With a flick of your risk you release Surgei from his ball, the Eelektrik floats happily above the sand courtesy of his electromagnetic levitation. The Electric type wouldn't mind taking a little shock for a good cause, he was certainly better equip to handle it than you were. You instruct the electric eel to gently bind the ensnared Helioptile, keeping it in place so it didn't hurt itself further while he crunched through the snare.

Surgei gets to work, he floats in slowly, trying not to spook the Helioptile further. It's frills extend as he gets close, shocking him but Surgei shrugs it off. He uses the opportunity to make his move, wrapping his slender body around the lizard. Being careful not to squeeze too tightly, he assess the situation with the snare. The cable is too tight around the Helioptile's neck due to the amount it has struggled, if he tried to chomp through it there, he'd risk hurting the lizard further. Instead he begins to chew through the cable that is attached to the anchor buried deep in the sand. It takes a bit of work but his sharp teeth eventually break through the cable. Realising it is no longer anchored to the ground, Helioptile begins to struggle harder, the snare still dangling from its neck. Maybe you could try to get through to it and calm it down?

While you've been busy watching Surgei work, Mojumbo has been dealing with the Mandibuzz. The Tangrowth has been keeping the scavengers at bay with Super Effective Ancient Powers, he'd even managed to amass a stat boost. The birds have been taking turns attacking, two of them striking with Air Slash, while another dives in and strikes with a Brave Bird. Mojumbo attempts to put them to sleep with a different douse of powder, but they dispel it with a quick Gust of wind. The Tangrowth was beginning to tire, he was outnumbered and in need of assistance.
Emp’s attention was spread paper thin, the rescue mission unfolding below while the foragers swooped and cawed above. Helioptile gave a warning flash of its frill as Surgei zoomed in, the timid Pokemon releasing an electric shock which didn’t phase Eelektrik in the slightest. With his body coiled around the agitated creature he craned his slender neck up and down, searching for a weak spot to exploit; the noose was wrapped too tight around Helioptile’s neck for a clean bite so he’d need to chew at the anchor instead. He latched down with his leech-like mouth, teeth meeting resistance against the cable but eventually severing it. With the snare detached the prey could smell its escape, wriggling with all its might against Surgei’s bind. It felt cruel to rob him of this liberty but with the trap shackled to his neck he wouldn’t last a second in the harsh desert. That was just one problem on Emp’s mind, the rescue would be in vain if they didn’t deal with the problem in the sky.

“Hit em’ with your Leech Seed! Beat back their advances with Vine Whip!” The coaching wasn’t enough. Mojumbo had successfully diverted attention away from the rescue efforts but for all his ancient power, he was outnumbered and outmatched. He needed backup and fast, and there was no one more capable of giving it than Surgei. With the Helioptile no longer anchored to the ground the trainer could try taking over, leaving Surgei to fry bigger fish (or birds). He would need to coax the wounded Pokemon into trusting him first, a complete leap of faith based on how scatty the reptile was behaving thus far. Emp leaned into a squat in efforts to appear less threatening, first rustling through his satchel and prizing an item in each hand.

“Surgei, let me take over from here. Mojumbo needs your help. See if you can slow their assault with Thunder Wave, then a fire off a widespread Discharge”, The Eelektrik nodded as it began to uncoil. “Oh, and use this - you’re more than ready, I just know it.” Emp volleyed a Thunder Stone in Eelektrik’s direction, the EleFish springing forward to catch it in its sucker mouth. The reaction was instantaneous, stone dissolving as he flickered blinding white, body elongating with clawed, paddle-like arms sprouting from either side, and a matching set of tail-fins to boot! A beige dorsal fin would complete the look, the shimmer running off his body to reveal a menacing new form.

“That ought to tip the scales”, Emp hoped, now free to inch closer toward the Helioptile, “I don’t want to hurt you. Please just calm down and I’ll get you free of that thing – here look, I have food.” The trainer unclasped the other hand to reveal an Oran Berry. This could have been the vunerable Pokemon’s first sign of food in days, hopefully enough to at the very least pose a distraction while he untangled the snare. It had crossed Emp’s mind that the creature was probably weak enough to try and capture outright, but then he would be no better than the poachers, pillaging wildlife from a foreign land with no regard for the ecological consequences. He better consult Ty first on that front.

Perhaps the weakness was that it had allowed you a question, as the question you ask is straight to the point. How could you defeat it?

A noise rumbles from Kyurem, you can only assume that it is a chuckle. "You, defeat me? As you are? Impossible. I saw this meeting, it was inevitable, yet the path you took here was your own. Had you strayed from your path of determination, you might have found the strength you needed. The Cradle has many sources of powers, glittering gems of incredible strength, scattered amongst the sands. Stones so powerful that those that wield them are changed forever. You're to be admired for your willpower, the strength you've shown is also passable. Unfortunately, you lack knowledge and with knowledge comes power. You asked how you can defeat me? At this point defeat is inevitable, you're only help is to outlast."

KYRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Bittercold, Terminal Stage 5: At this point, only Ice type Pokemon can thrive, and even then will find conditions uncomfortable. Non-Ice types cannot withstand the cold for long and will faint after two rounds of combat. The trainer at this point will start to suffer, and must retreat to a warmer climate or find a source of warmth. Failure to do so within 5 updates could lead to loss of life.......

Kyurem roars, sending out a chilling wave of energy that drops the temperature in the cave further than you thought possible. The Guardian stands at the ready, but it seems to be waiting for you to take the first move, perhaps it wants a taste of your strength before it finishes you?
Well, this was it. Hugo had made peace with his gods. It was his destiny to face Kyurem here and now. Had he been too brash? Too blinded by his goal to plan for a better strategy? Perhaps. But that’s who Hugo was. And Hugo will die as he lived, he told himself. There really was no other way.

But he wasn’t going down without a fight.

Hugo shivered in the cold, beginning the feel the early onset of frost bite. He needed to act now. It was time to live or it was time to die. He stared into the monstrous face, the vacant yet all-seeing eyes of the ice creature in front of him. Hugo narrows his own eyes, nervously fingering one of the Pokeballs that hung from his waist, and threw it to the ground in front of him.

Salandit emerged.

She was immediately hit by the cold. Even though she was literally a living furnace, it was clear that the elements would prove to be just too much for her as she shivered and trembled feverishly. Without speaking, Hugo quickly applied one pot of Heat Balm to the Fire-type’s skin, rubbing it into her quickly-freezing scales. The balm seemed to work almost immediately, and the trembling ceased. For a second at least.

Salandit focused on the much larger enemy ahead of her. Never one to show fear, she arched back and let out a fierce hiss. Hugo admired her spirit, but he was overcome with a sense of dread. What was he thinking? How could something this small be expected to fight the frozen face of death ahead of her? And to make matters worse, she was trembling again. Had the balm worn off already?

But then Hugo realized…

Salandit had evolved into Salazzle!

The fierce reptile whipped her long tail against the ground with a loud *CRACK*, her eyes glaring at Kyurem. She wasn’t ready to surrender. She was ready to fight.

Well, here goes nothing.

“SALAZZLE!” Hugo called across the icy field. “NOW! USE TOXIC! USE IRON TAIL! USE DAZZLING GLEAM!

Connor: While you weren't normally one to heed your Pancham's suggestions, the desperation on the face of Cain and the intensifying monsoon all but forced your hand as you make for the recess behind the waterfall, to Marco's excitement and Sophie's chagrin. Shielding the Gligar from the downpour, you're at least somewhat thankful that your helmet protects you from being utterly drenched even as you squeeze behind the roaring falls, and as you and your group enter the recess, you're not too surprised to find that the bits of cobble indeed have turned into a path heading into a cave. What's definitely odd though is the fact that the cave itself seems well lit, with numerous mushrooms and plants providing bioluminescence, but before you can opt to stay put and wait for the storm to pass you by, movement catches the fighting type's eye and he darts off after it before you can make a move. Once more your hand's forced as you chase after the panda, but it only takes a minute or two before you catch up to him, and what stopped him.

Hidden behind the falls, you find yourself looking at the entrance to some sort of subterranean temple, covered in fairly thick vines, and from the looks of things a statue of some description beyond it. The vines seem fairly sturdy and don't budge too easily, but appear to be somewhat soft and shouldn't be too tough to chop through, and the Pancham seems very eager to explore this strange place. Sophie meanwhile doesn't seem too thrilled, though the living jellybean seems to be focusing on something beyond the statue. What's your plan?

