Litwick Evergreen Acres

Evergreen Acres

Off a now-beaten path from the town of Evergreen lies a large plot of land. This used to hold a large farm, and the farmer was a huge part of the community. However, he grew old and never married. So, he passed, and his land had landed in the town's hands. The community auctioned it off to raise funds, being purchased up by one William du Pont. On the caveat, of course, he too integrate within the community as the farmer did before him. Respecting his wishes, he's worked on reopening the place and kept its name: Evergreen Acres.

Evergreen Acres Farmland

A large swath of land that was built into the hills. While the farm has been mostly optimized now, large trees can still be found growing throuought. A river bisect the farm in two, separating the eastern and western side. A small Combee House colony can be found in the southwestern end of the farm, all harvesting honey from a flower known as the "Fairy Rose." This area seems to have a certain fae's protection.

Scattered around are various small cabins where guests can stay, as well as a few major buildings. The Farmhouse in the northeast. The Greenhouse east of that in the same elevation level. A Coffee Shop and a shed in the southwestern end, south of a hill with a magically regrowing quarry. Additionally, there's a large barn and coup that takes a good amount of the western farm, though currently they're abandoned. There seems to be a few more hidden areas of this farm... waiting to be unearthed.

The Farmhouse
Spoiler: show

The old farmhouse had been expanded quite a few times when the old farmer was there, leaving William with a rather large house. The entryway immediately leads into the kitchen area, with a large state-of-the-art kitchen and dining room. In addition to that, part of the room is left empty for smaller Pokemon to play around with the various training supplies within the chests. Furthermore, exercise equipment is also kept in the chests, allowing for a customizable home gym. The guest restroom is attached to the kitchen.

To the right of the kitchen is one of the living areas. Here, guests or Pokemon can come together to chat, hang out, and play games together. A large aquarium lines the back wall, where aquatic Pokemon can jump in and go for a swim or live within if they so wish. William's office area is also opened up next to this room.

South of the living room is the entertainment room. A large, flatscreen television takes up most of the room. There are a few arcade machines against the wall, in addition to a miniature jukebox. Various consoles from different generations are attached to the TV, and this room is often the one that sees the most use.

North of the living room is the master bedroom, with a large king-sized bed. Attached is the master bathroom, with a large shower/bath combo. Most people aren't often allowed in the master bedroom. Left of that is what was a nursery, but was seemingly untouched for years. Feeling like it was a bad idea to renovate it, William touched up the room and is now using it for his younger Pokemon to safely play and rest in. Left to that is a large, private library. Most of the books seemingly were... filled into the empty bookcases as the house was renovated. A large, warm fireplace can easily be lit, and comfortable arm chairs are there to allow a more quiet and intimate experience while reading. William can often be found here at night, reading a specific book.

The Greenhouse

A vibrant, lush greenhouse that seems to be magically enchanted. This was the only building that needed no repairs, and housed a multitude of rare plants and trees. Sprinklers attached to the room would always go off at six in the morning, despite seeming never connected to a water source. Various Pokemon can be found in here at times of day, either tending to the crops or eating them.

Heavenly Grounds Coffeehouse

Run by Milanor and Marshall, this coffee house tries to recreate the vibes of Charity's Embrace. All coffee beans here are aged in barrels in the shed behind the house. All drinks are sweetened with the Fairy Rose honey produced on the farm, and fruit syrups created from the fruits growing in the greenhouse. Various townsfolk often come here to work, so the place is often packed due to the curated vibes and the policy of "stay as long as you want as long as you buy a drink." Despite being far in the mountains... the internet connection is oddly perfect.

*Images are WIP.

All are welcome to peruse the farm!

"...and like, would we be sharing your room, or bugging your dad to build another addition onto the back of the lab?" Rose was asking. "Don't get me wrong, I got zero objections to the first one," she added with a shameless grin. "Just... I dunno, I mean, I move in and just start sleeping in the same bed with you, I don't want to just be leaving nothing to anyone's imaginations..."

"You have nothing to worry about in that regard," Eddie Starmie reassured his girlfriend. "The living quarters in the lab are all outfitted with soundproof paneling in the walls and doors. Homer was a big help in making this happen."

"Homer? Really?" remarked Rose. "Awful magnanimous of him."

"Oh, his motivations were more self-centered than you think," chuckled Eddie. "He sleeps in his ball in my room, and he was sick and tired of Terri's Mr. Mime waking him up in the middle of the night. When it reached a point that not even peace offerings of food could make up for it, he took drastic action."

"OK, that sounds more like Perform," laughed Rose. "So... we're really doin' this, huh? Movin' in together?"

Eddie smiled. "It seems so," he nodded.

Rose smiled back. "...and you're really OK with it?" she added quietly. "Like... ain't too soon or nothing? Like... I made my stance clear on this from the start, I'm all for it. I say what I mean, you know that, Ed. But... I'm, well... me," she shrugged. "You know me- headstrong as a Tauros. Just wanna make sure I'm not dragging you along with this."

Eddie squeezed his girlfriend's hand. "I have had ample opportunity to raise objections to this," he said. "I have no objections to raise. Besides which, recall if you will that I was the one to posit this idea in the first place," he added with a sly grin.

"...Oh, yeah, that's right," Rose chuckled. "So where we headed, anyway?"

"Evergreen Acres," Eddie responded. "It's a farm that's been open to the local community for many years. The old owner passed away, but the new owner is intent on keeping it just as open to the community as before. I never came here under old ownership, so I can't exactly make a comparison, but I confess myself curious all the same. I hear good things about the Heavenly Grounds Coffeehouse, and I figured I would surprise you with a date."

"Surprising me with a date at a coffeehouse you don't know shit about?" grinned Rose. "Damn, Ed, that's a pretty bold move!" Then, she pulled Eddie in close for a kiss, so abruptly and forcefully that when she let go, a dazed but grinning Eddie had to readjust his glasses. "I like that," she said, grinning even more widely.

"I had a feeling you might," Eddie grinned back as he straightened his glasses. "Shall we, then?"

