King Ghidorah- You'd certainly encountered some special Pokemon within the Cradle. A shiny Ariados, that top tier Rattata and then there was Kyurem and the White Lycanroc..... Yeah probably best not to divulge too much information on that pair. However, even the mention of a white Lycanroc perks Flora's interest.

"Wait a white Lycanroc? You tried to go up the Edelweiss didn't you? We've had reports of a white midnight Lycanroc leading a pack of Lycanroc that stop anyone trying to climb it. Wouldn't mind studying that thing closer, I have a feeling there's something more special about it than just its colour." Flora was right, but you weren't about to tell her that, were you?

Both Flora and yourself turn as you hear vehicles break outside. "That must be the delivery we've been expecting, come on, let's go see what they've got for us." You follow Flora back out into the main hall, just as a number of other Breeders Guild members push through the doors. In their arms and hanging off them are a number of Grookey, a quick count reveals there are ten of the Grass type monkeys. Once inside the Grass types spring from the Breeders, racing around the room, smacking everything cheerfully with their sticks. The Breeders laugh as they make their way over to Flora.

One of the breeders, a tall, scrawny looking man hands Flora a report. "Surprised they weren't more traumatized after being captured, the Hunters Guild members who took down the poachers are out searching for their troop as we speak. From what we can tell, there isn't really anything special about these guys but I guess the tests will clear that up. The only problem we had is we left one behind. Once we let it out of the cage it went wild, dashing off into the forest. It looked weird though, like no Grookey I've seen before. I was going to head back out and search for it once I've had some lunch."

"Thanks Andrew, go get something to eat then come back and see me, this lost 'Grookey' has me curious." Andrew nods and heads off with the other breeders, leaving you and Flora to deal with the goofy Grookey gang. "We need to calm this bunch down and get them into the lab. Probably won't have to keep them in there for long though, they all seem pretty healthy." Flora was in need of your assistance, how would you coerce the Grookeys?

Connor- The Honedge taking control of Marco and Athena was completely unexpected. At first glance, it had looked like this trial was all about attack. Get in the strongest hits, knock the Honedge out before they could knock you out. Sophie falters, there was no way she was hitting her friends with that Blast Burn, not even Marco. You nod to the Solosis, giving her the all clear to let the energy dissipate, you had another plan in mind. Raising your hands, you feign surrender as Sophie floats behind your back, preparing to retrieve Lancelot the Slowking, who you'd use along with Cain to hopefully disorientate the Honedge.

Such a tactic is unnecessary. For some reason, the Honedges release Marco and Athena from their hold before sheathing themselves and returning to their positions on the statues on either side of the room. Why? Marco and Athena shake their heads as their minds become their own again. Suddenly the magical sphere holding the Falinks trooper lets out a bright flash.

"Knowing when to attack is just as important as knowing when not to attack"

A deep, mysterious voice fills the chamber. As soon as it fades the magical sphere holding the Falinks trooper disappears, releasing the first of the Brass's squadron. The Brass marches across the room to meet his long lost companion. The pair nod to each other, before the Brass turns and the trooper falls in behind it.

You've passed the first trial and Falinks has gained a trooper! Falinks is now lvl 4 and has learnt the move Swords Dance!

Marco and Athena gained 2 levels!

Falinks links Falinks!

The Brass speaks to Sophie, who once again passes the message across to you. "It thanks you for reuniting it with its trooper, but there are still four more to go." You'd successfully completed the first challenge, just another four to go!

Yanmega Arboreal Cradle - 34

The Ancient Feywood

TheKnightsFury: While the clash of titans wages out of control you set your focus on making a difference in the battle ahead, getting sweet vengeance on your abductor in the process. Without his mystic powers to lean on the Mindbender is on the rocks and growing desperate, commanding his Grimmsnarl into a sacrificial rampage while bringing his Rapidash to close guard. Corvisquire was tuckered out from his enormous tour de force, leaving him an easy target for the foe’s opener. The familiar magic sends your mind back to the night of the sacrifice, the executioner ripping the spirits of your fellow Hunters clean from their vessels; while not so fatal this time, the sudden squeeze against the raven’s soul provokes a shrill squawk. He regains his composure quick enough, plumage combusting into Flame as he deftly Charges into the enemy’s gut, leaving him hanging on by the skin of his teeth.

With apparent knowing in his bloodshot eyes the beast drops down to its knees, head bowed as he falls into Surrender. In the face of defeat, he seemed fed up being one of the Mindbender’s pawns – giving Corvisquire pause in delivering his finishing blow. The split second of hesitation is all it takes, a dark muscle fibre creeping like a root in the underbrush and lashing skyward. The False flag was played perfectly, feathers ruffling from the blow as your ally is near knocked out of flight! It looks like the raven could be down for the count until he recovers mid fall, Smartly using the momentum built to deliver a fatal Strike and seal victory by a thread. Corvisquire gains 3 levels!

The celebrations are fleeting as the Rapidash shows less sign of letting up, repelling the advances of her enemies with Expanding Force – Armaldo skidding back a few paces while Ivysaur’s Sludge Bomb detonates in mid-air. The foe’s cerebral cortex was in overdrive and it was starting to show, visibly panting from exhaustion as your allies closed in. Sensing her fatigue, the ancient arthropod ups the ante with another Fury Cutter, jabbing the mind melding mare in the ribcage for a wicked blow. Ivysaur adds insult to injury with a Sludge Bomb barrage, exploding on impact and pushing her to the brink. The Mindbender was watching from the corner of his eye all the while: it was time to reveal his trump card.

The mare feebly canters to his fix and with his one good hand he brandishes his wand, the severed horn of his steed. He wasn’t about to spell cast, no – the magic had left his bones in the Aura Breaker’s midst. Instead, he returns the horn to its rightful owner. In the exchange a glimmer of pink catches your eye, like something was lodged in the broken end’s core. It slots in place all the same, a pinkish aura coursing from the power source down to the mare’s mane, a renewed magic you hadn’t seen since The Guardian muted their powers. The Mindbender needn’t utter the words, his steed knows what to do as she gallops off the battlefield and toward the battle between good and evil.

“Fools. I have spent hundreds of years preparing for this moment. The pair of you will not stop that which is fated.” You break from his sinister gaze and follow the steed’s gallop into the warzone, which was heating to cataclysmic proportions; the pure Zygarde sends the forest floor erupting with its Lands Wrath, channelling energy from Earth’s mantle to send the corrupted Zygarde reeling. The doppelganger ricochets back with a Shadow Break, ramming its target into an ancient tree which topples under their combined weight. The Guardian erects another Safeguard between the pair as they wrestle in the underbrush, expanding to create some breathing room. This does little to subdue the feral foe, its Shadow Shed melting the forcefield away like a fire against a sheet of ice. You pray the Rapidash is trampled in the crossfire but those hopes are quickly dashed as she breaks into a sprint, mane combusting with unrestrained fairy force.

The pony goes nuclear as she closes distance, multicoloured sparks flying from her thighs down to her hoofs, vaulting into the air and delivering a catastrophic Twinkle Tackle! The sparkling supernova sets the faewood alight, ripples of the explosion felt from even a spectator's distance. As hard as it is to watch you can't take your eyes away, dust settling on a beat and broken Rapidash at the foot of a Zygarde destabilising. Ivysaur gains 3 levels! Empoleon gains 2 levels! The impact had formed a crater on The Guardian's underside, cells decoupling and attempting to reform. The shadow Zygarde would spare no such chance, feasting on its weakened twin and putting a swift end to its resistance. Your heart starts to sink all over as the saviour is eaten alive, adding to the might of the beast cannibalizing on it. You fumble for a trump card of your own, a White Flute forged from the ashes of Mount Chimney. You press its mouthpiece against your trembling lips, blowing your lungs out until the blown glass instrument releases a faint whirring, an army of woodland critters sure to follow if you held the note for long enough...

“Xan…” Ammorith tugs at your shoulder, a look of pure defeatism behind his eyes. “I don’t think there’s anyone coming. The bird Pokemon were migrating away from the calamity when we arrived, I’m not sure if that was Zygarde’s doing but they’re likely long gone now. We’re out of options. We lost. The best we can do is capture the Mindbender and force him into undoing the spell before it’s too late. The old Hunters – some of them know ways of teasing a secret out of anyone.” Your eyes dart around desperately for a morsel of a better option. The Mindbender was on his knees, laughing maniacally. Unarmed, unguarded. Your mind echoes back to the question he put to you many moons ago, was this the moment he foresaw?

