Yep, that's a very big Doublade, alright...

The appearance of the sword pokemon as well as its eagerness for a fight made certain to Alex three things. One, this thankfully was in no way related to Menefer, and thus probably just a wild pokemon. Two, its swinging of its blades and readiness for combat meant it was certain to be a wild pokemon taken by the Dynamax phenomenom, amplifying its desire to destroy and damage anything that did and didn't move. And third, it was really freaking big.

Paine stepped forth, staring the steel type in its eyes with unreadable expression, while Alex took a brief moment, the calm before the storm as the Doublade oddly waited impatiently for the motley crew to make their moves. There was a young man wearing glasses, with a necklace holding a tooth of sorts, which evidently belonged to the Gible, a pokemon Alex was familiar with. He could have brought his own evolved dragon, but Cal wasn't on him at the time. Another trainer was a younger girl with her Vulpix, a wise choice given the incendiary propensity, while their other ally in this fight was...

...peculiar, to say the least. The girl didn't bother with anything like footwear, and seemed to be staring down the Doublade with the sort of look that was evident of someone with half of Moomoo Farm's residents' worth of beef. Beside her stood a species that once again had Alex questioning himself a little, the Malamar interesting and known for their unrivalled hypnotic powers. Paine's chime knocked him free of his thoughts however, as he felt some sort of unusual energy glimmer from that band he got in the Twisted Roots gym.

He had seen what this could do, and what it was. A Dynamax Band, containing a shard of what some people rumoured to be an extraterrestrial meteorite imbued with untapped, near limitless energy. An energy that yearned to be unleashed this very instant. He shook his head though, the Gothitelle staring back at him with only the slightest air of quizzicalism.

"If what I hear is right, Dynamax can be more of a hindrance as much as it is a blessing. You'll be better off as you are," he bluntly stated, the Gothitelle giving a slight nod before turning back to her powered up opponent. "That Doublade is going to be a pretty physical opponent, but we're best suited to more of a support role in this fight, so start us off by charming the scabbards off of it." The logic was sound: while the move lacked any offensive power, it would help to ensure that the Doublade's main damage source was hindered somewhat, allowing for enhanced longevity while the other three could happily unload on it with their own moves. Additionally, it meant that someone more suited to Dynamaxing could get in on the action and capitalise on their offensive movepools. Of course, Paine wasn't completely without offensive power, and if needs came to she could get on the assault as well. Right now though, support was a good plan of action.

Terri was not the only one showing up to fight this Doublade- three other Trainers were present. None of whom Terri had ever met before, but this wasn't exactly the time for introductions. Especially not considering the nature of their opponent; as Terri had feared, this was that Doublade. As terrible as the memories of their previous encounter were, Terri did not allow herself to betray her fear. Besides, she was liking her chances- this time, she was prepared for this opponent. Even if her brand new Dynamax Band wasn't the one gathering Dynamax Energy at the moment, Terri had brought a most suitable Pokémon to fight this menace this time.

George glared up at the Doublade. He hadn't met the pair of swords before, but knew all about its previous encounter with Terri, and its attempt on her life, and that, the Malamar firmly believed, was unforgivable. The fury Terri was showing at the sight of it, he didn't doubt for a second that it was totally justified. The Dark/Psychic-type stood defiantly between Terri and Doublade, ready for action at a moment's notice, ready to get this party started.

Terri did not take her wary eyes off of Doublade as she spoke up to her allies. "Don't let your guard down!" she exclaimed. "I've seen this Doublade before, and it's as crafty as it is deadly!" And following this warning, she was quick to give a command to get things started. "OK, George, give it an Overheat!" she commanded.

"Malamaaaaar!" George responded, preparing to unleash the intensely hot flames from his beak. To most, this move would be more of a last resort, due to the natural Special Attack drop incurred by the extreme exertion of power, but George wasn't most, experiencing effects from the move quite Contrary to that which most would be subjected to. In short, it was gonna make him even stronger.