"Let's," nodded Rose. And with that, Eddie led the way onward towards the coffeehouse in question.

Lucario Lay back, it's all been done before

Heavenly Grounds Coffeehouse. This place was hustling and bustling as usual, with a lot of the townsfolk coming around. The Lucario stood tall, watching from the counter of his cafe. Next to him, a Pachirisu was slowly grinding down beans, inspecting each grind with scrutiny. They were here to give a curated experience, that's for certain. However, the Lucario knew this day was strange. Stranger than the rest, as he stared at two particular patrons.

"Hey, Sandy, you think it's still a wise idea for us to be here?" one of them asks in a hushed tone.

"I'm here for the coffee. I trust that Lucario will make a good brew. You, however, are hoping to see him aren't you?" the other responds in a serious, focused tone.

Milanor knew who these two 'men' were. The angel and the devil that had often frequented his prior place of work. However, their auras had... changed. The devil's debauchery was still there, but it wasn't an all-consuming black. It had mellowed and turned into a powerful, robust red. And the angel's murky, brown aura had cleared... it was as if the filth and muck in his soul were cleansed, leaving only a brilliant white.

'You think we should tell William they're here, sulky?" he heard Marshall whisper.

"No. They're our guests today. All who enter seeking a cup are," Milanor reassures the Pachirisu, who gives a curt nod.

As Milanor worked on serving the duo their coffee, he heard a large knock on the door behind him. He looked at Marshall, who stepped in to work on the cups. Milanor opened the door to see a familiar face. Bazal, with a wheelbarrow full of milk. The rabbit gave him an awkward chuckle, and Milanor just shrugged. He knew his boyfriend didn't exactly like being the errand boy. But, he was the best runner in the entire team.

"Thanks hun. Let me serve these two customers real quick and I'll help. I assume the note helped this time?" Milanor asked the Cinderace.

"Oh, sure did! Still, it's kinda hard to run all of this as Pokemon is unable to communicate with people! Ugh. If only when I used Agility I could use telepathy!" The Cinderace started to bemoan loudly, causing a few of the customers to look over at the rather loud rabbit.

Milanor paid it no head and grabbed the two cups Marshall had just finished preparing. He took them over to everyone's favorite devil and angel and placed a cup in front of them. He blinked, realizing he couldn't exactly say what they had been served. Perhaps Bazal was right. Speaking the human tongue could prove valuable. Milanor knew his species was one capable of it... But, part of it felt wrong. Perhaps that was the Mightyena side of him.

"House Blend, I presume?" Sandy then asks him, and Milanor nods. The angel takes a sip of it, before setting it down.

"While your beans aren't of the highest quality, the aging process has helped detract from that. It brings out the subtle, earthy bitterness of the brew. The flavors are much more complex then, with hints of oak and burgundy. I do presume your casks were wine casks prior?" the angel gives his analysis of the cup, before turning to Milanor. The Lucario then nods.

"Excellent. While I did have to supply your prior boss with beans, you can grow them here. I think these beans, despite their quality, are best suited to your coffee's approach. If you can better their growing conditions then the cup shall improve. I expect great things out of you, Milanor," Sandy finishes his thoughts, before looking at the devil, who had been wordlessly drinking his own cup.

"Could I have some cream?" the devil asks before Milanor points at a small pitcher on the table.

"Oh, thank you! Mmmm, much better," the devil smirks, causing the angel's face to erupt into shock, then anger.

Yet, there was no bickering. Milanor gave an appreciative nod and headed back behind the counter. By now, Bazal had ended up unloading all of the milk and started to stock it in the mini-fridge beneath the counter. Milanor sighed. There weren't any malicious intentions here. Just a coffee connoisseur giving his honest opinions. Focus on increasing the crop's quality would better the brew. Interesting.

"Oh, right Mil, I saw an interesting pair while running here," Bazal speaks to Milanor, and the Lucario looks at him sternly.

"Who?" the Lucario asks, furrowing his brow.

"I think those two... were trainers from the Sludge Wave Coast?" Bazal pondered, and Milanor could feel a sense of dread.

Though, before he could question whom, he heard the door. A small, series of clear bells were attached to the door. It was meant to invoke a welcoming feeling whenever someone came in. It was also designed so the Pokemon at the counter could easily hear it, no matter how loud or quiet the place was. The Lucario turned around, swallowing anything he could, before looking at Eddie and Rose and barking out in welcome.

"...and then there's the question of my house," Rose was saying as they approached the place. "Like, is it just gonna be left empty until someone else wants to move into town?"

"I would imagine so," Eddie said. "Honestly, it might be something of a relief for Keith, if the next person who wanted to move into town didn't require having a whole new house built."

"There's something to that," Rose conceded with a nod. "Alright, I guess that works out well, then... and this is the place, I think, yeah?" she added, turning to face the storefront they had approached.

"This is the place- Heavenly Grounds Coffeehouse," Eddie confirmed. "Come on, let's go in and see what we can get."

"Alrighty, then," Rose agreed, as she led the way inside, grinning as she heard the bells jingling. "Damn, that's nice," she remarked. Then, as she heard the welcoming bark, she looked at the source and her eyes lit up. "A Lucario!" she breathed.

"Indeed," Eddie nodded, adjusting his glasses. "It seems this establishment is run entirely by Pokémon. Or at least mostly. It's hard to tell."

"Well, either way, consider my curiosity piqued," Rose stated. With that, she led the way over to the counter, her boyfriend not far behind. "Heya," she greeted the Lucario. "Alright, so... you probably gathered as much from my aura already, but I'm gonna level with you anyways- I'm a complete coffeehouse noob. I don't know a latte from a Lombre," she chuckled weakly. "But coffee I enjoy, I know that much, so, like... I dunno what to order, so I'm gonna leave it your call. Whatever you recommend most, like. I got no allergies or anything, so that's not a concern," she added. "Uh, Ed, what do you want?" she added.

