, she begins to form tiny droplets of ice and snow around her little mouth, it seems like she's readying herself to use a Powder Snow attack on Volante. Now would be the right time for you to issue your own commands for the battle. Though it is a young Swinub, it seems like it is ready to put up quite a fight to impress it's mother.

"Maaamo!" Mamoswine cries happily, it seems like she is gonna be the judge for this battle and has just officially opened the battle for you and her child. As she does so, the other Swinubs gather in a little group to support their sibling in her first battle and as they do so, they begin a little chorus of "Swins" and "ubs" once more. Volante looks at you, slightly worried due to only being level four, awaiting her first command.

What will you do?

As you issue your attacks on the Rhyhorn, it begins to become even more enraged. As it stampedes around the clearing, Yakuza's ice beam attack which was initially meant for it's head hits the ground below it causing it to slide into a tree. As you would expect, the Rhyhorn becomes even more agitated by this and, since it is so angry, unleashes a powerful rock slide attack, hurtling along the ground tossing rocks at the Honchkrow from the floor of the clearing.

Several of the rocks hit Yakuza and the Rhyhorn, seeing that he has done some damage, seems a little more content with the battle and calms down slightly. As he does so, the Honchkrow's firestream is sent down right at him, taking him by surprise and causing him to run at the bushes for shelter. This being a bad move, not only does he get caught in the bushes but they set on fire also with him within them. You notice the distress in the pokémon's eyes as it eventually manages to pull itself free from the bush.

Visibly shaken from the close call with the flaming inferno of a bush, the Rhyhorn begins to stomp near the fire, hoping it will stop engulfing the home of it and many other pokémon before it's too late. Despite the previous events, it looks at you with a sadness in it's eyes, as if to ask for your assistance in it's time of need. It had suddenly gone from being a dangerous, raging creature to a sad and worried one, just like that.

As the Rhyhorn frees itself, it becomes apparent that the pokémon in the forest know that there is significant danger as you see a multitude of different types of flying pokémon ascending at great speeds to save themselves from the impending doom before them. Yakuza looks nervous from it's hovering position above you, looking down to you for a command or another pokémon to try and stop the flames before they spread further.

What will you do?

What will you do?
Wes listened to every word Sheena uttered, from the history of the Island to the chaotic mutants that still roamed its tropical jungles. He leaned back against a tree, Zak franticly pacing deep deliberation. Sheena looked helpless, and crushes aside, the young trainer couldn’t help sympathise for her. He’d love to help, but like the other trainer kept stressing, they couldn’t continue to risk their lives. What once was a fun safari game had turned to this nightmare-ish game of survival. He looked over at his Pokémon for inspiration, Teddiursa had a distinct look of fear in his beady eyes; Croconaw however seemed much more plucky, prepared to fight. He then turned his head over to Zak, who appeared to be looking to Wes for a decision.

“This incident has been near-traumatic for me. It has for all of us”, he said rather bluntly, “But, I think we need to face our fears and go back into the untamed land. I want to help you Sheena, and I don’t want to go home yet.” Wes looked back at the small bear and the hardy croc. Although they’d helped him a great deal, they weren’t the most practical Pokémon for a peaceful forest exploration. Their mischievous personalities where likely to do more harm than good. Pointing the red-white spheres at the duo, they where quickly engulfed by the scarlet gleam and sucked into their holders.

“Have a good rest you two, I might need you afterwards”, he whispered to the Pokeballs. Upon placing the spheres in his pocket, the boy was quick to withdraw a third sphere with a snowy-white hue. Cracking open on the forest floor, the cute penguin Pokémon emerged from its bright radiance. The Piplup looked endearingly at her trainer, who seemed to have a much more serious disposition. Cradling the penguin maternally, he did his best to explain the situation. The adolescent was hoping such a sweet Pokemon would bring light to the gloomy situation they where in.

The battle before him opened up with Yakuza completely missing his vector with his chilly beam attack and Rhyhorn hitting a tree, as Jamie winced as the timber cracked from the impact, before giving a cringe as it lobbed rocks at his Honchkrow, pelting him painfully. As the bird retained flight, Jamie swore that the foe had calmed slightly from this action and his mind leapt into action: Rhyhorn must have been infuriated by something and had to let off some steam, in the same way that Volcape would often spew flames ar nearby inanimate objects when agitated.

It was at that point that Yakuza unleashed his Firestream attack, the fiery bubbles streaming towards Rhyhorn frightening the giant as they popped ferociousy against him and the human facepalmed as the horned pokemon barged into the nearby bushes for shelter, ony for them too to set alight.

Yakuza suddeny became rather worried as Rhyhorn cowered out of the bushes in fear and tried to fight the fire by stomping on the flames, as Jamie realised what was happening: The burning bush could threaten to torch the forest and kill many things, all because of him ordering Firestream in his attempt to calm the raging rhino, and his heart sank deeper as he gazed up at the birds fleeing the scene. Knowing the physical properties of fire, Jamie instantly threw another ball as the form of Meteos, his Lunatone, emerged. As the large crescent-shaped pokemon looked at the flames slowly building, he knew that something was up.

