My friends and I burst into song during the last Chemistry Lab today. We decided that Toto's Africa and I'll Make a Man out of You from Mulan would be a good idea to sing in the middle of the experiment.
So much fun. |

Trying to find a good cover of this song and not having much success. Which is a shame since I really like the acoustic guitar. Best I can come up with is this, which is at least better than Miku's vocals. (Although it sounds like she's hiccuping at some parts...)

Last night, I decided to check back in on that one karaoke show I discovered several months ago, Karaoke Battle. While I haven't found any new videos of amateurs challenging professionals at their own songs, there have been a ton of uploads of other episodes in the program since last time.
One amateur in particular does a pretty remarkable job of not just hitting the notes (that's all well and good, and is after all the name of the game in karaoke) but in sounding like a gift as she does. As Mizumori Kaori notes, "I wondered to myself if you were actually Ayaka, so good was your singing, so spot on was the atmosphere." Judge for yourself! The original: Ayaka The amateur: Ishikawa Maho (start around 2m00s) On the one hand, I worry that record labels would pass over a girl like Maho, thinking that the market only needs one Ayaka and that the industry is in the business of looking strictly for new sounds. On the other hand, I wonder if Maho won't be scooped up by a rival recording label ASAP as it basically allows them to "steal Ayaka" from Warner Music without having to outbid Warner / without having to buy Ayaka out of her contract with Warner Music Group. Still. While the amateur performance may not sound 100% as good as the professional performance, it's worth noting that the professional performance was likely one of dozens of recordings performed in a professional recording studio; that AutoTune was likely employed; etc. This girl had none of those benefits. Her performance is live, she only gets one shot, and she nailed it.

Ridiculously good, especially considering how long it's been since the original came out. So sad I never got to see these guys perform live...

So, one of my favorite bands, Anberlin... they recently announced they're breaking up and releasing their final album, which comes out next week. They've basically said they don't want to fade into obscurity (anymore than they already have) and want to go out with some semblance of relevance still, so they're ending the band on their own terms.
I've already given it a listen, and it's very much a heavy, sullen album. This is one of my favorite songs off of the album. The problem is, I want to listen to it a lot, but I get sort of sad every time I hear it just because of how moody the instrumentation is. |

Meat Loaf is pretty great. I like "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)." I had no idea that the radio cut is significantly shortened, and the original album version is a 12 minute long epic!

These covers of Tell Your World. I still don't care much for Vocaloid - especially Miku - but hearing it on a dance game at CC today after running into a Kagepro cosplayer just kinda made my day. <3

What do people not listen to music anymore? Double posteeee
So i've always had this idea for an anime in my head (its written down somewhere on my laptop) that revolves around the Zombie genre. None of this Highschool of the dead shit. In a post-outbreak world, society is cut off into sections, and is rigorously controlled by the military forces. Anyone who disobeys the laws of the new society is thrown to the outside world (zombies aaaargh) to fend for themselves. [Main Character] is caught stealing from a meat cart to feed him and his little brother, who society seemed to have forgotten, and is trialled and thrown into the outside world. Whilst out there, he meets a group of people who live freely in the zombie infested world, and joins up with them, and learns what it is like to live in the 'real' world, facing difficult situations and cruel, emotional losses. You get the picture. Well, its probably not an idea that would ever come to fruition since I can't draw manga, my grammar is sub-par so I couldn't write a book, and I'm not Japanese. But its a little idea I've had in my head and it seems like it would make for a good series. Anyway, I found a song that would be PERFECT for an opening, from the lyrics to the feel of the song. I've been imagining all my characters doing their opening thing whilst the song is playing and now I can't get enough of it. Mindgush over, here is that song: Foreground Eclipse - From Under Cover Its also really fun to play on Osu! if anyone plays it: Osu! Map tl:dr I have an idea for an anime and this song would be a good fit for the opening. |

I've been flipping between two Vocaloid songs recently. One is Lonely Shit (wherein Miku doesn't actually sound too bad), and the other is a lovely summer song Cibbir introduced me to: Earphones and a Chorus of Cicadas (help I've been converted to the church of IA). Creates a weird whiplash though. ^^; DESPAIR-HOPE-DESPAIR-HOPE. OTL
