With that in mind, Jayson recalled Spartacus and Trieu and with the intentions of taking them to a ranger’s cabin in the southern plains in order to rest and heal up. With the two bug Pokemon back in their Pokeballs, Jayson replaced them with a pair of Pokemon from the Alola region, Atalanta the Dartrix and Boudica the Mudsdale.

With instructions for Atalanta to scout the trail ahead, Jayson mounted Boudica’s broad back and the group set off down the forest trail. The leafy owl glided through the forest, stopping every now and then on a tree branch to wait for the behemoth of a horse to catch up. As the megaton Mudsdale walked through the wooded trail, her massive hoof prints shook the earth and the corresponding thudding sounds seemed to scare off any local wildlife. Eventually Jayson and Boudica caught up to Atalanta, finding the owl perched on a white signpost that was erected at a fork in the trail.

It wasn’t hard for Jayson to determine which direction they needed to head next; there was an arrow facing south, pointing down the path labeled “Galea Plains.” The three of them turned in that direction and were promptly on their way. From there, it was a short walk through the woods as the trees gradually thinned out.
Once they emerged through the wall of trees, what lay before them was an endless stretch of meadows and hills, with a few scattered trees providing rare oases of shade.

Looking around, another signpost was kind enough to show them the way, pointing southwest to read “Ranger’s Cabin.” Sure enough, on the horizon, Jayson could spot a roof hiding behind a hill with a chimney sticking out of it. Boudica began to trot down the slope while Atalanda glided alongside her, and Jayson began to feel ever thankful for having such a reliable land mount to make the journey that much quicker. Upon arrival at the cabin, Jayson dismounted Boudica and thanked her for her work before returning his Pokemon into their balls and heading inside.

The inside of the cabin was a neat and organized furnishing, ranging from easy to use Pokemon healer machines to PC transfer units to beds and a fully stocked kitchenette for resting and eating. There was no one around, as the ranger was most likely making their rounds around the area, other than a lone Hoothoot, who perched by the ranger’s desk and watched Jayson’s every move. The healer machine was pretty straightforward for Jayson to use as he placed his fatigued Pokemons’ Pokeballs on it and pressed the button. While he waited for it to finish, he had time to fix himself a light snack or contemplate his strategy going forward. Additionally, if he needed to switch any Pokemon out at the PC, now was his chance. As the healer machine finished its duty with a “ding” it was now up to Jayson to set his next course of action. (Please reply in lightgreen)
Jayson treated himself to a quick meal while his Pokemon were in the healing machine. Thankfully it didn't take them too long to find the ranger's cabin, they would still have plenty of time to make it to the trial. Gary hadn't told him much about it, he had merely given him a quick outline. The challenge involved cutting through a log, first one to finish won. Jayson had the perfect cutter at this disposal, Spartacus would surely make quick work of the log. It wasn't that simple though, Gary had told him that while one Pokemon cut, two others would defend their cutter while trying to disrupt the opponent. When it came to offense, Jayson was inclined to place his trust in Atalanta, the Dartrix had a deep movepool that would allow her to apply a lot of pressure of their opponents. Defensively his best option was Odysseus the Magnemite. The Electric type had status moves and access to a couple of handy tricks, hopefully Jayson could make use of them to protect Spartacus and disrupt the opposing cutter.

Jayson heard a ding as the healing machine finished up, he went over and collected his Pokemon. He released Spartacus, Atalanta and Odysseus from their Pokeballs, the crew settled down as Jayson discussed with them what they were about to do. After having a quick chat with his team, Jayson decided it was time to head out. They exited the ranger's cabin and Jayson released Boudicca from her Pokeball once more. Mounting the Mudsdale, Jayson instructed the trio to fly out ahead."We're heading back to the forest now team, fan out and keep your eyes open for signs of a cabin, that is where we should find the trial leader." The journey to the trial would help his Pokemon warm up, Jayson got Boudicca moving with a nudge of his boot while the Scyther, Dartrix and Magnemite flew a few metres ahead of them.

Chroma – You begin by throwing an empty Potion bottle you had found at Persimmon out of frustration. At that exact moment, Persimmon dropped the crumpled paper he was reading and bent down in order to pick it up, which caused the bottle to fly directly over him and tumble off the other side of the stage. He stood back up and continued to read his notes while slowly stepping down from the stage without having noticed a thing. After that, you go to your first game which is the Grip Test. Your Tangrowth knows exactly what to do and goes right up to the bar and wraps it with its long vines then uses Constrict with all of its might! Eventually, a little bell goes off indicating that it’s the end of the test and looking at the score it seems like Berue got a score of 88/100! The ticket dispenser begins to dispense tickets and you grab them all as it ends, looks like you got 35 tickets from this game.

Next up is the Test of Strength game where it’s time for your Tangrowth to show how strong she is. Berue walks up and stands next to the platform, staring at it for a moment. Then she begins to perform a perfect Swords Dance in order to pump herself up for this test. With her attack stat now raised, this is the moment where she would normally hit the platform, but without a mallet she doesn’t really have anything to hit it with so instead, she just jumps onto the platform which causes the little ball to raise a bit but unfortunately, not much. The ticket dispenser gives you 8 tickets for this game. From here, you move onto the Haunted House which you both seem to be pretty excited about. Once the plan is in place, Berue heads inside and finds a place next to a few plants and waits for people to begin walking through. As the first group approaches, Berue gets excited and leaps out from her hiding place and begins to give the best Frenzy Plant she can manage. She may have been a bit too enthusiastic about it however, because now there are so many vines all over the place that everyone is certainly freaked out but they are also tripping every which way. After realizing that several people have fallen over, Berue retracts her vines and makes her way back outside where tickets are now being dispensed. You collect a total of 10 tickets from this game.
The end results of the little carnival were... incredibly lackluster, to say the least. Chroma couldn't see what all had happened, of course, but it sure felt like some sort of cosmic force was twisting things away from the tangrowth's Careful nature. Well, whatever the reality of the situation may be, there was no denying that the crummy results pretty much annihilated whatever remained of the pair's morale- it was very clear at this point that Tsareena wasn't going to win, and that did little to put the mystic's anxious mind at ease... On the plus side, 53 tickets were better than none at all?

It was a nice complement to all of the pinks, reds, and blues that decorated the flowerbeds across the area. As the contestants finished up their carnival games and collected their tickets, they gathered back in the center where they found the gazebo had been transformed to accommodate a stage. The generators from the Charge-Up Game were ready to go and with a flip of a switch, a myriad of lights shown down from the gazebo’s rafters. While most of the contestants pooled their tickets together and handed them in to their team representatives, there was a growing line for the bathroom which had caused some of the contestants to miss their turn in the final round of games as Elka had yet to come back out.

Once everyone had settled down, the four gardeners took the stage once again, where Persimmon walked back up to the mic. Before he could even begin speaking, volunteers made their way through the crowd to collect any trash or recycling. Persimmon cleared his throat and fumbled through some notes he pulled out of his pocket. Squinting at the crumpled piece of paper, he addressed the audience, “Thank you all for participating in the fun and games portion of our event. Your tickets have been tallied, and now it’s time to announce the winner of the carnival games and to prepare everyone for the final portion of our event. The winner of the carnival games was decided by whoever brought in the most tickets for each team. Now, without further ado, let’s announce the winners! Please step forward as your name is called.”

“In fourth place, representing Team Bellossom, we have Jess and Lilac with 108 points! In third place, we have Alice and Farren for Team Tsareena with 114 points! In second place, we have Rorik and Staryu—” Persimmon was abruptly cut off as Petunia whispered something into his ear, “Excuse me, Rorik and Stahl representing Team Lilligant with 116 points! And last but not least, our winner from Team Roserade is Drew and Rotom, with 118 points! Let’s give our finalists a round of applause!”

As the audience applauded the contestants, the leaderboard was updated to show the standing scores of the event.

For all of their efforts during the Scavenger Hunts and the Carnival Games, the following Pokemon are awarded levels:
2 levels: Jotaro the Lombre, Berue the Tangrowth

Here are the current standings of the event:
First Place: Team Lilligant with 7 Team Points and 8 Individual Performance Points
Second Place: Team Roserade with 6 Team Points and 5 Individual Performance Points
Third Place: Team Bellossom with 3 Team Points and 5 Individual Performance Points
Fourth Place: Team Tsareena with 5 Team Points and 2 Individual Performance Points

“Do not fret as there will be another chance to earn your team some big points!” Persimmon called out as volunteer gardeners stepped forward holding duffel bags filled with items. “It’s time for the final round of the event! I will hand the mic over to Peony in a moment to explain the details, and as she goes over them with you, we will be handing out the fruits of your labor during the Scavenger Hunt exercise! The quality of the item depends on whether your riddles took you in the right direction or not. Your items will be shared amongst your teammates, so I wish you the best of luck in the final round!”

The following teams are handed the corresponding items:

Team Tsareena Receives:
Chroma: Gorgeous Flower, Fluffy Beard, Smiley-Face Mask, Thick Book, Professor Hat
Alice: Whisk, Striped Barrette, Magic Wand, Maraca, Witchy Hat
Leftovers: Toy Fishing Rod, Blue Barrette, Round Button, Small Barrette, Square Glasses
"Looks like we weren't the worst scorers," Chroma muttered as everyone reconvened at the stage, trying to find some form of solace about the whole scenario. Berue shook her head and, seeing as her presence here was no longer needed, recalled herself into her premier ball. "Gee, thanks for the reassurance..." The warrior looked up as the final results for this tragic round were officially tallied and a previously hidden scoring system was revealed... in which Team Unique got second in somehow? That didn't make much sense, but now was hardly the time to question it.

*Berue was elevated from Lv. 26 to Lv. 28!*
*Berue lerned Knock Off!*

Turns out the final round was some sort of dress up competition. That wasn't particularly helpful for morale, either- she hadn't had the time to do such superficial things in her youth, and never thought of it beyond that time, so Chroma had next to no idea what she was doing. She sighed as she sifted through the pile of junk she and the Alice chick had been handed. "I don't recall seeing a square cap or disembodied facial hair during the last phase..."

She called out her mawile and explained what little of a plan she could come up with, and was met with instant stubborn rejection. After a few minutes of pixie wrangling, Chroma was finally able to attach the first prop and get her pokemon to accept her fate.

There wasn't much time to spare by the time everything was set up to the trainer's initial idea, which was only made possible by the power of tape. Louise the mawile was sanding frustratedly with a Toy Fishing Rod in one hand, looking about ready to snap it over someone's head if they so much as looked at her funny- which they were likely to do, considering what was on the back of her horn. The usual beige spot had been covered up by a Smiley-Face Mask, which in turn had a White Beard taped onto it. Upon her head sat the Thick Book, which was clearly trying to usurp the normal headgear's place. And to add to the weirdness, she had a Maraca taped just beneath the beard's end, hoping that it was successfully pretending to be a tie despite its noisy predisposition. Needless to say, the Deceiver Pokemon was hardly pleased with this getup- she had to be the only trainer-owned mawile in the world who had to deal with this kind of indignity!

Melissa – Despite not having as many moves as some of the other Pokemon here, there were still several games that Vine could excel at. You both walk over to the Shooting Gallery and are greeted by a smiling volunteer with a button in their hand. As soon as you both get over there, they press the button which causes the music to start playing and the Psyduck’s to start moving. Vine doesn’t even need to concentrate, he knows that his leaves will do all the work for him and so, he doesn’t wait and sends off his Magical Leaves to do their job. And that is what they do, each leaf perfectly hits every single Psyduck as well as the few Ducklett that make their way into view. In the end, the tickets are dispensed and you collect a total of 40 tickets!

Once you both finish up with that game, it takes some thinking before you can decide on what to do next. The Dunk Tank and Blow the Sailboat game both don’t feel quite right so in the end you settle on the Grip Test and Milk Bottles games. Vine goes over to the Grip Test first and uses his strongest Wrap on the metal bar, it’s clear he isn’t going to let go of that bar until he reaches the best possible score. Eventually, a bell goes off to signal the games end and a score is displayed at 100/100 points! Vine’s super strong grip managed to hit the jackpot in this one and the tickets poured out of the nearby machine, rewarding you with another 40 tickets! Now it’s time for the last game which for you two is going to be the Milk Bottle game. You and Vine approach the game and it appears to be easy, just a bunch of regular looking milk bottles that probably aren’t that hard to knock over. Vine is feeling a bit overconfident after getting perfect scores on both of the previous games and so he runs up to these bottles and smacks into them hard with his Iron Tail. When his tail makes contact, it’s almost like smashing into a steel wall, what on earth are these bottles made out of!? The bottles his tail hit only slowly begin to fall over after a moment of pause after impact. In the end, only a few of the bottles end up falling over and the tickets are dispensed for Vine’s work immediately. This time, you collect 18 more tickets!

Stay tuned for more details...

Makeshift signs floated throughout the audience, pledging their loyalty to their favorite Queen. The throng of people talked in excited, hushed voices.

Persimmon finishes addressing the crowd, and gives a short wave. There are scattered cheers throughout the audience, and the scientist looks uncomfortable. “Um… I’m gonna hand it over to Peony now…” He shuffles away and hands the mic to his much more socially confident co-gardener.

“Hiii!” As the pink haired girl takes center stage, a spotlight focuses on her. Smaller, colored lights dance around the stage. “Ooh! Thanks for charging up all these lights for us. Anyway, it’s time for THE most exciting part of our program today! A BEAUTY PAGEANT!” The steady beat of dance music starts up and the spotlight moves to the edge of the stage where a cluster of grass Pokemon are standing. They look startled, but file onto stage in groups based on their garden alignments. Signs light up above the four sections of the stage, “COOL” “CUTE” “UNIQUE” and “ELEGANT” in different corresponding fonts.

“We calculated your points from the scavenger hunt, and rewarded you with different items to use during this part of the competition,” Peony explains. “Here are the representatives from Roserade’s domain, Team Cool!” She gestures to the first section of the stage, and the members of Team Cool are suddenly pulled up staircase and on to the brightly lit stage. Three well-groomed Roselia strike stylish poses to the beat in front of the group, and blue lights circle around them. The Thorn Pokemon point to three wicker baskets holding several items. Each basket has a metal nameplate attached to the front.

