Major Pokémon news in 4 days! [Up: Poké NintenDirect tommorow]
Pokémon's official north american website, pokemon.com has updated with a countdown notification stating major news is coming in 4 days. The official Pokémon english twitter account also makes mention of this. This coincides with info out of japan that something big'll be announced on January 8th. If ya all remember, B/W & B2/W2 got quick, practically same-day press releases in the west as they were unveiled in japan. So what news could be so big that they're preparing for a global announcement and countdown?! Update: Pokémon focused Nintendo Direct to broadcast on January 8th at 6 a.m. EST, 11 a.m. GMT (12 noon CET), and 20:00 JST Europe: http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Misc-/Nint...ct-698557.html Japan: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/pokemon/di...108/index.html North America: http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-dir...ve/01-08-2013/ Last edited by Lindz; 01-08-2013 at 03:22 AM. |

Possibility #1: Gen 3 remakes
This would make me very sad. If they're going to re-do Gen 3, I'd much rather it get the red carpet treatment of the eventual Gen 6 rather than the shitty graphics treatment of Gen 5. I'd rather have a Gen 4 engine remake of Gen 3 than a Gen 5 engine remake, so this would be the most disappointing development for me. Possibility #2: a main series game announcement for something other than the Nintendo DS and 3DS This strikes me as pretty unlikely given Nintendo's tendency to not share their first party cash cows with others (Apple, Google, Sony, whomever) and GameFreak's stubborn refusal to develop for home consoles like the GameCube or Wii. But who knows? Maybe the winds have finally changed and GameFreak Possibility #3: Gen 6 I doubt it, considering Gen 5 hasn't been around for as long as Gens 2, 3, and 4 were before they were retired. But who knows. Perhaps Nintendo pressured GameFreak to urgently make a 3DS-exclusive Pokémon game to further promote the 3DS. Possibility #4: anything else! Maybe this announcement will have nothing to do with the video games. It could very well have something to do with any of the following:
My gut instinct says Possibility #1 is correct. But if it is, I will be sad.

An no its not gonna be Gen III remakes/sequels. I stand by my age old stance that they're not gonna start new hardware without a new generation. Also its not to soon for a new gen in japan. If the supposed Gen VI is coming this year over there it'll prolly release in fall, 3 years after they got B/W. My Pokémon Ranch U? |

Pokemon prints money. I doubt this will happen.
Probably a remake, or new Stadium game. Maybe with some shiny fancy features on the Wii U. |

Pokémon Snap 2 would be pretty awesome. Would make use of the Wii U interface very nicely. TV screen = the world inside the game, Wii U gamepad screen = what you see out of your camera's viewfinder. It's not rocket science, and would be a huge improvement over the original formula.

I have to say that Snap 2 is about the only thing that I would probably get excited about. Maybe if it's Gen VI, but I find that fairly unlikely.

I predict (in order of what is most likely to happen IMO)...
1. Gen 3 remakes for 3DS 2. New console game, Stadium/PBR-esque 3. Gen 6 4. Main series game for console 5. Tied between being able to play original 1st and 2nd gen games on iPhone/Android and new Colosseum/XD game for Wii U

Gen III remakes would be my first guess, although I'm none too thrilled by the idea. I don't really touch Gen III or IV at all these days.

Gonna go off the deep end here and, just because it would be hilarious if it turned out to be correct, I'mma guess Pokemon Black & White 3.
But it's probably SunRuby and SeaSapphire for the 3DS.

I'm definitely thinking either Gen 3 remakes or them announcing a new spinoff series.

Putting my eggs in the remake basket. I'd like to say they're doing something new with the anime but with the N saga starting soon I doubt it'll be anything anime.

He's 26! Still too young for a midlife crisis though...
I've had a long read through Serebii and Bulbagarden and I'm willing to bet this is either a Generation VI announcement or something entirely new. This announcement has been plastered on Pokemon's homepage accross multiple countries Source I also read an interview on Pokéjungle in which one of the Game Freak developers confirmed they originally wanted to produce BW2 on the 3DS so the likelyhood of them continuing to develop on such an old console seems unlikely.
Black/White and their sequels are my least favourite games in the main series by a longshot, so whilst this Gen doesn't feel as satisfying as the ones before it, I welcome Gen VI with open arms. Pokémon has had a really jarring transition from 2D to 3D so I just hope this game gets the gameplay/ascetics down first rather than introducing a record breaking number Pokémon (most of which are U-G-L-Y).

I had no idea there was a TCG Online for Pokemon.
That would have been my guess if I hadn't read Lindsay's post - a new DS TCG game.

So something originally posted on serebii is causing quite the stir. Probably a horrible rumor (that's what I'm sure of) but might be interesting to see if any of this turns out to be right.

That is pretty startling, though I doubt GF would make such radical changes all at once, and they really wouldn't tolerate an employee giving things away right before their big announcement. I'm thinking this is most certainly fake. As for my prediction, Ruby/Sapphire remakes. Gen V hasn't been around that long, and its typically been around 8-12 months after before they come out with a new main series game (this may or may not be true, I haven't actually looked at the release dates). It would also follow with how they did HG/SS between Platinum and B/W.

Laughably fake. Else laughably terribad and time to abandon ship ... AGAIN. But no, seriously, he lost me at "Yeah, I'm Whitey McWhiterson and I totes do contract work for GameFreak on their super special awesome flagship titles." Yes. Because the infamously super-tight knit cell of 50 employees that is GameFreak totally outsources their project workload on main series games to 3rd party contractors. Maybe you can submit an ice cream cone to be a shitty Pokémon that way (OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!), but rendering the 3D models for the real games? I don't think so. That's only ever happened with Colosseum-type titles, titles GameFreak passed the buck on for one reason or another.
So I quit reading. Saw Haymes' post. Said "Oh fine. " Loaded link again. Skimmed mega-fast. Landed on "Digital type." Read the description. And kaboom, headshot to this rumor's credibility, "... and it confers a 4x weakness to every single thing the Pokémon was already 2x weak to." Not only is that a stupid idea period, but it's specifically an idea that I can believe could only come from a child who has no appreciation for the fact that if GameFreak were to invent an 18th type after ten years, they sure as the sun will rise tomorrow would not make it a type that says "lolol 4x weaknesses EVERYWHERE! YOUR FAVORITE, GUYS! " Yes. Because that's exactly what Grass needs: a 4x weakness to Fire, Bug, Flying, Ice, and Poison. Because being 2x weak to five things simply wasn't crippling enough. "GO, DI-DIGI-CHIA! USE SNUFFYOURSELFOUT ATTACK!"