Meetan: To say you were heartbroken at the situation would be a gross understatement, and Blaze very quickly understands the danger the Chikorita is in. While you think on what that substance in the pool could be, the fire type quickly hones himself and tucks feathers in, streamlining himself as he swiftly dashes to the rescue of the sick grass type, as the Ferrothorn's glow becomes almost mirror-like, before launching a shot of light at the downed pokemon! Fortunately, Blaze is significantly faster and with a pirhouette, scoops the Chikorita up and springs out of the way as the projectile bursts behind it, scattering soil everywhere. Depositing the starter into your trembling arms, the fighting type turns angrily to the Thorn Pod pokemon and utilising momentum quickly rushes up the tree and promptly gives the clinging steel type one hell of an uppercut as it only just spots him too late. Taken by surprise, the pokemon is knocked out of the tree and lands with a dull thud in a somewhat damp spot of mud.

The Ferrothorn is by now fixated on the bird, and as Blaze prepares to give it a careful burst of incendiary justice from his new vantage point, the steel type begins to whirl around, coating itself in the soil and embedding itself, small tendrils emerging and ingraining itself firmly to the ground. Caked in the mud, the fire spin lands perfectly and as it audibly grumbles from within its fiery tomb, you take a very quick check on the grass type, examining the creature and the substance on its body. The Chikorita's form is almost leathery, breathing shallow and the pokemon feels a bit cold to the touch, very clearly dehydrated and not too far from the Distortion World. Your attention's drawn to a sudden squawk, as you find out why: from within the spinning flames, a harsh spray of caustic acid blasts into Blaze, the Combusken's flesh sizzling from the attack and the tree he's holding onto beginning to melt, the Ferrothorn taking things seriously as it begins to crackle within, mud hardening and insulating it from the heat of the fire spin...

Lil'twick:Mayhem was an apt term for the situation, and on determining the biggest threats you quickly issue commands to your team to fight back. Beckoning to Flabebe, you ask for her help to try and rescue others caught in the battle, and with a nod she pipes up. "R-right!" Giving her blue flower a twirl, she begins to chant a small spell, and as she finishes it seems to have perked up the mood of the fighters. Custard gives a nod to his compatriots and veers towards Skuntank before wiggling his hands and calling out to him, just in time as Shiftry is about to collapse from exertion. The Skuntank promptly turns towards him, changing targets and giving him a bit of a scorching with the remnant of the flamethrower.

"Irritating little..." he growls before barreling forth and sinking his teeth into Custard, biting into the body of the Togetic and causing him to cry out in pain, the attack surprisingly very effective for what should have been a resisted hit. This however leaves him clean open to retaliation, an orb of botanic energy flying out of the Prince's flower and smacking the skunk in the side forcing him to release the Togetic as the ball bursts on contact. "GRAGH!" the poison type roars, before looking confused as the Togetic he was just trying to eat is nowhere in sight, only a reasonably sized box with a ribbon tied around it. "Whuzzis? Some sorta trick?" he sneers before hopping back and inhaling before blowing and whipping up a sudden whirlwind that lifts the box up and throws it at Shiftry! The grass type has only just caught their breath when the box lands upon them and in a celebration of disaster explodes, confetti flying everywhere, but through some stroke of luck the Wicked pokemon is unharmed, protected by some mystical force.

While this is happening, Cott and Souffle contend with the drowsy Koffing, who is unable to properly act and is thus subject to a double whammy of sound waves as Swirlix and Igglybuff deliver a devastating duet of Rounds upon him. He can only cry out as he takes considerable damage, but is not going down lightly. As the pair begin to sing, the poison gas pokemon is having none of that. "Not bad kiddies, lemme show you how a real bad dude SINGS!" he bellows as he breaks into a cacophonic uproar, drowning out their song and giving both pokemon quite a headache, and as the Koffing continues his yelling, a nasty haze begins to pour from his pores, clouding the atmosphere up and nullifying any attempts to improve conditions...

On the other side of the field, Honey and Carrot are faced with the Shuckle, pestered by the flitting infestation while it coughs and splutters from the poison. Still with speed on their side by a considerable margin, the Cutiefly runs interference, vibrating his wings as he generates a buzzing shockwave that drills into the Shuckle, who winces at the sound based move, helpless against it while the Carbink sharpens up, gyrating on the spot and upping their physical performance. Not to be taken lightly, the Mold pokemon attempts to stop the buzzing by spewing forth the sweet scent of berries from its shell towards Honey, the bug type quickly enamoured by the aroma as he stops attacking to drift closer, only to be quicly caught in a bind by the bug's limbs, pinned down! "Don't try it, pebbles, or the little guy gets it!" he threatens back at Carrot, who too late has tossed a rock at him, and with a quick spin the Shuckle is shielded from the attack by using Honey to block it! The Cutiefly isn't too injured by it, but remains in the Shuckle's grip and being squeezed uncomfortably tightly as the shelled bug resumes their crawl to the table, almost there as Honey is unable to attack back...

With everything being thrown into disorder, you and Sprinkles take it upon yourselves to aid others. Sticking to the walls, you're naturally concerned about your pokemon, with Honey in the most immediate danger and Carrot at a loss. That said, with Skuntank distracted by Custard, you and the Morelull find a few scared Budew and their Roselia guardian trying to keep them calm. On the sight of the glowing mushrooms of Sprinkles, the timid grass types are enthralled as your pokemon begins to hum and glow, communicating with them and reassuring them that everything will be fine, calming them enough for the Roselia to usher them through a hole in the grotto to safety. The grass type gives a grateful nod to you, before pointing out the Exeggutor who is stomping fearfully not too far from Shuckle. "The friendly Exeggutor can fight well, but he needs to be calmed down before he hurts someone..."

Taking into account this information, and on the battle as it stands, what's your next plan of action?

Koffing Status: Wounded, Throwing a tantrum (Uproaring and visibility reduced)
Currently battling: Souffle, Cotton.
Air Quality: Muggy.

Shuckle Status: Injured, Binding Honey (Steady damage, unable to move), moving to table, poisoned.
Currently Battling: Honey, Carrot.
Food Supply: Good.

Skuntank Status: Injured, Provoked to Custard.
Currently Battling: Custard, The Prince, Shiftry.
Festival Mood: Concerned.

Emp- With Helioptile no longer pinned down and Mojumbo finding himself in a tough spot, you decide its time to take over from Surgei. Hopefully the Helioptile was tired enough and desperate enough that it wouldn't bolt as soon as the Eelektrik let go. You'd considered straight up catching it, but taking advantage of its current situation would likely make you no better than those Arceus forsaken poachers. You give Surgei his orders and the Electric type releases his hold. Almost forgetting, you toss the Unovan native a little extra something. The Thunder Stone lights up, disappearing in an instant as Surgei uses the energy stored inside to trigger his evolution. The newly evolved Eelektross floats off to help Mojumbo, the pair surely capable of getting rid of those bloody Mandibuzz.

You only took your eyes off Helioptile for a moment, but that's all the little lizard needed. As you turn back, the injured Electric type is gone! Well kind of. The looped cable around its neck was a clear giveaway. It was camouflaged again, a few feet away shaking nervously. Looking to coax the lizard in so you can finally free it from the snare, you produce a rather fresh and juicy Oran Berry. In its injured state the berry for sure to be enticing and it was probably starving as well. As a low grumble rings from Helioptile's belly, you calmly talk to the lizard and watch as the cable floats ever closer. Helioptile's tiny clawed hand pick up the berry, the camouflage drops as it begins to hungrily munch on the berry. It seems somewhat comfortable about your presence now, giving you an opportunity to remove the snare.

Mojumbo's Leech Seeds are gobbled up as quick as he can fire them, the Mandibuzz certainly were hungry and had their sights set on a bigger meal! Mojumbo keeps them at bay with his Vine Whips, long enough for the newly evolved Surgei to come to his rescue. The Eelektross strikes the buzzards from behind, paralysing them all with a Thunder Wave! Struggling to flap their wings, the Mandibuzz are forced into a retreat as Surgei discharges a surge of electricity to dispel any thoughts the birds may have of doubling back.

Mojumbo gained 2 levels! Surgei gained 2 levels!

King Ghidorah- Even though Kyurem's harsh words rang true, you were only being true to yourself. You'd climbed this mountain and were willing to die on it, although you hoped that wouldn't be the case. You release Salandit from its ball, unsurprisingly it didn't take long for even the Fire type to succumb to the enhanced Bittercold. You had a solution to that though, using some of the Heat Balm that you'd been gifted. The heat not only seemed to fight back the effects of the Bittercold, it seemed to awaken something inside Salandit. Behaving aggressively, the little lizard gives a heated snarl at her legendary opponent, her body begin igniting in a fierce glow. She was evolving! As the light fades, you lay your eyes upon the elegant Salazzle for the first time. Sure, the odds were still against her, but she certainly stood a better chance now!