“From Bellossom’s domain, Team Cute!” continues Peony as she points to the next section of the stage, which is now lit up in pink. The team is also escorted up and encouraged by the garden volunteers to smile. Two Sunflora and an Oddish perform a short, choreographed dance, finishing with a wink at the audience. They stop in cute poses next to three baskets tied up with pink ribbon.
The basket labelled “Jess” contains a red and gold Big Barette, a neatly tied Crimson Scarf, a stylish pink Purse, a set of White Wings, and a folded Red Parasol.
In the basket labelled “Melissa” there is a delicate Blue Flower, a blue Headband with a white bow, a small Pink Barette, a pair of White Pom Poms, and a wasit length Frilly Apron.
The basket with Hiero’s name on it has a Candy in a pink and blue wrapper, a golden Wind Up Key, a wrapped Gift Box, a Red Nose befitting a Popplio, and a red and yellow Pennant.
The crowd whoops and cheers with the introduction of each team, and some trainers even hear their names called out. Peony giggles into the mic and flips her hair, she’s obviously enjoying that the spotlight has returned to her.

“Ok folks, the teams are going to take some time to get ready. Make sure to cheer really loudly for your favorites!” The lights dance around the stage once more, then stop and fade off. The crowd cheers and yells out the names of different teams and their Queens. Each group is escorted behind the stage to a section dubbed the “Greenery Room”. In reality, it was still outdoors, and tables were set up with each team’s different items, as well as some full-length mirrors with vanity lights.

“Mmkay everyone,” Peony addresses the teams, sitting on a stool in the front of the Greenery Room. “I’m gonna like, explain the rules for this part ok? All of those lovely items you were given are for you to dress your Pokemon up with. You can use up to five, ‘kay? You can totally share the stuff you have too, within your own team of course. Take the time you need to get ready, but not like, too long, duh.” She hops off the stool and gives you all a peace sign.

Rules
Choose one Pokemon that you will dress up for this portion of the pageant.
Choose up to five (5) items to dress up your Pokemon with.
You can use any item allocated to your Team, multiple trainers can use the same item.
Keep in mind that you will be judged on several different criteria, be creative and have fun picking out different items for your Pokemon to wear!

Vine cleaned up the Shooting Gallery just fine, hitting every Psyduck easily with his Magical Leaves' homing ability. They earned a good 40 tickets and moved on to the Grip Test, where Vine Wrapped the metal bar and squeezed until they earned another 40 tickets. The pair then challenged the Milk Bottle game and Vine hit the bottles with his Iron Tail. Which...didn't do as much as Melissa had expected. Vine shook out his tail with a wince, while Melissa watched only a few of the bottles fall. They earned only 18 tickets for Vine's efforts.

"Huh," Melissa said as they began wandering back to Peony, Vine trotting alongside her. "That didn't turn out as well as I thought it would."

Vine nodded sharply, glancing back at the milk bottles with disgruntlement. He then waved his tail back and forth like a fan, quick enough to create a weak breeze, and looked up at Melissa.

She nodded. "Yeah. Might've been a better idea to go for the sailboat one with Leaf Tornado or Twister. At least those would've been more appropriate, even if we probably would've made a mess of the game."

They turned in their tickets to Peony soon after and waited for the next announcement, Melissa helping Vine up to her shoulder to give him a more interesting view. When one of the other gardeners listed off Jess from their team as one of the top four, she congratulated the other girl with a grin. That grin faltered a bit when Melissa spotted where exactly their team was in the standings, but she quickly shrugged it off.

(Vine goes from Lv. 18 to 23.)

Peony took over for the other gardener and she declared the next event to be a beauty pageant. Melissa...was at a bit of a loss, contests and costume design not really being much of a focus for her, but she gamely listened as the accessories were distributed and the teams lead to, what she assumed was, the dressing room. While Peony explained the rules, Melissa looked over what her team had managed to get, trying to figure out what might qualify for a "cute" costume.

She was definitely switching Vine out for Fawn, partly because Fawn was definitively cuter than Vine, but mostly because she didn't think Vine would suffer being dressed up very well. And Cirrus...well, she didn't think the available accessories would work very well for Cirrus.

The moment they were free to prepare, she nodded her thanks to Vine and returned him, calling Fawn out in the same moment. Her Skiddo materialized with a shake of her head, blinking curiously at the setup.

"Apparently, we're doing a beauty pageant for this round," she told Fawn, who tilted her head to one side with a series of questioning baa's.

"Yes, I know," Melissa replied dryly. "Which is why I'm not expecting to do very well here, but"--she shrugged--"it doesn't hurt to try, right?"

Fawn bobbed her head a few times, stepping forward to investigate the accessories as Melissa borrowed her teammate's Crimson Scarf. She wrapped it around her Skiddo's neck and then hesitated.

"Blue flower or pink barrette?" she asked, plucking the two accessories from her basket and holding them out to Fawn. "To put behind your ear."

Fawn flicked her left ear and eyed the offered accessories, glancing from one to the other. She eventually settled on the Blue Flower and Melissa tucked it behind Fawn's left ear, returning the pink barrette to the basket.

"Try not to flick your ears, okay?" Melissa said absently, considering the rest of the accessories. Fawn snorted and then shifted, trying to distract herself so as not to reflexively flick her ears now that Melissa had pointed that out.

Snapping her fingers as an idea came to her, Melissa grabbed the White Wings and the Gift Box, fixing the former to Fawn's shoulders and holding on to the latter.

"Okay. Whaddya think of this." She shook the Gift Box once to attract attention to it. "Can you pretend to be like one of those cherubs, shyly bringing a gift to someone? You know, like a stereotypical teenager with their first crush? On Valentine's?" Fawn tilted her head to one side, curious but thoughtful. "Just carry the Gift Box out and set it down with a duck of your head, looking up at the audience with big, hopeful eyes." Melissa paused for a moment and then looked a bit sheepish. "Or something like that."

Fawn nodded slowly, still somewhat thoughtful but looking more confident about the idea once Melissa had explained it.

"Alright. Here's hoping we do alright." Melissa crossed her fingers and shared a lopsided grin with Fawn.

Signal wanted to do things right this time and had paid attention to the boys commands because he has prepared himself this time. Papi begins to use Supersonic and the sound waves are aimed perfect at Signal, there is no way the attack will fail if it hits. Fortunately, Signal makes sure that doesn’t happen moves out of the way just in time. Scyther on the other hand has no intention of missing his target and lunges forward, prepared to strike with double Slashes on Signal. The moment Scyther’s blade begins to make contact with him, he lets off a Charge Beam which is even more powerful than normal because not only is Scyther now weak to electric, he is also only inches away from the attacks source. The Slash only manages to barely scrape Signal before Scyther is blown away and electrocuted. The Scyther begins to shake on unsteady legs and Signal is just about to use Shock Wave but then, Scyther completely drops which would make the move useless. (Signal gains 2 levels!)

“What!? Scyther!!” One thing that is clear by the boys reaction is that he does have a heart in there somewhere because it’s clear that he is pretty worried about Scyther as he runs onto the field of battle in order to check on his Pokemon. Meanwhile, Wildfire went to use his first Nature Power and the attack caused him to use the energy around him to create an Energy Ball that he launched right at Papi who wasn’t paying attention because he was still stuck on the fact that his attack on Signal didn’t work. The attack hits the Palpitoad hard and it’s definitely super effective, looks like you’ve made a good choice. (Wildfire gains 1 level!) Now that Papi’s attention has been brought back over to Wildfire he remembers his second move and begins to hit Wildfire with Muddy Water and hits him perfectly while also lowering his accuracy. Wildfire shoots off his second Energy Ball however, the mud in his eyes causes the attack to fly right over Papi’s head. Wildfire appears to be struggling at this point, the two water attacks seem to be taking their toll. Papi was definitely very hurt by the first grass attack but his Aqua Ring healed him a little bit at least, and he seems to still have a decent amount of fight left.

“Damnit!!!” The boy returns Scyther to a pokeball and looks at you with pure disdain. “Do you even understand what you’ve done!? Scyther already felt like a failure after failing that stupid trial and now you’ve gone and knocked him out!” All of the Pokemon on the field are standing still as the boy expresses what he’s feeling since no one is sure what they should be doing at a time like this. “You asked me earlier why I’m doing this, well how about I tell you the real answer after your own Pokemon get to feel what it’s like to fail? Papi!!” You didn’t have time to even react and neither did your Pokemon, it all happened so fast it was as if that Palpitoad had read his trainers mind. Before any of you had any type of chance to stop it, Papi shot Wildfire with a powerful Bubble Beam and that was the last hit the little Cyndaquil could take before also falling over completely knocked out. “Alright, now that we’re on the same page, I’ll tell you because at least now you can feel some of my pain.” The boy is clearly very satisfied with what just happened to Wildfire as he continues. “I’m doing this because Scyther took on the trial here in the forest and lost, after that he was very down on himself for days so we tried again and he failed the second time as well. I didn’t want him to continue to feel like a failure so I wanted to show him that it doesn’t matter, the only reason I want to go higher up this mountain is to visit the Burnt Forest. And well, why should I have to go up there to see it when I can easily just create the same place down here? It’s genius!” The boy has a look of pure confidence as he explains his story. It’s clear that he cares about his Pokemon for the most part but is generally pretty selfish and twisted outside of that. “Welp, let’s wrap this up, Papi. Go ahead and cause an Uproar to take out that Chinchou so we can get out of here.” He then turns to you. “Let’s see if you can beat Papi fair and square, shall we?”
Signal, thankfully, managed to dodge the Supersonic the Palpitoad tried to hit him with and blasted the Scyther with a point-blank Charge Beam. It barely managed to scratch him with its Slash before being thrown away and quickly went down without Signal needing to follow up with a Shock Wave.

(Signal goes from Lv. 19 to 21.)

"What!? Scyther!!" Oh, so the kid did care about the Scyther. He ran onto the battlefield to check on the Scyther as Wildfire landed an Energy Ball on the Palpitoad. Melissa grinned at the hit, but then winced as the Muddy Water splashed over her starter, causing him to miss his next attack. That Palpitoad was definitely a problem, one she could now focus on with the Scyther out of the way.

(Wildfire goes from Lv. 53 to 54.)

"Damnit!!!" Melissa glanced over at the kid as he returned his Scyther, matching his disdain with a raised eyebrow. "Do you even understand what you've done!? Scyther already felt like a failure after failing that stupid trial and now you've gone and knocked him out!" Melissa blinked at the kid, glancing over at the battle that had paused as the kid got whatever was on his chest off it. Well...at least he was talking about it...? "You asked me earlier why I'm doing this, well how about I tell you the real answer after your own Pokemon get to feel what it's like to fail? Papi!!"

Whatever the kid wanted his Pokémon to do, it already knew and shot a Bubblebeam at Wildfire. Her starter was caught off guard and bowled over, passing out after one hit too many. Melissa grimaced, returning him with a silent apology, while Signal blinked 'alarm.' She seriously needed to actually stock up on post-battle recovery items. Five years and she still disregarded them as necessary.

"Alright, now that we're on the same page, I'll tell you because at least now you can feel some of my pain." He sounded very satisfied with taking out Wildfire. "I'm doing this because Scyther took on the trial here in the forest and lost, after that he was very down on himself for days so we tried again and he failed the second time as well. I didn't want him to continue to feel like a failure so I wanted to show him that it doesn't matter, the only reason I want to go higher up this mountain is to visit the Burnt Forest. And well, why should I have to go up there to see it when I can easily just create the same place down here? It's genius!" Melissa was not impressed.

"Welp, let's wrap this up, Papi. Go ahead and cause an Uproar to take out that Chinchou so we can get out of here. Let's see if you can beat Papi fair and square, shall we?"

"...let's," she replied under her breath, hoping her face was clear of the irritation his words had caused her. "Signal? Sucker Punch, Double Team, Psybeam."

If that didn't put it down, she was trying Soak again, just so she could slam it with a Charge Beam.

“And here’s the group from Tsareena’s domain, Team Unique!” Peony gestures to the other side of the stage where three boxes have been placed. Each member of the team is instructed to stand behind the box with their name on it. There is a drop in the music, and suddenly three Bounsweet pop out and twirl into the air. The Alolan Pokemon present the contents of each box.
The box with the label “Chroma” has a red and gold Gorgeous Flower, a white Fluffy Beard, a plastic Smiley Face Mask, a Thick Book with a red cover, and a scholarly Professor Hat.
The box with Alice’s name written on it contains a wire Whisk, a green Striped Barette, a wooden Magic Wand, a set of Maracas, and a black, pointed Witchy Hat.
In the third box,” there is a Toy Fishing Rod with a Pokeball lure, a bright Blue Barette, a small blue Round Button, an orange Small Barette, and a pair of Square Glasses.

4 levels: Because Farren the Pineco is lv.100, Alice is awarded 4 Rare Candies

Team Tsareena Receives:
Chroma: Gorgeous Flower, Fluffy Beard, Smiley-Face Mask, Thick Book, Professor Hat
Alice: Whisk, Striped Barrette, Magic Wand, Maraca, Witchy Hat
Leftovers: Toy Fishing Rod, Blue Barrette, Round Button, Small Barrette, Square Glasses
Alice was relieved when it was Peony who took to the stage instead of their own team leader. She definitely had more charisma and comfort in the spotlight, and the audience was responding to her far better. She praised her Pokemon for his brilliant performance, kissing the bagworm's little pines, and he was delighted to see that their work had paid off. Not only that, but he and everyone else who knew Alice knew that she loved rare candies, so Farren was sure that in spite of their team's placement, Alice would still be pleased. Indeed she was, but there was sourness towards their last place. Of course it was down to having a team member missing, but the trainer was pissed off about it, even if that was the best excuse for losing than any other. At least they didn't suck.

The beauty pageant was pretty quirky and exciting. It was nostalgic of the games she played where dressing up Pokemon for appeals helped secure victory, and as Alice hadn't discovered any contests to enter, she was naturally looking forward to it. The rules were straightforward but the items weren't, especially as the bug had been replaced by a vibrant pink fire-bird for the appeal round. "... Alrighty. Let's see what we got here, Blaze." Alice said, her Pokemon chirping from his perch on the dressing table top. She fluffed his cheeks with affection that, once upon a time, the Torchic had struggled ever to obtain. Her chronic fear of fire really was something else. Dainty hands went through the props that she and Chroma shared, blue eyes shining with focus through her glasses.

"Okay, little man, methinks Alice has a plan~" The 'designer' declared, and Blaze chirped his cheers, little wings flapping with encouragement. Chanting a silly little song, that was part-compliments and part-commentary, Alice set the blue barette round the contestant's neck and fixed the blue button to it; square glasses set on his nose and secured at the sides to avoid it falling off. After that, she gave him the witch's hat, and instructed him to carry the maraca in his mouth. "Give this a shake in the time of the music, okay?" Alice whispered, "And when you get to the end of the catwalk, do a little dance with it, but be careful of your hat and glasses. With a unique charm and appeal like that, I know we can't lose!"

