Unremarkable except for the ending. (Random Doubles, 11 turns) Match was effectively over beyond possible repair after Turn 9. Guy takes his sweet time to send out his final, half-dead Pokémon that I will one-shot with Psyshock. Then proceeds to pointlessly use Baneful Bunker even though it can do nothing for him. (No passive recovery, no KO via poison, nothing.) Just an utter waste of time, Turn 10 is. Even Turn 11, really. Guy should have forfeited at conclusion of Turn 9.
Why it's remarkable is, his Elo was 1698 going into this match. That would have made him nothing less than 40th place on the current ladder. An impressive rank, and one which just goes to show: Even at the highest rungs of the ladder, you still get sour grapes. ========================================== With this game, I've reached an Elo score of 1616 and am currently ranked 181st on the Random Doubles ladder, a new personal best. ========================================== IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN! Guy who was in 10th place on the ladder insta-ragequit because of a disfavorable matchup out of the gate. What is with such low-ladder behavior coming out of the very top players? Unbelievable. He just fell from 10th to 22nd (still a great rank!) without even so much as trying. Catapulted my alt to an Elo of 1611, so ... on to Alt #3 now, I guess. ========================================== All three alts above 1600 now. Elo of 1620, ladder ranking of 164, new PB.

Huh. So ... apparently Showdown is no longer saving replays indefinitely? Just clicked on some older replays to check them out. They no longer work, and return the error message that you get when someone mistakenly posts a link to the battle room rather than to the battle replay:
" The battle you're looking for has expired. Battles expire after 15 minutes of inactivity unless they're saved.I can still view uploads as recently made as September 29 just fine. But replays two weeks old are gone. For reference's sake, here is a brand new replay upload. We'll see how long it lasts. Side note: the message is so old, there isn't even a "Save Replay" option anymore. It's either "Upload and share replay" (which is what we always use to save the replay to Showdown's server for sharing here) or else it's "Download replay" to download the replay file to your hard drive.

That's actually really disappointing. I had some replays saved going back five years and they're just gone now.
Update: actually logged into PS! for the first time in forever and according to a driver in the help room, there was a problem with the replay server and all the old replays will be reuploaded ASAP. All replays have been recovered, it's just a matter of uploading them. Yay!

I was also kind of surprised by it since my understanding is that the replay files are hilariously small to the Showdown team. I just saved one to see, and it looks like as HTML files they are just shy of 50 kilobytes. If you assume that 100,000 replays are saved to the server daily, that would come out to 47.7 GB annually. Seems rather large to me. If, on the other hand, you assume that people are generally more responsible (and don't bother saving replays unless they're really spectacular battles or unless they have need to share them with friends at a later place and time; I'd say I mostly use it for that second one), and you reduce the number from 100,000 to just 5,000, then it comes out to the more manageable 2.38 GB/yr. That's still a lot of data to house for free imo, but maybe there's compression and other things that are done when Zarel houses it server-side. Maybe it's not even HTML until you elect to download it to your own hard drive. Maybe it's a much tinier text file that's only 1 KB or smaller. *shrug* Now I'm actually rather curious. Do you know more about this, phoopes?

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE QUIT! (Random Singles, 15 turns)
A combination of factors culminates towards a most inevitable end. ^^;; If you don't have patience to watch the entire thing (though I do quite recommend it for the full effect!), then start watching from Turn 10.

This one has me imagining a beautiful friendship between an Excadrill and the Lilligant who is his support. (Random Doubles, 7 turns)
Aside: I expected Drill Run to do a lot more to Groudon, forgetting Groudon is not ordinarily part Fire (though it should be!) because ORAS has gotten me accustomed to thinking of Groudon not as mistyped mono-Ground but as correctly-typed Ground/Fire. Guh. Kinda weird to be making this error after all these years. Current Elo: 1633 Current ladder position: 137 New PB

My turn to take Spectral Thief out for a stat-stealing test spin. (Random Singles, 13 turns)

The most awesome Vespiquen ever? Probably not -- but she still contributed surprisingly much. (Random Singles, 14 turns)

Question about something that completely fucked me in a Random Battle just now. I had a Kartana out, with a speed stat of 207. He had a Houndoom out, with a reported maximum possible speed stat of 188. So I decided to stay in, as I was at 2.5x Attack and had Sacred Sword. He also decided to stay in, mega evolved into Mega Houndoom, used Fire Blast ... and went before me, OHKOing me. Why did he get to go first? He clearly wasn't Choice Scarfed. Have the mechanics changed with mega evolution speed? Previously (and, as far as I knew, always!), your move's priority is locked in before you actually mega evolve and get your mega speed boost. Assuming that hasn't changed, and given no Choice Scarf, and given Fire Blast has the same priority as Sacred Sword, and given 207 is a bigger number than 188 ... I have absolutely no idea why he got to go first.

According to Serebii, the turn order is now determined by the Mega Evolved state's Speed rather than the base form's in order to make sense with how Mega Evolution itself is now a high-priority occurrence. Guess you just never been in a situation where that detail was actually significant before, huh?

@Talon: As Median said, turn order is now determined AFTER Mega Evolution, so Sableye can't throw out a Prankster whatever the fuck the turn it Mega Evolves, whereas Nega Banette can actually immediately reap the benefits. Also, it makes Mega Beedrill not need to run Protect to survive the process.

I seem to remember us being on similar pages ...
Hope all is well. I am considering making a competitive team for VGC 2018 this winter. I might have to push it back to the spring, but at the very least I'd like to have something to use at tournaments and I'd like to attend a couple just to have some fun with fellow human beings so passionate about Pokémon.