Calling across the icy field, you order Salazzle to use Toxic. If you could put a timer on Kyurem, you just had to outlast it! The lizard spits a torrent of toxins at her opponent, although Kyurem has an immediate answer. A stomp of its foot summons a wall of rock, creating a makeshift barrier between it and the toxins. After absorbing the potentially potent poison, Kyurem sends the rock sliding forward. Salazzle leaps, with a swing of her tail she cleaves a path through the rock, coming through unscathed. As the rock wall crumbles, Salazzle lets out a Dazzling Gleam, a move that she strangely had since birth. The Super Effective attack washes over Kyurem, although the legendary Pokemon doesn't seem all that phased. It's jaws snap open, lancing Salazzle with a terrible Dragon Breath! Salazzle screeches in pain and feels her limbs stiffen, paralysis taking hold. "One tiny Pokemon poses no challenge to me weakling." Kyurem was right, in a one on one battle, Kyurem could easily counter and overwhelm your Pokemon!

Yanmega Arboreal Cradle - 14

Lythan'Torr Glades

TheKnightsFury: After a toiling day of scouting it was Ammorith who found you. Or at least what was left of Ammorith; the shell that remained was not man you had bonded with all that time ago. Beyond his physical decline, his spirit seemed broken and mind fractured. And he was one of the lucky ones, there were leagues more of his company still in captivity, where and by whom remained a mystery. You decide not to press the traumatised escapee further, agreeing to his goose chase and tipping him off to the slippery creature’s last known whereabouts. A fire ignites in his belly all of a sudden, eyes glistening with hope as he tugs you into a follow. You turn to Lilev who had been decidedly quiet up to now, a look of deep concentration painted on her face.

“If this is our only chance to find the other Hunters, then we have no choice. But the second we catch that thing I’m taking you to the nearest Healer’s Guild outpost. And you’ll take my water and food rations before we go any further.” Lilev chucked a waterskin Ammorith’s way, the hunter desperate to get back on the trail but relenting to a drink all the same. She then turns to you, “Xander, send our coordinates to Orma and inform her that we need urgent backup, if a guardian is involved in this plot we’ll need every Hunter in the whole damn Cradle on this mission.”

Trodding along with your heavy-duty boots, a new hunt was underway. Sticking to the veteran huntress’s lesson you keep your head up and focused on the horizon; the rainforest trail was narrow and uncivilized, twisting and snaking around ancient trees the size of which you had never seen before. Their roots criss-crossed all along the trail, gnarled and uneven threatening to trip your party at a moment’s notice. You begin to use your hands where the path rises in steep, uneven rocky steps, no longer even sure if Zygarde’s core would have shuffled this way. Fortunately, Lilev and Ammorith were on-hand to course correct where the trail was going cold, debating over snapped twigs and partially eaten foliage with the more seasoned hunter usually having the right. Time rolls by until you eventually reach a forest hilltop, still submerged in treetops but offering a panoramic view of the forest floor below. Dappled sunlight filtered through the canopies to illuminate the scene, Lilev brandished a pair of binoculars as she pored over every root and log. She releases a short exclamation, passing the pair to you and pointing toward the far reaches of the grove. It takes you a second to get your bearings but you quick enough see what she saw, the Zygarde core entering your peripheral. It was well camouflaged and smarter than your average woodland creature, no doubt springing Ammorith’s trap on you intentionally as it made its escape. The terrain ahead was bumpy and littered with obstacles, the clever core had taken you to this section of the jungle by no mistake! Without a moment to lose, a swift route and a sticky trap were your best shot at capture.

Jungle Run: reach the end of the maze as fast as you can!

Bulbasaur is blocked by vegetation but can crawl through hollow logs with ease. Corvisquire can fly over trees and bushes while sections of woodland with dead logs are choked with vines and spider webs, making them impossible to fly through. You can only give your Sticky Web to one of your partners so must work out which one can reach the end of the maze in the fewest steps.

Like he was asked, Xander used the device Orma had given him to contact her. The connection wasn't exactly great, but he transmitted what Lilev had asked him to. "Orma, can you hear me? We've found Ammorith, he's not in great shape but he's with us. The other hunters have been captured by someone, we don't know who. Lilev wants every available hunter sent to our location." Xander waited anxiously for a reply, unsure whether the message had gotten through or not.

They were hot on the trail of Zygarde, but something Lilev had said had Xander wondering. She mentioned a Guardian, was that someone? Was it Zygarde? Or was it something else entirely? Xander was glad he was with two experienced hunters because even with what Lilev had taught him, there was no way he would have been able to follow the little squishy things trail. After an uphill battle, they eventually reached the top of the hill, giving them a great view of the forest below. Keen eyed, Lilev whips out a pair of binoculars, she'd spotted Zygarde! The only issue was the forest ahead was nearly impenetrable, the clever cell had led them here on purpose. If they tried to cut their way through, the slippery Pokemon would have more than enough time to get away. Their only hope was either Bulbasaur or Corvisquire. The Grass type was small and low to the ground, it could crawl the the hollow logs but the large trees and shrubs would stop its progress. Corvisquire on the other hand could easily navigate around the trees and shrubs, but the sections with fallen logs were choked with vines and draped with thick webs.

Xander's eyes darted around wildly, his mind a blur as he ran through the maze like forest in his mind. Wrong turn, obstacle. Wrong turn again, dead end. This wasn't easy. After a short time he'd worked out paths for both Bulbasaur and Corvisquire to reach Zygarde, but speed was of the essence. There wasn't much in it, but Bulbasaur's route was slightly faster, it would be her job to capture Zygarde. Xander pulled the Sticky Web out of his bag, it would be perfect for capturing their prey. "Alright Bulbasaur listen closely, this is they way you need to go." Xander took a moment to explain the quickest route to Bulbasaur, hoping she'd have no trouble navigating.

Spoiler: show

"Now Bulbasaur, even if you're quick, I'm afraid Zygarde might try and run the moment it sees you. So we need it to hesitate, just for a second. If you release a Sweet Scent from your bulb, it might just be enough to make it pause. When it does, you throw this at it." Xander handed the Sticky Web carefully to Bulbasaur, who accepted it with one of its vines. "Once its in the web, bind it tightly with your vines and drag it back here. We clear?" Bulbasaur gave a nod, she would do her best. Empoleon stood with his flippers crossed, annoyed he wasn't even considered in the plan at all!

With Surgei tagging into the skirmish Emp shuffled forward, berry in hand. His eyes darted around the sandpit, the Helioptile had attempted to bolt! Honing in on a noose that was rattling to its own accord, he shuffled a little further in that direction and waved the offering. The fragrant scent of citrus was enough to elicit a rumble from the weakling’s belly, the cable bobbing back toward him curiously. A pair of invisible claws prized the fruit from his open palm, taking a chomp and then another. The Helioptile had dropped its guard, no longer seeing Emp as a threat. With no time to waste he detached the snare in a single movement, the frilled-neck reptile too absorbed in its meal to even notice. With things going smoothly in the sandpit, Emp craned his neck up to the summit of the dune; Mojumbo’s seed attack plucked from the air before they could even ensnare their targets. This was just an appetizer for the pair of buzzards, swooping inbound with a whip of his appendages enough to knock them off with enough time for Surgei to provide reinforcement. The Eelektross was on their flank, hampering their flight some with a thunder wave before frying them with a high voltage discharge. The fried scavengers retreated quick enough after that - the battle won.

The tail end of the fight had given Emp some time to while away with the Helioptile, legs crossed as he allowed it to grow comfortable with his presence and scent. He wondered if it was enough for the reptile to follow him up to the top of the sand dune, “That must have been tough for you, little one,” Emp waved toward the lacerations on the scruff of its neck, “If you follow me I can offer you more food till you’re back to shape again. Perhaps I can even help you get your own back on the pesky poachers who trapped you in the first place.” Emp offered his arm for the reptile to climb aboard, hoping he’d accept the offer before then consulting Ty.

Emp- With Surgei helping to scare the Mandibuzz off for good, the situation was all but resolved. You'd successful relieved the Helioptile of its painful necktie, although the red laceration where the abrasive cord had rubbed looked rather tender. They'd need some proper treatment, perhaps Ty had something that could help in his supplies? You offer the lizard some more food and perhaps some revenge if that is what it wanted. One or both of them must have been enticing, because as you rise to your feet and begin trudging back up the sand dune, Helioptile follows. The lizard moves effortlessly across the sand, something you were certainly envious of at this point. You're legs are burning, heavy with lactic acid you find yourself pawing through the sand, inching closer and closer to the summit. You're about ready to pass out by the time you reach the wagon, although Ty is pretty quick to pull out a couple of bottles of Fresh Water.