Or so she hoped. People had been cheering for her earlier, so they had some support to bank on anyway, right?

The Pokemon immediately stopped ramming into the cabin and turned toward Axel with curiosity. It was the first time the poor Skiddo was able to clearly hear something for quite some time now. Axel began to make an attempt at removing the sludge from the Skiddo’s ears but it seemed to be lodged in there pretty good, he wasn’t about to give up though. The Skiddo would occasionally quiver because the sludge moving around was tickling its ears. While Axel is doing that, you open up the cabin door and call for Ivan, who jumps out of his seat out, excited that you have returned for him. Then you proceed to explain the situation and his excitement vanishes knowing that you didn’t return for him specifically, it was only because he was the only one around to help. Oh well, it’s his duty to help regardless, he is a ranger and there is a Pokemon in need after all.

He runs around his desk and out the door, noticing that the Skiddo is the most calm he has seen it. “Wow, I’m glad you stopped by! This poor guy would have had to suffer for much longer had you not. I hadn’t noticed that black stuff before at all.” He reaches for a Net Ball that was attached to his belt and tosses it out in front of him, releasing a Wartortle. He then kneels down in order to be on the same level with his Pokemon. “Hey there Franklin. Could you do that Skiddo a huge favor and very gently use your Water Gun to help loosen up that goop in its ears so that the Abra over there can pull it out?” Franklin smiles and nods then turns around, approaching the Skiddo. Axel was listening in and told the Skiddo about the plan so it had already lowered its head and tightly shut its eyes in order to brace itself and prepare for the water. Franklin and Axel make a good team in this situation and after a little bit of work, the sludge is finally free from the left ear and it doesn’t take long for it to be the same for the right ear as well. Once that’s done, Franklin also shoots the Water Gun at its hooves in order to get that last bit of sludge off. The Skiddo is now completely clean and begins to buck around in a celebratory way. Once it settles back down, Ivan approaches it and rubs its head. “I’m sorry I didn’t help you sooner, I would have had I known.” The Skiddo just nudges his hand as if to say it’s alright. Now that the mess is taken care of, Ivan speaks to you about something else you had mentioned earlier. “Now, about that mess in the grass you mentioned, where exactly–!”

Ivan is cut off as the Skiddo charges up and carefully headbutts you in such a way that doesn’t hurt but completely knocks you onto its back and then begins to take off running! “Ah!! Sorry about this Alice!!! I think it wants to show you something!! I can’t leave but I’ll…” Ivan’s voice fades in the distance as you’re carried away. Axel has teleported to you and is also along for the ride at this point. Eventually, Skiddo stops dead its tracks which ultimately causes you to fly off its back since you weren’t exactly secure in the first place. After you manage standing back up you can see the fear in the Skiddo’s eyes but don’t see anything but a hill in front of you, so you climb the hill. You are surprised at what you can see now. There is Sludge nearly everywhere with the exception of what seems to be a path that was intentionally left for walking through. The Trubbish seem to have no problem bouncing around in the Sludge but there are also two men, both wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, over there too so the path must be for them. They are currently loading something into a small cart that is attached to a Mudbray. Eventually one of them moves out of the way and you can see it, the thing they are loading onto the cart is actually a Pokemon, and that Pokemon is Furfrou!! She is covered in the Sludge and doesn’t appear to be struggling. Suddenly they begin to speak. “This one looks a bit familiar, like I’ve seen it somewhere before…” The one man says to his partner. “I don’t think I have but it doesn’t matter either way. Load it up already.” The other responds. “I know, I am.” They finish putting Furfrou on the cart and the one man walks up and pets the Mudbray. “Let’s go boy, we need to grab the next one. Make sure you follow us you two! We’ll come back over here later.” He gets the Trubbish’s attention and both men, plus their three Pokemon and Furfrou in a cart, begin to move away from the area.
When Franklin the Wartortle appeared, Alice practically squealed. She had yet to see one up close, and it was just as adorable and cool looking as one could expect. She just wanted to go over and pet it, to fluff the ears; and as he and Axel worked in tandem, Alice 'ooh'd and 'ahh'd in admiration. If she was still in this world twenty years from now, Alice was sure she'd feel the same excitement and adoration for Pokemon as she did now.

The Skiddo's little hops were charming, too, and she was touched to see that its disposition altered into something much softer once he felt better. "Oh, bless." The trainer cooed, moving to praise her psychic for a job well done. Blue eyes shifted to Ivan when the ranger finally addressed her, only for the goat to literally take her off her feet. There came the bad language train, basically leaving the station.

Through her screaming string of curses, Alice managed to grip onto the Pokemon's leafy mane for dear life, swung awkwardly over its back. When Axel joined them, he was able to help, far more balanced, but the momentum of the creature meant that it was too little, too late. Alice went overhead, rolling over the terrain, temporarily winded. Axel checked over her immediately, providing support as he floated for the blonde to pick herself up with.

"You could have just killed me." The trainer addressed frankly, but jolts from her Pokemon made the young woman take pause. The Skiddo looked terrified, and the aching lady followed its gaze up the hill. "Oh. I see. Right, I got it. There are better ways of handling things, though, yeah? We have a translator. Let's go up, then, Axel. You know the drill." Yes, he did. Hand in hand, the Pokemon half-dragged his charge up the hill, and they stopped short at the summit. Alice's jaw dropped. Now she knew the source of the smell that she had been complaining of earlier.

"Fucking hell, this place is an actual mess." Alice remarked. The ones responsible seemed to be there, too, and the adventurer kept down to try and avoid being seen. Her voice lowered to a hiss, "This doesn't look shady at all. Look, they've got Dutchess! Poor baby girl. We have to follow them somehow. Come on. Ah, Ivan--!" A thought struck her, using her device to snap some pictures of this garbage. With the caption 'Going to follow them, send your friend' and her location attached, Alice mailed it over to her admirer. Even if she could rescue the Furfrou alone, the situation as a whole was - probably - way above her. "This day sucks major butt, dude. Come on, let's go rescue our girl."

"Wha..."

Hiero rubbed his eyes. Jotaro stood over him with an annoyed look on his face as Hiero sat leaned up against a tree.

"Oh, shit! We have to find the --"

Jotaro looked at him and rolled his eyes, and patted his wrist as though it were a watch. And then he facepalmed.

"Dammit, I was so wiped out that I just sort of... dozed off, I guess. Sorry about that, Jojo."

Jotaro looked extremely annoyed, especially at the sound of his pet name, and looked as though he was doing everything in his power to not attack his trainer with rage. Hiero stood up and retrieved the Lombre to his Pokeball. "Sorry, buddy. I guess we should go see what's going on now..."

...

After catching up with the day's festivities, Hiero understood what the next leg of the event meant, and knowing that he had to make up for some of the damage he caused to his team by dozing off, Hiero knew he had had a trump card up his sleeve to get things back on track once he found out he was going to be playing pageant.

"Come on out, Tomoko!" Hiero shouted, throwing the pokeball to the ground. The Mareanie leapt out of the ball and smiled, and let out a light yawn and a joyful cry. "I know what you mean, Tomoko, me too..."

The pair looked at all of the items that they could choose from as they laid spread out, ready to be combined into the ultimate cute outfit... and Mareanie was the perfect candidate for the job.

"So, Tomoko - we have to make you as adorable as possible. Really, in my opinion, I don't think we need any items at all to do that, because you're pretty darn cute as it is," the trainer said with a smirk. The Mareanie clearly had a bit of a blush under her purple complexion and wiggled a bit back and forth at her trainer's compliment.

The Mareanie looked at the assortment of items and pointed at the Pink Barrette. Hiero smiled, and tied it around one of her front tentacles, like a bow. Tomoko then turned to the Frilly Apron - and Hiero replied in kind by tying it around her body. It almost looked like a dress. Tomoko turned once more to the Red Parasol, which Hiero snatched up and slid the handle of underneath the Mareanie's tentacles so that it looked as though she was holding it over her head. She started to look around for more when her trainer stepped in.

"I know we can use more items, but really, I don't think we should overdo it! This is a great look for you, and honestly, let's just keep it simple. No need to go overboard, you know?" Tomoko nodded adorably. Even Hiero, who typically wouldn't easily display such emotions, was barely containing himself given how ridiculously cute she looked.

"Well, I guess we should get ready, then..."

In the basket labelled “Seiko”, there is a set of Black Wings, a blue and gold Rigid Shield, a plastic Toy Cutlass, a jingling Tambourine, and a metal Ladle.
The basket with Sypher’s name on it contains a sturdy looking Horn Helmet, a bright Red Barette, a blue Headband with a white bow, a securely tied white Big Bag, and a thin Tie.
The final basket says “Drew”, and has a red Electric Guitar, a sharp Shuriken, a black Trident, a poofy orange Wig, and a Pirate Hat with crossing swords on it.

- - -
“And here’s the group from Tsareena’s domain, Team Unique!” Peony gestures to the other side of the stage where three boxes have been placed.
- - -

“Last but certainly not least, we have Lilligant’s domain, Team Elegant!” Peony flourishes once more as Team Elegant’s section lights up a gentle green. The music gets calmer, and three Petlil waltz on the stage. They finish with a curtsey toward three velvet bags tied up with ribbon. As each Petlil pulls a ribbon, the contents of the bag are revealed.
The bag with a tag reading “Lucas” has a Bouquet of pink and purple flowers, a Laurel Wreath to be worn on the head, a white Lonely Flower, a gold Pocket Watch, and a blue and white Lace Cap.
The bag tagged “Rorik” contains a flowing Black Cape, a black Cane, a sparkling Tiara, a high collared White Cape, and a single red Rose.
The final bag has Alex’s name on it, and inside there is a black Bowtie, a white Gentleman’s Hat, a glass Monocle, a jeweled Necklace, and a royal Crown.

Seiko's head drooped as the fanfare carried on. She'd somehow managed to shake those insufferable children--never again, she'd sworn to herself in her retreat. Never would she have guessed that she was capable of running so fast, with Aiolia tailing her for a change. At any rate, that discovery came at the cost of the treasure hunt and games for Seiko.

Her sidelong glance fell upon Aiolia, whose wagging tail and unflappable excitement drew her attention away from the chill in the air. Whatever could be the cause for that?

Her teammates were... absent. The brunette was all on her lonesome. It was not a comforting thought; she could feel the venom-drenched gaze of the rose monarch upon her head. Oh ho, if looks could kill, hers could assassinate.

"G-g-good work, Aiolia," the young woman muttered, shuddering against the proverbial weight of the world at rest atop her shoulders. "You really came through for me."

*Aiolia gained 3 levels! Aiolia rose to Level 12!*

The Little Cub yipped once more and puffed out his chest, welcoming the red stream of light that enveloped his form and returned him to comfort of his ball. Seiko meanwhile carried on listening to the gardeners' final instructions, her jaw set rigid as she considered her final task.

Dress-up. The final competition was one of the activities she loathed more than, well, most anything, really. Seiko shivered. How revolting--a sentiment Baian would no doubt share. That left her with one option, and it wasn't a bad one.

"Go, Sasha!"

The Alolan Vulpix's glowing pale fur reflected the pokeball's light with a twinkle and a pop. She blinked, meeting the gazes of awed onlookers before nodding at her trainer. Seiko however recognized the urgency of the situation and broke eye contact with her shiny companion to upend the contents of the costume bag. She struggled to explain herself as she scattered items hither and thither across the grass.

"Okay girl," she began, carefully tying the devil wings around the fox's neck. "We've got to dress you up for this part of the competition." The young woman paused briefly to nestle the shuriken like a comb between her partner's silky fronds. "I've got an idea, but it requires you to be a bit ferocious for a change..."

Seiko placed the black trident between Sasha's lips, prompting the fox to bite on the rod. Once in place, the young woman gingerly lifted the Vulpix's left paw and stood the shield upright beneath it. Seiko smirked as she regarded Sasha. "There Sasha, your transformation is completed! You are now Scathach, the Spectral Fox of the Underworld!"

Drew – You couldn’t help but express how adorable you found that Timburr to be despite Rotom’s slight annoyance with it. Eventually, after the next series of announcements that explained the games as well as a bonus explanation about how all of the obstacles had been set up on purpose, you aren’t really sure what to think. But, right now you have some games to play so that’s something to worry about another time. First on your list is of course the Haunted House, which Rotom seems to be the most excited about since he was basically born for it. After arriving at the house, Rotom floats on inside and completely takes over all of the electrical things found within, from the lights, the speakers, and even the electrical animatronics. Rotom even added their own effects in order to Astonish the guests within. In the end, many screams were heard and several guests ran out of the house with pure terror on their faces. Rotom seemed to have a fun time for a while in there before finally coming back out and after their exit, the ticket dispenser rewarded you both with 40 tickets for a job well done.

Now that the most exciting game is finished, it’s time to move onto the Charge-up Game. As you approach, you realize this ‘game’ really just looks like a few generators that are turned off with lights that are decorating the stage plugged into them. You notice that two generators already have some charge but there is a third that is currently at 0% so you and Rotom decide that’s probably the best option. Rotom hits the generator with a Discharge and the charge is practically instantaneous, it goes from 0% all the way up to 100% in a flash, you couldn’t even tell if it hit any numbers in between. The nearby ticket dispenser began to spit out a bunch of tickets, once you count them it looks like you’ve received another 40! Moving onto the final challenge, you and Rotom now have many glass cups set up in front of you, it looks like no one has broken any yet so they are all still there just waiting to be shattered and Rotom begins to do just that by causing an Uproar. The Sound coming from the uproar is something that makes everyone nearby want to cover their ears and the ground begins to vibrate along with it which begins to shake all of the cups and before long, the majority of them just begin to shatter simultaneously. In the end, only a few cups remain intact and after the tickets are done rolling out of the dispenser, you have received 38 more!

Stay tuned for more details...

Voice hoarse from cheering, Drew couldn't have been prouder, because Rotom. Absolutely. Killed it! (Figuratively speaking. Although, if he made sure not to pay too much attention to the comings and goings of the haunted house, well, plausible deniability is a wondrous concept.) The closest to a clean sweep of the games and taking first for the event overall, if Drew had done the math right, Rotom himself didn't seem any disappointed with the results. Though, if Drew were being honest, everything else was just icing on the cake for the Plasma Pokémon after Rotom floated back from the first game looking every bit like the cat who not only caught the canary but managed a five-star meal from it.