"I... find myself in a similar state of choice paralysis," Eddie admitted. "Honestly, I think there's some merit to your idea- simply rolling with whatever the staff recommends. They would know the quality of their product well enough, after all."

"Yeah, true, they would," Rose nodded.

"I likewise have no food allergies," Eddie added, now addressing Milanor. "Oh, yes- Rose, which Pokémon did you bring? We should get them drinks as well."

"Hmm... Kasa'll probably just want whatever I got," Rose said thoughtfully. "Flare'll probably just want a saucer of milk, and Swoop needs caffeine like he needs a hole in the head," she chuckled. "So yeah, whatever you're making for me, I'd like another one for my Hisuian Decidueye," she said to Milanor. "A saucer of milk for my Litten, and some water for my Hawlucha. Ed, what about you, what'd you bring?" she asked.

Eddie thought about this. "Zero and Incognito don't drink anything at all, Pikablu will likely just want water... Elle could probably do with some coffee, but definitely not Lowercase."

"I wouldn't think so," Rose chuckled.

"All right- I'd like water for my Pikablu, a strong coffee for my Kangaskhan, and some milk for her baby, please," Eddie said to Milanor.

Lucario We don't even have to try it's always a good time

Milanor paused for a bit as two identical auras came in. Each person tended to have their own, unique signature. Something that made them... them. But, this was different. It was like a hazy fog. It was iridescent, nay, ephemeral. Like a gossamer shroud over their soul. He couldn't read it. He couldn't pierce through it. His perception was faltering, and he blinked. No. He had traced his aura once before. Back when he was still a Riolu. Back in that old coastal cafe. He could see the aura ooze like sludge. That little girl had it too.

"Mil, you okay sulky?" he heard Marshall squeak, prodding him.

"I'm fine. Promise," Milanor nodded his head, causing the Pachirisu to look at him with a hint of worry.

The two people soon headed toward the counter, spouting their inexperience with coffee. A few of the patrons looked at them and sighed. However, Milanor could see one speak up. One who most certainly shouldn't have. Well. This would most certainly be interesting. He would silently nod as the girl ordered her Pokemon's drinks.

"If I may, then I would suggest the house blend," Sandy told the two as he brought up the finished coffee cups.

"I most assuredly will be back, Milanor. Come, Lyle, we're leaving," the angel then told the Lucario, before beckoning the devil to leave with him.

"Yeah, Yeah. Later," Lyle told the Lucario with a haughty wave and started to head out.

The Lucario knew, that even if their forms were different than what the public knew, they were still them. Then again, the angel never purposefully interfered with the world of men. It was the devil that made a ruckus, using a borrowed body. Here, he looked much different than that day at the casino. But the demeanor was the same. The aura was the same.

"What the hell is a Pikablu?" Milanor then blurted out as the boy ordered his Pokemon's drinks. This was enough to snap him away from what had happened.

"I dunno sulky. Some sort of blue Pikachu?" Marshall questioned.

"It's a Marill! Some wackjobs think their Marills are some sort of evolved form of Pikachu," Bazal points out, setting the last of the milk jugs behind the counter.

"Huh?" Milanor turned his head slightly to look up at his boyfriend.

"What? You hear lots of things while wandering! Speaking of which, I need to go run some more deliveries. Later guys!" the Cinderace explains, before bolting out the door with the wheelbarrow.

"Oh brother. He's a handful, ain't he sulky?" The Pachirisu chuckles.

"Yup. But he's my handful, and I like it that way," Milanor states, finishing up the order and then pointing to one of the empty tables for their customers to sit.

The baristas then started to get Eddie and Rose's order worked on. Luckily, the customer flow for this time of day was on the slow end. The morning rush had already ended, and the lunch rush wasn't existent here as it was back in the City of Pentacles. Sooner or later, there would be customers to come to the cafe. Or, more or less importantly, whenever his trainer would show up asking for coffee.

Rose was beginning to seriously rethink the notion that honesty was the best policy. Other patrons were looking at her and sighing, and the Battle Girl was feeling more and more humiliated by the second. Eddie, however, stood firmly by her side, took hold of her hand, and shot withering glares at anyone who was giving Rose any sort of derisive look.

Then a complete stranger came up, and suggested trying the house brew. "Yeah... yeah, I'll try that, then, thanks," Rose nodded, grateful for some manner of constructive input on this.

"As will I, thank you for the recommendation," Eddie added. Then, he raised an eyebrow as the mention of Pikablu elicited a surprised reaction from the Lucario. The Cinderace's response, while Rose didn't outright understand it, she nevertheless was certain served to call Eddie's sanity into question. But, in the interest of not being one of those customers, she didn't try to start anything. "...I think they're uncertain as to what exactly a Pikablu is," she finally said to Eddie. "Like, I think they think it's just a regular Marill. Maybe if you sent her out?"

"Ah, a good idea," Eddie nodded. He opened up the Thunder Ball on his belt, and what emerged, well, it looked like a Marill, all right, and yet, the differences were there. The body was a darker shade of blue, and the belly and tail ball were both translucent, the innards swirling with a bright blue mist. And of course, there was the minor detail that this "Marill" stood at just under five feet tall. She radiated an aura of power that only a Poké God could. "...Pikaaablu?" she said to Eddie, her voice deep and authoritative.

Eddie nodded. "We're ordering drinks, Pikablu. I ordered you water, will that be OK? I know you've never been one for coffee."

"Blu. Pika!" Pikablu responded with a small smile and a nod.

"So, shall we find a seat while they work on our order?" Eddie asked Rose.

"Ooh, yeah," grinned Rose. As Eddie led the way to a table, he and Rose sent out the other Pokémon they'd brought- Rose sent out Kasa, her Hisuian Decidueye; Flare, her Litten; and Swoop, her Hawlucha. Eddie, likewise, sent out Zero, his purple and orange Porygon; Incognito, his Klinklang; and Elle and Lowercase, his Kangaskhan. Right away, as the couple sat down, their Pokémon began to make themselves comfortable. Zero and Incognito began conversation in their respective mechanical monotones. Pikablu bobbed her tail orb above Lowercase, to the Kangaskhan baby's utter delight, while Elle looked on with an adoring smile at how much fun her little one was having. Kasa stood near the humans, gazing around, getting a feel for her current environment, while doing her level best to ignore the flexing and posing coming from Swoop in a pitiful attempt to impress her. And Flare wandered about, never straying too far from where Rose was, but exploring the place enough to satiate her curiosity all the same.