"One is for you, the other is for your new pal", the hunter grins, "you did a fine job, you might make a decent hunter with a bit of work!" The elderly hunter chuckles, before reaching into his pocket. He produces a small tin, removing the lid he reveals it to be some sort of balm. "Here, rub this on its wounds, its a Heal Balm I picked up from the Healers Guild, should relieve the pain and have the wounds healed up in no time." The hunter seemed pleased with your work, but he hadn't said anything about what you should do with the Helioptile now.....

Giving her blue flower a twirl, she begins to chant a small spell, and as she finishes it seems to have perked up the mood of the fighters.

Everything around him was just pure chaos. While he did enjoy the revelry for a bit, the underlying situation was a lot more serious. Things kept going... wrong. It didn't help that everything here was starting to become more and more off. Like it was a dream, or some kind of nightmare. A Dark type attack shouldn't be effective at all on a Fairy type, and there was something else at play here. Unless something else was happening here. Leo felt like he was stuck in a corner, and there wasn't a clear way out. He had to think about five different things in less than a minute, and make sure that everything actually worked together.

He looked at the rampaging Exeggcutor and wondered what he could do to actually calm it. There was something he could do, but considering his plans have back fired it might not work. These teams were wrong. They were only making things worse. Everything was just plain right going to shit. He worked so hard on this food. He worked so damn hard to make sure everyone would have a good time. And then something in him just... Snapped.

"Oh that's IT! I'm at my wit's end here!" He yelled, unzipping his hoodie and tossing it into the corner. Lean, toned muscles lined his arms that were noticeably covered in various scars. A black bandanna with white trim was tied to his upper right arm, and he grabbed something from his back pocket. A white cap with two black eye patches on the front. Swirling the cap on his finger to full size, he then slams it on top of his head.

"Let me show you how a kid can survive being a member of a criminal organization. It wasn't always just laughs and games and trying to deconstruct societal norms. Team Skull was founded on the basis of revenge, and that was drilled into us into the very beginning! Let me show you hooligans what its means to truly be devious," he said with a sinister grin, sneering at the Skuntank. For some reason, it seemed the boy had a complete switch in his personality.

"Cott, Play Nice with that Exeggcutor. Get that rampaging tree to calm down and help us! Give it an Aromatherapy if you really need to! Souffle, I want you to give the Shiftry a Heal Pulse, then give everyone your salvation Wish!" Leo ordered to the group dealing with the Koffing, who was too busy singing its cacophony to really notice.

"Custard, its time to stop playing games. I want you to Defog the entire room, then pop the Koffing with an Extrasensory!" He ordered his partner Pokemon, trusting him in dealing with the Koffing alone.

"Sprinkles, I want you to Flash the Shuckle once it gets close to the table, and then smack it with a Confuse Ray. That'll be enough to daze it, and that's where you come in Carrot. Use yourself as the Rock and Throw yourself at the Shuckle, before Tackling it further away from the food!"

"Honey, once you're free, show that moldy bug the power of Lunala and blast him with two Moonblasts! I won't let you touch my food, trash," Leo said as he headed towards the table.

"Flabebe, be a dear and give Custard a Helping Hand with his Extrasensory, before tripping up Skuntank with a Grass Knot," he politely said to the Flabebe, a shred of his old demeanor still staying.

"Now, it's time to take out the trash!" He boldly stated as he grabbed the cake knife from the cable. Poising himself to strike, he lunged towards the Skuntank with knife in tow. His hyper-active, friendly demeanor was gone, and only the hotheaded grunt remained. He was going to end this, even if it was by his own hands.

That could have gone better, but it definitely could have gone worse. Even so, Salazzle’s paralysis could be disastrous.

“Where is it? Where is it?!” Hugo yelled to himself, feverishly digging through his backpack. “Ah! I knew I had it!” he exclaimed, pulling a Cheri berry from the pack. It was a bit frozen, but it would do. The last one he had, he knew, but if not now, when? He tossed it to Salazzle who scarfed it down in two quick chomps of her venomous fangs.

But now what? Even in her new form, it looked as if Salazzle would be out-maneuvered if she tried to take Kyurem on alone. Or maybe the mountain guardian was trying to goad Hugo into making another false step? Probably. Then again, one target is a lot easier to hit than two…or three.

Salazzle positioned herself in front of Hugo, awaiting the next command. Hugo pulled two Pokeballs, one in each hand, and pressed the center buttons. Suddenly, Salazzle was flanked by two steel soldiers; Scizor on her right, Bisharp on her left. Almost instantly, Hugo could see the effects of bittercold on his Pokemon. Even the Steel-types, who were usually fairly impervious to cold conditions, were noticeably struggling. Hugo did have two more pots of heat balm left…should he use them? No. Not yet. As much as it hurt him to have to make such a choice, he knew he couldn’t use the heat balm on Scizor and Bisharp. At least not yet.

Despite the cold, his team was ready to fight. Neither Scizor or Bisharp showed much fear in the face of the icy god of death ahead of them. Perhaps they would pay for that.

“You want more?” Hugo asked Kyurem, disdain in his voice. “Here’s more.”

“Salazzle, go for another Toxic! If he tries to block it again, Scizor, take the block out with Bullet Punch, but move quickly! You need to hit before the poison reaches Kyurem. Once the barriers are gone, go in for Iron Head and Superpower! Salazzle, you stay in the rear and use Dazzling Gleam and Dragon Pulse! Bisharp, you use Metal Sound, then go in for Iron Head and Revenge!

Lythan'Torr Glades

TheKnightsFury: The catch was so close you could taste it but first a crackle in your ear breaks your chain of thought, indicating your distress call had been heard loud and clear: “I copy you Xander! I can’t tell you how good it is to hear your voice, moreso that you’re all safe and sound. I’ll send an urgent message out to all Hunters right away requesting they meet you at the Healer’s Guild. Orma over and out!” While the response was brief Orma sounded simply thrilled, your mission had been a success and soon enough you would be bringing the lost huntsman home. There was just one snafu; green, slippery and smart.

It stood waiting at the furthest stretches of the forest, content in the impossible maze set between you both. If you went in guns blazing there was a good chance the creature would bolt, instead you opt to map out the quickest, stealthiest route in your mind’s eye. Scanning over the terrain for several moments you determine Bulbasaur was the best fit for this reconnaissance, attuned to the jungle and its twists and turns. The Seed Pokemon growls affirmatively, bounding into the woodland and onto Zygarde’s tail.

Undeterred by her stubby legs, Bulbasaur moved deftly against the forest floor. The shrubs and thickets cloaked her position and the hollowed logs gave her passage to close the gap undetected, popping out from a fallen tree just metres away from the catch. The two locking eyes, she greets it with a plume of Sweet-smelling fumes from her bulb. The cloying Scent does nothing to befuddle the brainy core, as though it can somehow sense Bulbasaur’s intentions. It makes a run for the hills but Bulbasaur isn’t about to let it slip away, vines giving pursuit. Veering in and out of tree trunks it looks like Bulbasaur might run out of vine, until she manages to lasso the core’s underside in the nick of time. Not about to let it wriggle free, the Seed Pokemon uses a free vine to drape the Zygarde in Sticky Web putting a swift end to its escape. Bulbasaur gained 2 levels!

Your camp makes its way over to the scene but none faster than Ammorith, brandishing a burlap sack and bagging the distressed creature for good measure. The lack of delicacy in his handling is enough to give you pause, the emaciated Hunter hoisting the sack over one shoulder and just as quickly making track for a new destination. Lilev appears to share your concern, her powerful voice enough to stop Ammorith in his tracks:

“Like I said kid, the nearest Healer’s Guild is about ten klicks from here. If we get heading that way we’ll make it before nightfall. We’ll rendezvous with the remaining hunters from there and coordinate our rescue operation on the morrow. You will stay behind while your injuries are tended to.” There was no use fighting, Lilev’s word was final. Ammorith had an expression of pure incense, huffing as he altered course presumably toward the Healer’s Guild. With Ammorith leading the trek at a brisk, impatient pace the remainder of your camp started to fall back. You ready to pick up the pace but Lilev grabs your arm, taking an opportunity to speak with you out of the troubled escapee’s earshot.

“Kid, listen very carefully. I believe Ammorith has been compromised. It was clear from the offset this ordeal has messed with his wits, but now he’s intentionally trying to lead us off the track.” Lilev had trained the hunter from a boy, you felt there must have been truth to her assessment, as hard a pill it was to swallow, “None of what he’s told us makes a lick of sense. The guardians have been custodians of the Cradle for longer than any Hunter – we don’t know much about ‘em, but whenever they have reared their ugly heads it’s been to protect the Cradle. The tribespeople pass down stories of ancient protectors in each of these biomes, benevolent, for the most part. They worship them as gods but none more than Zygarde, the master of the life and death cycle. I’m not much of the superstitious sort but if the legends about Zygarde are true, the Cradle’s ecosystem would collapse without it.” It was hard to imagine the being wriggling and thrashing within Ammorith’s sack could harbour such cataclysmic power, but all the same you feel a twinge of unease for your role in its capture.

