Because everyone can access all allowed Pokémon in the FF tier on Showdown regardless of whether they have a 2/3DS with all the games needed to get all the FF allowed Pokémon.

And Showdown allows for easy tournaments that the host can easily check upon with Replays.

I don't have Pokemon X or Y, so it would be pretty dumb for me to arrange a tournament that I wouldn't be able to participate in. Plus, its easier than having to get everyone arranged on their 3DSs. Like I said, if you are unfamiliar with Pokemon Showdown, I am more than willing to help.

Zekrom I gave you the link to the first post which was a clear list of what is allowed and what is not. Please read.

I'm not a big fan of the Item Clause, is there a particular reason why it's added in? :O

Because its standard?

A lot of people think that an Item Clause helps to foster creativity, which it does to an extent but not like people think it should(use things like the type resist berries!....yeah no). The problem was without the item clause, the tier would be Life Orb and Eviolite. With only one item though, NFEs were basically restricted to one. So we compromised.

Item Clause is a standard Nintendo rule, you know, the official official rules?

Not that I've played comp for over three years, but Item Clause was never even remotely standard back then.

Also aren't official Nintendo rules the clusterfuck that is VGC?

I don't personally like the idea of an Item Clause either, but this is one of the relics from the old incarnation and I decided to keep it. Two Pokemon per item isn't too heavily restrictive either.

I'd be fine with a maximum of two of the same item, since that allows you to run two walls with Leftovers, but if you want full Item Clause I'll grudgingly accept it.

I haven't played "competitive" on a handheld since GSC
But Item Clause has been an official Nintendo rule since way more than 3 years back. Not talking about Smogon mind you, Item Clause is not a Smogon rule.

But than again, Smogon is just making up their own and people take those as official, I can understand certain people on YouTube getting upset for being yelled at for not using Smogon Rules while the event they play follows the official Nintendo rules

Wrong. Of the Kevin Spacey Lex Luthor "WRONG!" variety. ^^; Item Clause has been a Nintendo policy ever since the very first official video game championships to see items used. We didn't have items in Gen 1, so the 1999 and 2000 VGC tournaments that were Gen 1-based obviously didn't have an item clause (nor an additional 100 Johto Pokémon ), but every single tournament since then has had Item Clause.

I always used to play on my DS, I've only used simulators for the monotype tourney a couple of years back, and it let me use multiple items just fine and I've literally never read any 'official' rules from Nintendo :p

Dave...we aren't doing full Item Clause. We ARE doing max of two of the same item.

If we're talking about "see this post", then ...
Quote:
Item Clause: this box should be checked on P-O. Because P-O does not allow us to customize this, you are going to be restricted to having only one copy of an item per team. Originally I was going to let people have up to two (2) of the same item but P-O is all-or-none and we don't have the resources to make sure that people aren't spamming six Choice Scarfs or six Choice Bands, etc, so ... sorry. :\ But yeah, regular Item Clause is in effect.
From my 2011 Champion League tournament. Perhaps Pokémon Showdown is different. Perhaps modern P-O is different. I doubt either is. You're probably either going to have to accept the Item Clause's restriction of one copy per item or else you're going to have a hell of a time dealing with accusations of cheating when someone appears to have used 2+ Choice Bands or Choice Specs but points out that the fact that they only ever spammed the same attack before switching out or dying isn't proof of anything.

As for whether you like Item Clause or not, that's up to the tournament organizer and the people participating. In the case of a format like this, it's pretty much a guarantee that if you allow 6x Eviolite then you're going to get one kind of team out of people whereas if you only allow 1x Eviolite then you're going to get quite another. Whether the 6x Eviolite is more fun than the 1x Eviolite, again, that's up to you all to decide. But you can't act like Item Clause is just a pain in your side that brings nothing to the table. It can greatly alter the very makeup of the metagame.

See above and answer: does PS or P-O allow you to enforce this? If so, cool. If not ... have fuuuuuuuuun~ ;D

@Talon: PS, which we use for FF, does not enforce Item Clause at all.
Technically people can use 6 CB's if they want, but we trust people will follow the rules set up for the FF tier.
All battles are custom battles, and I don't believe ANY rule is enforced in custom battles on PS.

So yeah, it's a matter of trust.