So Flora knew about the White Lycanroc already after all. Guess word travels through the Cradle; Hugo had to wonder what else she may already know about.

But know Hugo was tasked with calming a bunch of rowdy Grookeys. Sure, they were cute and certainly having a great time; but this was likely to be no easy task. Besides, we’ve all heard the stories about what monkeys do when they get angry…how they tend to fling…well, you know what they tend to fling, I don’t need to tell you. Actually, who am I anyway?

But enough existential dread. Hugo basically needed to calm them down. Sure, he had options. Some of his Pokemon knew Sleep Powder or Hypnosis and then he could just knock them comatose and drag them away. But Hugo wanted to try to avoid that if he could. Something just seemed kind of wrong about that; the Grookey were so cute, after all. Maybe he could try to help want to…play nice?

Hugo pulled a Pokeball from his waist and released Bounsweet. The Fruit Pokemon was as happy and cheerful as always upon seeing Hugo. It was kind of a bold strategy; releasing what was essentially a tasty meal with minimal available attacks into a gang of fussy apes, but Hugo had a plan.

“Bounsweet, we need to get these Grookeys to calm the hell down. There is work to be done. Why don’t you go and show these Grookeys how to Play Nice? Maybe once you set the example, they will be good little boy and girl monkeys.

Corvisquire reached lvl 28!
Ivysaur reached lvl 34!
Empoleon reached lvl 46!

Xander gritted his teeth as Corvisquire wrestled with Grimmsnarl. The evil goblin wasn't going down without a fight. Corvisquire was hang on by a thread after Grimmsnarl's False Surrender, but a final Smart Strike was enough to put the beast down. Rapidash wasn't proving as easy as he'd hoped however. The magical mare's Expanding Force shielded it against their first assault. Thankfully once it faded they were able to land some blows, but it wasn't enough to bring the Psychic type down. At the call of its master, the mare retreated to his side, so that it could be reunited with the snapped portion of its horn.....

Up until now, the Guardian and its shadowy Doppelganger had been evenly matched. That tide was about to turn though, as Mindbender revealed his trump card. Reuniting Rapidash with its horn gave it the power to use the Fairy typed Z Move, Twinkle Tackle. The mare throws itself at the Guardian with everything she has, dealing an incredible blow to the land snake. While the mare lies defeated on the ground, Zygarde's time appears to be up as well. The damage that Rapidash had dealt left it vulnerable, the Shadow Zygarde was now consuming it. It wouldn't be long before the Shadow Zygarde had fully consumed the Guardian, then Mindbender's judgement would finally come to pass. Xander blew on the White Flute, hoping to summon allies to their aid. Nothing, not a soul. Mindbender was on the ground, cackling like the crazed lunatic he was. That sick bastard had won, but that didn't mean he had to live to see his vision come to pass.

"IVYSAUR!" Xander shouted, "wrap him up and crush him with Power Whip", Xander charged towards the Lifebringer, he wanted to see the light fade from his eyes.

Taiko's Ground typing was really beneficial given one of your opponents was made of electricity, he just needed a better attacking option than Bulldoze. Thankfully there was one on offer and both you and Taiko pay close attention as Ty and his Tyranitar give you a quick lesson on how to use Earth Power. Confident you've got a good understanding of the process, you instruct Taiko to use the move. The Pupitar shakes as he gathers the necessary energy, however his first use of the move is underpowered and off the mark.

"Concentrate, the earth isn't an obstacle, its a conduit, work with it, not against it", Ty continues to offer sage advice. Meanwhile on the far side of the battlefield, Nikola continues his scouting mission. He lays out an Electroweb, hoping to feel vibrations through it. He latches onto the web, hoping to use it to pinpoint the location of the Elementals' power sources, but its almost impossible for him to distinguish. The Earth is vibrating far too much as Taiko continues his Earth Power attempts, although on a positive note, the Pupitar seems to be improving. It culminates in Tyranitar and Taiko slamming the electric elemental in unison.

Taiko learnt MT Earth Power

Their combined power is almost enough to overpower the serpent. As its power begins to fade, the source of its power comes into view. A glowing red sphere glows within electric elemental. While it was weakened, it wasn't down for the count yet. It's maw snaps open, letting out a long electrical tendril towards Tyranitar. The weathered Rock type catches it on its arm, only to realise it has made a mistake. The tendril begins to leech health from him, the Elemental was using Parabolic Charge! The twisting Flying Elemental sends blades of compressed air slicing towards you. Tyranitar and Taiko are forced to endure the barrage, thankfully shrugging it off without too much issue.

"Looks like that one is starting to struggle, just got to rip that power source from it now." Ty points out, "that other one doesn't want to go down though." The Flying Elemental roars as it begins to spin faster, growing larger and more powerful with each passing second.
Trainer and Pokemon paid close attention to Tyranitar’s move mastery – soon enough confident to practice, yielding mixed results. The first attempt missed its mark by a wide margin, going against the grain rather than flowing with it. Taiko was more matter over mind, but his metamorphosis would require training in both. The pubescent rock would rinse and repeat, this time managing to detonate the earth beneath the electrical entity. This elicited a brief power outage, the serpent’s electrical field faltering giving the tomb raiders a clear view of the battery tucked away inside. Emp grinned, but they weren’t out of the woods yet. Taking another lashing of thunder and wind the battle was far from won – but if they could pick off one the other would soon follow. The trainer was overcome with a mad brainwave, not sure if it would work no less if he could rope in the more conservative of his company.

He turned to the Hunter and indicated their two Pokemon: “Do you think you could have Tyranitar Throw Pupitar like a Rock directly at that core? We’ll try cracking it open with a Fissure on impact. If that doesn’t work, Pupitar will fall back on a Stomping Tantrum.” Once the trainer had conferred with the senior, he switched attention to his undercover operative, deciding a more direct approach might be the key to overcoming the elementals, “Light up the battleground with your Electric Terrain then aim for the eye of the storm with your Rising Voltage. Taiko, don’t let up – overwhelm that flying thing with your Ancient Power.”

Falinks links Falinks!

The Brass speaks to Sophie, who once again passes the message across to you. "It thanks you for reuniting it with its trooper, but there are still four more to go." You'd successfully completed the first challenge, just another four to go!

Sweeney was somewhat taken aback that nonaggression was the trigger to clearing the trial - and even Sophie seemed a little wary, the Solosis remaining primed for battle should things take a turn for the worse. Fortunately though, the captive Falinks was allowed to rejoin with it's brass in a strangely endearing moment. Marco and Athena are released, the former giving a surly look at the Honedge that had seized control of him. His disdain was justified, but it was clear that rather than having been robbed of his free will, he was annoyed at being denied the chance for cathartic stress relief. With their work done, Sweeney gives both Lancelot and Athena praise before returning them to their balls, making a mental note to reward each of them later. Athena especially deserved it.

With the trial cleared, Sweeney stretches. While he was right to anticipate a fight, the unexpected means of success had certainly put him on edge. Rash assumptions could easily lead to any of his party members getting hurt. He'd have to tread more cautiously next time. Looking to Sophie, the Bartender gave her explicit permission to stop Marco in his tracks in the event the situation call for it. Better to endure his grumbling than scramble to bail him out, given the stakes.

Considering his options, Sweeney moves back to the main room housing the trials. Glancing them over, still unable to properly judge what the third and fourth may entail, the trainer decides to adopt a methodical stance. Apprehensive but quietly optimistic, the trainer heads towards the Shield door.

Yanmega Arboreal Cradle - 35

The Ancient Feywood

TheKnightsFury: The immortal was on his hands and knees, pastel dreadlocks draped down his face as he fell into mad laughter. While it had cost him everything his masterplan had been realised. It was an end of days scenario upon the Arboreal Cradle. Its ultimate line of defence was destabilising before your eyes, the shadow serpent adding its cells to its own and growing in stature. There wasn’t much for it now but to retreat and pray for a miracle. But you could least of all make the Mindbender suffer; his vanguard was decimated, his aura neutralised. Throwing rational thought to the wind you allow a red mist to take hold, charging ahead bent on avenging all those fallen and soon to fall. Your war cry coaxes Ivysaur into action, four Vines unravelling from the flanks of her rosebud and ensnaring his arms and legs. Tightening her stranglehold, she raises him off the ground like a marionette – he would look you in the eye as his life slipped away. It would be a fitting end, mirroring your near death at his hands moments ago.