“I’ll need your help to ambush him, we’ll take him to the Healer’s Guild by force and question him there. And we’ll work out what to do with the Zygarde core on the way, let’s just hope we haven’t pissed off the guardian too much.” What will you do?

Emp had entered the dune alone and returned with a skittish new friend. In his natural habitat the Heloptile was running circles around the traveller, the latter’s legs burning with lactic acid from all the resistance as he struggled to keep pace, using his hands as the sand rises in steep and slippery steps. The climb was exacerbated by the sun beating down cruel, the sky its co-conspirator with not even a wisp of cloud to soften the harsh rays. Salty sweat rolls off the trainer’s nose and stung his eyes, his clothing hot and sticky and clinging to his skin. The heat and the hangover had left Emp’s tongue feeling as if it was coated in fur and his lips chapped and dry. He longed for an ice cold drink and Ty seemed to have read his mind, greeting him at the summit with a couple of bottles of Fresh Water.

Emp guzzled half the bottle in one go, careful not to spill a precious drop this time. He crouched down to Helioptile’s height, brandishing a small basin and filling it with the remaining half a bottle. The other Fresh Water Mojumbo and Surgei would have to share, both looking dehydrated from their brief skirmish as they regrouped at the wagon. Ty passed him a strange balm from a Healer’s Guild to tend to the Heliptile’s grazed neck; keeping the scatty Pokemon still enough to apply the rub would be a challenge, even with the it growing more comfortable in his company. This wouldn’t deter Emp, the trainer thumbing the balm and drawing closer to the drinking lizard, “This may sting...”

Soon enough they would part ways, Emp’s head full of conflict. With time slipping away like the sand between his toes, he turned to the elder huntsman then back to the Helioptile: “It felt good to help that Helioptile, to know we were undoing some of the bad being done around these parts. It’s a timid little one, but it must have some pluck beneath all that to try fending off Surgei the way it did! If it’s alright by you, I’d like to ask it to join me, to keep its wounds from festering and strengthen it up enough to look after itself. I know outsiders have a bad reputation for pillaging the Cradle, so I thought I ought to get your opinion first...”

Xander only saw glimpses of Bulbasaur's pursuit through the thick foliage, but he was glad to see the Grass type had managed to wrangle Zygarde by the time they all made it there. Ammorith had claimed the Zygarde at first opportunity and showed no care in doing so. Lilev had intervened before Xander had a chance to, telling her old apprentice exactly how things were going to go. Xander thought that was the end of it, Ammorith seemed compliant and corrected course towards the Healers Guild, or did he?

Lilev pulled him aside, letting Ammorith gain a bit of distance on them. She explained her fear that Ammorith had indeed been compromised. Everything he had said failed to fit together, there was clearly a missing piece to all this. Ammorith was likely withholding that piece, but this wasn't the place to extract it. They needed to neutralising him and drag him to the Healers Guild so he could be treated. "I've got a plan, just be ready to help me restrain him once the opportunity presents." Xander whispered back to Lilev before turning to his Pokemon. Corvisquire perched on his shoulder, Empoleon walked by his side and Bulbasaur just in front of him. "Trust me on this guys, its for the best. Bulbasaur I need you to pin Ammorith's arms to his sides with Vine Whip. Corvisquire, you'll dart in and Pluck Zygarde and any of his Pokeballs from him. Bulbasaur you'll then need to secure Ammorith with String Shot. Empoleon if Ammorith starts to struggle to much for Bulbasaur it'll be your job to restrain him. A Supersonic should help to wear him down. You all know your roles, remember, we're doing this to help him, not hurt him." He'd be lying if he said he wasn't nervous. There were many ways this could go wrong. They had Ammorith out numbered and if they were to judge on current physical condition, they were in a much better position. Ammorith was acting odd though, almost unpredictable and that was dangerous.

TheKnightsFury: It’s treason, then. The day’s victories were all of a sudden short-lived, knowing you would have to turn on a brother to get to the bottom of this rapidly unravelling mystery. Trusting your lead, Lilev fell back ready to provide reinforcement at a moment’s notice. You then relay orders across your party to pin down the troubled Hunter and prize his precious cargo, with restraint of course. Nerves coursed through your body as the plan got underway, Bulbasaur putting her tendrils back to good use, homing in fast on the escapee. It was as though he’d sensed the ambush, attempting to bolt at the last minute but not before the Seed Pokémon’s Vines Whip around his upper body putting a stop to his getaway. Tangled in place he lets out a desperate yell for help, startling the resident bird Pokemon from their treetop roosts as his voice carried across the whole valley. The cry does nothing to shake your team’s resolve, Corvisquire swooping inbound and Plucking the sack free from the fracas. This elicits more desperate struggling from Ammorith, his thrashing and swearing met with a spray of sticky String from the Bulbasaur’s bud, the Shot of adhesive sealing his fate – or so you had hoped.

A stray boulder suddenly comes bowling through the trees at breakneck speed, Smacking into Corvisquire’s underside sending him careening Down into the underbrush! The avian wearily picks himself up with his wings, losing the bag in mid-crash. The thickets in the throw’s direction were rustling wildly, the perpetrator paying no mind to the tangle of roots and vines as it ploughed inbound... It was Armaldo! Whether the traitorous Ammorith had been leading you its way or it had been tailing you this whole time was anyone’s guess, and something you had no time to muse on. Locking in on Ammorith, the ancient Pokemon stampedes through the clearing and Slashes through the Hunter’s ties like spaghetti. Things were turning ugly fast, Empoleon entering the fray with a Supersonic squawk! The frequency scrambles the Armaldo’s brain enough to interrupt its rescue, the Plate Pokemon Cutting Furiously against the humid air, just one of the wayward swipes managing to connect with Bulbasaur for a decent hit. Meanwhile, the sack looked about ready to wriggle off on its own, Ammorith oblivious to the dangers surrounding him as he gave chase.

Lilev would make good on her promise, brandishing a Safari Ball and sending in backup by way of her Cradily. The Barnacle Pokemon was quicker than its appearance let on, tendrils snapping forward and locking into combat with the ancient adversary, Ingraining her roots to anchor her position. The struggle looked evenly matched, until Cradily’s hold started to buckle and roots began to snap, Armaldo determined to plough straight through her if he had to. Lilev had a look of pure grit: “I know this beast almost as well as I do Ammorith, he’s in his prime while Cradily is an old gal. We won’t be able to hold him back for much longer…”

He should have expected it. Just as soon as they'd wrangled Ammorith, Armaldo had sprung onto the scene. Corvisquire was sent plummeting into a bush, dropping the Sticky Web net with Zygarde in it. Armaldo had all but freed Ammorith by the time Empoleon had forced it back with a Supersonic. Lilev had called on her Cradily to assist, the Fossil ingraining itself, but it was struggling to hold back the powerful Armaldo. Xander looked at Empoleon, its eyes were fixed solely on Armaldo.

Empoleon had been waiting for his chance. He hadn't been able to help Corvisquire tangle with Araquanid and he'd been no help capturing Zygarde. Battling Armaldo though, that he could do. He was already Swords Dancing his way towards his opponent, preparing himself for combat. "Open with a Scald Empoleon, then meet its claws with a Steel Wing." With Empoleon holding back Armaldo, they now had to get a hold of Ammorith again, as well as recover Zygarde. Bulbasaur had copped a blow from Armaldo's Fury Cutter, but she was back on deck and ready to try again. Xander noticed her bulb was beginning to flicker, was she close? "Alright Bulbasaur, trying and secure the binds on Ammorith with a Leech Seed, then we'll knock him out with a Sleep Powder." Corvisquire was struggling, the damage to his wings would make it hard for him to fly. Xander raised the Pokemon's Friend Ball and recalled it. He then exchanged it for another Friend Ball on his belt, tossing it in the direction of the bus. "Dreepy, Quick Attack, find and secure Zygarde!" The ghostly dragon dart dashed into the rustling bushes, eager to be of assistance.

King Ghidorah- You were out gunned. Kyurem was handling Salazzle without issue ad you had a feeling the Guardian had barely revealed any of its power yet. After tossing Salazzle a Cheri Berry to relieve her of her paralysis, you grab two more balls from your belt and toss them out to aid the newly evolved lizard. Scizor and Bisharp stand strong, both had already been through quite a bit during the climb, but you'd taken care of them and they were at full strength and ready to fight. Kyurem lets out a low growl, almost like it found it amusing that you'd decided to throw more Pokemon at it. Scizor stands at the ready as Salazzle prepares to douse the Dragon in toxins once more, he'd smash through the rock and clear a path for the poison. Salazzle lets fly with a Toxic deluge, Scizor holds his ground.