"I take back every negative thing I've said about this scavenger hunt," he had said in the short time between games, letting his smug grin say everything else.

Soon enough it was time for the final round, after all the scores had been tallied and tickets redeemed. Gathering at the main stage, now decked in spotlights from the charge-up 'game', the absent-minded scientist retook the mic, giving the results. Though Rotom pushed the score close (and took one heck of an exaggerated bow at the applause break) even he wasn't quite enough to break ahead of Team Lilligant.

Oh, well. There was one more round to take the lead.

...And of all the rounds, it had to be a dress-up contest.

Even if he wasn't the most enthused about the choice of finale, Drew couldn't deny that the available items hadn't given him one heck of an idea.

Once secluded in the Greenery Room, Drew went to work, first making sure his team was cool with his plan. Activating two Poke balls with twin flashes of light, Drew and Rotom were soon joined by a small bird and a smaller grub: one cheerful, if surprised, to be brought back out, while the other gave a lazy grin at his trainer.

"Ok, team," Drew began as they huddled up. "Last round and it’s a dress-up contest. Now, as much as I'd like to use any of you, I have an awful, horrible, amazing idea that if it works should pay off great. But it's not just me; we're a team here." Locking eyes with Donnie, his Grubbin, he continued on, "Don, my main grub, I feel especially bad since you haven't had the chance to do anything so far. If you really want to do this I won't stop you."

Donnie hm'd, looking over at the assembled accessories. "Meh, I think I'm cool. If there were chef tools or even just a chef hat I'd be down, but with this stuff I don't think I'd be all that great."

Drew nodded his acceptance and turned on to Ace. "Same goes for you, Ace, since I know you weren't happy with the water war form earlier."

Flapping up onto her trainer's shoulder, the Pidgey looked around at both the items and the competition. "I don't see that Fletchling anywhere. Is she competing in this part?"

It took him a second to remember which competitor had the Fletchling that Ace had become mildly obsessed with, but once he did he looked over to the Bellossom corner. "Um, no I don't think so. I think... Melissa, I think? is using her Skiddo for this."

A huff of air brushed by his ear, as Ace pouted. "Then I'm out. Give me explosions or give me fighting and I'm your gal. Costume stuff though? Bleh."

Reaching up to give the dismayed bird a neck scritch, Drew nodded to her as well. "'Kay, then. So for better or worse we go with my plan-"

"Hey, don't I get a choice?" Rotom interrupted, offended.

"Rotom, you are living plasma. You don't have arms to hold anything, and anything placed on you would either go all crispy or fall right through you."

Rotom blinked, but eventually gave a little bob of acknowledgment. "Yeah, fair."

Drew could only roll his eyes. "Ok, so, yeah. My plan." Setting out the necessary accessories in the middle of their impromptu huddle, Drew began laying out his idea.

Silence reigned once he finished.

Face blank, Rotom eventually broke the quiet. "So, as the only one here both without fleshy bits and who can go intangible when this inevitably goes wrong, I feel obliged to point out that traditionally giving the psychopath weapons is a bad idea."

"I don't know what a psychopath is, but I second that giving her sharp things is a recipe for disaster," Donnie agreed.

"Yeah, her reaction can't be anything but exothermic," Ace added, because of course she had try and one-up the accidental pun.

"Guys, guys, chill with the psychopath digs," Drew cut in before they got out of hand. "That's not cool. Look, I know you all don't think much of her, but I feel like there was some progress with her the other day. Enough, at least, for her to not snap and skewer us. We should give her a chance."

Rotom pursed his lips, but soon enough let out a groan. "Fine, whatever, it's your funeral. Like I said, I'm the best off when this goes wrong."

"As always I'm ecstatic by your support," Drew deadpanned. Gathering the younger two Pokémon behind him - because, yes, he was hopeful, not naive - Drew reached for his belt and pulled off a dark purple Poke ball. To the naked eye it looked unexceptional, color notwithstanding, but were one gifted with the Sight, one might see the ominous aura that surrounded the ball, rolling down from Drew's hand like smoke.

Releasing the contents into the Greenery Room, Drew took a knee to bring himself closer to eye-level with the tiny creature that emerged. Very familiar in shape to any who were regular at the garden, that was where any similarities between this Roselia and those of the Rose Garden ended. Instead of the usual garden green, this Roselia seemed to embrace a purple color scheme: her body a light lavender, while her leaf "dress" and thorns were a deep, rich purple. A shadow-like grey streak ran down her front as opposed to the normal yellow, and on each "hand" lay a pitch-black rose.

Turning to face Drew, the Roselia's body language spoke of indifference and perhaps a touch of annoyance - at being bothered, at having been confined, either was a possibility. Squinting up at her 'trainer's' face, Zylia the Roselia made it clear this better have been important, or there'd be hell to pay, all without saying a word.

Faced with this, Drew got right to business. "Hi, Zylia. I know we've never really been on easy terms, but I'd like to make a deal with you. Right now we're in a competition, in its final round. It's a costume contest, basically, and I know that's not something you'd probably be interested in, but I have a great idea for a costume for you. If you help me win, I'll owe you a favor, for the future. No strings attached, as long as no one dies." Seeing no reaction, he played his trump card. "Also, you'd get to use weapons as part of this."

Slowly, a sharp toothed smile not unlike a shark's unfurled on the Roselia's face. "Now you're speaking my language."

-------------

By the time the constant negotiating that was getting Zylia dressed finished, Drew could honestly say he'd lost all sense of time, it had been such an ordeal. A battle, more like, with scars to boot, he mused as he nursed one of his multiple thorn-induced wounds.

It was worth it though - he was right in that the whole look pulled itself together. Pirate hat perched atop her head, Zylia allowed the amazingly perfectly colored purple-striped tie to be wrapped around her waist as a sash, through which the toy cutlass hung snuggly against the left side of her body. Completing her ensemble, Zylia held a weapon in each of her rose hands: the trident gripped tight in her left and the shuriken twirled about in her right. By the time his turn was up, he'd be proud to introduce the Demon of the Wind, the Master of Smoke and Flame, rival to the great ninja Hattori Hanzō, the Ninja-Pirate, Fūma Kotarō!

Rule of Cool eat your heart out.

Christ, he hoped Zylia didn't have a change of heart mid-show...

War of the Roses

Once all of the teams have had a sufficient amount of time to prepare, Peony takes the mic once again in order to finally begin the show everyone has been waiting for. “Alright everyone, are you ready to see some adorable Pokemon!?” The crowd begins to cheer with anticipation, the entire audience seems to be anxious for this show to start. “I know you’re all excited to see what our contestants have come up with but first, let me introduce our judges!” Peony stretches her arm out toward the judging panel that is set up in front of the stage. “Our judge to the right is Samuel Flint, our Cloud Forest Trial Captain!” The crowd claps and Samual looks back at the audience and gives them a grin and a wave. “Our lovely judge on the left is Madoka Ishi and she is our Stone Shrine Trial Captain!” The audience gives a her claps as well as she formally stands and gives them all a bow before taking her seat once again. “And last, but most certainly not least, seated in the center, we have Primrose Nightingale heiress to the Rose Garden estate!” The crowd applauds the heiress and she looks back to give them a sleepy smile. “Alright, now that introductions are out of the way, let’s get this show started!!” The crowd cheers. “Alright, first up, Team Lilligant who will be showing us their Elegant looks!” an Elegant song begins to play after she announces the team.
Rorik – “Can we please have…” Peony takes a moment to read the paper in her hand to make sure she gets all of these role play names correct. “Lord Laxington of Munchester the Munchlax take the stage please!” The Munchlax was delighted to go first, he was completely ready for this moment. He walked out on stage with perfect posture, the White Cape is blowing behind him whenever a breeze passes through and his Gentleman Hat and Monicle are fitted well as well as the Rose on his chest. He looks out at the judges and flawlessly twirls his Cane to show off how sophisticated he can be. Samuel is the first to hold up his score, a 95. Primrose yawns and then holds up her score which is also a 95. “I just think he is the perfect little gentleman!!” Madoka says before finally revealing her score of a perfect 100! “The judges have given their scores! Looks like Rorik and Lord Laxington of Munchester have received an average score of 96.7! Great job you two!”

Lucas – “Now can we have Brocart the Goldeen please take the stage!” Using her ‘land legs’ Brocart begins to make her way out once she is called. She is also dressed formally, only she is dressed like a beautiful bride with a Lace Cap acting as a veil as well as a Tiara on her head which compliments it. She is using the Bouquet with the Lonely Flower in it to pretend she is hiding her tears. She is also wearing a lovely Necklace which has a beautiful shine that compliments the entire outfit. “Hah! A Goldeen bride! I love it!” Samuel holds up a 90 followed by Madoka who also holds up a score of 90. Primrose is the last to score this one and she holds up an 83. Peony speaks again, “There you have it! Looks like Lucas and Brocart the Goldeen has an average score of 87.7! You make a very beautiful bride Brocart!”

Alex – “Alright, it’s time for the final member of Team Lilligant, Caladbolg the Garchomp it’s your time to shine!” The normally goofy Garchomp takes a deep breath in order to fully get into character and then begins to walk out onto the stage while doing his best to not slouch. His Black Cape occasionally blows in the wind just like his teammate’s white cape did earlier. “The Laurel Wreath and Bowtie pair well together and certainly give him that regal appearance he was going for, of course, having a Crown on his head certainly helps with that too. Once he makes it out to the center and faces the judges, he looks at his Pocket Watch while attempting to not let his inability to actually read it show on his face. Primrose holds up her score first this time and gives him an 85. “Hehe, I think this one is a gentleman too.” Madoka holds up a sign with a perfect 100 on it! The second one she has given! Samuel follows that up with a 90. “The final scores are in! Looks like Alex and Caladbolg the Garchomp have an average score of 91.7! You did amazing!”
“Now let’s hear a round of applause for Team Lilligant!” Peony gets the crowd excited and people begin to stand up and you can hear cheers and whistles galore. “You all did wonderful!” She says to the team before they exit the stage. “Well, that was the first team and I think they truly were Elegant, weren’t they?” The crowd loudly agrees and makes it clear that they can’t wait for more. “I know I know, I’m excited to see what’s coming up next too! So, let’s not drag this out anymore and welcome our next team, Team Tsareena! This team is quite Unique!” A very Unique song begins to play on the speakers for all to hear.
Chroma – “Louise the Mawile! We are ready to see your outfit, sweetie!” Once she hears her name, Louise begrudging walks out to where the judges could see her. Seeing them stare at her while wearing a Smiley-Face Mask with a White Beard attached to her beige spot, it even had a Maraca for a tie, really irked her. The mask was practically given a personality of its own while being attached to her body. She continued to balance the Thick Book on her head while holding the Fishing Rod, ready to use it as a weapon if need be. Suddenly Samuel slammed his hand down and stood up. “I love it!!! Now that’s what I call Unique!” He holds up a perfect 100! Primrose smiles slightly and holds up an 80 which is followed by Madoka’s 85. Peony grabs the mic again. “When you average out those scores, Chroma and Louise the Mawile have earned a score of 88.3! You did so well Louise! Very Unique indeed!”

Alice – “It’s time for the second and final participating member of Team Tsareena! Blaze the Torchic, come on out!” The Maraca makes a sound with every step Blaze takes onto the stage. He does his best to dance to the music while trying to be careful not to knock off the Witchy Hat on his head or the Square Glasses on his face. At least the Blue Barette and Round Button seem to be fastened on securely. As soon as he turns toward the judges the maraca gives one last shake sound and as if on cue, the witchy hat falls down over his eyes, fortunately it didn’t knock off his glasses. “Ahaha, how adorable are you!” Madoka holds up a score of 95. Primrose then proceeds to give a score of 92 which is followed by a score of 90 from Samuel. “That’s the end of the scoring! Which means Alice and Blaze the Torchic have an average score of 92.3!”
“That’s it for Team Tsareena!” Peony guides both members to the center. “Now everyone please give them one final round of applause!” Just like before, the crowd goes wild with cheers and whistles along with some people standing up. “Who knew seeing Pokemon all dressed up could be so much fun!? I can’t wait to see the rest of our contestants!”

War of the Roses

Bright, bubbly music started up and Peony announced it was time for Team Cute to head out onto the stage. “First on the stage for Team Cute, Jess’ Iris!” The dressed up Sewaddle inched her way to center stage, where a bright spotlight and smaller pink lights shone on her. Wiggling her body, she waved the Pennant-turned-sword attached to her body. This also caused the wings on her back to flap a bit, which in turn was met with cheers from the audience. She then brandished her Parasol shield and showed off her Crimson Scarf. The judges took a moment to write down scores, then held them up one by one. Primrose had a 78, Madoka a 70, and Samuel a 75.

"Cute! That comes out to an average of 74.3!” Peony announced.

“Pretty cute little one,” Primrose leaned into the mic. “I like how you used the parasol as a shield…” She sleepily relaxed back into her chair. Iris made her way across the stage under the sign marked CUTE.

“Next up, Melissa’s Fawn! Where are you cutie?” The Skiddo joyfully pranced on to stage and faced the audience under the spotlight. She blinked her large doe-eyes before placing the Gift Box on the ground. Gently, Fawn nudged the box forward, then looked back up at the audience with hope shimmering in her eyes. The Crimson Scarf around her neck was a nice touch, and gave her an innocent look. Fawn looked a bit nervous as the blue flower started to slip, but with a flick of her ear it was back in its place. The judges raised their scores one by one. 82 for Primrose, 90 for Madoka, and 85 for Samuel.

"Adorbs! Your average is 85.7!” Peony cheered.

“すてき!” Madoka announced, clapping her hands together. “Makes me wonder what’s in that present!!” Her co-judges smiled at her enthusiasm. Following a round of cheers Fawn took her place next to Iris and the two of them watched their third teammate present her outfit.

As soon as Tomoko made her entrance the audience made a few noises of confusion. The Mareanie certainly was different from her traditionally cute teammates. She seemed right at home in her outfit of choice, and gave a coy look to the audience with her big yellow eyes. She used a tentacle to smooth out the Frilly Apron and adjusted the barrette with another. Skillfully, she twirled her Red Parasol and gave the crowd a big, sharp-toothed smile. The spiny, poisonous starfish was definitely a hit. Three scoreboards went up quickly. Primrose had 93, Madoka had 100, and Samuel had 90.

“Wow! That’s an average of 96!” Peony said excitedly.