“Wait!” he gasps, face purple as his lungs fight against their compression, “Without me you will never undo what has been done!” It was his bargaining chip, but you wouldn't let him play with your mind any longer. The man’s death was thousands of years overdue and you weren’t about to let him slip away again.

“Xander! Believe me, I want him dead as much as you, but what if he’s right?” The Hunter’s words are enough to give you pause, Ivysaur sensing your hesitation and slacking her squeeze. It was difficult to know who had the right but you needed more time to hash it out. The deliberation is extinguished before it can even start – a nearby stir stealing your attention. It was the shadow Zygarde, undergoing a new metamorphosis as it ravages the last straggling cells of the fallen Guardian. Its serpentine body becomes its tail as a larger humanoid form rips free where its torso had been, hulking arms and legs flexing for the first time, sharp hexagonal claws unsheathed. Each shoulder grows a pair of serpentine wings while a head and crown gives rise in its centre. Its chest bares a thin zigzagged opening undulating shades of crimson. The titan levitates above the faewood, its mere presence evoking an apocalyptic blood moon in the sky.

T͏̱̼̻̰͓H̭RO͎͍̠O͎͍M!

“Kill them!” The Mindbender spat, “Save your master! Kill them all!” The madman appears to catch the sentinel’s attention. It halts its ascent and fixes on the scene with a penetrating glare. Your whole camp lock in fear as the Mindbender's lips twist into a smile – he would have the last laugh after all. You would run for the hills if your legs weren’t turned to jelly, though it would make no difference as the Guardian’s body flared with a red aura, a blazing pulsar swelling ahead of it. It’s burn is too intense for you to keep your eyes open, wincing as you ready for death’s scorching embrace.

Spoiler: show

The beam razes through the land disintegrating everything in its path, vegetation impermeable to fire turning to ashes under its pure annihilation. This must have been the power to sap life from landscape that the Mindbender eluded to, the antithesis of the Guardian’s natural power. You open your eyes to find your body not reduced to atoms, but spared entirely. It seemed the simple provocation of the titan was enough to seal the Mindbender’s fate, with not so much as a trace of his being left behind. Due to the erratic trajectory of the beam only an unfortunate few are caught in its devastating crossfire, your teammates spared oblivion through some fortunate twist of fate. The same couldn’t be said for Ammorith, rushing to the charred stretch where Armaldo had been to find his friend fossilised. He collapses to the ground in tears, holding the petrified claw that remained tight to his chest. While Ivysaur barks as she reels in her severed vines, they would regrow in no time – but there was no telling if the Hunter would ever see his partner again.

It became clear the fallen Guardian’s mercy was a happy accident as it powered up its Core Enforcer once more. But something stifled in its charge, the concentration of energy dissipating before it can rain oblivion. It seemed a powerful Disable charm had been cast on the beast, its maker coming into view from above with tenacious speed. In fierce guard of your company was a black, bulky body with thickset arms, topped with a red wooden shell adorned with white and yellow tribal markings. The mystical beast expelled a huff of steam from its ringed nostril, its tail ringing like a cowbell as it commanded your attention:

The spell won’t hold for long – gather your belongings and climb aboard!

The dumbstruck Hunter rises to his feet with his Claw Fossil in hand, while you hurry to recall your team and scan the perimeter for any valuables in the spare seconds before departure. The titan’s wrath had burnt a trench through the land in the shape of a backwards 'Z' sparing nothing in its warpath but a few remains of the Mindbender’s henchmen: an Imp Skull , Unicorn Horn and Fairium Z . There was no satisfaction to be taken from their demise, despite the torture they had inflicted on your friends and countless others – the blood was ultimately on their deceased master’s hands. How their remnants had survived the calamity was anyone’s guess, but perhaps it would be worth prizing them from the ashes.

Xander was filled with rage. Blinding, unrelenting rage. Ivysaur tightened her hold on the Mindbender, who tried to bargain for his life. Xander sneered, he didn't think the bastard would be that desperate or foolish. He had shown no mercy, why did he deserve any? Despite Ammorith trying to pull him away, Xander was ready to finish the job, but then.....

Shadow Zygarde had obtained its Complete form. Rising into the air, the corrupted Guardian unveiled the power that Mindbender had hoped to control. A powerful beam of energy powerful enough to tear through the forest, vaporising everything caught in its path. Xander threw up his arms as the beam lashed towards them, incinerating Mindbender as Ivysaur recoiled her damaged vines. The jagged beam cut through the landscape in an instant, Xander looked around to check on his Pokemon. Corvisquire was untouched, Ivysaur's vines were damaged, but she was otherwise fine. Ammorith was in tears, clutching all that remained of his Armaldo. The fossilized claw wasn't the worst result though, Scientists had been reviving Pokemon from fossils for decades now. It wouldn't be the same though, a life was lost, all the experiences Ammorith had been through with his Armaldo were now wiped from existence.

The shadow Zygarde was preparing to launch another attack, Xander had a feeling they wouldn't be lucky enough to escape its path again. Then, someone came to their aid. A burly protector disabled the corrupt Guardian momentarily, giving them an opportunity to retreat. "Is that, Tapu Bulu?" Xander was in disbelief, but nonetheless relieved to see the legendary Pokemon. Xander looked around, Corvisquire was closing in quickly, the skull of Grimmsnarl grasped between his talons. He recalled Ivysaur into her ball before scrambling over to grab both the Unicorn Horn and the Fairium Z Crystal. "Ammorith we've got to go, come on", Xander pulled at the distressed hunter, they had to go with Tapu Bulu now. He wasn't sure what their saviours plan was, but they needed to get clear before the Shadow Guardian launched another Core Enforcer.

The Ancient Feywood

TheKnightsFury: While the villain was wiped from existence, the final fight was just beginning. Tapu Bulu had found you in the nick of time, temporarily deactivating the Core Enforcer before you were wiped out too. This buys you a few seconds to scour the clearing for hidden gems before rushing to disembark. The unusual saviour offers a horn to hold onto and a hoof to rest your feet on, fitting both passengers snugly while Corvisquire would pull alongside. As threatened, the disabling charm doesn’t hold for long – Zygarde powering up like an engine restarting. Without warning the Land Spirit blasts off, narrowly beating the annihilation beam’s skyward trajectory as it approaches mach speed.

The loose skin on your face starts to ripple as your ride breaks the sound barrier, arms fastening around the antler for dear life. You struggle to catch your breath as the atmosphere thins, the Cradle a tapestry of forest from this altitude with the calamity a red blip against it; even in all its acres of immensity it wouldn’t sustain the fallen Guardian forever. Making a narrow escape Tapu Bulu decelerates to a more leisurely pace, allowing Corvisquire to draw level as you reapproach the lush jungles of Lythan'Torr. You wouldn’t be disembarking at the Leniazom Banks this time, your convoy setting course for the highest plateau of the rainforest, vision eventually completely obscured by mist as you made your approach. You come to land in a location lost to man, the Sanctum of the Guardian.

Welcome humans, to Del'Torr. You will find yourselves quite comfortable here, the Grassy Terrain will mend your wounds and nature’s bounty will fill your stomachs – eat up, you are malnourished!

While lacking any discernible mouth to speak from, their voice carried with a thick Alolan accent, and yet you imagine they had resided in these parts for millennia. Their abode was humble for a deity, ancient stone architecture weathered and mossy – the ruin overcome with vegetation entirely. Yet there was a mystical aura about the place like nothing you had felt before, your feet tingling as they pressed into the grass for the first time, its energy revitalising your weak bones. The enchanted trees and tresses begin to branch your way to offer ripe fruit and nuts, sating your hunger. It was a type of luxury you hadn’t been afforded in months, yet you sense your stay here will be fleeting – the Guardian getting straight to business.