Lucario We breathe in the air of this small town

Odd. The couple's reaction to the baristas' idle talk was odd. It was as if they could fully perceive the conversation... Even if it wasn't in their tongue. The Lucario blinked, as saw their auras turn purple for a split second. Purple? Usually those with that prophecy. That clairvoyance. It wasn't a blip. It was a permanent fixture. Purple was strange and powerful. It commanded a following. It commanded servitude. The regality of it. The silver Lucario gripped his fists. What the hell was going on?

It only made less sense when they released this Marill of theirs. It was almost as tall as he was! And he was tall for his species. The usual Marill was a third of the size of this thing. Was this thing truly a god? No. He had dealt with agents of the divine. Their auras... they weren't fully comprehensible. Sandalphon's aura was a blinding white, shimmering. But, it was cocooned behind twelve wings. Those pure, white wings wrapped around his core. That aura was what he was perceiving.

This... it was strange. But it was different. It did not feel like that of a deity. Not that of the divine, but it held power. The shimmering azure was the same as its belly. Milanor, at the very least, held respect for the Marill. But he dared not compare it to what he had dully experienced a few moments prior. But he felt it was wise not to stir any more trouble.

Slowly, but surely, the drinks were made for Eddie and Rose's entourage. The Lucario made sure to sidestep the Pokemon roaming around the cafe. While it was true that Pokemon was allowed there. After all, it was run by them, one of the main rules was to not disturb other patrons. And he could sense it. The rather large group was drawing the curiosity of the townsfolk. A lot of them seemed to be in awe of the giant Marill. However, the sudden commotion annoyed a few working on their laptops. This place was one of peace.

No one tried to stir anything yet, luckily. It was just a bombastic display with a lot of excited Pokemon coming forth at once. During peak hours, this entire cafe would be filled with chatter and laughter. Yet, that was a little while off, so it was just locals who worked remotely. After all, it did take quite a bit just to get through the northern range. Still. It was peaceful, for now. Perhaps it was time to take a fifteen before the rush came in.

"Gonna take fifteen" Milanor let the Pachirisu know.

"Gotcha, I'll go when you get back," the Pachirisu nodded.

The Lucario then headed out of the backdoor and looked north. The farm was certainly coming together now, wasn't it? Still, the skies were quite clear today.y There was a nice, alpine breeze. Truly, nothing could go to shit now.

The Lucario seemed bewildered by the couple, and even moreso by Pikablu. Twice the height of a regular Marill, and with a regal sort of aura to her. Moreover, Milanor seemed to notice that Rose could kinda pick up on the general idea of their idle chitchat. While Rose did not understand any spoken Pokémon languages, she was damn good at figuring out what they were saying anyway, going off tone of voice, body language, and whatever context she might have from her side of things.

As they took their seats, Eddie and Rose continued to talk, but took care to not get too loud. They could see some of the people working on their laptops, and they saw how peaceful this place was just in general. They had no desire to disturb either one.

"...Wow, this place really is nice," Rose murmured. "Just so... peaceful."

"Indeed," Eddie nodded. "It's perfect as a quiet work environment. Or, as you more likely took notice of, perfect for just relaxing and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, I presume?"

"Heh, exactly," grinned Rose. "Maybe we should come here more often... well, I guess we'll make that call once we've had our drinks," she shrugged. "But I got a feeling we ain't gonna be let down." She then looked over at her boyfriend, who was tinkering with his PokéGear. "Whatcha workin' on, Ed?" she asked.

"I'm putting the final touches on an Upgrade for Zero," Eddie responded. "Normally upgrading a Porygon would be a simple process, but with how much of Zero I had to rebuild and rework from the glitchy mess I was presented with, some minor alterations were absolutely in order, the better to ensure it all goes smoothly."

"PORYGON," Zero droned quietly, floating closer to Eddie at the mention of all this.

"Ah, Zero, very good," Eddie smiled. "I'm just about done here... aaand... that should do it," he stated. "If you would please enter the PokéGear?"

"PORYGON," droned Zero in response. It then began to revert to programming code, and the PokéGear vibrated as the Porygon entered it. "UPGRADE DETECTED," came the Porygon's droning monotone, but now speaking human language, and emanating from the device's speaker, and just as quietly, too, so as to not annoy anyone working nearby. "STANDARD ISSUE 137-233 UPGRADE. SEVERAL MINOR MODIFICATIONS DETECTED. SCANNING... MODIFICATIONS DEEMED SAFE. OK TO INSTALL UPGRADE?"

"Yes," Eddie confirmed.

At this, a progress bar appeared on the screen, filling up at a slow but steady pace, until it finally hit 100%. The device gave a beep, and Zero's voice sounded again. "WHAT? PORYGON IS EVOLVING!" it droned. An image of Zero appeared on screen, but flickered intermittently between the initial image and a similar image of a more rounded version of Zero. This happened for several seconds, before the flickering stopped, leaving only the image of Zero as a . "Congratulations! Your Porygon evolved into Porygon2!" came Zero's voice, just as quiet, but less monotonous. There was still an inorganic edge to it, but it was no longer an overtly robotic monotone.

"Wait- Zero evolved?" Rose asked.

"Yes indeed," Eddie confirmed. "Zero, emerge from the PokéGear, please."

And Zero silently did just that. The newly-evolved Porygon2 floated in midair, glancing around at the coffeehouse as though seeing its surroundings properly for the first time. "Poooryyy... gon twooo," it murmured.

"Zero, are all systems functional?" Eddie inquired.