"Everyone, we need to work together to stop these flames from setting the forest on fire. Yakuza and Volcape, we know fire melts ice into water that chokes off the supply of oxygen to the flames, so use your ice beams on the burning bush and surrounding trees so they create a firebreak. Meteos, head around the bush and strike it with a blizzard so that it kills the flames andblows them near the clearing, tht way it should be beasier to control. Butterbean, when the fire is getting weaker, head in and help Rhyhorn smother the flames by ice punching the weakened embers, your flab should stop the heat from hurting you."

As the four prepared for the plan, Jamie thought about what could have enraged the rhino and caused his anger, before realising something rather dangerous: The fact that Rhyhorn were weak against ice meant that the combined forces could severely injure him.

"Meteos, while you're there, before using blizzard, try and help Rhyhorn out of there with some mild confusion to push him away from the flames, telling him through telepathy to stay away until Butterbean comes in before stomping the embers dead."

With a nod, Meteos floated into the battlefield as jamie called out to Rhyhorn, asking him to step away until the fire could be controlled as he will be hurt badly, and hoped the pokemon was listening.

As you begin to think on your feet, forming a plan almost instantly, the flames begin lapping at a nearby tree, as if they were alive, they start to climb up the side of the tree. Luckily, it's one of the trees where most of the wild pokémon seemed to have evacuated, but you couldn't be positive as quite a lot of smoke began to billow upwards, causing the clearing to seem much darker than before.

As you release Meteos and give your orders, your pokémon begin to get to work in their own ways to begin extinguishing the fire. Your Monferno and Honchkrow send ice cold shots of energy into the bush and the surrounding area. With a rather loud hissing sound, the flames melt the ice and seemingly begin to deplete slightly.

As the flames begin to get smaller, your Lunatone sets about performing it's commands, first and foremost, summoning it's psychic abilities to soothe the Rhyhorn and get it moved to a safer location before swooping upwards and above the burning bushes and surrounding area, blowing a freezing wind towards them, causing what fire remained to spread towards the central area of the clearing. Noticing the fire was now in the centre, Butterbean and the wild Rhyhorn set about attempting to get rid of the remaining fire, but as they approach it, it begins to grow in size once more, what with more fuel in the form of the grasses in the clearing.

The Rhyhorn, noticing this, quickly tackles Butterbean, sending him into the air before landing square on his head. Noticing that he had succeeded in picking up the Makuhita, Rhyhorn begins to run towards you, that look of fear returning to his eyes. Despite fire not being effective towards the beast, it was obviously something it was very afraid of, simply because of the sheer destruction it can and already is bringing to it's forest home.

Yakuza and Volcape turn to you, they had completed their orders and were waiting for their next set. It was obvious that they were both very unnerved by the situation too, they seemed to not want to make a slight move without your encouragement or commands. To make the situation worse, now that the fire had moved away from the foliage nearby, it was apparent that there was a small pokémon within the high branches of the tree that was on fire moments previous.

What will you do?

The girl looked around her. She saw the Mammoswine, blubbering away like a true maternal figure. She saw her children, cheering their sister on like a sports team at their next big match. Yet another memory came back. She saw, in her mind's eye, a campfire, people cheering and dancing around it while shouting in an unknown tongue. One of the figures grabbed her hand and continued hollering in the language before she joined the ring. She danced with them, chanted with them, then they approached the campfire... And then reality returned. The girl figured out her strategy. She thought of switching out Volante, but figured it was best to keep it between Volante and the Swinub. She decided it would be playing by their rules. After all, when you knock out a wild pokémon, does another one just plain pop outta nowhere? She sent out an order to her Pidgey. "Volante, give it three Tackles."

A pokemon battle that lasted for nearly a whole day. In the end, one of the trainers lost a pokemon to exhaustion. Her tears are said to have brought the pokemon back to life. But it caused a great disturbance as well. A time rift opened ontop of the messa. As such people have vanished here, and returned years later un-aged, and telling stories of futures yet to be, and pasts that have already come and gone. Who knows, you may end up saving the VM in the future, or playing a role in history.

Thick boots stirred dust as they walked along the dry arid land, the step seeming purposeful. The owner of those thick brown boots walked alone in silence, it had been a long time since they had last visited these mountains but they had a different location in mind this time. In years gone by she had travelled to the cold icy wilderness that was Mt. Poilo but she had been drawn to a much warmer envirnonment upon this visit and was dressed suitably for it. Along with the thick brown boots she wore light brown shorts that stopp mid thigh with a thin beige covering the rest of her legs, clipped to her shorts and tucked into her boots. Her grey tank top was covered by a short breast-length jacket. Hands were clad in worn leather fingerless gloves and her head was protected by a light sand-coloured scarf that fluttered in the slight breeze. With dark goggle-esque shades covering her eyes she seemed prepared for the heat and harsh weather associated with these mountains.