I was privy to the madman’s presence in my land and watched the events unfold from afar, but it is not the place for Guardians to interfere with the matters of humans. I regret to say that I allowed him to slip under my radar until it was too late. Once he left this forest he was out of my jurisdiction, and it is not the way for one Guardian to encroach on the territory of another. But as you can see, this is an event that will doom the entire Cradle if left unchecked.

He leads you through the temple corridors to an oasis highlighted by an ancient tree dappled in golden sun. It wasn’t as leafy as the typical rainforest fare, but featured five wildflowers reminiscent of the colours on your Hunter’s badge. While the others were in full bloom, you notice the pinkish flower starting to wilt.

Five lands, one Cradle... Each ecosystem is unique yet they are branches of the same tree – disturbing one has consequences on the others. The Zalfarthasis is the wellspring of all life in the Cradle. Trees older than time standing undisturbed for generations, as it should be. The Guardians placed mystical protections on the faewood for this very reason; its destruction will set off a chain reaction that will spell the end for billions of lifeforms.

The Zalfarthasis is vast enough to endure the corrupted beast, but not for much longer. I may have allowed these events to transpire in my dormancy, but together we can still put an end to the destruction. But first, we must perform a ritual that will allow us to set the Guardian’s corruption into reverse.

“You mean you can do that? The Mindbender said there was no undoing the spell.” Tapu Bulu gives Ammorith a playful bonk on the head, the Hunter regretting his question immediately.

Silly human, of course I can! The madman’s magic is powerful but he is still just a man. But for it to be undone I need to know exactly how it was done. The relic used to turn Zygarde to the Shadow, was there a trade of sorts? For the purification ritual to work, we must trade something back of equal or opposite value.

Your mind plays back to the blood sacrifice, the souls sucked clean from their vessels. It was death that had sealed the deal, so what could you offer in return? Perhaps with Tapu Bulu’s sacred magic there was an opportunity to return your fallen friends from the ashes. But there was no telling where their bodies lay, and whether they could be revived with their souls still trapped elsewhere. With time of the essence you rack your brain for ideas...

They were transported across the Cradle at breakneck speed. Tapu Bulu had taken them back to the Lythan'Torr. Was Xander managed to catch his breath properly, they followed the Guardian up to the highest reaches of the rainforest, its sanctum, Del'Torr. Xander could feel the effects of the Grassy Terrain immediately. It seemed to pump vitality into him, he could feel it coursing through his body, his wounds gradually healing. Xander released his Pokemon out to enjoy the bounty, Empoleon, Ivysaur, Dreepy and Corvisquire all began to gorge themselves on the cornucopia of fruit.

Xander listened as Bulu explained why it hadn't acted sooner. He wasn't exactly pleased to here that the Guardian was aware of the Mindbender's presence yet chose not to act. What? It was alright for him to tear through the Lythan'Torr, committing unspeakable acts but corrupting Zygarde was a step too far? Everything he'd been through could have been prevented if Bulu had the balls to put a stop to Mindbender before he'd managed to collect all of his strength. Xander took a deep breath. He couldn't afford to dwell on it, the Guardian was here now and with its help, they might just be able to purify Zygarde before the entire Cradle was destroyed.

"Mindbender's ritual was, something I'd sooner rather forget, but if the details could help us undo what he did, I'll do my best." Xander closed his eyes, concentrating as he did his best to recall that horrible night. "He gathered us all around a fire, his Grimmsnarl ripped the spirits from our companions, fuelling the fire. He then tossed a silver umbra into the fire and voices spoke out to him. In exchange for his sacrifice, he received this shadowy cube that he used to draw in the Zygarde Core and Cells, creating his first Shadow Zygarde hound....." Xander was surprised he remembered so much, considering everything his mind had been through. "Mindbender used life to fuel his ritual, does that mean we need to use death to break it?" How could they use death? He'd recovered Grimmsnarl's skull and Rapidash's horn, could they work? Ammorith had his claw fossil. What else did he have? Xander flipped his bag off his back and began to go through it. Berries, potions, various held items, Dark Diancie Gem, his mum's Sacred Ash......

"Wait, Tapu Bulu, could this help?" Xander pulled out the small pouch of Sacred Ash. "My mum gave me this before she died, she said it was a gift to her from Ho-oh, the fire phoenix of the Johto region. "Grimmsnarl was the one responsible for the spirit offering, perhaps its needed in order to reverse the offering?" Xander pulled out the Imp Skull. The idea of reviving the murderous monster sent a shiver down his spine, but if Tapu Bulu thought it could help to save Zygarde, did he have another choice?

Del'Torr

TheKnightsFury: You piece through the painful memories providing the Guardian with valuable the clues it needed to perform the ritual in reverse. If it was death that fuelled the Mindbender’s relic, then it would be new life that fuelled your’s. Its blue eyes study you curiously, homing in on the sacred ash and clopping its hoofs together agreeably, ready to get down to business:

So it is written, so it shall be done. A rebirthing ritual will help us find the light in the dark.

Ammorith clenches his fossil wistfully, “You know, when you mentioned the chance of bringing someone back from the dead, my first thought of course went to Armaldo. But if reviving that monster might come with a chance of bringing back the fallen Hunters, well, of course I’m not going to say no to that. For what it’s worth, I think you’re making the right decision.” It was the reassuring words you needed to press ahead, the hollow skull holding its sinister glare even in death. The beast had tried to kill you on numerous occasions, there was no telling how it would react in being pulled from its afterlife.

I require more of you, boy – a vessel to harness the sacred energy created. Perhaps an artefact you have been carrying all along. Once the relic is made, we must purify one of the creature’s cores. I sense its cells scour the Cradle, even now in their corrupted state.

While the bulk of its essence wreaks havoc on the Zalfarthas it has eyes everywhere, searching for us. Tell me – you have travelled lands far beyond mine, could you spare your Pokemon to retrace your steps for any sign of its cells? With all my power I cannot be in two places at once – I must prepare for the ritual and time is of the essence.

Xander was pleased to here that Ammorith agreed with his choice. He'd make sure to give the Hunter the details for the Hatchery, they'd be able to revive an Anorith from his Claw Fossil at least. The Imp Skull and Sacred Ash would work, however, Tapu Bulu still required more. It needed something to harness the energy from the rebirthing, much like the silver umbra harnessed the energy from the sacrifice. Something ancient, that Xander had been carrying for quite some time......

Xander pulled a strange rock out of his bag. He'd found it while dealing with the illegal mining/slavery operation, when he'd tried his hardest to save Diancie. "Would this work?" There was something odd about the stone which made Xander hold onto it, he just hoped that this was its intended purpose.

The Shadow Zygarde already had scouts out looking for them, they needed to locate the cells. Xander couldn't remember seeing any cells on his travels, but perhaps it was because he wasn't looking for them at the time? Xander thought back to the first place he visited in the Cradle, the Titan's Butte....
"Wait, there was that little...", Xander could recall it now, but where else...
"Again at Dead Man's Rest, then at the Oasis. Then, more recently, that morning we left the Hunters Guild and when we were on the river!" He could only recall seeing five cells, but it was a start. "Corvisquire, you need to fly out to Hallows and check for the cells at Titan's Butte, Dead Man's Rest and the Oasis. Dreepy, head back along the river and check for the one there and then back at the Hunter's Guild." The pair nodded, having eaten their fill, they were ready to get back to work.

"Tapu Bulu, do we have everything we need now? I feel like we can't afford to wait much longer, that Shadow Zygarde doesn't take me as the patient type..." Xander was placing all of his confidence in Tapu Bulu's ritual, every ounce of hope he had left was pouring into it. This had to work....

King Ghidorah- Getting these Grookey into line was likely going to be more difficult than it looked. You could straight up knock them out with a Sleep Powder or something, except Powder moves don't work too well on Grass types.... You veer away from that plan and instead decide to have one of your Pokemon set a good example for them. You release Bounsweet from her ball, well aware that this plan could backfire horrible should the Grookeys decided she'd make a better snack than a leader!

You instruct the Alolan native to Play Nice, showing the rambunctious monkeys that there is more than one way to play. It takes a while for her to get the attention of the Grass typed Monkeys, but eventually something draws their attention to her, her scent....