The Porygon2 did not answer right away. It swiveled its rounded feet experimentally, wiggled its tail, turned its head around. Then, it closed its eyes, seeming to ponder something. Then, it turned to Eddie and gave a firm nod. "Gon two!" it responded.

Eddie smiled. "I'm glad to hear it," he said.

Before long, their drinks arrived. Pikablu drank her water contentedly, and when Zero floated over, regarding the beverage curiously, the Poké God let it tilt forward and dip its beak into the water. Eddie watched this apprehensively, but Zero seemed to consume the water, and nodded to Pikablu, almost, it seemed, as if in gratitude.

"Fascinating," Eddie remarked. "Zero appears to be exhibiting signs of free will. Of course, I always did get a slight sense of... something from it in the Porygon stage," he added fairly. "A certain degree of informality to its speech patterns. A spark of something more."

"I know what you mean, Ed," Rose nodded. "Does Porygon2 have another upgrade to it?"

"It does, but not one officially sanctioned by Silph Co.," Eddie responded. "The end result is an officially recognized Pokémon, though. I actually have the necessary data on this disc," he stated, producing a Dubious Disc from his bag and showing it to Rose. A singular disc contained within translucent purple casing. Unseen by either one of them, Zero seemed to have noticed the Dubious Disc and was regarding it curiously. However, it did nothing in response to its presence, and Eddie put the Dubious Disc back in his bag with no issues.

Rose then took a sip of her coffee. "...Ed, we are so coming back here," she grinned. "Their house blend's good stuff!" Kasa, who had likewise just tried it, hooted her approval, keeping her tone more subdued than usual- she'd noticed the annoyance some of the patrons seemed to have towards noise, and the efforts on Eddie and Rose's part to not be so loud, and had resolved to not screw it up for them.

"...I'm inclined to agree," Eddie nodded, following his own first sip. "This is delicious."

"...kangas," Elle chimed in with a smile following her own first sip. She then took hold of the bottle Eddie had brought along. Eddie poured the milk into it, and with the top secured, Elle proceeded to feed Lowercase the milk. The baby Kangaskhan appeared to enjoy it immensely, to general delight. Flare, meanwhile, lapped up her saucer of milk, drinking it at a leisurely pace, and shooting insolent glares at anyone who came too close to the saucer for her liking. She eyed Zero warily as the Porygon2 came hovering over, and hissed disapprovingly as it tipped forward and dipped its beak in the milk, but ultimately it floated away after that, leaving Flare with plenty of milk still. The Litten still didn't approve of that, but supposed it could have been worse.

Litwick I fill my lungs with everything

Milanor could sense shifts happening in the building. Something changing form, into something new. While evolution wasn't really discouraged, he knew it could prove to be... disruptive. Well. Not his fault. He was on his fifteen. Yet, he could see someone coming from the other side of the farm. Welp.

---

This was just fantastic. He was planning on this being a nice, relaxing Saturday. A day where he did nothing important. Laze around and watch television. But, of course, he didn't get to have that luxury now, did he? The man gritted his teeth as he crossed over the farm's wooden bridge.

He stopped for a second and inhaled. Nice, fresh, mountain air. That for sure was what he fucking needed now. He took out a pack of cigarettes from his back pocket and lit one. Into his mouth, it went, the tarry taste of tobacco. He could burn through an entire pack right now if he wished. No matter. Not what was important.

What was important was that he had sensed them. Sensed something was amiss today. The presence he had felt at the coffee shop, well, he knew better than to just let it be. Why would he let it be? He had thought he'd never see that snake again. And it just filled him with anger. Frustration. RAGE. THIS WAS HIS LIFE DAMN IT! HE WASN'T GOING TO BE A FUCKING PUPPET AGAIN.

The man walked over the bridge at this point and punched a tree. He could smell burnt wood and looked over. Shit. He placed his hand on the small cinders and absorbed them. Flash Fire was a hell of a drug. Still, it was odd that he could produce his own flame in this form. Yet, he knew he needed to keep his anger in check. Before it spread like wildfire.

As he approached the hill, he saw a blur jump towards him. Milanor. The Lucario looked slightly up at his trainer, holding a palm out.

"Will, what are you doing?" the Lucario asked calmly.

"What do you think? Tell me, was he here?" William's eye twitched. He looked sternly at the Lucario.

"Yes, but they're gone here. The angel had things under control," Milanor reassures his trainer, being caught off guard by the plurality of the response.

"Shit. Ugh, thanks Mil. Got myself worked up over fucking nothing I guess," the man groans, slipping into the common tongue.

"Though, there are people here who'd interest you," the lucario points out.

"Hmm?" William asked, taking a long draft before sighing. The rage was gone.

"Denizens of the SLudge Wave Coast," Milanor curtly replied.

"Joy. I get a visit from one of them, and they don't even have the courtesy to knock," William rolls his eyes, before cracking his neck and knuckles. He tosses the cigarette butt on the ground and stomps it out.

"Better say 'hello' to the guests, then," he blinks, his tone cockier than before.

Feeling a wave of pride wash over him, he heads up the hill. He gets nods from a few people leaving. He could tell, they were just as peeved as he was. Oh, did Mister Masters make his farm a circus? Or did he have other guests from there? No matter. He opens the door with gusto, a single wide swing. And as he enters the cafe, he feels all eyes on them. He could see Marshall gulp and immediately scurry to the coffee machines.

"Oh, Mr. du Pont! How lovely it is to see you!" an older woman shouts, waving from a table littered with papers.

"Madam Mayor, it is quite lovely to see you as well. Now," he turns to Eddie and Rose.

"Welcome to the cafe. Please, tell me, how is everything going? I sure do hope the quality is up to your standards," William asks of them, his yellow eyes unwavering. His calm, cool attitude was seemingly only betrayed by the purple flames within his pupils. And a toothy grin.

The morning was a peaceful and relaxing one as Eddie and Rose sat in the coffeehouse, sipping from their cups, and talking about anything and everything. Further logistical concerns about Rose moving in with Eddie. Plans for training later in the day. Zero's evolution, and the potential it possessed that the basic Porygon model lacked. All of this, of course, done quietly so as to not earn their fellow patrons' ire. It was a nice experience. Peaceful. Relaxing.