OOC: George used Overheat. (130 BP; will provide +2 to Sp. Atk due to Contrary)

Well... That was a Doublade, alright. Liawe had never seen one in person, and yet there was little mistaking it. Two swords in crossed scabbards with eyes on the hilt. Apparently the guide had neglected to mention they were glowing red and also larger than your average house. Or maybe that was this "dynamax" shenanigans she'd been hearing about? Either way, Summer was looking a bit nervous, and rightfully so. This was her first real fight, and she was going up against something ten times her size and was pretty clearly designed to mince anything in melee. Liawe was nervous too: the last time she met any kind of supersized Pokemon, it had wiped her team and almost killed her. Pushing the unpleasant memories away, she forced herself to return to the task at hand, as Summer lined up with the other three Pokemon she'd be assisting in this raid. A Gothitelle, a Malamar and a Gible. Not a lot that looked like it could go a few rounds with a physical powerhouse like a Doublade, so she hoped they had the oomph behind them to blast through it before it did the same to them. Returning her focus to the massive unsheathed blades before her, Liawe tried to hide her sheer terror at the sight of the creature as she issued orders to Summer, hoping the little fox wasn't as scared as she was. "Right so, let's get going, shall we? A Fire Blast should be enough to scorch his porch. Try to keep away from it too, that thing looks a bit more than you can handle in close quarters..."

(Using Fire Blast, 110 BP.)

Dynamax Boss Doublade
★★★
Health Gauge: 78%
Shields Up: NA
Status: -2 Attack

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Max Phantasm (120 BP)
Missingno.Master, Malamar: 156 HP
Attack 2: Flash Cannon (80 BP)
Sixdragons, Gible: 180 HP

Raid Challengers:
  • Missingno.Master (Malamar): 156 HP (+2 Special Attack, +1 Defence)
  • Sixdragons (Gible): 180 HP (- 1 Defence)
  • Raves (Gothitelle): 300 HP (- 1 Defence)
  • Ironthunder (Vulpix): 300 HP (- 1 Defence)

Blasts of fire and earth pale in comparison to the charming approach of the Gothitelle. While the rouse manages to distract the Doublade for a moment and reduce its offensive presence slightly, it isn't long before the possessed blades go on the assault. Spectral objects appear out of nowhere, catching Malamar unaware and lowering the defence of the raiders. A Flash Cannon is driven into Gible, although the little dragon stands strong, gritting his teeth as he endures the attack.

Dynamax Initiative: Ironthunder, Vulpix
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.

  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.

The first round of attacks went fairly smoothly. Terri wasn't the least bit surprised that George was targeted first- no doubt Doublade recognized Terri, remembered her, was probably raring for some payback. But George took the attack well- not only that, but Contrary to what one might expect after taking the Ghost-type Max Move, George's Defense only grew stronger.

"Maaal. Malamar!" George exclaimed defiantly as he withstood the Max Phantasm, looking stronger and more durable than he did before taking the attack.

"Good, George!" Terri grinned. She glared up at the Doublade, who had just launched a Flash Cannon at a Gible one of the other Trainers was using. I'm not scared of you, Terri thought. Not anymore.

The Vulpix was going for a Confuse Ray- an idea Terri approved of, for the last thing they needed was this Doublade being in the right state of mind to concoct cunning, crafty plans. Between its wits and its blades, it was truly a deadly adversary, and anything that could hinder its thought process, Terri for one welcomed it. Another of their allies had done likewise, managing to lower Doublade's Attack power with Charm. Fascinated by this Pokémon, Terri consulted her Pokédex.

"Gothitelle, the Astral Body Pokémon. A Psychic-type, and the evolved form of Gothorita," droned the device. "Gothitelle can predict the future from observing the placement and movement of the stars, and are able to see Trainers' life spans. It possesses tremendous psychic power."

Terri found Gothitelle fascinating, but knew this was hardly the time or place to dwell on that Keeping her attention on Doublade, Terri intended to keep up the offensive onslaught, continual attacks with gradually rising power the likes of which few other than the Malamar species could claim to be able to do. "Now, George, use Overheat once more!" Terri declared.

OOC: George used Overheat (130 BP; will provide +2 to Sp. Atk due to Contrary)

The raiders had hit the ground running, firing off super effective attacks and lowering the Doublade's Attack. Doublade had responded in kind, but Gible was tough as nails and stood his ground, even as a blast of energy from Max Phantasm crippled his defences.
"Ha! You can't take us down like that! Gible, let's show this thing what we're really made of!" Dracen called. Gible gnashed his teeth and took off running, joining the other raiders in a new wave of attacks.
"How about we give it a taste of its own medicine? Shadow Claw, now!"
Sickly purple energy swathed Gible's stubby hand, forming a trio of wicked claws. He leaped forward and swiped, meeting one of the massive blades head-on.
"Yeah! That should do some damage alright," Dracen cheered. "We'll have it down in no time!"
TL;DR: Gible used Shadow Claw(70BP).