A tremendous burst of cold surges from Kyurem. Glaciate. It seemed impossible, but the cavern got even colder as the wave of freezing air washed through, freezing the toxic into icicles which shatter harmlessly against the ground. Scizor and Bisharp are all but frozen in place, barely managing to move, while the Heat Balm seems to have somewhat shielded Salazzle from the chilling effect. Unfortunately, Kyurem has other plans for her. As Salazzle looses another Dazzling Gleam, Kyurem stamps its foot into the ground. Although its hurt by the attack, it fails in comparison to the Power that erupts from the Earth beneath Salazzle. The lizard crashes into the ceiling before plummet back down to the cavern floor where she remains, unconscious.

Salazzle gained 2 levels!

Enraged, Scizor bursts forwards, quickly closing the gap between Kyurem and itself with a Bullet Punch. Even the powerful claws of the Scizor fail to chip the ice from Kyurem's body. Bisharp rushes in as well, blades scraping against each other as he throws Kyurem off with a Metal Sound. The pair of Steel types then combine to smash the Guardian with Iron Heads. Bisharp hits hard, almost Defiantly after the the slowing effect of the Glaciate. Continuing their assault, the pair land two powerful Fighting attacks on the Guardian's wings, the blows cracking through the ice..............

Time for you to taste my true strength

Kyurem booms, the spikes on the tips of its wing shoot out, stretching long tubes down to its tail. Energy floods through the tubes, fuelling Kyurem as its form drastically changes. Its tail now burns bright red, half its body seems to have been fused with something else.

Spoiler: show

Kyurem rises up into the air, gathering energy before letting out a bright flare. The flames was over Scizor and Bisharp, dealing a startling amount of damage, although the momentarily relief from the Bittercold is bitter sweet, if Kyurem didn't put an end to them soon, the cold surely would.

Emp- You gulp down some of the Fresh Water, thankful for the water given the sand that had gathered in and around your mouth. Surgei and Mojumbo share the other, although the Tangrowth claims most of it, since he was the one who'd taken the most damage during the exchange. The rest of your bottle you tip into a small basin for Helioptile, the young solar lizard is thirsty and quickly laps it all up. It is certainly acting more comfortable around you, hopefully that meant it wouldn't react too badly when you went to rub the balm on.

You give it a warning before you go to lather on the special healing item. The balm spreads smoothly across the worn, red ring around the Helioptile's neck. It stings a bit and the lizard extends its frills, spooking you for a moment. It soon relaxes though and drops the frills, allowing you the opportunity to finish applying the balm. The effect of the balm is remarkable. Already the previously painful looking marks had begun to fade, now a pale pink. Helioptile seemed to feel much better as well, its tail swing back and forth through the sand happily. It would likely be strong enough to fend for itself now. As happy as you were to see the little fella back in good health, you really didn't want to let him go. To that end, you question Ty as to whether it would be alright for you to capture the rescued Pokemon.

"Look kid, this is how I see it", Ty responds, "the way the poachers operate, the Pokemon have no choice in whether they're captured or not. From there they're sold off to the highest bidder. You saved Helioptile from that fate, you've given it an opportunity to make a choice. If it wants to go, let it go, if it wants to stay with you, then that's fine as well." So the decision wasn't yours at all, it was Helioptile's. "Whatever it wants to do, work it out quickly, we're already running late now."

TheKnightsFury: It was like you’d sprung a trap, boulders and claws flying every which way the moment you swung into action. The grounded Corvisquire was subbed in for Dreepy – meanwhile Bulbasaur would stick to her guns in wrestling the traitor into submission. Empoleon? It was finally his time to shine. The metallic penguin eyed up the Armaldo which was making quick work of Lilev’s fortification, close to uprooting the Cradily as he steamrolled ahead. It would make a worthy opponent, Empoleon’s flippers glistening like Swords as he entered the Dance. And not a moment too soon, with a mean show of Strength the Plate Pokemon hauled his prehistoric counterpart off the ground, roots and all. The Barnacle Pokemon flinches from having its roots severed, her foe choke slamming her into the underbrush with enough force to send her tendrils limp. Disconcerting as the scene was, it gave Empoleon the perfect opening as he let loose a torrent of Scalding water; the spray hisses as he meets the foe’s carapace, enough to grab his attention despite the lingering confusion as he stampedes inbound in a bezerk rage! Claws readied he looks about to Smash the emperor penguin like a Rock, the latter parrying his swipes with a Steel Wing. A sound like ringing steel cuts through the jungle ambiance, sparks flying as they wrestled for the upper hand.

Bulbasaur was determined to pin down Ammorith in the meanwhile, the huntsman scrambling through the warzone in efforts to stop the wriggling sack in its tracks, paying little mind to his outnumbered Armaldo. He doesn’t get far until a Seed clocks him on the back of the head, all of a sudden unravelling into a tangle of vines which Leech away his escape efforts. “Armaldo, this way! The bag! We need the bag!” Ammorith’s plea cut through Armaldo’s velvet mist, who breaks free from the swordfight taking a nasty clip from the Empoleon’s flipper in the process. Undeterred, he stomps the ground with those colossal footprints you had come accustomed to, sending an Earthquake rippling through the underbrush. It’s enough to almost knock you and Lilev off your feet, Empoleon squawking due to his close proximity – but neither were the intended target. Bulbasaur was about ready to sedate the hysterical Ammaldo with her Sleep Powder but the shockwave knocks her off balance, her chemical concoction missing its mark clean. The slight on his master heightens Armaldo’s blind rage, stampeding inbound with Scissor-like appendages crossing in an X-Motion. The swipe connects with the Seed Pokemon’s bulb, reeling in pain with visible lacerations left behind on its outer layers. On the sidelines, your Dreepy’s first mission was getting underway, making use of his Quickness as he flies toward the runaway sack like a dart meeting a bullseye. The ghostly dragon effortlessly phases through the canvas material and out of view, the bag rustling to indicate a light struggle between the two weaklings, but otherwise now unmoving.

Back on the battlefield Cradily was regaining her composure, giving you a tight perimeter around the beast. He was safely outnumbered, but could you guarantee he was outmatched? Lilev had an err of caution in her voice that suggested the job would be easier said than done: “Ammorith ain’t going nowhere now, and it looks like the young’n has put the breaks on the Zygarde core… Let’s focus on taking down Armaldo.”

The balm had worked like magic, fading into its healed skin as quick as their fleeting relationship. The prospect saddened Emp, but with the elder huntsman’s blessing he’d make a case for the Helioptile to join his ragtag team. It would have to be strong yet brief; time was ticking away as the sun creeped up the sky raising the temperature a notch with each passing minute. Their brief skirmish with the carrion birds had set them behind schedule, Emp had to admit the prospect of work would be slim if they didn’t make it to their destination before midday. With that the party set for departure. The cart rocked as Tangrowth climbed aboard, while Eelektross would hover beside in convoy, soaking up the fresh air and scenery until he needed a cooldown. It was do or die, the traveller scurrying toward the solar lizard with a nervous approach. He rubbed his head awkwardly, wondering how best to tackle the situation without startling the skittish Pokemon again. Even though it was warming up to his presence, there was a chance it was the sort of creature that could never truly be tamed. Still, he’d be kicking himself the rest of the journey if he didn’t give it a go. Lowering to a squat he rummaged his pockets for a Luxury Ball he’d won at Jirachi’s Casino in a bygone era, he’d need some of its luck for the appeal ahead…

“Hey little guy,” sure he had its attention, he gingerly presented the orb so the Helioptile could give it a sniff, “I know you’re back to shape now but I was wondering if you’d be interested in joining us in exploring the cradle. We’re always on the move and have had some incredible adventures. We’d love to have you along if you’re interested.” In the background Mojumbo grumbled in agreement while Eelektross brandished a contorted smile with its leech-like mouth, more like to scare the critter than ease it. Still, Emp reckoned they had put a strong bargain forward.

Armaldo's strength was hard to deny. The clawed fossil uproots Cradily in a display of brute strenght, tossing it into the brush. Empoleon rushed in to meet his foe, blows were exchanged on both sides, neither taking a backward step. Ammorith was scrambling madly towards Zygarde, but Bulbasaur was quick to halt him with a Leech Seed. Dreepy zoomed in to retrieve the bag while Bulbasaur looked to put Ammorith to sleep, taking him out of the equation. Unfortunately, Armaldo came to its trainer's aid, shaking them all with an Earthquake and throwing off the aim of Bulbasaur's Sleep Powder. To make matters worse, Armaldo had launched another attack on Bulbasaur, striking her with an X Scissor that left her visibly wounded. Her bulb was starting to flash every couple of seconds now, it was getting faster.....