The Monkey's rush over to Bounsweet, you fear the worse! However, as they go to put their grubby hands on her, Bounsweet spins, knocking them away. The Monkey's get up rubbing their heads. They stand in a line in front of her as she lays down the ground rules, who would've guessed the little Bounsweet could be so commanding? Testing her troops, Bounsweet bounces to the left. The Grookey copy her. She bounces back to the right and the Grookey copy her again. Confident that her crew will now Play Nice, Bounsweet turns back to you, ready for the next part of her task.

"Wow", Flora giggles, "that was almost as impressive as it was unexpected, well done Bounsweet! If you would be so kind as to lead them into the lab, we'll do a quick DNA test and let them out into the sanctuary."

Emp- With the Electric Elementals power source located, all you had to do now was dislodge it and destroy it, just like you'd done with the Rock one. In order to do that, you come up with a possibly brilliant plan. "Alright kid, we'll give it a shot." Ty agrees to give your strategy a go. With a nod, he gives his Tyranitar the all clear to pick up your Pupitar. The fully evolved Rock type generates energy around Taiko, before launching him at blistering speed. The Pupitar lets out a blast of compressed gas, increasing his acceleration as he streaks towards the Electric Elemental.....

The Flying Elemental does something completely unexpected. It drives one of its swirling limbs into the Electric Elemental, prying from power source from it a fraction of a second before Taiko can strike his mark. The vibrating Pupitar crashes into the ground, creating a Fissure that almost consumes poor Nikola. The Flying Elemental brings the electric core into its own body, fusing itself with the electrical energy. The sky turns black as thunderclouds gather, lighting strikes dance between the clouds as rain begins to pour down onto the battlefield. The hybrid Flying/Electric Elemental takes the form of a living thundercloud, its maw crackling with electricity. Nikola sets up an Electric Terrain, but that could very well prove to be a mistake.

"Arceus damn it, didn't see that coming", Ty grumbled. "Stone Edge Tyranitar, take it down!" A glistening blue pillar of stone erupts in front of Tyranitar. With a swing of its tail it sends slithers of stone peppering into the living thundercloud. Taiko launches an Ancient Power while Nikola unleashes an amplified Rising Voltage, both attacks hit their mark but don't seem to trouble the elemental too much. A tremendous bolt of lighting lances out from the elemental, striking Tyranitar in the chest as the Thunder rings. A condensed blast of air smashes into both Taiko and Nikola, the sheer strength of it forces them back, however both manage to hold on. This storm seemed almost unrelenting, although with the strength of two power sources, that shouldn't really be surprising. You needed to get your hands on the power sources, but how?

Connor- You'd successfully completed the first trial, something worth celebrating but there were still four more to go. You make your way back to the main chamber, giving Sophie permission to stop Marco in his tracks should he decide to rashly race off again. The Pancham had gotten himself in trouble twice now, he might not be so lucky the third time around.

Back in the main chamber, you're still uncertain what the third and fourth trials could be. You had a fair idea about the second one though and tackling them in order seemed like the logical thing to do. You head done the path with the shield carved above it, cautiously optimistic about your chances...

The path continues for a short time before opening into a poorly lit chamber. The only real source of light in here is the faint glowing sphere holding the Falinks trooper on the far side of the chamber. Once again the trooper was floating over a small alter, however there was some strange drawing on the wall behind it. The red lines seemed to take the form of a serpent. Suddenly, a singular eye opens, glaring straight at you! Whatever it was, it didn't seem like it was preparing to attack yet, but time would likely tell.

The Falinks Brass once again speaks up to Sophie, who passes on the message to you. "It says good luck", Sophie's message from the Falinks is short this time, but apparently it thinks you'll need it.

”Great job Bounsweet!” Hugo says to his Pokemon, the little mangosteen clearly proud of what she was able to accomplish with the Grookey gang. But they were only half done. The monkeys were following Bounsweet’s directions – for now – but Hugo suspected something would distract them and derail the progress they made if he was not careful. He had an idea, but Bounsweet was likely going to need reinforcements.

Hugo pulled another Pokeball from his waist and released Elekid. The Electric type was pleased to be include, white sparks briefly surging between the prongs on his head.

“Alright, gang,” Hugo announced to the group of Pokemon. “let’s keep this party going! Who’s ready for a…”

Hugo pulled out his cellphone and quickly played some music.

“CONGA LINE!”

The music seemed to startle the Pokemon a bit, but soon everyone was bopping to the rhythm.

“Bounsweet! Elekid! Show these Grookeys how it’s done!”

Happy to oblige, Bounsweet began bouncing in place. Elekid stood behind her and placed his hands on her…shoulders?...and than they slowly began to make their way forward; Bounsweet leading the way with Elekid following her movement.

“Alright! That’s the way to do it! Now which of you Grookeys is ready to join in on the fun! Come on, let’s go! Bounsweet, lead the way! Elekid, why don’t you bring up the rear? Grookeys in the middle! Onward! To the lab!”

In the midst of the commotion, Hugo briefly pulled Elekid aside. “Play nice and have fun, but if the any of the Grookeys start to get too out of hand, don’t be afraid to give them a little zap. But only if absolutely necessary. Otherwise, let’s just get them to the lab. Got it?”

Elekid nodded.

Entering the chamber for the second trial, Sweeney is immediately perturbed by the dim cavern. That the only lighting emanated from the pod entrapping the Falinks squad member was going to be a pain. Sophie shares his sentiments, a disgruntled sigh reverberating through the mind of the Bartender.

Unfortunately, they were not given much time to ruminate on their predicament. Without warning, a piercing eye stares right at the group, setting a chill running down Sweeney's spine. He could handle most things, but situations like this set him on edge. It felt akin to a trope-y horror flick, instilling a definite caution within the trainer. The nearly ominous wish of good luck from Falinks only serves to leave him more nervous, crossing him arms to consider the options. It would be best not to trigger whatever it was that the eye was watching out for, but dealing with the darkness was a high priority. Deciding to approach the problem one step at a time, Sweeney reaches into his backpack to find the Friend Ball holding Ivy. Bringing the Bellsprout out, Sweeney cringes a little as the Bellsprout garishly announces his presence, dramatically posing with his leaves. Giving him a moment to adjust to the lack of response, Ivy huffily looks towards Sophie, expecting orders to be passed on by the Solosis.

Marco, meanwhile, has other ideas. Just as Sophie is instructing Ivy to illuminate the surroundings with a Flash, Marco is glaring back at the eye. How dare it challenge him so brazenly? He'd fought much tougher opponents than this puny thing.

As he does almost everything, Marco stomps forwards without thinking, intending to clear the room and strike the eye with a Foul Play.

Hmph. Emp could only watch as his strategy crumbled like the temple fixtures under their continued bulldozing. Pupitar went hurtling through thin air as the Flying Elemental rescued its brother within an inch of destruction, the gems fusing into something greater than the sum of its parts. Black clouds sprawled across the sky, billowing in from all directions. The first crack of lightening rent the air and within seconds the rolling boom of thunder reverberated overhead. The extreme weather wasn’t near as imposing as the raging deluge above, sparks dancing down its body as it shot an hostile snap at the intruders. Emp went to belay Nikola’s command, but it was too late – the Helioptile creating an electrical field which was about as disastrous as throwing water on a chip pan fire.

The battler’s weathered lightning and hurricane as the force of nature upped its ante. Skidding back, they would need to disable the power sources and fast. It wasn’t just their lives at risk, the ancient temple would likely topple if the extreme conditions persisted. Emp racked his brain again, even a cloud as black and thunderous as this had to have a silver lining. While it had doubled its strength, the concentrated mass would make for an easier target. With the right amount of pressure, they could get that beast to crack.

“Nikola, Magnet Rise to get above that thing then deploy an Electro Web to fix it in place, or at least slow its movement. Taiko, charge your Meteor Beam – fire at its core once your ally is out of the line of fire.” He turned to Ty with shaken confidence – every plan he'd devised to overcome the elementals had blown up in their faces, there was no reason to believe this one would turn out any better. “I’m not all that sure we’ll get the perfect shot alone so anything you can do to help on that front would be appreciated!”