And then the door swung open, and Rose involuntarily shivered as though the door led to a walk-in freezer. Eddie took notice of this at once and turned to look at the person who had entered. He didn't necessarily see anything off about him, but Rose looked alert, wary... scared. This was not helped as the man approached their table. The mayor addressed him as Mr. du Pont, Eddie noted. And then, Mr. du Pont approached their table, and Rose found herself heavily reconsidering her assertion that they would come again. She didn't know why. All she knew right now was that the man who had approached their table freaked her the fuck out, and by what he was saying, probably owned the joint, too.

Eddie took hold of Rose's hand under the table, and addressed the man who had approached. "Everything is going very well, thank you... Mr. du Pont, it was?" he said. "Edward Tentacruel Starmie, head of the Starmie Cryptopokology Research Laboratory in Sludge Wave Coast, but please, call me Eddie. And this is my girlfriend, Rose. As to your question, I would not be so pretentious as to say our standards are that high, but I like to think that if they were, this establishment would more than meet them nevertheless. My girlfriend and I are enjoying our coffee immensely, and the peaceful atmosphere and exemplary service has only enhanced the experience." Rose was too scared to say anything, but nodded to agree with Eddie's words all the same. Normally, when in the grip of such paralyzing fear, she wouldn't have the presence of mind to even do that much, but Eddie holding onto her hand was helping with that, even if only a little. Not that she felt particularly at peace in the moment, but antagonizing this man felt like a bad, bad, stupid, horribly reckless, and just plain not smart idea.

Meanwhile, Flare could not possibly have failed to notice her Trainer's discomfort. The Litten pushed her saucer of milk across the table until it was right next to Rose's coffee. Flare then lied down right near her Trainer, and looked up at the newcomer. Her gaze betrayed no hint of aggression. Not yet. Right now she was just watching. Seeing whether she should get aggressive. And Zero kept an unblinking eye on the proceedings, the Porygon2's expression impassive as ever as it collected data. There was really no telling at this point what Zero would actually do with this data, but whatever might need done, it would be certain to be ready for it.

Litwick I'm just a wandering spirit, long dead and gone

William paused for a second at the woman's sudden reaction. He could taste it, her fear. Yet, he wasn't interested in pushing her buttons. He was more curious about who they were as a whole. And thus, the young man with her started to explain who he was. Eddie Starmie, professor of Cryptopokology. And next to him was his girlfriend, Rose. William could tell they were younger than him by several years, even if physically they all looked the same age.

"Well, I am glad that you are enjoying your time here. I do apologize, my original purpose here was for someone who seems to have already left," William politely states, before chuckling.

"Still..." he starts, grabbing the back of a chair before leaning in. He pauses for a moment, hearing Marshall squeak. He sighs, and heads towards the counter.

"Thanks, Marsh," he tells the Pachirisu nonchalantly.

"Of course Will! Just glad you're not ripping them a new asshole, sulky," the Pachirisu sighs in relief.

"Not worth it," the man mutters, his expression more glum.

He takes his drink, and iced cold brew with cream, fairy rose honey, and foam, and heads back over to Eddie and Rose's table. These two... they were just parts of a whole. He looked a bit downcast, realizing that there would be no point in toying with them. No. He wasn't going to be like his 'father'. He purposefully had been avoiding the Sludge Wave Coast for that reason. For all of the things he could say. All the things he could do. All of the knowledge he had procured from [REDACTED]'s archives. He wasn't going to burden himself with any of it.

"So, you're a professor then Eddie? Well. I do have two Pokemon with me that I think you'd find interesting. Cryptids within their own sort. A tsuchinoko, and a mothman. Both of them take up residence in a cave on the farm. Tsuchi likes the cold earth, and Mothman likes the dark," William tells Eddie as he returns to the table.

And as William does so, his shadow stretches out beneath the table. Well out of the view of either Eddie or Rose. A pair of yellow eyes peers out from it, waiting for Flare to make eye contact. Once the Litten did, Zero would slightly emerge from William's shadow. The mythical would give a ginger wave to the Litten, before slinking back into its trainer's shadow...

He was a Ghost-type. Or at least, he had some sort of ghostly aura about him somehow, and how would one have that if one wasn't a Ghost-type? Whether he was a Ghost-type, Rose wasn't sure, but something about this man's aura unnerved her as only a Ghost-type could, and already the memories, completely unbidden and uninvited, were playing back in her mind...

~~~~~
Screams of panic rang through the air. Seagallop Ferries were departing as the residents of Seven Island were evacuating. How the Spiritomb had arrived on the island, and what its ultimate goal was with all this destruction, nobody knew. But not everyone had fled the island- two of the town's strongest Trainers had remained behind to try and fend off this maniacal menace- Striker Elia and his lovely wife Nina.
"Sawk, use Close Combat!" Striker barked.
"Mienshao, High Jump Kick, now!" commanded Nina.
From a safe distance, a young Rose Elia looked on at the impending showdown with fascination. Her uncle had been trying to get her away from the town, but she'd given him the slip. The sudden evacuation, the screams, the panic, it was all scary, but hearing her parents commanding their Pokémon against this unknown enemy brought her comfort. They were the ultimate, the absolute, the strongest and most unbeatable Trainers- nay, the most unbeatable people!- that Rose had ever known. She looked up to them both, aspired to be like them, and hearing them call for their partner Pokémon's strongest attacks elicited a comforted smile from the little girl.
This smile, however, was short-lived, as both Sawk and Mienshao flew right through Spiritomb as if it wasn't even there. The entire Elia family looked stunned at this development. "What- Sawk, what happened?!" exclaimed Striker.
"Mienshao, how did that miss?" Nina cried out. She turned to look at her husband. "How is this possible? Is there a type of Pokémon immune to Fighting?"
"I wouldn't have thought such a thing to be possible!" breathed Striker. "I know we don't exactly know all the Pokémon types that are out there, but this...!"
Rose, however, had her gaze fixed where her parents' gazes ought to have been- on the Spiritomb. For while Striker and Nina were recovering from the shock of their Pokémon's strongest attacks utterly failing, Spiritomb was charging up some nasty-looking energy in its wickedly grinning mouth. With Sawk and Mienshao trying to pick themselves up a little ways behind Spiritomb, the couple was completely exposed and defenseless. "Mom! Dad! LOOK OUT!!!" Rose screamed. But it was too late- her screams didn't make a difference, and before her parents could so much as register the warning, the Spiritomb had already unleashed a calamitous Hyper Beam. Rose couldn't tear her eyes away, could only watch in horror as her parents were nigh vaporized by Spiritomb's attack. Even as her Uncle Bruno caught up to her and tried to pull her away, even as she was physically turned away, that grisly scene remained burned in her memory forevermore, the horrific memory only too happy to resurface whenever Rose encountered a Ghost-type Pokémon.
~~~~~