Suddenly the Kanto Grass Starter was completely enveloped in a bright light. Her body grew as did her bulb, the leaves developing and unfurling, revealing a bright pink flower bud.

Ivyyyyyyyyyyysaur

"Flash!" Xander shouted out, a massive grin across his face as he looked upon the newly evolved Ivysaur. "Knock it back with Power Whip! Empoleon set up an Aqua Ring, then charge into it with a Waterfall. Keep trying to meet its strikes with your Steel Wings, we'll wear it down!"

With Ivysaur and Empoleon working to keep Armaldo occupied, Xander needed to get possession of Zygarde. "Lilev, watch my back", Xander shouted back to her as he rushed towards the bush. "Dreepy bring the bag to me buddy, Quick before Armaldo Attacks again. Xander looked over at the entangled Ammorith, the insane hunter was still struggling to get free. What could have driven him into this state? This still didn't make any sense.....

Bulbasaur evolved into Ivysaur!

Emp- It was time to depart, there was just one issue to resolve. Dropping to one knee, you retrieve a Luxury Ball you'd procured some time ago. As Ty had suggested, you present Helioptile with a choice. It could leave and live free, or it could join you and adventure through the Cradle and beyond. There is a tense silence, Surgei and Mojumbo watch closely as the young lizard considers its choice.

Heeeeeeeeeeelio

The Electric type smiles as a cheerful growl slips from its lips. It lunges forward, headbutting the Luxury Ball's button, summoning a bright light which draws it inside. The ball shakes but once in your hand before coming to a stop, the resounding click signalling a successful capture!

You caught a lvl 11, Male Helioptile! It knows the Egg Move Camouflage!

"Congratulations kid, seems like your kindness paid off. Now get on the bloody wagon." Ty snapped and you leapt up to sit alongside him. With a whip of the reins he steered Hippowdon around, back in the direction you'd originally been travelling in.

After about an hour, the landscape starts to shift. The ground is hard, large cracks run through it, making for a much bumpier ride. Large petrified tree trunks pepper the landscape, a truly remarkable sight. The land soon begins to slope as you make your way down into the basin. "We've entered the Mausoleum of Giants", Ty explained, "legends say that the Guardians of the Cradle battled demons here, their remains are just one of the things that people are eager to excavate." The towering walls of the basin soon surround you. You notice a number of what you can only assume are old dig sites, although all of the entrances have been sealed off by wooden boards. Eventually you come to a tunnel that hasn't been sealed, boxes of equipment are piled up at the entrance as well. This must be your destination. "This is it", Ty confirmed, "thought the basin would be buzzing though, seems a bit too quiet. It's probably nothing, they're probably just hard at work. Help me unload the supplies then we can head in and see about getting you a job."

TheKnightsFury: The ambush was far from smooth, but you were close to getting a handle on it. The prehistoric foe was surrounded, your allies creating a ringfence closing in from each corner. While Bulbasaur looked the weakest link in the chain, her timely blossoming into an Ivysaur helps to even the odds some. Not enough to subdue the Armaldo who fancies his chances, rushing her with a Struggle Bug. The battering sends her skidding back a few inches, her flower flickering a blinding white in retaliation; the close distance Flash floods his retina, impairing his vision as much as his cognition. The distraction gives ample room for the other combatants to patch up their injuries, Empoleon setting up an Aqua Ring and Cradily Photosynthesising. Albeit blinded, Armaldo thinks quick on his feet stomping up another off the Richter Earthquake – trees shaken by the first shockwave begin to creak and topple, the metal penguin reeling in pain as their healing efforts were disrupted. The whole stretch of forest would be levelled if you didn’t act fast, it was time to snuff out the beast - Ivysaur and Cradily Whipped forth their vines in perfect synchronicity, the Power of the combo creating cracks in Armaldo’s armour and sweeping him clean off his feet. Before he can regain composure Empoleon charges in to deliver the finisher, body enveloping like a Waterfall! You wipe away the splashback to see that the tough enemy is down for the count. Empoleon and Ivysaur gained two levels!

“Good job lad. You have the makings of a fine hunter,” Lilev smacks you on the back with enough force to nearly knock you off your feet, then making for Ammorith and hoisting him to his feet by the leech seed tangle, “I’m sorry we have to do this son, but there’s something not right with you. You’ll thank me when you’re back to your senses.” Ammorith only had eyes for the sack, which was now floating to your fix courtesy of your trusty Dreepy, his first mission a resounding success. Dreepy gained one level!

“It’ll be nightfall soon and that hiccup set us behind schedule. I don’t like the prospect of trekking these jungles at night but we may have no choi- Is something up, kid?” It was a strange sensation, like seeing the world for the first time with the eyes of a newborn child; the vegetation was weeping a kaleidoscope of colours, still dapples of sunlight coming alive in a wild dance of pastel pinks and blues. Had you unknowingly ingested some exotic jungle neurotoxin? Head spinning you struggle to keep balance, the sensation seemingly spreading through your entire company like a contagion. Then came a whiney from the far reaches of the horizon, the equine cry cutting through the humid air and rattling through the deepest corners of your psyche…

“They’re over here!” a voice cries, and soon enough they were all on your fix. It was a faction of missing Hunters that looked as unkempt as Ammorith – and one other. The thundering hooves split the silence as a single white mare breaks open the crowd, a penetrating coolness trickling over the colourful landscape. The warm wind wisped its knotted, rainbow mane into the air like flames, although it was not a typical Rapidash that stood before you. Unusual for even its variant, the tall, elderly Galarian breed looked about one of the scariest things you’d ever seen, its mane patchy and fleabitten and a broken stump where its horn would be. It looked blind by its milky-white eyes, yet meeting its stare seemed to allow passage into your very soul. The horseback warrior was just as imposing, taller than Lilev, more muscular and battle worn. His facial features were scarred and cavemanlike, his piercing violet eyes a contrast against his olive skin. His hair was matted in dreadlocks dyed the same pastel colours as his Rapidash, coming over his shoulder in a ponytail which draped as far down as his waist.

“You found the core, it seems,” his deep voice was flavoured with an accent from a faraway land, hand reaching down from his mount as you impulsively hand over the sack, Dreepy and all. The baby dragon, like you and the rest of your allies, was locked in a strange state of suspended animation, no doubt orchestrated by the Rapidash.

“It was I who brought them here master, brought them to you.” Ammorith snaps, still struggling against his bind.

“Very good my brother. You’ll eat well tonight,” He signals the underlings to set Ammorith free once again, “Are there others?”

“The Hunter’s Guild are set to rendezvous with them at a Healer’s Guild outpost not far from here.”

The warrior tutted: “That will not do. Let’s undo that mistake.”

The warrior and his mare turn on you in tandem, the psychedelic sensation intensifying as you involuntarily tap your commslink. It was a strange out-of-body sensation, hearing someone else’s words escape your lips: “Orma do you copy? It was a false alarm – call off the distress call.”

“What?! A false alarm? I-” You were desperate to respond, desperate to resist. But instead you yank the gadget from your ear and crush it beneath your boot. While your tongues were tied you could see a mangle of intense struggle and hopelessness within Lilev’s eyes, your hopes of rescue shattered to pieces.

“Gather up your Pokemon my new brother and sister,” the mysterious man continues, “With less minds on the field I’ll be able to put you fully under – if you’re anything as righteous as your friend, you’ll thank me for this mercy. The Guild will be suspicious, we must hurry and leave this place...” Without question you all oblige, your Pokemon desperate to help yet spellbound into submission: Empoleon, Ivysaur, Dreepy, Cradily and Armaldo are all withdrawn. No longer having to wrestle with the will of half a dozen Pokemon, the Rapidash makes good on its master’s promise, Hypnotising you into complete sedation. The rainbow kaleidoscope intensifies until you’re numb to the world, consciousness ebbing away…

The next time you come to your head is pounding. It was nightfall, nothing but the light of the full moon filtering soft through the barred windows. Your eyes felt adjusted to the darkness though, allowing you to paint a clear enough picture of your confine; you were bundled in what appeared to be the back of an old wagon. There were a few barrels stacked in a corner trickling brown drinking water underfoot and what appeared to be carcasses of Rattata, their bones strewn throughout the prison picked of every morsel of flesh. Your belly was empty and muscles aching, wrists raw against a set of chains which restricted your movement. The wagon was moving at a glacial pace, wobbling as it rolled over potholes in the road - one sudden jerk is enough to rouse the other captives.

“Lilev?! Xander?! You’re not telling me he got you too?!” something about him seemed different now, familiar even. It was as though the old Ammorith was back again, although the same couldn’t be said for his physical appearance. His health had deteriorated even further, a face paler than a ghost. Lilev looks as weary as you as she attempts to collect herself.