Her first time here she had travelled with her Pokemon by her side, a then young Duskull eager to explore but today she walked alone prefering her own own company. She stopped as she reached her intended destination a large expanse of flate tableland named the Time-Rift Messa that jutted out of the dry earth its steep sides casting shadows onto the ground. Walking around she found a suitable place to climb and dug her hands into the rocks pulling herself up. It didn't take long for her to reach the top which surprised her a little as she sat down on the edge and looked at the spectacular view it gave her of the surrounding areas.

Standing back up she looked around the area she had journied too, searched for. It had a mysterious history and being naturally curious by anything unusual and unexplained she had set out. She had seen so much throughout the years that she wasn't quick to doubt the strangest of stories. Brushing off the dirst from her shorts she walked slowly around the edge of the Messa deep in thought which for her was normal too lost in thoughts she sometimes missed the action. Well this time she ironically thought, it would be different.

After experiencing first hand the pure hate Magma Members, and fellow recruits, had for most thing’s sea based Red knew for sure he couldn’t have any connection what so ever. He felt no resentment toward the ocean, or any water type pokemon for that fact. Bandit, the spunky little Squirtle would be the proof to that matter, who has grown quite abit since his hatching and happened to be one of his fondest hatchings to this day. No matter about that now, he thought. With the security in the base, and the die-hard Magma recruits, Red had no choice now. It was either Join them, or Face them. The obvious choice, for many reasons was to stay, perhaps he can carve a new future here instead. What good is the past, if it has nothing to do with my future.

Later on that evening they found themselves being lead on a tour of the base, being lead by a familiar pair, Marge and Mitch. Wondering how long they have been a team. With how Marge was quick to defend, they must have grown close. Clearly devoted to the cause. Red found his stares to be abit lingeringly, and continued on, taking in the base and locations. This would be vital should he attempt to escape later on. Though it would be impossible now.

Before long the recruits were now in a quick dash for a partnering that begun. Like children at recess, the stronger were quickly to pair. Red found himself in the fray of it all, being shoved left and right, and quickly forced his way off to the sidelines, away from the others. This didn’t faze him much, he often like being left to his own, preferring it over any real connection to anybody. Oddly enough, he found himself face to face with Monty and her trainer, later finding out her name to be Valerie. He nodded in approval. Something inside of him felt that she may be worth the trouble, and will sure they’ll be ragged on further. At long last they we’re lead to the Accomodation Sector; a giant catacombs-like chamber resembling a huge multistorey apartment of flats -- where was left to his thoughts, lying on a mattress of stone and clay, decked in a new official Magma Grunt uniform. The soft fleecy fabric brushed ever so lighty against his dry, weather beaten face as he dug his face into the scruff of the hood. It had been a great while since he had worn anything other than that old hoody of his. However; it wasn’t much of change, other than the fact that this uniform was going to need some wearing in.

"Red?" The voice of Valerie shyly pipes up, turning slightly to lift his head to see her at the carved doorway of your room. "Would you mind if I came in for a while?" A curt nod of your assent afterwards, the brunette walks in, seating herself on the room's stone stool.

He knew exactly what she was up to. A knot slowly found its way into the lower part of his stomach, knowing full well that one of those heart to heart moments people love to have, to feel some connection or relativity to one an other. This types of conversations were something he hadn’t be to fond of, mainly cause he often found himself avoiding them to any extent. He couldn’t do it now, however; She continued on, explaining her story, how she came to be here, everything that Red didn’t know about himself. Knowing he couldn’t tell he exactly why he was here, he forced a sympathetic nod, and an awkward smile. His mind blank. "Well, goodnight Red," Valerie nods, as she gets up to leave for her room, next to his own. "We'll be doing training tomorrow, and it's important for us to get a good night's sleep... if at any time, you want to talk to me about anything, anything at all... I'm always there for you, partner."

Red uncomfortably flopped back down on his grizzly ancient bed, completely lost on what the plan should be, or whether he should just stay. Escaping now in the dead of night would be great, only if Mitch and Marge hadn't bin gaurding the entrance. Mitch, who threat's still lingered in his mind, would be more than glad to take Red down. And if it wasn't him, it would be the rest of the Team Magma squad. Red quickly sat upright, breathing heavily, his anger quickly rising quickly. Looking at Grimace's pokeball, he knew he was going to have to evolve her, and quick if he was going to find acceptance here. Now wasn't the time to do it, he thought. These room's are too close together.. Perhap's we WILL just have to wait for training tomorrow..

Red gently lay his head back down on his pillow, clentching the pokeball. Tomorrow he would have to prove himself.