Dynamax Boss Doublade
★★★
Health Gauge: 70%
Shields Up: 2
Status: +1 Defense

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Stat Clearing Shockwave (All stat changes and statuses cleared!)

Attack 2: Max Steelspike (130 BP)
Raves, Gothitelle (Substitute destroyed): 225 HP

Raid Challengers:
  • Missingno.Master (Malamar): 156 HP
  • Sixdragons (Gible): 180 HP
  • Raves (Gothitelle): 225 HP
  • Ironthunder (Vulpix): 300 HP

After getting off to a cracking start, the raiders take a mixed approach as they continue to hammer the Doublade. Vulpix afflicts it with confusion while Gothitelle sets up a sub, preparing for the inevitable attack. Malamar continues to abuse its ability, forcing the Doublade to bring up shields with a powerful Overheat. Gible rakes through one with a Shadow Claw but then the Doublade goes on the offensive. Working through the confusion, the Doublade releases a powerful wave of energy that clears everyone's buffs and debuffs, while also clearing its own confusion. It then sends a mass of steel spikes erupting from the ground, but thankfully it only destroys Gothitelle's substitute.....

"Yes!" Dracen shouted. Gible's Shadow Claw had done its work, and with the rest of the raiders, they'd really made it hurt.
"Let's break those shields, Gible!" Dracen called as Gible ran back to him. "Let's hit it with a Flamethrow-"
Suddenly, a glow at his wrist caught his attention. His Dynamax Band, which had been inert since he had been gifted it, had gathered energy and was bright red! Dracen grinned. "Alright, new plan!" he grabbed Gible's Pokeball and recalled the land shark, and Dynamax Energy began to flow into the Pokeball. It shone red and grew to the size of a beach ball, surprisingly light in his hands. He tossed it behind the other raiders and watched as Gible popped back out, now eye level with the malicious Doublade. Gible studied his new size for a moment, then got ready to attack. Dracen took a deep breath and called to his Dynamaxed Pokémon,
"Gible, full force... Unleash MAX FLARE!(from Flamethrower, 90BP) "

With battle underway, Alex was very quick to notice the force of that Doublade's opening move on the Malamar, even after an offensive drop, and it was prudent of Paine to defend herself, as he called for the psychic pokemon to erect a substitute, figuring after the Cacturne battle not too long before that the steel type was likely to energise some shields over itself. This hunch proved right, as just before the Malamar launched his second Overheat the Vulpix rendered it confused, and up came three layers of dynamax barriers. The Gible ripped through one of these barriers, before the Doublade moved in an unnerving manner.

Without warning, it unleashed a shockwave throughout the battlefield, the energy sapping all changes, be they buff or debuff, from all pokemon, before driving both blades into the rock below it. A surge of metallic spikes screamed forth, right for Paine, ripping into the form before it and shredding it apart...only for the Gothitelle to peer out from behind a cascade of dissipating fluff, the substitute having saved her from taking a devastating strike.

"We're good..." Alex called out to his allies in relief, as he watched the Gible's trainer recall the dragon pokemon, before the orb inflated. it appeared as if it was now that trainer's turn to Dynamax, and very quickly the Gible was readying a devastating Max Flare, a technique that would certainly burn through the last two shields of the Doublade, and with the sun up it would provide the psychic squid and fox a boost in strength.

"One sec, ladies," he barked to the trainers of the other two pokemon before they could move. "lemme just soften him up for you a bit. Paine, that Doublade ruined your fluffy doll, so give 'em some fake tears so he knows how much he upset you." While it was true that the move lacked any damage potential, it would impede on the steel type's special resistance, even if it left Paine open to retaliation. Support was the aim of the game here, and if that support meant letting the incoming firepower get a much needed boost, then so be it.

Terri gritted her teeth as Doublade generated a powerful shockwave. Everyone present could feel it, but the Pokémon going up against this bladed menace felt it most of all. It cleared out all status conditions from all the battling Pokémon, as well as changes to stats- which included all the Special Attack increases George had acquired from using Overheat! Moreover, Doublade set up a powerful shield to greatly lessen the damage it'd take from attacks, and attempted to rip the Gothitelle apart with Max Steelspike. Terri stifled a gasp as the Substitute was torn apart, momentarily forgetting that it had been just that- a Substitute. Once this sank in, she allowed herself a small sigh of relief.