“Who?” she starts, a weakness in her voice you hadn’t heard before, “That warrior type who found us in the Glades earlier?”

“The Glades? I don’t remember being in the Glades.” Ammorith looked genuinely nonplussed, eliciting a weary frustration from his mentor as the memories of the day came back all at once.

“What’re you talking about, kid – you don’t remember roping us into capturing that Zygarde core then double crossing us?!” Her voice was full of fury now, valid if not a bit misdirected.

“Wait – he has a core?!” Ammorith interrupts, a grave look etched across his face, “The memories come to me like flashes, we’ve been tracking and hunting cells throughout the cradle for weeks – but never a core. This is bad – this is real bad.”

Lilev scans the surroundings looking for even the smallest hope of escape, when she gets a look through the window her face contorts with confusion: “The moon was in its third quarter before we left the Guild… That right there is a full moon… How long have we been under for?”

Empoleon reached lvl 41! Ivysaur reached lvl 28! Dreepy reached lvl 2!

Spoiler: show

As Xander regained consciousness, he was flooded with memories, or were they hallucinations? No, they were memories. That man, the warrior riding that ragged old Rapidash. What had happened to that poor Pokemon? It certainly had incredible power, managing to incapacitate all of them. The memories were foggy at best, he remembered calling off the reinforcements and recalling his Pokemon.... His Pokemon?! Xander tossed and turned, the shackles cutting deeper as he tried to spot his Pokemon or at least their Pokeballs, but there was no sign of them. Panic was starting to consume him.

A bump awoke Ammorith and Lilev. To Xander's surprise, Ammorith seemed much more himself now, had he been under the Rapidash's control the entire time? Xander sat back and let Lilev and Ammorith talk, trying his best to put all of the puzzle pieces together. Ammorith had no memory of what had occurred in the Glades, it seems he was indeed brain washed. The Hunter was shocked upon hearing about the captured Zygarde Core, revealing that the 'they' had been hunting down Zygarde Cells for weeks. Cells and Cores? What was the mysterious man trying to accomplish? Lilev looked around for a way to escape, noticing the moons position in the process. The moon had been in its Third Quarter the night he'd stayed at the Hunters Guild, towards the end of the Lunar cycle. It was now Full, meaning the moon had done the majority of a cycle since they'd been knocked out. Had it really been weeks?! So much could have happened during that time, had Xander been controlled against his will like Ammorith had? Could he have done things, terrible things, that he didn't even remember?!

"We're locked up tight", Xander coughed, "I have a feeling we'll only get out of here when he wants us out of here. If he has a Core and as many Cells as you say Ammorith, surely he is close to pulling off whatever his plan is?" Xander couldn't think of a way out of this, they had almost nothing at their disposal. No Pokemon and no tools, the shackles would make it hard to do anything. Xander's eyes kept floating back to the Rattata bones. Which one of them had ate a god damn Rattata?! "Wait a second...." Xander's brain lit up, it was a long shot, but maybe Lilev or Ammorith had the skills to pull it off. "Can any of us reach those bones? More importantly, have either of you ever picked a lock?" It was the longest of long shots, but if they could at least remove the shackles, they might just stand a chance.....

Emp was squat in bated breath as the ball shook in his grasp, before long ticking over to indicate a successful capture. The traveler clasped his prize into a fist and pumped it into the air, allowing his legs to give way as he rolled onto his back in a sort of celebratory laughter, their hard work starting to pay off. Ty was quick to snap him out of his fun and back to the day ahead – the camp already slipping behind schedule. Mojumbo smacked a spot on the bench he had saved for his amigo, the wheels rocking into motion the second he was seated. Eelektross would glide in tow with ease, soaking up the hidden beauties of the arid landscape albeit more suited to submarine environs.

They were off once more, with nothing to do but while away the morning the traveller would show his new catch off to his companions, Helioptile returning to the scene with a shimmer of light. Emp decided the skittish Pokemon had a good chemistry with Mojumbo, the placid lump of vines welcoming him to scuttle up and down his vines with curiosity, the cart shaking whenever the lizard reached one of the tangled hulk’s tickle spots. Surgei craned his neck into the wagon thereafter, wanting to greet the fellow electric-type on less chaotic terms. Helioptile was quick to flash his frills in response, darting between his trainer’s legs and flicking on his Camouflage. Feeling the creature cower between his ankles Emp wondered if the hatchling had remembered things differently; Eelektross was cursed with a face that would strike fear into most small critters, that much was true.
The minutes soon ticked into hours as the scene shifted before their eyes. The rolling sand dunes were replaced with desert flats, the baking sun propagating the clay earth with mudcracks, adding turbulence to the ride. Scattered across the landscape were the ghostly remains of decayed trees, inspiring awe and unease in equal measure - and soon enough they were on a downward slope. Ty explained they were entering the Mausoleum of Giants, legend to have harboured great wars before man reached the cradle, the stories of which were only etched in its fossilised remains. Emp was rapt, perhaps there was more to this wasteland than toil and labour. Passing by countless boarded excavations shafts they eventually came to a stop at one of the few open tunnels, although its workers were nowhere to be seen. Perhaps they had gone for an early lunch break? Emp pushed free of the wagon, giving his body a good stretch before making for the supplies.

“Surgei, Mojumbo: give us a hand will you,” the seasoned pair were quick to oblige, lifting twice the amount Emp could with no sweat, “Nikola, you come up on my shoulder.” It was a name that had come about amid the wagon journey, the electric-type occasionally soaking up the sun’s rays with his frill like a solar battery; he’d have a nice sunbathing spot up on top of Emp while the rest of their troop shouldered the heavy lifting.

TheKnightsFury: The saviours were now lost souls, your prison a mangle of every horror movie you'd ever seen. Waking up from a coma your pounding head was whirring with questions but drawing a blank at every turn. The memories of the weeks gone by were lost or never recorded in the first place, a blessing or a curse depending on how you looked at it. Your imagination did its best to piece the weeks together, the scenarios conjured up enough to break your mind if left to fester. Instead you focus on the here and now, poring over the bleak carriage for any apparatus to aide an escape, drawing nothing but the flesh-picked skeletons of unfortunate rodent Pokemon.

“I imagine whatever he’s planning, he’s close to achieving it.” Ammorith continued, “I don’t know much about his power but from what I have gathered there are varied levels of control: for the most part he wants to keep us fully under, which is why we go weeks at a time without remembering a thing. But sometimes, when his power is spread too thin or is needed elsewhere, I’ve been conscious of my actions… The terrible things I’ve seen and done, I - I…” Fresh tears were streaming down his face, he had to pause for a moment to regain his composure.

“Then there are time’s like right now, where I don’t feel his pull at all. The last time this happened I had hoped to death we had been freed, but no – he was conserving his magic stores for a dark ritual of sorts. Tonight, with the full moon – he’ll be planning the same or worse, I bet.” Talk of the supernatural seemed to repel Lilev, who went back to the escape ahead.

“Kick some of those bones my way kid, I’ll see what I can do,” It was an impossible task with your arms tied behind your back. You didn’t remember your leg muscles being so weak and shaky; every time you managed to get a small bone between your boots it would either slip out or splinter. There was just one left in reach, a femur which looked primed for picking. Some struggle ensues and you manage to balance it on the tip of your foot and in throwing caution to the wind, volley it Lilev’s direction. Catching it in her teeth, she gets to work on cracking the shackles. It would be a while before her lockpicking efforts paid off if at all, so now would be a good time to pick Ammorith’s scattered brain for more clues about the dangers ahead.

The mysterious warrior was obviously close to fulfilling his plan. "Wait, Ammorith is it the man who controls us, or his tormented Rapidash?" Xander wasn't exactly sure, perhaps it was a combined effort? Ammorith had proposed that they were lucid now because the warrior was saving his strength for some dark ritual, which would make sense considering the full moon. Tonight could be the night that the warrior finally sees his plan through, the ritual could be the final play. If that was the case, they needed to get out of here and try to put a stop to it. But even if they could get the shackles off, what could they hope to achieve? They were worn and weary. They possessed neither weapons nor their Pokemon. They were likely to be vastly outnumbered. How could they even put a dent in the man's plan?

Xander struggled to retrieve the Rattata bones, but if they were going to have any chance of survival, they needed the bones. Finally Xander saw successful, pinning a bone between his feet and tossing it over to Lilev. The hunter got to work, whether she'd be successful with the quality of her tool was questionable....

While she worked, Xander set to task as well. He needed every bit of information that Ammorith could provide. "Ammorith, you need to focus and remember everything you can. "How many followers does he have? Has he got a base of operations? Where does he keep our Pokemon? Does he have any other weaknesses that you've noticed? Anything man, anything you can think of. I have a feeling it isn't just our lives on the line here!"