“Woooow!” Madoka piped up again and waved her sign. “So cute! すごい!” The crowd whooped excitedly as Tomoko hopped away under the CUTE sign with Fawn and Iris.

“Let’s hear it for Team Cute!” Peony still seemed to be fawning over the Pokemon on this team, and after a moment turned around to the audience to announce the next Team.

A low heavy bass brought the introduction of Team Cool. “Now for Team Cool, presenting Seiko and Sasha!” Seiko ushered out her sparkling choice of contestant. Sasha’s fur shimmered as the spotlight hit it, and she struck an impressive pose with her paw on the Shield and Trident firmly in her mouth. The Shuriken in her bangs provided a fierce look to the fluffy fox. She turned to brandish her demonic looking wings. She struck a final pose, giving a relaxed and stoic look. There was a short moment of deliberation before the judges presented their scores. An 87 from Primrose, and 85s from both Madoka and Samuel.

“So cool! That gives you an average of 85.7!” Peony called out.

“Impressive…” Primrose looked to be nodding off despite the loud music. The Alolan Vulpix strutted off under the sign marked COOL and took a seat.

“Last but certainly not least, Drew’s Zylia!” The final member to emerge also sported an unusual coloring. Zylia the Shadow Roselia strutted out to center stage. There was a Pirate Hat perched on her head and a smug look on her face. She didn’t even seem to be phased by the large crowd in front of her. With a flowery hand, she pointed the Trident at the audience. With the other she threatened to send a sharp Shuriken flying. The already deadly rose sported another weapon, a Toy Cutlass attached smartly with a Tie. Any seafaring folk in the audience could tell they wouldn’t want to encounter such a Pokemon at sea. Guards were stationed close by in case of any accidents, but the judges didn’t seem to worried about Zylia’s several weapons. Primrose held up an 80, as did Madoka. Samuel proudly raised a 90.

“That gives you an average of 83.3! Great!” Peony cheered.

“Haha!” Samuel laughed heartily. “A pirate, would you look at that!” Zylia took her cue and stepped back under the COOL sign next to Sasha.

“Alright! Everyone give a big hand for Team Cool!” Peony let the applause fade out. The lights dimmed again, and the crowd waited for the announcement of what would come next.

War of the Roses

“That was fantastic!” Peony exclaimed, clapping her hands together. “Let’s give everyone a round of applause, shall we?” The audience cheered on as the contestants took a bow and made their way off the stage. “I’ve never seen such amazing costumes before!” Peony continued, twirling the microphone in her hand. For all of their efforts in the Poke-Pageant, the following Pokemon are awarded levels:
4 levels: Lord Laxington the Munchlax, Caladbolg the Garchomp, Louise the Mawile, Tomoko the Mareanie, and Alice gets 4 Candies as Blaze the Torchic is lv.100
2 levels: Iris the Sewaddle, Brocart the Goldeen, Fawn the Skiddo, Sasha the Alolan Vulpix, and Zylia the Shadow Roselia
“Now then,” Peony spoke, pirouetting on stage before striking an idol pose. “I hope you didn’t think that was all! Up next is… THE GRAND FINALE!” The lights on the stage suddenly dimmed as Peony made a quick exit from the stage. Moments later a pair of spotlights operated by a Jumpluff and a Whimsicott shined down from above, revealing the four queens of the Rose Garden. Bellossom did a quick curtsy with her grassy skirt, Roserade struck a cool and stylish pose, Lilligant put her leafy hands together and tilted her head, smiling demurely, and Tsareena lifts her leg into the air like a crane stance.

The audience cheered once more and Peony reappeared with the mic at the bottom of the gazebo’s steps. “That’s right! We’ve got one more round to go, and this one takes the cake! We’re having one more round of pageantry, and this time the queens are the models! The rules will be the same as before; use any of the accessories that your team gathered and try to fit you team’s style! However, this time around you are allowed to work together as a team if you wish and submit a joint outfit. You may work separately and submit multiple appeals, but only the highest score from each team will count! Best of luck and may the fairest flower win!”

As Peony finished speaking, the four flower queens gave each other a fierce look before indignantly turning away from each other and exiting the stage to join up with their respective teams. Each team’s gardener had set up a divider curtain to allow their teams to work with the queens in privacy. The three judges sat back in their seats, eager to find out what the contestants would come up with next.

To clarify, here are the rules of the pageant:
1. Teams may submit a work together or work separately in this round. There is no benefit or demerit for either course of action.
2. Up to 5 accessories from each team’s list from the previous round may be used in an appeal.
3. Multiple appeals from a single team can repeat items used by teammates.
4. Each team will be judged based on appearance and overall fit to their team’s style. (Bellossom = Cute, Roserade = Cool, Lilligant = Elegant, Tsareena = Unique)
5. The deadline to reply is Sunday, October 1st

With his vision now obscured, Kei was in a bit of a bind as the Makuhita prepared to take advantage of the situation. He had become desperate, but on the other hand, he didn’t lose focus. If he was going to win for Stufful, he couldn’t afford to lose his composure. Since the tables had been turned against him, it was up to him to turn them right back. He quickly thought of a strategy to use against the Makuhita, as he saw the big yellow figure approach him through squinted eyes.

As the Makuhita reared up and prepared to attack, Kei blew forth another thick Smokescreen cloud that covered the ring. Makuhita thrust a Force Palm in Kei’s direction, but came up with air as the scrappy Charmander luckily rolled out of the way. With no options left but to release his inhibitions, Kei focused on the thought of these fighting-typed bullies who picked on Stufful day in and day out. A deep anger built up inside of him, the Charmander beginning to glow in a red aura as his eyes glowed red as well. Kei roared out in anger, unleashing his Outrage on the Makuhita, who stumbled back and hit the ropes. Makuhita grunted in pain before clapping his hands together to blow forth a Whirlwind that quickly blew away the smoke. As he did so, Kei burst forward once again and slammed into it with another burst of Outrage.

Makuhita was really on the ropes now, both figuratively and literally. As Kei’s anger subsided, he was suddenly left with a massive headache that left him wobbling in place. His vision had returned slightly, but was still seeing double through his confusion. Would he be able to finish off Makuhita before it could unleash one more attack in desperation?
Both Patches and Mio were practically on the edge of their seats at this point, neither of them said a word as they watched everything unfold. Patches was beginning to feel nervous now, she knows that when Kei begins to Outrage it leaves him a bit disoriented, however, she also knew that if she let her nervousness show that it had the potential to stress out Kei even more. “You’ve got this Kei… I know you can do this…” She says under her breath so low that even Mio could barely hear it.

Kei was confused now. He knew that this would happen, he had just hoped that the attack would put an end to things so that it wouldn’t matter. He took a risk and that risk may or may not have been a good idea, only time will tell at this point. He was still angry. His vision was a bit blurred and he was occasionally seeing double from the confusion taking over but he needed to try his best to continue this fight regardless. Kei gives the Makuhita the most Scariest Face he can manage, in hopes that the fear will keep his opponent put or at least slow him down a bit, he can use any help he can get making things simpler for him right now. He’s still not done releasing his anger at this situation so he is going to show that Makuhita just how mad he is with his Dragon Rage and he will even use it a second time if he has to.

All that was left was to battle and let the Mossy Rock influence its powers on Vinny. Eager to get this over with, Vinny didn’t even wait to listen to her trainer’s strategy before leaping into action to face off against the Stunky. The skunk’s tail remained high on alert as it let out a growl in warning.

Ready to get herself away from the foul smell, Vinny started things off by pawing at the ground and rapidly began Digging a hole in the soft earth. Soon enough, Vinny was completely submerged underground, where it was anyone’s guess that she had gone off to. Stunky looked around, partly perplexed and partly annoyed that its opponent would suddenly hide like that, and so as it waited for Vinny to return, it began to Focus its Energy and prepare itself for battle. When it was done, Stunky began releasing a foul purple mist from its stink sacs on its rear end. The Poison Gas was quite dense and coated the floor of the clearing. Luckily it didn’t rise up to Isaac’s height, but the smell alone wasn’t pleasant for the trainer to breathe in.

The ground below Stunky suddenly began to rumble, as Vinny burst through it, hitting the poison type for good damage with a Dig attack. Stunky winced, but was still ready to go. Meanwhile, the Vinny who had launched a successful sneak attack suddenly started feeling woozy as she breathed in the toxic air unexpectedly, the poison filling her lungs. It would seem that her strategy for guerilla warfare might not go as planned going forward. What will she do?
Isaac sighed, Vinny had always been a little too headstrong for his taste. He had had a plan to handle that Skunky, but of course she had to jump ahead and immediately go in for the kill. Although now it seemed to be biting her in the ass, as she was hacking her lungs out after inhaling the noxious gas. Isaac glanced at his Pokemon, she had probably inhaled enough to poison her --- as she seemed a little dizzy on her paws. Isaac tried to think of some sort of strategy in order to counteract the small skunk, sure, Vinny had done some pretty decent damage to it... but that poison would absolutely catch up to her.

Vinny's movepool wasn't exactly the best, being of a relatively low level it was somewhat difficult for Isaac to know what the normal type could do to land a solid hit upon the creature. He wanted Vinny to evolve, she would be happy, and if she was happy that was good enough for him. Although he had to admit, the thought of getting her to level up... as well as catching this little skunk was somewhat tempting. He pondered if he would have to knock it out first, or if he could catch it and still allow Vinny to gain experience. He assumed it was the former, so Vinny's tactics might have not been the worst thing. Isaac of course, knew she was just excited --- which is why she jumped in so quickly.

"Vin! Go for a Covet, and then follow it up with another Dig!" Vinny gave a small nod, putting on her best cutie face and hopping towards the Skunky.

Maskerade:
As you patted Staryu with praise, it spat several bubbles in happiness. It watched you as you mumbled aloud some parts of the riddle, listening for anything that might stand out. This time, the words on the page felt different. Perhaps you were being rewarded for making it this far. Still, the answer came to you in a flash along with a flood of memories. You spoke the answer aloud, “Fire”, and Staryu’s gem blinked a few times in agreement. You again called upon your other partner, and Munchlax appeared before you in the cave. He let out a loud yawn that echoed throughout the room. After rubbing his eyes, the Pokemon looked refreshed from the short break you had allowed him. He paid surprisingly close attention as you explained your plan.

You took to different sides of the cavernous room, looking over the eight torches that lined the wall. Munchlax sniffed the air beneath one that was a bit too high for him to reach. The torch you began to look at did not look particularly special. Each was comprised of a thick cylindrical stone with a rounded top. There was some kind of material wrapped around the top of the torch that provided a source for the crackling fire. After a few moments of observing the torch, you hear a repetitive thudding noise. You turn to look at Munchlax, who was jumping and flailing his arms toward the torch on the wall. A shockingly high jump allowed his claw to graze the bottom of the torch. The torch fell forward with a loud clicking noise, but it didn’t leave the wall. Instead the wall behind it moved forward and kept the torch in place at a ninety-degree angle. Munchlax looked satisfied with its work and waddled back to you, a grin on his face. There was another loud click, and you and Munchlax looked back at the torch. It had clicked back into place, looking like it had never had moved at all.

Meanwhile, Staryu was looking at the paper on the ground again, occasionally shining its gem on it.
“HYA” It called out to you and Munchlax. You bent down to take a look at whatever Staryu had noticed. The light of its gem was focused on a section of the paper that was oddly blank. It was difficult to see with Staryu’s red light, but you could make out the outlines of some kind of pictures. The light shone brightly through certain parts of the paper.

As he ate his lunch and waited for his Pokemon to finish healing, Jayson contemplated his strategy for the trial he wished to challenge in the Cloud Forest. In his mind, he planned on using Spartacus the totally-not-a-Scizor as his primary cutter while Atalanta the Dartrix would go on the offensive and Odysseus the Magnemite would serve as Spartacus’ guard. Once he was done eating and his Pokemon were done healing, the trainer went over the plan one more time before cleaning up after himself.

Stepping back outside the cabin, Jayson released his three trial Pokemon to get a ley of the land while he traveled alongside them on Boudicca’s back. As the mighty Mudsdale galloped north back the way she came, the trio of trial Pokemon flew and levitated alongside her, taking in the pleasant weather.

Much like the journey over, it was a short distance until Jayson and his Pokemon reached the wall of trees that marked the boundary of the Cloud Forest. Proceeding into the forest, Boudicca’s thunderous footsteps seemed to scare away many of the native inhabitants of the forest. Eventually they arrived at a familiar signpost, the one that had directed them to the cabin before. As it was now time for Jayson and friends to venture into unexplored territory, he found an arrow on the post labeled “Woodcutter’s Trial” which pointed him the right way further north.

Progressing northbound into the forest, Jayson found the atmosphere to be slightly different from before. Although the sun had not begun to set just yet, it was getting later in the afternoon, which caused the lighting and the shadows to appear much different from the ambiance he experienced earlier in the morning when he battled against the pair of bug Pokemon. Fortunately the trail had been neatly maintained, as there was probably a regular stream of traffic that flowed through this particular area of the forest. Further up the trail, they came to yet another fork in the road; one path to the right that seemed to head off towards a cabin in the distance while a path to the left went deeper into the forest.

Jayson could hear a faint chopping noise that seemed to echo throughout the forest from the left, probably the best indicator of the man he was looking to meet. Heading in that direction, he came upon a large clearing with a massive log laying across the middle. Circular rings of the fallen wood had been sawed off where a large man was busy chopping into firewood. Upon hearing the loud footsteps of Boudicca, he turned around to face his visitors. “Hey there!” he greeted, wiping sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. “You wouldn’t happen to be here for the trial, would you? Your timing is perfect; would you mind helping me carry some wood to my cabin first? The name’s Samuel Flint by the way,” The man with the fiery red beard smiled and went to shake Jayson’s hand before motioning over to a rather large pile of chopped firewood. Most of it had already been tied up into bundles. (Please reply in limegreen)

Patches:
Kei had done his best to push the Makuhita back up against the ropes, but after doing so, his previous Outrage had left him a bit wobbly and disoriented. Makuhita wheezed as it eased itself back up onto its feet. It was no longer smirking arrogantly at the plucky Charmander, having been pushed well past its usual limits. As Kei took a minute to go over his strategy for the next round of action, Makuhita stomped his feet one at a time, much like a sumo wrestler would.