TheKnightsFury: You had a lot weighing on Tapu Bulu’s wood-clad shoulders, putting all your hopes (and inventory) into its ancient magic. With your rucksack a little lighter, your party amble back to the sanctum’s foothills where you would deploy Corvisquire and Dreepy on their final scouting mission. You pluck a handful of coordinates from your memory – all appropriate dwellings for a shadow cell – and with that their silhouettes disappear into the hazy horizon, the assignment equatable to finding a needle in a haystack. Time was of the essence and with so many moving parts required to make this work, your patience was worn paper thin, anxiety taking hold as the scenes of annihilation below play out in your mind. The ancient being ogles you nonchalantly, drawing the rock and skull to its hooves like magnets.

Patience humans. The ritual will take place when the sun is at its highest – we leave before nightfall.

You will want to prepare well for the fight ahead – choose your allies carefully and I will handle the rest.

“What? You’re not telling me you have a PC up here?”

Fool, I am a Guardian! I have magic, I have no need for your primitive technology.

Ammorith ducked to avoid another bonk: “As much as I’d like to avoid any further losses, there’s a lot more at stake if I go in emptyhanded.” The Hunter stared out to the misty yonder competitively, “I’ll bring Archeops to the fight, the partner of my late Grandpa Archibald. They were renowned explorers who singlehandedly charted leagues of the Cradle. Heck, I wouldn’t be a Hunter today if it weren’t for them. If there’s any Pokemon equipped to lead me into battle, it’s him. Who are you going to bring, Xan?”

With nothing to do but wait as the various cogs wheeled into motion, the Guardian escorts you to a scenic patch of garden in the upper levels of the temple, the grass under your feet soft while a leafy canopy offered ample shade. It was an ideal spot for a nap, Tapu Bulu not wishing to send you into the calamity sleep deprived; you reluctantly oblige, although flashes of the fallen Guardian’s destructive power ensure only a light and broken rest. The flora seems to sense your unease, expelling a mild sedative which works to settle your nerves and whisk you into slumber…

When you come to Corvisquire and Dreepy had returned with a collection of cells, globules of shadow hissing as they made feeble attempts to escape their bearers’ grasp. Level up for Corvisquire and Dreepy! The sun was fast approaching its zenith and at the sanctum’s highest reaches, the Guardian was waiting. With Ammorith in tow you follow a grassy staircase up to a plateau wreathed in cloud, soft and billowing as far as the eye can see.

A dais jutted out at its centre, marked with toppled pillars and ancient runes written in a language lost to man. The fragrance of incense was heavy and the sound of windchimes could be heard against the mountain breeze. While the entirety of Del’Tor emanated holiness, the ritual ground was simply brimming with it. Tapu Bulu had been busy making preparations, firewood stacked to the nines with the required artefacts lined in a neat circle.

It is time we begun.

With the sun climbing to its peak, the Guardian spreads the ashes against the pyre, sparking the Sacred Fire to life without need of a match. The gold embers leap high as its crackle fills the ambiance, emanating a heat that warms the soul as much as the skin. Tapu Bulu kicks the skull into the bonfire with its tail, releasing a chime as it swings to and fro in circle of the flaming altar; the embers seem to dance to its rhythm, growing in stature and intensity. The runes begin to radiate as the Guardian chants in a tribal tongue, stoking the pyre to a golden inferno.

He lifts the rock into the flame, embers licking against its surface and imbuing it with sacred energy. The vessel starts to vibrate as though it might shatter, before stabilising to a soft pulse. Tapu Bulu lifts it to the heavens triumphantly, the shadow cells succumbing to its gravitational well. Its heartbeat accelerates as each one is swallowed whole, culminating in a sunburst indicating the creatures within were cleansed of all their shadow. With the ritual complete, the embers peter out as quick as igniting – leaving nothing behind but its biproduct, trembling in the ashes.

The looks terrified as he peers out at the world for the first time, bracing like he had in his final moments before annihilation. He snarls back as you lock eyes, although behind his grimace seems to hide a sort of innocence that the Grimmsnarl was completely devoid of. He seems to recognise you, although unable to place why exactly.

He bears the same soul, yet is an entirely new creature. Resurrections of this nature are seldom performed, so I cannot tell you what his destiny will be. That will be for you to decide.

That’s right, once the battle is won he cannot be allowed to roam these lands freely. I hereby bind his fate to yours and it will be up to you to steer him on the right path.

Tapu Bulu was addressing you alone, the mourning Ammorith looking a little relieved if anything. Was tying your fate to a Pokemon once bent on killing you some sort of twisted punishment, or had the Guardian sensed a bond in the making? He looks wary of you but makes no bid to escape either; it seemed he would willingly walk the earth as your prisoner, and perhaps in time, your friend.

Xander was shocked when Tapu Bulu said that it had the ability to summon his Pokemon, like some sort of living PC. He probably shouldn't have been surprised, the Guardian was about to bring something back from the dead, summoning a Pokeball seemed to pale in comparison to that feat. He was fairly happy with the team he had on hand, they'd been through this ordeal and were personally invested. That said, they were about to go up against something unimaginably strong, another heavy hitter wouldn't go astray. When it came to heavy hitting, there was one clear option. Charizard. Not only was the Kantonian starter fierce and experienced, it could also Mega Evolve, further increasing its power. "My Charizard certainly would come in handy right now", Xander murmured in reply to Ammorith's remark. The Hunter also had another ally in mind, after the loss of his Armaldo, Xander would forgive him if he felt that risking the loss of another Pokemon was too much for him to handle.

They were escorted up to the higher levels of the temple for some forced slumber, however Xander appreciated the rest. By the time he came to, Corvisquire and Dreepy had returned, Shadow Cells collected.

Dreepy reached lvl 11!
Corvisquire reached lvl 36!

It was time for the ritual. Xander made his way up the grassy staircase with Ammorith, to the highest point of the temple. The plateau was wreathed in clouds, the dais at its centre pulsed with mystical energy. Xander remained silent as Tapu Bulu conducted the ritual. In some ways it was similar to the ritual conducted by Mindbender, but in others it was completely different. It made sense that there would be some connection though. He watched as the Shadow Cells were purified, then as the ritual reached its conclusion, he prepared himself for the arrival of Grimmsnarl.

"That's, that's not Grimmsnarl", Xander muttered. He was right, but he was also wrong. As Tapu Bulu explained, this was the reincarnation of Grimmsnarl's soul, but as an Impidimp. How much of Grimmsnarl's memories remained was unknown and whether Impidimp would follow in its past life's footsteps was also unknown. What was known was that Impidimp's fate was now bound with his own. Was this some cruel joke? Or was it just what was necessary? After all the suffering he'd endured at Grimmsnarl's hands, how could he align himself with it, even in this new form. Xander shook his head, he needed some perspective.

Mindbender was once a great man, but over time he got twisted and corrupted. Perhaps the same could be said for Grimmsnarl. Perhaps its wicked ways were just a reflection of its master and not a true reflection of itself? It all came down to nature vs nurture, a debate that Xander had heard of more than once. Whether someone is naturally the way they are from birth, or whether they are a reflection of the experiences they have. When Xander looked into Impidimp's eyes he could see a touch of Grimmsnarl looking back at him, however he could see something else instead. Innocence and a clean slate. He had an opportunity to help Impidimp become the best version of itself. He had to abolish his fears, this wasn't Grimmsnarl anymore.

"Hey there little fella", Xander lowered himself to Impidimp's level. "I know you must be confused, but you're here for a very important reason. Together we can do a lot of good and help undo the mistakes of others. We'll need to work together though." Xander dug into his bag, retrieving a Friend Ball. "How about it, think we can be friends?" Xander presented the ball to the reincarnated Fairy. He was confident he was doing the right thing. Grimmsnarl was gone, Impidimp deserved a fresh start, without the crimes of its past life dragging it down. Xander just hoped it would still be able to serve its intended purpose.

TheKnightsFury: Every being deserves a chance at a clean slate, and it wasn’t something you would deprive the reborn Impidimp of. Together you had the opportunity to paint a new picture. And hopefully, a better one. The bright ball seems to repel him at first, he had sensed your initial hesitation and was having second thoughts too. He shoots a look of protest at Tapu Bulu, who releases a stern huff in return. With that the mischievous imp throws caution to the wind and taps the Pokeball with both hands, coaxing it to crack open and swallow him in a swell of light. It jams shut and wriggles in your hand for a few tense seconds before a resounding click indicates success.