Terri kept paying attention to her Dynamax Band, but alas, hers was not the one to swirl with energy, and this time, the one who had it went for it; Dracen Dynamaxed his Gible, and called for a Max Flare. This, Terri felt certain, would break through the remainder of the Doublade's shield, leaving it open to their attacks. And before anyone else could issue a command, Alex headed them off, commanding his Gothitelle to use Fake Tears and soften up the Doublade's Special Defense. Terri nodded- this was a smart idea, she knew, and it was an advantage she wasn't going to hesitate to press.

"Maaala?" George murmured, the Malamar keeping a wary, cautious eye on the Doublade.

Terri nodded once more, knowing now was the time to act. "OK, George, let's do this again- give it another Overheat!" she commanded.

OOC: George used Overheat (130 BP; will provide +2 to Sp. Atk due to Contrary)

Dynamax Boss Doublade
★★★
Health Gauge: 46%
Shields Up: 3
Status: +1 Defense, -2 Special Defense

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Rock Slide (75 BP)
Missingno.Master, Malamar: 81 HP
Sixdragons, Gible: 323 HP
Raves, Gothitelle: 150 HP
Ironthunder, Vulpix: 187 HP
Attack 2: Max Phantasm (130 BP)
Missingno.Master, Malamar: 0 HP

  • Raves (Gothitelle): 150 HP (-1 Defense)
  • Ironthunder (Vulpix): 187 HP (-1 Defense)

Gible goes big, Dynamaxing to match the size of the Raid Boss. He wastes no time putting his new strength to good use, smashing the remaining two shields with an blistering inferno. The fire summons sunlight, which is quickly abused by the other raiders. The Doublade is quickly overwhelmed and forced to throw up its second batch of shields! Despite a temporary defensive measure, the Doublade doesn't lay off the attack. It sends rocks sliding over the raiders, dealing spread damage before knocking Malamar out with another Max Phantasm!

Dynamax Initiative: Sixdragons, Gible

The offensive strategy paid off in spades: As soon as the Gible's Max Flare landed, it shredded through the Dynamaxed Doublade's shields like paper, and with her feint the sword pokemon's guard was lowered, which led to a two pronged offensive assault from the Malamar and Vulpix in the sun which shone fiercely overhead. However, the steel type did not take kindly to this, and just as quickly erected another set of shields, the last set it had.

What Alex didn't see coming was the furious pokemon immediately rushing behind a sizable pillar of stone, digging both blades into the base of it and ripping it straight out of the ground before chucking the crumbling formation at the group. All four of the pokemon battling were left reeling, and before anyone could react a phantasmal assault caught the weakened Malamar - almost as if the pokemon had singled out that specific girl's pokemon - and knocked the squid clean out.

"Oh that's not good," he growled, and no surprise why: the Malamar's utility of Overheat and Contrary meant it was capable of delivering heavy damage to the steel type, and now the group had their defences hindered. They had to get those shields down and buy the girl time to get the dark type up and running again. The Gible could certainly take another hit, though the Vulpix was pretty weary and a move like that Max Phantasm would spell the end for them too. Paine meanwhile looked rather beat up as she dusted off the rubble around her, and stared a cold, calculating glare at the enraged Doublade. The Vulpix could at least get a Hail Mew attack off in a sun boosted Fire Blast, but those shields still stood, and Alex recognised this.

"Hold on, let us take head and knock one of those down. Paine, hit it with a Shadow Ball, and make it snappy! Aim for the pommel eye!" While the technique, with its league listed offensive rating of 80 base power, would not do any direct damage, it would certainly get another impact in there, and as he motioned to the Gible's trainer to nuke it again for the other two shields, he realised that as dramatic as the assault was, it was evidence that the Doublade was faring as poorly as the group was right now. All they had to do was endure the next round, and wait.

Dracen was shell-shocked. They had launched a huge assault and seriously injured their foe, but it had cost them their strongest member. With the Malamar down, their offensive capabilities were crippled. The Doublade glared down at them triumphantly from behind its shields. Dracen growled back up at it, mirrored by a thunderous snarl from Gible. "Let's crack that shell of his. Gible, show him your Ground-Type power! MAX QUAKE(from Earth Power, 90BP)!" Gible stamped a massive foot, shaking the ground around the raiders, before burrowing under the cavern floor. He burst from the earth under the Doublade along with a column of sand and stone, which obliterated the remaining shields. The Doublade flinched back, injured and more dangerous than ever. Dracen called to the others as Gible landed with a crash behind them. "Now, everyone! Attack! Let's finish this!"