Frowning at the Charmander, Makuhita looked like it wanted to end things now before the fiery little lizard had any more surprises up his sleeve. As it charged forward, Kei stood his ground and gave Makuhita a nasty glare with his Scariest Face. This caught Makuhita a little off guard, buying Kei time to breathe the flames of a Dragon Rage in its face. Makuhita didn’t seem to enjoy this in the slightest and hit Kei with a quick pair of Arm Thrust jabs. Kei winced but tried his Dragon Rage once again. Overwhelmed by the flames, Makuhita wobbled before landing on its back with a thud. Makuhita was down for the count. Kei has grown 3 levels!

Stufful cheered loudly as Kei emerged victorious once again, seemingly forgetting how shy it was acting earlier. “Stuff stuff!” it exclaimed, putting some more Oran Berries in the corner of the ring as Kei made his return. The Charmander happily chowed down on them, regaining his strength. As the pair of Mankeys struggled to pull the tubby Makuhita out of the ring, Timburr stepped in next and clapped his hands together, congratulating Kei on a job well done.

However, Kei’s trials would not be over just yet. Timburr tossed his wooden plank high into the air like a baton before catching it in one hand effortlessly. He smirked and gestured to himself before using the plank like a pole to reach out to the ringside and ring the bell himself. It appears that Kei’s got one more opponent in store. What will he do?

Naruxami:
Isaac was less than pleased at his Pokemon’s overzealous actions causing her to fill her lungs with a cloud of poisonous air. However, as he wracked his brain to come up with a solution to beating this pesky Stunky, the best idea that came to him was to make the most of Vinny’s limited movepool and deal as much damage as she could, as fast as she could. Calling out his orders to the Eevee, Vinny slowly nodded as she tried to steel her mind through the wooziness that her status affliction caused.

Fortunately for Vinny, the skunk-like opponent has a pretty limited number of attacks as well as it squared off against her. Stunky leapt forward, Scratching Vinny with its claws before the Eevee Covetously slapped it across the face with her paw. Stunky dove forward again for a second Scratch but came up with dirt as Vinny Dug another tunnel underground. The skunk frowned, not a fan of this hit and run tactic, so it waited by Focusing its Energy once again.

Meanwhile, Vinny burrowed underground while gasping for air every now and then. It was tough to breathe underground while her lungs were filled with poison, so she decided to come up for air and launch her strike as quickly as possible. Vinny Dug her way back to the surface, emerging from underground right beneath Stunky once again and hit it for considerable damage. As Stunky groaned in pain, Vinny wheezed, hoping to catch her breath. She was still on top in terms of health, but it probably wasn’t as close as she hoped. As the battle against Stunky raged on, it was now up to Isaac to decide the next plan of action.

The name’s Samuel Flint by the way,” The man with the fiery red beard smiled and went to shake Jayson’s hand before motioning over to a rather large pile of chopped firewood. Most of it had already been tied up into bundles. (Please reply in limegreen)

Thankfully it hadn't taken them long to make their way to the trial site, before they knew it they were standing in front of the trial leader, a man by the name of Samuel Flint. The woodsman had a rather impressive red beard, his arms were brawny and tough, likely for years of woodcutting. Samuel was quick to ask a favour, it seemed he needed a hand lugging some firewood back to his cabin, something Jayson was more than happy to accommodate.

"Well met Samuel, or do you prefer Sam?" Jayson slid down off of Boudicca's back before walking over to greet the trial leader properly. Jayson gave the woodsman a firm handshake,"my name is Jayson, these are my Pokemon, Boudicca, Odysseus, Spartacus and Atalanta."At mention of her name, Atalanta flutter down to land on her trainer's shoulder."I would be more than happy to help you cart the firewood, in fact I reckon Boudicca can just about handle the entire load by herself."Boudicca trotted over, delighted for the opportunity to display her strength. Looking around, Jayson spotted a bundle of unused rope, it would be more than enough for what he intended. Walking over to the already tied bundles, Jayson tied an end of the rope to one bundle, before getting Atalanta to cut off the rope at about a metre. He then tied that end to another bundle, connecting the pair with a length of rope."Give me a hand would you Samuel?" Jayson instructed the woodsman to lift up one bundle while he would lift up the other. They would hang it over Boudicca's back, making it much more comfortable for her to carry."If we do this for all the bundles we should be ready to go in no time", Jayson smiled, he was eager to finish this menial task and get to the trial. Spartacus and Odysseus can made their way over to assist, it seemed they were also eager to get started. However he was so eager he had forgotten something, Samuel was capable of teaching Pokemon the Hidden Move Cut, something that would surely come in handy during the trial."Oh Samuel, since I am doing you a favour, how about you return it? Spartacus would love how to use Cut, would you be able to teach him?"

Missingno. Master – After observing old man Percy, it becomes very clear to you that this guy must be some kind of con artist. It may have been hard to confirm whether or not that Normal Gem was real from where you were but one thing you couldn’t possibly miss was him overselling everything he had to offer. There was no way you could just leave this one be, his actions were too strange, all of that for Nanab Berries? Knowing that there is no way he would spill if you just confront him, you come up with a plan and begin to approach. The man doesn’t notice you at first, although, you’re the one that’s leading the way, it’s almost as if he is looking right through you and only sees Miror. Another flash of greed shows on his face as he stares at your Maractus, only to vanish and become soft and welcoming.

Then, you speak the first line that the man can actually hear and he snaps out of it all together because he has finally noticed you. His face has a moment of disappointment and disgust, it seems he’s probably not as welcoming of people as he is of Pokemon. One thing you’ve also observed at this point is that this man really shows a lot of emotions on his face. You continue the act as you approach and the man rolls his eyes and then pretends he’s sorting things in his box, hoping you’ll just walk past him, but he has no such luck when you call for him directly. He flinches, takes a breath, and then puts on a fake smile to greet you. “What can I do for ya, lad?” You begin to explain that your Maractus is hungry and ask if he can spare one of his Nanab Berries. He raises an eyebrow, he seems to be a bit suspicious. “So, your Maractus’ favorite food is Nanab Berries… How convenient...” The man stares at Miror and watches as he puts on his best performance, even drooling a bit as he stares at the berries.

“Well, I’d hate to make a Pokemon suffer but I just can’t spare any of these berries. You see… They are my daughters absolute favorite and…” He pauses to sniffle. “She is very sick… These… These Nanab Berries are the one thing that can make her happy during this hard time. She used to pick them with her mother when she was a child and so when I bring her these berries, I hope that they will make her feel warmth, as if her mother is once again by her side…” The man makes a few more sniffle noises and also hasn’t made eye contact with either of you at all during this entire story, but that’s about to change. “Aha!” The man holds a single finger up in the air and appears to have come up with an idea.

He digs through his box and pulls out what appears to be a small see through plastic container filled with apple cores and turns his attention toward Miror. “Now little one, I know what this looks like, but this isn’t what it looks like! This is something that is very special and would be perfect for you, this is something I like to call, Leftovers!” The man holds the container out in front of Miror for a moment before pulling it back and holding it near his chest. Right now, it’s almost as if you don’t exist anymore, he is clearly just blocking you out and talking to Miror. “Not only will these Leftovers fill your belly indefinitely, they will also provide you with perfect health at all times! Have you ever battled another Pokemon only to get knocked out? Well, with these Leftovers in your belly, you will be continuously supplied with the health you need in order to keep fighting! Believe me, this is something you can’t pass up.” As you listen, you stare at the container and see that some of the apple cores have already turned brown. “This stuff will make you invincible I tell you! However, something like this doesn’t come cheap, but I really like you, so I’m willing to give you a huge discount. Instead of cash, all I ask is for you to bring me five Nanab Berries from the berry orchard nearby. Piece of cake.” The man nods at his own statement. “I know they are your favorite but think about my daughter and that the power these Leftovers hold can be all yours. This is a steal!”

---------------------

myahoo – You softly apologize to Wildfire as you return him to his ball, feeling quite bad that you don’t have any recovery items at the moment after how hard he fought. You’re quite annoyed with the kid at this point but you’re forced to listen as he rambles on about his really dumb excuse for what he’s doing. When he finishes, you’re most certainly not impressed at all. So basically, he had no real reason for doing what he’s doing, he attempted to turn it into some sob story when in reality losings just the occasional part of life, he could have just trained better for next time, but no. Instead, he is trying to burn down an entire forest just so he can replicate the Burnt Forest that he has a desire to see and in the process, hurting Pokemon that live here without caring about them at all. You are reminded of the damage he has been causing as you take a moment to look at the Poochyena that was still passed out by a tree off to the side.

Signal seemed to also be feeling the severity of the situation at this point, which caused him to want to win this more than he already had before. Once the boy suggests that you finish the battle, you and Signal are already prepared to do just that. Papi gets ready to begin his Uproar but Signal isn’t about to allow that to start without getting the first hit in and runs up and Sucker Punches him right in the stomach, knocking the wind out of the Palpitoad! Papi rubs his stomach where he was hit for a moment and is now clearly a bit angry at Signal. This time, he manages to begin the Uproar he had attempted to start earlier, he stomps around and loudly makes screeching noises that hurt not only Signal’s ears, but it kind of hurts yours too. Signal quickly begins to gladly use Double Team in hopes that the Palpitoad will aim its Uproar at the wrong target instead, and this technique does seem to work since now Papi is just spinning in circles trying to hit something that counts but isn’t having much luck at the moment. Signal follows up with a Psybeam that also seems to land perfectly, it knocks Papi over and now he is flailing around as he still tries to keep the Uproar going. He’s clearly very hurt and now he’s not even getting up but is just waving his limbs around and making loud noises while he lays there, maybe he’s actually confused?

The opponent is almost done for, so there is no time to waste, Signal Soaks Papi and immediately uses Charge Beam! This time, Papi is most definitely not immune to the attack and his Uproar is now silenced, because he is laying there completely motionless. Signal did it. He completely dominated that Palpitoad who seemed to be so powerful earlier and managed to get pay back for Wildfire. Signal is feeling much stronger after such an accomplishment and suddenly gains 4 levels. “No! No no nooooo!!” The boy returns Papi to his ball and if looks could kill you’d probably be dead right now. “I will get you for this!!” The boy grabs another pokeball off of his belt and raises his arm to throw it but suddenly a well built man with buzzed red hair, a thick red beard, and wearing a red plaid flannel shirt steps out from the shadow of the trees behind him and grabs his arm before he can release whatever is in that ball. “I’d say that’s enough of that.”

“You!!!!” The boy twists around in the man’s grip, struggling to get free but it is no use since the boy is very small in size compared to the man. Although he is holding the boy’s wrist with one hand, he seems to barely notice the boys struggle and looks at you. “You did a wonderful job! Thank you for taking care of him! I showed up just in time for the kid’s little speech and was about to step in then but you seemed to be handling it just fine so I figured I’d just supervise. Anyway, the names Samuel and it’s nice to meet you, I’m the trial captain of the Cloud Florest. I came out here because a couple of bird watchers informed me that someone was starting fires.” The boy finally gives up and stops struggling. “I wouldn’t have had to do it if you didn’t cheat!! That’s the only way my Scyther lost to yours! Everyone’s a cheat!” The teen tries to start an argument with Samuel but he just remains as calm as ever. “Listen kid, losses happen. You need to use those losses to your advantage because they help you grow and become stronger. You just have some growing up to do.” The boy continues to back talk but Samuel just tunes him out. “I’d like to reward you for helping out but I didn’t exactly come prepared with rewards to hand out, however, if you come to my cabin sometime, I’ll gladly repay you for what you’ve done.” Suddenly, two police officers show up and Samuel explains the situation to them, apparently, he had sent them his location while you were battling. Once the officers take the boy away Samuel sighs and rubs the back of his head. “I hope that kid doesn’t ruin your impression of the Cloud Garden, this is generally a really nice place, it’d be unfortunate to allow someone like that to ruin it for you.” Samuel walks over to the passed out Poochyena and lifts it up into his arms. “I’ve gotta take this little guy back to my cabin so he can be treated, like I said, if you ever find yourself at my cabin I will certainly reward you for dealing with this mess.” He begins to walk away while gently carrying the wild Poochyena, he hasn’t gotten all that far away from you yet but you are still left with a moment to decide what you want to do now.

---------------------

Meetan – You wished you were carried over to this area much more gently than you actually were but it’s clear that the Skiddo felt that this was pretty urgent, and you can easily see why. You watch the men work and they definitely seem to be up to no good at all, so you decide to send information to Ivan before you start following them since this doesn’t seem like something you should be handling alone. After the information is sent, you begin to follow the two men while being careful to be as quiet as possible and using the hills to your advantage since they hide you quite well. The Skiddo seems to be too nervous to even follow you and chooses to stay put, you didn’t have time to convince it otherwise because you didn’t want to lose sight of the men. So, the Skiddo just watches you nervously as you get further and further away from it. After following them for about 10 minutes, you have reached an area where there is now another Pokemon flailing around in the sludge, it’s so messy that you can’t even tell what the poor thing is.

“Damn, this one’s a mess.” The man who appeared to be the owner of the Mudbray is the first to comment. “We need to get this one out qui-” He pauses midsentence as he notices the two Trubbish slowly making their getaway. “You know, I can see what you two are doing and I have no intention of letting either of you out of my sight just yet so get your butts back over here or else I’ll send out one of my other Pokemon to make sure you come over here.” The pair of Trubbish look a bit upset but do as their told. “Alright, now we-” That’s when it happens. The man is cut off again, only this time it’s by the repeating notification sounds coming from your Xtranceiver. You fumble around trying to shut it off, of course Ivan would start bombarding you with messages at the worst possible time. You only take a moment to glance at what he sent and all you see are a series of awkwardly angled selfies from Franklin, it looks like he must have gotten a hold of Ivan’s phone. “Shit!! What was that!?” The one man seems a bit freaked out. The other, with the Mudbray, replies, “Huh? Probably nothing to worry about, sounds like there is just a trainer nearby. Maybe they have a water type with them? You should go check it out, I want to get this Pokemon out of the sludge now, this is taking too long. Give me a hand, Tank.” The man turns away and guides his Mudbray to the edge of the sludge nearest to the struggling Pokemon. “What? Why would we care if they have a water type… Oh! Right! Yes, I’ll go see if I can find them then. Leave it to me.” He begins to walk toward your direction. “You also probably shouldn’t give away that you’re a ranger right away. We’re wearing plain clothes for a reason.” The Mudbray owner says that in a low voice but you still hear it. “What? Ah. Yeah yeah, sure.”