Congratulations! You caught a Lv.15 Male Impidimp He knows the TM Play Rough and CM Voodoo Boogaloo!

Our preparations are complete – it is time we engage Zygarde and put an end to their devastation.

“Uhm, Tapu Bulu – I don’t think you’ve explained that part of the plan to us yet.”

Zygarde is a cut above us Guardians, in their shadow form they are heartless and unrestrained. I cannot hope to defeat them, only hold them off so that you may stand a chance of injecting the artefact into his body. The immense concentration of light will trigger a chain reaction, forcing them to shed away their darkness. It will be a dangerous mission, but it is our only hope of righting this wrong.

The Land Spirit pitches you the artefact, the mysterious stone now beating with sacred energy and the foe’s very DNA – it was light as a feather, yet its burden weighed heavy on your shoulders. The burden would be shared though, a powerful roar reverbarating through the mountains and not a moment too soon. The Charizard and Archeops broke through the sea of cloud, vapour running off their wings as they beat to and fro. They seemed to have an innate understanding of what was happening, not surprised to see your face as they came to roost on the plateau, engaging you in a warm embrace all the same. Ammorith had bowled over under the weight of his grandpa’s partner, the First Bird licking and nuzzling him into submission. It was a light moment in an otherwise tense situation, the armageddon underfoot not slowing for family reunions. The Hunter was well aware of all that was at stake, wrestling himself back to standing and preparing his mount for departure.

We have prepared as much as we can, but there is no telling what the Zalfarthas has in store for us. If you are having any second thoughts, now is your chance to fly home – but know the Cradle will likely not survive without your help. Once you are ready, we ride to battle.

Feeding 2 Rare Candies to my Corvisquire, boosting him to lvl 38!

Xander didn't blame Impidimp for having doubts, the rebirthed Fairy wasn't the only one with them. After some reassurance from Tapu Bulu, the imp accepted its fate....

Xander caught Impidimp! Declaring ability as Prankster!

After some questioning from Ammorith, Tapu Bulu finally explained how they could use the artefact to purify Zygarde once more. The Shadow Cells it had absorbed during the ritual had imbued the artefact with the Shadow Guardian's DNA. All they had to do was somehow infect the artefact into its body and then let the magic do its work. It sounded simple, but Xander knew it likely wouldn't be. A roar echoed through the forest and Charizard and Archeops arrived. Seeing the Kantonian Fire Starter gave Xander a bit of hope, they might just be able to pull this off. "Glad to see you big guy, I hope you're ready for one hell of a battle, this will be a feat for the ages." Charizard tilted its head back, letting out a tremendous torrent of flame. "Good, now, MEGA EVOLVE!", Xander's wrist glowed as his keystone activated, tendrils of energy stretched from it to Charizard's Charizardite X, triggering its Mega Evolution. As the cocoon of energy faded, Charizard revealed its black form, bright blue blistering flames flaring between his jaws.

COR CORV

Xander spun as Corvisquire began to cry out. To his amazement the bird was glowing brightly! It only seemed like a short time since Rookidee had evolved while battling that Araquanid, but in reality, quite some time had passed while he was under Mindbender's control and Corvisquire had endured a lot in that time. He watched as the bird's growth accelerated, it grew much larger, easily as large as Charizard! His feathers hardened and took on a metallic sheen, as the energy settled, the newly evolved Corviknight let out a tremendous caw!

Corvisquire evolved into Corviknight!

"Corviknight! Congratulations!" Xander celebrated, "you certainly can pick your times!" This changed Xander's plans for the final battle. He'd originally planned to ride Charizard, but the Mega Pokemon would do much better without having to worry about the trainer on his back. Instead, Xander instructed Dreepy to cling to the Fire/Dragon's back, with the smaller dragon's assistance, Charizard's strength could be amplified even further! He'd ride on Corviknight with Impidimp, who he released from his new ball. Empoleon and Ivysaur he'd keep in their balls until he could determine how best to use them. Xander climbed up onto Corviknight, calling Impidimp up to sit on his shoulder. "We're ready Tapu Bulu, its time to put an end to this."

TheKnightsFury: Your teammates had been pushed to their limits, but something about the stakes ahead push them to reach even further. Showing how much he had grown while your mind was elsewhere, the Corvisquire begins to shed away his adolescent form. In a flash of white the avian underwent an extreme growth spurt, swelling from the smallest to the tallest on the field in a matter of seconds. The metamorphic glow ran off its tempered steel feathers to reveal a lustrous black finish – its mantle, breast, belly, flanks, and scapular feathers resembling plated armour, their buffs potentially a difference between life or death in the war ahead. Not to be out outdone, tendrils of radiation envelop Charizard as its Mega Evolution takes hold, horns ripping from its head and shoulders, wings tearing and flames combusting an intense blue. You couldn’t be prouder marching into battle alongside them, knowing come win or lose you were putting your best foot forward.

You pocket the MacGuffin and saddle up to Corviknight while Dreepy fastens to Charizard, kicking off the plateau and drawing level with Tapu Bulu, leaving its sanctum a shrinking silhouette in your wake. The warm thermals push the Raven Pokemon gently upward, the region a patchwork of forest from the immense altitude. The Corviknight glides through the clouds as smoothly as silk, testing its new and improved manoeuvrability with a barrel roll – Impidimp drawing blood as he digs his claws into your shoulders for dear life. The moment of shared exhilaration is quickly dashed as you spot the calamity on the horizon, a plume of ash rising up in a great mushroom cloud.

Zalfarthas

It was a colossal monochromatic canvas, acres of fervent land reduced to ash and charcoal. Enormous tree trunks stood sapped of all life, sheltered under a churning mass of dull grey clouds. The air was thick and noxious, rank with the smell of brimstone. Pressing closer to the eye of the storm your vision becomes shrouded, unable to see much further than a few hundred yards ahead with the sun nothing but a blotch in the sky. Your heart starts to sink as you notice fights breaking out below, peaceful forest dwellers turned rabid as the Guardian's corruption spread like a contagion. A horde of red-eyed, grey furred Aipom were rushing a limping Sawsbuck, ready to tear it limb from limb – Archeops dispersing them with a well-timed Rock Blast. It was too dangerous to push forward blindly, Tapu Bulu leading you to the mile-high canopies to formulate an assault.

I sense the Guardian’s presence a few miles East. They are not just razing the land but corrupting it – they could very well be forming an army of Shadow Pokemon, one we must match with one of our own covering land and sky.

The plan remains the same – I draw them out and you find your opening.

From your vantage you scope some of the more stubborn faewood residents finally fleeing from the scene, while others were charging inbound willing to lay down their lives; both camps looked like they could use some coordination. You peer easterly through grey miasma, the occasional flare of red letting you know your enemy was waiting on the other side. Ashes were falling with the grace of snow, covering over everything dead and alive – an eerie calm before the storm moved in.

Lil' Bluey Watch for the shadows of monsters that hang from the ceiling...

Pearl’s Perap – With Doug practically a sitting Ducklett under the weight of all the arachnids, you quickly shout out to him to shake off the mental cobwebs by blasting them with his psychic abilities. Striving to concentrate amidst the several unsettling stimuli skittering over his skin, Doug manages to drown out the disgusting distractions and meditate a moment before unleashing his cerebral might, pushing the pests away via a powerful royal purple forcefield. The expanding bubble of personal space propels the Spinarak to scatter all over the area – some landing flat on their backs as they comically struggle and flail their stubby little legs to get back up – although the Ariados once again manages to maintain vertical standing as she mashes her mandibles in ire.

Calling out to her fallen comrades to rouse and right their stance, those that can flip themselves over and attempt once more to swarm their opponent – however Doug anticipates this by abruptly disappearing into thin air, leaving the confused insects to rush harmlessly by and result in a tangled pile of puzzlement. Doug pops back into the present plane a short but safe distance away with a smirk, to which the Ariados narrows her eyes, not at all amused by the vanishing stunt. In response, dark energy descends down to her limbs, feeding the shade beneath as it surreptitiously elongates, stretching out towards the unsuspecting Slowking. The SHADOW SNEAKs and slithers across the earth like a snake, closing the gap in an instant as it rears behind Doug and taps him teasingly on the shoulder, baring its teeth wide as it smacks the surprised prey with a sinister strike.