Dynamax Boss Doublade
★★★
Health Gauge: 32%
Shields Up: NA
Status: +2 Defense, -2 Special Defense, Sunny Day (3 turns remaining)

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Max Steelspike (130 BP)
Sixdragons, Gible: 108 HP
Attack 2: Max Phantasm (130 BP)
Raves, Gothitelle: 0 HP

Raid Challengers:
  • Missingno.Master (Malamar): 300 HP [Fully Recovered]
  • Sixdragons (Gible): 108 HP (Dynamaxed, 1 turns remaining) (-2 Defense)
  • Raves (Gothitelle): 0 HP [must sit out one round before recovering.]
  • Ironthunder (Vulpix): 187 HP (-2 Defense)

Things are looking good for the raiders. Despite one of their ranks being currently out of action. The remaining three Pokemon manage to break through the remaining shields and deal another powerful blow to the Doublade. The animated swords must be aware that they are on the edge of defeat as they begin to gather every ounce of their remaining power. The swords attack in unison, one summoning steel spikes while the other launches a phantasm, bombarding the confident raiders. Another raider falls as Gothitelle is overwhelmed by the Phantasm, but thankfully Malamar begins to move once more, he has recovered!

Dynamax Initiative: Sixdragons, Gible
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Wednesday, February 19th to place your order.

Dracen's confidence had been bolstered by their attack and the revived Malamar. Gible hopped from foot to foot in excitement, causing tremors as he did. The Doublade had been firing attack after attack at the dragon, with little effect. Even with his Defense almost gone, Gible still had energy to spare. Dracen stared down Doublade, who seemed to know its time was up.
"Let's end this. Melt these swords, Gible! MAX FLARE!(From Flamethrower, 90BP)"

Terri's heart sank as the Max Phantasm struck George, and as the dust settled, the Malamar lay on the ground, totally knocked out. Taking a deep breath to steel herself, Terri held out the Lure Ball and withdrew George, not taking her eyes off the Doublade. Of course Doublade targeted George like crazy- that was the one thing stopping it from outright killing her instead. And no doubt that was something the Doublade was about to attempt... But the other Trainers present weren't about to let that happen! Terri's expression gained more and more confidence as the others continued to fight. Even the Gothitelle, who up until now had been playing a largely defensive role, went on the offensive with Shadow Ball. The Max Quake from Gible, the Fire Blast from Vulpix, they all helped keep Doublade at bay, helped to further weaken the dangerous sentient weaponry, until Terri felt a pulse of energy in the Lure Ball she held- the Power Spot's unique properties had helped to heal up George's injuries and totally restore his strength.

If only father could see this, Terri thought to herself as she cast a quick, grateful look to her allies, before throwing the Lure Ball. "One more time! George, engage!" she exclaimed.

And George reappeared, looking good as new! Not a scratch on him as he landed on the ground. "Maaaalamaaaaar!" he exclaimed, glaring up at the Doublade.

By this point, the others had already given their orders, and it almost certainly fell to Terri to finish the job. And she was just fine with that. She too glared up at Doublade, making damn sure to establish eye contact as she gave the command. "George, finish it off! Use Overheat!"

OOC: George used Overheat (130 BP; will provide +2 to Sp. Atk due to Contrary).

Looking to finish things with fiery fury, the remaining raiders engulf the Doublade in a shroud of flames. The intensity of the blaze is almost enough to singe the eyebrows of the raiders, surely it was enough to defeat the Doublade? A powerful wave of energy pulses through the flames. The Dynamax energy empowering the Doublade was being released. As the flames subside, the Doublade is nowhere to be seen. It had fled upon defeat, but there is no doubting this was the last time the villainous Pokemon would show itself.

Gym Leader Jared leads the cries of congratulations as the raiders emerge from the den. A sea of clapping onlookers fills the courtyard with a cacophony. The professor pushes his way through the crowd, presenting all of the raiders with their rewards, always grateful for their assistance.

For all of their hard work in defeating the Raid Boss Doublade, the participating trainers are awarded the following items:
50 Watts
1 TR Gyro Ball
1 TR Shadow Ball
3 Babiri Berries
2 Kasib Berries

Don't mind me, just stealing these rewards.