You are nervous now, the man is definitely approaching your area and you aren’t sure what to make of any of that conversation. You see him going around to the right of the hill so you move around to the left in hopes that you can avoid being caught, but instead you run directly into him. He somehow managed to make it look like he was going the other way when, in fact, he was not. Keeping his voice down the man speaks to you. “I see you’ve been watching us. If you know what’s best for you, you’d turn around right now and forget about everything you’ve seen. Don’t worry, since you’re this close I’m sure you heard what that man said back there, I’m actually a ranger undercover, I’ll handle this so you don’t need to tell anybody.” The man’s face appears to be pretty sincere now that you’re very close to him, but you can’t tell if it’s real. “Did you find someone, Greg!?” The man with the Mudbray calls out to his partner that is currently standing in front of you. “Nope, I didn’t find anyone at all, Joe!” Greg responds with a lie while looking right at you. “That guy can’t be trusted so I’d really watch myself if I were you. He’s pretending to be a ranger undercover because he discovered my identity so he’s trying to get close but I’m onto him, he’s the real bad guy here. Now run along before you get yourself too deep into something that you won’t be able to crawl back out of.” With that, Greg turns around and heads back to his partner who has already loaded up the mystery Pokemon next to Duchess. “Man, it’s too bad. I really wish we had water or something around here… I can’t believe I forgot my communication device.” Joe, the one that Greg says can’t be trusted, seems to be a bit frustrated. Greg looks over in your direction and sees that you’re still peeking over the hill, so he swats his hand through the air in a shooing gesture toward you. You look back at your device and see that you’ve received a few more awkward Franklin selfies, good thing it’s on silent now at least. Once again, the men begin to walk off, with Tank pulling the small cart and the two Trubbish following closely behind.

Piece of cake.” The man nods at his own statement. “I know they are your favorite but think about my daughter and that the power these Leftovers hold can be all yours. This is a steal!”
The weirdness got weirder. As the duo approached, Percy seemed only to notice the Maractus. His face, initially betraying yet another flash of greed, turned soft and welcoming. He only seemed to notice Gavin upon actually hearing the man speak, and his reaction was remarkably different- a look of disappointment and disgust. He even flinched when Gavin addressed him directly, and seemed quite suspicious at the notion that Miror's favorite food just happened to be what he made a point to con others out of. But Miror did not let this suspicion mess with his concentration. He'd put on good performances before. Back in the Adoption Center, he had to constantly pretend to be this untameable, undesireable, unpredictable beast of a Pokémon to dissuade potential adopters until Gavin could get there to get him back. And while Nanab Berries were generally nothing special to Miror, he did think the taste was OK. But right now, Miror had to act like they were his whole world. And right now, that meant looking at the Nanab Berries and trying to pretend they were a bunch of Duking brand Poké Snacks- now that was good eating! He gazed longingly at the Nanab Berries, picturing them as the wedges of food that were so beloved by Pokémon in Orre, allowing himself to drool a little bit.

Gavin listened with great patience as Percy launched into a story about a very sick daughter whose absolute favorite was Nanab Berries, while adding, for good measure, the implication that said daughter's mother was no longer among the living. Sad though the story was, Gavin couldn't help but notice that the man seemed to be almost making a point to sniffle during said story. Almost as though he wanted it to be known that he was crying. Which Gavin seemed to doubt- another hint was the distinct lack of eye contact. Gavin had to resist the urge to give a derisive snort here- this behavior reminded him of every shady salesman in Pyrite Town trying to unload a bunch of Dr. Kaminko's useless inventions, except this guy didn't seem stupid enough to claim that something called the Unhealthy Sandals had all sorts of amazing health benefits. Even so, though, the behavior all seemed to line up with every con artist Gavin had ever had the displeasure to meet.

Percy then turned his full attention to Miror, now holding up a plastic container full of... apple cores. Miror had to resist the urge to burst out laughing as Percy claimed them to be the valuable held item known as Leftovers, while also grossly overselling what Leftovers were capable of. Instead, he looked interested and intrigued by his offer. And Gavin likewise did not act as though he saw through this man's act- he still believed they had to play along, at least for now, if they wanted to get to the bottom of this. But it was pretty hard to not look skeptical- some of the apple cores were even turning brown, generally not something one gets with Leftovers.

"Marac. Maractus!" Miror nodded with feigned enthusiasm at the man's offer.

"Nearby berry orchard?" Gavin repeated, trying to sound more curious than skeptical. "Which way would it be, do you know?" he asked. Inside, he was wondering why the man didn't just go to the berry orchard himself if he so desired Nanab Berries, if it really was so close by.

For all of their efforts in the Poke-Pageant, the following Pokemon are awarded levels:
4 levels: Alice gets 4 Candies as Blaze the Torchic is lv.100

Alice watched all of the contestants, impressed and antsy about various displays. Some of them, she naturally waved off, as if knowing that her Pokemon would do better or had done better without a doubt. The young woman cooed, ahh'd and clapped for her adorable birdie as he strutted and danced and charmed the judges even with his clumsiness. Their high placement caused her to cheer, and when Blaze arrived back, she set the maraca aside and swept him up into a celebratory hug. "You did fantastic, my baby boy! Yes you did! Mwah!" The Pokemon chirped bashfully, heart swelling to receive a barrage of affection that he once thought reserved for his less fiery teammates.

Peony announced the finale, and Alice glanced at Chroma and then at her Pokemon, blue eyes returning to the unique yet stunning Tsareena outside. She certainly looked quite the diva, and Alice was worried about whether or not they could bring out the creature's style properly. Still, with she and her teammate working on different visuals, they stood a better chance.

She waited for the Pokemon to arrive at their own little space, curtseying and greeting Tsareena politely. "Okay, we've both decided we want to dress you differently since we think it'll give us a better chance. We won't let you down." Alice assured, although that was easier said than done. With a team member down, this whole thing had been a near inevitable loss despite how well Alice had managed with the challenges so far. Once it was her turn, the contestant took her pick of the items, and began to style Tsareena carefully.

"Okay, so, I thought a hint of geek chic might look good. Since you've got such a cool image naturally, I thought it'd be really great." Blaze watched as Alice offered the glasses to Tsareena, setting the striped green barette about her neck. "Carry the book out, and then..." Alice hummed. Sometimes less was more, but she was worried that the items had too little impact alone. She took the risk, deciding to combine the smallest barette and the gorgeous flower it compliment, setting them on the middle, green line of hair at the back top and centre to stand out but avoid it clashing with the other colours up front.

"Alrighty, what do you think? I reckon we're good to go!" Alice said with a nod. "Give it your all, my queen, and we'll be cheering you on from the wings! Right, Blaze?"
"Tor, Torchic!"

It was probably a good thing that the Skiddo hadn't followed, because it probably would have either killed her for her stupidity or charged away and given up the duo's location. Alice swore furiously under her breath as she fumbled with the smart device, Axel looking chill as ever, but probably internally screaming at his trainer on the inside. Her painted nails clicked at the screen, digits scrambling. Normally she might coo over receiving selfies of a cool Wartortle like that no matter how awkwardly angled, but right now Alice only had time to mute the damn thing and try to run away-- which they also failed at. For fuck's sake.

Her cheeks blaze red out of fear for what might happen next. He looked honest, whoever he really was, but Alice knew that she could be a bit ditzy, naive and gullible and wasn't sure that she could trust her own judgement even in her most evaluating or cynical moments. That aside, she needed to rescue Dutchess still, and perhaps help whatever other Pokemon was in the cart. Anyway, were the Trubbish wild or not, if they were trying to sneak away? This whole thing felt very puzzling indeed. Alice waited for the pair to put a bit of distance on them, but not get out of sight, so that Greg might think they had left.

"To be honest, we're already way too deep in on this." Alice said to her partner, who certainly agreed. They couldn't walk away without it bothering them for the rest of their lives. She angled herself to take some pictures of all of the sludge, and what she could of the cart and its escorts, to send off to Ivan with an update of what was going on and that the Skiddo had been too afraid to follow them. She wasn't sure Ivan would see given that Franklin had the phone, but maybe the water type at least knew to hand the phone over if it went off? "Come on, mister, we're going Ranger Wrecking." Alice memed, sort of, and they continued on stalking. Hopefully this time they wouldn't get busted.

For all of their efforts in the Poke-Pageant, the following Pokemon are awarded levels:
2 levels: Zylia the Shadow Roselia

"Well, that could have gone better," Rotom announced once the group had retreated back to the Greenery room. Having ventured out into the audience to see the results of his costume designing, Drew couldn't say he really disagreed.

"I mean, yeah," he said as much, "but no one got hurt so I'm still counting this as a win. Plus, even if we fell in the bottom half we didn't take last point-wise. Small victories, Rotom."

"I'm pretty sure Zylia is trying to steal that shuriken," Rotom deadpanned as he spied said Roselia secluded in a corner having flatly refused to rejoin them, her moment of cooperation past. Drew, not wishing to cause a scene, had let her, whispering to Rotom to make sure she didn't wander too far away as she went.

"Mixed victories, Rotom," Drew fired back without missing a beat.

Flapping off Drew's shoulder onto one of the work tables, Ace turned to look up at her trainer. "So boss, what's your plan for this finale thing? You gonna do something with those other two people?"

The man gave a loose shrug of his shoulders, folding his arms as he leaned back against another table. "I would, but I haven't seen either of 'em since before the show thing. And even then, I actually haven't seen that Sypher guy for a while. I'd've though he was stuck in the bathroom or something but I guess that's been locked up tight since about when this entire event started. No, we're going it alone. Besides, strategically it would be better for us each to submit an appeal or whatever if only to triple our chance at scoring high. If we only did one as a group that's our only shot."

Joining Ace on her table, Donnie started scanning the list of accessories. "So what is your plan then? I don't think the whole ninja-pirate idea went over that well."

"Yeah," Drew admitted, "that might've been too much or forced, even with Rule of Cool. But I don't think I was that off, considering Seiko's try. It looked like it had the same general idea behind it. I think if we combine the two ideas into a cohesive pirate ensemble, that would fit the 'cool' bill perfectly. I mean, pirates are cool, right?"

Rotom gave him a flat look. "You just have a thing for pirates, don't you."

"Well, you're not wrong, but seriously look what we've got to work with," Drew said, gesturing with his hands. "If we had a pair of sunglasses and like a leather jacket or something we could pull off a killer rocker with that guitar, but with only these? About half of them aren't even 'cool.' I mean, poufy clown-ish wig? A barrette and headband? A ladle? None of that screams cool to me."

"I take offense to the comment about the ladle," Donnie, the resident foodie and amateur chef pointed out. "Ladles are plenty cool."

Drew raised his hands in apology. "Sorry, sorry. But my point is that with those things there's only a couple options that scream 'cool' and pirate is the most cohesive one."

Before anyone could respond, the group was joined by none other than the Queen Roserade herself. Joining Drew and the others in a little bow, Rotom side-whispered, "I never said I disagreed, o' Captain my Captain."

Drew gave the Plasma Pokémon a Look, but otherwise focused his attention on Her Majesty. "Thank you for allowing us to decorate you, Queen Roserade. We promise to take our best efforts to ensure you look nothing but the coolest you can be. As I was just explaining to my companions, we believe that with the available accessories, the best and most coherent attire is that of a swashbuckling pirate hero. If I may?" he asked, gesturing to him adorning her with accessories. Upon agreement, he took the pirate hat and placed it atop her white head. "This of course makes it clear what we're aiming for, and these," he continued, passing her the cutlass and shield, "complete the look."

Giving the outfit a once-over, Drew nodded in satisfaction. "It may not be the most elaborate costume, but if I took away nothing else from my last try with my Roselia, sometimes less can be more. As long as you emphasize the inherent cool-ness of a swashbuckler, you should do great, Your Majesty."

From behind him, Donnie yelled out a cheerful "Good luck, Queen Roserade, ma'am" before being pecked by Ace. "Don't say that, Donnie," she admonished. "Telling someone about to perform good luck is bad luck. Instead say break a leg. Break a leg, Queen Roserade!"

The Grubbin just looked confused. "But why would I want her to get hurt? That's really counter-productive."

((This reply and subsequent appeal are a joint submission by myself, Raves and Jeri))

Rorik's mouth was agape. Somehow, some way, the dimwitted Munchlax had actually convinced the jury with his self-made costume, not only into giving him a good score... but the absolute best. Indeed, Munchlax had won the appeal round by garnering more points than all the other contestants, and Rorik had absolutely nothing to do with it. It was amazing and frustrating at the same time - the more time they spent together, the more convinced Rorik became that his Pokemon partner was actually perfectly capable of handling matters all on his own, but the reminder of his own uselessness was always a bitter one.

That wasn't to say his teammates hadn't done an admirable job themselves, both Alex and Lucas managing to put on stunning performances with their Garchomp and Goldeen respectively - all in all, Rorik was certain they'd made Lilligant proud.

And that, in a way, was also their biggest problem at the moment. Because as it turned out, the individual appeals were not the final challenge - it now fell on their shoulders to make "their" Queen just as Elegant as their own partners, if not more.

Oh dear. Letting Munchlax do whatever he wants is one thing; playing fashion adviser to a wild Pokemon that rules over one fourth of a region is another story altogether...

Rorik's notions of clothing etiquette were as developed as his social skills; he had the fashion sense of a Grimer, so the best he could hope for was that the other members of Team Lilligant weren't as clueless as him. Fortunately, that turned out to be the case, and the three human Trainers came to an agreement on which accessories to use fairly quickly, much to the Professor's astonishment.

My, these two really are agreeable individuals. What a pleasant surprise!

They ruled out the "gentlemanly" accessories first, a unanimous decision. Indeed, Lilligant would be much better off showcasing her royal persona - and fortunately, they'd been given the perfect tools to do so.
Finding the perfect balance between Lilligant's inborn virtues and which accessories highlighted them the best was the trickiest part though - it was a natural temptation to give the Queen every kind of flower they had available, but that could drown out the natural beauty of her own blossom.

In the end, the team settled for a single Lonely Flower, its large stalk allowing Lilligant to handle it much like a gorgeous white scepter. To go with the flower's pristine color, the regal White Cape befitting an actual queen was the natural choice to follow. And while the Crown would've all but cemented Lilligant's status as a ruler, Elegance was still the motto and no other head accessory showcased the Grass-Type's fair complexion better than the lovely Tiara - which, thanks to its beautiful light blue tone, went perfectly with the Necklace, whose flawless pearls were indeed worthy of royalty. And the final touch, one that meant to further drive home the fact that Lilligant's elegance was indeed unparalleled, was also a creative little twist on the accessory's intended use - the Laurel Wreath, rather than worn on the head, was placed like a shoulder sash, more fitting and elaborate than any human beauty pageant winner's strap of cloth.