Doug stumbles back as the serpent’s silhouette returns to its source with a snicker, and he grimaces irritably as this time he’s the one to charge at his adversary in anger, letting loose his own fist of fury to slap the smug look off the spider’s face. She stands her ground however, and retaliates by BUG BITING back beneath the king’s collar, causing him to cry out in pain as her fangs sink firmly into soft, juicy neck flesh and refuse to let go. A green glow surrounds the vampiric parasite as she starts to ABSORB vigor from her victim, who sways woozily as he feels faint, strength fading fast from his body…

Meanwhile, Shane is growing increasingly frustrated by the slow means of freeing the fairy, and hearing your advice is all too eager to speed up the process. As he coats his own claw in ghostly gloom though, gleaming sharply with a grin, Flabébé begins to panic as she begs her “savior” to reconsider:

“Wait, please! What if you hurt the Great Tree?”

She squeaks out, clearly more concerned about damaging such an ancient and sacred being than even her own well-being.

What will you do?

Xander wasn't confident of their chances when they had set out, and he was even less confident now. The amount of destruction Shadow Zygarde had reaped was greater than he'd expected. At this rate it would shortly be done with the mystical Zalfarthas and move on to destroying the rest of the Cradle. Would it stop there though? Would it not continue on to ravage the whole of Fizzytopia and potentially the world? It certainly seemed possible as the corrupted Guardian seemed to possess the ability to cast shadows over the native Pokemon of the Cradle, adding them to its own shadowy army.

With forces amassed, they'd need their own if they were to stand any chance of making it to the corrupted Guardian. The natives of Zalfarthas that had yet to be turned to the shadows were split into two clear factions. Those clever enough to flee and those brave or foolish enough to throw themselves at Zygarde's corrupted forces. They'd need both groups if they were to mount a resistance effort, meaning it was probably best for Ammorith and himself to split up and both handle a group. "Ammorith we need to split up, you go try and rally those that a fleeing, this should be of some assistance in getting their attention." Xander produced the white flute that had failed to work earlier, but he hoped its song would at least give Ammorith the opportunity to rally the troops with some inspiring words. Meanwhile, Xander would head down to those residents who were hopelessly trying to fight the Guardian's forces. He saw himself as having a similar mindset to them, a show of force on his behalf would hopefully be enough to earn their respect. "Charizard, Corviknight, let's get down there." Impidimp's claws had been cutting into his shoulder, but Xander barely noticed the pain as his mind was focused purely on the task ahead of them. Charizard began to descend down towards the group, Dreepy still clinging tightly to the Mega Pokemon's back.

With commands issued to both of his team mates, Zak watched on as the arachnid hoard continued to do their worst to the Slowking. It wasn't long before he managed to utilise his telekinetic prowess to throw the spiders off of him and around the clearing, though, with some even landing on their backs. Before the Spinarak could retaliate and engulf the Royal Pokémon once more, he successfully teleported away from the fray, effortlessly reappearing nearby with a smirk forming. This appeared to enrage the mother Ariados, though, as she channelled her malice towards the Slowking in a Shadow Sneak attack. Enraged, Doug dashed forwards and struck the arachnid leader but it didn't stop her. With her prey in close range, the Ariados successfully issued a number of strong attacks, biting at him with her mandibles and absorbing the very life out of her foe in the most vampiric fashion.

Nearby, before Shane could make his attempt to free the stuck Flabébé, she cried out in protest, not wanting the Ghost-type to damage the tree in the process. This hadn't crossed his mind or his trainer's so he froze where he stood, not wanting to continue trying to free the Fairy without his trainer ordering him to do so. It wasn't particularly like him but her insistence gave him pause and he looked up to his trainer for his thoughts. The man knew he needed to act fast in this dangerous situation but he also needed to approach things with care at the same time.

"Shane, Doug - I want you to try and swap places. We need to hold off our foes but we need to save our guide carefully too. Focus your attention on the Ariados with an Icy Wind to her face and legs, if she tries any more ghoulish attacks I want you to be ready to get out of the way and hit her with your own Shadow Sneak, Shane. Doug, I want you to approach the webbing with a Calm Mind and very carefully use your Psychic powers to attempt to free Flabébé. Easy as you go, though, we don't want to harm the tree or the fairy."

With another set of orders issued, the man gulped and tried not to imagine the spiders engulfing him if his Pokémon were not successful.

King Ghidorah- So far your time at the Breeders Guild had been a complete change of pace from your other adventures in the Cradle. No life or death situations here, just fun and conga lines! How long that would last was yet to be seen, but you decide to embrace it while you can. Pulling out your phone, you play some music to really set the scene, while you also release Elekid to give Bounsweet a helping hand. The pair form a small conga line, demonstrating to the Grookey before urging them to join in. The Grass Starters are eager to get involved and quickly leap into line. With Bounsweet at the front and Elekid following up the rear, the conga line makes its way towards the lab. Flora opens the door and lets them in, so far so good.

"Alright Bounsweet if you could just lead them all into this holding cell, we'll bring them out one by one and collect a little bit of blood." Bounsweet follows Flora's directions, leading the Grookey's into one of the holding cells while Flora prepares for the quick procedure. She obtains a number of syringes from a nearby drawer, then from the fridge she produces a big bunch of Nanab berries. "Alright Hugo, so we need to bring the Grookey out one at a time so I can get a small blood sample. I need you to keep the Grookey settled and distracted so I can get the needle in without too much struggle. Once I've got my sample, they can have a Nanab Berry for their good behaviour. Think you can handle that?" So far the Grookey had been responding well to your plans, but would the needle prove too much for them to handle?

Connor- The mysterious eye seemed like a potential threat, but with the low light in this room, it was probably a good idea to illuminate the scene. To that end, you call Ivy out of his ball. The Bellsprout garishly announces his presences before Sophie passes on your instructions. Ivy swings his head upwards as it begins to glow brightly, letting out an intense flash that wicks away the darkness. With the room now illuminated, you're shocked to find that the red markings are confined to the wall above the altar. The red marks worked their way around the entirety of the room. You spin in place as you follow the lines around the room. Even the ceiling was adorned with the strange marks! Thankfully the floor was clear at least.

While you were busy following the strange patterns around the room, Marco had once again decided to rush forward foolishly. Sophie had been assessing the situation like yourself, the Pancham was unchecked. He was closing in on the altar, preparing to leap off of it and strike the eye with a Foul Play. As he prepares to leap, the eye snaps shut. Suddenly a Shadow Claw lashes out of the wall, knocking Marco off course. A Shadow Ball then burst from the ceiling, slamming him into the ground. The Pancham looks shook as he regains his feet. As if things couldn't get anyway worse, rocks groan as a stone door falls from the ceiling, closing off the exit, you're trapped! Looking around the now illuminated room, you can spot numerous eyes, identical to the first, staring back at you. There was no way of telling where the next attack would come from and there was no way to retreat, how would you proceed?

Emp- With your attempt at destroying the Electric Elemental thwarted at the last possible moment, you now had an even greater threat to deal with. That said, there was one slight benefit to the current situation, as Ty is quick to point out. "We're fighting on one front now, with the power sources combined, we've just got to destroy one instead of two. If we can get a clear shot again, I still think that tactic of yours could work."

As Ty converses with you, Nikola rises off the ground, using the electromagnetic currents to sore up to the Storm Elemental. Taiko shakes as he begins to gather energy, his special attack rising as he waits for the opportune moment to fire his Meteor Beam.

"Smack Down", Ty calls to Tyranitar. The powerful Pokemon begins to slam the thunder head with rocks, each strike knocking it closer to the ground. Nikola helps to restrain the Storm Elemental as well, releasing an Electroweb that compresses the creature. It isn't going down without a struggle though. It begins to Discharge large amounts of electricity. Although Nikola resists the attack, the sheer strength of it causes him a great amount of pain. Tyranitar pushes through the electrical assault as it continues to wear the elemental down. Weather Balls begin to rain from the thunder head, the watery assault a severe threat to Taiko. He couldn't afford to wait any longer.

Taiko unleashes the powerful Meteor Beam, punching a hole right through the centre of the cloud! The dark mass cleared, you now had a clear view of the combined power sources. The red gem from the electrical elemental was embraced by a pair of pure white weathers. "We've got our shot kid, what's the plan?"