Eddie was paying attention to what William was saying, but at the same time could not fail to notice his girlfriend's fear. He kept a firm grip on her hand all the while, and this seemed to be all that was keeping her from losing her cool completely as she held his hand right back as though for dear life.

As William headed to the counter, Rose turned to Eddie. "Something about him freaks me the hell out, Ed. It's like he has this... ghostly aura about him. I don't know how, and I don't know how I know, but he's... I can't..."

"It's OK, Rose," Eddie murmured. "We'll pay for the drinks and leave. It'll be fine." Before Rose could reply, William returned, and to Rose's utter horror, pulled up a seat and parked it, stating that he had a few Pokémon that Eddie might find interesting- cryptids of sorts. A tsuchinoko and a mothman. "I am intrigued," Eddie replied. "The tsuchinoko I've heard of at least- a progenitor to modern-day Dunsparce and Dudunsparce, it's said. Not unlike PokéGods like Pikablu here. However, I'm afraid our schedule today is a bit too demanding to accommodate such a demonstration-"

"N-no, Ed, it's- I- I think we can stay for this," Rose interrupted. She still looked- and sounded- scared, but she was managing a small, grateful smile for her boyfriend. "Y-you'd be kicking yourself if you missed out on this. I- I won't have it."

"Well, certainly we can stay if you're sure," Eddie murmured. "But that's just it- are you sure?" he asked.

Rose nodded, shakily yet resolutely. "I'm sure," she replied. At the same time, she squeezed Eddie's hand all the more- his presence here, his willingness to accommodate her fear, even if it meant passing up an interesting opportunity like this, it resonated with her more than he even knew. She was not comfortable, not in the slightest, but as long as Eddie was there with her, and as long as this Mr. du Pont didn't start attacking them, she felt like she could handle it. Maybe. Hopefully.

Eddie nodded, then turned back to William. "Well, Mr. du Pont, it appears I had previously misspoken about the tightness of our day's schedule, so yes, I would very much like to see these Pokémon of yours."

Flare, meanwhile, made eye contact with the Marshadow. The Litten had seen the shadow moving, and got up to investigate, meeting the Marshadow's eye contact unflinchingly. "Hello," she meowed warily. The Mythical Pokémon didn't seem to have any ill intent that she could pick up on, but Flare knew this was a Ghost-type, and that Rose was good and freaked out already as it was just by the Marshadow's aura. She kept watchful eyes on William and his shadow alike after that- she couldn't tell that William was also a Ghost-type, but that didn't mean she didn't suspect something amiss here.

Zero, meanwhile (as in the Porygon2, not the Marshadow), had completed its analysis of the situation. It determined that Rose, while in obvious distress, was not in danger. And the reason for the distress was easy enough to discern, given the Marshadow lurking unseen in the man's shadow. Though the man in question was not ruled out altogether, either- Zero's sensors had picked up on distinct Traces of Flash Fire from the supposed human, and while this did more indicate a Fire-type, Zero's databanks contained sufficient information to know that there were a couple of Ghost-types that would fit the bill. In any case, Eddie seemed to be doing a stellar job of calming Rose down, so for now, the Porygon2 kept its eyes focused on William, expression impassive as ever, just watching and waiting to see if it needed to spring into action at all. If it needed to do so, it already had several plans pieced together from its analysis of the data it had collected thus far. All of this happened far more smoothly, too, than it would have done prior to the Upgrade. This caused a... sensation within the Porygon2. Feelings as a whole were foreign to the being of pure programming code up until now, so this caught its attention but good. Was this... gratitude, toward Eddie, for the Upgrade?

Litwick And no one could tell me to settle, yeah, yeah

William watched as the woman continued to have a freakout on seeing him. Certainly not the strangest of things he could've seen today. However, it is most assuredly a site to behold in a cafe. He could notice a few of the other patrons whispering at this.

"Well, I rather not make your partner uncomfortable," William stated curtly, even with Rose reassuring Eddie she'd be fine.

"Still. If you're willing, come," he states, his voice more monotonous. He doesn't even look before giving a beckoning wave.

As he whirls around, Zero gives the Litten a small little wave again before slinking back. It didn't like speaking. The entire thing was too foreign to the Pokemon. William could sense Zero interacting but continued to move forward as if nothing was wrong. He just swirled his drink in his hand as he left the building.

The buzzing of Combee could be heard off in the distance. Distant cries of Hoothoot, who had taken residence in the trees. The trickle of water from the river, and the sounds of Pokemon training. He looked off into the distance and saw his group of starter Pokemon doing their daily drills. He knew Kita enjoyed having the space to train his squadron, and they often disappeared for days at a time on reconnaissance missions.

"Don't mind them, they're just training," William tells Eddie and Rose as they pass the group. There was a river separating both of them.

He then took them up a set of stairs carved into the cliffside. There was a small shrine, and he respectfully bowed to it. It was a memorial to the farmer who owned this place before him. He always paid his respects, even if brief, to this place whenever he passed by it. He could feel a sense of gratitude whenever he did.