When the dress-up process was concluded (during which Lilligant was surprisingly cooperative), it fell on Rorik to do the honours. It was as if Alex and Lucas knew how much he despised speaking publicly and thought it'd be good for him to overcome his aversion. He wouldn't.

"Ahem... Ladies and gentlemen, your attention please," he finally found the guts to say out loud to whoever cared to hear him." Please give a warm round of applause to the Personification of Elegance, First Lady of Lillies and hopefully future ruler of Cloud Garden..."

"... Queen Lilligant of Team Elegant!"

Louise may not have looked much calmer, but at least the pretty decent score kept her from going over the edge. Chroma sighed as the Deceiver Pokemon hurriedly tore off her props, all too eager to be rid of the humiliation. The Smiley Face Mask got a little bent up in the process, sure, but at least that was all there was to the damage- the pixie could certainly tear things up when she wanted to, and getting a low score would've most likely made her want to!

"Hey, look on the bright side," Chroma began, catching the maracca out of the air. "You got one of the few 100's!"

'And a hungry bear was the competition,' instantly came the agitated response.

"Okay, fine, I'll let you be." Chroma heaved another sigh as she recalled her long-time partner. "I've got other things to worry about now..."

Chroma bowed to the queen, seriously hoping her nervousness wasn't showing. Tsareena's emotions, assuming there were any, were inscrutible, which of course only added to the human's awkwardness. Still, this was the finale of the whole event, which meant that they weren't likely to see each other again after this one interaction, so the fluity monarch was indeed displeased with her performance, she wouldn' have to be around to suffer the consequences. Not exactly the nicest of notions, but it did give her some comfort. Some was better than nothing, right?

"Right. I apologize in advance if this doesn't really please you," Chroma began, pulling the Professor Hat out of the prop box. "Here's hoping it helps us pull off a victory, though." She cautiously placed the aforementioned hat so that it was hanging off Tsareena's crown-like growth in a manner that probably would've been haphazard on most other beings with well-defined heads. She then hung the Witchy Hat off the upward-curling part of the Fruit Pokemon's carapace. She then fashioned the Gorgeous Flower onto Tsareena's neck (a very, very unsettling experience, indeed) and removed the arms from the Square Glasses so that they wouldn't jab the eyes out upon application. And lastly, she gave her the Magic Wand to hold- it certainly looked more like a magic staff, which probably suited most of the pokemon being made to carry it better, anyway.

With all that done, Chroma took retreated to a distance she hoped would be far enough from those dangerous-looking legs posthaste, making sure to bow on her way out. This wasn't her greatest work by any means, but she didn't exactly have access to whatever she wanted, either. Hopefully, Team Unique would score well regardless!

For all of their efforts in the Poke-Pageant, the following Pokemon are awarded levels:
2 levels: Fawn the Skiddo

"85.7." Melissa made a face and nodded at Fawn. "We didn't do too bad, right?"

Fawn carefully shook her head and then nudged Melissa's hand. The Skiddo kinda wanted to get these accessories off, though she wouldn't mind if Melissa decided to get a Crimson Scarf in the future.

(Fawn goes from Lv. 22 to 24.)

The pair listened as Peony wrapped up the pageant portion and announced the final event. Melissa started to have a sinking feeling when the spotlights hit the four queens of the garden. She had to suppress a groan as Peony declared that there would be another round of pageants, this time with the queens themselves. Each team could submit a team attempt or individual attempts, but, considering her team didn't seem too big on the cooperation part, Melissa kind of doubted that she'd be able to leave the costume design to someone better at it. Better that they have at least one submission than none, though, so she headed to the dressing area.

Rubbing the back of her neck, she glanced over the accessories their team had collected. Maybe the Red Parasol...and the Purse? No, the Frilly Apron and the Crimson Scarf. Would that be too much? They were allowed five accessories, but...would they work together well?

Melissa sighed and decided she would just go for it. Otherwise, she'd probably end up running out of time and she was cutting it close already.

"Sorry about this," she told the Garden's Bellossom. "I'm not at all confident about this, but I hope we make a decent showing, at least."

Fawn nudged at Melissa's arm again and Melissa glanced down at her. "Is that the Headband?" Melissa frowned for a moment. "Oh, you think we should add this?" Fawn shrugged and made a it-couldn't-hurt tilt of her head. "Well, I suppose that's true."

Once they had done all they could, Melissa took a deep breath and crossed her fingers. "Here goes nothing."

Signal's Sucker Punch landed solidly in the Palpitoad's gut, stopping it from getting its Uproar off immediately. It doesn't stop it for long as it starts screeching after a moment, which, ow. Melissa winced and plugged her ears as best she could, watching Signal wince and blink 'pain' before splitting into several copies. The Palpitoad fails to hit the real Signal, while Signal manages to hit his opponent, knocking the Palpitoad over, where it just...kinda...flails around? Either way, Signal manages to Soak it and then hit it with a Charge Beam, making it go silent.

(Signal goes from Lv. 21 to 25.)

"No! No no nooooo!!" The kid returns his Palpitoad and then glares. "I will get you for this!!"

He grabs another Pokéball off of his belt and prepares to throw it, but a man steps out from somewhere behind the kid and grabs his arm.

"I'd say that's enough of that."

Melissa relaxed from where she was reaching for her own Pokéball, preparing to give Signal some backup, and figured the kid was done.

"You!!!!" The kid tries to twist out of the man's grip, but it doesn't seem to give the man any difficulty, since he takes a moment to speak to her.

"You did a wonderful job! Thank you for taking care of him! I showed up just in time for the kid's little speech and was about the step in then but you seemed to be handling it just fine so I figured I'd just supervise. Anyway, the name's Samuel and it's nice to meet you, I'm the trial captain of the Cloud Forest. I cam out here because a couple of bird watchers informed me that someone was starting fires."

"I wouldn't have had to do it if you didn't cheat!! That's the only way my Scyther lost to yours! Everyone's a cheat!"

Melissa rolled her eyes and shook her head, figuring the kid wouldn't notice her while he was busy arguing with the source of his irritation. What a child.

"Listen kid, losses happen. You need to use those losses to your advantage because they help you grow and become stronger. You just have some growing up to do." Samuel ignored whatever the kid was saying and turned back to Melissa. "I'd like to reward you for helping out but I didn't exactly come prepared with rewards to hand out, however, if you come to my cabin sometime, I'll gladly repay you for what you've done."

Two police officers show up to take custody of the kid as Samuel explains the situation. Melissa figured as a trial captain, the position must give him as much authority as a gym leader if the police showed up when he called for them. As the trio left the clearing, Samuel sighed and rubbed the back of his head.

"I hope that kid doesn't ruin your impression of the Cloud Garden, this is generally a really nice place, it'd be unfortunate to allow someone like that to ruin it for you."

He walked over to the Poochyena and picked it up. "I've gotta take this little guy back to my cabin so he can be treated, like I said, if you ever find yourself at my cabin I will certainly reward you for dealing with this mess."

Melissa quickly returned Signal and followed after Samuel. "If your cabin has somewhere to heal Pokémon, I need to stop by there and heal up too. He knocked my starter out and I don't feel right not having him awake and out." She sighed. "Though, it looks like I might be outta luck again. I ran into you and you're the trial captain, so I guess that's my sign to leave the search for another day."

War of the Roses

Meetan- You and your Torchic approach the Alolan Queen with the proper flourish. Tsareena smirks and awaits your decision on what her outfit will comprise of. After spending some time looking over your items, you come up with a theme. Tsareena looks confused at the term, but curious enough to let you start dressing her up. You place the Square Glasses on her face, and the queen moves her hair out of the way so you can attach the Green Barette to her neck. You hand her the Thick Book and round the Pokemon so you can decorate her hair with the Small Barette and Gorgeous Flower. Once you are all set, Tsareena looks pleased at her reflection in a provided full-length mirror. The queen gives Blaze a pat on the head before she heads out of the Greenery Room and onto the stage.

“Introducing, the queen of the lush Alolan jungles, the Unique and fruity ruler, Queen Tsareena!” Peony calls out on the mic. “Tsareena’s outfit is designed by Team Unique member, Alice!” The lights on the stage brighten and Tsareena steps onto the stage with her long legs. The Queen holds the book to her chest and struts downstage. She stops in front of the roaring crowd and adjusts her glasses. She turns, showing off the decorations on the back of her hair. As a finishing flair, she kicks one of her legs in to the air and tosses her glasses into the audience. Several Team Unique fans clamber to get a hold of it, and a volunteer tries to make their way through the crowd to get them back. The scores for Tsareena go up one at a time, 98 from Primrose, and 95 from Madoka and Samuel. “And that’s an average of 96 points! Great job Tsareena and Alice!”

Rotom- Roserade waits nearby as you and your Pokemon make your selections. You hear her laughing a bit as you and your Pokemon argue a bit about what would look the coolest. You approach the queen and let her know your plan. She nods in agreement, and gestures to you to go ahead and start. The queen lowers her head and allows you to place the Pirate Head on her. She adjusts it a bit herself with her flowered hands. With only some trouble, you manage to find a way to get Roserade to hold the Cutlass. The Rigid Shield had a strap on the back that you attached to her arm. Roserade gives you and your Pokemon a cool salute as you cheer her on.

“Coming up next, watch out for her thorns, the queen of everything cool, Queen Roserade!” Peony announces as lights begin to dance around the stage again. “This nautical ensemble is put together by Drew of Team Cool!” The audience whoops as Roserade swaggers across the stage. Someone in the tech booth with good timing puts on the song from a popular pirate movie. She strikes a pose as she reaches center stage. The Bouquet Pokemon thrusts the cutlass forward, the plastic blade wobbling a bit. She then slashes it downward, and holds up her shield proudly. With a turn, her cape flutters stylishly. Before she ends her routine, she tips her hat and winks at the audience. A round of applause finishes up and the judges present their scores. 90 is given by Primrose and Madoka, and Samuel gives an 80. “That is an 86.7 average! Super duper, Roserade and Drew!"

Team Lilligant- Rorik, Lucas, and Alex gathered in their corner of the Greenery Room to discuss their plans for the final round. Queen Lilligant herself watched from a distance, patiently waiting for her team. Every so often she adjusted her leaves in a manner that made her look a bit nervous. She then looked relieved when Rorik approached her to explain what her outfit would be. The scientist handed over the Lonely Flower and Lilligant looked over it with interest. She seemed a little surprised as the White Cape was thrown around her shoulders. The Tiara fit nicely on her natural crown. The queen’s eyes widened as the sparkly necklace was fastened around her neck, and she was too transfixed on it to notice the Laurel Wreath being placed on like a sash. Team Elegant admired their work, and Rorik gave a short introduction to present their Queen.

“Ooh! I like that, I’m gonna use that, mkay?” piped up Peony, who had been listening nearby. Lilligant followed her out onstage.

“Ladies and gentleman! The personification of elegance, the lady of lilies, Queen Lilligant!” Peony giggled as she overemphasized the fanciness of Rorik’s words. “This outfit is a collaboration of all members of Team Elegant, Rorik, Lucas, and Alex!” Lilligant practically floated across the stage with how delicately she walked. She gave a curtsey to the audience, and waved her flower over the crowd. The audience ooh’ed and ah’ed as she spun around to show off her whole outfit. The judge’s scores went up quickly. 98 from Primrose, 95 from Madoka, and 90 from Samuel. “An average of 94.3! Great teamwork, Team Lilligant!”

Median Dia- Backstage again, Tsareena was carefully removing the items Alice had chosen for her. She noticed you approach, and gave you a firm nod at your bow. You first showed her the Professor’s Hat which she seemed to agree with and let you place it on her head. When you pulled out the Witchy Hat she looked confused and moved to take the first hat off. However, when you put the witch hat in its placed, she looked like she understood. Trying not to let your hands shake, you placed the Gorgeous Flower on the queen’s neck, and she adjusted it accordingly. Tsareena softly closed her eyes as you placed the Square Glasses on that had been retrieved from being tossed into the audience. Finally, you handed the Unique queen the Magic Wand, which she was happy to wield. With another bow, you sent Tsareena on her way to her second appearance onstage.

“Now for her second appearance this evening! Stomping back on stage is Queen Tsareena!” called Peony from her place onstage. “This next outfit is Chroma’s creation!” Tsareena made her way on to the stage again and waved to the crowd. Upon reaching the center of the stage, she struck the ground with the magic wand. Keeping it in place, she walked a wide circle around it, finishing with a kick of her leg. She then blew a kiss to the audience which was met with uproarious applause. The judges began to scribble down their scores and held them up one at a time. Primrose held up an 88, and two 80s came from Madoka and Samuel. “That gives Tsareena an average of 82.7 for this second outfit! Great work Chroma and Tsareena!”

Myahoo- Bellossom was the last Queen to be presented on stage. While you and Fawn decided on her outfit, she practiced choreography for how she would dance onstage. You rifled through the accessories, picking up and putting down different items. You make your way over with your items and Bellossom looks excited, clapping her little hands together. You tied the Crimson Scarf around Bellossom’s neck. She pointed from it to the flowers on her head, indicating that they matched. She then moved her arms out of the way to let you tie the Frilly Apron around her waist. You then handed her the Red Parasol, which she rested on her shoulder while holding it with both hands. Before you sent her onstage, Fawn suggested you finish off the outfit with the Headband. Bellossom seemed delighted by it as you placed it on her head.

“Introducing the matron of everything adorable, the flowery Queen Bellossom! Aww!” Peony squees as she sees Bellossom make her way onto the stage. “This ensemble is put together by Jess!” Bellossom sways her hips from side to side, making a swishing noise with her leaves. She performed a short dance sequence involving a lot of jumping and opening and closing the parasol. At the end of her dance she curtseys with the apron. She then takes off the crimson scarf and dances around with it while twirling it in the air. She lets out a burst of Magical Leaves before making her way off stage. There was plenty of applause while everyone waited for the judges to write down their scores. A 90 was held up by Primrose, an 80 from Madoka, and 85 from Samuel. “A solid average of 85! Wonderful, Jess and Bellossom!”
-------
The audience cheers out the name of their favorite contestants, and chanting starts for each team. Peony takes center stage and gestures to the judge table. She gives a sign to the crowd to quiet down.
“Ok everyone, that is the end of the pageant round! Thank you so much for your participation!! Now I want to hand things over to Petunia for the announcement of the final results! Bye!!!” Peony gives a peace sign and a wink and skips off stage.