"Sorry, this isn't the way to the cave. I just like giving the old man some respect. He had this farm for years and supported the town of Evergreen his entire life. Even if I never met him, I'm doing my best to keep his legacy living on," William tells them, his face a bit more somber then usual. "I'm sure that if he ever had kids, they'd be here in my sted."

He then turns around, and goes down the steps once again. He crosses one of the bridges, and pushes past his greenhouse. He looked towards the right, seeing his large house. Would've just been nice to stay inside and read today. Yet, that's not why he was here. He looked at the cave and called out.

"Tsuchi!" he said in a more excited voice, and a small amount of rumbling could be heard.

The sound of moving earth was heard, and soon something started to slither out of the cave. A large, three-segment Dudunsparce was staring at the group, it looks more plump than average. The other oddity was the color scheme, where it was entirely pink on top, with white accents and underbelly. William looked at Eddie, and whispered.

"Here he is, Tsuchi. He was originally found in Ilex Forest, and my..." he trailed off, trying to find the right words. "Friend had gotten him before leaving him in my care. He's shy."

The Dudunsparce looked up at William, a little intimidated. The Dundunsparce curiously looked at Eddie, Rose, and the rest of their entourage. The fat snake waited patiently, wondering who these people who wished to meet him were.

Rose was not having a good day. Something about this man that she simply could not pinpoint was making her freak out just as badly as if she'd come across a wild Misdreavus or Duskull, and she could overhear whispers from other patrons- they were talking about her, she just knew it. If it hadn't been for Eddie just sitting there and holding her hand firmly throughout it all, she might have fled the coffeehouse entirely by this point (after paying for the drinks and leaving a decent tip, of course), but her boyfriend had her back throughout this, and that was giving her courage in the moment. Then, as William stated that he would rather not make her uncomfortable, Rose found she had the courage to speak up in response. "N-no, no, it's- you're not- I- I don't know what- s-someone must have a Gh-Ghost-type out in here, is all, and- I just- I don't do well with them, but I- I'll be fine," she stammered.

William beckoned for them to come with him, and they stood up to follow, though not before leaving the money for their drinks, and a generous tip on top of that- the triggering of Rose's phobia aside, they really did have a very good time here, enjoyed their coffee, and thought highly of the service. Even Rose wasn't ruling out a return visit, even considering the current circumstances.

That said, as they left, Rose was dismayed to realize that the ghostly aura she seemed to be picking up on was not left behind in the coffeehouse. It was definitely emanating from that man, or at least from around him. Flare, however, walked ahead of Rose, peering occasionally at William's shadow, where she knew the Marshadow to be lurking. Rose observed her Litten's behavior, and relaxed somewhat- it seemed that Flare could likewise sense whatever she was so afraid of, that it was some manner of Ghost-type in the man's shadow, and the fact that the Litten wasn't regarding this unseen apparition with any sort of hostility served to put Rose at ease, at least somewhat. If whatever it was meant her harm, Flare would not be this well-behaved towards it. Indeed, Flare felt a bit of kinship towards the Marshadow- she too was not the biggest on social interaction. The "hello" she gave it would likely have been the extent of her half of the dialogue even if it hadn't slunk back into William's shadow. The exchange of greetings seemed to suffice for them both. Honestly, Flare felt that if Rose could get past her fear of Ghost-types, she might actually quite like this particular Pokémon, it had the air of a real fighter about it. The Litten's own Tera Type was Fighting, and not without reason, so she felt reasonably certain in this assessment.

William led them up a set of stairs carved into the cliffside. Rose felt and looked far more at ease out in the wilderness, even smiling a bit more genuinely as they went. As William stopped to bow at the shrine, he explained that he liked to show respect to the previous owner of the farm- he'd never met the man, but was doing his best to uphold his legacy. "An admirable sentiment," Eddie nodded.

"Yeah, I can't really object to the detour with a reason like that," Rose added. Eddie smiled at her, noticing that she was no longer stammering, and Rose smiled back. The couple likewise bowed to the shrine, feeling it was only right that they pay their respects as well.

Then, after a bit of backtracking and a little further walking, they arrived at a cave. William called out for someone named Tsuchi, and a rumbling sound could be heard. And then, it emerged, a large Three-Segment Dudunsparce, plumper than average, and with a wholly different color scheme- pink on top, with white accents and a white underbelly. "Fascinating," Eddie whispered back. The Dudunsparce was regarding the newcomers curiously.

"Whoa, cool," Rose murmured. "I don't even think Keith's Dudunsparce is that big."

"No, indeed," concurred Eddie. "And Tsuchi here appears to be Three-Segment, as well, the rarer of the two Dudunsparce forms. If the thinking that the tsuchinoko is in fact the progenitor of Dunsparce and Dudunsparce as species, then Tsuchi here might well shed some light on the mystery behind Dudunsparce's forms. That's one thing that, while not quite my field of study, has nevertheless piqued my curiosity- why most Dudunsparce only have two segments, while a rare few will sport three. Two of my friends actually own Dudunsparce of their own- Gavin's is Two-Segment, and Keith's is Three-Segment. It makes me wonder if using a Mist Stone on a Three-Segment Dudunsparce would result in this," he murmured. "The Poké God parallels are there, to be sure..."

"All I know is, he's a cute one," Rose smiled. She had the temptation to run up and hug the large Dudunsparce, but knowing how shy he was said to be, resisted the urge and resisted it well, instead contenting herself with giving Tsuchi a friendly smile. "Nice to meet ya, Tsuchi," she said gently. "I'm Rose, this is Eddie, and these are our Pokémon," she added, indicating the Hawlucha, Hisuian Decidueye, Litten, Porygon2, Klinklang, Pikablu, and Kangaskhan behind them. All of them uttered their own various greetings, with Zero internally taking in every bit of data on Tsuchi it could perceive. Lowercase cooed excitedly, waving at Tsuchi, while Elle gently blocked her daughter from clambering out of her pouch- the mama Kangaskhan could not fail to notice Tsuchi's shyness either, after all.
